I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don’t feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid’s runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are— particularly when it’s difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain (“I’m not a big one for paying compliments…”), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. For a moment life suddenly feels lighter, a bit more Gene Kelly dancing in the rain.

OMG!! I am so honored… such a lovely art piece.. so grateful for your kind words that my art has been inspirational… music to my heart and soul… thank you so much for this honor solushospes

I’m honored to have you as a follower and I love following your blog, which sates the beach-baby in me who misses the beach life. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but I think your blog is awesome and even moreso with those gems you paint yourself. I really do love your style, there’s a freedom in it that reminds me of when I taught art classes and watched my students pour their hearts into their projects, and there was always at least one; the one who wasn’t looking for brownie points and didn’t ask me if it was any good, the one who knew what they wanted to put on their canvas and that small and private smile in the end always conveying they’d done it. I suppose, your work makes me feel like that. Success. Every time. Even if I don’t know why. <3

When I visit Florida next, I think I might pass through and pitstop at the Castle, I’d like to give you a heads up and buy one of your paintings if you ever sell them. :) I think many of them would be great in the heart of the home (the kitchen of course).

Sammie-Sampson, my dear friend.

It took me 3 months of patient kindness with this lovely but wild bush kitty to get him able to tolerate direct human contact. What a meaningful project he was for me. And out of those 3 months of patient devotion to helping him emotionally heal whatever trauma he experienced by humans, he is the most loving lap cat imaginable.

People aren’t as beautiful as they look, as they walk, or as they talk. They are only as beautiful as they love, as they care, and as they share
