Pairing: Luke Alvez x Reader
You froze in confusion as you swung open your apartment door. You weren’t expecting to see your superintendent stood outside, tool box in hand.
“Can I help you?”
“Sorry to disturb you Ms Y/L/N, but I’m here to fix the faulty lock on your front door and update your security system.” He smiled at you kindly as you gestured for him to come inside your apartment.
“Thank you so much! I can’t even remember reporting these maintenance issues, I’ve been so busy with work.” You explained, leaning up against the wall as the superintendent began adjusting the lock with a screwdriver.
“You didn’t Ms Y/L/N, your nice boyfriend called up to inform me. He’s a keeper that one.” He cheerfully called to you as he rummaged around in his bag.
You raised your eyebrows in surprise. You’d been dating your boyfriend Luke Alvez for a couple of months now. It was still quite early in your relationship, but you were both falling fast for one another. It just felt so natural - as if you’d known each other your whole lives.
Consequently, you’d spent a lot of time at each other’s places. Often Luke’s apartment was the setting of most of your dates, it was just easier that way - given his hectic job as an FBI agent and his responsibilities to his dog Roxy. You weren’t complaining, you loved spending the night at Luke’s place - especially given how much you adored playing with Roxy.
However, following your wonderful date last night, you’d invited him inside your apartment. You hadn’t thought twice about his inquiries about your broken lock and faulty alarm, you’d been much too preoccupied with unbuttoning his shirt.
He’d left early the next morning, murmuring sincere apologies about a new case coming up in the office. You’d just smiled softly before gently kissing him goodbye.
He’d texted you from the plane, informing you that he’d be away in Florida for the next couple of days and that he already couldn’t wait to see you again. You’d assumed that would be the last contact you’d have until the case was solved, the BAU was very demanding.
But, apparently Luke had found the time to contact your superintendent about the security problems in your apartment.
You pulled out your mobile as you strolled into your living room, dialling Luke’s number. You grinned at the sound of his deep voice.
“Hey, how’s the case going?”
“Pretty good actually, we’ve already been able to deliver the profile. Hopefully we’ll catch the unsub soon and I’ll be back as soon as possible.” You could hear the smile in his warm tone.
“I hope so.” You bit your lip as you pondered your next words. “My superintendent stopped by to fix my lock and alarm…”
You heard Luke chuckle softly. “Good, I didn’t like the thought of you being home alone without proper security.”
“You know I can look after myself Luke.” You sighed. You really did appreciate his concern, but felt a little defensive over your independence. Stubbornness had always been a flaw of yours. “Why did you do it?”
You heard him scoff in disbelief down the phone. “I did it because I love you God damn it.” There was an awkward silence following his outburst. It was the first time either of you had used the l-word.
It suddenly made sense to you. You felt touched by his concern. He cared enough to remember the tiny details and throwaway comments about your door not locking properly.
You heard him sigh heavily. “Look I’m sorry Y/N, I didn’t meant to blurt that out like that. I just-”
“I love you too.”
“You do?” Luke sounded surprised yet the elation in his voice was evident.
You laughed softly. “Of course I do Luke…and thank you for looking out for me.”
