it was just a question of how

Insomnia strategy

I don’t remember if I’ve posted this here before or not, so I’m gonna post it again on the off chance someone finds it helpful.

A few years ago I was sitting in a coffee shop with two of my aunts and one was talking about her daughter, my cousin, who was traveling around Europe (that aunt has money) and anyway, the cousin in question was having a lot of difficulty sleeping in the various hotels and youth hostels she was staying in.

My aunt said, “She just hasn’t learned to cope with insomnia yet.”

“The worst thing you can do about insomnia is stress about insomnia,” she said, “If you’re lying in bed thinking about how tired you’re going to be tomorrow, and thinking about how badly you need to get to sleep, and how few hours you have left to sleep, all you’re doing is making the insomnia worse.”

And I’m thinking, “Well, sure, that’s a given, but all those things are still *true*, so how the heck do you NOT think them?”

Then she said the magic words:

“Some nights, you just have to say to yourself, ‘Okay, it looks like I will not be sleeping tonight. That’s okay. I will sleep another night. Tonight, I’m not going to worry about sleeping. Tonight, I am going to lie down in a comfortable bed and rest my body and my eyes. I won’t sleep, but that’s okay. I’ll still rest tonight, and I’ll sleep another night.’”

I don’t know why that shook me so much, but somehow, ever since then, if I’m having a night where I just cannot drift off? I will give myself permission not to. I will stay in bed, turn on some music sometimes, leave my electronics off, close my eyes, and just rest my body. I will give myself explicit permission to not sleep that night.

And half the time? Doing that calms me down so freaking much that I sleep after all.

Now, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes I spend the entire night lying there, eyes closed but mind rambling away about whatever it is my mind can’t shut up about. But even when I don’t sleep a wink, the fact that I rested my body all night still leaves me more functional the next day than I have any right to be.

And the next night I’ll usually be out like a light.

Granted, this will not work for everyone. For those of you who suffer chronic insomnia, you have my deepest sympathies. This strategy may not mean squat for you. And even those of you whose insomnia is intermittent like mine may not find this useful at all.

But if there is even the slightest chance that it can help someone, then I’m happy to type it up and leave it here.

personally, to me, finn/re/y has always been more sibling-like, i did not see/feel the romantic undertones some did.. that being said i still think we should respect peoples ships and not be gloating and throwing shade a fin/nre/y or the shippers imho.

Hi Crystal! After learning you use the Reilly Rhythm I did a lot of research. I noticed how difficult it can be to find resources on this method for some reason, so I created a tumblr dedicated to gather the free resources that be found on net. It's the account I'm using right now, haha. If it's cool with you, could share this info (just reply and people will read)? I just want to help people who like me want to use this method. If it's not cool, that's ok too! I understand. Thanks for you time!

Yes this is super cool!  I get a lot of questions about how to draw, please check out the posts on this blog for info on this method!

How do you get glue out of faux fur?

This is an excellent question!!

I know we’ve all been there. Gluing something and a huge drip falls off the tip of the glue gun and you watch in slow-motion-horror as it lands right on what you intend as a finished part of your costume you are working on. Don’t worry!! You can get it out!!

First: Don’t touch it!!! Let it cool in place. If its just on the tops of the fur you can save it better than if you do anything to it while still hot. Touching it while hot WILL make it worse.

Second: Once cool, Use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) on a rag or cotton swab and start rubbing it on the hot glue. The capillary action of the alcohol paired with friction with the rag/swab will help you loosen up the glue. This also works if you did smear the glue a bit and it soaked in further than you expected. Or.. uhhh …got hot glue on your couch like I did once.

Third: Comb out any remaining hot glue crumbs with a comb or a slicker. Sometimes it helps to pinch the fur between your fingers and use a rolling action to build friction and squeeze/scrape the remaining away without pulling the fur too badly.

IF you got a hot glue drip and it gets pressed in to the fur a bit more than expected or you need to remove it from a part where it seeped in, or that the fur is stuck in a clump now. The rubbing alcohol, rag or swab, and lots of elbow grease (effort) is the way to go. It sometimes will take quite a bit of effort to loosen the hot glue or get up the last little fragments of it.

Hope this helps!!!

How do you deal with the idea that Dean spent 40 years in hell? Like, I have to have a personal headcanon that Cas erased a lot of the abuse he suffered (even if that goes against canon of Dean remembering every moment) because I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that Dean spent more years than he's been alive being tortured and somehow not be a drooling mess on the floor. Like... of all the questionable things on spn, that's the thing I find the most unbelievable.

Could be that Cas did help heal and soothe some of that, but I also think that Dean was pretty far along the road to becoming a demon at that point. Like, that’s the point of hell. It takes all your humanity and twists it until there’s nothing left but black smoke. And then he did finally pick up a knife and begin the torture himself. He’s obviously received a special dispensation of endurance for that sort of stuff, too…

Death has also talked about the resilience of the human soul, and while we know that Dean was deeply traumatized by his experience in Hell and had nightmares long after he got back, he was also brought back for the express purpose of being prepared to say yes to Michael. I think just by his very nature, Dean’s not exactly a normal human.

And then again, he’s been singled out by gods and monsters as something unique even among humanity. Amara wanted him, Chuck wanted to be him… I mean, we’re given to assume that Dean isn’t just your average guy.

But yeah, if thinking that Cas’s grace and healing that he stitched Dean back together with, and returned him to his body with, helped also heal some of the psychological scars from his time in Hell, then I don’t think there’s a problem with that.

Legit question, how do y’all have sex with peoooe you’re actually friends with? I either have to be dating someone, or it has to be completely casual. Just emotionally doesn’t work well for me with any grey area based on past experiences

Can I have some art style advice? I have been struggling with this for so long, I know "Don't worry about buddy it's going to be ok" but I am driving myself crazy about it! I see so much wonderful art in so many wonderful styles I am just filled with inspiration, then when I draw, I try to mush some of my favorite parts of the styles together the eyes, noses, mouths, everything but it just doesn't go together and look so weird. I just don't know how do deal with it anymore. So any advice?

this is a great and difficult question that i’m having trouble answering haha i know saying “draw more” is kind of a cop out, but it’s the best, most honest advice i can give. as you draw more, you start building an intuition for what works and what doesn’t. ask yourself what you’re trying to say and how you want your audience to feel; your style will grow out of your answers. eventually you’ll get to a point where it doesn’t even occur to you that you have a style. you draw like that because it’s the best way to say how you feel. i hope this helps, good luck friend!

Questions for Mun: How long has it taken you to develop your writing skill this well? And I'm curious, how often do you use a thesaurus when you write? I also wanted to complement your recent fic: 'Unless'. It's a work of art! It is by far the best, top quality, Darkiplier fan fiction that I've ever read. I could just read it over and over! You are incredibly talented, and I look up to you hoping to one day write as well as you do!

(( Oh wow, thank you so much! It took a lot of time writing and re-writing ‘Unless’ to try and fix it to what I believe Darkiplier to truly be. It certainly did not come easily. I really appreciate that you enjoyed the read!

As for your question, I began writing stories when I was in about 5th grade. They were stupid short stories, mostly about horses or wolves and meaningless actions that were very undetailed. But it is where I started. I never worried about what other people thought about them, I never was scared that they were strange, or not good enough. Because I had such a fun, exciting time doing it, and creating characters.

I kept at it from then on, joining roleplay sites for both animal and humans. Roleplay communities taught me how to develop deeper characters, to create backstories, and motive. They allowed me to seek influence from other writers and take their own points and develop myself as a writer. I don’t think I would be the same writer I am today if I had not accepted criticism from others in the roleplay sites.

Practice of course always make perfect. Writing stories and roleplaying has been my hobby since I was very young, from making just short two sentence statements to longer more detailed descriptions and dialogue. Never feel like what you write now isn’t good enough, but also always make more room to grow. There are certainly still things that I can work on as a writer, such as expanding my description of things and not using the same adjectives.

Always keep writing! ))

It seriously has only been 7 months, it blows my mind. Like rolling stone cover, an SNL appearance, a late show residency, all within the first 6 weeks of his solo career! A BBC special, an album doc, a duet with stevie Nicks, a bunch of secret shows, all kinds of promo and performances, the main act at the vsfs???? It's absolutely wild just how spectacular his how roll-out has been, he's checked off a lot of boxes on a list of iconic moments and I think he's gonna redefine that list next album

i know he’s done so much and it’s all been so amazing!!

can i ask a question? not being rude just curious, but i see aesthetic blogs post the same picture twice a lot in photosets, is there a reason for that? like is it bc of how tumblr formats stuff or is it just more pleasing to look at that way or smth else? cause its like.. literally the same photo twice n i just never got it

I don’t get it either. Seriously, I see it a lot and I started doing it as well. It is really weird, I don’t know how to explain why everyone does it.

Sometimes one looks better than two, but for some reason posts with the same photo twice is more popular? I always thought that it looks pleasing to people, that’s why it is more popular but I really don’t see why and how it looks pleasing.

Having 9 pictures in a photoset is also very popular…even if it is the same picture….It is just really weird.

People talk a lot about how Harry Potter taught them about friendship and bravery and love overcoming evil etc and of course I think that’s very important but like…

Harry Potter also taught an entire generation of kids that the news media can’t always be trusted to tell the truth, that the government can often be corrupt or incompetent, that the legal system isn’t always right, that the people in power don’t always have your best interests at heart. That bad things sometimes happen to good people, that your heroes aren’t always as perfect as you think they are, that even those with the best intentions can be wrong, that everyone can make mistakes and that often in order to make things right it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice.

…and I think in a way that’s every bit as important as the more positive messages.

Coming home

Sort of a continuation to this one because it needed a happy ending

I was thinking about the discussion on the transition from Kiwi to Ever Since New York and then how the songs literally just continue to be sad and depending on who you are, get sadder. But literally in Woman he says the actual words “I’m empty I know” right after in Ever Since York he compares himself to an empty swimming pool, probably cause he’s cried himself dry, and this the only time he’s like completely directly spoken about feeling empty. Wow. *clenches fist* who hurt him

wow i did not need this pain
