Thanks to you Fellow Strangers!
I know Roland…I know…Its sad Strange
Magic will never see a sequel. Its poor advertisement and lack of hype
made it so hardly anyone even knew about it. It made no money. Even my friends who
are animated movie nuts didn’t know about it, until they heard about it from
me. But they do now and love it!
Even I dismissed it at first because
frankly when I saw the trailer in January, I thought it was just another crappy
low budget fairy tale flick that took after Ferngully, Arthur and Epic. But that’s
because the trailer told me nothing. Had
I known the actual story, I would have gone to see it like it should be seen,
on the big screen! Little did I know renting it out of boredom one day would
change my whole opinion. And I, someone who hates musicals fell in love with it
after it ended, watched the rental for its full three days, bought the streaming
movie on Amazon and now own the DVD and Soundtrack. Oh the soundtrack….
It’s just beautiful. One of my favorite
all time stories put to big screen, and I never would have known about it had I
not been browsing the new releases for something to do.
When I read its Wiki page, I was sad to
see its box office returns and reviews. Such a shame because it has a ton of
potential. Far more than some of the other animated movies that seem to be
coughing out sequels like pez dispensers because they are cute and guaranteed
to make money. I know George Lucas made it for the fun of it, but I tend to
think if it made money he might consider a sequel, or if anything a short.
But to be honest, deep down I’m sort of
ok with it being a small fandom that is slowly gaining momentum and a following.
When a fandom grows because the source marital itself is good it has a lot more
meaning to it than being popular because it’s the newest fad. And when a new
fan comes along and I read…”Just saw Strange Magic and I love it!”….It makes me
feel great! And it’s not because it’s so
hyped and over saturated you see it on every single kid’s lunchbox. It’s because
it’s genuinely good and they happened to of watched it one day out of boredom,
and they are now a devoted fan.
It’s the lack of hype I feel that
inspires people to make such awesome fan art, fanfiction and music. Thinking,
if it doesn’t exist then I will make it exist! Not to mention the discussions I’ve
seen about its awesome animation, how it makes people feel and how the
characters have moved them. I’ve seen other fandoms on Tumblr and this one is
by far the most pleasant I’ve been involved in!
So thanks to you, fellow “Strangers”
Thanks to all!
