it even involved oliver

I’m fully convinced, now more than ever, that Chase is involved with Helix. And the best part is he probably only had to make one small move to set this play in motion. All he’d really need to do would be to tell Helix who Felicity was, because he’d know Helix would recruit her and he’d know Felicity would say yes.

Kidnapping Susan instead of Felicity meant that Felicity was free to help Oliver get intel on Susan’s location, which Chase knew would mean digging herself in deeper with Helix, which would mean getting herself in trouble with the law somewhere down the line. He WANTS Felicity to work with Helix, because he WANTS her to break the law and he WANTS her to get caught. By keeping this from Oliver, Felicity’s driving a wedge between them, which means Oliver won’t see it coming. Chase knows how much it will hurt Oliver to see Felicity behind bars and feeling like he’s to blame for it.

So even though Chase knew it would hurt Oliver more if he kidnapped Felicity instead of Susan, he knew that NOT kidnapping Felicity would eventually hurt Oliver even more down the line.

Felicity’s involvement with Helix is one of those “ten steps ahead.” He’s playing the long game with Felicity. To borrow the chess metaphor, he’s going to strike the Queen last, and if Felicity continues to keep this secret from him, he’s going to be completely blindsided by this move. And I cannot WAIT to see this storyline continue to play out.

EDIT: Holy hell I just thought of something else. What if Chase kidnapped Oliver for this same reason? What if Chase kidnapped Oliver because he knew Felicity would move heaven and earth to find him; that she would dig herself in even deeper with Helix in order to save him.

What if kidnapping Oliver has nothing to do with Oliver and everything to do with Felicity?

Hi there jessica! Do you see a reunion of olicity before the season ends?

…Were you looking for a bit more? ;)

Ok, but I’m going to add a couple of other asks to this because they’re very similar and no point writing out the same reply 5 different ways (2 have been in my inbox for too long, oops):

“Hello; read your posts, really liked your explanations but I’m worrying. I don’t see how Olicity could reunite by ep20! Won’t they need more time?! They’ve already taken so long. Since they’re following S3, they could sleep together, especially if they go on the run together. Saw a theory that they go Lian Yu? That would be interesting. Would fit with them running. What do you think’s going to happen?”

“Hi! There have been a lot of theories about Olicity this season. Do you really think season 5 is paralleling season 3?”

“Hey Jessica! So what do you think about the Olicity love scene being a flashback?”

“What about Oliver’s dark spiral? SA said he’s going to be resigned to his fate; won’t that affect a possible reunion?”

Wow! I see: it’s THAT time of year! (I’ll do my best!)

Here’s the meat of it: since they broke up, I have been 100% certain that Olicity would get back together but I wasn’t always certain of when until last October (2016). I figured they’d be sending the wrong kind of message to have them take 2 or 3 seasons to reunite; as if they were the type of couple who couldn’t work through their differences and that ONLY time apart could heal them.

Time apart – factually – would kill them.

It’s part of the reason why she stayed with him in episode 4.23.

But until last year, I was the type of reviewer that didn’t think or consider the content of the shows I watch. I should have done because I missed so many clues. I took Psychology (a lifetime ago and am rusty as heck so don’t expect any profiling, you’ll be disappointed ;)) and I loved English literature; I know what a thematic analysis is etc, so… shouldn’t I have known better?

I have my own life but Arrow – this fandom – is where I go to replenish, so to speak. It’s where my brain switches off. To escape for a while. But it became more than that during season 4. Suddenly it was this hopeful symbol; the idea, however naïve, that love prevails and that trust can be earned, that even when things look so very bad, they can always get better. Naïve, right?

Because then Oliver and Felicity broke up and my mind just kind of went… ‘what’?

Too much heart. Not enough brain :)

I was too involved in what I was watching and sometimes you need to take several steps back and actually connect some dots: I used to be so good at that. But it had been years and I’d forgotten how. But then I found @louiseblue1 and her insights; these on top of @jbuffyangel reviews and her fabulous way of understanding narrative flows, Cali’s knack for hitting the head of every nail out there and @dust2dust34 @so-caffeinated natural understanding of Oliver Queen, gave me a kind of swift subconscious kick to the head that I needed to pull back a bit and really look at the show the way it needed to be looked at.

(I will fully admit that I’ve needed Bre and @callistawolf to bring me back from a major huff and puff once or twice this year too;))

I say this because I want you to understand that I’m just going off what I now see. I may not be right. But until proven otherwise, I’m sticking to the near-invisible threads we’ve been watching so far this season.

Do I think they’ll reunite by season end? Yes. Absolutely. Since Diggle asked Oliver that question in episode 1, about whether his life would personally involve Felicity Smoak in future (OF COURSE IT WILL), to which he answered ‘I don’t know’.

Since then.

There are other reasons why I do but as the above questions don’t ask for them, I’m going to save you the many pages I’d write about them ;)

Okay! *rubs hands together* episode 20…

Why are people assuming they WILL reunite episode 20?

Has there been a spoiler saying they will?

I’d LOVE it but I think we’ve learned pretty damn well that expecting anything to happen will only end in disappointment.

Just because its episode 20, it doesn’t mean they’re following season 3 to the letter. I’ve had a few asks that have made it very clear to me that people are expecting a LITERAL – not just a figurative – 3.20 parallel for episode 5.20.

Please don’t.

Season 5’s parallels to season 3 are absolutely present and we should pay attention to them but they also haven’t been quite so obvious thus far as to copy season 3’s progression.

The obvious parallel is that Felicity is – in a different kind of slide into darkness – sort of doing a ‘season 3 Oliver Queen’. But mostly, it’s been in the little things. And the symbolic things.

For instance, I highly doubt O + F are going to go away together to someplace in episode 20, have some life affirming sex (I’D LOVE IT THOUGH), say I love you and have Oliver leave her to face her horrible fate… just like a 3.20 parallel. Like a copy and paste, just switching character placements.

I don’t think I like that idea. It feels cheap. This deserves to be handled properly; no rushing.

For one thing, from the spoilers, I think they’re trapped – not necessarily running - and the team needs to save them (remember that pick of Echo propelling down that shaft?). I think they’ll be alone together.

As I theorized in my post (an hour or a day), I think they’re going to air everything out in this episode. Big time. They’ll have no choice because they’re trapped but to face each other. They’ll have no choice because with out it, moving forwards will be impossible for them. And though I have no idea what would come of it I do know that by itself is supremely different to what happened with them 3.20. That was an ‘I love you’ and a ‘goodbye’. A physical representation of repressed feelings coming to the surface.

Oliver and Felicity have always been magical at communicating without words, which was why sex was the obvious conclusion in 3.20.

But THIS time? They NEED to flipping talk.

And sometimes? Talking is an intimacy – and an openness - unto itself that even sex cannot reach.

I think they need to reach that final level with each other; the level where two people meet in the center and understand each other completely. They’re going to connect. Really connect, one soul to another (cheesy I know), or that’s what I hope for. I mean, there really is no other choice for these two.

They’ve ruined each other for anyone else.

Felicity found a boyfriend in Billy, because it wasn’t a chance to take (she wasn’t risking her heart, she was defending it); he was an escape option and a shield. It was her saying ‘look how fine I am’? ‘I’m absolutely over Oliver Queen’. ‘He can do whatever he likes too’. ‘No I don’t think about him every second of the day’…

It’s human. And it’s painful. And it’s sad. It’s natural. It tells us just how much she isn’t passed it all.

Oliver found Snoozan who, like Billy, doesn’t quite fit the title of girlfriend.

Neither Oliver or Felicity – or ANY other character – has really been able to refer to Billy/Snoozan as their boyfriend/girlfriend respectively which delights me.

Oliver has been routine in his belief that he isn’t good enough for Felicity since season 3 (a bit of 2 as well), so he settled for whatever life threw at him this year (HIS WORDS IN EPSIDOE 5). Life threw Snoozan at him and he went along for the ride.

Both Felicity and Oliver developed feelings for these two but I promise you now, those feelings aren’t lasting. Nor are they romantic love.

They’re both these tools for O + F to try with.

These attempts failed horrifically.

Billy was killed by Oliver, a deliberate attempt of Adrian’s to prove him the monster he keeps inferring he is and Snoozan and Oliver broke because of secrets he refused to share hoping she’d just believe in him anyway.

Which she didn’t.

(Funny, we all thought Oliver would tell her his secret etc but he didn’t even come close and he CHOOSE that; it’s why he questions what he was even thinking getting involved with her. I’ll tell you Oliver; you were lonely and desperate for someone to see a man instead of the monster you think you are. Poor guy.)

Because, when you spend enough time with someone you develop feelings for them. It’s only natural. But it also makes me feel sorry for Billy and Snoozan (not really) because neither Oliver nor Felicity chose them because they were attracted to them, or because they were tempted, or because they even liked them.

Felicity was hiding. Oliver was settling. Both were looking for comfort.

How flattering.

Which ultimately makes both these relationships utterly unimportant.

AND it explains how stiff Oliver was after sleeping with Snoozan and the feeling that Felicity wasn’t completely present with Billy after they’d done the same.

Now timing has been ridiculous on this show; sometimes the pacing makes sense, sometimes it doesn’t. Maybe the flashback will explain more as to the why’s of their behaviour. But, really, one episode is all they need. OF COURSE THERE’S TIME.

Olicity has spent the season decidedly NOT talking. And it HAS to be for a reason. They used to always talk. Now they don’t. Why did they make that choice? A choice that has obviously hurt them both.

Just as the flashback sex HAS to be for a reason. As great as it is that they will show this, they wouldn’t do it without a reason. I’m guessing that whatever happened between them between S4 and 5, explains their behaviour this season. There’s been a ‘we’re completely fine’ air about them both that feels off (we know SA and EBR are fab actors so this is deliberate). Eventually ‘fine’ won’t cut it for either of them.

They’re already coming close to their attempt at pretending that they’re fine, shattering into little pieces.

We’re already seeing the signs in episodes 15 and 16.

Notice Felicity’s physical and verbal responses to him? They’re a bit softer. There’s a lack of defensiveness about her person that made me grin. His focus on her in episode 16 broke through a wall and it surprised her. I think she’s building up to a conclusion.

And Oliver? He’s started concentrating on her again, directing his thoughts to her – I MEAN SNOOZAN WAS TAKEN AND HE WAS ALL ‘NO THAT DOESN’T MATTER; I’M WORRIED ABOUT YOU’ - like he can’t help himself. But his path – because of Adrian – is about to get ten times darker.

Like I said in my post, I think he’ll break. I also think there is a chance Felicity might too for a different reason and in a very different way. But in this regard I also think that, in this respect, she’s stronger than Oliver. Maybe she knows more than we think she does about Helix.

But him breaking will test EVERYONE, including the team. (Maybe that’s why episode 18 is called disbanded *shrugs*)

The sex scene being a flashback isn’t a problem for me.

But when I first discovered it, I will admit to thinking DAMN! WHY NOT IN THE PRESENT? LET THEM VENT IT OUT! BRING ON THE SEX; ALL THE SEX!!

But… at this stage, without really connecting again, wouldn’t that kind of physical explosion just hurt them? It wouldn’t be an answer. Maybe AFTER they talked.

Plus, flashback sex proves neither could keep their hands off each other during the summer. How gratifying.

But I’ve also heard some people saying that their perception of the sex being a flashback is Arrow’s way of telling the fandom that Olicity really are a thing of the past. Dear God, why waste ANY sex scene on them if they were saying goodbye to them.

Why trap them together?

Why claim it’s a big Olicity episode?

Why would the climax of the season be anything but that: a CLIMAX. Something we’ve been waiting for.

Look at season 1: Oliver and Laurel, after spending most of the season apart (seriously, their scenes were few and far between and absent of romantic emotions) suddenly (because it was abrupt, no lead up or anything other than Laurel throwing herself at Oliver right after he lies and tells her what she wants to hear), have sex. Episode 21.

It’s VERY possible. Probable even. There’s no way they’re saying goodbye to Olicity. James Bamford even confirmed (last year) @jbuffyangel theory about them relearning each other. How better to know someone than to walk in their footsteps?

MG asked us to be patient.

WM said that there were some storyline they could only do if they were apart and they were obligated to do them, even if we didn’t like them.

Other than that, we don’t really have enough info to say for sure about what, when, where, how… and I expect to be proven wrong at some point.

Whether they go to Lian Yu or not, I’m also clueless.

But I want to point out something.

True love, fun and bedroom antics…

These are Stephen’s words about the nature of Oliver and Felicity’s season 4 relationship and they make so many things clear in where they may be heading. He didn’t need to clarify that: he offered it. We’ve learned a fundamental truth about our Captain this year:

Everything Stephen says is deliberate. EVERYTHING he says is honest (sometimes you just have to dig or filter or read between the lines):

He brought up the Russian Vodka sex, which I’m sure, was meant to be a joke (I thought it was) but we know has been confirmed thanks to JB for the flash back sequence. And notice how he behaved when he said it – the slight ‘it’s important but I’m going to coolly play off’ shrug thing and slight smile – and the way Emily looked at him, like she was dying not to laugh.

He brought up killing Billy BEFORE episode 1 even aired. Yes, it was another joke, but he referenced it at least 2 more times afterwards. And Oliver did kill Billy.

Bu that quote made it clear that their relationship in season 4 was fundamentally lacking something. The words are great but a relationship doesn’t last from embracing only the good things.

They learned how to fight in season 3.

In season 4 they learned how to live together.

In season 5 maybe they’ll finally learn how to UNDERSTAND each other.

It gives them room to grow as a couple too. It suggests that once they achieve this, then that will be it. When they get back together, maybe they’ll never break again (*fingers crossed*).

He also stressed that Oliver KNOWS he’s at fault for their breakup (to all the people hating MG’s interview recently where he said that Felicity’s lack of understanding is was broke them up, please be aware we only received a partial interview and that he was talking technically – Felicity DID break them up but the reason why they broke up was Oliver’s, that was the point).

Now, why would Stephen do that? Why would he also say that she was right to break up with him, that it was only choice for her to make? She needed to learn something this year and I think she is. I think they’re going to focus on this. Soon. Because they have too; they can’t leave this hanging in the air.

Stephen also said that we shouldn’t stop hoping for them.

AND he has said that there’s a reason for the way Oliver’s been acting this year…

So I looked back at how he’s been acting. He’s content in a way, but not happy. More brutal. Tougher. A better manipulator, lonelier, more understanding and ethically confused. Tired. Like a constant cognitive dissonance. Felicity told him that he was in a schism. He still is in one.

Season 3 had him choose between the Arrow and Oliver Queen. He chose the former. Season 4 had him discovering how to be Oliver. Season 5 has had him try to merge these two identity’s but he can’t because he has a third. The monster. Where every other aspect of himself is defeated by this creature of violence and death and destruction. The man we’ve been seeing in the Bratva flashbacks. The thing created from placing a man in hostile environments for years and having him claw his way out. Only, he never really did.

He never left.

I think that’s what Adrian is trying to reveal to Oliver; that his true self is this monster. Stephen added that Oliver will be resigned to his fate after episode 17. I think Prometheus is going to somehow convince him – manipulate and mind screw with him – that he can’t change his fate: a fate to be a monster who lives alone.

(Can’t wait to discover this secret he wants Oliver to reveal to him!)

This season NEEDS Oliver to find a way to merge his identities. To see the light again and I don’t think that’s possible without Felicity Smoak.

So yes, I feel very good about a reunion. Due to how the season has run, I don’t expect one until episode 23 but I do feel that episode 20 will be one for the books!

I know I ranted. It’s a problem. But I cannot WAIT for this episode (well I can but it’s very difficult) because WHATEVER happens - BAD OR GOOD - will be a culmination of the events leading up to it – with Oliver a broken and Felicity making morally ambiguous choices - and I for one am super excited to see how it plays out!

Missing after a Time Jump!

At the end of 5.18 we saw Adrian Chase driving his car.  What if he drives his car out of the city and drops off the map.  Don’t forget that the FBI is now after him after killing two FBI agents. Adrian goes so deep under, the FBI can’t find him.

We know that in 5.19 Felicity leading team Helix and Oliver leading Team Arrow are in a race to get him.

What if at the end of 5.19 Chase is captured and he is taken into an Argus prison by Lyla who is the leader of Helix.  What if they take Adrian to the Argus Maximum security prison on Lian Yu? With the help of Susan and the evidence found against Chase; the Green Arrow name can be cleared and the team feels safe.

Something happens in 5.20 and Oliver and Felicity get entrapped in the bunker and are forced to discuss their issues.  We are supposed to get an explanation for why Oliver and Felicity broke up.  What specific issues have kept them apart and how they need to address these issues to get back together.

I have always thought that part of addressing the trust issues; Felicity would want Oliver to connect with William; and that is something Oliver had refused to do in the past; and that is why she had closed the door.

In 5.21 Honor thy father which will air May 10, six days before Oliver’s birthday of May 16; Oliver gets invited as the mayor to the opening ceremony of the new Robert Queen Applied Sciences Building built by Palmer Tech, Oliver has a flashback to his childhood; to his birthday at the mansion with Raisa and to the Queen legacy; and whether we see it on screen or not; Oliver decides that now after Adrian is captured he feels safe enough to reach out to his son. Felicity and Curtis are inspired to start-up their own company; and with Oliver resolving the William disconnect; in a stable environment we see Oliver and Felicity take a first step towards reconciliation with a birthday celebration.

At the beginning of 5.22 Thea returns to Star City after 5 months and its now its early October of 2017.  Felicity and Curtis have established Smoak Technologies; @sweetdawn129 you asked me to explain how could they be filming in the museum which is supposed to be the supposed location of Smaok Tech! Oliver and Felicity are back together and are possibly engaged or even married.  Oliver is sporting a fabulous haircut and is being a marvelous mayor and father and Thea is congratulating him.

But because this is Arrow; they get news that  Adrian Chase along with BS, Boomerang  and Deathstroke are MISSING from the Maximum Security prison on Lian Yu; and because Oliver Queen is the only one who knows the island like the back of his hand; Argus asks Oliver to come back to assist in the apprehension of all these loose criminals before a rescue ship comes to collect them off the island.  I suspect Evelyn assisted in the escape.

That is why Oliver and team go to the island to apprehend the criminals and bring them back to prison.  But who dies?  Adrian I am guessing.  It explains why the season finale combination which starts in 5.22 with happy; shows Oliver debating whether he wants to even get involved and then worry in the island sequence that ends in Adrian’s death.

If you look at Echo’s emojis after the death; I think the Santa is Robinson Cruzo Oliver  in the finale that airs on May 24 but is supposed to coincide with October 10, 2012/17 where Oliver gets rescued.

The last three emojis after the flashback rescue.. I am still working on.

Chapter Five

When Felicity’s parents announce that they’re hiring someone to be her personal bodyguard, what she hears is that she’s going to be stuck with a 24/7 babysitter… something she is so not on board with.

When Oliver takes up the offer to work for the Smoak family he thinks it’s just another job, but he has no idea what he’s about to get himself into.

Protecting the “tech empire heiress” is the easy part, matters of the heart are where things get a bit more complicated.

A big thanks to Sara @gothsmoak who created the stunning cover art for this story and Aubrey @aubvi my awesome beta :)

Hey y'all! You survived the week in between the cliffhanger :) After the last chapter a lot of people were thinking that Laurel was going to get involved somehow with Oliver and honestly they don’t even interact in this fic lol so don’t worry about that ;) Anyway, I’ll stop my rambling so you guys can get to reading the chapter…

….continued from last week….

“So maybe you could… let me go and not tell my parents?”

He just stared at her for a second, probably still processing her ramble, before exhaling in defeat, “Fine. But I’m coming with you.”

She pouted, “Why?”

Having her bodyguard trailing her kind of defeated the purpose of trying to pretend that she had a normal life.

He fixed her with a resolute look, “Because it’s my job Miss Smoak.”

She had said there was no way she was going to the party if he was tagging along, but at this point she wasn’t going to bail on Sara, so she sighed in resignation, “I won’t even know you’re there?”

He nodded, “I promise.”

She believed him, he had made good on that promise so far. She really only noticed he was around when he opened a door for her or said good morning or she was staring at him because he was so distractingly good looking.

“Okay.” She pulled her phone out and called Sara. “Change of plans. Mr. Queen is driving.”

Oliver surveyed the scene that was familiar to many a party he had attended while he was in high school. In fact, it was extremely familiar because he had been at this very house before. Katie Bowen was the younger sister to Carter Bowen, who had been in his graduating class, and if he could remember correctly, an annoying prick.

He kept his distance, blending easily into the edge of the crowd. Either almost everyone was already too tipsy to notice that he looked out of place, or he had actually succeeded in the impossible task Felicity had charged him with of becoming invisible. Even with keeping his distance, he maintained a careful eye on Felicity as she awkwardly navigated the loud, rowdy room. For someone who held her own in meetings with top level executives, she looked utterly confused as to how to act in this situation and it was mildly amusing to watch. His eyes flicked around the room, wondering where Sara had abandoned her to, and found her dancing in the middle a group of girls.

Catching his eye, she gave him a wink and he shook his head in thinly veiled amusement before turning his attention back to Felicity. Or where Felicity was just a moment before.

                                         Chapter 6: Wedding Eve

Felicity stared down at her mother of pearl toes and fingernails. She always felt so pampered getting her nails done by someone else. Growing up with a single mother there wasn’t extra money for mani-pedis, instead they had their own mani-pedi nights. Donna started doing Felicity’s nails at young age but it was always a mother daughter affair.

“Hey Hun, should we go pay and get going? We have a couple of hours before the rehearsal.”

“Oh, it’s all paid for.”

“Sara, shouldn’t have done that!”

“She didn’t.” Felicity looked away.

I just read Winter's Blue Children's excellent 4x07 coda. It brings up a good question: Why DID Oliver agree to get involved in Laurel's absurdly dangerous plot to bring down her father, knowing that his involvement would devastate Connor? Didn't season 3 end with Oliver's saying in so many words that Connor was the most important thing in his world, someone for whom he'd do anything?

Yeah but this show ignores previous characterization whenever it’s convenient for them. Even though in past seasons Oliver’s been eager to be involved in risky situations, this season he’s been very reluctant to be involved in anything that Laurel or Michaela tell him to do. Even if he really wants to do this to get justice for Wes, it makes zero sense that he would keep this a secret from Connor after everything that happened in season three. Like……. how many times are we going to have to the same conflict of them keeping secrets from each other? It’s the same thing every season.

ALSO Oliver was so concerned in the beginning of 4.07 about Simon losing his job and being deported and was trying to tell Michaela about it, but then at the end of the episode he’s okay with incriminating Simon and getting him deported if he’s caught??? what?????? Everything we know about Oliver’s character goes against this. It’s believable that Oliver would do illegal things and make progressively bad decisions in order to do something that he believes is right. It’s not believable that he would allow an innocent man to take the fall for a crime he did not commit and get deported as a result.

Feeling noglastic over Laurel/Oliver, Katie Cassidy said such lovely things about them over the years:
“I think Oliver has been the love of her life for as long as she’s known him.” (2013)
“There’s just so much history between those two characters.” (2013)
“Oliver and Laurel are meant to be.” (2013)
“They’re each others ‘ideally’ first and hopefully at some point, each others lasts. No one can really ever compare to Oliver the way that Laurel sees him and I think Oliver feels the same way about Laurel.” (2013)
“When I read that Slade tells [Laurel] that Oliver is the Arrow, I definitely felt as though that made her embrace the situation even more and made her fall more in love with him. Because at the end of the day, he is the person that she thought he was.” (2014)
“At the end of the day, he’s the love of her life and anything can happen. You never know.” (2014)
“At the end of the day, I do think that they are soulmates. I always will think that even if Oliver is involved with Felicity or not. Needless to say, just because it’s your soulmate, that doesn’t mean you end up with them. Sometimes soulmates just remain best friends.” (2015)

Who Is Really The Original Team Arrow?

I disagree with laurel/oliver original team arrow but i don’t know how to explain my opion exactly on the subject and you word things so much better than i ever could.

I’ve gotten this question twice, so I figured I’d better answer it. lol I’ve seen this argument between Oliciters and Laurivers floating around for awhile. Let’s all remember everyone is on the same team. Everyone wants to do good - Felicity, Diggle and Laurel. That being said…there is an answer to this question as to who Original Team Arrow is.

The Queen Siblings

Might as well get right into the thick of the murkiest part of the episode. Thea arrives at the Loft to go over information that their campaign has dug up on Oliver and she mentions a 2013 Homeland Security investigation discovered Moira had written an uncashed check in 2007 to Samantha Clayton. Oliver, naturally, lies through his teeth about not knowing anything about and plays it off as inconsequential to him. But Oliver sucks at lying—apparently to everyone but Felicity these days—and his behavior raised a red flag to Thea who proceeded to look into it.

That’s right. Thea did some basic digging and discovered the bare minimum of facts about Samantha Clayton that ended up drawing a William-shape picture.

I have not at all been shy about expressing my displeasure with this storyline. I have also made sure to base my frustrations in the actual storytelling and not, “I hate this because it’s going to break up Olicity.” Am I thrilled they are breaking up—gulp—next week? Not even remotely because I hate seeing my babies in pain. Am I looking forward to seeing how Stephen and Emily play out this angst? Yeah, because they are two fabulous actors who are so in tuned with their characters and each other. I know they are going to make me bleed—likely to death. (It’s fine. I’ve been in touch with local coroner; he knows exactly what I want written down as cause of death.) Also I know that the fandom is going to become hella productive on this after next week.

The frustrating thing is that the writers, each week, keep adding to the problems with this cockamamie storyline. It’s drama for the sake of drama and the nonsensical crap playing out on my screen shows that the writers only did it for angst and to delay Olicity’s journey down the aisle. Not because it had any inherent value as a story. There is a business behind their decision; I get that. But there are better ways to get their business done than this.

Here is where I am going to start dragging the writers…again.

Thea Queen put together the facts enough to come up with the truth about William. All the ways that she did it could have easily been done with Google and Facebook. That’s right. William’s so-called protection was predicated upon people’s decision not to search people online. (Snickers). If Oliver’s own campaign came up with the uncashed check, who is to say that Ruvé Adams’ wouldn’t either? The fact is that Moira Queen’s involvement in the Undertaking is a liability to Oliver’s campaign. I don’t care that it was implied she would have won her own election; I always felt that was bullshit. I know the people of Star City have questionable intelligence for staying in a place so damn riddled with terrorist attacks but were they really so stupid as to elect the woman who had a hand—unwillingly or not—in one such attack? She said she did it to protect her children; that means they are a proven weakness that people could use against her. Thus they were something that could be exploited by a political opponent of Moira’s should she have lived. Granted, Moira’s tragic death makes her an insensitive topic to hammer away at in regards to Oliver but opposing campaign managers would be fools not to dig into the complicated treasure chest of Moira’s past for things to use against the Queen family name.

My point is that of course Ruvé  Adams’ team is going to investigate all facets of Oliver’s life. If they came across this suspicious check it would have been as easily possible for them to find an association between Oliver and Samantha as Thea did—regardless of Malcolm playing tattletale to Damien. Ergo, William’s existence wasn’t much of a secret to begin with when Google and Facebook are your first line of defense.

Barry and Kara are too adorable!! I'm literally doing kicky feet and flailing a little while watching this!

Honestly, it felt so natural to see Barry and Kara in the same space.  I forgot that Barry isn’t naturally a part of the Supergirl team.  The way Kara responds to him, it is like “Cousin Barry” came home.

Being a speedster endows Barry with one of the coolest abilities in the multiverse: the ability to travel freely between dimensions.  As we saw in the episode, there are restrictions;  Barry gets stuck on Kara’s Earth.  But he doesn’t panic over it.  He relaxes.  He’s in good hands.  After all, they’re practically family.

What I love is that Barry’s departure isn’t goodbye, it’s “time to catch my train home.”

For Barry, National City is a leisurely break from his own routine; he uses it as an opportunity to make friends.  Kara and Barry’s friendship is extraordinary.  It’s established in the first few seconds they have together and runs so deep.

It reminds me of Oliver and Barry’s relationship.  Despite Oliver’s initial reservations in 2.08 “The Scientist,” Barry quickly becomes an integral part of Oliver’s life.  Their support for each other is unconditional: Barry defends Oliver and Oliver protects Barry (even if it involves shooting him with a couple arrows to knock down his pride a peg or two).  Both of them work amazingly well together in the field.

Starting to sound familiar?  <3  Now we have Barry meet Kara for the first time and it feels like they’ve been friends forever.  There is no “we’re strangers” interval.  Barry is just not that kind of person; he immediately warms up to Kara and her team.  He’s so friendly and genuine and important to Kara he strikes me as a big brother type.  He loves her.  And she loves him.

Barry is a mentor, too, which is a fantastic role for him.  He has matured so much.  Not only do his words resonate, but he also listens more.  It’s a good mark of how much his character has developed; stepping back really shows how much he has settled into a leadership role oriented around his team.

What I also love is how Barry has internalized Oliver’s lessons, offering the same advice to Kara throughout the episode: case a situation, don’t be overly reliant on your super powers, and know that you can come back from a bad situation stronger.  He listened.  He learned.  He got stronger.

And he lets Kara call the shots, he listens, and it makes his relationship with her so much stronger.

At the end of the day, all of these heroes have their own separate corners – in the case of Supergirl, they have an entirely separate universe.  They all have different teams who form a more immediate part of their lives.  But when they do find an opportunity to meet up, it’s clear that they’re not just strangers whose lives periodically intersect.  They’re family.

Cheers to Barry finally meeting Kara, and Kara finally meeting Barry.  Until next time.  <3

Laurel Lance 2.01

Sunday Morning Musings: Olicity  - Church of The Fallen

It’s been a wild week in the Arrow verse, folks. While I have yet to post my review of Arrow, ‘The Fallen’, I will later today, I’d like to take a moment to hold a bit of an Olicity sermon this morning.

Everyone in the fandom should be fully aware of the fact that I’m an Olicity fan (red, white and blue) I know Olicity and have adored them since….

MJ: You know Katie, many fans of the show have been pushing to see the romance between Oliver and Felicity develop. When we chatted a couple of years ago, you said that you believed Laurel was Oliver’s first and hopefully last love.  Do you still feel that way?

KC: Absolutely! I think people go through different things in life, different phases, and timing is everything and right now romantically Laurel is not thinking romantically, I don’t think. She is focused on something else and Oliver and Felicity have a connection but, at the end of the day, I do think that they [Laurel and Oliver] are soulmates. I always will think that even if Oliver is involved with Felicity or not. Needless to say, just because it’s your soulmate, that doesn’t mean you end up with them. Sometimes soulmates just remain best friends. It’s funny because obviously I am on the show and read the scripts, but I’ll also watch the episodes and yesterday (I don’t know if you saw it) but I hashtagged on my Twitter “#Olicity” because everybody loves the Oliver/Felicity/Laurel triangle that is going on.  And with the writing, they [Oliver and Felicity] have good chemistry but I think at some point maybe far later down the line we may explore that… getting back into Laurel and Oliver romantically but it is absolutely not in her wavelength at all right now. I think she has a lot going on and a lot to deal with and she can’t really think like that at the moment.

It just keeps getting better and better around here. Thank you.

I want to marry Oliver’s expressions when it comes to Felicity – his head nods, head slants, smiles, eyebrow raises, etc.

I don’t know what it is, but Oliver’s ability to convey a damn novel of emotions in his face whenever Felicity is around is a neverending love story for me that can go on and on and on and I’d never get bored because I can watch his facial gymnastics all day and be just as enthused with the next chapter (Season 3).

I mean, even when he rolls his eyes and does that thing with his mouth as if he’s doing his best to hold something in is equally endearing to me because Felicity with her cuteness, sense of humor, and her unique ability of spitting out things on her mind that have a way of coming out wrong (or with sexual undertones) always could provoke a response out of Oliver that involved these multitude of expressions that we didn’t even know Oliver Queen was capable of early on, but, boom, they kept appearing around our little Felicity.

I know why I fell in love with Olicity, because they were complete strangers who in time learned to trust each other and confide in the other; they changed the other’s life for the better; they would do anything for the other no questions asked; their chemistry was/is in a world of its own; and their love is pure and untainted.

Man, it’s great to have a daily reminder of as many of those longing stares/teethless grins/sideway glances and the like that all you gif makers compile so I can “see” what it is that I’m feeling.  Because Oliver was “technically” in love (or so he thought) with someone else early on but what he developed with Felicity by chance was on a whole other level and it single-handedly erased the past and showed him his future.

Love you guys!

p.s.  (Video makers, I’m not excluding you.  You give me audible to go with my visual.  Love you guys)
