Success 56! Mary Costa, the speaking and singing voice of Princess Aurora in the 1959 Disney film, Sleeping Beauty. Another one I am very fortunate to receive. Just 2 days ago she released an open letter on her 86th birthday thanking fans for all the letters and autograph requests throughout the years but that now she has sadly decided to no longer fulfill autograph requests. When I read that I was so disappointed, I had mailed my letter off on March 30th. But today my photos came back signed! She must be finishing up her mail she got prior to her released letter. I’m so thrilled because her signature is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and I really wanted it for my collection. This one took 9 days.

There’s no deadline on confirming who you are. Who you are today is not who you are tomorrow. Think about who you were 5 years ago, regardless of identity, just personality-wise, you’re so different from who you were 5 years ago, let alone maybe 5 days ago. You don’t have to be stuck in this box of who you are and you’re always in control of how you feel and how you identify. And even if you’re 50, even if you’re 70, even if you’re 10, whatever you feel now does not have to be the end all of who you are tomorrow.

1. brilliant mathematician Paul Erdös took amphetamines daily to fuel his intensive work schedule. A concerned friend bet he couldn’t quit. He went cold turkey for 30 days to prove he wasn’t an addict and then started up again saying “you’ve set mathematics back by a month.”

2.  There is a New York City hot dog vendor who pays $289,000/year for his location.

A young dad stands in his bedroom. It just so happens that today, the 56 of Feburary, is this young dad’s birthday. Though it was 221 years ago he was given life, it is only today he will be given a name. ….can you believe that

I was tagged by the incredibly adorable PerpetuallyKelsey to stop. drop and selfie. If you want to follow someone that always has a smile on her face, follow Kelsey. It’s fun to watch her compete and do all the things I love to do only she’s much faster and she’s doing it at the competitive collegiate level instead of the old lady level, so much more entertaining.

I’ve decided that today is the first day of my Goofy Challenge training. I’ve settled on Hal Higdon’s Advanced II schedule with some minor flipping of the days to accommodate my coaching schedule. I’m 20 weeks out from the race and it’s an 18 week plan, which gives me two weeks to get into the groove of the schedule.  I also need to settle on goal and training paces. So many fun things to think about!

Today was a 5 mile run with some quarter mile pick ups. It  was a glorious 56 degrees.

I read in Runners’ World an article about a guy coaching himself for the first time, and he has a lot of the same training philosophies as I do. He said he was going to do a set of push-ups after every run just because he liked to feel strong. I honestly haven’t enjoyed doing push-ups since my double mastectomy/reconstruction almost 5 years ago. They aren’t super comfortable to do, but I do miss that feeling of cranking them out and feeling strong. I did my first set today, with the compromise of doing them on my knees instead of military style. I used to be able to do 3 sets of 15 military style push ups with no problem, but I’m too afraid to do them now. I did one set of 15 on my knees today after my run and we’ll see what happens over the next 20 weeks.

56 years ago today, Buddy Holly’s plane crashed along with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, killing all three.

This day would later be dubbed “The Day the Music Died.”
