Ok i'm not too sure what that other user meant by assuming all people not in stem fields use items that act as pollutants( I know a lot of STEM folks who do) but as a Woman in a STEM course i care deeply that the world showed it cares about the STEM. Know how STEM gets increased funding? Public increased interest. STEM needs the care of people not in STEM. Plus a STEM career is no better than any other, society works by using people with different skills. Excuse any lack of cohesion, I had exams

I agree with you on every point.

I care about science and making sure we make educated decisions on things like the environment. But, when it comes to high level science and technology a lot of it goes over my head. I’d be a terrible scientist even though I respect those in the field.

We can’t all be in STEM. Who would build the cars they come to work in? Stock the shelves where they shop? Build all the innovations they come up with?

We need all kinds and all kinds can support and believe in science.

why do you antis harrass amy so much ? what has she done ? just fck off .. just cause she has different opinions from you guys doesnt mean yall have to say sht

She’s literally created half a dozen different deliberately high profile websites in order to harass numerous people around Louis and Louis himself.

http://thelarrative.tumblr.com/tagged/lesbianslovelouis

She seeks to make her abuse high profile, she has paid money to make sure that they hit google results, she spoke to Harvey Levin on TMZ in a method she claimed was “taking one for the team” by letting the world know all about her harassment of Briana and her family. You all deserve to be called out. If it makes you feel shitty for everyone else who isn’t in your bubble to talk about how embarrassing and ridiculous you all are, good. She’s in her 40s. She’s not a child. She claims to believe a baby is being faked yet is profiting from it and from you using ads or promo on most of those websites. You all deserve to be called out.

You’re bullies and you’re all old enough to know that.

In fact, it is always because of one person that all changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person.” — Buckminister Fuller

"The Lost City of Z" Director James Gray
Writer/Director James Gray ("The Immigrant," "We Own the Night") talks about his sixth and most ambitious feature "The Lost City of Z."

I just got pretty moved by James Gray’s thoughts in this podcast. Toward the end (final 10 min or so), he talks about how important it is to make work that is very personal –– not necessarily autobiographical, but very personal and full of emotional investment. He then goes on to talk about this sentiment in relation to criticism. (It appears he’s one of the few directors that reads reviews of his own movies.) I’ve always been one to shrug off negative criticism, especially if it comes from people whose work I don’t regard too highly, but we all know that criticism from people we have esteem for can be excruciating, and I’ve tended to think that those painful feelings are entirely negative. James Gray has a different opinion: “The world is a beautiful and terrible place, and the more that we can embrace that in the work, the more we make it…an expression of our state of soul…[We] make ourselves vulnerable, so when people say ‘Your movie is shit,’ it hurts us. And it’s good that it hurts us, because if it hurts us, it means that we put a lot of ourselves into it.”

im so excited to see how language develops over the next few decades. cause the world’s so interconnected now, you can chat with someone halfway across the globe as easily as you can talk to your neighbor. previously even countries that spoke the same language developed slang and idioms and cultural meaning differently, as an english speaker, take america, england, and australia. sure things were easier than when all we had were boats and letters, but the technology we have now makes it instantaneous in a new way. and with the ability to communicate across previous cultural boundaries this way, i think language will change to reflect that. like new international slang of a sort

and with all the changes to the methods we use to communicate, world languages are moving in an interesting direction imo

how can i stop being so self-conscious about my body? it's not even things i'm able to change like my weight or acne. i feel stuck with an imperfect body that i'll never feel confident in.

It is a process and you just need to take it one step at a time. Every time you catch yourself thinking or saying something bad about yourself force yourself to say two good things. Get in this habit and keep with it. If you are feeling extra bad one day- put on your favorite outfit that makes you feel best. We are all different and that is what makes the world so wonderful and interesting, learn to love what makes you different and what makes you you. Realize that you are your biggest critic, most people wouldn’t even notice the things you don’t like about yourself. Decide right now that you are going to work towards self love and you are going to work on positive body talk. You’ve got this love!

I think my mom had a talk with my dad about his tendency to ignore things us kids are proud of, and how we need positive feedback, because his behavior over my doll customizing has taken a complete 180. From being very disinterested and thinking theyre weird, to asking to see and even complimenting (!!!) my most recent works. Like he’s shown genuine interest and complimented me on my attention to detail and all the hard work I’m putting in and it’s just so so nice. It’s a small thing but it makes a world of difference to know that my parents are proud of me for my artistic pursuits and the hard work I’m putting into my hobbies.

i just.. . can’t get over sign of the times. there is so much feeling in it - hope, desperation, strength, vulnerability, pain, love, bravery - and all of it is so palpable, i feel like i can taste it in the air while the song’s playing. he pulls you in at the very first note and tangles you into his soul with every note after that. the energy in his voice just. it washes over you, wave after wave, like an ocean of electricity and emotion.

You know what? I'm just gonna say it.

From the bottom of my heart I think it’s absolute bullshit how Black Hair Stylists and those who specialize in Black Hair specifically have to go to Beautician School. That you cannot open up a Black Hair Salon w/o the Hair Specialists having degrees from a Beautician School.

“WHY?” You ask. Because beauty schools truly don’t teach you jack shit about Black Culture, Black Hair Salon Etiquette, the different types of/most common types of Black Hair…. oh yeah also! How to do Black Hair. Unless your facilities are going to focus on doing ALL hair types it is useless if not bullshit to force people to learn what they won’t be using heavily.

They struggle to do relaxed hair at Beauty School salons WHAT in the world would make them good at natural hair. YOU KNOW WHAT! Let me calm down before I start talking about how 60% of professional makeup artists don’t know how to do a dark skinned persons makeup.

End of rant.

So lemme tell y'all a story:

I was in 10th grade honours English. I loved my teacher - she was super cool, but didn’t take any shit from anyone. During our time with her, she was going through a rough divorce.

Our teacher had developed this system: if we were good, she’d add “time” to our class, with each “time” being worth ten seconds, so we had to work hard. That meaning, she would give us a free period after we’d built up the exact time that a period extended to be. It was an earned privilege, and we always did our best to try and obtain it. Hell, playing puzzle games and reading was way more fun than a test or worksheet!

We were reading Animal Farm, a book my mom had given to me when I was ten bc she knew I loved to read and enjoyed anything that was thought-provoking. I’d read it then, and again later in my parochial middle school. Living in a big city, public schools aren’t well-funded, and I was lucky to have all my close family scrape together cash for a good education. Needless to say, I was rather familiar with the book.

Now back to the system! Our teacher had implemented a rule that every morning (she taught my first period class) we wood stand up and recite the commandments of animalism. We’d all try our hardest to do it perfectly, lest “time” be taken off our class. But one morning, she was… cold.

My classmates who’d recited before me were all told to sit down and stop reciting, because they were “wrong.” Knowing that, I was confused, as was everyone else. Yet, we all kept trying the same thing. She let the first few people finish. Then, she let people get partially through before she’d utter, “wrong” or something of the sort and deduct our hard-earned time.

It finally got to me; it was my turn. I stood up and started, and was immediately shut down by her. I was frustrated, to say the least. I replied after a second and told her that I was, indeed, right. She muttered for me to sit down. I refused, and by now she’d taken off twenty seconds. Everyone groaned, but I continued to disobey. Eventually, my classmates started telling me to just stop and it turned into yelling at me once I’d lost our hard-earned twenty minutes (meaning we had been halfway to a free period) as I continued to argue. Once we were in the negatives, people were literally yelling obscenities at me. They even yelled at her, blaming her divorce and period. Gross behaivour, mind you.

I didn’t stop.

The teacher said that she was going to call security and have me removed. I replied that it was a-okay with me to do so. I promptly walk out of the room and she followed up by telling me to wait in the hallway. I’d intended to walk to the office myself, but obliged figuring it was no matter to me.

I was in the hallway for about a minute before she rushed out and gently grabbed me by the shoulders. I was rightly confused. She gasped, and stammered out that she had never imagined it would happen. Why was she suddenly not being so ruthless? Why was she flabbergasted? Well, apparently what she’d “wanted” was for us to all fail. That it was a lesson, and she’d have given back the “time” she had removed. It was all about “knowing” what was coming, and how fascism meant that the rules could change at any time, without your knowledge and consent, but you could still be punished for it. She told me that she’d called security, and told them if they saw me in the hall during that call, to excuse me. Nobody had done that before. Apparently, throughout her decades of teaching, not one student had done that. They had all caved and sat down eventually.

You can be that person. In something that matters to us all. It’s not fun, but when has fighting for what’s right ever been easy?

things i love about my hero academia

(not all of them because then this would turn into a 500 page journal that could be published and sold and no one would buy it because no one is as much of a nerd as i am)

  • our main protagonist is not a traditionally masculine hero. he’s small, he’s weak, he’s a crybaby, he’s sensitive. especially in the shounen genre, this is a pretty rare thing to see, and even as Izuku grows as a person and becomes more confident in himself, he’s still shy and anxious.
  • he’s also a fanboy!! and not in a bad way!! it’s his fanboy nature that allows him to express himself and show how smart, intuitive, and observant he is
  • the character who does get all the traditionally masculine traits is the character everyone in the main cast acknowledges is a total asshole who mercilessly bullied and abused his classmate/childhood playmate
  • it’s also very clearly seen that Izuku has been conditioned (unintentionally) to fear Bakugou because of all of that physical and emotional abuse. just because he’s a hero in training and he’s learning and growing and becoming more confident doesn’t erase all of those years of bullying
  • it’s also acknowledged that they are children and still have room to grow. Bakugou is an asshole, but he’s not totally villainized for his behavior and is given the chance to change and become a better person because he’s only sixteen years old and still has time to change
  • and he does!! he makes an effort to change and try to adjust his behavior to make a more positive impact (even if it is a slow and arduous process, we do see him make great strides throughout the manga)
  • it would have been really easy to just throw Bakugou under the bus and make him a villain, but instead we get to see his growth as a person as he matures and enters the world of adulthood
  • All Might is the no. 1 hero, the Symbol of Peace, the man everyone thinks is invincible, and he has a chronic condition. he’s missing his stomach, he’s had multiple surgeries, he spits up blood, he literally looks like a skeleton, guys. but even after the reveal, people still admire and look up to him as an idol because he’s still All Might and he still protected and saved a lot of lives and was still a hero
  • All Might’s relationship with Izuku just in general. seriously, i could make an entirely different list just based on their relationship and 95% of the fandom has already talked about them, so i won’t gush about their relationship too much here
  • the fact that most of the adults take responsibility when they fuck up. the police force realize they’ve relied too heavily on heroes, specifically All Might, and they make an effort to change that so they can help people. the teachers at UA recognize that they’ve neglected students who need psychological help. Izuku’s mom acknowledges that she should have encouraged his dream in spite of his quirklessness. most stories, even in the west, don’t have nearly as much adult responsibility as this series does
  • the elusive living anime mom
  • okay but seriously, Inko is quite possibly one of the best fictional moms i’ve seen in a long time. she’s loving and encouraging and she tries her hardest, but she’s not perfect. she’s a single mom caring for her son, who wants to go into this incredibly dangerous profession. and when he gets hurt enough times, when her limit is finally met, she puts her foot down and says “no. i love you, but i can’t let you keep getting hurt like this.” like any reasonable parent would. and the only way she relents is when she sees how much Toshinori wants to teach him and nurture him and encourage him and see his dream recognized and she sees how badly Izuku wants to continue down this path, even if it’s under her terms.
  • this series seriously tackles a lot of topics that you wouldn’t expect it to. you know you’re gonna get the usual topics like what makes a hero, what makes a villain, etc. but, it also goes over other subjects like bullying, parental abuse, discrimination, grief, inferiority complexes, how easy it is to create a monster, redemption. this is a manga about teenagers learning to be super heroes, how did it turn out like this
  • it would have been so easy to sexualize any of the girls. this manga, in the hands of a lesser author, would have featured a lot of fan service shots of the girls. Momo especially, considering she wears a very revealing outfit. and yet, none of them are sexualized?? in any way shape or form??? yeah, we see Momo shirtless a lot and some girls wear skin tight outfits. but, you know who else has skin tight outfits and revealing hero costumes? the boys. and when we do see a shirtless girl or boy, it’s not framed in a way where we’re meant to be objectifying their body. there’s a reason why it happened and we move on. it’s so refreshing.
  • (there are only two fan service female characters. one uses her sexuality to get free shit and the other is meant to make you uncomfortable. take it what you will)
  • we get a lot of unique designs for each of the characters. there are no same faces. each character has a unique quirk and a design that belongs to them. they aren’t interchangeable with one another. Izuku looks like Izuku. All Might looks like All Might. they all look unique with different shapes and sizes
  • (admittedly the manga still kind of falls under the trap of the boys get to have weird, strange designs and the girls all kind of look cute, but it’s not nearly as bad as some other shows. and honestly, if that’s my only complaint, that says a lot)
  • fighting doesn’t solve everything! there’s a really incredible few chapters in the manga dedicated to acknowledging that Izuku and Bakugou seriously need to talk to each other about what Bakugou did to him. they’re both incredible people in their own right and they can learn a lot from each other, but only if they stop fighting and actually communicate with each other. one of the chapters is literally titled “a meaningless fight”. because it is meaningless. it’s not going to solve their problems, fix past mistakes, or make them feel better. it’s a fight to get aggression out because Bakugou doesn’t know any other way to deal with his emotions and trauma.
  • kindness is rewarded!!! cruelty is not!!! i’m really sick and tired of TV shows and movies trying to sell this pessimistic outlook that everything sucks and that gives us the right to be assholes to each other just because it’s edgy. My Hero Academia is such a positive manga and it brings me so much joy and happiness and it sends such a wonderful message of anyone can be a hero if you have a good heart and that kindness will be rewarded, even if it takes a really long time.

i love this manga so much and it’s given me so much light and happiness in my life and if that makes me weird because it’s anime, then fine. whatever. i don’t care. i’ll love it for as long as i can, dammit.

part 4 of taekook photographer/model AU: jungkook’s website update + couple interview.

-

Q: just recently, there is a new category on jungkook’s website that is called ‘dear jk’. can you tell us more about it?

V: i added it! i took all the photos that are posted on that category by myself. isn’t jungkook handsome? my face is all over his website, so i thought, why don’t jungkook’s too?
JK: of course your face would be all over my website. you are the model since the start, taehyung.
V: alright, i’ll admit that i just want to spread the love. i am you number one fan after all.
JK: that reminds me, my senior in the photographer community told me that my blog is slowly becoming a taehyung fansite instead of a photography blog. i might as well be one, actually. i am his number one fan after all.
V: people will get sick of me if they only see my face all the time though!
JK: no way, tae. joke aside, i started my blog with posting photos of scenery and taehyung anyway, and have been consistently doing so. therefore, i believe my blog has stayed the same since the beginning until now. well, aside from the addition of dear jk and vlogs.

Q: the two of you have been working together a lot for recent photoshoots.

JK: that is true. i used to focus solely on landscape and panorama, but my senior told me to expand my knowledge and skills by also trying other genres, so i decided to take up offers from fashion magazines too. it has been an interesting experience. i’m also interested in aerial photography, i would like to try it one day.

Q: since both of you are currently the rising youths in your respective fields, there must also be people who are trying to bring you down. how do you deal with such challenge?

V: i want to be cool and say that i don’t care, but the person behind v is after all, just an ordinary human namely kim taehyung. i do feel down and scared, but i am also really lucky because i have jungkook by my side. whenever i start to listen to strangers’ voices, jungkook would comfort me and tell me that everything is going to be alright.
JK: what people say and think about us are beyond our control. the truth is, however, it’s he and i that know about ourselves the best, so i always tell myself to just work harder for the sake of our dreams.
V: jungkook has grown to be so much stronger and more mature over the years. sometimes i can’t believe that he is the same kid that was so unsure about his dream before, but i’m glad that he is the way he is now.
JK: and taehyung is actually much more sensitive than he appears to be. he thinks a lot when he is alone. we do have ups and downs, but we also have deep faith in each other, and that makes us stronger.

Q: do you have any goals for the future?

JK: i want to travel around the world and takes lots of wonderful photographs with taehyung. it will be really fun to capture all the differences of each culture and scenery of one city and another.
V: me too! we have had this goal since the beginning, and i can’t wait until the day we can finally turn it into reality.

Stop telling me to make friends with Trump supporters. Stop telling me that this is the equivalent of surrounding myself with differing points of view.

I have friends who are black, Muslim, transgender, gay, first or second generation immigrants, sexual assault survivors and more.

They are my friends. I love them with all my heart. I assure you I am surrounded by differing points of view.

Stop telling me that I need to spend time with people who  actively voted to make this world less welcoming, less safe and indeed hateful towards my friends.

Just stop.

The world right now is NOT divided by “politics.” This is a ridiculously ignorant and narrow minded view of current affairs.  The world right now is divided between those who give a shit about people who are not just like them, and those who do not.

I do not have time in my days for the latter.

Trump supporters have actively hurt my friends. Trump supporters are actively causing them suffering. I do not disagree with Trump supporters on “policy” or “partisan” issues. I disagree with Trump supporters on whether my friends are worthy human beings. I disagree with Trump supporters on whether my friends should be second class citizens. I disagree with Trump supporters about whether this world and this country belong equally to my friends as it does to them.

Stop telling me to make friends with Trump supporters.

They are no friends of mine.

on draco malfoy's patronus being a thestral

I AM HERE TO ANSWER YOUR CALLS thestral may seem like a badass / very strange choice of a patronus for draco but I am here to explain WHY I think it should be draco’s patronus!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts / have people elaborate on my thoughts so feel free to!

First off, I feel like a lot of people brush off the idea of him having a thestral patronus because heck, why should draco malfoy of all people have a mythical creature? But that’s one of the reasons why i love it. We all know that draco would absolutely LOVE having a mythical patronus ( you know, being special ) but I stand strongly behind the idea that the ONE mythical patronus he would have never wanted is a thestral.

A patronus is suppose to be a representation of yourself, and why the hell would he like it if he had patronus that reminds him of the war? of him being a death eater? of what he had to do and what it ended up causing? it’s an irony i love to indulge in & think about. Rather than being stuck up and proud i personally think draco would have wished for anything else. I’m pretty sure draco would be the type who would pull a disgusted face if he saw a thestral rather than be happy by it. He wouldn’t want to show this patronus off. Like, can you imagine? Pansy pestering him to show her, “wow i bet it’s a fucking ferret, isn’t it”, and when she actually sees it everything goes to shit because of fucking course, draco malfoy out of all people would have a thestral patronus, that even the embodiement of his happiest memory and his soul would link back to the horrors of the war and what he’s done.

Thestrals as you all know are considered to be dangerous, omens of misfortune and only visible to those who have seen death. They are quite literally representative of death. It spells out /evil/ and /bad/ no matter how you look at how the world portrays them.

This is where I’m grateful for Luna Lovegood. We’ve all seen a different side to the thestrals in the films, with Luna stating that “they’re quite gentle, really, but people tend to avoid them because they’re a bit…different.” Thestrals externally look ghostly, grim with them being dark & skeletal all the way through ( this could be another reason why draco = thestral but i’m not making that connection LOL ) if we place in on a canon timeline, the only place where draco would /really/ be trying to conjure a patronus would be after the war, and keeping that in mind it makes a lot of sense. It’s not a big stretch to say that post-war draco became an image of the war, with him being a death eater. His past haunts him, with people only seeing into his image of a death eater without acknowledging him trying his best to redeem himself.

The whole idea of a thestral being a creature that is representive of death & misfortune but also having the ability to be a person’s patronus, basically the opposite of what a thestral is known for, is SUCH a good way of describing draco. The image of post-war draco malfoy is like the image of a thestral in a flowerfield, they stand out too much for their setting of peace despite them not doing anything but being themselves. People fear/hate thestrals and they can’t help it, just as people can’t help but slap “death eater” on draco.

BUT! despite their external appearances thestrals are gentle, extremely loyal…and cutting away at the war and everything else we know draco is loyal. He is so loyal to his family, and even if its /bad/ he wouldn’t hesitate to defend them even if it’s by taunting / mocking the person. He loves them, and this goes both ways - maybe it’s him being prideful of his blood heritage because of how he was raised, or maybe he truly really loves his family ( which i definitely think he goddamn does ). Thestrals can be representative of both, they are attracted to the smell of blood but will also become aggressive if they view someone as a threat to themselves, their friends or even their owner.

It makes sense that draco’s patronus would be a gentle, misunderstood being who sometimes does the wrong thing out of love, or fear, but for a reason that isn’t purely “ because i wanted to”. I just really like the idea of a thestral both symbolising draco’s deeper, hidden parts that he’s too scared to show to the world while also simultaneously being able to represent his life and what he experiences.

I also do think it’ll be a nice way to make draco get over the horrors of war and let go of his past and just live. Draco coming to terms with him having a thestral patronus would practically be him coming to terms with who he is and the mistakes he’s made.

And just to add onto everything above : draco was owner of the elder wand at a point ( thestral hair core ), and thinking about when he was the owner and what was happening at the time, i think everything works out nicely.

All in all i just think thestral is a really clever choice for draco, and clever just so happens to work perfectly for him.

EDIT: ALL THIS AND I FORGOT TO EVEN MENTION THE FACT THAT THESTRALS ARE CLEVER

Jemma + Words of Validation to Fitz

May God bless you with a restless discomfort about easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may boldly apply the truth of Christ and love as he loved from deep within your heart.

May God bless you with holy anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for peace, justice and freedom and demonstrate that true peace comes only in Christ.

May God bless you with the gift of tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, or the loss of all that they cherish, so that you might comfort them and, in so doing, point them to the Great Comforter, Jesus Christ, the only One who truly transforms sorrow into joy.

May God bless you with enough faith to believe that you really can make a difference in this world, so that you are able, with God’s grace in Christ, to do what otherwise could not be done.
