Hey what are some of your hcs for benny? How does he feel about his tribal past vs his time in the strip? Does he have any embarrassing hobbies or habits? What's his relationship to 1) swank and 2) the courier? I just followed you recently btw and your art is so good it's like Polished and Clean, good clean lines and good colour composition, beautiful

OH BOY NOW YOU’VE DONE IT! I have a lot of Benny head canons and most of the Benny lovers that are following me will disagree because I tend to make everything cute, sweet, heartwarming and Disney but hey, I am soft like that I don’t need more sadness and heartbreak in my life!

  • Benny and Swank grew up together as part of the Boot Riders. And as I head canon them, for no particular logical reason, the Boot Riders had a part of the tribe for men and another one for the women. Hence why we don’t see Chairmen ladies. Not because they weren’t programmed in the game, or anything. Hey the White Glove society and Omertas have women I do have a lot of ground to stand on here! 
  • Benny and Swank were boyfriends up until they went to Vegas when Benny let all that luxury and fame go to his head and became distant and unbearable. 
  • Benny gets his Gecko title from having a gecko “pet” in his Boot Rider days. This is a Disney head canon sponsored by me! Her name is Assmaster or Baby and she is very big.
  • Benny and Swank absolutely got into all sorts of trouble in their youth and it was most Benny- thinks of a terrible idea that will get them some profit, Swank - thinks it wont work but goes with it, the Idea - obviously doesn’t work and both get in trouble, and in the end they somehow get out of trouble and learned a valuable lesson! Until Benny gets another “great idea” the next day and it’s all over again. 
  • Benny has a scar across his shoulder and left side of his chest from Bingo. That was the first strike when Bingo cut him before he retaliated in seconds and killed Bingo by stabbing him in the neck. 
  • Benny didn’t instantly try to fight Bingo but he tried to reason with him and the tribe at first. He didn’t know he will get them all to play dress up but he did know that House offered food and medicine and shelter they so desperately needed. And when he was met with resistance from Bingo, it was Bingo who challenged him and Benny obliged. 
  • Benny is conflicted about his tribal past life and that is very much noticeable at how angry and upset he gets when he thinks the Chairmen are slipping back to that kind of lifestyle. Because he is afraid he too will go back to the old ways. He is just unaware that is those old ways that make him who he is, that helped him get where he is. Whenever he uses all the skill he acquired in his days of travelling the Mojave, he is successful (getting Yes Man, tracking down the Courier, almost making it into Caesar’s camp) and whenever he is using his “Vegas” skills he majorly fucks up (you can use all his fancy Vegas stuff such as his cigarettes and lighter to prove to Swank that he tried to kill you, he can be killed at the Tops because he tries to pull some 50s mobster double cross like deal or because he sleeps with the person that he shot and he gets caught by Caesar because of his hair). Vegas life is a disadvantage and his old ways save his ass and make him succeed at the things he does. If only he too could see that and stopped playing pretend as House wants.
  • Benny, after being spared by the Courier probably feels a bit of regret - not care for the Courier unless they are a thing, but regret he fucked up the good thing he had, that he let his family down and he can never go back to the Chairmen. He forgot the family values that kept them together for so long, honesty, honor and most of all goodness. Which leads me to the point below–
  • Unpopular opinion but I think Benny is good. I mean obviously killing the Courier and the Singer from his tribe is evil, but I don’t think he is evil - not by  Wasteland standards. I think his heart is in the right place, he obviously hates on the Omertas and the Legion because they are rapists and slavers, he is reasonably creeped out by their cannibal next door neighbors and he is one of the rare characters openly hating on the NCR because to the tribes of the Mojave, the NCR is no better than the Legion, and as a ex-tribesman he probably knows this better than most.
  • Embarrassing hobbies or habits - I mean aside from trying to imitate 50s rat pack slang? He probably tries to sing too but that really doesn’t work out for him. Doesn’t stop him from humming when he is walking around and I believe his pals and bodyguards are getting a bit tired of it. Oh and he is terrible at flirting, he thinks he is very good and smooth at it, but he is terrible and people are laughing behind his back for it. 
  • As for the Courier, I don’t know there are a lot of very shitty Benny/Courier ships so I only like selected few (read: m!courier/Benny) otherwise I prefer couriers who don’t kill him, just let him go and finish the job that he didn’t. It feels more satisfactory to have him be alive and see the Courier do what he couldn’t. And you know, seeing how he tried to help them when he thought he will die I think it’s rather bittersweet. It will hurt obviously, but he got outplayed and made peace with it. 
  • If Benny is on good terms with the courier he does return to Vegas after few months and will need to fix his broken relationship with Swank, Tommy and the other Chairmen if he wants to be manager of the Tops. However even when they forgive him, they won’t trust him the way they used to and that is the price he will be paying for the rest of his life.
  • Benny still loves Swank and if he doesn’t get with the Courier, he will probably have a off and on relationship with Swank. A bit of Vegas in it and a lot more of the good old days.

Yes ok of course, PR is not show running and the Cas stuff is just interpretative (imo that Cas is slowly and only partly back at first fits my spec that either he will be gone for a long long time or he’ll be not-himself for a while in order to fight out of it, for Dean and Sam to teach Jack about free will and Cas to choose it himself and fight out of his depression and find his self worth (perhaps linked to Jack himself but also Sam and Dean’s fighting for him), linking too to @super-sootica ’s meta that Jack might bring Cas back as not himself, without his agency because he believe he is helping Cas by taking away his pain, because 12x10, 12x12 and 12x19 have key elements that all foreshadow this and it fits Cas’ personal arc).

But! The fact that we are told they pick up where they left off and Sam is all logical re: Jack whereas Dean is angry and wants to kill him?

THAT is excellent :)

Again, this part now is just speculative but it just totally fits my spec that Dean will be so angry and distraught that he might push Jack towards the darkness to start with himself, of course not meaning to, but that might be the catalyst for Jack’s initial “bad” choices / actions. The nature / nurture aspect being key then having to counter this later on to get him back onside and win him back to the light. Thereby mirroring Sam’s story.

Also therefore showing the difference between the HEART and the HEAD reactions as is said in canon and as we always say comes into it re: Cas between the brothers and shows Dean’s feelings as stronger and more romantic. In a season that we expect will textualise things more on this account it seems to be literally the first thing that happens and the first and main point of the first episode.

With the 5 stages of grief being denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, this snippet of info is definitely a great way to start the season

Red & Blue Connection Theory

Be warned there’s gonna be Voltron s3 spoilers in here!! So if you don’t want to see that, look elsewhere. (Also this is super fucking long, I’m sorry.) 

Anyway so I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and what with (at least temporary) Red Paladin!Lance being confirmed, now is probably the time to post this.

Coincidentally, I’ve been spending the past couple weeks looking for foreshadow of the Red and Blue Lions have some kind of Special Connection and there is quite a bit, so I thought I’d share some of what I’ve found.

The gist of it is that I think Red and Blue have some kind of connection that the other lions don’t seem to have with each other. Of course all the lions have a special bond, but there seem to be a lot of hints that the connection between Red and Blue *coughs* and their pilots is something a little different––basically, that Lance and Keith have shown a lot more interest in/connection to each other’s lions than any of the other paladins have.

(And before everyone jumps down my throat, I’m NOT proposing a permanent lion switch so jot that down lol. But I do think temporary lion switches are Good so uhhhh fight me.)

I’m not sure how to go about explaining this, but I’m just gonna break it down to:

- Keith’s connection with Blue

- Lance’s connection with Red

- What Does It Mean

Here we go!!!

Keith & Blue

- I’m still caught up on this whole “Keith sensed the Blue Lion” thing. Granted, it could have something to do with his alien abilities™ (I’m still rooting for Keith with Altean ancestry, y’all) but I still question the choice of having Keith sense Blue, of all the lions. He only detects the location of two lions in canon, and they’re––you guessed it––Blue and Red. 

First we have some kinda vague “energy” that attracts Keith to Blue:

Then we have this part where Keith just … closes his eyes and senses Red somehow??

(These both happen in the first episode, I might add.)

Like I said, this could be some kinda sixth alien sense. But, I do also wonder if it was Blue trusting & calling out to Keith specifically, which is interesting considering he’s not even her paladin.

- Also in the first episode, when they find Blue, Keith & Lance are the first ones to approach her. Keith even reaches Blue before Lance does!

And then they’re both standing right in front of Blue, side-by-side, when she wakes up.

There is still a close-up on Lance when Blue awakens––but even so, everyone else has much more of a one-on-one first interaction with their lion, so this scene in particular stands out to me.

- Other than in the first episode we don’t get much of Keith interacting with Blue in s1 (except for him saving Blue for Lance in s1e06, which is cute!)

But then there’s also this moment in s2 where he starts asking Coran about whether there might have been Galra on earth before, and whether that could have something to do with Blue being on Earth:

Which is especially interesting now that we know that Keith is part Galra. So …. is it possible the previous Blue Paladin might’ve been Galra?? or even could have been an ancestor of Keith’s?

Then of course we have Lance emerging from his room at the mention of Blue, and accusing Keith of “having his eye on the Blue Lion since day one”:

This is … kinda odd considering Keith hasn’t outwardly shown any desire to pilot Blue as far as I can remember. So, obviously this is a throwback to the very first episode in which Keith first sensed Blue––and the fact that it was brought up again out of nowhere makes me suspicious that there’s Something there that hasn’t quite been addressed yet.

Lance & Red

- *rubs hands together* Now this is Extra Fun because now I know for a fact Lance is gonna fly the Red Lion at some point in s3 because it was in the trailer and all …

Unfortunately I don’t get to say “I told you so” because I didn’t publish this post before then, but anyway! I’ve been looking for foreshadow of this and honestly?? If you ask me, there are hints of Red Paladin!Lance since the very first episode. (Again, I’m not suggesting Lance becomes Red Paladin forever, so please don’t kill me. But I do think Lance having some kind of connection with Red has been foreshadowed.)

- So!! In the first episode I noticed that when Allura assigns each of them a lion, she doesn’t technically assign Blue to Lance (because he interrupts her, lol). It’s just kind of assumed that he’s Blue Paladin since, well, he’s flown Blue. Now, I’m not saying he’s not the Blue Paladin––he is! Buuut I also find a couple things about this scene Intriguing:

1) Lance looks like he almost expects to be assigned the lion as Allura describes it (even though he already has a lion), and then seems a bit shocked/upset when it gets assigned to Keith instead.

2) Not only that, but you may notice the Red Lion hovers between BOTH of them, which is noteworthy because this doesn’t happen to anyone else when they get their lion assigned to them. Hmmmmmm…

- This may be an unpopular opinion but I actually … also think Lance shows some Red Paladin traits. Once again, that’s not to say that Lance doesn’t also fit into the role of Blue Paladin because of course he does, but I do think he shows traces of being capable of being Red Paladin as well.

Like listen, when Allura is assigning Red, these are her exact words: “The Red Lion is temperamental and the most difficult to master. … Its pilot needs to be someone who relies more on instincts than skill alone.”

So really the only qualifications here are: 1) Be skilled. 2) Have good instincts.

And Lance?? Fits those qualifications pretty damn well. He’s a skilled pilot, sharpshooter, and strategist. And he has very strong awareness/instincts as well (i.e. being able to identify the Rover clone super fast, being able to come up with a plan on the Balmera on the fly, etc.). There’s no reason why he can’t fly Red if you ask me.

- Also, when the Red Lion gets fire power for the first time Lance is like, “I want that!!” which is interesting … especially because (at least as far as I can remember) no one else expresses jealousy for another paladin’s lion that way.

And generally I just find it kinda funny that Lance accuses Keith of having his eye on the Blue Lion when Lance has like…canonically had his eye on the Red Lion from pretty early on. 

- In addition to all of the above, there does seem to be some foreshadow about Keith getting separated from Red (at least temporarily). i.e. he has that dream about Red rejecting him.

And there’s also that vision he has in BoM where Red is far away from him.

(Tag yourself I’m the people screaming.)

Could be coincidental …. or could be intentional to foreshadow something about a certain someone else temporarily taking over as Red Paladin.

- And lastly: it may not mean anything, but in GoLion (the original anime) Isamu/Lance was Red Paladin … So, could be a nod to the original!

And yes, he wore a blue outfit but piloted the Red Lion, don’t question it. Color coordination hadn’t been invented yet. 

What Does It Mean?!

- In general, there seems to be a lot of subtle foreshadow that there is Some kind of connection between the Red and Blue lions––or at least, to an extent, Keith and Lance have connections to each other’s lions as well as their own.

- It could mean they are both capable of piloting each other’s lions. I’ll say it again––I’m not suggesting a permanent lion swap or anything along those lines, because both paladins also have very strong connections to their own lions. (Also, I’m not sure about Blue Paladin!Keith at this point, although it’s hard to say since we don’t really know what the quintessence of the Blue Lion is yet.)

However, I think in certain situations their lions could be accepting of the other’s paladin (which of course we know is possible since Keith has piloted Black before, and in the s3 trailer it appears he does so again, as well as Lance piloting Red). So, I feel like that could be important.

- As for the reason behind this connection: It could be because their elements balance each other out (you know, the whole fire-and-ice thing), but what I’m really hoping is that there is some significance in the relationship between the previous Red & Blue Paladins (interpret that however you want––but yeah like, maybe they were good friends??? or …. more than that????) and their lions built up a strong connection because of that (or vice versa).

- TL;DR: I think it’s pretty much inevitable that Red & Blue/Keith & Lance have some kind of special connection (space ranger partners™ amiright) and if you ask me there are a lot of signs pointing in that direction. That’s all, bye.

Okay so my sister and I were discussing this mess last night and then we ended up seriously considering a theory I have seen come up a few times but now I’m gonna walk you through it

Here it is: 

It’s all a lie – Yousef lied Mikael lied. They are lying.

Yousef said that Even kissed Mikael which caused Mikael to be distant and Even to hate himself..

Well tell me Yousef

If Mikael is so ashamed, then why does he bring up Evens name? and why is he laughing when he does?

and why are you Yousef looking so mad and sad and guilty?

Why does Yousef have a pride flag next to his message to Sana?

Why does he say Mikael is super religious when he clearly isn’t that religious because he drinks

why does Elias declare Yousef as the “most Muslim person he knows”

Why was the Even thing big enough to impact Yousef so much but not Mikael?

Why does Yousef avoid the fight and send Sana off into it alone?

Why does he go and kiss the first girl he sees after witnessing the fight with Even and his new crew?

I think you know where I’m going with this: Yousef is questioning his sexuality and is ashamed of it. Him and Even kissed which caused a lot of disaster with Even and when it was threatened to come out to everyone and the balloon boys Mikael took the fall for Yousef. Mikael stepped up and pretended it was him that Even kissed.

What could possibly hint that Mikael would do something like that for Yousef?

Remember that youtube video where they went to Mikaels job interview and Yousef took Mikael aside and they had a secret conversation?

this wasn’t there for no reason. This was almost foreshadowing that Yousef and Mikael have secrets, they have each others backs. They share a special connection.

Now this is what we’re thinking. Did Yousef see Even and panic? Did he see that the truth could come out right in front of everyone? Was he frightened?
Remember we saw him go up to Elias and looking outside.

What if…what if Yousef somehow started the fight to avoid the truth…to make sure nothing slipped about what actually happened and that’s why when it did start he ran off sent Sana out to stop it and kissed the first girl in sight…proving he is straight.

Also he kisses Noora similar to how Isak kissed Emma

The girls hands wrapped around their necks while they have their hands by their sides. Both boys wearing snapbacks backwards and standing on the same side.

I know this seems far fetched but maybe this is the twist we have been waiting for.

The trailer is reversed – this season is reversed and as we saw Friday night, it is the roles that are truly reversed. Just like I’ve been saying Mikael and Yousef are reversed this whole time.

Is Yousef truly the Mikael in this story and Mikael is the Yousef?

Omg if Julie does this my mind is literally going to be blown apart.

(Side note: to clarify I am not saying this is going to happen - it’s a theory, nor do I personally believe this will happen. I have just had this theory been addressed with me by multiple people (including my irl sister) and I wanted to outline why this theory is actually totally plausible and could be done and actually hinted in the show already….Do I think Julie will go down this route? no but could she? hell yeah.)

ok so you know how every time shiro mentions not making it, and keith just panics? closes up and immediately cuts him off? the thought of losing shiro is clearly upsetting, but i dont think shiro realizes just how much this affects keith until bom 

becuase the last time shiro talks about it is here 

right before they reach the base of marmora. 

which means, after seeing keith’s hallucination of all this 

he never mentions leaving him again. 

and while you can say that shiro and keith both see each other at their lowest points, there’s definitely something that feels more vulnerale about shiro peering into keith’s mind. and not only that, but the fact that he directly sees how keith views him. its this intrusion on a deeply personal, intimate moment. and honestly, i think keith seeing something similar from shiro’s perspective would be the only thing to put them on equal footing 

we already know the black lion can use the astral plane to project zarkon’s memories. so i think, once keith takes over, it will probably share some of shiro’s. of course, part of why bom is so painful is because shiro is privy to these moments against keith’s will. this isnt something hes sharing voluntarily. so as a counter to that, i would hope their link with black lion would allow shiro to reach out to him and share memories in a mutually agreed upon way 

So the beautiful Hikaru reunites with Demora and Ben gif set has landed on my dash once again and as I was staring at it, I noticed something…

While Demora goes to run into Hikaru’s arms, I noticed something in Ben’s hand. It’s not really apparent until you see the scene where Hikaru lifts Demora up and holds her close:

Right there, smack in the middle of the screen visually is this:

That is right, a stuffed toy in the shape of the Enterprise.

Such a small, cute domestic detail that one spouse holds the child’s toy as the kid goes to greet the other parent.

But also, not only does it speak volumes, I want to know everything about it. Demora is at a grown enough age as a child to have one of those objects that she brings around everywhere. And her’s is a stuffed ship. How does she play with it? Does she pretend to be captain? Does she imagine adventures of her dad being captain? Is the ship even named the Enterprise? Did Hikaru give it to her or is it something she wanted or something Ben gave her, I just… 

All the answers. Need. I need them.

Okay guys that chat was just a chat but daaaamnn it spoke volumes. 

The clip yesterday indicated very much that Sana is feeling a little left out from her girl squad…like she is having trouble relating with them all of a sudden? 

I couldn’t help but notice that her entire demeanour with the boys changed when she was with the girls.

and it breaks my heart that she’s feeling uncomfortable and a little distant from her friends. 

I feel like the shot we saw before she entered the room implied this kind of distance as well. 

Sana hovers in the doorway for a moment, almost like she’s observing another world, like she is preparing herself. By us viewing the girl squad from over her shoulder we get a true feel of the distance that Sana must be feeling. 

After details like offering Sana pizza with meat on it and discussing sex in detail, we become further aware of the small things that make her feel a little different to her friends and I think it is building up inside her. This kind of loneliness, like no one understands her and she’s scared and not sure how to try and make them understand, how to relate. 

ahhhhh and then that chat, how the girls just ignored her when talking about Vilde being the only one who hadn’t had a boyfriend before. I know they didn’t intend it but to Sana it would feel almost like she didn’t counted? Like her faith suddenly took her out of the equation. She no longer became valid. I know it’s just a small thing but as we know with skam, these small things count and build up. 

I feel like something big is brewing for Sana and ahhhhh I can’t wait to see how this all unfolds <3

After all these years, the thing that still gets me about Hannibal is the idea that someone could see all of someone else’s messy inner workings and still want them - and it’s even more than that, it’s the idea that someone could want someone else because of their messy inner workings.

This seems like such an insane and unrealistic thing to me, but isn’t that exactly what we all want in life? Just to be seen and understood and wanted, not in spite of yourself, but because of exactly who you are?

Like, shit, can you even imagine someone knowing about the awful way you organize your sock drawer, or how you actually take your pizza when you’re only ordering for yourself, or what your workout playlist looks like, or the way you threw on up on the staircase in front of everyone in the fourth grade, or the secret stash of Velveeta you keep in the pantry, or the recurring dream you have about getting lost in a nail salon, or your permanent and unabiding fear that love is fake and everyone’s been lying to you this whole time - can you even imagine someone knowing all that stuff about you, and still wanting you in every way? Damn, that’s some heavy shit.

Anime vs Manga: Two different portrayals of Erwin Smith

SPOILER WARNING!! spoilers from the last episode and major ones from the manga.

This post will focus on ep12 s2, “Scream” and ch51

Erwin Smith, 13th Commander of the Survey Corps. Hope of Mankind. The man who caught the Female Titan, saved Eren from Reiner and Bertolt, tore down a corrupt government, lead a suicide charge against the Beast Titan and eventually cleared the path to the truth about the World. Determined, creating hope for a better World free from the Titans.

That’s the Commander we know him as. A true badass, not hesitating to sacrifice himself and his own goals for the greater good. And that’s the man we see in the anime adaption. But in the manga, we also see another side. The man Erwin, who jokes around and enjoy spending time with his friends. A man who can feel despare and is dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts, but keeps it secret from his dearest not to worry them. A man who feels a great guilt for the lives lost under his command.

The anime has chosen to change and cut some scenes showing the man Erwin is when he is not on the battle field shouting orders. This is especially seen in the last episode of season 2, “Scream”. We are talking about the last scene, where Erwin is lying in bed after losing his arm. In the manga, we get to see Levi, Erwin and Pixis having a relaxed conversation, joking around with each other. Also we here see the personal relationship between Levi and Erwin. They are not only colleges, but also close friends (remember that Erwin is to Levi what Eren is to Mikasa, but their relationship is a whole other post). Again, Erwin is more than a Commander, he is a normal human being with loved ones.

A moment that wasn’t cut, but changed, is when Erwin smiles after Hange telling their theory about titans being humans. The first part is the same; Levi asks why in hell Erwin is smiling, but Erwin’s answer is quite different from manga to anime… Look at these screencaps from “Scream”:

He is in his Commander mode, preaching hope to the people around them, promising them that the people lost will not have died in vain. But in the manga, he never has this speech:

In the manga, Erwin totally avoids answering and brushes it off with jokes. He isn’t the Commander at that moment. He is himself. The semi-creepy smile is often understood as coming from Erwin realising that his father’s theories about the titans are probably true (this hasn’t been in the anime yet, but we learn about Erwin’s motivation to join the Corps). His smile stems from a personal dream. Again this is Erwin as a person, not the Commander he is professionally. 

I am not sure why they changed this scene, because I see it as an important part for Levi and Erwin’s relationship and therefore also them as characters. Levi is starting to see sides of Erwin that he tries to hide. Erwin feels bad for having a dream for himself where he just wants to know if his father was right about the World. He feels as if he has had to devote his life to that because he was the one indirectly getting his father killed. He had to develop the theories further. All this about Erwin’s character is explained throughout the chapters after this, especially when he tells us about his childhood and when he thinks back on his life before sacrificing himself and the young soldiers. These moments has not been in the anime yet, so I cannot discuss about how they are gonna portray him then. But as an Erwin fan, I can only hope they will let us see more of him as a person.

Okay what is the conclusion? Erwin has more sides than being the Commander of the Survey Corps, an excellent leader whose vision of Freedom has inspired hundreds if not more to take action against the government and join the fight against the titans. But he is also a human with feelings of happiness, despare, guilt, hope. A man with emotions, who worries for his friends and does everything in his power not to let people die in vain. Erwin is complex. He is an interesting character with more sides than what most people in the series see. And I hope the anime will try and show the man he is in private, behind the facade.

(I love that it was Murphy who told Luna this. I have waited  Y E A R S  for this callback, because for non-casual fans it may be the obvious elephant in the room but it still needed to be vocalized. And I just think it was a really smart choice that Raven wasn’t the one to say it, not once when she lashed out at him, but it’s the first thing he says afterwards. She didn’t need to remind him, she is a constant reminder to him, as he is to her. And she doesn’t need to #expose him to Luna or Emori or anyone else – he’s nothing if not willing to lay his cards out and give people reasons not to like him.)

and as a live watcher i remember thinking “THEN WHEN ARE YOU OFFICIAL?” and ever since that chat and this photo I had been thinking…when is he going to post it. When is he going to become ‘official’ 

I half expected him to post it right before his season ended, almost as a “here i am and i am proud” photo but it didn’t happen. 

of course we still got a boyfriend selfie, but it didn’t hold the kind of significance this one does.

the moment he shares it with the world is the moment he accepts himself and finally is P R O U D of who he is and who he loves 

so now finally here we are. Isak has posted one of the photos taken along with the one above. People are asking “why an old photo? why not one of the many new ones i’m sure they have?….why not just take a new one?” 

Because 

he is finally proud of who he is and it is official.

Yuuri and Confidence  – from Start to Finish

So, I was just looking at this gif and had a thought. Look at how calmly Yuuri is listening to and taking in Victor’s words. This might not initially sound like anything special but what really hit me was the fact that he has neutral body language and expression. He’s listening.

Yuuri doesn’t have any over-the-top reaction to Victor’s proximity, tone of voice, or words. Especially considering what those exact words are, it really blows me away to realize how much this moment says about both their relationship development and Yuuri’s own self-confidence. Yuuri is able to truly take in the words and see the meaning behind them.

1 year, or even just 8 months, prior, there’s no way he could have reacted like this. There’s no way he could have had such a calm reaction to his idol speaking lowly in his ear while being in such close proximity and certainly no way he could have been able to sit there and listen to these words without feeling like they were some kind of insult to his person or dig at his skill level in comparison to Victor’s.

And, most of all, there’s no way he could have been holding Victor’s hand throughout the entire exchange.

Now, let’s compare it to a choice reaction from early on that covers all of those same points.

Even before Yuuri runs away, his expression and body language are completely different. Now, these are obviously two different situations, but the argument still stands. Yuuri has become comfortable in Victor’s presence.

Yuuri has gained confidence in both himself and his relationship with Victor; enough to put aside his feelings of idolization and see the situation for what it really is. Over the course of his time with Victor, they have grown close enough that Yuuri can see these words as the support they are intended to be, and see Victor as the person he is and not just the skater he looks up to.

On top of that, Yuuri has been able to gain the confidence in his skills to know that Victor is telling him that he can be better than this. Yuuri knows this now, not just dreams it under layers of anxiety and self-doubt, and takes the words as they are intended to be: a way to motivate him to push beyond any moment of doubt and be the best he can be.

Yuuri has achieved two of his longest-term goals, ones he never outright stated but were always there: building his own confidence and getting close to Victor. Through those successes, he also achieved one of the goals he did state, wanting to meet Victor as an equal.

And, as a cherry on top, over the course of the 9 months these two are together, the development of their relationship is so natural that it continues to amaze even to this day. They really do never cease to surprise us.

Okay, serious talking now. What would be the worst point in each paladin to attack. We know about Lance's insecurities, but what else? What about the others? I want to read your opinion because you do awsome meta and character analysis.

???????? Wow, thank you ;A; And I’m not sure if I can answer this well for all paladins but I’ll try^^ [tl;dr at the end because this post has gotten really long]


Let’s start with Lance. Lance honestly has many points to attack, which is probably why this fandom is so focused on langst. It’s easy to create content for that because we have so much to work with:

1. his insecurities about his role on the team and in general

I already wrote a lot about it here (and also here a little), desperately trying to figure out how strong these insecurities are but there is no doubt that they exist^^ Surprisingly, they actually seem to be very strong, to the point that fandom only exaggerates them slightly. Lance is just pretty good at hiding them.

2. homesickness

Lance is homesick. Really homesick. He’s homesick to the point that he would leave a party to hang out alone and get lost in his memories:

He is also the one that references his life on Earth the most often. “I missed 14 days for a stomachache in 3rd grade that I never really had”, “That’s the tagline of 6 of my favorite movies” - those are little things, not very important in the overall picture but they prove that he thinks back to his past. 

3. fear of death/unnatural things that are dangerous

Lance isn’t afraid of aliens, that’s not what I mean with it - I’m talking about the episode Crystal Venom where the castle was trying to kill him. Here is an analysis on how deeply that episode really disturbed him. As for his fear of dying - he is the one that has been confronted with death the most of all the paladins (excluding Shiro - but Shiro has lost/repressed lots of his traumatic memories). Here’s proof:

S1E1. He thought Hunk had died in the explosion when they were trying to retrieve the yellow lion. S1E4. The explosion nearly killed him - “you would have died if Hunk and Coran hadn’t gotten a new crystal” (Pidge, S1E6). S1E9. He almost got sucked out of an airlock. S2E2. The snake monster thingy got free of the stone and Lance was in the direct line of fire.

He was the one screaming “we’re gonna die, we’re gonna die!!” in S2E5 when they had to hold the lenses for the wormhole maker. Lance is scared of death not despite but because he knows it the best of all of them. He almost died multiple times and he saw his friends almost dying multiple times (the Hunk thingy I included above, when he saved Coran from the explosion, when he thought he had to save Coran in “Crystal Venom”, when Pidge in the cube episode got shot down and didn’t reply to them). Look at his reaction vs the reaction of the other paladins when they thought Allura had died:

They are all shocked and disbelieving, meanwhile Lance:

He’s neither shocked nor disbelieving, he’s just hurt. One of his deepest fears became reality and there is nothing he could do about it.

Okay but if shit went down between Mikael and Even

why is Mikael smiling when he brings Even up?

While the boys start shouting and booming with excitement, Mikael is grinning and Yousef?

Why is he looking so worried and freaked out while “my best buddy Even” Mikael is smiling and the rest of the boys are keen for the drama.

Why is Yousef being comforted because he is so quiet and angsty after Even is mentioned???

WHAT HAPPENED?

Is the Even bakka story to do with Mikael or Yousef?

because honestly it seems like Mikael and Even still talk and are buddies, while the boys find him an interesting conversation point.

But Yousef? Yousef becomes withdrawn and quiet as he starts thinking about something.

so again I ask WHAT HAPPENED?

And no I don’t think something necessarily happened with Mikael because they are friends who must still talk to each other and Mikael smiled when they talked about him. And honestly he wouldn’t have brought Even up if it was bad blood between them. It is a challenge but come on you never have to do something that makes you uncomfortable.

so finally one more time:

Lyanna Mormont & Feminism

I just have one tiny thing to say about Lyanna Mormont’s speech. I’ve seen quite a few people go after her for this particular line: 

“I don’t plan on knitting by the fire while men fight for me.”

A lot of people have said it was very anti-feminist and an insult to women, which I understand where they’re coming from, but Lyanna wasn’t mocking those women. She was mocking the rigid gender norms placed upon girls and women in her society. It was decrying the social construct that dictates women cannot fight their own battles and are only good for what society deems ‘feminine pursuits’. Lyanna’s speech was deconstructing what it meant to be female at that time and declaring that women do not need men to fight their battles for them; that they are perfectly capable of fighting their own battles. We, as modern day women, cannot define her speech by our understanding of feminism today. Feminist discourse would have been largely unheard of in that period of time. What women of that day value most is incomparable to what we as modern viewers value now. For such a toxic patriarchal society, giving women autonomy over their own futures, and thusly their own battles, was a far more needed pursuit. The comment about knitting by the fire was not to say those who do knit and enjoy it are weaker and thus unworthy of being a woman, but rather it was to decry these archaic gender roles placed upon them. Women are capable of far more than society has given them the chance to display. 

It’s completely unfair to view Lyanna’s speech through our twenty-first-century lenses because the circumstances are different. It’s the same argument we use when we apply feminist theory to literature. Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, if read through modern day goggles, would not be considered as groundbreaking a novel as it was at the time of its publication in 1847, but it very much was. 

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”

“Women are supposed to be very calm generally: but women feel just as men feel; they need exercise for their faculties, and a field for their efforts, as much as their brothers do; they suffer from too rigid a restraint, to absolute a stagnation, precisely as men would suffer.“

To us, these quotes would not be that powerful. As beautiful as the language is, the concept that women feel just as men feel is not revolutionary for us. But at the time, Bronte’s Jane Eyre was certainly revolutionary in its attempt to dismantle this cultural imposition on women over their need to be the passive and submissive “Angel in the House” (a concept of the penultimate feminine ideal described by Coventry Patmore in his poem published in 1854).

Imposing twenty-first-century notions of feminism on a culture that has yet to actually experience any wave or trickle of feminism is unfair. Contextually, Lyanna’s speech was for its time revolutionary and so was Jon’s decision to have both men and women fight. Even Sansa, who is not a fighter, acknowledges this by her smirk during the speech. It is not a slight towards those who are more domestic, but a slight towards culturally imposed notions of what it means to be feminine by men who see women’s worth as only mothers, caretakers and nurturers, without acknowledging them as a whole human that is far more complex than these strict roles allow them.

And for each woman, the question of femininity is always going to be different. For Lyanna, her fight has always been against those who underestimate her right to lead and the power she commands, and that is what she specifically addresses. There’s a famous conversation by lecturer and professor of literature and gender studies Ann Snitow in her 1989 essay ‘A Gender Diary’.

Her friend says in regards to the feminist movement: 

“Now I can be a woman; it’s no longer so humiliating. I can stop fantasizing that secretly I am a man, as I used to, before I had children. Now I can value what was once my shame.”

In contrast, Snitow said:

“Now I don’t have to be a woman anymore. I need never become a mother. Being a woman has always been humiliating, but I used to assume there was no exit. Now the very idea of ‘woman’ is up for grabs. ‘Woman’ is my slave name; feminism will give me freedom to seek some other identity altogether.”

It’s always been these contradicting ideologies that simultaneously fuels feminism as a movement and hinders it. Feminists for decades have struggled to reconcile both ways of thinking, but personally, I believe neither is wrong. For me, feminism is the freedom to believe in either. 

This is why I don’t see Lyanna’s speech as being particularly anti-feminist. Saying so is too black and white of a statement, which has never been something you can attribute to feminism. The movement itself is too nuanced, as are most movements.   

The Jacket™

okay I don’t know if anyone’s talked about The Jacket™ or not but

we’re going to talk about The Jacket

so in season 3 when we are first introduced to Even Bech Næsheim he is wearing The Jacket™

you know the one i’m talking about

Yes that one.

and then for the next three episodes, nearly every appearance he made (only exception being the James Dean slow mo scene) included his denim jacket.

last time we see him with The Jacket™ is at the start of the last clip of episode 3, where he is not wearing it, but holding it over his shoulder. He has taken the jacket off

and as we know it is later in that same clip where Even can no longer hide his emotions, and his feelings for Isak become evident not just in the call your girlfriend stare off but later in the kitchen when despite trying to explain to Isak and himself why he must stay with Sonja and not give in to his feelings, he ends up nearly kissing Isak anyway.

because he could no longer hide anymore. His Jacket was off.

We don’t see the jacket again in the season apart from this ONE appearance in episode seven during The reunion scene.

The jacket comes back for a second before Isak rips it off (cos Isak has no chill) The jacket is back and so is Even with more things to hide. It is then when the next secret begins to truly build up and I also believe this was the moment Even decided to actively hide is bipolar from Isak and be with him. He wore his jacket and took it off when he first makes a move with Isak in ep 3 and he wears it just to take it off again when they finally reunite.

signifying letting his feelings for Isak take over. Letting himself become that little bit vulnerable, while still having many things he needs to shield with The Jacket™

Now season 4 has started and so far every single appearance Even has made this season has him wearing the damn jacket.

Why? because as the last clip just revealed Even is hiding from something again. He is hiding from his past and all the feelings connected to it. He is hiding it from Isak out of fear of losing him, out of fear of being vulnerable.

and it is not until he loses that jacket will he be able to face his fears, let himself become vulnerable and then begin to finally heal and accept himself.
