it look so nice on photoshop

Other artists: “I have so many brushes in Photoshop! I use this one for clouds, I’ve got this one that does really nice leaves and I have a different one for grass too. This one has just the right texture for doing skin, this one is good for hair, and this one is really good for short fur like on a dog or something. I’ve also seen a really nice brush pack that I am looking forward to trying tonight!”

GIF ^ of How I “recycle” photographs as backgrounds for my art! :)

(a reminder that I do not draw them! I mean you cannot think I am this good who do you think I am I’m just a mortal human)

First of all, I normally use images that are not copyrighted, if that’s the correct word. I look for them by searching some keywords in Google Image search (in this case, I googled “scottish highlands”), then clicking “Tools” below the search bar, going to “Usage rights,” and selecting “Labeled for reuse with modification” so that I know I’m 100% allowed to freely use any of the images that come up!

I usually blur images out, and since I don’t have Photoshop, I do that on GIMP, a basic free editing software. I select the Gaussian Blur filter and adjust how intense I want it to be :) (Also, the further a plane is, the more I blur it. So grass at the bottom of the frame is blurred the least, and the furthest mountains–the most)

The rest is done on Paint Tool SAI. I just play around with different colors, opacity levels, and layer modes to see what’d look nice!

It’s a fun process and it’s my preferred technique to compensate for my lack of enjoyment of and skill in actually drawing backgrounds myself! ^^ With all these filters added, the photograph turns into a completely different piece of art itself!

I love you charms!! They are so cute!! As an artist trying to get started on selling my own products, i was wondering if i could ask how you make your packaging look so nice? I would love to learn how to make my stuff look so professional.

Oh me gosh, you have no idea how much that means to me… I’m emotional now! ( ・ᴗ・̥̥̥ ) Thank you very much lovely! ( ◜◒◝ )♡ I apologize in advanced for taking forever to answer your wonderful ask. You caught me right in the middle of prepping for a convention 。(*^▽^*)ゞ

Anywhosies~ Here’s a small tutorial on how I do my packaging for charms:

First, make your design. I sometimes sketch out the design on paper before I move onto Photoshop. Depending on how big you want your packaging to be, is how big you want your design to be. I prefer to use 3x5in and always work under a 300dpi/resolution or bigger. Make sure you are able to find baggies with your dimensions before you design. I’ll talk about this further into this tutorial.

Tip: Make your width at least .25in smaller! Some baggies are a couple of millimeters smaller from the actual width. I keep forgetting to fix this little detail thus why you see the width as 3in instead of 2.75in.

The design is really up to you. You can have a theme going on per set, per charm, or you can even just use your logo as the design for every charm and make your life easier lol  There’s no rules to follow, just have fun and design away!

Tip: Don’t overdue your designs though, you want the charm to be the main focus. Something simple yet fun and or elegant will work. Don’t be afraid to google examples of other people’s designs. That will give you an idea and get you going.

Save your designs! Save them as both a JPG and PS file (or as the software you are using).

Be organized! If you plan on having multiple designs or even make lots more charms in the future, name them so they are easier to find. Your packaging designs can even have their own folder or sub folder if needed.

Setting up. Open any wordpad or word processor of your choice and add your design. Depending on how big your design is, you’ll be able to fit more or less.

Print a test page. Print your design on your everyday normal paper just to check that everything looks okay! If your printer is like mine, it will be a troll and sometimes print a bit crooked, but don’t worry! Since they’ll be cut, it doesn’t affect your designs in any way.

Now let’s print…

Ta-daaaa! Here are my designs that I printed on the cardstock I fell in love with. The cardstock I use is called Astroparche Cover Stock and it’s from the brand, Neenah. I love the natural look it has–it’s not white, so ye be warned that the colors will have a small slight tint of yellow when printing. The cardstock is also thick enough for my printer to use and sturdy enough for my charms. You can find this cardstock on Amazon, but I was lucky enough to find it at my local Office Depot!

Tip: Photo paper can also be used if you so prefer. Again, whatever makes you happy and works best for you.

Get your handy dandy paper cutter ready…

Cut, cut, cut! Cut out all your designs with your paper cutter. I don’t suggest using scissors unless you trust your hand enough that it won’t mess up and cut straight! If you don’t have a paper cutter, note that you most certainly do not need to buy the huge guillotine type. There’s small ones that can be used and can even be taken with you to conventions! The one I use is small and cute and has been with me for three years and the extra blade that came with it has not been used yet. Amazing~

Punch, punch, punch! Time to get your hole puncher and punch them little holes. I actually have a special hole puncher with a 3mm hole, but you can definitely use a regular 6mm hole puncher. How far down you want your hole to be is up to you.

Tip: If you want to get fancy, you can even buy hole punchers that have cute hole designs! Like stars or hearts ♡ ☆ ♡ ☆

Baggies!!! So, remember how I said to make sure to find baggies with the dimensions you plan to use before designing? This is only because of the rare chance you use certain dimensions that there’s no baggies for. Always double check!

Anyways, when buying baggies, make sure that you go half and inch (or more) above your height so you can create a tab to fold back and tape your baggie shut. You can also find baggies that already have adhesive! It’s just a matter of what you like and what works for you. Maybe you want to get creative and use a cute sticker or washi tape to close your baggie, who knows! Some people even buy baggies with hang tabs to hang them for display when they’re tabling in conventions.

“But Dee, where do I find baggies??”

*squishes your cheeks and whispers*

Ebay… Ebay is your best friend. Search for clear cello/poly bags ( ̄▽ ̄*)

Almost there…

Setting up! Once you have your charms built and ready to go, it’s time to package them and use your new super duper amazing designs! For this, we’ll be using washi tape since it doesn’t leave any residue and it’s easier to peel off. Any washi tape will do, it doesn’t matter! I tend to rip off about 10-20 pieces at a time to have them ready to go. It makes things easier on my end.

For cellphone straps: Loop the strap inside the hole and align your charm. Once you are happy, tape the strap with the washi tape.

For key chains: Yes, it works just as well! But we’ll be needing ribbon, 3mm wide ribbon to be exact. Cut about 2in and loop one end inside the split ring while bringing the other end above. Bring both ends of the ribbon into the hole and align your charm. Once you are happy, tape the ribbon. You should now have your charm cutely hanging from the ribbon~

All you gotta do now is bag ‘em, seal ‘em, and you are ready to go! Look at you–you did it! I’m so proud of you ( ・ᴗ・̥̥̥ )

I hope this helps you and anyone else looking to start making their own unique packaging for their cute charms~ ❤ (ɔˆз(ˆ⌣ˆc)

FIXED IT

Notice anything different? It’s fine if you don’t. It’s a bit subtle. Let’s take a look at the original.

See it now? Doesn’t Rose looked a bit cramped there in the corner? Hard to see? Made less visible? Most of her leg is missing. Hell, the outside of her hair is kissing the edge of the page. Cropped any closer and we’d start to lose part of her head. That’s funny, because Poe has plenty of space.

hmmm.

This is an internationally famous magazine, employing world-class photographers and designers. Surely they wouldn’t make such a clumsy crop by mistake?

It’s almost like they did it on purpose.

Because they did.

The photographer who took the photos used for this cover, Annie Leibovitz, is one of the most famous portrait photographers in the world. It’s hard to imagine that she would photograph one of her subjects in such a cramped pose.

Because she didn’t.

Let’s take a look inside the magazine…

Make Me Choose:

@jungkookbunbun requested Blood Sweat Tears Original Version vs Japanese Version

I don’t know how I never noticed this before but I LOVE that Victor is doing the victory sign WRONG in this photo he is like me too! I am doing the hand thing too! Me, Victor Nikiforov, your soon-to-be son-in-law! ME TOO I AM PART OF FAMILY TOO

Like even though how did he do this how did you even do this wrong are you fake smoking a pretend cigarette what do you even think everyone else is doing Victor, I AM SO CHARMED

(Also I love that Yuri P simultaneously looks like he’s a Russian tourist kid who accidentally photobombed a nice Japanese family with an enthusiastic foreign husband or was photoshopped into it by Mari, his fan, yet also still looks like he’s part of this family shot, every single frame of this anime is a treasure)

How to Achieve a Painterly Look in Photoshop

If you used Photoshop for a while, you know that it is slightly harsh on the colors. It blends them in an odd way, sometimes not quite like how traditional paint mixes. It is also difficult to achieve a nice color range without going over into extremes and overly saturated or contrasted look. Overall, it’s hard to avoid that strange ‘digital’ look.

So, how to avoid that and not have the piece look muddy? Also how to make colors seem rich without the piece looking like an unicorn barf? Short (biased) answer: Slowy layer colors in various Layer Modes to build your piece up. Almost like the old masters, right?

I’m absolutely certain there are other ways, but as someone with classical training in painting, this seems the closest to the real thing to me personally. Below I went over all the steps I do to achieve the painterly look and color range I want.

*The screenshots of color picker window and the green squares mark the color range I use in each step. Note, however, that the hue is NOT the one I used in the piece.

Sterek Prompt Number 47 Please!

AHHH I LOVE THIS!!!! Here is #47: “I thought it was a one-night stand…but now we’re married…”

Stiles woke up with a headache and a small groan, eyes adjusting to the sunlight coming from the wall of windows he was facing. It was weird…his and Scotty’s motel room didn’t have a wall of windows let alone a killer view of the Vegas strip.

Oh God this wasn’t the motel.

Stiles suddenly was hyper aware of the body pressed against his back and the arm hooked around his bare chest. He swallowed so hard it hurt as he glanced down to see the sheet barely covering their undoubtedly bare lower halves. Then his eyes caught sight of the body behind him and holy shit he was ninety nine point two percent sure he was sleeping with a GQ model.

He turned his head back to the windows trying to think of a way out of this, except then there was movement and stubble ran across the nape of his neck and there was a hard cock pressed against his ass–

With that he slithered ungracefully out of the man’s grip until he rolled off the bed and took half the sheets with him. There was a groan from the bed when he fell to the floor with a thud, and somehow he managed to hit his funny bone.

“Ow, fuck,” Stiles whined, sitting up to see the GQ model awake and naked in all his very sexy glory. Man for a one night stand he really got lucky, but terribly so he can’t remember a fucking thing.

No more alcohol. Ever.

“Um, hi,” the guy said, face pinched up.

Stiles felt like drooling because man those eyebrows could murder someone, but those green-blue eyes were to die for. Jesus those cheekbones couldn’t be real either, they looked so sharp and angular. This guy is photoshopped for sure.

“Well I’m pretty sad I can’t remember what I would assume to be awesome sex, but this was nice, gotta go,” Stiles blurted out and stood up, wrapping the sheet around his lower half just now noticing the marks all across his torso.

Oh the sex must’ve been amazing.

“Hey–”

“No seriously man I gotta go, my best friend is probably worried sick,” Stiles pressed, grabbing his boxers.

“Wait–”

“Look dude I don’t know–”

“We have rings on our fingers!” The model blurted out and Stiles paused looking at his hands only to see his ring finger with a gold band on it. His vision spiraled a bit as he stood up on shaky legs. He twisted the band on his finger, slipping it off to look at the rather expensive piece of jewelry. On the inside of the band he read a tiny engraving “drunk married is the best married”.

Holy hell.

“I thought it was a one-night stand…but now we’re married…,” he trailed off looking to the other man, stark naked and honestly still looking hotter than the sun. From his toned body to his bunny like teeth that poked from his slightly parted lips.

“I’m Derek,” the guy -Derek- said suddenly.

“Stiles–and yes, it’s a nickname,” he answered, moving to sit on the edge of the bed, still wrapped in the sheet. The silence lingered, sitting between them and festering until Derek pulled off his own ring and looked inside it.

“It’s says “his name his Mieczyslaw”…I think I remember you told me last night when we bought the rings,” Derek said and Stiles paled with a low groan, shoving his face in his hands. He doesn’t know where Scott is, he’s slept with the world’s hottest man alive, and he’s married to said man who knows his atrocity of a first name.

Great. Fucking great.

“I don’t think this is how a honeymoon is supposed to go.”

“Seriously, Stiles?”

“What? I heard they were much better than this– I mean most people know their husbands.”

Derek was quiet for a long time after that before finally saying, “…my favorite color is green.”

Stiles couldn’t help the smile that crossed his face.

So two years later at their real wedding the color theme was white and green, both of them wearing the same rings that started this beautiful perfect mess.

ASK ME A PROMPT FOR THE DRABBLE CHALLENGE!

So sick of the Sarah Ryder hate

When Bioware comes up with a female character who has actual human features and you bum around in Photoshop to Disney-fy her and wail about how that was so easy and can’t they make “good” female characters, does it EVER occur to you to wonder if they did what they did on purpose?

….Because women’s features aren’t actually distorted that way?

…Because on average, male characters are not as skewed in terms of eye size, etc, it would be nice to start showing female characters who look as much like normal women as male characters look like men?

…Because it is genuinely nice to have characters who act like their game mission is their first priority, not “corrective” surgery so they can be attractive to you? (Looking at you, you “don’t they have nose jobs in the future” asshole.)

…Because unlike you, they are not literally equating being a “good” female character with being attractive? Because they know that’s not what women are for?

Here’s how Essence shows how pathetic they are: by photoshopping Kerry and the Nnobody to obtain a “wedding looking” photo to wish them “happy anniversary” for a marriage that never happened. Using photos from TWO DIFFERENT EVENTS.

Here is Kerry with Ava at the SPIRIT AWARDS, the Nnobody is on the other side of the photo next to David Oyelowo.

So what do we do? Cut The Nnobody and David, so we have a right positioning for being actually close to someone in a photo. Here we go:

Then… Here is Kerry with Thandie Newton at the SAG AWARDS. Nice “couple” positioning except OOPS we’ll need to FLIP Kerry as she’s on the wrong side of the photo!

So we flip the photo, superimpose and of course put a totally different background there so as to hide the problems and VOILA! With only one problem: you can see Thandie Newton’s hand in the flipped photo as well of course… exact same fingers and position, and you can see the Nnobody’s hand and his positioning that are EXACTLY those of the other photo, but hey, details.  LOL

PITIFUL photoshop job. DESPERATE, and I mean hater-level desperate.

Essence was always nothing but mainly false narratives, but this? This is low even for them.

*deeply inhales* OMG I love your art so much, I'm just in love with it. I'm not very new here, but I don't know why I'm waiting so long to show how much I like your art. I kinda want to draw on the computer and stuff, but I have no idea what art tools I should get? What program should I use to draw? Which tablet do I choose? Are you gonna do more Undertale art dumps? How does one draw characters like you do? Sorry if this is a lot of questions, but I'm just so ... (/◕ヮ◕)/ happy

I definitely recommend saving up for a drawing tablet, I use a Wacom tablet, the one I’m using is a bit expensive but I’m sure any of their tablets are good, they have a few different names.

As for drawing programs, I use photoshop, it’s also a bit costly but if you can spare the money it can really be a nice software to use. There’s also a free one called Gimp but I don’t use it so I don’t know how good it is.

drawing characters? I used the sprites and some of my favourite fan arts for reference so I could develop my own look for them and then proceed to draw them a million times. As you can see, style can change quite a bit.

first ever drawing of Sans and Frisk I did last February

to a more recent one. Yeah it’s changed a lot XD

So I just finished watching Psycho Pass (awesome btw) and I was searching for nice pics when… I found this.

It was on a YouTube video but apart from the first and last guy (except the face that I think is Goto’s), those are NOT the PP characters… they look like Hyogo Kaga, the MC and another guy from hlitf???

I mean it’s just a photoshopped image that has probably been here for a long time, but I can’t stop laughing because it was used on a French fanmade promo video here for real
