I had this sudden idea , i dont really headcanon it but it seemed interesting to me , what if lance is adopted, its not really likely but maybe thats why he cherishes his family, i mean its not likely but it seems interesting,

[fandom exists to enjoy things - seriously, it doesn’t matter how likely an idea is to be canon, you are here to explore things and play with the characters you’ve come to know and love. so never hesitate to send us an ask, no matter how (un)likely it seems to be, we’re open for everything^^]

MOVING ON TO THE ACTUAL ASK,,,, THIS BREAKS MY HEART??? WOW. W O W.

Imagine tiny, 3 years old Lance in an orphanage with next to no memories of his real parents. And he’s getting along fine with the other kids, he isn’t the most popular but not the most unpopular either, but he doesn’t have real friends. Sure, there is always someone to hang out and have fun with, but no one he can come to when he’s crying over the hurt bird he found in the backyard. Crying is looked down upon - everyone has a hard life, so what business does he have crying about anything? Learn to grow up.

So young Lance learns. He learns to smile and tease and be happy and outgoing. He learns to be confident and radiate positive energy because that’s what makes people want to stick around. When he is 7 years old, he knows how to be a “cool kid”.

A year later he gets put into a foster family. A foster family with lots of other children, all older than him. They are happy and outgoing and touchy and love to hang out with him.

[Once, just once he tested how far this love would go: he pretended to have a stomachache. His foster parents were so worried for him that they forbade him to go to school, his siblings brought him crackers and kept him company in his room while he ‘rested to get better’. His grandma went out and bought new medicine, ‘just in case it might get worse’. For Lance, it was heaven - he thought that these people might really become “family”. People that maybe, one day, he could share secrets with and depend on.]

The first time he cries is when he gets adopted into the family. He is 10 years old then; he is 10 years old and loved and knows that these people want him.

When his family sees him crying, their reaction is not the friendly teasing he anticipates. It’s shocked faces and hugs and reassurances and, finally, laughter when he admits that he is just so happy that he couldn’t help himself. He gets his hair ruffled and arms arounds his shoulders - and when they take their picture with a “612 days in foster care: now we are one family” shield held up by him and his siblings, he later discovers that he wasn’t the only one that had tears in his eyes.

They move to the US. The first months are harsh; he has learned some English in school but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with the kids over here. And the first time he cries because of insults getting hurled his way, his mother comes and envelops him in a hug.

A hug.

No one laughs about his tears anymore. No one puts their image above anyone’s feelings and for the first time Lance really understands what it means to have a family. He vows to protect them all and help them in any way he can. He cooks with his mom; he talks about planes with his dad; he knits with his grandma; he does face masks with his sister; he learns how to play soccer with his brother. Once a week, they all go swimming together - they all miss the ocean. They all miss their home in Cuba.

When a few years later the topic of adoption comes up again, Lance is the first one to say “yes”. His parents look at him in surprise and for the first time ever he really tells everyone how much becoming part of their family means to him. It’s an emotional event and more than one of them ends up crying. But it’s okay: it’s okay because crying is not a bad thing here, they are family, they are each other’s support, they have hugs and shoulder pats and cuddle piles. It’s okay.

A few months later, they adopt two new children. Lance is happy and proud and makes sure to be the best big brother anyone could ever ask for. He teaches them how to tie their shoes, how to sneak out of the house, how to whistle and how to properly throw a ball.

Not even a month later, he goes on a school trip to a planetarium. It’s when he realizes that he wants to become a pilot - he wants to reach for the stars. He wants to fly and reach for the stars and be free of judgement. He wants to fly and have a home to come back to.

When he excitedly tells his family about it, they cheer for him and support him. They help him look for programs to get into flight schools, his father lends him all the plane magazines he has, they buy glow-in-the-dark paint and paint his bedroom ceiling. They help him with his grades to get him into the Garrison flight program and when he gets accepted, they have a huge celebration party in his honor.

He never forgets the picture they made at the airport, all together, waving him goodbye.

[He misses their hugs.]

[He misses their hugs just like he misses the ocean.]

[He misses their hugs, he misses the ocean, he misses home - but over time he comes to realize that he has found a new family. A smaller one than before but one that’s just as lively, just as fun. He still misses them, of course; but this new family makes the distance between them much more bearable.]

After Qrow departed with the warning that Ruby and Yang better buckle up for “the real world” of Huntsmen, we’re back with the Schnee sisters. They aren’t wasting any time! Weiss is going straight for summoning practice.

Yeah, it’d be good trick to learn for the upcoming 2 vs 2 match she’s scheduled for.

Weiss struggled, then failed to conjure anything. With that, the conversation turned to why Mr. Schnee canceled Weiss’ card… Winter said that it was because he wants to force Weiss to talk to him. No more avoiding her father now…

Rather than think about it, Weiss escaped to summoning practice again. Man. Mr. Schnee must be scary.

Winter gave Weiss two options… Either call her father, beg for more money, and explain once more why she chose Beacon over Atlas. Or… Explore Remnant, develop your own legacy as a Huntress, and stand on your own two legs.

I think we all know what Weiss will choose.

Winter is a cool sister.

I would LOVE (😍) to see more dragon au? Maybe jack being a cute yet overprotective dad! Especially with his youngest 😂

Going to combine it with a Bingo prompt :)

BLSummerBingo2017: Fireflies

The draclings had matured to the point where Jack felt safe enough to take them out beyond the lip of his cave where he’d previously allowed them to explore with either himself or Rhys supervising. They were able to breath fire, hunt bugs and small birds, and even flutter a little bit off the ground or glide from the higher piles of treasure in his hoard. Jack preferably would have liked to wait a couple more weeks before going out on their first official trip off of the mountain, but Rhys had started to grow antsy and had practically pushed the dragon king and his brood out of the mouth of the cave in his eagerness to have a proper change of scenery.

Jack had found a quiet clearing deep within the thick of the woods south of the mountain range, complete with a small, slightly overgrown stone cottage that Jack whipped up into a cozy little vacation home for Rhys with a flick of magic. Rhys appreciated the downy bed and constant, warm fire fluttering in the hearth as the dragon kittens tussled and cuddled on the clean wood floors. Rhys soon joined the draclings, smiling at them and scooping them up in a flourish of his voluminous sleeves and snuggling them as Jack finished setting up the last of the protective charms fencing in the little clearing.

Some would say caring for draclings had made Jack soft, but at the very least he was still fearsome enough that no one dared say that to his face

They spent most of their first afternoon lazily napping, Jack and Rhys both falling asleep together on the bed while the draclings cuddled up around them, fitting their pudgy bodies into every little nook and cranny or curling atop of their parents’ resting forms.

By the time dusk rolled around, casting the earth in a cool, shadowy purple, the draclings had had enough of napping and were squirming and wiggling around atop the bed, some more daring even nipping and tugging at their parents’ clothing, wanting to play. As much as he loved the kittens, Rhys whined and hugged a pillow closer to his chest, clearly tired from the flight and wanting to rest more. Jack tugged a thin blanket over his mate’s body, peppering his brow with a kiss before getting up and clapping his palms together, getting the kittens to follow him in a rambunctious little parade out of the cottage and into the warm summer air.

Jack quickly unfurled into his true form, length circling a good quarter of the clearing as he let the kittens gallop out among the tall grass, watching with amusement curled on his scalp lips as they snapped at the buttery moonflowers and wrestled with one another.

He saw Cyrus suddenly crouch down low, eyes glittering in determination as he focused on something—mostly like an insect—to hunt. Jack tilted his head to the side, watching as the eldest kitten wiggled his tail in the air, before lunging forward and pouncing, just barely missing the bug that came to land on his nose. Cyrus frowned, about to snap up the offending insect with his tiny jaws, when suddenly it blossomed into a bright yellow light. The kitten squawked in alarm, bounding away from the strange bug only to send a flurry of even more little lights up into the air.

Jack couldn’t stop himself from chuckling as his kittens all began to chirp at once, extremely curious about the hordes of fireflies suddenly flittering to life all around them. Some tried chasing the bugs, while others tried to eat them, sniff them, or lick them. Cyrus, once he got over his initial fright, even tried to mimic their light with a soft puff of fire, perhaps inadvertently singing a couple of innocent bugs.

Jack found himself quickly being dragged into the fun as well, sending clouds of fireflies up with every heavy footstep, or creating a wave of light when he swished his tail through the long, silky grass. The happy chirps of his kittens were more than enough to light the fires of affection deep in his ancient heart, cracking a fanged smiled on the scarred beast’s face as his brood chased and played with the fireflies throughout the protected clearing.

Eventually Rhys would join them, as entranced and mystified by the beauty of the gathered fireflies as they were as he sat against Jack’s flank, watching their kittens illuminated by the soft dots of light floating and buzzing all around them. Eventually the draclings tuckered themselves out, returning to their parents’ sides to snuggle up in Rhys’ lap or up against Jack’s armored chest, resting in the warmth of family as the two lovers watched the twinkling, silvery stars above together.

This is a genuine question and I really don't want to be offensive, but how can people be agender boys? Is it like a genderfluid/genderflux thing?

It’s no prob, thank you for asking! There are a lot of ways that a person can be an Agender Boy. For some people it is like you suggested it’s related to them being genderfluid/genderflux. Some people are genderfluid and one of the genders they experience is agender and another is boy. Some people are genderflux and their gender fluctuates between agender and boy.

Another way someone can be an agender boy is because demi genders exist. Some people dont feel entirely like a gender but don’t feel comfy with the demi-labels and that’s okay.

Personally I id as an an agender boy because as I’m exploring my identity more and learning more about myself I’ve been coming to terms with being a system. Most of the members in the system are either agender or boys so in spaces im not yet comfortable being open about being a system in it’s easiest just to say I’m an agender boy so that no matter who is fronting no one gets misgendered.

Gender feels can be really complicated and everyone experiences things differently. Really the only reason anyone needs to be valid in saying that they’re an agender boy is because that’s what feels most comfortable for them at the moment.

So I am sure there’s lots of other ways people experience being an agender boy.

ah sorry this got kinda long, hope this clears things up.

I thought shamanism was sort of closed unless you're initiated into a culture/religion that involved it as part of their practice? I could be wrong tho, I'm just curious what your take on that is.

My general response is:

Various cultures are closed, and shamanic paths from those cultures are ALSO therefore closed.

However, shamanism in and of itself available to all.

I do not seek to follow ANY Indigenous shamanic path. Because I have not been invited in to those cultures.

It’s a bit of a challenge to find info that isn’t CORE or closed or appropriated. Try finding a shamanic rattle or drum that isn’t slapped with either appropriated “aesthetic”, or is fully awoken and initiated in to an Indigenous path. I’m starting with nothing most times. But, I am also pleased I get to explore my own culture more.

Washington State University Physicists create 'negative mass'

Washington State University physicists have created a fluid with negative mass, which is exactly what it sounds like. Push it, and unlike every physical object in the world we know, it doesn’t accelerate in the direction it was pushed. It accelerates backwards.

The phenomenon is rarely created in laboratory conditions and can be used to explore some of the more challenging concepts of the cosmos, said Michael Forbes, a WSU assistant professor of physics and astronomy and an affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington. The research appears today in the journal Physical Review Letters, where it is featured as an “Editor’s Suggestion.”

Hypothetically, matter can have negative mass in the same sense that an electric charge can be either negative or positive. People rarely think in these terms, and our everyday world sees only the positive aspects of Isaac Newton’s Second Law of Motion, in which a force is equal to the mass of an object times its acceleration, or F=ma. In other words, if you push an object, it will accelerate in the direction you’re pushing it. Mass will accelerate in the direction of the force.

Language headcanons

Charlie is terrible with languages - he’d tried to pick up several over the years, especially when he lived in Eastern Europe, but to no avail.

WSL - Wizarding Sign Language - was adapted as a more reserved form of regular BSL by a deaf Ravenclaw who kept triggering accidental magic with the excited movements of her hands.

Sybil Trelawney was born speaking Ancient Greek. No one knows why. It was hardly the thing that scared her parents the most.

Ron has an unexpected knack for languages, and after the Parseltounge incident during the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione encourages him to explore it. He picks up French and German without a hitch (although he can’t spell for shit in either), and learned Giant Language on a whim to make Ginny laugh. All three come in handy as an Auror.

Fleur takes great pride in being bilingual. She thinks about her history in French and her future in English.

Snape writes up all his formal calculations, experiments, and new Potions recipes in Latin. It narrows down the amount of people who can read it, and comes in useful to recite in his head while practicing Occulemency.

Hermione kept up her study of Ancient Runes after leaving Hogwarts - partly because she loved the way it made everything simple and clean, just tracing the power words hold, and partly because it made her indispensable at the Ministry. Most of the best Runologists of the generation had taken a side during the war that made them no longer welcome in polite company.

Film Analysis: The Themes of Wonder Woman

Source: Warner Bros. Pictures

I know I pretty much never deviate from SU but I really loved the latest Wonder Woman film. I just wanted to do a brief analysis because I feel like there are so many themes to unpack in the film (so there’ll be spoilers) and I was pleasantly surprised by the way things turned out.

I’ll be using images only from the official trailer WB posted on their YouTube channel though, in case you happen to scroll past and don’t want to see anything yet.

This post doesn’t feel like the appropriate avenue to talk about the cast, the sets, music, and colours, so I’ll be focusing on the film itself, particularly on the story. I enjoyed all the other things about the movie but won’t go into them here.

1. Diana of Themyscira

Source: WBP

Before any other character in DC and now the DCEU, I read and watched Wonder Woman. One thing I’d like to point out is how the story doesn’t shy away from her god-heritage and how that dictates her interactions with others. In fact, one pertinent lens to view this film is that of self-discovery.

Diana doesn’t know she’s god. Throughout the story she believes that she is as capable as any other Amazon (I really liked the Amazons, but maybe another post). She believes she’s equal in capacity and potential. I think this is an important thing to note. Diana didn’t go into war, looking for Ares, certain she was stronger than any other member of Themyscira. She left her home not because of a conviction that only she could do the task but because she believed it was the right thing to do. In her eyes, her mother and the other Amazons just didn’t see the value in entering human affairs the way she did. That was all.

What I appreciated was that she went on her “hero’s journey” not out of a sense of duty as the only one who could do it, but precisely because anyone could go and help put a stop to the fighting. It then was not a question of who was most worthy, which is a question that excludes, but a question of who believed in this cause.

That agency is important in the story, as many heroes’ journeys often begin with a powerful force that pushes the hero to step up. In this case, she could have remained in her insular life, but she decided to step out of the comfort of the island and into a world she’s repeatedly been told does not deserve her.

In that regard, Diana knows what’s waiting for her will be difficult and fulfilling her objective will be a struggle. That struggle extends beyond the fighting, as even walking down the street is an issue for her.

And these “issues” are laden with our concept of heteronormativity. We’re talking about the early 1900s and perceptions of women at the time were brought up again and again. How she should act, speak, and dress are all moments that were presented with a tension that rubs up against our current understanding of equality. For instance, that a session could no longer be held because a woman entered the room is the kind of dissonance that I feel was intended to come off as laughable, because decades later the idea of perpetuating the same attitude is absurd (and very inefficient). In the same way, I feel it calls to attention present and more subtle forms of bias that the film hopes we grow to see as equally absurd to perpetuate.

Source: WBP

Diana is presented as a character of depth. She is exceptionally strong, learned, and yet feels like a believable character because she is also prideful, flawed, funny, and naive. It’s a good proof as to why realistic movies don’t have to be “gritty” per se. Grit isn’t the magical ingredient; it’s grounding. And in her struggles to understand those around her as well as understand herself, the movements of the micro story are embedded and woven into a huge historical narrative, that of the Great War.

And I think that’s where we feel all our individual stories are. We are at once absorbed in the primacy of our own lives while living in the tumult of the world at large. Navigating both the personal and the global is the daily struggle.

Despite all of these struggles, both the physical fighting and the social tension, Diana stays true to her convictions about who she is and what she aims to do. Those beliefs can change, especially in light of new knowledge, which is what does happen in the film as she learns more about Sameer, Charlie, and Chief, but there is a Diana who remains.

“I am Diana, Princess of Themyscira,” she says in the film. Her commitment to an identity of which she isn’t even fully aware is striking, and that message is empowering to any viewer.

Because of this, the “reveal” of her godhood does not seem like an upheaval of her character. It is a part of Diana, but it doesn’t exclusively define her. In fact, as she knows more about herself, of which being a god is only a part, the more she is able to succeed. At the climax of the film, it is when Diana declares she fights for love and peace that she is able to muster up the strength to defeat Ares.

2. Her relationship with Steve

Source: WBP

From the onset, Diana is presented as the protagonist of the film. There is no question. Her first interaction with Steve is her saving him from drowning. Then, she walks in on him immediately after he bathes. Then after they leave the island, she makes it clear that she knows about “the pleasures of the flesh” and just doesn’t believe that having two people sleep beside each other is going to lead to anything if they don’t want it to.

In the earlier parts of the film, their interactions were presented with vulnerability on Steve’s part (danger, nakedness, fear), but we begin to see it in all the characters as the movie progresses. Moreover, we see how they deal with their vulnerability. Steve is a cynic, and this underlies the way he acts.

Steve isn’t a one-note character though. He is complex and has stories implied about him. He is able to think quickly and hold his own in all the situations they’ve been placed. And his occupation as a spy does seem to hit very close to the theme of self-discovery taken by Diana’s character. As a spy, Steve holds on to his core identity and plays with the characters he assumes, never losing sight of who he is. As such, we have two characters very different, but also very similar.

On the other hand, Diana isn’t presented as a character with gaps to fill (in the form of Steve). Rather, she’s a complete individual on her own, which is what makes her decision to love Steve more significant. It isn’t a decision of necessity, but similar to her deciding on taking the hero’s journey, it is a matter of choice.

The romance in the film feels organic in progression. I think it should be noted that the threat of death and the war ahead may have provided an adrenaline rush that propelled their romance forward, but even without taking it into consideration, they had a very intimate platonic relationship prior that could have believably developed towards the romantic. And again, for Steve’s character as well, it was a choice.

I enjoyed the contrast of Diana’s frankness and Steve’s truly trying to be inconspicuous and subtle in all his affairs. By the end of the film, both had begun to take up the better traits in the other. It is especially marked in Steve as he’d begun to trust Diana and open up about himself a little more.

3. The “Villain”

Source: WBP

A lot of people I know found the “villain” Ares to be lacklustre, and the ending cheesy. I disagree because systemic issues and human nature are my favourite things to explore in media, particularly media created for popular consumption.

Very explicitly it’s said in the film that we can’t all point our fingers to one “bad guy.” There is no one reason for war, inequality, poverty, and all of the injustice that we see in the world. There are many people who, and entire societies that orchestrate, execute, and then perpetuate the injustices that plague people even today. Tyrants don’t rise overnight (and they hadn’t in history either). This isn’t the first film to show this, and I hope it isn’t the last.

I really liked how the film pointed out that systemic and systematic injustice exists. There are specific people who do things that are deplorable, but there are also systems that enable them, and I think that is the takeaway from this theme.

I also applaud the look that was given Ares. Instead of the stereotypical villain, who is bigger, more violent, and appears more physically powerful than the protagonist, we have someone who looks unassuming but is infinitely powerful. We don’t see the usual male villain who is really muscular and that becomes the focal point of his villainy. Instead, we have someone manipulative and powerful in a different way. Instead of the traditional god of war who brawls, we have someone equally powerful but more tempered in that power, and it’s the mark of someone who really has lost everything and everyone and now just wants to start over.

Striking also is how all of the characters talk about the war as “The war to end all wars.” That was the honest sentiment of people during the First World War. Operative term here being “first.” That there were more wars that followed really speaks of how those systems and ideologies lived on after the people who instigated the conflict. And situated in the context of all those who died and lost everything, it seems callous that we would keep fighting one another and causing more destruction. But it is something that’s been done and is now etched forever in history.

The non-violent message features rather heavily in the film’s climax. When Diana fights Ares, the first thing to go is her sword, the one she believed was the god-killer. The sword is a classic symbol of violence, conflict, and war, and it was destroyed almost immediately. It’s interesting because she clung to that weapon throughout the film, and it gave her faith in her own abilities.

In the end, it is not brute force that will stop the existing brute force. Diana herself put a stop to Ares. It was what emanated from her that destroyed the embodiment of violence.

In that regard, it is the individual who has to decide not to give in to the temptation of furthering violence and injustice. After all, Ares’ main role in the film was to tempt. That was exactly what he did to Diana and she resisted.

4. The role of Dr. Poison

Source: WBP

Isabel Maru had such a presence in the film, even though she didn’t feature on the screen as often as did the other characters. Back in London, they deemed her the greatest threat. They were setting out specifically to destroy her laboratory.

I find her character very interesting because we get the faintest sign of a backstory from her and it’s still all very coherent. Her file reveals that she didn’t always have an injury on her face, and based on her interactions with Ludendorff and later, Steve, she’s searching for acceptance and affirmation. There is a subtle manipulation that goes into convincing her to continue creating poisons and chemical weapons.

Even among enemy lines, there is a struggle for her not to be infantilised and patronised, or to be viewed only as a woman in the case of her interaction with Steve. Especially in the latter scene, Isabel is fully aware of this and explicitly tells him she knows. She may not have been pulling all the strings, but she was presented from the beginning as a strong secondary character to the main enemy.

Diana was able to defeat Ludendorff relatively easily, but Maru had survived until the end of the film and was in the climax. What Ares tempted Diana to do was destroy Dr. Poison, and Diana let her go.

In depth: Throughout the movie, Diana was never directly pitted against her. The former’s goal was always to remove Ares in the form of Ludendorff. Then suddenly, close to the end, Ares pits the two women against each other (It’s all a very familiar story). Diana chooses not to perpetuate the cycle of killing and violence that characterises the pasts of so many of the other characters.

5. What it leaves us

Source: WBP

One emergent theme from the film that we get is a loss of innocence. At first, Diana is idealistic and feels her beliefs are clear-cut. Liars are bad. Ares is responsible for everything. Being strong is enough to save the day.

Gradually, we see her belief in these things erode, eventually replaced by an understanding that the world is more complex than it was made out to be. At the same time, there are moments when world doesn’t want to be saved.

It culminates when Steve sacrifices himself at the climax of the film. At this point, it appears as though there is no use in fighting Ares, and it seems as though Ares was proven correct all along. Human beings are cruel and violent and selfish. It becomes so easy to assume apathy. What does it matter what one person does if there are all these people and systems that perpetuate injustice? It becomes easy to give up and do nothing or give up and join in.

At the same time, though, Steve’s loss presents the other side of the story. Human beings are empathetic and altruistic; they try to see the good in others and are moved to change by others’ suffering. It is true that a lot of the systemic issues we see in the movie, particularly for equality and peace, are still present today, but we’re making progress.

Diana emerges with a realistic working understanding of human beings. They aren’t perfect, and they are capable of great harm, but also great good. As she said, she’s realised it wasn’t up to her to save the world for them, but she’d be there when they did make the decision.

In our current socio-political climate, it is almost the default to affect the same hopelessness and apathy. But that’s why the message of love, justice, and peace was anything but “cheesy.” It’s precisely what we can do in the environment we’re put in. It’s something that is in our control, and like all things the movie presents, it is a choice.

I really love Wonder Woman. Before there was Harley Quinn in my life, there was and will always be Wonder Woman. I loved the way Jenkins told the story and I really hope for more like it in the DCEU. So much could be written specifically about the character as a woman, and all the imagery that comes with it. And the Amazons. Countless posts could be dedicated only to analysing their social structure, values, and dynamics. The film was great and it did justice to a lot of what made Wonder Woman so appealing when I was growing up.

Comic Hasan Minhaj On Roasting Trump And Growing Up A ‘Third Culture Kid’

As the American-born child of parents who emigrated from India, comic Hasan Minhaj often feels a little out of place. “I exist in this hyphen,” he says. “I’m an Indian-American-Muslim kid, but am I more Indian or am I more American? What part of my identity am I?”

Those are the kinds of questions Minhaj deliberately sidestepped when was getting his start in comedy. “It was almost like I was on the playground all over again,” he says of his early career. “I just was afraid if I get real … people aren’t going to like it; they’re going to think I’m a freak.”

After years doing stand-up, Minhaj became a correspondent with The Daily Show in 2014. The following year, he starred in Homecoming King, a one-man stand-up show in which he began to open up on stage about his experiences as a “third culture kid” who doesn’t fully share in either the culture of his parents or that of his hometown of Davis, Calif.

“It wasn’t until I started exploring the personal stuff, the one-man-show stuff, that I kind of got a chance to be more open to the audience and to my family,” he says.

Minhaj’s new stand-up special, which is also called Homecoming King, is available on Netflix starting Tuesday.

Your INFP ‘Companion’ unit User Guide and Manual

Your INFP ‘Companion’ unit User Guide and Manual

This manual sanctioned by and concept credit to @intpboard ;)

CONGRATULATIONS! Somehow you have found a wandering and bewildered INFP. Evidently they have offered you this manual after hearing you support Sherlock and their OTP. Take a moment to feel good about yourself, this is an important step in your relationship.

Your INFP companion will come with the following accessories:
Three (3) diaries (CAUTION: Perusal unadvised. Touch these at your own risk)
Three (3) everyday outfits
Two (2) indie outfits
Two (2) Tumblr blogs
One (1) laptop
One (1) mobile device
One (1) pair of custom-built earphones
One (1) unique tea mug
One (1) cat

Software:
You INFP comes programmed with the following traits:
Fi: Your INFP is a special snowflake. They will have invisible feels, but keep an eye out for the cute smile. And they probably really do Know that feeling.
Ne: Your INFP is weird and likes ambiguous things. May meme occasionally.
Si: Your INFP likes to store up good memories and database feelings like buried treasure for that novel they’re writing.
Te: Although it is their inferior function, your INFP can be executive and use cold hard logic to be remarkably strong and creative. They may need help adapting to the harsh outside world. May secretly hate everything (including themselves) if unhealthy.

Getting Started:
To set up your INFP companion:
1. Fill mug with tea and place INFP in close proximity of cat and a sunset and leave to bask until heart is pleasantly warm.
2. Sync with Tumblr (this should happen automatically through a deep emotional connection inherent in all INFPs, much like Bluetooth).
3. Allow thirty (30) minutes of continuous data exchange.
4. Sit beside them for thirty (30) minutes in silence as Human Presence Conditioning.
5. Get up. If your INFP moves to follow, they have successfully activated and synced with you. If not, repeat Step 4 with the cat.

Modes:
Quiet (default) - quiet cinnamon roll. May stare off into space, usually either very sweet or very sarcastic, depending on your model. May be a socially awkward if brand new. Be careful not to forget about or leave behind your INFP when it is in this mode.
Talkative - frequent activation of this mode usually correlates with quick Human Presence Conditioning. Explore topics until you find which ones activate this mode, you may be surprised.
Feels - may need unusual amount of solitude with all accessories in easy access. Be receptive of feels if expressed, to avoid software crashing.
Crazy/happy - have fun, roll with it, but beware of hazard unwariness.
Unhealthy/shadow (locked) - only activated under extreme stress. May burn everything in its path, or burn self in solitude.

Relationships with other units:
NFs:
Your INFP’s homey home. May feel threatened or devalued by INFJ units due to social constructs, but usually end up getting along.
SPs: Interesting territory for your INFP. May find Se overwhelming, but generally find them intriguing, perhaps from a distance.
NTs: May or may not get along, if they do, have very interesting discussions, good for software conditioning. May be cut by perceived coldness if new.
SJs: Can be very fun. INFP gets to feel like an educator in Ne, and may learn from high Si if healthy. Some of these usually necessary for grounding your INFP during lightning storms.

Feeding:
Your INFP may be constantly snacking. A ‘regular’ diet is not strictly necessary, but sneak some vitamins into their packet and fetish foods occasionally.

Grooming:
Some INFP units require more grooming than others. If your INFP excessively self-grooms, it is probably not just a phase (see Bjork). You have little to no control over this.

Sleeping:
Your INFP companion unit runs the risk of becoming nocturnal. Discover the cause for this - usually either angst or creativity. If the former, see Troubleshooting (p. 9). If the latter, arrange bedside outlets - NOT tumblr.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Why does my INFP procrastinate so much?
Unlike INTPs, INFP units have Te software, however it is in its beta version upon unit activation and the full version can be installed after some conditioning. Engaging them in tasks they have a personal investment in and using Divide and Conquer applications may aide effectiveness.

Why is my INFP so sensitive to criticism/so defensive/so salty?
See above question (Te software). INFP units also have an Identity Crisis application that is hosted by Fi, activated by ‘negative’ external stimulus and executed by Te. With the full version of Te, this application can lead to powerful self-transformation. Sensitivity should decrease with conditioning, however positive affirmation will help stabilize application launch.

Help! My INFP unit is stuck in Unhealthy / Shadow mode!
There are three main manifestations of unhealthy mode. If in shadow functions, an ENFJ may be helpful. If in the grip of Te, they may need help coming to terms with reality. Often fire and brimstone anger and ‘just do it’ mentality can help pull your INFP out of apathy long enough to grow healthier. If in an Fi-Si loop, thrust you INFP into a new situation, or several. In any case, getting your INFP to communicate their problems to other units (other NFs are usually best) will be highly beneficial, although your INFP’s Fi may resist initially.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS on acquiring your new INFP unit! Have fun!

What about temperaments, most species tend to have the same temperament but humans vary so drastically and it can shift in an instant! We aren't all one or the other either, the sweetest person can turn into a killing machine with the right push! Our ability to shift temperament would definitely be confusing

Kaled Officer: Human crewmate Linetti is being very irrational today, she through 3 of my hind shoes into the decontamination pod because “That junk don’t fly with me boi!”.
Kaled Cook (The closest thing they have to a doctor): Are we seeing first symptoms of their insanity on a deep-space exploration? It’s sad to see the first one go…
Human Crewmate Peralta: She’s fine, the coffee machine on deck 3 is out of commission and she can’t get to deck 5 before her shift.
Kaleds: So this is normal for your species?
Peralta: The mood changes? Yes. With a lack of coffee? Definitely. Though someone may want to get her away from the airlock controls, or you won’t be seeing those shoes again….

With so many people from around the world talking about there experiences in school, it can be a little confusing to figure out what it all means. All states have different standards so things can vary a lot, but here’s a general guide to help you figure out what the heck your American friends are talking about.

The Domestic Garden Witch: I Sea What Ye Did There!

So maybe you’re a college witch with limited space and money, limited to the one window in your dorm. Or, maybe you’re a witch without extensive backyard space who wants to start up a magical garden. Perhaps you’re a kitchen witch who wants the freshest herbs right at her fingertips.

For many witches, having a garden seems to be a bit of a no-brainer. After all, plants and magic go hand-in-hand. Plus, when thinking of a witch, it’s hard not to think of a cottage in the woods with a little vegetable garden out front. Unfortunately for the majority of us, our cottage in the woods is a tiny flat, and our garden out front is a windowsill with limited space.

This is when it comes time to embrace your craftiness and bring your garden indoors! Not only does it place your garden in a convenient location, it also allows you to freshen the air, recycle what would otherwise harm the earth, and embrace your witchy green thumb!

Where The Garden Meets The Sea

This is a little garden idea that might not be accessible for everyone. However, I live very close to the ocean, and as the days begin to get longer and the weather warmer, the beach becomes more and more of a destination (yes, even when you live right there, you still wind up wanting to go down and sunbathe, swim, explore tide pools, and spend the rest of the day cleaning sand out of places you didn’t know you had). It makes sense, then, to look at sea shells as an option for incorporating into garden witchery.

Most often, I’ve seen seashells used as no more than decorative additions to gardens, carefully placed among flower beds and succulent gardens as accents, or incorporated into the container either by having been cemented or glued in. But very rarely do I ever see shells be used as the container for a plant.

Ideally, you may have to use small succulents for this project, as their shallow root systems and limited size allow them to grow with very little trouble, depending upon what shell you’re using. Take a reasonably sized seashell (conches like the one pictured above work, but here on California’s Central Coast, I feel abalone is much more appropriate) and check to see if it has any breathing holes (some species have holes in the shells to facilitate the movement of water into and out of the creature’s gills without having to be exposed to predators - this is particularly noticeable in abalone). If it does not, carefully drill small holes into the bottom of the shell to promote drainage.

Using a fine gravel (aquarium gravel works well), place a drainage layer into the shell before adding your potting mix and plants. Water them and make sure they get plenty of sunlight!

This is an excellent way of bringing a bit of both the sea and the garden into a dorm room, windowsill, or even into a well-lit bathroom!

How Can I Witch This?

Continuing with last week’s theme of focusing on the material of the container rather than the decorations that can be added to it, seashells are an exceptional addition to a practice if you have a bit of a connection with the element of water.

Seashells have long been used for various reasons ranging from divination tools to eating utensils to decorative and fashionable trinkets, and even as currency (as is the case with cowry and abalone).

When working with shells, consider the creature they come from, and how they may play a role in your practice. For instance, abalone (I know I mention it quite a bit, but it’s one of my favorites and is strongly linked to local history) is a form of sea snail that was often caught for food. Not only is it therefore linked with prosperity and health in addition to water, it is also linked to well-being and financial stability - both the meat and the shells were often traded between Native American tribes in the area. The inside of an abalone shell is lined with Mother of Pearl, a beautiful substance that can be linked with money, protection, and feminine beauty. All of these aspects come to play in the way that I use abalone shells in my practice, and this is a great example of how to approach using seashells in your work.

Try to use shells that correspond with the plants that you’re using to enhance those properties, and you could even treat the shells much like you would stones if you make multiple gardens, creating garden grids that further enhance the energies you’re trying to bring into your life!

Using a seashell as a gardening container is a potent symbol for life-giving energies. Though the earth is most often associated with motherhood, so too is water linked with life, and the sea nearly always connected with feminine qualities in some way or another. As such, a shell garden like this could make for a beautiful and potent charm for expectant mothers or couples who are trying to have a child. If you’re a male witch trying to get in touch with your femininity, this is a great form of spellwork for such a purpose, as well.

So next time you walk along the beach and find an abandoned shell, consider whether such a gift is meant for such a beautiful union with the earth!

May all your harvests be bountiful!
Blessed Be! )O(
