israeli pride

Not something to skip over...

Today, a few boys and a teacher supervisor in Israel were traveling from their seminary yeshiva, Ashreinu, to Tel Aviv to deliver food to soldiers. On the way there, a Palestinian drove his car head on into their van and proceeded to shoot at them.
Ezra Schwartz, an 18 year old American from Massachusetts taking a gap year in Israel, was killed along with a 51 year old Israeli man and, accidentally, a 40 year old Palestinian man.
In the van with Ezra was an 18 year old boy also on a gap year named Jojo Harari. I know Jojo. He went to my school. He’s only a year older than me and everyone knows everyone in my school. Thank god, he wasn’t hurt. But he witnessed this attack on his friend. I spoke to him after it happened, and I asked if he was okay. He told me, “physically, yeah, but mentally, I feel like I’m going to puke.” He said that he saw he terrorists face just seconds before the car was struck.
Attacks like these on Israelis, on Jews, are a daily occurrence. Things like this happen all the time in Israel, yet people still advocate for the Palestinians to get what they want. They still advocate for a one state solution where Palestine is the only victor. They still demonized and deny Israel’s right to exist. They still hold Israel to a double standard against all other nations.
This has to stop.
We need to stand up and we need to end the terror and oppression against Israeli citizens.
My father was born is Israel. I LOVE Israel. I am proud to be a Jew and I will never hesitate to say that. I will wear my title with pride and I will continue to stand up for what I believe in. And I will continue to stand up against brutality and abuse. And I will continue to stand up for justice.
And I will always stand up for the truth.

Okay, I feel as if I need to weigh in on this whole Boston thing and “terrorism” situation, as I have rather strong feelings about what’s going on, being a middle-eastern American.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s very tragic what has happened the past few days and the lives that were lost and changed forever.

But what. Really. Pisses. Me. Off. Is the racial profiling going on.

As if it didn’t already happen enough. Every single time I travel, I’m pulled aside by airport security to double-check my bags and/or pat me down. Every single time. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Because of my name. Because that, and that ALONE, is proof enough to Airport Security that they need to double-check my bags and body to make sure I’m not going to kill anyone.

“Oh, yeah, but I mean, the 9/11 terrorists were middle eastern, so America is just trying to be careful that that doesn’t happen again”. SHUT UP. Remember that white guy that shot 30 kids in Connecticut? America didn’t start discriminating against white guys with guns after that. Gun control laws are virtually the same as they were before 30 children died.

And now, the “SUSPECTS” that law enforcement has picked out from the Marathon crowd, ARE ONLY SUSPECTS, BECAUSE THEY ARE MIDDLE EASTERN.

They were doing exactly the same thing as every white person in that crowd, except they happened to not be white. THAT. IS. NOT. PROBABLE. CAUSE. TO. ACCUSE. SOMEONE. And now millions of Americans are tweeting, posting Facebook statuses, and updating whatever other social networking site with extremely derogatory, ignorant, racial comments about middle-eastern people being terrorists.

Because law enforcement and other political powers are setting the example to be racist and make assumptions such as the one mentioned above.

It really makes me fucking sick.

Me: *threw a pillow at my TV to express my anger when the Israeli Olympic team were waving the Israeli flag and priding a state that killed members of my family and caused my family and people suffering and pain*
