Staffa and Fingal’s cave, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. Photos taken last week, when we had the chance to spend a few hours on the island.
Staffa is an entirely volcanic island, probably best known for its
unique geological features such as the many caves and the unique shape
of the basalt columns which are also found in the Giant’s Causeway and
Rathlin island in Northern Ireland and, closer by, on the island of Ulva.
It consists of a basement of tuff, underneath colonnades of a black
fine-grained Tertiary basalt, overlying which is a third layer of
basaltic lava lacking a crystalline structure. By contrast, slow cooling
of the second layer of basalt resulted in an extraordinary pattern of
predominantly hexagonal columns which form the faces and walls of the
when te fiti has her heart, it’s assumed she can gift life to anything, right? well imagine this:
te fiti is really greatful after maui apologizes. she knows from past personal experience how stubborn he can be, so she does a little bit more for him than just fixing his fish hook for him
after he leaves moana to sail herself home he’s flying around when a small island he doesn’t recognize from the sky catches his attention.
curious, he lands on it and looks around at this beautiful lush green island just blooming with plant life. it confuses him that he’s never seen this island before because he knows for sure he would’ve remembered pulling up something so beautiful until he stumbles upon this large boulder with famaliar looking carvings on it and it just hits him all at once
this was his island.
Te Fiti took what used to be a pile of boulders and wiltering plants and restored it to the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.
she didn’t just fix what he valued most
she took this place he was trapped on for a thousand years, this place he thought he hated, and she used it to give him a home.
The Apostle Islands are a group of 22 islands, located in the largest lake in the United States, Lake Superior. The islands are famous for their sea caves, most notably those on the mostly uninhabited Devils Island. Kayakers can meander freely in and out of the caves. As popular as the caves are in summer, they are also popular in the winter, when the caves ice over, and the stalactites crystallize.
This place might not look real, but it is. Koufinisia is a small group of two islets in Greece, which are separated by a 200m wide strait. The name means ‘hollow islands’, because their huge caves make the islands look hollow from a distance. Only one of the islands is populated, but they share the incredible golden sands and clear, turquoise waters that make this beach so special. Discover more about Greece here.
When Julian returned to his hometown, his family was overjoyed to see him alive and well. Although they were a little surprised to see Mira, she received a warm welcome, especially after Julian told everybody that she saved his life. After the inevitable legal squabble that arose from bringing a grown woman with no bureaucratic identity into the country, Julian and Mira got married. It took a while for Mira to learn everything about life in the extrainsular world, but she adapted really well. After some years the couple wrote a bestselling book about Mira’s ancestors and how the two of them had met.
The Island remained home to the Deer, the Raccoon and the Weatherstone.
