it always starts with a lighthouse

11 writing problems and solutions

Writing is a craft. It takes time for anyone to learn and improve. But there are some shortcuts you can try, maybe adapt to your own needs. Here are 11 writing problems and their solutions, or hacks.

Too many ideas syndrome

Problem: You have too many equally good story ideas and can’t pick just one to write.

Solution: Select your top 3 favorite stories and write the first scene of all three. If you can’t decide, write the first chapter. The right project will be easier to work with, you’ll have fun writing it, you will be daydreaming about the story, you will love the characters. So, give away three chances instead of one.

Outline spoiling the fun

Problem: Whenever you outline a story idea, it completely spoils your will to write it. The mystery is gone.

Solution: Instead of outlining the whole story, just make a clear goal on how your characters should end. Will they succeed? Will they fail? Will they be happy? Will they find redemption? Will they be wronged? Decide how your story should end and explore the plot as you go. Remember, no one will read your first draft, so just write.

Lost midway

Problem: If you are a pantser, you might get lost in the middle of the story, especially after the first plot point.

Solution: Give your story an ending. If you know where your characters will end up, you’ll have a better understanding of which routes to take. Always keep in mind how the story will end. Use it as the beacon of a lighthouse to guide you through stormy waters.

Creative block

Problem: You don’t have story ideas. Or nothing you have so far excites you enough for a novel.

Solution: Read a book or watch a movie completely out of your genre. This works like magic, I promise. I’m not a sci-fi person, but Akira has given me more story ideas than any movie and book from my own genre.

Writing anxiety

Problem: You are scared of writing, scared of starting a new story, or just scared of not doing a good job.

Solution: Write a fanfic. No one expects a fanfic to be a masterpiece (although many are). Fanfics are done for fun and for passion. So, write your book in fanfic format. You can even use fandom characters and aus in the process. When the story is completed, change back to original characters.

Editing as you write

Problem: You keep going back to previous paragraphs and editing instead of moving forward with your writing.

Solution: Write your novel by hand. This might sound like a lot of work, but it’s quite the opposite. The white screen of the computer urges you to review, to make it perfect, academic like perfect. The paper however, brings you back to the craft, to the urge of filling lines and pages. Handwriting also gives you the opportunity of sketching and doodling.

Procrastination

Problem: Tumblr. Youtube. Email. Netflix. Bathroom. Fridge. Bed.

Solution: Go offline. Turn off your wi-fi. Use a device without internet connection. Or, if you keep fooling yourself and turning the internet back on, write your novel by hand. Give yourself a daily hour of internet, but live offline. And if you take unnecessary trips to the fridge or the bathroom, try the pomodoro technique.

Lack of plots

Problem: Nothing relevant is happening, your story looks kind of boring. Or the main plot is too weak for a whole novel.

Solution: Take a few days off. Just relax. When you are ready to go back, read what you have written so far. Maybe you were just tired. But, if the story really sucks, go back to basics. Ask yourself two questions. What type of story am I writing? How will this story end? Follow the answer like a map. Change what needs to be changed, even if you have to delete the whole progress. If you lack plots, don’t add fillers, just go back to basics.

Weak main character

Problem: Your character lacks personality, voice and/or visuals.

Solution: Give your main character three things. An external battle. An internal battle. And an unique feature. The external battle is their goal, what they want to achieve, what they dream about. An internal battle is their fears, traumas, doubts, mental issues, prejudices and triggers to overcome. An unique feature is what sets them apart from other characters, maybe they have piercings, or tattoos, or pink hair, or lilac eyes, maybe they wear neon boots, or a mask, or mittens, maybe they are left-handed, or blind, maybe they have a scar, or a birthmark. Every amazing main character has external battles, internal battles and unique features.

Depression

Problem: You have no will to write. The passion is gone. You feel empty.

Solution: If you don’t have access to medical help, reading is a good way to reevaluate your career and regain your passion for the words. Read lots of books. Don’t worry about writing, just read. Lose yourself in fictional adventures. Read sci-fi, romance, horror, fantasy, crime, family saga, classics, foreigner fictions, fanfics, shorts, poetry. Immerse in literature. Literature can save lives.

Strange dialogues

Problem: Dialogues seem too formal, or too much like the narration, or characters lack individuality.

Solution: Read your dialogues out loud while acting as your characters. You can find a quiet empty room for that. Be an actor. Go for the emotions. Record your acting sections, after all, you might improvise at some point.

Connor Kenway x Reader: I Wish For A Family

The soft crackling of the fire and the steady sound of raindrops hitting the windows were the only sounds that were competing to fill the silence that seemed to hollow the house. You were accompanied by a collection of books; an intriguing series that you were determined to finish as the storm outside weakened. There wasn’t much conversation anymore. Your eyes departed from the words on the page to gaze over to the chair Achilles used to sit in. It was times like these where his absence was palpable in an almost painful manner. You wished that he was here to offer his advice on how future events should be handled, to defeat you in every board game you played and to argue with the Native Assassin who now carried an even bigger load of worries and responsibilities than he did before.

With a sigh, you gently closed the book and placed it in its rightful place atop of the others. The soft silk material of your skirt trailed behind you as you stepped into the kitchen and found the necessary ingredients to make a delicious stew to feed yourself and the man who had sealed himself in his room upstairs. It all felt strangely domestic as you placed the apron over your head and tied it firmly behind you. Being trained by the French Brotherhood as if you were one of their own, you were a fierce assassin; as deadly as you were sophisticated and graceful. George Washington knew you by name, Lafayette could give testimony of your skills and Haytham Kenway himself had surprised his son when Connor was in the middle of introducing you but the Grand Master already knew of you.

You cut the carrots, the meat, and everything else before adding it into the pot and stirring it as it heated. You wiped your hands on the apron and turned to ready the bowls and utensils. The American Revolution had been fought and the colonists earned their victory. The United States of America had been the title given to the liberated nation and though now the people could take a break and celebrate their success, the work of the Assassins was just getting started. The American Brotherhood needed to be built to ensure their presence in the states was firm and lasting for the war with the Templars was far from over. The threat of Templar Order had been almost completely eradicated, yes, but the Assassins needed to be established for the freedom of the people and their posterity.

Ratonhnhaké:ton had this weight on his shoulders as well as the burden of knowing his people were driven from their land. In his life he had lost countless people. His story was painful in so many ways that you only wished for happiness to finally find him.

You carefully placed the bowls of hot stew on a tray along with two glasses of water. You carried these across the threshold and into the dinning room where you placed the bowls across from each other in the seats that Connor and you usually sat in. You could not help but look at the head of the table where Achilles used to sit. You walked up the stairs and towards the room where Connor resided to knock on the door.

“Connor,” you called out as you heard movement in his room.

The door opened to reveal the assassin who was not wearing his trademark robes but a simple white shirt that reached his elbows and blue pants.

“Dinner is ready downstairs. I was hoping you’d join me.”

“Of course.”

The both of you made your way downstairs and towards your respective seats. Connor thanked you for the food and you assured him that it was nothing. The same silence that you were trying to escape returned as the two of you enjoyed the flavors of the stew and the refreshment of the water. You knew well that he took notice of the way you examined him with concerned eyes looking for something to let you know how he was feeling but he had become extremely proficient at hiding his emotions.

You knew well the incredible warrior Connor was, you knew that he had the strength to survive any hardship that life placed in front of him but you had been his partner for years and had hoped that the trust you both shared was enough for him to know that he didn’t have to do this along; that you were more than willing to help. But before you could aid him you had to know what was wrong.

After eating, you stood to pick up everything and return it to the kitchen but Connor stopped you with a gesture of his hand.

“Please, allow me.” He said, lightly taking the bowl and cup from your hands and gathering them with his own before he walked to the kitchen.

He was fully aware that you followed behind him; walking in that soft, graceful way that made it seem as if you were gliding with your long skirts trailing behind you. There were many things on his mind, some that he was willing to share and others that he wanted to keep to himself. Connor knew that it wasn’t fair to you. He knew that you spent your days recruiting and training new assassins, just as he did, chatting with the other women in the homestead that you had become close friends with and making sure that everything in this home and outside ran smoothly. He did these things as well, obviously, but when he was away strengthening relations between the Caribbean brotherhood and his own, you were placed in charge.

You were the person he most trusted, a woman he admired for your strength and intelligence. He was sure that you already began to formulate your theories as to why he had been so distant suddenly and Connor felt guilty for making you worry. With all the courage he possessed he suddenly vulnerable under your analyzing gaze and he didn’t know how to explain what had put him in such an isolated place.

He finished washing the dishes and moved to go somewhere but he was suddenly stopped by your small hand grabbing his. All movement halted as he felt the coolness of your hand invade the warmth of his. Connor wasn’t one for physical contact but he always welcomed yours. Whether it came in the form of hugs or the rare kiss on the cheek, the gravitational pull he felt towards you was something he could never explain when he was younger.

For some time he felt as if he would never feel the love of another, especially from such a beautiful and refined lady like you, because of his heritage. He learned from others that women did these actions, gave these hugs, as a sign of friendship and that is what he took them as. For such a long time that had been enough…but his mentality began to change as he grew older.

“Connor, do you trust me?”

The inquiry in her voice saddened him. This shouldn’t be a question that needed to be asked.

“You are one of the persons in this life that I trust most.” Connor reassured, the depth of his kind eyes meeting your own. “Never place in doubt my trust in you.”

“Then tell me what you are thinking. The house already feels empty without Achilles and without your presence it just becomes more hollow.”

Upon hearing your words his hand moved to grab your upper arm and hold it in sympathy; as a way to comfort you.

“That is not what I wanted…I am sorry, (Your Name). I…” He trailed off as he took his hand off you and moved around you and towards the living room. “The things that burden my mind are not what you expect.”

“Explain it to me.” You told him. “You’ve helped me dozens of times. I wish to do the same.”

He stopped walking once he reached a place near the window where he could survey the storm that thrashed the nature outside. He contemplated the words he wanted to say to her and how he was going to do so while she leaned against the archway giving him the time he needed.

“The war has ended and the tyranny of the English crown and the Templar Order have been warded off.” He began. “What do you wish to happen now?”

You crossed your arms and rested your head against the doorway. “Well, I wish for the our influence to grow stronger here in to make sure that future attempts from the Templars to rise up again can be stopped. I wish for there to be a strong connection between not only us and the Caribbean brotherhood, but also the ones in Europe and around the world. I wish for the homestead to thrive always as it has been-”

“No. What I had meant was…what do you wish to happen to you, personally.” Connor tried again, looking a bit flustered because he hadn’t been clear enough the first time.

“Oh, to me? Um, well, I wish to be of service for as long as I can and help mentor the new assassins under your leadership.”

Connor’s eyes left yours as he shook his head and looked down to the floor. You suddenly felt as if you had answered the wrong thing and you didn’t understand. After the death of your father and the abandonment of your mother, you were sent to a family friend in France where you were raised in the creed. You had been working for the assassins all your life and could not imagine doing anything else with the knowledge of the evil that was found in this world. Your thoughts wondered if Connor was thinking about leaving the assassins but you quickly dismissed the idea. That was not something Connor would ever do.

“Was that the wrong thing to say?” You asked as you moved into the room.

“No. It is an honorable thing to want.”

You waited a moment before asking.

“What do you want, Connor?”

He took a moment before answering.

“I wish for a family.”

You are not going to lie and say that you weren’t surprised, even shocked, at his answer. Years ago, the both of you had been on aboard the Aquila resting inside the captain’s cabin after defeating a number of ships that had been controlling the bay around a lighthouse that they shouldn’t have been in. During the battle you had been slightly injured and now sat in his chair bandaging the wound when conversation between you two started. You talked the war, the homestead, the past and what waited ahead of you. It was in that conversation that you learned that Connor did not have time for romance. Members of the homestead were always asking him when he was going to find a nice girl during the times where all of them gathered to eat and have a good time. He had told you that he had other priorities with his people that came first and they would always come first, as would the fight for freedom.

You had agreed with him and somehow convinced yourself that his mentality would never change.

“Two weeks ago we all gathered in welcoming the child of Myriam and Norris’s to this world. I had returned days later to ask if they had a sufficient amount of firewood for the night or meat, since Myriam is now too busy to hunt, and she asked me if I could hold him for a moment. She placed her child in my arms, her small baby boy and I was overtaken by a strong feeling in my chest.” He said as he tapped his chest for emphasis, trying to get you to understand . “I want that. I want to be able to hold a child of my own. I want to watch my little one grow, watch him learn to form words and take his first steps. I want a wife. A woman whom would love me just as much as I would love her.”

The emotions in his words were so strong they touched your heart. In the long time that you had known Connor, you had never heard him speak as he was now. His eyes were filled with such emotion as if his wishes were never going to be attained no matter how much he wanted it. It was the first time that you had seen him want something other than freedom for his people and the death of his enemies. This time he wanted something that everyone wanted to have but it seemed as if a part of him believed he would not achieve this.

“Connor you will have that.” You tried to reassure him. “You will find a woman who will you love immeasurably, you’ll see. You will also have children who will adore you and see you as their hero. I have no doubt in my mind that you will be a wonderful husband and an excellent father.”

Connor’s desperate eyes once more looked away from yours. He shook his head again, running a hand through his hair which had begun to grow back to how it used to be. You didn’t understand why this was causing him such anguish. You moved closer to him and placed a hand on his face so that he was once again looking at you. You held his gaze and looked deeply into his eyes so that she can find the source of his insecurities and extinguish it.

“Ratonhnhaké:ton, it will happen. You are such an exemplary person. You are brave beyond compare and never in my life have I met someone who can even come close to having the same amount of goodness that lives in you. Life may have been cruel to you like that storm outside but soon the storm will end and the sun will shine. And when the sun shines upon you, Connor, and it will, you will have everything that you want and more.”

Your words were so sincere that they softened his expression but not what burned in his eyes. You wrapped your arms around his neck and embraced him closely. He laid his head on your shoulder and after a bit he wrapped his arms around you to hold you as tightly as you were holding him. You could feel his breath on your neck as you rested your head on the side of his. You had never been this close to Connor. Yes, you had given him hugs before, but nothing like this. Your heart began to beat a little faster and you hoped he could not feel it.

Connor had not had the blessing of living that normal life that so many seemed to have. He did not grow up in a home where he had both his mother and his father. He had been denied both from an early age. He did not know what it was like for a family to be together and united because he had no example of it but after seeing the joy Norris and Myriam had…he wanted it. He wanted it badly.

“I want to have all of that with you.”

That’s when you were sure he wasn’t going to feel how fast your heart was beating because your heart stopped. You couldn’t believe what you had just heard.

In the years following you meeting the native, you had harbored feelings for him. Everything about him, to you, seemed perfect. You had fallen in love with the way he carefully enunciated every word to make sure that he was pronouncing it correctly, the way he would let his guard down around you sometimes and smile, the way his eyes held pride when he watched you in battle, with his morals and the way he would do anything to protect those he loved. You thought then, and now, that he was incredibly handsome but that conversation you both had on the Aquila made you hide your feelings and even try to ignore them.

Because you thought that he would never feel the same way.

He had held you but your silence was all he needed to confirm his doubts. He remembered the day that you had arrived to the homestead. You arrived wearing expensive clothing with your hair braided up and pearls pinned in the elaborate braid. Even in the city he had not seen a lady like you. Your eyes were bright and warm. Your smile was directed at him with no prejudice. He had not believed that someone that looked so delicate and elegant could be a skilled assassin. He was proved wrong many times over. Especially the time when you had been the first one to swing off the Aquila and attack that Man O’ War which surprised Mr. Faulkner who had first been against you boarding the ship (saying woman on board brought bad luck). After that his crew affectionally had nicknamed you the ‘Pirate Lass’.

He always sought to be near you. He wanted to be near you but you did not feel the same way.

“I should not have said that. I am sorry.” He said with fear and regret coating his words.

“No, wait, Connor-” He tried to slip away from you but you didn’t let him. “I…”

How were you supposed to explain how you felt for him for so many years? How you suppressed it in fear that you could lose his friendship? That you were so shocked and happy at his words that you didn’t know how to tell him?

He waited because you stopped him. His eyes urged you to go on even if it was to tell him the hard truth that you did not feel the same way.

“I’ve felt…I…” You sighed to shake off the sudden nervousness that now filled you. “I had feelings for you. I’ve always thought you were one of a kind, handsome and gallant. I had so many feelings I was afraid you would notice the way I smiled too widely. I always thought I was a bother to you. And then that night on your ship, after we defeated those ships that were controlling the lighthouse, you told me that you weren’t interested in a relationship and I respected that. You were right. I saw why you would want to make that decision and so I concealed my feelings.”

“I spoke those words while a war raged among us.” Connor clarified. “I could not allow my emotions to show. Our lives were threatened. At any moment anything could have happened to either of us.”

“I know,” you nodded.

He looked at you intently. You had taken small sections from the front of your hair and braided it so that it almost appeared as if you were wearing a crown; half up and half down. You didn’t have pearls pinned in your hair nor flowers but you looked no less radiant.

“I see things differently now.” The Master Assassin said with conviction. “The brotherhood is growing at a steady pace. All of our goals can and will be attained rather quickly. Perhaps it is time for the rain to cease and for the sun to shine.”

You turned to look outside and smiled when you saw that the storm had stopped. The only thing that remained from the brutal downpour was the crystal clear droplets that slid down the surface of the windows. It was only a matter of time before the sun broke through the clouds and basked everything in its golden light; you both knew that. Connor, still slightly timid, takes a hold of your hand.

“(Your Name)…I will do everything in my power to have the feelings you had for me return.”

“You already have them, Ratonhnhaké:ton.”

“But you said ’had’.” Connor said, his expression twisting in confusion.

You gave him a sweet smile before using both hands to bring him close enough to kiss. And kiss him you did. It had been Connor’s first kiss so despite not knowing that to do he followed your movements and kissed you back. It was that kiss that told him that your feelings had never left; they were only hidden but now, since the sun was going to shine, there is no need for them to hide from the storm any longer.

“You know, secretly, I’ve also always wanted to start a family.”

The joyful and hopeful grin he gave you was priceless.

The Lighthouse

Pairing: Kim Namjoon x Reader
Rated: T
Genre: Fluff & the slightest angst
Word Count: 3,776

Summary: You fell hard and fast for a gentle gaze and dimpled smile, the kindness and innocence that fills his heart and it makes you ache to return to that lighthouse once again.

A/N: I half love half hate this piece of work but it’s been forever since I last posted a fic so here we are 🎉 also I don’t know for sure if Namjoon’s pup is actually a boy or girl so I just guessed.

The midday sun is warm against your face as you lean your head back, eyes closed and hair knotting in the cool breeze. The sound of strong waves slapping against jagged rock lull you into a state of daydreaming, though you’re startled out of it from the sound of a wooden door slamming against the wall of the lighthouse, rattling its hinges.

You release the metal railing you were holding onto and place your hand over your thundering heart, squinting through the sunlight at a man chasing a frantic seagull out of the doorway who is quick to take flight. You stand there, mouth slightly agape, listening to the man grumble to himself something along the lines of grumble to himself something along the lines of ‘Pesky… good for nothing…’ and ‘Lucky I don’t eat you for dinner.’ He runs a hand through his hair and turns himself back towards the door but the flutter of your dress catches his eye, making him jerk back in surprise at the sight of you.

“Why… were you chasing a seagull?” You call across the space between the two of you.

Masterlist |

Imagine you and Chris going to your best friends’ wedding weekend. (Part B)

A/N: Part 4B ❤️ @chrisevans-imagines Oh man, your birthday is really soon! I hate how expensive postage is, so I’m glad Tumblr is free. We can consider this an unconventional present, right? Sorry this didn’t come out at it’s regular time, I was a little distracted watching Zac Efron movies last night. 😋 You can read the related mini-series and the previous parts here: (Mini-series - Masterlist; Mini-series Spin-off: ‘Unexpected Reader’, ‘Little Ways Away’, ‘She Said Yes’, ‘Miss Graduate’, ‘Something Blue’, ‘Something New’ - Masterlist; ‘Baby Steps’: Part 1/Part 2/Part 3A/3B/Part 4A)

It was only 7:00AM when you got to Ava’s room, but she was already having breakfast while her hairstylist worked on putting her long locks into an elegant up-do. “Aw, babe. You look exhausted.” You spotted a sympathetic smile on her lips when you moved to stand behind her and she caught you in her sights. “You know you don’t have to get up so early, you can come when the beauticians are ready to work on you.”

“And miss the chance to have a little girl talk?” You giggled, pulling up a chair so you could get off your feet. “No thanks.” You bit playfully and she laughed, reaching behind her to squeeze your hand before returning to her cereal. “So how are you feeling?” You asked, resting your hands on your belly. “I feel like we haven’t had as much alone time since the guys came to our lives. I love them, but there are some days where I’d still rather just you and me.”

“Yes, take me back to those good old days.” She joked and you nodded, laughing. “I’m feeling good, really good. I’m excited to get married, and I’m excited to meet our little boy and your little boy and- Things are good, really good,” she nodded and you found yourself nodding in agreement. “And how are you doing? Are you a little less overwhelmed now?”

“Yeah,” you smiled. “I’ve had some time to really just sit and bask in the fact that I am pregnant and I am going to be a mom. Chris and I went to a birthing class together for the first time, which is ridiculous considering Jack’s due next month.” Ava nodded, laughing; she and Sebastian signed up for all the classes as soon as they found out they were pregnant. “And I finally joined him shopping for clothes and other nursery items instead of letting mom and Lisa take my place. I don’t know, it’s still a little overwhelming but I am feeling much better about it all. Chris has been a rock, I honestly don’t know what I’d do without him.”

“You’d strive anyway,” she winked and you smiled, “you’re amazing like that.”

“Knock knock,” Ava’s mom poked her head into the room and you both turned to smile at her. Your smile widened when you saw who was with her; Ava’s baby brother, Kian. You smiled and gave him a little wave, earning one in return. “I hope we’re not interrupting, we just thought we’d come and see how things were going. Kian also had something he wanted to give his big sister. Go on, sweetheart. Go give Ava the present you got her,” she released his hand and he padded over to Ava with a little paper bag.

“How are you, Mandy?” You smiled at her when she pulled up a chair and sat down next to you.

“You’re asking me? I should be asking you that,” she smiled and gave your belly a gentle rub. Your smiles widened when Jack kicked under her palm. “I heard about your RV road trip,” she chuckled when she pulled her hand away, and you bit back your smile. “You poor darlings, maybe you should just stay in New York and have the baby here.”

“No way,” you laughed, “Chris would have a heart attack. Ever since Seb saw me in a Yankees cap, he has been sending me Yankees merchandise for my birthday and Christmas presents. And he knows I’m not an actual baseball fan, he just likes messing with Chris.” Mandy laughed. “I am not going to give him another reason to drive Chris up the wall by giving birth in New York. Seb will mark Jack with the Yankees seal and Chris will pop a vessel.”

“Funny you should say that,” Ava looked at you and her mom through the mirror as she picked her brother up to sit him on her lap. “Seb was actually hoping you’d go into labor while you were in New York.” You laughed because why were you not surprised? “He has a little Yankees cap with Jack’s name embroidered on the back waiting in our apartment to- he said and I quote, ‘bless Baby Cap’s little head with’.”

“He couldn’t just get one for his own son and leave Jack out of it?”

“We haven’t thought of a name yet, but don’t worry- our little peanut will get a hat too.” She said, drawing laughter from you and Mandy. “What did you get me, Kian?” She asked in a softer, gentler voice as she addressed her brother. “Thank you so much, little man.” She took the little paper bag and gasped when she pulled out Cartier’s signature red box; the size looked like the contents involved a necklace. “Is this a joke?” She turned to face her mom with furrowed brows. “How much did you guys spend?”

“Enough for our daughter to know how happy we are for her,” she got to her feet and kissed the top of Ava’s head. Ava sighed, but smile and kissed her mom’s cheek as a thank you. “We’ll leave you girls to it. Come on,” she lifted Kian into her arms and exited.

“What is it?” You sat forward to peer over Ava’s shoulder as she opened the lid of the box, revealing a eye-catching sapphire necklace. You smiled when you saw Ava’s eyes quickly fill with tears, knowing she was touched by her parents’ thoughtfulness and generosity. She didn’t show much interest when you asked her if she wanted to meet the old wedding tradition: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a six pence in one’s shoe. It may have been a folklore that originated from her country, but she was a lot more practical than you were; she didn’t live her life like it was a romantic comedy. Either way, you could tell she was overjoyed with the gift from the look in her eyes when you said, “looks like you got your something new and something blue after all.”

Sebastian stood in front of the full length mirror in his room and adjusted his tie. His eyes darted to the clock hanging on the wall behind him; 11:43AM which meant there were seventeen minutes until he was officially married. He let out a shaky breath as he rubbed his hands together, all the while experiencing the incessant flutters that came from the wings of the butterflies living in his stomach. Now he knew Ava was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, but it didn’t stop him from feeling nervous. Everything was happening so quickly, he was going to get married today and in June- he was going to become a father to a baby boy. All these were great things that he was excited for, but it was a little overwhelming. You and Sebastian were similar there; you were extremely good at psyching yourselves out. Hence why you’d both found life partners in Chris and Ava, they were good at bringing the two of you back to reality.

“Bas,” Chace threw a scrunched up ball of paper across the room and got Sebastian in the shoulder, earning the attention he wanted from his best friend. “Are you okay?” He chuckled softly at the nervous expression on Sebastian’s face. “Do you need some air?” He asked and got a head shake 'no’ from Sebastian.

“It’s okay if you do,” Don told him. “I did too.”

“I know it is,” Sebastian rolled his eyes. “But I don’t.”

“You sure?” Anthony furrowed his brows. “'Cause you lo-”

“Oh my God,” Sebastian growled under his breath. “Yes I’m sure.”

They all stopped asking, pressing their lips together. It was clear he needed something, but they didn’t know what. Of course Chris knew- not because he knew Sebastian the best out of all the guys in the room, but because he had felt what Sebastian was feeling on his wedding day. He needed to see you then as much as Sebastian needed to see Ava now. It would’ve seemed ridiculous to anyone else considering he was going to see her in fifteen minutes, but Chris understood. Sebastian helped the two of you have an amazing moment before the wedding, the least Chris could do was get him to Ava. He pulled out his phone and texted you: “Seb needs to see Ava, think you can get her to the lighthouse?” The reply he got from you drew a chuckle from him: “I was just about to text you the same thing. Yes, we’re heading there now.”

“C'mon, Seb.” Chris placed both hands on Sebastian’s shoulders and started to steer him out of the room. “Trust me.” He said when Sebastian tried to fight his actions. “You need some air out by the lighthouse,” Chris spoke in a tone that Sebastian immediately understood; he bolted out the door. “We’ll be back before the wedding starts,” he assured all the confused faces in the room then ran after Sebastian.

Part 4C

Remember how Louis loves nautical themed things and his mom talked about how he’s always been obsessed with anything nautical,, so he probably always says cheesy things to Harry like “you anchor me babe” or “you’re the lighthouse that guides me home” and he probably shyly brought up the idea of nautical themed complementary tattoos with Harry, not sure if Harry would be 100% on board and being a little nervous himself because he didn’t really have tattoos at the time, then Harry’s eyes would begin to sparkle and he’d start nodding along with Louis and the nautical tattoos idea, and he’d even start tearing up because complementary tattoos are a big deal, so he’d pull Louis in and kiss his nose before saying “I love the idea baby, lets go tomorrow” before kissing him gently and lovingly, and Louis would smile fondly and peck him on the lips again before they head to bed and he mumbles out a “night haz” and Harry giggles back mumbling “night my little sailor”

Brain wouldn’t stop itself. Small drabble about Prompto arriving back in Lucis after the events of Episode Prompto and Chapter 13. Very, very mild spoilers for Episode Prompto. Enjoy!

Prompto x reader.

1071 words.

Your heart stopped when you saw them arrive.

You thanked the Gods for the lighting on the dock at Cape Caem, the only shining light in the current eternal darkness that engulfed your surroundings. You had been staying in Lestallum following the boys’ departure, aiding refugees and helping the city grow, and had received a phone call from Iris that your friends were on their way back from Gralea following Noctis being absorbed by the crystal. You had rushed over to see them as soon as you could, praying you would get back in time to see them arrive.

Prompt fill for my Follower Celebration! Will also be posted on Ao3 under Towards the Sky.

Guys. We’re finally here. This is prompt fill #20 in a little less than two weeks. That’s a hell of a lot of words. Thank you so much for sticking with me and thank you to those of you that joined me for the ride over the past two weeks, I promise there’s a lot more in the works and on the way. I hope you enjoy this one :)

Thank you so much to @melonbugg for inspiring me and working with me every single day, @galactic-davey for boosting my confidence on the daily, and @butteredonions for telling me to just do it.

Shiro didn’t care to know where he was; he could only focus on the feeling of the damp cloth against his forehead, the water dripping down his face, calming the heat that wracked his whole body. It was his lighthouse in the storm of his mind, one thing he could concentrate on that wasn’t pain, wasn’t confusion, wasn’t the rattle of his lungs. Even the light falling in through his closed lids was like a knife straight to his brain; he was afraid of opening them, of letting the knife twist in his skull. He focused on the blissful cold dabbed against his face, his neck, again and again.

“But you said ‘had’.” Connor said, his expression twisting in confusion.

Cutest In Game Roadhog

So this happened a little while ago while I was playing overwatch but it’s one of the best things that happened.

It was a skirmish on the lighthouse map of Ilios, and I go as Junkrat. I always go Junkrat because his laying down emote is such a clear sign of being friendly (and I’m always friendly in skirmish). After dying from an enemy tracer at spawn I leave by bombing myself up onto one of the building. That’s when I heard Roadhog coming.

I look over the side and we look at each other, say hi, and then he suddenly hooks me. He starts jumping up and down and I do the same. I start to wonder off and he follows after me. At one point I got too far from him and the sweetheart hooked me back in. Since this made me really low on health, when tracer came back she killed me immediately. Roadhog wasn’t happy. When I spawn back again, Roadhog was making his way back to spawn and started jumping and hooked me again when he saw me.

Sadly we both left for a game though and I forgot to add them as a friend. This was literally the damn cutest Roadhog ever. We need more of this pls 👍

          New Lamp - 7F00-0015-A2C7 - @deskmanic

I visited a while ago but I’m terrible at being timely on these things haha rip. ANYWAYS, even though you’re not going for a theme New Lamp really feels kinda homey to me. It’s simple yet still well thought-out and I can tell a lotta love was put into this. Honestly, it reminds me of when I first started playing ACNL, which is probably why I’m so fond (good memories and all that). I also love how everything matches color and texture-wise (like the brick paths, the brick house, the lighthouse, ect) and I always love seeing what people do with the basic flowers and bushes, ect.

Also, I love the natural feel to it (meaning how things aren’t strictly under a theme or kept to a grid, ect, it feels more organic is what I’m getting at). I know you mentioned at one point aiming for that and I think you nailed it.

Bonus pic of Lady being shady next to a pitfall (in one of my fave areas of ur town) that I predicted before leaping into with glee:

iamlooking4wonderland  asked:

Hey, other than the podcasts you listed on the description which ones do you hear? (Do you hear any other podcasts?) I'm always looking for podcasts I haven't heard about

Hey! I actually need to update that list, I’ve listened to loads more! The podcasts I’m subscribed to are:

Mabel (supernatural: strange things start happening in a house and Anna gets caught up in it all. A really unique style, I love it!)

The Far Meridian (if you aren’t listening to this, you need to. Peri lives in a lighthouse, and one day, it starts changing location at random. While trying to deal with her own problems, she ends up helping others. Super sweet and cute and amazing! Also, so many guest cameos. So many.)

Darkest Night (A LOT of body horror. Idek how to describe this but it’s quite gruesome, but the story is good!)

Limetown (A mystery in which Lia tries to figure out what happens to Limetown. It’s really good, and if you like the black tapes, you’ll love this.)

Under Pressure (from the same network that created The Strange Case of Starship Iris. Really funny, and features Zach Valenti of Wolf 359! I won’t say as who, though. 😏)

LUCYD (Irish and amazing. Lucy starts having strange dreams. It ties into Celtic mythology and is so good!!)

Wooden Overcoats (if I’m in a bad mood or need cheering up, this is what I listen to. It’s really really funny. Two rival funeral directors in a village that’s very nearly a town!)

focused.af (this isn’t an audio drama, but I’d still recommend it. Zach Valenti did a daily podcast for 60 days, and it’s really enjoyable.)

The Strange Case of Starship Iris (so much representation. It’s unfortunately on hiatus, but what is on their feed is really good! It follows a space pirate crew.)

And then, everything that’s on my blog description. Enjoy!!

Where to start reading Mera?

Now the unfortunate thing with Mera is even though she’s been since 1963 there isnt that many amazing stories showcasing her and how awesome she is and her powers, she’s mostly been protrayed as a victim or doormat. Surprisingly since Blackest Night/Brightest Day where she had a prominent role we have seem some improvement in this and also the New 52 has been good with Mera, lets hope for this to continue.

Lets start like always with the first appearance Aquaman v1 #11 then continue on with

  • Aquaman v1 #18 (wedding of Arthur and Mera)
  • Aquaman v1 #22
  • Aquaman v1 #23 (birth of Arthur Jr)
  • Aquaman v1 #58-60
  • Justice League of America Vol 1 #243
  • Aquaman v3 1-4
  • Aqauman v5 #12-15
  • Blackest Night
  • Brightest Day
  • Young Romance: A New 52 Valentine’s Day Special “The Lighthouse”
  • Aquaman New 52 (especially issues #1, 6, 13, 15, 17 20)
  • Justice League v2 #15, 17 Throne of Atlantis

and also Dan Jurgens’ arc wasnt too bad with Mera so if you wanna check out that also its Aquaman v5 #63-75 just remember to read it before Blackest Night.

Like always if you have any questions or need links to any of these comics just let me know :)

I Went Lickety-Splitly

Someone I loved was dying on the east cost while I was busy doing nothing in the midwest but getting drunk and talking to freshmen about semiotics. I wanted desperately to see her as much as I could before it happened, so I drove. A lot. Every month or so for much of 2002, in my car fourteen hours between Indiana and Rhode Island.

My grandfather gave me his old Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight the summer after college. Big bench seat across the front in maroon velour, dashboard deep as my arm. After my last class I’d kiss my girlfriend goodbye and go buy something from a friend. Didn’t matter what, so long as it would keep me up and I didn’t have to do anything more than swallow it with my coffee. Then I’d point myself down the one road heading up to Indianapolis and drive. It’d start to get dark in Ohio, really dark in Pennsylvania.

Somewhere over the border into Pennsylvania, for no reason I ever discerned, there’s a lighthouse sitting up on a bluff overlooking the highway. Rolling hills on every horizon, the occasional mountain, forests dark and deep, nearest shoreline hundreds of miles away. Maybe it’s a kitschy motel or fishing supplies store. I could look it up, but I won’t. I like the mystery of it, the memory of it on the horizon, always a surprise, confused with a streetlight a couple times first, then there it is. When I finally passed it — and it went by fast; it’s up there then you’re next to it then it’s nothing but a weak halo smudged against black — right there I’d pull out Closing Time from the CD book on the passenger seat, roll down the windows, light another cigarette, and sing.

“Ol’ 55” is among the best driving songs pop music has to offer. I mean that literally — the song’s about driving, at least at the surface:

And now the sun’s comin’ up
I’m ridin’ with Lady Luck
Freeway, cars, and trucks
Stars beginning to fade, and I lead the parade
Just a-wishin’ I’d stayed a little longer…

The melancholy riding shotgun in there certainly didn’t hurt. I was high, chain smoking, speeding through one of the most boring stretches of American highway on my way to visit a dying teenager. It was comforting to sing along with a man in love whisked from a warm bed back into his life, car lights flicking past us both, realizing the speed at which time moves and lives fade. It was comforting and simple to play the opening piano line on that big dashboard, to sing the chorus out the open window, a cigarette clenched between my teeth and my hands banging out the drum line on the steering wheel like every shitty movie cliché ever filmed. There was a lightness to it, a levity in the pitch-thick malaise of that year. It was comforting and simple when so little else was allowed to be.

Sea of Love

“Faster,” Scully yelled while gasping for air.

“I’m going as fast as I can,” Mulder panted, beads of sweat on his forehead.

“I’m almost there, are you coming?” she yelled as she checked up on him.

“Not so loud, you’ll draw attention,” he hissed.

“Just come,” she hissed back.

“Right here,” he suddenly said into her ear.

Mulder was now inches from Scully’s side and he quickly grabbed her hand while they ran as fast as they could through the dark forest. This was not how he’d imagined their first real date.
