island fusion

I find it very interesting that the Ruby Squad pre-fusion deliberately has this formation as their fusion dance. With Leggy at the base (leg gem), Army at the left periphery (left arm gem), Navy at the right periphery, but her gem is at bellybutton level (naval gem), Doc at the centre (chest gem), and Eyeball at the top (eye gem).

To me this indicates an awareness of their different roles, as was discussed in the Ruby Squad posts. And it emphasises that there really is something about gem placement that Homeworld gems are aware of. Fusion dances are a way for the components of a fusion to get in sync, because mind and movements have to fit one another. This means that within the matrix of their squad, the Rubies have found a place for themselves that also matches their gem placement.

I say this because fusions don’t necessarily have to have the component gems in the areas of where their gems are (and by extension, where their gems end up on the fusion). For instance, when forming Alexandrite in Super Watermelon Island, Pearl and Amethyst, whose gems are centre-aligned are to the peripheries, while Garnet with her peripheral gems is in the middle, showing that gems don’t have to fusion dance in the position of their gemstones on the fusion.

One of the things that I LOVE about having a complete Crystal Gem triad fusion flow chart is, like, LOOKING at how it visually just makes sense…

Like, Alexandrite - Garnet = Opal (not illustrated). You can SEE it, in the way her hair becomes longer and more flowy, and her shades/visors are removed, and her shoulders become narrower, and her colors lighten and become slightly cooler…

IT’S LIKE ONE BIG VISUAL EQUATION BUT WITH GAY FEM NONBINARY SPACE ROCK MOMS INSTEAD OF NUMBERS AND I LOVE IT.

CURSE YOU REBECCA FOR MAKING ME LIKE EQUATIONS.
