Stumbled across your art recently, and I totally admire your work! As a complete noob to the digital art scene, I'd just like to ask whether you have any tips on colour picking (like for skin tones, under varied/dramatic lighting and such!). I have a ton of other things I want to ask, but I'll limit myself to one question and then try to google the rest, haha/ Thanks for sharing your art with us! ^^
ahh thank you so much! ♥ welcome to the digial art scene friend, i hope you enjoy your stay and ctrl + z
now onto your question! (if you don’t know what layer and layer modes are and how they generally work you should probably google that before you continue reading)
we all perceive colour differently (thx science) and i trust my intuition a lot when it comes to colour picking because of that, and also because i feel like you can make pretty much every colour combination work within the right context. context is key! but still, remember that all of this is about how i perceive colour, so you might not agree with everything i say.
here’s a quick rundown of terms you’ll see around a lot in reference to colours and shading: the hue, which is the ‘colour’ itself, the saturation aka the intensity, and the brightness [or value] which describes how dark or bright we perceive a colour to be.
rule of thumb: when you shade don’t just add black (or white) to your base colours, that will make your drawings boring and lifeless. use different hues and saturation!
now first things first: which skin colour does the character have?
you’ll mostly be navigating in the red to yellow spectrum for the skin tone. so when i pick the base colours i usually start with the skin and adjust the rest of the colours accordingly. if you’re not sure where to begin it might help if you first determine the values (brightness) of the base colours in grayscale.
and here are a few colour variations—i stuck to the approximate values but played around with a lot of different hues and levels of saturation.
now compare 3 and 5: you’ll notice that 3 is very bright and leans towards orange hues, whereas 5 has a pinkish tint.
on the left i gave 5 the hair colour of 3 and in my opinion the pink hue of the skin doesn’t go well with the orange undertone of the hair. you’ll have to experiment a lot to find out which combinations work for you.
ctrl + u is your biggest friend (or image >> adjustments >> hue/saturation in photoshop, the shortcut works in sai and clip studio paint too). play with the sliders and see what happens. i do that a lot myself, because it’s easier to coordinate the colours like that afterwards instead of trying to manually pick perfectly matching ones right away.
for further adjustments i like to use an extra semi-transparent layer on top of everything with just a single colour to add atmospheric light. this unifies the colours and makes them more harmonious, if that’s what you’re looking for. this is about as far as i’d go if i didn’t want to shade the drawing.
if i do want to shade, especially with high contrasts and dramatic light, i darken the base by just adding an additional black layer, here set to 40% opacity. of course you could add a colour layer like the ones i mentioned previously too.
to create an impression of dramatic light you need a high contrast between light and dark areas (1). if i want additional visual intrest i often add secondary light which falls onto the main shadow areas. here i picked a faint greenish blue to balance out the yellow (2). and since light is at least partially reflected when it hits a surface you should add a faint glow that goes across the shadow/light border. i uses a mid-brown with a very soft brush on a layer set to overlay here (3).
for this shading style i like to use the layer mode colour dodge with lowered opacity + fill settings. for some layer modes opacity and fill do the exact same thing (e.g. for multiply or screen). however for colour dodge there’s a big difference:
a lowered opacity merely alters the transparency of the entire layer. that looks pretty awful sometimes, because the bright orange affects the dark of the hair much more intensely than the already brighter skin. but when you lower the fill percentage you primarily lower the amount of light that falls onto darker colours. so the layer’s opacity setting treats every colour equally whereas the fill setting takes their values into consideration. it might be hard to understand if you don’t try it out yourself, so just play around to get a feel for how it works!
and to summarise, here’s a process gif:
colour is an extremely big topic and i’ve only barely scratched the surface but i hope that still helped you out a little! the fastest way to learn is always to try things yourself, so grab a sketch and experiment. 👍
If there was one thing you were certain of, it was that the purpose or your existence was to love Kim Taehyung, and his was to love you. Throughout countless lifetimes the two of you have longed for each other, but just like parallel lines, though your souls always seemed to be travelling in the same direction, it was impossible that they could ever meet and become one.
Author’s Note: This was inspired by the Fallen series which I read when I was like 12 lmao
You were no longer sure who, or where, you had been the very first time you laid your eyes on Kim Taehyung.
So many lifetimes blurred together into one, your existence was so scattered throughout time you had begun to lose track of it. But in each life, no matter who you were, regardless of whether you lived a life of luxury or one of extreme poverty, he was always there. Your existences were irreversibly intertwined.
You didn’t know why. You didn’t know how. You had no clue if there were others in the world who lived through multiple existences, or if any of them remembered each individual life the way you did. In no life had you ever dared ask, for fear of sounding crazy or being whisked away to the closest asylum.
In some lives you were close to him. In a few, you even grew up as childhood friends. You remembered those lives more clearly than most. One in particular that you remembered with a shocking clarity was England in the 1600s. Your family lived on and ran a small farm out in a tiny rural village. It had been a tough life, getting up at the brink of dawn every morning and not returning from the fields until the sun finally dropped behind the earth, but the hard work paid off and there was always a sufficient amount of food. You could still feel the wonderful sensation of the cool, crisp early morning air against your skin, even now.
Taehyung’s family had owned a bakery and every morning, just as you set out to work the fields, his mother would send him round to deliver bread in exchange for milk.
Even from a young age, you’d felt the pull towards him, that feeling which was now so painfully familiar. He was like a magnet, he could only be resisted for so long before you had no choice but to give in.
For some reason, you’d thought in that life that perhaps things would be different, perhaps it wouldn’t end in the same fashion that all the others had. You were no longer sure what had caused you to think this, maybe getting to spend so long by his side had lured you into a false sense of safeness. You weren’t as foolish now as you had been then. You’d learnt the hard way that there were never any exceptions.
You still dreamt about that life sometimes. You dreamt about the way the long honey coloured strands of wheat matched his eyes and the sound of his laughter getting caught between trees in the nearby forest as you played together. But more vividly, you were haunted by the shy, gentle first touch of your lips to his, you were tormented by that fleeting moment of happiness that had existed just before everything crumbled away to dust.
In other lives, however, Kim Taehyung was painfully out of reach. One of you would be of a much higher status than the other, meaning any attraction you felt was forbidden. You could recall a few lives where you ended up being born into a wealthy family and Taehyung had been employed by your family in some way. He had once been a gardener, and another time a cook, and you were fairly sure he had also been a stable boy at some point. But you hated those lives the most. Any interaction with him was dialled down to a minimum and it made your chest ache awfully. Those lives were made of nothing but longing glances and sad smiles.
Kim Taehyung never seemed to remember you. Unlike you, he seemed blissfully unaware of the fact that he had lived hundreds of times before, and that you had been present in each and every one of those existences.
Needless to say, it was heartbreaking to look into the eyes of the man you’d loved for centuries and for him to have absolutely no clue who you were. But it was even more heartbreaking to watch as he fell hopelessly in love with you. The dreadful cycle was doomed to repeat over and over, possibly for eternity.
Because the two of you could never be together.
In every life, without fail, the first kiss with Kim Taehyung was also always the last. You’d spent so many days and nights in complete anguish, wondering why the two of you had been cursed with such a cruel fate.
Because after every first kiss with Kim Taehyung, your body would burst into flames.
The 12th house is very personal, and secluded. This is the house of secrets and hidden personalities. The signs, planets and asteroids residing here are internalised, and reside deep inside who they are. It takes people we trust the most to unlock them, and if someone does they explode like fireworks with profound energy and warmth. Unleashing the 12th house is like a private festival of emotions.
Sun in 12th:
Someone with this placement hides their ego and self from almost everyone. They may come across as very shy and timid, as well as introverted. If this person opens up to you, you learn that there's confidence underneath the layers of quiet retreat.
Moon in 12th:
Their emotions are hidden from view. They may be likely to take on everyone else's burdens because they never show they have any of their own. They feel so intensely when alone in their thoughts, and it can be scary for them sometimes. If they open up to you, it's a truly special thing. Their emotions and feelings are like the start of a new ink cartridge: powerful in colour, abundant when written out.
Mercury in 12th:
They find it very hard to communicate, and probably only feel properly able to to very close friends or online where they can think about their responses. They'll pick texting over verbal confrontation any day. Speeches and arguments are exceptionally hard for them. Midnight conversations with them are beautiful, deep, and unique.
Venus in 12th:
Love is a hidden gem. They don't often just give their heart to someone. Sometimes they may feel like they should, so can seemingly force themselves into crushes or flirting, but soon withdraw as they realise it doesn't make them happy. Love for them happens in the quiet of their mind, and the arms of their lover, rather than in the public eye. They are also lovers of poetry, reading, and artistic forms which make them think of how they feel themselves.
Mars in 12th:
They hate to argue a lot. They'd rather work things out without stress or heated emotion. They're also very reserved in sexual affairs, preferring usually to keep the bedroom to serious relationships. If you ever get that far, you'll learn they're deep and intense. This placement may lash out when alone, and will pent up how they feel a lot like Moon in 12th, except it'll usually come out aggressively when alone.
Saturn in 12th:
They feel so restricted inside. They make their own walls and barriers with their feelings and deeper selves that can stress them out and give them intense worries and stresses. They always feel the need to regulate their dreams and fears, often calling their deeper emotions irrational. Positively, they may tend to hide less of themselves from people.
Jupiter in 12th:
These individuals no know boundaries deep within them. What they keep inside out of public view is a deep pool of emotion and dreams. They may be extensive dreamers, whether when asleep or awake. Sometimes their fears and anxieties are so strong, they aren't sure how to regulate and manage them.
Neptune in 12th:
Extreme dreamers. They can often suffer from delusional thoughts of their fears, or being over anxious of parts of life. Neptune is at home here, and is free to gloss over and shroud whatever it wants in mystery and illusion. Someone with this placement may worry and overthink intensely, but never let this out into the open.
Uranus in 12th:
These people want to revolutionise and change things, but feel unable to do so. They aren't sure how to project their want your change into the world. They can also want to change themselves a lot, and may manifest through several inner mentalities quite quickly to try and align themselves more with their life situations.
Pluto in the 12th:
Destructive of their inner selves. They constantly change up who they are inside, sometimes without even wanting to. What is hidden inside them is a ball in a china shop. You may find they hide away their emotions on secret blogs or journals. The things they hard away from friends are often intense, which makes it even harder for them to open up.
Describe the foxes' hands pls :) im trying to draw them but i dont have any imagination :/
oh my god
kevin: artist’s hands, with long deft fingers. really nice nails that look like he has manicures even though he doesn’t (well, maybe sometimes). his left hand swells when he works hard (so, every day, pretty much) but the bones set surprisingly straight considering they were never properly treated. he makes fists of them when he’s nervous. there’s a blog dedicated to his sexy man hands and all the kevin day fans share them everywhere
dan: TEENY LITTLE HANDS with broad palms and quite short fingers. strong-looking, calloused across the base of the her centre three fingers. she paints her nails in bright colours (like orange!!! but also yellow and pastel pink and neon green) and moisturises with lemon-scented creme that allison buys her each birthday and christmas. loves to wear pretty rings, anything from fine plain metal to big chunky statement ones
matt: GIANT HANDS which means there’s a pic on the wall of dan holding her hand up against matt’s to compare (from before they started dating. they’re actually about to arm wrestle). thick-knuckled from boxing. shares dan’s moisturiser, so his hands smell citrusy too
renee: small hands with neatly trimmed nails that she doesn’t often paint unless they’re all doing them together. wears cute gloves all through winter because they get cold. red-silvery ropes of scarring in the meat of her palm where she once grabbed a blade aimed at her belly, to match the tracery on her knuckles where she was cut once or twice. they ache sometimes in bad weather, and swell in the heat, and she often clenches and relaxes them to ease stiffness. they’re helper’s hands, made to work as well as fight, and more soft and generous than they look like they should be
aaron: workmanlike square hands with bitten nails and major tan line from his watch on his left wrist. they get cold easily but he never buys gloves so he often shoves them in his pockets and hunches his shoulders. has a crooked finger where he hit someone once (they deserved it) and it never healed right, but it doesn’t bother him much (except that he looks at it sometimes and thinks vaguely about becoming a doctor because everyone - even bratty poor kids - deserves proper medical care)
allison: the kind of hands you see modelling rings - long fingers, slim lovely wrists, perfect nails in shell pink and iridescent silver and shimmering gold. she pays for manicures and moisturises obsessively. doesn’t mean she doesn’t have calluses, though - and she’s proud of them. these hands are beautiful, but they’re still as likely to make you lose a tooth as the hands of the other foxes
nicky: big mobile hands that are always on the move. the kind where you can make out every well-shaped bone and tendon moving under his skin, no marks to obscure them. he’s lazy about moisturising ever so they’re always super dry and also really warm. he always briskly chafes them over the hands or shoulders of anyone who complains about being cold. catch him holding hands with any and all of his teammates to keep their fingers warm
andrew: broad palms, thick fingers; strong like the rest of him. scarred knuckles like tiny white starbursts where he’s punched things he shouldn’t - walls, mirrors, windows. misshappen knuckles from punching all kinds of stuff, actually (including people). broke bones more than once before he learned some technique for hurting people without hurting himself. under the marks, his skin is fairly pale from all the time he spends with them in his pockets, and also soft around the callouses from his racquet
neil: knobbly wrists but elegant slim hands that move quickly and lightly. they give him away sometimes, forming fists when he’s angry, and fluttering when he’s anxious or irritated. the burn scars stay rippled and obvious, but many of the finer scars between them eventually fade so you can only see them in the right light. often seen hooked into the hem of andrew’s sweater, or through a belt loop. andrew calls him “lost child” with a hint of mocking sometimes, but doesn’t tell him to stop
Hey, I've started to practice draw again and since you're my favourite artist I want to ask you a thing - if you're drawing something but don't like how it's turning out, is it best to finish it anyway before starting something new or just give up on it and start something new right away?
difficult one- honestly, if I’m really not liking how something is going, I’ve found the best thing to do is to just start over! not to completely abandon it unless it’s absolutely sapping the joy out of life- but make a real, drastic change or totally start from scratch
Disclaimer; This is my first time doing an ‘introduction’ to a group post, so I hope you enjoy it and if you don’t already know who BTS is, I hope it helps a lot!

BTS are a 7 member boy group under BigHit Entertainment. They first debuted on June 13 2013 with their debut single No More Dream (we’ll get into their songs and MV’s later so bare with!) BTS fandom name is A.R.M.Y (

↳ hi hi everyone hello ↳ It’s RM (japanese) ↳ I wish there was a function where it says who it is when you come in ↳ It’s 1:30 in korea right? ↳ doing well (english) ↳ I’ve been reading and watching movies all day ↳ I just finished working on something but I don’t know when I can release itㅠㅠ
I know this might be an odd request, (maybe out of the ordinary) but I absolutely adore your way in writing style and was wondering, could you possibly write anything about plain brown eyes that could make me love them? Because I'm finding it so hard to.
You have eyes the colour of the trees, as grounded and strong as forests that spread old and wise and long before us. I meet them and instantly feel at peace. You are beyond me.
You have eyes the colour of my favourite coffee. Rich and warm - I look at you, and we are home again, cuddled together in the early morning with steam coaxing us awake. Eyes like dark chocolate: heaven on earth.
You have eyes like the autumn. Sometimes, I think they might be brown, other times there are flecks of green, or a sprinkling of gold in the sunlight. I could spend a lifetime looking at you and never quite figure it out.
You have eyes like the earth; everything starts there.
How do you make pins? I been wanting to make pins for so long but idk how to even start its so confusing please help me ;_; no one wants to tell me how to make my own pins. I have my own designs and everything
Okay! This is a very long post and I’ll try to get you as much info as I can. I’ve found that the pin making community is very closed off with providing help to new creators since there’s been such an increase in people making pins. So I completely get that you’ve been having issues finding out how to start.
If you already have designs in mind the best thing to do is have them digitized if you haven’t already. The best option is to have a vector file where each of the enamel colours is on a separate layer with no overlapping of the colours or metal areas. This isn’t necessary since a lot of pin manufacturers can digitize your design from a drawing but having them do it can lead to issues and a lot of back and forth changes because they have to trace the image you give them. It’s a lot easier if you can give them a file that they don’t have to do anything with a can use right off the bat to make a mold.
Here’s a pin that I just got made recently that I’ll use as an example through this. The full design in the top left but you can see that each enamel colour can be pulled off separately and leave a solid background that shows the metal of the pin with no overlapping parts.
Also fyi I use Adobe Illustrator to do my designs.
Long post is long. So you’ll have to keep reading :)
Natsume Yuujinchou is beautiful and amazing and completely underrated. And since so many of my followers have never read (or even heard of) Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume’s Book of Friends), here’s a list of reasons you absolutely MUST read this manga (and watch the anime too because it’s amazing, but it does miss a few of the best chapters in the series):
The main character, Natsume Takashi has silver hair and eyes, and is also absolutely fucking stunning. He’s soft and warm and the sweetest person you’ll ever meet, but he’s also ULTIMATE SASS MASTER.
He has a very fat cat that can talk and also turn into a huge monster to eat people who try to hurt his human because he loves his human very much even though he likes to pretend he doesn’t.
Natsume is a foster child who has had so many horrible experiences with past foster families who only took him in to save face and who treated him horribly. But!!! He’s finally found his forever home! And they love and care for him and they’re literally the sweetest people in the entire world!!! (Yeah they changed his hair and eye colour in the anime to make him look more like his grandmother)
SPEAKING OF! Natsume can see youkai (spirits and monsters) and he had a very hard childhood because of it, because they’re not all friendly, and he sometimes can’t tell the difference between them and humans! In fact, a lot of them in his new town actually mistake him for his late grandmother, Natsume Reiko, who could also see youkai, and who went around being a badass, challenging youkai to fights and then forcing them to sign contracts to be her servants when they lost. She collected these contracts into the “Book of Friends”. She was just as stunning as her grandson, and her maiden name was actually Natsume. And she was Natsume’s maternal grandmother! Meaning that not only did Natsume’s mother take her mother’s surname, so did Natsume and his father!!
There’s a female youkai named Hinoe who is intimidatingly beautiful! And!!! She’s pan!!! She had a crush on Reiko!! And after getting to know Natsume, she feels the same way about him!!
Hi there! I love your pixel arts though (￣▽￣) They look really cute. I'm starting on drawing pixel too, so can you tell me what Wacom do you use or any other tools ? like suggestions for beginners （╹◡╹）Thank you
helloo, well i didn’t start off using a drawing tablet for pixel art, that was fine for me as a beginner i suppose bc i think it makes you take your time & helps avoid that wonky line uneven distribution thing like this
(which i see some beginners do) i mean idk maybe that’s the look people wanna go for but i like clean outlines personally. It’s easy to do the first example when you have a drawing tablet/pressure sensitive pen as ..you can just just end up drawing like you would with a pencil, but pixel art is slightly different in that it’s more …‘tap tap’ than ‘swoop swoop’ ?? so it could just take some getting used to
I got a drawing tablet later on bc i wanted to experiment with like ‘traditional’ digital art (that sounds weird but i mean like digital painting and all that) so i have this thing
that’s a ‘wacom intuos’ and it’s good for me ! it’s also very hard to damage which is a plus when ur good at dropping things from various heights & spilling stuff. It’s actually my second wacom ( i had one before that broke but i forgot to model name??) anyway it had a years warranty or something so i went in and they were like ‘yeah we don’t have that in stock, you can have this one though’. So, that’s why i have it. sort of like an upgrade
For drawing programs i just use ms paint, and sometimes gimp for fancy colouring (because you can use opacity and stuff on there - don’t draw in gimp bc i just like paint better but i guess it’s fine for that if you wanted to). I also use gimp sometimes for doing more complex animationss for gifs
ALLLso for beginners i would say don’t be embarrassed to look at references, literally everyone looks at references at some point in their drawing…lives, but just remember that if your reference is say someone else’s artwork or particular post/photo etc ALWAYS remember to credit before you post online, some artists may also like you to ask permission first.
same goes with posting artwork inspired by someone else, honesty and generally just being nice to people is the way forward !
that’s about all i can think of right now but i made another post abt this sort of thing here
(Soulmate AU where a circle forms on every child’s wrist when it’s born, the colour signaling which sensation/emotion they are not going to be able to feel until they kiss their soulmate. Inspired by @wavydanrises‘ story “Second Chances”)
“You’re telling me my son … my son won’t ever love me?”
He’s the weird kid. If they could just stop making sure he remembers, he might even be able to forget it for a few seconds.
“Sometimes you know the work is so you, know you try to be true and you feel sometimes it’s on the verge of a kind of craziness but it’s even really craziness, it’s really…getting this true part of yourself out and it’s very hard you know, and it’s not easy with me and yet it can be very simply same time, being an artist because sometimes you think, oh, what all I have to do these true, but sometimes it doesn’t come so easily.” ㅡ Marilyn.
