There was only one person who could ever be at his side, to keep up with his schemes and do whatever task he asked, and that was you. A king should have a queen of a like mind and Loki knew you were a perfect fit. You would be his partner in all his wicked deeds.
“I need you at my side,” Loki said. “No one is more willing to do what must be done, for me and my future kingdom.”
Loki’s eyes were always piercing into your core and nothing thrilled you more than to know that all your hard work would finally pay off one day as you became his queen.
“I will serve my king in any way possible,” you said, though your eyes betrayed the double meaning behind your words. Power, above all else, was something neither of you could resist.
“You shall be the most fiercesome queen Asgard has ever seen,” Loki breathed as he pictures the two of you finally having it all.
Aries:Agression - Arians are bold and strong but not naturally aggressive in the sense that most think. As the children of the Zodiac they can struggle to express themselves and view emotions in a somewhat immature way. They feel that revealing the soft, loving, delicate part of them that hopes and dreams in ways that no other Sign could ever is a weakness, so they cover it up with a mask of aggression.
Taurus:Confidence - Taureans can seem like the most put-together, strong, and intelligent individuals of the Zodiac but deep down they are afraid. They don’t feel secure emotionally so they put up a front of being above such feelings and are typically materialistic - objects won’t let them down or turn them away, people do. When they feel weak, alone and they need something to rely on, they fake it till they make it.
Gemini:Know-it-all - Geminis have a lot of information swirling around in their heads and they are very intelligent. But they can use this intelligence as a mask. They act like they know it all, as if their knowledge makes them better, because at times they feel like that’s all they have. And if they have nothing to offer, no one will listen to them, no one will talk to them or value them.
Cancer:Sensuality - Soft Cancerians, so desperate for love, will use their sexuality as a method of receiving attention, to make up for feeling unloved, or because their gentler, romantic view of love is not always viewed favorably by today’s society. They need love and true connections which can be stunted by the harsh world around them and lead to this coping method or front.
Leo:Pride - We all know about a Lion’s pride but very few realize why Leos put up this front. In short, it’s because they are insecure. They boast and seek to control the world around them because on the inside they are in fact self-conscious. The next time a Leo seems too abrasive or pushy cut them some slack, they are doing what they can to feel secure.
Virgo:Dependability - Virgos are dependable, don’t get me wrong, but they try very hard to be. Their biggest fear is to be useless. When they are being your shoulder to lean on, in a strange way they are leaning right back on you. They need to help others, or at least be needed by them, to feel worth something. Though they may see so stable all on their own, they truly need others but they aren’t always ready to admit it.
Libra:Perfection - Librans feel they must be perfect at all times, they allow themselves no room for error, all because they care so deeply about what others think of them. They must meet the approval of others, this is their greatest desire, so they seek to appear as perfect as possible whether perfection to them is top grades and a clean appearance or appearing as if they don’t care and are above it all. In reality they are just like the rest of us behind that mask.
Scorpio:Cynicism - Scorpios are not cynical and dark to their core, they are simply afraid to hope. They know the dark inner workings of the mind and society, so love and success can seem like a mere fantasy to them no matter how desperately they want it. Pessimism becomes a shield protecting them from being let down or worse. No matter how distant they may seem, on the inside they are still hoping.
Sagittarius:Independence - To Sagittarius, independence is perhaps the most important thing in their world so when they are in need, instead of seeking out support or someone to lean on, they pretend to need no one. Despite being social creatures who seek to communicate and learn from those around them, they can’t admit that they need someone to come home to at the end of the day, making them sometimes appear hot and cold to others. Instead of seeking out what they need, they put up a front.
Capricorn:Seriousness - Capricorns are ruled by severe Saturn so it only makes sense that they work so hard to seem strong and mature, but this is only another front. On the inside they are trapped children who often didn’t have a proper childhood - sometimes this is simply because they themselves expect too much. If you give them the chance they’ll show you just how awkward, loud, and immature they really are.
Aquarius:Intimacy - Aquarians have a complicated relationship with society. They have a lot of friends and are very social but no matter how outgoing and intimate they may seem they are truly closed off. They want to be social and popular but at the same time they are afraid to grow close to another person, to open up and share their emotions. They fear that they will always be outside looking in yet they also fear what might happen if they truly let go. So they get as close as they can and hide their fear behind a mask.
Pisces:Lightheartedness - That Pisces that always seems to be in their own little world, who giggles and never seems to take things seriously? They are burdened by thoughts and feelings beyond what your average person experiences let alone handles. Their lighthearted, unsophisticated behavior is all a front in hopes of lessening that burden. If you were haunted, would you be strong enough to bear that smiling mask?
“I’m going to start studying right after I’ve ______”…you won’t.
“Oooh, I’m going to highlight my notes with 49930 different colours to help me retain information” Highlight key words!!
“Everyone else has these amazing, expensive notebooks, pens and Macbooks. Maybe I need them too to be a good student.” Hint: You don’t
“There more I manage to cover during this hour, the more I’ll learn” Remember: Quality NOT quantity
“Revision is so unnecessary. I have a good memory and I know I’m going to remember this on the test I have in 2 months”… sorry to break this to you but you probably won’t remember a lot. Go through everything you’ve covered during the last week on the weekend.
“Oh boy, I’m so tired. I think I’ll just read this chapter in bed.” Hint: You’ll fall asleep
“Okay so I need to study this and this much to get a better grade than _____“ wth nonono. Study for yourself??
“Omg, I didn’t study today. I’m such a failure” You don’t have to study every day. You shouldn’t study every day!! Have at least one day a week when you do nothing school related, your brain needs the rest!
“I didn’t get a ____ in the test. I must be dumb idiot and a complete failure who won’t accomplish anything in life” One grade doesn’t affect your life one bit.
“I must study law, medicine or any other STEM subject to be considered a real hardworking student” Hint: Humanities and other subjects are just as hard, okay?
“My teacher is bad and that’s why I won’t ever learn this” Take your computer, open google, google the stuff you don’t get. Was it so hard? Don’t blame your teacher for not understanding something. They’re humans and not perfect. Be ambitious and try to teach yourself with the help of your friends, the internet, youtube, library books etc.
1. Believing negative, unproductive and self-defeating thoughts. These include thoughts like “I could never … I’m not good enough to … I don’t deserve to … I’m useless at …”
2. Blaming others. It’s true that other people can have a huge affect on what happens to us, and where we are in life. But we give them too much power if we let them set our course, and see ourselves as victims, and act like we’ve no power.
3. Taking ourselves too seriously. It’s important to work hard and to have integrity – but we also have to laugh and enjoy ourselves as well. Also, decide to let things go, and put up with some mistakes. You’re not a perfect person and, the truth is - that’s OK!
4. Being afraid to take some risks or to live close to the edge. To have an interesting life you must leave your comfort zone and say “yes” to some new chances and opportunities. It will broaden your perspective, reduce anxiety, and provide you with new options and possibilities.
5. Being afraid of change. It doesn’t take much effort to stick with what you know. The unknown can seem daunting as we don’t know where that leads! But we grow as individuals and lead a richer life if we learn to accept changes, instead of being scared.

“I’m so hungry,” you growled softly, a network of veins crawling to life beneath your eyes. Your whole body ached with a hunger only blood could satisfy, your fangs piercing lightly into your dry tongue.
You stood in the forest, surrounded by bright green trees, your boots sinking into the rich soil beneath your feet. It smelt of pines and fresh air, but all your mind could do was spin with the urge to feed. Rays of feeble sunlight trickled from the dark clouds that hung low in the grey sky. You tried to be good because you didn’t want to hurt anyone, but you were a newly turned vampire, and animal blood only soothed your cravings slightly. You’d promised everyone you had everything under control, and they’d all bought it. Everyone except-
You heard the whoosh of somebody appearing behind you, and turned to face a cocky looking Kai.
“You can always try the human diet,” he offered. “Running away from me won’t make you any less hungry.”
His lips twitched slightly, forming his familiar & smug smirk. His blue eyes glimmered, his defined cheeks rosy, brown locks smoothed perfectly atop his head. He was stunning, yes, but…
“Kai, you hurt people, and I can’t do that,” you replied firmly.
“Oh don’t play so innocent,” Kai teased. “I know you’re not the perfect girl you pretend to be.”
You felt your heart miss a beat momentarily, and you swallowed the lump in your throat with a little shake of your head.
“Leave me alone, Malachai.”
“But you’re so much fun, princess,” he smiled, licking over his pink lips.
You rolled your eyes and turned away, waiting for Kai to leave.
“Look, I know why you might not trust me,” he started softly, with genuine concern.
Your eyes fluttered closed, while you tried to block out the sound of his voice.
“But I promise you I can help you through this. I won’t tell anyone that you’d been lying to them, (Y/N). Just, please…let me be the good guy for once.”
You took in a deep breath, the veins under your eyes fading momentarily.
“You don’t get to be the good guy, Kai. Because you’re not a good guy,” you hissed under your breath, refusing to look at him.
In a second, you were thrown backwards, your back thudding roughly against the sharp bark of the tree behind you. You yelped out, Kai pinning you firmly in place, his aroma overwhelming you, his eyes dark with anger.
“You know what, you’re right,” he breathed over, his voice low. “I’m not good, but neither are you. And don’t give me any of your bullshit, because I know the girl you are, the one you’re scared to show to anyone else. You’re a vampire now, and vampires kill. And as much as you might deny it, I know your pretty little mouth wants to be engulfed with the flavor of warm blood, and with your emotions heightened, you must be dying to try all the dirty little things you’ve never tried before,” he purred huskily.
Your chest rose heavily, eyes flickering over Kai’s annoyingly perfect features. It was impossible to think straight with his chest pressed so hard into you.
“You’re wrong,” you lied.
“Awh, really?” Kai murmured, his blue eyes drinking you up. “So if I did this,” he said, trailing his slender fingers between your thighs, “you’d feel nothing?”
It was insane how much electricity you could feel through just the whisper of his fingertips, and how you noticed each individual goosebump arising under his touch.
“N-no,” you stammered, with little result.
“And this?” Kai hummed, his hands firm on your waist as he brought his lips gently to your neck. His mouth grazed over your skin, tongue gently swiping over your exposed flesh. Something inside of you stirred, and you involuntarily released a quiet moan.
Kai stopped, squeezing your hips lightly, his lips coming to your earlobe.
“That’s what I thought,” he whispered.
He released you at once, his blue eyes alight with lust. Without a word, he moved to leave you, his point proven. You vamp sped up to Kai, grabbing his wrists from behind, and slamming his body straight into an oak tree before he could react. His back hit the tree trunk hard, but he wasn’t phased at all, the look in his eyes knowing. Your hands trembled slightly, strands of your tangled hair toppling across your eyes. You stared at the malicious bad boy, feeling stupid for the way he made you crumble so easily. You bent forward, touching your forehead to his, eyes locking with his blazing blue ones. You breathed in Kai’s overpowering scent, dark veins crawling across your face as you inhaled. Your heart thrummed loudly, the only thing you could focus on being Kai’s fresh warm blood.
“Do it, (Y/N),” he dared, as if reading your thoughts. Kai raised a wrist to your parched lips, and your fangs sprung back out at once. “You know you want to.”
Without a second thought, you seized Kai’s wrist, bringing it straight up to your hungry mouth. Your fangs sunk deep into his flesh, and the taste of him instantly flooded through your lips. Both your hands came up to pin his arm harder into you, and you groaned in pleasure, your hands trembling from the need for more.
Kai brought his right hand up, and pushed your head gently into the crook of his neck, where he held you lightly. You could feel his cool rings against you as he brushed his fingers through your locks softly, cooing, “that’s right, sweetheart, keep going.”
You nuzzled into him, the taste of his blood like a drug, the hunger inside you somehow only growing, not yet satisfied. Kai’s mouth hung open, and he let out a soft moan, the sight of your fragile form in his arms too much for him. His eyes grew dark with hunger, veins crackling beneath them. You whimpered against Kai’s wrist before releasing him, your eyes black, his blood leaving a red mess all over your mouth. Kai looked over you with adoration, a lopsided smile on his lips.
“Are you hungry?” you asked him when you saw his eyes.
“Not for blood,” he grinned, his tongue flicking over his fangs.
Kai seized you by the waist and flipped you onto the leaf strewn forest floor, so you grabbed his ankles, throwing him down beside you with a laugh. You whooshed onto his chest, straddling his body and bending over his lips to kiss him before he could react. He responded at once, hands flying up to grab your ass, tongue sliding into your mouth and fighting for dominance with yours. Kai sucked the excess blood from your mouth, a growl emanating from his throat as his lips worked with more force. His faint stubble brushed over your skin, and he squeezed your backside roughly as his lips molded perfectly against your own. You could feel Kai’s large bulge growing beneath you, and your hands instantly reached for his belt buckle. You tossed Kai’s pants off, and then literally ripped his shirt from his chest, your mouth peeling from his to dive into his rippled front. You trailed your tongue down across Kai’s chest before leaving sloppy kisses all over him, brushing your fingertips teasingly across his boxer line. Aggravated by your control over him, Kai flipped you onto your back, peeling off your own clothes, his breath heavy as he delved into your breasts. His name toppled softly off your lips, your head rolling back as he squeezed, sucked, and bit at your flesh. His lips attached around your nipple, and your hands went sliding into his hair as you held him there. The knot in your stomach grew tighter, the wetness between your legs increasing with every second. Every little thing he did to you was filled with so much more intensity as a vampire, and it felt good. Kai removed his mouth, leaving little kisses all down your belly and to your underwear. He hooked his teeth around the lace, removing the fabric easily before taking off his own boxers. Your eyes drifted down to his length, your eyes widening, the lump in your throat growing. Kai caught you staring, and did another one of his smug smirk’s.
“Ohhh,” Kai sighed, two of his fingers rubbing circles gently against your clit. “I’ve wanted to fuck you senseless from the moment I laid my eyes on you.”
You trembled slightly, eyes flickering over Kai’s sculpted features, “so do it.”
Kai’s eyes flickered back to your face, and he chuckled with delight. “And I bet you’ve wanted that too,” he purred.
“Please Kai,” you begged with impatience. “Just-”
“Just what, babygirl?”
“Just fuck me,” you pleaded, mouth watering at the sight of him.
Kai smirked, looking pleased, “I’ve broken you, haven’t I? Why haven’t you shown me this side of you before?” he asked seriously.
You closed your eyes, “I-Kai…”
“Tell me,” he whispered.
“I’ve been dead for three weeks now, and your somehow the only one who made me feel alive. I didn’t want to let those darkest parts of me feel for you, but I just…can’t,” your voice cracked at the end. “I need you so much, Malachai Parker.”
He looked you over, his eyes softening with adoration. And then, slowly, he gave you what you wanted. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head as he entered you, his length stretching you wide open. Kai’s hands moved to your hips as he began to mercilessly slam his hips into you over and over again. You cried out in pleasure, a layer of sweat gathering on your forehead.
“You’re-so-” Kai panted, “tight for me.”
Just the sight of him and sound of his voice was enough for you to want to go over the edge. Kai dragged out the next thrust, pushing into you at an excruciatingly slow pace, his mouth hanging open as he groaned your name.
“More,” you begged.
Kai moved one of his hands to your clit, rubbing vigorously as he began to quicken his pace again, finding your spot in no time. Your hands flew to his back, nails dragging across his flesh as you bounced harshly beneath him. Your breathing got heavier, body convulsing as your screams hit a high, your words ragged.
“FUCK,” Kai groaned, his head falling forward as he gave a sloppy final push, his come instantly emptying into you and filling you up to the brim. Your juices mixed with his, your body still shaking. Kai moaned and pulled out, diving into you at once to clean up the mess. His tongue gave little kitten licks to your heat, his head burrowed between your open legs. Kai dipped his tongue gently once into your folds before releasing you, his chest heaving. He flipped over onto his back, his arms sliding under your body and pulling you close into his chest. You curled up against him, arm dipping under his protective hold as you listened to the strum of his heartbeat. Kai mindlessly started playing with your hair again, his eyes always on you.
“You probably think I’m weak for giving into you so easily,” you said after a long silence.
Kai’s eyes crinkled sadly at this. “No, (Y/N), you’re strong, and that’s why I admire you. You spent so long avoiding me because if we ever got even a little close, it would mean that somewhere inside of you, a part of you felt something for a monster like me.”
“What does it mean that my weakness is you?” you asked softly.
“I don’t know,” he said. “What does it mean that a ‘psychopath’s’ weakness is you?”

Schedule times you want to work // I know I can go through an entire day promising myself that I’m going to do something and never doing it. “I’ll start in one more hour…Just five more minutes..Once I’ve cleaned my room, I’ll do it…” If you tell yourself that you want to start your task at 11 AM, you can hold yourself accountable and your plans aren’t so vague.
“Work hard, play hard” // It’s sooo necessary to have time to relax when you’re working hard. If you constantly work, you’re going to get burnt out. Know what makes you really happy and make time for it. Time that is specifically devoted to work or play will make your life more balanced and enjoyable. You’ll be happy to start working.
Set goals and deadlines for the day// Force yourself to finish. Knowing that your must get things done will allow you to actually get them done. If you mindlessly go through your day, it becomes easy to not get anything done. Focus your mind on your goals and not you small, lazy desires.
Ignore perfection // Constant tweaking and stress will never allow you to finish a task. If you hold all your assignments to an unreasonable standard, you won’t get things done in a timely manner. The key to productivity is efficiency. Know that you’re human. Perfection takes huge amounts of time. That time might be better used to finish your other tasks.
Create your to-do lists the day before // Even if you set goals for your day the day of, it’s valuable to have a tangible checklist of your tasks the day before; you can get a head start on them the moment you wake up the next morning. In your spare time, like the time waiting between classes or waiting for your ride, you can work on the things you know you have to do.
Evaluate your progress each week // Once you’ve set your deadlines and goals for each of your days, go through them and ask yourself how effective you were on Saturday or Sunday. Understanding if you met your goals and what might’ve prevented you from meeting them (procrastinating, unexpected nuisances, etc.) will help you to be more productive the next week.
Finish a first draft // Any progress is still progress. Productivity includes getting stuff done before it’s due. Making progress towards your goals will help your overall productivity. For example, if you have a giant paper due in 3 weeks, write your first draft the first week. This will give you ample time to go over and edit your draft to make the final draft easier to execute. If you’re making something from scratch, your progress will take longer.
This is a great example of what I mean when I talk about the symptoms of personality disorders. Lots of people have the traits described in personality disorders. Most people have them at the “adaptive” or “subclinical” levels. Not many people experience these things to the “disordered” or “severely disordered” level described above.
Note - these specific examples are not enough in and of themselves to diagnose a personality disorder; a personality disorder is a collection of many different traits that all must be experienced at the disordered or severely disordered levels.
Theodore Millon, Personality Disorders in Modern Life (second edition), 2004.
aries - saturn in aries is a very challenging placement - saturn is exalted in libra and so falls in aries, which can be difficult when aries is such a force to be reckoned with. you may struggle to chase your ambitions for worry or self-esteem issues, or you could blindly leap after everything you desire without realising the responsibilities of your dreams. you can falter when trying to assert yourself, and you might feel older than your age, unable to let go and just live without repercussions. when you learn to have confidence in yourself and your abilities, the results of your projects will reflect your inner balance.
taurus - in taurus, saturn’s lessons revolve around security. saturn in taurus really struggles to feel comfortable, stable and safe, and they often cling onto things to find a sense of security in life. but material possessions can’t fulfil you ultimately, and that’s a lesson that saturn in taurus needs to learn. they need to go a little deeper and learn to feel secure in themselves before they can find it in the world. hard work and a little bit of luxury will help them to find what they need, but they have to be open to receive it. they can struggle to express their romantic and creative side too, so it’s important to embrace the parts of themselves that they so often leave behind.
gemini - saturn in gemini can really struggle in their early years, and this is because gemini embodies so much of the childhood experience - education, curiosity, thinking and learning, siblings and the hometown. they are prone to falling into negative thought patterns, and may struggle with nervousness and anxiety too. this placement often indicates shyness, especially in early life, but it does ease up as you age so don’t fret. saturn in gemini can really take their time learning a subject, but once they fully understand, they never forget and seem to master the subject effortlessly. they are logical, make great writers and teachers, and often doubt their abilities. they often have a head for business too, but it’s imperative that they learn to communicate clearly and without inner chaos for their many talents to manifest. i would suggest writing out your feelings if you’re struggling with this placement, because it’s easy to feel alone in the world with it and nobody should feel that way.
cancer - saturn in cancer controls their emotions. they often lock them away and may struggle to understand and express their own levels of empathy and emotion. it’s a life lesson for these people to learn to come out of their shell and live for themselves, as they can often suppress their passions and needs for the sake of their family’s. saturn in cancer often clings to others, craving the warmth and security they needed as a child; however, they hate to be dependant or needy, and so there’s this inner push-pull that can easily spiral into self hatred if allowed. it’s important that they look at themselves and their past, come to terms with it and try to learn from it too. if you have saturn in cancer, try to create a soothing home that puts warmth in your heart, as the home environment of these people is very important to them and can help them feel more secure. it’s also worth trying to build up your confidence, as you will feel much better if you have your own back.
leo - saturn in leo often manifests as a strong-willed, deeply ambitious person, who can come across as cold and stubborn, but really just needs recognition for what they do. they want people to admire them, and this need to be recognised often comes from childhood somewhere. ego plays a bit part in the life of leo in saturn, and they can struggle to connect with their true selves - they usually have tons of creative talent but no knowledge of how to unlock it, and so are prone to frustration. these people tend to feel they are inferior to others, and they can sabotage themselves by putting themselves down. they can be jealous too, and they try to protect their delicate selves from others by being cold and aloof. the lessons that saturn in leo need to learn revolve around humility, creativity and love; love for others, sure, but mostly for themselves, because it’s this cold centre that brings all the trouble. you must balance the power you have inside, and if you can, you’ll find true joy in life at last.
virgo - this is a great placement for saturn if you can make the most of it; unfortunately it’s not so great if you can’t. at its worst, saturn in virgo brings compulsive behaviours, control issues, harsh self-criticism and niggling health concerns. however, these modest people are hardworking, able to see the little details that make something perfect, cautious and excellent planners. they just need a little push in the right direction, a self-esteem boost, and to learn to let go. hypochondria can develop in times of stress, as well as anxiety issues in general, but if they can learn to manage their stresses and become more relaxed in day-to-day life, these problems will ease up considerably. control can seem to keep them sane, but in all honesty you’ll never control everything, and if you can’t handle losing it, you’ll never be able to keep it. turn that brilliant mind inwards and look at what’s truly good for you; you’ll know.
libra - saturn is exalted in libra, and so it’s quite a nice placement really; these people are fair and pleasant, and quite charming. this can seem a very natural and even easy placement for saturn, but of course it isn’t without its lessons; saturn in libra often experiences restriction when it comes to relationships. they can struggle to relate to others on a personal level, and may find it very hard to be in a relationship. the relationships they do enter may feel forced or loveless, but they themselves don’t know how to mend these holes. the key lies within, and reflection will definitely help. once you are aware of the patterns you form throughout your life, you can work on changing the ones that aren’t helpful for you, and you can experience more open, romantic and pleasant relationships. it’s important to stabilise yourself and take responsibility for the relationships you aren’t happy with, for this placement to flourish.
scorpio - now this is one of the more turbulent positions for saturn; scorpio is so raw, so emotional and sometimes chaotic, while saturn seeks the tangible, control, results. however, i actually this has the potential to be a really good placement; these people are intuitive, determined and mentally very strong. they are calculating and sometimes quite controlling, in the murky manner of scorpio. the main problem with this placement is that saturn restricts the emotional goldmine that is scorpio. this can lead to all manner of emotional issues, repressed memories, and even holding onto negative energies around them. they can struggle to see their true intentions and often fear rejection and abandonment deeply. they can struggle to open themselves up to another person or be intimate. they must learn to open their eyes and look at themselves honestly, with the same sharpness they look at others, and then focus all that immense energy on healing from whatever is dragging them down. it’s hard and painful, but we all know the strength of this placement.
sagittarius - saturn in sagittarius can seem like a weird match, right? but actually, it fits quite well. this placement brings strong ethics and morals, a real lust for learning, skepticism and strong intuition. however, these people may feel dissatisfied with their education, feeling it did them no good and that they need to teach themselves. they can swing from skeptical to cynical in the blink of an eye, or from intuitive to blindly guessing at life. this placement is surprisingly prone to bouts of depression, as it’s hard to need your freedom but be scared of the consequences of it. they can struggle to open up and trust others, and can sometimes rebel just for the sake of rebelling, rather than because they believe it’s right. the lessons of this placement focus on balancing ethical codes with human needs and wants, structuring your learning so you can make the most of it, and learning to find the wonder in the world. this placement is great for teachers and often leads to your becoming a leader in your chosen field, but you must heal from your issues first.
capricorn - saturn is at home in capricorn, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its own set of challenges like any other saturn placement. issues of control and perfectionism can make achievements difficult, although this is actually a very hard working placement that prides itself on its achievements and the completion of goals. saturn in capricorn often sees things in black and white, feeling that emotions are all awful things that distract from progress, and anything less than perfection is failure. but awareness is a huge part of making strides, and as much as they crave recognition, their inner self needs recognition by the outer self in order to truly flourish. time heals all wounds, and keeping this in mind will help you to heal your own.
aquarius - saturn in aquarius is a natural psychiatrist, a scientist at heart. they can apply themselves fully to anything that peaks their interest, and their hearts are solid gold. but they can struggle to fit in amongst their peers, and their way of living can be unconventional and possibly even distressing to them. it’s important that they learn to balance their own lifestyles with their dreams and morals. these people are wonderful friends, and have fair hearts. as the traditional ruler of aquarius, saturn is surprisingly comfortable here, and if you can be honest with yourself and apply your beautiful minds and hearts to the world around you, i think this is actually a wonderful placement for saturn.
pisces - saturn in pisces can be a very tough placement, as saturn deals with structure and pisces dissolves everything it touches. but this is a sensitive and extremely creative placement for saturn, and if you listen to its lessons, you are likely to become a wise and empathic person, without feeling consumed by negativity. it’s very easy to fall into depression with this placement, because you may feel responsible for others, but if you learn to put your needs first and to step back when you need to, you’ll find this eases up considerably. inner reflection and connecting the mind and body to the soul, will help you on your journey. it’s important to learn to say no and to let out your feelings through some creative pastime.
So I was just thinking what would Aphrodite look like to Nico. Like she wouldn’t be a boy just for him right? That’s not how it works. Would she look like Will but feminine? Not really, so I was thinking of all these scenarios and stuff and Percy and whatever and then it hit me. Aphrodite is the goddess of love and looks like someone you admire right? Someone perfect and beautiful in your own eyes. Well Aphrodite wouldn’t look like Will, Aphrodite would look like Bianca. ‘Cause love isn’t just subject to who you are attracted to. Love can be the care and admiration you feel for those who love you in return and that includes family. Bianca was the perfect, female figure in Nico’s life. Of course Aphrodite would look like her. This train of thought hit me hard, my heart sank and then I teared up a bit. Imagine how hard it must be for Nico to see Aphrodite as Bianca and remind himself that his sisters gone.
I used to watch a lot of anime before, but when I moved away from my friends whom were fellow fans of Japanese animation, I became really bad at taking any initiative to sit down and watch anything new. So my New Years resolution was to simply watch more anime during 2016 (for inspiration and entertainment)! ;D And in order to prove to said friends that I am indeed keeping my promise, as well as to take the opportunity to recommend good shows to others, I will be sharing my progress list and general opinions.
OBS: Some of these shows are not appropriate for an younger audience!! Before viewing, please check out the recommended age restrictions, genre and potential trigger warnings!
END OF YEAR UPDATE: 25 shows in total! Not bad at all considering that I maybe watched 2-3 shows the year before. But I still have a lot of series that I want to see, so don´t be surprised if I make a new post for 2017. ;)
My personal top 3? I would say Death Parade, Re:Zero and Madoka Magica.
Mushishi (S1) - Not a single cliffhanger in the whole show, so it makes for perfect bedtime stories for teens/adults. The english dub was really good and the landscape art is 10/10.
Kino No Tabi/Kino´s Journey (S1) - Do not let the simple and cute style fool you! This show contains murder, cannibalism, suicide and war!! And it asks the hard questions in life!! RUN if you do not want to contemplate the meaning of existence!!
One Punch Man (S1+3OVA) - OK, now I know why this is in 4th place on IMDB´s “Best TV-series” list. The animation is some of the best I have ever seen in an action anime! It is simply stunning to look at and it is fun ride all the way to the out of this world (literally) finale.
Sakurako-san No Ashimoto Ni Wa Shitai Ga Umatteiru/Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation (S1) - Pretty much like an anime version of the TV-show Bones. I love mysteries where you have to follow clues in order to solve a murder so a second season is strongly desired.
Owari No Seraph/Seraph Of The End (S1+S2+10OVA) - Pretty predictable, but the the bloody fight scenes are fabulous. Needs even more angst thou (…she said even though a bunch of children are butchered in the very first episode….). >:3
Death Parade (S1) - And there is all the angst!!! Do not watch if you do not like pain in your soul!! Heart cannot be repaired!! AHRUM!! Excuse me. The show is really well written and the artists really knew how to create the perfect atmosphere to tell this dark story.
Free! (S1+S2+4OVA) - It feels like everyone and their grandmother has seen this show, so of course I fell on the bandwagon. For the first 11 episodes thou I was very neutral to it… But goddammit the first season finale had me sheering, squealing and tearing up!! (Let Rin be happy!!) Sadly only the S2 OVA had me laughing; apart from that episode, the humor was not at all up my alley.
Zankyou No Terror/Terror In Resonance (S1) - I really like the style and the smooth animation in this one. And DANG, THAT ENDING! If you like thrillers that are completely based on reality and science (like Beautiful Bones) then this could be perfect for you.
Wolf’s Rain (S1+4OVA) - I remember trying to watch this when I was like 15, but I never got past episode 3 for some reason. Which is a real shame because I think that I would really, really liked it then. Perfectly angsty and tragic for little wannabe-emo-teen-me. Do you like dark fantasies with pretty people/wolves? Then do not miss out on this one!
Mahon Shoujo Madoka Magica/Puella Magi Madoka Magica (S1+1 movie) - Oh shit. Oh holy shit. I would never have guessed that this show, this thing that looks so darn innocent and cute in design and summary, would have me in so much emotional turmoil (very much like Steven Universe in that way). But seriously; amoungst all of the animes on this list, this is in my opinion the one with the most captivating story-line, plot development and characters (I simply had to watch all 12 episodes in one sitting). Some people hate the ending, but I think it worked really well (even though all the tears could have clouded my judgement). And if you liked the show, then you MUST watch the movie Rebellion! Also: One of the the best English dubs I have ever heard in my life!! UPDATE: I have now seen everything twice… I cry every times I see Homura on screen. (O_Q)
Kuragehime/Princess Jellyfish (S1) - I watched this before when it first came out but I had a hard time remembering anything from it apart from the characters. Glad I gave it a re-watch because it´s super cute and silly; perfect for when you just want to give your feels a break from all the angst and suffering other shows come with (*stares at the one above*). I also highly recommend the live-action movie based on this! :D
Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi/Erased (S1) - This show is both intriguing and stunning! I love how modern animation uses lightning and this show is a good example of that (same goes for Death Parade). Downside: Stress, stress and even more stress!! Please, just let the small children live!!! My heart cannot take this torture!! D,,X But the stress aside, it was all worth it at the end.
Jigoku Shojo/Hell Girl (S1) - My Golb, the young girls in this look exactly like the characters I would draw at 14-16. X,D The animation is just okay, and it takes a long time before we learn anything worthwhile about the main characters. But what made me watch a whole season (26 ep) was because of the interesting stories in each episode. It was fascinating to see how little/much it was required for people to give up their souls for eternal damnation in return for the death of a person they hated.
Steins;Gate (S1+1OVA) - It took me a while to get into the story, but by the half way point, when shit got really intense, I was waaay hooked. I usually do not like stories that involve time-traveling because it makes my head hurt, but this (Like Madoka Magica) was really well written. I have very little to fault the show on ((apart from how the harassment of a trans girl is used for comedy in at least 2 episodes…)) and would recommend!
Love Live! School Idol Project (S1+S2+1 movie) - Decided to watch something really cute with sis again and this is what we ended up with. And oh darn it, it is cute alright! Everything is so sugary sweet and lovely, and good music too that you will hum on for weeks. Apart form the occasional funky looking CGI (which actually looks really good in the movie), the animation is top notch. A simple story about a bunch of girls and their lives and friendships when guys are not in the picture.
Makura No Danshi/Pillow Boys (S1) - Finally met up with my anime loving friends and this was one of the things we saw. The episodes in this are very short, all of which are about different types of guys talking to YOU before you go to sleep. It´s… different to say the least. Who was my favourites? Hmmm… I guess the guy from Ep 2, since I recall him the clearest. He also felt like someone who had known me for a while and I appreciated that. WARNING: Ep 10 did give me some extreme rapist vibes! BAD TOUCH!! (O_O)
Koutetsujou No Kabaneri/Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress (S1) - If you like bloody action of high quality with humans fighting against superhuman enemies then this is most surely something for you. Many parallels can be pulled to Attack on Titian, but I would never call this a rip-off. All the animation is in the A+ class and there is this wonderful colouring/lighting effect they sometimes use for close ups which makes the characters look absolutely stunning. The level of details on the character designs also stuck out to me (A+ there too).
Shokugeki no Soma / Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma (S1+S2+1OVA) - Also known as food porn. I had never heard of this until Dan and Phil mentioned it in a video and when I understood that it was about food I had to check it out. I love shows/stories that are centered around cooking (Hell´s Kitchen, Master Chef, Kitchen Princess, etc) so I really got hooked on this. Not only is the food animated beautifully, but you learn a lot at the same time. And the absurd (dirty) humor is so redicoulus that I cannot help but laugh.
Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu / Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World (S1) - When I first saw posters for this show they never caught my interest. It looked so much like the generic fantasy harem anime that I just ignored it. But then a friend forced me to actually see it and BOY was I wrong. Let me put it this way: Imagine Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni but with a higher budget and set in a fantasy land. So if you enjoy blood, gore and mind games, check this baby out!
Ghost Hunt (S1) - I know that I had seen this anime when it was new, but apparently I never saw the final episodes of the season since I had no idea what was going to happen. But glad that I saw this again! Not the scariest or goriest show out there, but it is fun and entertaining. My favorite part is how all the characters get along even though they have different beliefs and ways of dealing with the unknown.
Psycho-Pass (S1 + S2 + 1 movie) - Everybody were recommending this show to me and I understand why. There is detective work, blood/gore, and some kick-ass action; just right for me. However, I am not into all the tech porn (you know - when the put so much time and focus on weapons and other technology when they open up, charge, fire, etc. Not my thing!), but it was still a good anime. The only downside was that I felt very little when characters died, which was strange since I usually get attached very easily and morn fictional characters on a regular basis.
Mayoiga / The Lost Village (S1) - Oh maaan. I was expecting something along the lines of Battle Royale, but this was nothing but a big disappointment. There was so much potential in the first episodes for this to become the next Another or Corpse Party, but nooo. Lack of death aside, I guess it had it´s creepy moments, but the finale was not worth the wait in my opinion. I was actually so upset by the final twist that I sat down and basically created an alternative version of the story. Same basic structure, characters, feel and pitch, but with a more classic psychological horror plot. I would also have put the focus on other characters over the two basic cardboard cutouts (I vote for Valkana and Nanko!).
Corpse Party: Tortured Souls - Bougyakusareta Tamashii No Jukyou (5OVA) - I had seen this before when it first came out, but since I am still in a Halloween mood I decided to give it a re-watch. Totally one of those shows that I cannot look away from (not only because I need the subs, but you know what I mean). Spooky details all over the place blended with intestines and body horror. I may not be a big fan of the Elfen Lied-wannabe character designs, but I would totally watch it a third time when I once again forget the ending. I was so shocked that all I could do was to stare at the screen while the credits passed by.
Mira Nikki / The Future Diary (S1) - That moment you like the premise and concept of a show, but dislike the main characters. Damn that moment. It could be that the English dub makes the protagonists seem more douchey than what they actually are in the oringal Japanese version, or it´s just that they are both written poorly (IMO). But I like the background characters and there is some genuine tension throughout the show, so I watched it all.
Yuri!!! On ICE (S1) - I had been looking forward to this since the first trailer, so it was really really hard for me to wait until all episodes had aired before I had a marathon. But gah! It was worth it! There are no cliffhangers no, but the show just makes you feel so warm and fluffy that you want to see more right away. It is a sports anime, but the characters and relationships are so well developed that I would say to give it a chance even if sports isn’t for you. You will still fall in love with everybody and you just want them all to win gold and be happy!!
PS: Oh dear brother of mine, if you are reading this, be prepared for an anime night next time we meet. You and Jorge will love this! ;D
Kimi No Na Wa / Your Name (movie) - Hands down one of the best MOVIES I have seen this year. Well made, a story that pulls you in, heart-wrenching and beautiful music. This is totally up there amongst Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and I will definitely be showing this to all my friends, no matter if they are into anime or not.
4 Types of Unhealthy Mother-Daughter Relationships
1. Bosom Buddies: This is where the mother wants to be her daughter’s best friend. The relationship is usually warm and close, and the mother prides herself on always being there to emotionally support and advise her daughter. Communication is open, honest and real – which can start to feel threatening as the daughter gets older and wants to erect appropriate boundaries. In this type of mother-daughter bond, the mothers lives vicariously through her daughter and find it hard to discipline appropriately (as she’s too enmeshed with her daughter’s life).
2. Boss and Subordinate: This is where the mother wants to dominate and control every aspect of her daughter’s life. She’s always giving her opinion, making demands, and requiring her daughter to follow her rules, or live up to the expectations she has set. She’s also rigid, harsh and may lack empathy. Although the daughter may comply in her younger years, she is quietly resentful and will likely rebel – either strongly and loudly, or in a more passive way. She may feel she must be “perfect”, have low self-esteem and fear rejection and judgement by others.
3. Rivals: This is where the mother sees her daughter as a rival or threat so she’s always in competition with her. Thus, instead of seeing each other as completely separate people, and allowing each other to simply be themselves, the mother and daughter are constantly comparing themselves to see which one is thinner, smarter, prettier or more successful in life. This is usually done in a fun-loving way, and the bond they share is understanding and strong. However, it can lead to a feeling of not being seen, valued and accepted as they are – and unconditionally.
4. The Role-Reversal Relationship: This is where the mother expects her daughter to be there to support and bolster her. She has no concern for her daughter’s needs as her focus is ensuring her daughter nurtures her. This is clearly unhealthy as the daughter feels abandoned, and grows up feeling neglected and used. As a child, the daughter’s learned she must sacrifice herself and only think others, and their needs and preferences. This can lead to being a doormat, and to low self-esteem.
request: “Hi! Can you write a Fred Weasley x Ravenclaw!Reader imagine? The reader is a bookworm, and is often found in the library. She and Fred are almost complete opposites. Fred is intrigued by the "different” girl you can say and they start hanging out. Introducing each other to their life, with things the other would never do. Ends with a cute passionate kiss?“ — by @my-unique-mind
a/n: added a little twist to it. hope you don’t mind :-) also, i got carried away with this one so it is quite long 😂
On the course of your stay in Hogwarts, the only conversations you would share with Fred Weasley were just mere hellos and greetings. Whenever the seat beside you wasn’t taken yet in some class, he would ask if it was okay to sit beside you, and you would glance at him before nodding, minding your own business starting then.
Though other than that, the both of you never bothered to approach the other in attempt to get to know them better. It has been always like that for the past years — so for him to suddenly ask you a very important favor, it was quite unbelievable.
It was a Saturday morning that time and you were spending your day inside the library as usual. In front of you was one clear parchment, a book needed for Transfiguration, and a bottle of ink that you had. You were just about to write the first sentence of your essay when someone abruptly sat down across you.
It was Fred, with his red hair and goofy smile. You raised your eyebrow in question and slowly brought your quill down, waiting for the boy before you to say something that would explain why he was here.
"Good day, isn’t it?” he started, his head turning around as if to look at his surroundings. ‘The sun’s not shining too bright, the wind’s pace is just right, and it’s not that cloudy.“
"Is there something I can help you with?” you asked with your eyebrow still raised.
Fred flickered his eyes to you. “I’m glad you asked, Y/N, because there is this one tinsy little problem I’m dealing with and I know you can help me figure it out.” there was mischief in the way he spoke those words, which made you kind of uneasy.
“Oh, is it regarding about that Transfiguration assignment Professor McGonagall gave us 'cause I’m doing it right now —”
“Y/N,” he politely cut you off that made you stop talking, “that’s not it.”
You involuntarily blush. “Then what is it?”
Fred leaned on the table, prompting his elbows and placing his chin on top. “I knew it was a good choice to pick you, Y/N. I had a hard time convincing George that you’re the perfect accomplice —”
“Woah, what?” it was your turn to you cut him off. “You lost me at accomplice.”
“Well, you see,” Fred licked his lips, “we need a book from the restricted section of the library. Of course, no teacher with the right mind would let me or my brother get it, so I thought since you’re always in the library so much, not to mention you’re a Ravenclaw, you would be the one to do it for us.”
“You must be out of your mind.” You scoffed. “What makes you think I’ll do that for you?”
“Because,” Fred trailed, “I’m such a good person and I make other people happy?”
You couldn’t help but snort at his reason.
"Oh, come on, Y/N! I promise, this will the first and last favor I’ll be asking you if you agree to help.“
The two of you stared at each other for what seemed like minutes before you finally broke free and groaned.
"Fine, I’ll do it.”
Fred fist pumped in the air that made Madam Pince to suddenly appear and hiss at him.
“But you need to do something in return. Anything, so that I’ll feel I’m not doing this for free.” you chuckled lightly.
He nodded in understanding. “Okay,” he shrugged, “how about I do a poem? You’re into those kind of stuff, right?”
“Well, yeah …” you blushed again for whatever reason.
“Then it’s settled then. You help us get the book and I’ll do a poem. Deal?” he extended a hand out and you didn’t hesitate to grasp it with your own, shaking it.
You indeed had done what you had to do. After Fred and George talked to you and gave you the title of the book that they needed, you immediately made up an excuse as you ask the head of your house, Professor Flitwick, to sign the slip that allowed you to get the book from the restricted section of the library.
The whole plan seemed too easy, because the teacher didn’t even question you or grew suspicious on why you needed the book. And now, you were patiently waiting inside the cosy atmosphere of the Three Broomsticks, your eyes glued on the door, ready to finalize your deal with the Weasley twins.
Though Fred was the only one who came, even panting as he sits down beside you. You couldn’t help but glance at him oddly but still a smile was playing on your lips.
“Sorry,” he sighed while he takes off his coat and hangs it on the chair he was sitting on, “had to get away from George. I didn’t want him to come.”
“Why?” you slowly brought out the book from your bag.
Fred smirked at you, “Because I wouldn’t want him hearing my poem, obviously. He wouldn’t let it go if he heard it, will keep on teasing me for an eternity if he did.” he murmured mostly to himself.
You almost forgotten about the poem and with the mention of it, you raised your eyebrows in curiosity. “Well, now that you mentioned it, read it to me.”
For the first time, you saw his cheeks turn into a shade of pink as he softly stutters. “Uh, r-right now?” he cleared his throat.
“Not necessarily, but if you want to have this book —”
“Okay,” he pouted, “I get it, I get it. Just let me …” he rummaged through his bag and got a notepad with written notes on it, though before you could take a peak, he blocked it away from your view with his hand. “Hey! I’m going to read it to you anyway so why bother?”
“I’m just curious, jeez.” You chuckled. “You know, I’m very interested in what you have prepared. It’s always been in my bucket list to get you to do something completely out of your character.”
“Oh, I’m sure it is.” he snorted with a grin. “Uh, so, before I begin, I’m just gonna ask you not to laugh, okay? I admit it’s not my best work but … it’s what I wanted the poem to be about.” the color red was creeping on his cheeks again.
You smiled. “I promise.”
He dramatically cleared his throat, turning sideways so he was completely facing you.
“The way she speaks can lure me to sleep the way she smiles can change my cold feet the way she reads can send thousands of thoughts like why only now did I notice she smelled like apricots?”
He stops momentarily to look at you and sees you laughing silently which draws him to continue.
“I can never really explain why I started feeling so differently when she has always been there, always been pretty. and maybe that is why I decided to make a plan something that will give my chance a hand.
It amuses me how she doesn’t notice like for the first time, she didn’t know how to focus but how can she not, that’s not her flaw After all, she is a Ravenclaw.”
Your eyes widened at that mere line and you could hear Fred taking a gulp before carrying on like nothing happened.
“So this time, as I read this poem to you please tell me you understand it like you always do keep in mind that out of all the pranks I’ve done, all of the shows you rejecting me at this very moment terrifies me the most.”
Fred closed the notepad and immediately turned away from you, folding his hands on the table. “Done.” he stated with his lips pursed together, not bringing himself to see your reaction after just confessing that he indeed fancied you.
“That was … beautiful. You might actually beat Edgar Allan Poe if you pursued writing.” you tried to catch his eye but he wouldn’t budge. “Fred, please do look at me.”
“No.” he answered immediately. “I-I had some time thinking about this and now that I’ve done it, I think I regretted doing it.” he spoke very fast.
It seemed cruel, but you enjoyed seeing him all frantic and shy — because in your defense, it wasn’t everyday you would see Fred Weasley behaving this way. He was mostly so confident with his brother, the complete opposite of what he was showing you right now, and it made you reach out and place a hand over his.
“Would it make you feel better if I told you I felt the same way?” You couldn’t help but tease, causing him to finally look at you.
“Not funny, Y/N. You’re completely messing with my emotions and do you know how many times I’ve thought about telling you about this and now you’re —”
You rolled your eyes, leaning in and pressing your lips onto his just to make him shut up, and also maybe because you’ve been meaning to do it for a long time now. It definitely did the trick though because Fred caught on and began to kiss you back, his hand soon resting on your cheek while his other one still intertwined with yours. When the both of you let go, Fred’s eyes looked like they were twinkling from delight.
“What is it?” you asked, a goofy smile plastered on your mouth as well.
“Nothing, I just — my brother and I didn’t really need the book, it was the plan I’ve been talking about in my poem, to give my chance a hand.” he repeated.
“Wow.” you playfully slapped his arm with the borrowed book. “So meaning to say, all my efforts were put into nothing?”
“Well, it did make you a rebel even a little bit, didn’t it?” he grinned. “And it did help this thing going on between us to evolve as well.”
You pulled on your best confused face. “What thing?”
“Hardy har har.” he sarcastically laughed and pulled you in for another passionate kiss, your laugh audible in between as you place your arm around his neck.
Before the two of you could even decided to finally break free — realizing that you were still inside the Three Broomsticks — George Weasley came waltzing inside the pub and did a very loud gasp, enough to catch the attention of the other students to him.
“I can’t believe it. It actually worked!”
Fred groaned and turned to his brother who was now grinning like mad. “Shut up and go away, George.”
But George was already fist bumping him, and despite Fred getting annoyed, he couldn’t help but put on a cocky and bragging grin on his face as he did so because finally, he got the girl.
Right. So. Might be mildly addicted to your 'Gods and Monsters' series. Definitely need an intervention, but I'll prolly ignore that anyway, so... anyway, can you do something with Zeus and Hera? I've always thought it was massively whack that the goddess of fidelity was with --according to Greek mythos--one of the biggest adulterers on Olympus. Definitely smelling a bit of an abusive relationship there, if you catch my drift... okay byeeeee
Hera, the young goddess of marriage and family, is only
unfaithful to her husband once.
She seduces Zeus first, right as the war ends and they’re all
pain and ash and thrumming with the excitement of victory. She smiles just so
and touches his bloody chest, her hand pale against the dark copper of his skin
and, and when he looks at her his eyes spark with the lightning he so easily
commands. She is named his wife that very night, her body littered with bruises
from his rough, eager hands, and she tells herself the bile at the back of her
throat tastes like victory.
She is queen of the gods. This is what she wants.
They’ve all claimed their domains and gone their separate ways,
Demeter to the earth, Hades to the underworld, and Hestia to Olympus where they
plan to build their palace. But Poseidon still lingers. “Don’t you have an ocean
to conquer?” she asks.
He looks at her, then behind her to where Zeus is busy
sketching plans for Olympus. “You don’t have to do this,” he says softly, “you –
you can come with me if you want. Or I’m sure Hades would take you.”
Hera has no time for Poseidon and his soft heart. “I will
only belong to the best,” she says, tossing her head so her crown of curls fall
over her shoulder. “You should go. You have work to do.”
“There are more important things than power,” he says
uncomfortably, shifting from foot to foot.
“No,” she says, “there aren’t.”
Hera would not mind Zeus’s women so much if they were not
constantly giving him children, something she has been unable to do.
She is an obedient wife. She does not turn her powers
against him, and she’s tolerant of his mortals at first, but the longer she is
empty of child the less patience she has. How can she be the goddess of family
without one of her own?
Her spite gets in her way, and she hurls every kind of
obstacle and curse she can at the woman her husband lies with. At first he is
angry with her, and bruises litter her throat and wrists. Then, as her wrath
and powers grow, he is afraid of her. He watches her warily, sneaking to the
mortal realm when before he wouldn’t even try to hide it. He submits when she
pins him to the bed and rides him hard, desperate for a child of his, desperate
to fulfill the perfect image of wife and mother she’s built for herself.
No matter her magic, no matter how many times they lie together,
Hera does not get with child.
She goes to Hestia, and her sister presses a hand to her
stomach and purses her lips and says, “Must it be his child?”
Hera stares. She’s the goddess of marriage and family. She
is not capable of infidelity. “I – I can’t.”
“Just once,” Hestia says, “the problem is not with you, nor
with him, clearly. Only the combination of you both. Lie with any other man,
and you will have your child.”
So Hera, just once, puts on a disguise and goes to the
mortal realm. She finds a man with skin darker than Zeus’s, a rich warm brown
that matches his soft eyes. She lies with him, and it hurts. He is kind and
patient and kisses the edge of her jaw, her shoulders, her navel. But to be
unfaithful grates against her very nature as a goddess, and every moment is
agony. He finishes, his mouth whispering kind things against her own, and she
leaves as soon as she can.
It works. She becomes round with child, and is happier than
she’s been in a long time. She does not mind Zeus’s mortals, and he even
becomes kinder while the baby grows inside of her. His hands become softer, and
he spends less time away from Olympus.
The baby is born, and Zeus is furious.
The child is too dark to be his, and he tears it from Hera’s
hands while she lies exhausted from the birth. “What do you care?” she cries,
struggling to stand, “You have dozens of children. What does it matter if I
He holds the baby in one hand and grabs her jaw with the
other, pulling her to her knees. “You are my wife,” he hisses, “the goddess of marriage
and family. You will have my child, or no child at all.”
He throws the baby from Mount Olympus. Hera screams, pushing
herself away from him and attempting to jump after it. Zeus catches her around
the waist, and with a crackle of power and roar of rage, he sends a lightning
bolt after the baby.
The child may have survived the fall, but not the lightning.
“NO!” Hera screeches, clawing at his arm as she struggles to
escape his grasp. Normally she’s not this helpless against him, but delivering
her baby has left her weaker than she’s ever been before.
He presses the flat of his hand against her swollen womb,
adding pressure until she cries out in pain and tries to squirm away from him. “My
child,” he repeats, voice low and terrible, “or no child at all.”
He lets her go, and she collapses, grasping out a hand over
the edge of Olympus. But the blood between her thighs is still wet, and she can’t
find the energy to stand. She wonders if she’ll have to crawl down the mountain
to retrieve her baby’s corpse.
“Sister!” Soft hands grab her shoulder and gently roll her
onto her back. Hestia’s face fills her vision, and Hera has never seen the
older goddess of hearth and fire look so cold. “I’ll kill him,” she says, hands
hovering over Hera like she’s not sure where to begin. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t
think this would happen, I didn’t think he would – I didn’t think.”
Hera curls on her side until she can place her head in her
sister’s lap. She’s not sobbing anymore, she’s never been one to fall into
hysterics, but she can’t stop crying, a steady stream of tears dripping
silently down her face. Hestia runs trembling hands through her hair. “Don’t,” she
whispers, “I did this, this is my fault. I – I should have known better.”
Hestia’s hand cup her face, leaning over so she can look her
in the eye. “This is not your fault.”
Her sister stands and picks her up in her arms. Hera tries
to tell her to put her down, that Zeus will be angry if she leaves, that she
did this to herself. But she falls unconscious before she can get any of it
Hera awakens someplace soft and warm. She opens her eyes,
and she’s inside Hades’s palace. Her confusion lasts only until her memories
come rushing back, and then she has to bite her lip until it bleeds to stop
herself from crying out.
“Hestia brought you here. She’s returned to Olympus to cover
for you both. Do not worry – Zeus doesn’t know where you are.” She turns her
head, and sees the goddess of magic at her side. Hecate smiles, “I have mended
you, do not worry. All is well.”
All is not well.
That statement is so far from true, and her instant urge is to crush Hecate to
dust for the audacity. Before she can make up her mind one way or the other,
there’s a soft knock on the door. It opens to reveal her elder brother. “I have
something that belongs to you,” he says, and Here focuses on the bundle in the
crook of his elbow.
Her baby’s corpse. She’s relieved someone thought to get it.
Her heart feels like lead, and all the control she’d had over her emotions is
gone instantly. She hopes they’ll leave her alone to hold the body of her child
Hades gingerly sits on the edge of the bed, and Hecate rises
to help Hera prop herself up so she’s at least sitting. “He’s a strong little
thing,” Hades says, and Hera doesn’t understand.
Then a warm, wriggling baby is placed in her arms. He’s got
great big eyes and his mouth splits into a toothless grin when he sees her. “He’s
alive,” she says numbly.
“Not without sacrifice,” Hecate says softly, and reaches
over to undo the blanket he’s swaddled in.
Her son has no legs below his knees.
“Zeus’s lightning bolt didn’t kill him, but we cannot return
what was lost,” Hades says, pained. “When he’s older, maybe we can do
something, give him something in place of legs. But for now, there’s nothing I
The king of the underworld is the most powerful god after
her husband. Hera knows that, even if Zeus doesn’t. If Hades can’t do anything about
her son’s legs, then no can. But he’s alive, Zeus didn’t manage to kill him,
and Hera finds herself so grateful that she’s holding a smiling, living child
that she can’t be anything but relieved. Her son is alive, and happy. He doesn’t
“I can’t bring him back to Olympus,” she looks up at them, “Can
you find someone to raise him? Someone you trust?”
She doesn’t trust anyone, so it can’t be her choosing.
“You’re going back
to him?” Hecate demands, “Hestia said – but I thought for sure – you don’t have
to! Don’t go back to him!”
“I must,” she holds her son to her chest, and he reaches out
with chubby hands to tug at her hair. “I am the goddess of marriage, and he is
She looks up at her brother, and he raises an eyebrow. He
would protect her, he would put himself in between her and Zeus’s wrath if she
asked him to. But she won’t, and she thinks he knows it. She says, “I am Hera
of the Heights, of Argos, of the Mound. I am the cow eyed, white armed goddess
of marriage and of family. I am Hera, queen of the gods.” She looks down at her
son, and her heart clenches, because for now a title that cannot be afforded to
her is that of mother. “I will not abandon my dominion, nor my husband. I will
return to Mount Olympus.”
“But you don’t love him,” Hecate says helplessly.
Hera stares, baffled that anyone could think her marriage had
anything to do with love. “Of course not. But this isn’t about love. It’s about
The goddess of magic swallows, then says, “I will raise him.”
Even Hades is surprised by that. “Hecate?”
“I will raise him,” she repeats, “He will stay with me, safe
in the underworld where Zeus cannot find him, until he’s old enough and strong
enough to protect himself.”
“Thank you,” Hera says, and lowers her head enough to kiss
the top of her son’s head. “Tell him that I’m the one that threw him from
Olympus.” When she looks up, Hades is resigned while Hecate looks on in horror.
“Tell him, tell everyone. I gave birth to a hideous son, and I threw him from
Olympus. His legs were crushed in the fall. I did this. Zeus tried to stop me,
but could not.”
“Why?” Hecate asks.
Hera smiles down at her son, her heart full with a helpless
sort of love. “So that when he ventures from the safety of the underworld, Zeus
will have no reason to hurt him. So that when he comes to Olympus, Zeus will be
unable to hurt him without explaining
he was the one that tried to kill him in the first place.” She runs the back of
her finger down his cheek, and he grabs it, his little fist holding onto her. “Blame
me, and he will be safe.”
Hecate looks like she wants to argue. Hades puts a hand on her
shoulder and asks Hera, “What’s his name?”
Her son smiles, and tugs at her hand, the beginnings of a
giggle gurgling in his throat.
“His name is Hephaestus.”
When she returns, she no longer has any patience for Zeus’s
mortals. When before she had only inconvenienced them, now she’s not playing
any games. Those that do not die end up wishing they had, and she’s especially
vindictive to any mortal carrying her husband’s child.
She sits on her throne, waiting, a smirk curled around the
corner of her lips.
Zeus barges in and charges towards her. He’s so angry smoke
is rising off his skin. “You,” he hisses, “this is your doing.”
“Whatever do you mean?” she asks, unflinching when he slams
his hands on either side of her head, crushing the back of her throne with the
force of it.
“She and the children are dead,” he snarls, “my children are dead! I know this is
your doing, it reeks of your handiwork.”
Hera slides forward to the edge of her throne, their faces
nearly touching, and spreads her legs. He flexes his hands, because even at his
most furious he still wants her. She is his wife and his queen. She banishes
her clothing so she’s spread out before him, hair piled high and jewelry
glinting around her neck. “What are you going to do about it?”
He kisses her hard enough to bruise, and Hera crosses her
legs around his back, urging him closer. “Why are you doing this?” he hisses,
mouthing at her neck, because he hates her even as he loves her, hates her
because he loves her, and loves her because he hates her.
She waits until he’s inside her to lick the shell of his ear
and whisper, “My child, or no child at all, husband.”
When he breaks her skin with his teeth, she only laughs.
