it took me back

He’s figured out that while jerking his paw away won’t stop me from doing his nails, slowly rolling onto his back and gently pulling his whole leg away will stop me immediately because I cannot handle the cute.

*it looks like he’s baring his teeth but he’s not. His top lip got stuck on his gums.

You rolled your eyes and stared at Meredith.

“He did it. It’s on him. I’m not stopping him from what he loves to do,” You said, walking next to her on your way to the O.R.

“He loves you, I know he does. He wouldn’t do this on purpose,” She told you.

“He would do it to piss me off, which is really unfair, because I haven’t done anything in god knows long… The last time I did something to him, it was buying the wrong furniture! Furniture, Meredith! And he forgave me after we took it back. Not this time. Cheating on me? Yeah, I’m not forgiving him. That’s why we’re getting a divorce. He’ll be with whoever he wants to be with now.”

You finished braiding your hair and put on your scrub cap.

“Meredith… Please… Just drop it. For me? Please drop it. I want you to drop it. What’s done is done. He can’t take it back.”

She stopped and pointed. You looked to see Alex stand in front of you.

“What,” You snapped, walking into O.R. 2.

“We need to talk,” He followed you, leaving Meredith in the hallway.

“What is there to talk about? We’re getting a divorce. That’s all there is to talk about.”

“No, that’s it. Divorce talk. Otherwise, I’m done with you. Now get out. I have surgery to perform.”

“We need to talk about this.”

“I don’t think so. No. We don’t need to talk about this. You cheated on me. Your biggest mistake, ever. I’ve forgiven you after every stunt you pulled, but this is my last straw. I’ve been with you through thick and thin, and this… This? You’re an asshole, okay? Now, again, get out.”

He sighed, getting out of the scrub room. You didn’t realize you were crying until you rubbed your face in frustration.

Alex sat in the cafeteria, staring at the table with a cup of coffee in his hand.

“Wow, you look stressed,” Maggie sat in front of him with Amelia.

“Yeah, well, I messed up, big time, apparently.”

“Apparently? You cheated on her, what else is there to say,” Amelia asked.

“If I did, then why don’t I remember it?”

“You don’t remember it?”

“I would’ve remembered it. I’ve cheated on a lot of girls, trust me. (Y/n) was my last straw. I promised, and I don’t know what to do. I don’t even remember who it was. Who was it? Was it a nurse? A random girl at the bar?”

He ran his hand through his hair and continued staring.

“Wait, you’re saying you don’t remember,” Maggie asked.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking,” Amelia asked.

“TOX screen.”

“Why,” Alex asked.

“We’re going to take a drug test. If you don’t remember, and you’re trying this hard, which is almost surprising, then we’ll take a drug test. The body never lies,” Amelia explains.

“Okay, I know what a TOX screen is, I’m asking why are you helping me.”

“Let’s be honest, if Maggie’s getting around, you don’t need to be.”

“Okay, I don’t know if I should take offense to that or not,” Maggie looked at Amelia.

“Doesn’t matter. Let’s go.”

The girls rushed Alex to get a drug test done. Amelia smirked.

“And we were correct,” She said, showing Alex his results.

“You had Flunitrazepam (A/n: He’s basically roofied, I had to look this up to know what it was actually) in your system,” Maggie grinned.

Alex nodded and gave it back to her.

“What are you doing,” Amelia asked.

“Why does it matter? She’s not going to forgive me. She hates me. As much as I love her, she hates me. She doesn’t want to look at me, I made her cry trying to talk about it… I’m not hurting her. If it hurts me, it’s fine. I don’t care. I’m not hurting her,” Alex sighed, getting up.

“I have surgery in 15 minutes.”

He walked off. Amelia looked at Maggie.

“We have to tell her,” Maggie said.

“I know,” Amelia nodded.

They both walked into your O.R. and stared at you.

“What’s up girls,” You asked.

“It’s about Alex,” Amelia said.

“Okay, I’ve said this several times, I don’t want to talk about this.”

“5 minutes,” Maggie said.

“Excuse me?”

“5 minutes of your time. That’s it. Then we’ll drop it.”

Amelia looked at Maggie in shock. You looked at the both of them as they stared right back at you. You sighed and check your watch.

“You got 4 minutes and 43 seconds, go.”

“Flunitrazepam,” Amelia said.

“He had Flunitrazepam in his blood stream. It’s been lagging in there for the past week.”

“T-That’s a high dosage.”

You closed up your patient.

“Take him back to his room,” You nodded to the nurses.

“Yes, it is, which explains why Alex is out of it for the past week. He said he couldn’t remember,” Maggie said.

“Remember what? Who he slept with? Trust me, I’ve seen him do that so many times, he can call the girls out by name.”

“Yeah, which is why we thought this was shocking. He doesn’t remember.”

You stood up straight.

“He’s lying.”

You grabbed a tablet and started filling your patient’s stuff out.

“He isn’t… He said he wasn’t going to tell you he had this in his system in the first place. He said he wasn’t going to hurt you.”

“Too late for that.”

“I mean, he hurt me alright.”

You covered your mouth.

“Then why are you crying?”

“I don’t know. He hurt me? something along those lines?”

“Maybe you’re happy he’s not to blame? Maybe you love him more than you know?”

You rubbed your face and sat down.

“(Y/n) … He loves you. He wouldn’t hurt you. He said… Well… what did he say about her,” Maggie asked.

“He said you were the last straw. He wasn’t going to cheat on you, he promised,” Amelia looked at you.

“Promises are meant to be broken,” You whispered.

“Yes, but… (Y/n) … Maybe this promise was broken for a reason?”

You looked down at your watch.

“It’s been 10 minutes… Let me finish filling out this for my patient please?”

“Of course,” Maggie said, pulling Amelia out.

When they both got out, Amelia sighed.

“I really hope we saved a marriage,” She said, walking away.

“I really hope so too.”

You got out of the O.R. and sighed. You sat down in front of the O.R.s and waited.

“(Y/n)? It’s getting late,” Meredith’s voice shook you from your thoughts.

“I’m waiting,” You murmured.

She nodded, taking the hint.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

You nodded.

“Okay, see you tomorrow.”

After 3 long, painful hours, you saw the O.R. door open. Alex walked out, rubbing his face and yawning. You got up and walked up to him. He looked down at you.

“Are you here to yell at me again and say we’re over,” He asked.

“Is it true? Is what the girls said, true,” You asked.

“Amelia and Maggie said you had Flunitrazepam in your system, is that true?”

“Please… I want to know.”

“…Yes, it is, so what?”

You let out a shaky breath.

“Okay, okay, I’ve just been… Thinking… about what they said… You didn’t want to hurt me, right?”

“What did they tell you? I swear to god, if they told you-.”

“Alex, please… Just… I haven’t done a whole lot of listening, so… Tell me the truth. I’m willing to listen.”

He stared at you. He sighed, looking up at the ceiling before looking back at you.

“(Y/n) … I didn’t want to. I really didn’t. I don’t remember what happened. If I could, I’d make sure it wouldn’t happen all over again. I wouldn’t want you to start hurting for something stupid I did. I would want to do whatever with you, instead of regretting what I did. I… I’m sorry. I’ll apologize however many times you want, I’m sorry.”

You looked down.

“I should really apologize. I haven’t really listened to you… You love me, right?”

“I love you much more than just saying it. I’d probably kill myself in different ways to hear you say it back.”

You tugged at the end of his shirt.

“Wanna go home?”

“…Yeah… I’d love that.”

“I love you enough to go home with you. I love you enough to forgive you. I’ll say I love you until the day I die, because… damnit, I’ve married you for this long. I love you. I love you, I love you, I… Love you.”

You looked up at him and smiled. He leaned down and gave you a deep kiss, one you happily accepted.

Enjolras/Grantaire modern AU fic but written as Victor Hugo would have done

Chapter III: In which Enjolras and Grantaire encounter the crowd at the Louvre

Enjolras, striding imposingly up stairs with Grantaire at his heels, exited the Tuileries métro onto the rue de Rivoli. They followed the road east, alongside the Jardin des Tuileries, past the statue of Jeanne d’arc, then crossed through the Jardin…[etc]…and finally arrived in front of the Pyramide du Louvre.

‘It is no less busy than usual,’ remarked Enjolras, his youthful beauty striking even in the crowd of hundreds.

‘That is what I said; even on a Tuesday morning on such an ugly day the tourists will flock to this grand triangle for the purpose of a single photograph. To have such motivation! Had I but an ounce of it for such a thing, my own portrait would be smiling on the wall alongside Mona Lisa herself,’ replied Grantaire. ‘But no matter, we are here for the heart, not the skin. And which is more important? Let us enter. If it is alright with you.’

Enjolras gently clasped his hand with a smile. ‘It is.’
