Do u know any fics where Sherlock is jealous?

NONNNNYYYYYY YES.

I love Jealous Sherlock so much. I know I’m missing a tonne of them here, but these are the ones I could quickly find or remember being Jealous!Sherlock! I’m also adding Possessive Sherlock here as well, because I LOVE LOVE LOVE “his / My John” SO SO MUCH and literally I fave every fic that has it in there. GUH.

JEALOUS SHERLOCK

  • Unimpressed by 221b_hound (M, 3106 w.) – Sherlock has no intention of attending the Met’s New Year’s Eve party. The start of a new year is all but meaningless to him. But he ends up there anyway, having odd conversations, and John does not find Sherlock’s jealousy the slightest bit cute. And then there is dancing. Part 10 of Unkissed
  • Unforgiven by 221b_hound (M, 4721 w.) – Sherlock’s latest case is for his ex boyfriend, the brilliant and handsome Professor Victor Trevor. John is not too happy about that. But things aren’t what they seem, an old friend of John’s is involved in the case, and John has a few surprises up his sleeve. Also - a proposal! Part 16 of Unkissed
  • Mine (He Says While Still Being Smol) by beejohnlocked (E, 1,319 w.) – A suspect flirts with John. Sherlock gets a bit jealous. Okay, a LOT jealous.
  • Maintaining A Personal Life by Gingerhermit (E, 24,284 w.) – Sherlock and John discover some interesting revelations about each other’s sexuality, which lead them both to question the assumptions they’ve made about one another for years. In the midst of their mutual discoveries, a dangerous psychopath looms on the side-lines who threatens to destroy their new beginning.
  • For you, there’s only me by shock_blanket (E, 19,557 w.) – Sherlock realizes he has fallen in love with John, but believes he is unlovable. Cue lots of pining and jealousy on Sherlock’s part, followed by our favorite cuddly marksman making it all better. Because for Sherlock, there’s only John.
  • Matters of National Security by mistyzeo (E, 8,465 w.) – John starts dating a male client of Sherlock’s, and Sherlock can’t figure out why he’s so incensed about it.
  • Velvet by headlessjess (G, 1,155 w.) – It’s the day, the wedding day - John and Mary, getting married. And then there’s Sherlock, in pain and in love, without knowing how to deal with it.
  • 5 Times John Got the Girl (and lost her) and 1 Time John Got the Guy (and kept him) by LiviKate (M, 21,695 w.) – John has always had good luck with the ladies. He’s charming, friendly and funny, not to mention great in bed. However, his usual skill with the opposite sex is constantly being thwarted by Sherlock and his outbursts. How will John ever get a leg over when Sherlock is always cockblocking him?
  • Five Times John Noticed But Didn’t Really by ScandalousMinds (T, 6,383 w.) – 5 times John (thought) he noticed something peculiar about his and Sherlock’s relationship but really missed the obvious.
  • The Kissing Disease by cottonballz_of_death (E, 30,856 w.) – John brings home a boyfriend, shocking Sherlock, who long ago gave up hope that his straight flatmate would ever take a romantic interest in him. In a bid to reconnect with John, he tries to infect himself with a “harmless” virus. Neither of them is prepared for the emotional fallout that results.
  • Surety by hudders (G, 2,477w.) – “Sherlock is pissed because it seems that four pints of larger, two shots of tequila and a glass of wine has resulted in Lestrade becoming a little bit too friendly with everyone. And by everyone, Sherlock really means John.”
  • Butterfly, Pinned Under Glass by billiethepoet (E, 4,648 w.) – It started as a desire to keep John safe and whole, and ended up as just desire.
  • Correspondence by Cleo2010 (T, 8031 w.) – Sherlock’s been spirited away on a case for Mycroft. Part of the deal was that he and John could communicate via letter until the case was completed. Maybe the cliche is true, absence does make the heart grow fonder. Or perhaps something is growing on the feet in the fridge. Read their letters month by month. Written after series one.
  • Presence by LostGirl (M, 8625 w.) – Sherlock has recently noticed a shift in his own perceptions, but he can’t quite figure out when it started.
  • Obsession, Appassionato by shinychimera, Yeomanrand (E, 4,249 w.) – John is late, and he hasn’t called, and Sherlock works himself into a state. Part 1 of Love and Ysaye (FAVE!!)
  • Interlude by sussexbound (SamanthaLenore) (G, 2,837w.) – “Are you actually doing anything?” Sherlock scowls. “What?” “Are you busy? Because if not, I could use your help peeling potatoes.” “I’m not eating what you’re making. Why should I peel the potatoes?” John just shakes his head. “Because it might be a polite and thoughtful thing to do for the person who loves you. Just a tip.”Oh…Part 8 of The Homecoming
  • Understanding by sussexbound (SamanthaLenore) (T, 4,556 w.) – John’s face stretches into a smile that fades again, just as quickly. “It just comes like that, sometimes—all of a sudden. You don’t expect it.” He murmurs against Sherlock’s skin. “What does?” “Grief.” Part 9 of The Homecoming
  • Sibling Rivalry Or Fighting Over John Watson by Jessa7 (T, 8K+ w., Romance and Humour, FFNet) – Mycroft is just as much of a genius as Sherlock is. He keeps randomly kidnapping John for chats, and the locations get better. Cue Sherlock’s younger sibling complex rearing up and jealousy ensues.
  • Come Home by hudders-and-hiddles (E, 3,763 w. | more pining than jealous but close enough) – When John leaves for a medical conference, Sherlock tries to entice him back home.
  • The Semantics of Crop Circle Formation: a case study by Sherlock Holmes [unpublished] by canolacrush (M, 41,710 | Cockblocking Sherlock) – “Look at these photographs,” I said, gesturing to the wall of crop circles. “What do you observe?”“Crop circles,” John replied.“Obvious. What else?”“Are…are those intestines surrounding them?”“Yes. The majority are bovine and ovine in origin. The farmers who have acquired these crop circles in their fields have also had a tenth of their livestock murdered and arranged thus.”“Why?” John said, presumably in a rhetorical fashion.I detest rhetorical questions. “That is what I must find out, John.”
  • Down with this Ship by FrostedFlame (PinkOrchid) (M, 10,862 w.) – Sherlock drags John undercover to a gay bar - for a case, of course - looking forward to seeing John flustered by their surroundings (since you know, he’s NOT GAY). John decides that he has hidden both his orientation and his feelings for his daft flatmate for far too long. He is done hiding, time to be honest with his bloody best friend in the world. He just hopes it won’t change anything between them. And then it does.
  • That Partitioning of the Things of Youth by wearitcounts (Sher_locked_up) (E | 35,353 w.) - Victor Trevor is in town, and nobody’s happy. [[I really like this one. Jealous John AND Sherlock and lots of Angst]].
  • Paparazzi by SilentAuror (E, 10,543 w.) – John moves back into 221B Baker Street after his marriage falls apart and the paparazzi won’t leave him and Sherlock alone about the status of their supposed relationship. Sherlock, of course, never denies it, until one day he does…
  • Pattern Behaviour by SilentAuror (E, 14,835w) – Sherlock doesn’t even know why he resents John’s dates so much. Until the day he does know. Slight angst, unrequited feelings (but don’t let that scare you off!) (FAVE!)

OBSESSIVE / POSSESSIVE SHERLOCK

  • Perdition’s Flames by i_ship_an_armada (E, Treklock, 63,435 w., | mild Possessive Sherlock) – Sherlock would do anything to save him. Risk anything. Give anything. His money, his life. His soul. What he does, though, is change both of their destinies forever. Genetic re-engineering is the only option left. It turns out researchers underestimated the life expectancy and potential abilities of genetically re-engineered subjects. The British government and what would eventually become the United Federation of Planets, however, had not. Part 1 of PF Universe
  • The Things You Hide *Adult Edition* by verityburns (E, 10,821 w.) – Sherlock and John have been working and living together for nearly a year, each finding the other’s friendship to be the one thing they would not risk or want to live without. Until something happens to disturb the status quo…
  • Let Go by thisisforyou (G, 2,743 w.) – In the end, separating John’s things from Sherlock’s in the chaos of their sitting room is like pulling a limpet from a wet rock. Especially when the rock is clinging on for dear life, because Sherlock doesn’t want to let go.
  • In the cherry blossom’s shade by Eliane (M, 3,934 w.) – “This isn’t new. Sherlock has already done this – has gone through cities, and dingy hotels, and sleepless nights but it was different before. John wasn’t there before. They’re in this together.”
  • The Marriage Proposal Negotiation by Goddess_of_the_Night (G, 2161 w.) –  Sherlock hasn’t ever really done anything the traditional way, so of course it wouldn’t bother him to propose to John even though they’re not even dating. And the fact that John is already on a date with someone else when he decides to do it? Tedious. Marrying John was the only thing he could do to ensure John was his.
  • The Light of Day by allonsys_girl (M, 7297 w.) – Rewrite of the end of Sign of Three. John actually notices Sherlock leaving the reception early, and chases after him. Angsty Johnlock. Happy ending, for sure. Part 1 of The Light of Day
  • Let the Sun Fade Out by nothingislittle (E, 2711 w.) – “He could warm the sun itself, Sherlock thinks, could heat their flat with just his presence, could brighten the room with one dazzling smile or just the sparkling in his eyes. Everything hurts when John looks this beautiful, but it’s a dulcet, aching pain, one that consumes Sherlock from the inside, that sends soft pangs through his abdomen and lodges a lump solidly in his throat. John glows, he glitters, he’s light itself, Sherlock thinks, and doesn’t even bother to scold himself for exaggerating, because he’s not, he’s not, John is everything, he’s beautiful and he shines, he’s everything.”
  • On a Sunday Morning by SD_Ryan for jimmytiberius (G, 3136 w.) – Sherlock has a little problem. He can’t stop obsessing about John Watson.
  • His by I’m Nova (T, 1K+ w., Humour & H/C) – Sherlock doesn’t share what he’s fond of. (FAVE!!)
  • Foresight by niffler09 (K, 2K+w) – It’s raining and neither John nor Sherlock have an umbrella so they huddle under Sherlock’s coat. And then Mycroft walks past and makes smartass remarks. (FAVE!!)
  • Possessive by Fang323 (T, 850w. H/c & Friendship) – His John did not belong. Not here. Not in this blasted hospital. It simply was not logical.

As I’ve said in the past, all my rec lists are of fics I’ve read, so I’m sure I’m missing a tonne more that are probably on my MFL list, but please feel free to add your own recs!

Quartet Night LIVE Evolution full report

Written by me who have short-term memory and is really biased to QN

(PLEASE TAKE ALL OF STUFFS WRITTEN HERE WITH GRAIN OF SALT; there’s no way i could remember all stuffs exactly at it was. I would be happy if you could just ‘take the feel’)

First of all, it was awesome. I can’t really describe how overwhelming it was. If you’ve watched any of utapri live before, i just want to say that for me this is the best utapri live i’ve seen so far. If you think 5th and 4th live was awesome, this was on different level. The hall was definitely too small for a group who got #1 weekly oricon and more than 100k sales (which was made up by hundred of cinemas live viewing), but it was really well-planned. Probably the most well-planned utapri live ever.

You had always been working to achieve what seemed like a far-fetched dream.

You were born and raised in the country side of Daegu with your four siblings and several cousins, surrounded by farms and pastures. But your mind was constantly fascinated with the promising change of life that came with being in the city. The fast-paced bustling of people, how lively everything was, how there were so many buildings and stores, and how everybody had a purpose moving forward. While some people walked just to stroll, the majority of people in the city were off to work or off to pick up something before work. Everybody was going somewhere. Everybody was on their way to be someone.

And you too wanted to be someone.

You didn’t like the slow-paced, care-free, yet physically labor-intensive lifestyle of the countryside, and you surely had no intention of staying and taking it over. You wanted to be more than a farmer. You wanted more out of your life, and tending to animals and the fields wasn’t going to cut it for you. But unfortunately, having a large family such as yours meant strained funds. So you worked plenty of jobs to support yourself through a decent university and eventually, you took the leap and began interviewing for companies in the city.

You were turned down countless of times without ever being interviewed and even when you made it through to an interview, they rejected you without asking you any questions. They took one look at your lack of connections, where you had grown up, where you had gone to school, and immediately dismissed you as unfit. But you weren’t going to give up; you just needed one person to give you a chance, one person to see you past the first few words of your resume.

And one day, one such person saw your value – Chairman Min.

You couldn’t believe your ears when he told you himself that you were hired. From the look of the other board members at the interview, they were just as astounded by his decision. As if reading yours and everyone else’s thoughts at the time, he chuckled and explained.

"I like the fire in your eyes, and how you’ve worked your way here. That shows me you’re determined, used to hard work, and you’ve got guts to go against the grain.“ the Chairman grinned. "It’s rare to see that in people nowadays. People always constrict themselves into believing that there’s just one path to take and one route to get there, so I like how you stepped out of that mold. I’d love to have someone like you work for my company. I’m sure you’ll be a valuable asset.”

You stood up frantically and bowed deeply. “Thank you so much Chairman. I won’t let you down! Truly!”

He chuckled. “I believe you, Ms. Y/N. Now go show us what you’re made of.”

           And you surely did.

You became the heart and soul of the company’s Daegu branch. Although your education only allowed you to be a secretary, you took it upon yourself to learn other skills to help out your co-workers or to fill in for someone as necessary. You were as much a fellow office worker as you were a secretary. People looked to you reliably and everyone, including the Chairman himself, knew you were the backbone of the office.

           "Good morning, Y/N.“

You grinned, recognizing the familiarly sweet greeting of Department Head Park.

"Good morning Mr. Park.” You grinned.

"I told you to stop calling me Mr. Park. Sheesh. How many years has it been?“ he chuckled as he handed you coffee, which you happily accepted.

Jimin was your closest friend in the office and in terms of work hierarchy he was at the top so you two worked together often. He was an extremely sociable man and incredibly sweet. But thanks to one office dinner party, and an unfortunately timed trip to the bathroom on your part, you discovered the other side of his personality when you caught him hitting on one of the waitresses. You dragged him outside at the time, thinking he was drunk out of his mind, but you two ended up conversing candidly the entire night– from your pasts to your dreams, etc. Naturally afterwards, he felt comfortable with you and vice versa, so you grew to be close friends. And it was nice to have someone like that in your workplace, or in general really.

Since you worked all through your school years to support yourself and your younger siblings, you sacrificed having a social life. And you couldn’t quite vent out your frustrations to your family. You didn’t want to burden them, and you also didn’t want to give them a reason to consider that they were right about the city life all along.

"But your office fan club might think weird things if we’re on a first name basis.” You grinned as you sipped your coffee. “Plus it’s more professional.”

Jimin exhaled. “Always professional and uptight, Y/N.”

           "Not always.

"Yes, always.” he responded, chuckling. “But I mean, that’s why you’re the Chairman’s favorite after all.”

You squinted your eyes at him. “Am not.”

"You know you are and you love it.“ Jimin grinned cheekily.

You rolled your eyes. "Get out of here, Mr. Park. You have work to do and you’re already a few minutes late to clock in.”

"I know, I know.“ Jimin laughed. "You have a meeting with the Chairman later right?”

"Yes, so you have to go to the morning meetings by yourself today.“

Jimin pouted. "Now who am I going to flaunt at the meeting to sway the others to do my bidding?”

"HIGHLY inappropriate Mr. Park.“ You scolded sternly. "Clock in if you don’t want your chances of being CEO to dissipate.”

"Yes, yes.“ Jimin grinned and skipped away to clock in.

Sighing, you opened up your color-coded planner and began sifting through your schedule for the day to mentally prepare yourself.

           "Oh my goodness. He’s hott.”

Yoongi smirked as he lifted up his hood and zipped up his leather jacket nonchalantly. He shifted his bangs over with a flick of his head, moving it away from his eyes so he could take a better look at the girls fawning over him.

“He’s looking this way! He’s looking this way!”

He nodded slightly to acknowledge them but continued on his way, feeling triumphant with the sound of their suppressed squeals. Then he slipped sunglasses over his eyes, hoping no one recognized him.

"Where did I park this damn car again?“ he hummed to himself as he inserted in earphones to drown out the sound of the busy streets and the obnoxious honking of city traffic.

He spun his keys around his finger as he bobbed his head to a song. Through his music, he heard hurried footsteps behind him but collectedly continued walking.

"I could’ve sworn Mr. Min was heading this way!”

"How did he slip out of the window again?!“

"I told you to bar them!”

"The landlord refused to comply with that!“

Yoongi smirked as they scurried away from his path frantically. It was always so easy to get away from his bodyguards.

           Poor fellows.

"Ah!” he grinned as he spotted his expensive sports car a good distance away. He shuffled towards it hurriedly and ended up colliding with someone also in a hurry. Quickly, he realized it was a woman and helped her up from the ground.

"Whoa lady, gotta watch where you’re hurrying to.“ he chuckled as he watched her dusting herself off and adjusting the stiff ribbon on her neck.

"I believe the proper response would be an apology?” she glanced at him, clearly offended.

"My bad. It was a joke.“ Yoongi lifted his hands up.

"Well it’s fine I guess.” she replied curtly.

           Yoongi furrowed his brow. “Well?”

           She glanced over. “Well what?”

"I think I deserve an apology too.“

           "What? You bumped into me.”

"No we bumped into each other.“ Yoongi crossed his arms. "And I helped you up. I believe the appropriate response is ‘thank you’.”

The woman exhaled and glanced down at her watch. “Sorry I’m in a hurry. Thank you and I apologize. Goodbye.”

Yoongi shook his head at the obviously insincere statements, but before he could make his retort, she was scurrying away, her heels clanking dangerously on the sidewalk.

"Everybody’s always in a hurry around here.“ he snorted as he jumped into his sparkling, sleek black car. He pulled his hood down and ruffled his newly dyed pink hair. "Oh well. Now where should I escape to?”

You huffed as you hurried to the Chairman’s office building. You were going to be a minute or two off schedule because of that hoodlum you had bumped into on the street. Luckily, the elevator was already on the main floor so you quickly boarded one and checked your reflection to make sure you were presentable. You pursed your lips as you found your stockings had formed a small rip from your fall and hurriedly made a note on your phone to sew it together later. The elevator doors opened and you found the Chairman walking past you, emerging from the adjacent elevator.

"Chairman Min!“ You called out brightly.

"Ah Y/N! I was worried I had kept you waiting.” he smiled warmly. “You’re always so early.”

"I’m sorry. I ran into some unexpected things earlier.“ you bowed and he chuckled.

"No, that’s perfectly normal, Y/N. You’re right on time. How it should be. Come in.”

You two entered his large office and his secretary set out tea for the two of you then left the room.

"How’s the company doing?“ he smiled as he took a sip.

"Well. Department Head Park is doing a great job handling it.” You answered.

"As are you.“ the Chairman complimented.

You bowed your head gratefully. "I’m just doing my job, Chairman.”

"And you’re absolutely fantastic Y/N. That’s why I’m enlisting your help with a rather personal matter. And I understand you’re close to Department Head Park to explain the situation as well.“

           You looked at him inquisitively.

"You see,” the Chairman glanced out of his window forlornly. “I’m getting old Y/N.”

"No you’re not, Chairman!“ You blinked, flustered at the topic.

He laughed, "Why thank you for that vote of confidence, but I’m afraid my age is increasing regardless of my youthful appearance, and I really want to retire in a couple of years.”

           You nodded understandably.

"With that being said, I believe I’ve spoken to you about my grandson?“

"A bit. About how he’s handful.” You smiled slightly, remembering the frustrations of the Chairman over his rebellious grandchild.

"He’s still a lot to handle.“ he chuckled. "But he is still the rightful heir to the company. The board of directors aren’t too keen about him, considering he’s done nothing much to help the company except act as the handsome face of it. But I know he has great potential and a good head on his shoulders. I think he just simply lost his parents too soon and I haven’t really been there for him as much as I should have. He never had a sense of direction or a guide.”

You remained silent, wondering where you were going to fit into all of this. As if hearing your thoughts, the Chairman’s eyes found its way to you and you straightened up, waiting.

"I want you to help him find direction. I want you to train him to be a great CEO, and a wonderful leader.“

Your mouth hung open, a million questions dangling on the tip of your tongue. Mostly, wondering how exactly you were supposed to do that. Sensing your hesitancy, the Chairman chuckled.

"Just be yourself Y/N. You’re so determined and passionate. You’re organized and a natural leader. You’re professional and on top of everything that needs to be done. I’m instating him as the Daegu branch’s new CEO, and I want you to work closely with him to show him how things are done. Keep an eye on him and keep him in line. And I hope your personality will be a good influence on him.”  He exhaled. “But I’m afraid you’re going to have an incredibly difficult time handling him, so I would double your pay as compensation, should you agree to help me. It’s a very important matter to me, and to the Min family. This company has been under our care since the beginning.”

Your mind was already locked onto the mention of “double pay”. He could tell your interest was piqued.

"And…“ the Chairman slipped a black credit card towards you. "Should he force you to buy him things, should he break anything, or should you have to chase him to across the world to drag him back to work, this card is linked to his account. I trust you’ll use it wisely for repayment… and revenge.”

Your eyes widened in surprise and spotted the Chairman’s eyes twinkling mischievously. You giggled understandably, and took the card off the table.

"I’d be honored to help you Chairman Min.“

"Thank you, Y/N. I know I ask a lot of you. Should you ever feel it to be too overwhelming, you can always back out from the deal, and I will take over from there.” he smiled warmly. “But I do have to stress and emphasize how important it is for your job as well. Should someone else come into power, I can’t promise to protect you.”

You stood up understandably and bowed. “I’ll do my best.”

"I know you will.“ he patted your shoulder encouragingly.

You grabbed your bag and headed for the door. But he called out, remembering something.

           "Oh Y/N.”

You stopped and turned to face him again.

"I do have one rule about this deal.“

           "Yes sir?”

His expression turned serious as he stared at you. You gulped, never seeing the Chairman without a smile before.

"Don’t fall in love with him, or else there will be consequences.“

You nodded slowly, "You have nothing to worry about, Chairman. Work is always work for me.”

"See to it that it is.“

           "Yes sir.”

           "Mr. Min.“

Yoongi exhaled as his tall, lean, broad shouldered bodyguard towered over him.

"Figures you would be the one to find me in the outskirts of town, Leo.”

The man’s face remained unmoving as he stood beside Yoongi, waiting.

"Well, have a seat. You’re scaring people as it is.“

"Yes, sir.” Leo bowed and obediently sat in front of him.

           "Do you want any food?“

"If you want to give me food, Mr. Min.”

Yoongi groaned. “Leo, are you hungry or not?”

Leo was about to say something but his stomach gurgled, doing the answering for him. The seemingly stoic man finally blushed and casted his eyes downwards, embarrassed.

Yoongi grinned, “Another order here ma'am!”

"Yes!“ the server called out enthusiastically.

"I’m sorry.” Leo bowed his head.

"Consider it a reward for always finding me.“

"I never lost you sir.” Leo muttered.

           "What? How?“

"I just thought you should know your Grandfather has been trying to contact you.” Leo handed him his cell phone. “You had left this behind in your escape. Then your car is a bit flashy and obvious so it wasn’t hard to track you on the road.”

Yoongi exhaled. “You didn’t want to take me back?”

"My job is to just protect you, Mr. Min.“ Leo glanced at him, as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. "I have no right to intervene in your life.”

Yoongi laughed loudly. “You’re always so interesting, Leo.”

           "Thank you sir.“

"Well? What did my gramps want this time? Is he mad about the last photo shoot and interview that I did without consulting him?” Yoongi smirked.

"No. He told me to say…“ Leo coughed lightly, a dust of pink forming on his cheeks, and reiterated verbatim. ”'I’m hiring you, you brat, so get off your lazy ass and get to work like other people your age! I texted you the address. If you want more details, join me for dinner.’.“

Yoongi chuckled as he continued munching on his meal. "Work, huh? He doesn’t consider doing photo shoots and interviews as work?”

"Well you never say anything in relation to the company.“ Leo responded.

"That was rhetorical, but thanks.” Yoongi stated flatly.

"What shall I report to him, sir?“ Leo questioned.

After a minute or two of contemplation, Yoongi’s lips curled up, "Hm…I guess I can’t turn down a free dinner. Let’s hear the old man out.”

"What do you mean someone else is going to be CEO??“ Jimin whined and melted into his seat sluggishly.

You had taken him out for dinner later that day to break the unfortunate news to him. You knew he was working his way up to become CEO and had had high hopes that he was going to get that promotion soon.

"It’s nothing on you, Jimin.” You patted his shoulder. “It’s the Chairman’s grandson so he got special perks.”

"WHAT?“ Jimin’s eyes widened and he sprang back to life. "The Chairman’s grandson is going to be in OUR branch?”

           "Um yeah…“

"Oh my goodness.” Jimin clapped. “That’s fantastic!”

"What?“ You furrowed your brow, wondering why his mood had completely flipped.

"He’s pretty famous in Daegu you know. People refer to him as ’D-boy’.”

"Why? Does he do like cool tricks or something?“

Jimin laughed. "Nah, it’s just his title really. It’s already crazy for Daegu to be home to the Headquarters of a big company as opposed to Seoul, but to have their very own 'celebrity’ too? Everyone hypes him up and he milks it. The public wants him and he doesn’t mind. He is a chaebol, the next heir to the company after all. He was born into the height of wealth and never had to work a day in his life. So I’m surprised he’s agreeing to be CEO. He sounded like he wanted nothing to do with the company in his interviews.”

"The Chairman himself said he was a handful.“ You exhaled. "And who knows if he agreed of his own accord.”

"Yeah…“ Jimin glanced at you. "Hopefully you don’t take this offensively, but he seems to be the complete opposite of you.”

"Why would that be offensive?“ you chuckled.

"Well regardless, you’re going to have your work cut out for you.” Jimin smiled, clearly amused.

           "Why do you think so?“

"You like to be in control of all the variables, Y/N.” Jimin chewed and pointed his fork towards you. “What’re you going to do if someone isn’t predictable and can’t be controlled by your schedules and time table?”

You chuckled. “Everybody and everything is predictable in some sense. I haven’t met anyone that I couldn’t coerce to work.”

"You’re such a manipulator.“ Jimin teased.

"Am not! I prefer an intelligent motivator.”

           "Ma-ni-pu-lator.“ Jimin sang.

           You huffed then continued eating.

"Well, I’m looking forward to it. I think work is going to get a whole lot more interesting if this guy is really a handful.” Jimin grinned as you rolled your eyes at his excitement.

"I don’t know about that. I mean how bad could the Chairman’s grandson be?“

"Mr. Min.” Leo stood at his bedroom door as Yoongi was half-way out of his window, ready to make yet another escape.

Yoongi groaned at being caught. “I’m just going to walk around, okay?”

"Are you going to check out the company your Grandfather is assigning you to?“

Yoongi furrowed his brows. "How’d you know?”

"You wrote it on that post-it note on your desk.“ Leo pointed out nonchalantly.

Yoongi huffed and stepped out of the window completely, landing on the fire escape. "Yes I am. So don’t bother following me. I’ll be back soon.”

           Leo nodded. “As you wish.”

"Great.“ Yoongi was going to make his way down when Leo suddenly poked his head out of the window, causing him to flinch.

           "Geez Leo! What?” Yoongi snapped.

"Mr. Min.“ Leo handed Yoongi his cell phone. "You were about to forget this again.”

"Ah…“ Yoongi laughed nervously and slipped it into his pocket. "Thanks.”

Leo nodded and pushed down the window with a definitive thud.

Yoongi chuckled and shook his head. His main bodyguard was really something else. He pulled his mask over his mouth and flipped his snap-back backwards, hiding his obnoxiously pink hair underneath. Pushing his hands into his over-sized sweater’s pockets, he made his way to the company his grandfather had insisted for him to take.

"Y/N.“ One of the office interns hurriedly called you, out of breath.

"What happened?” You glanced at her worriedly.

"Someone’s trying to enter the company and causing a ruckus in the main lobby. They wanted to see who was in charge here.“ she frowned. "Department Head Park is in a meeting so….”

"I’ll take care of it, okay?“ You smiled at her reassuringly then flew down the stairs to get to the lobby.

You walked over to the security guards blocking off the entrance to the office floors. They relaxed as they spotted you and gestured towards the man dressed in all black leaning against the wall arrogantly and clearly irritated. He looked suspicious with a mask covering half of his face and a hood casting a shadow over what was visible. But you caught sight that his eyes were sharp and piercing. He was a bit intimidating.

Encouraging yourself, you puffed out your chest confidently and marched up to him.

           "How can I help you?”

He visibly scanned you up and down then clapped, surprising you.

"You’re the rude lady from the other day!“

"Excuse me?” You raised an eyebrow.

He pulled down his mask to reveal his full face, grinning. “We bumped into each other and you didn’t apologize properly. Remember?”

"Ah. Did you follow me all the way here to get an apology?“ You glared skeptically.

He scoffed. "Don’t flatter yourself lady. I just wanted to tour the company, but these goons won’t let me through. What kind of place are you running here?”

You exhaled incredulously. “I’m not sure who you think you are, but there are rules and regulations in the workplace. First, if you have an appointment, you should have seen the receptionist over there and they would have contacted whoever you were supposed to meet with. Second, you can’t come barging into a professional building dressed like you’re lounging around your house or hollering at chicks on the street.”

The man laughed loudly. “Excuse me? I’ll have you know these are all expensive brands of clothes. And who are you to judge my appearance? Your stockings have a hole in it.”

You hurriedly glanced down and bit your lip. There really was a new rip in your pantyhose. Heat traveled to your cheeks from embarrassment and anger. You raised your head and gave a threatening look to the gentleman.

"I’m sorry if I said anything to offend you, but you have no business here. You’re scaring away our workers and taking time away from their day. I have to kindly ask you to leave.“

"You’ll regret asking me to leave and saying all those mean things about me.” he smirked.

"This is my company, sir. Please leave before I have to get rough.“

"Oh?” the man chuckled. “You? Rough?”

You blushed and gestured to the security guards who began approaching the man. He hurriedly scurried to distance himself.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let me make a call and show you that I really do have the right to be here.“

You furrowed your brow and lifted a hand to stop the guards.

"What makes you think that’ll change anything?”

The man glanced over at your badge as he dialed his phone. “Miss Y/N, is it?”

           "What–“

He raised his hand as he spoke into his phone, cutting you off mid-sentence. "Hi old man. Still kicking? Well, I’m at the company you asked me to check out but someone named Y/N is telling me I shouldn’t be here.”

You glanced around at the growing crowd in the lobby. Jimin emerged at the front of it, his eyes wide at seeing you on the scene. He gave you a questioning look and you shrugged. You really had no idea what was happening.

"Facetime you? Wow. So high tech.“

The man swiped at his phone and handed it to you. You fumbled with it and nearly dropped the phone when the Chairman’s face appeared on the screen.

           "Ch-chairman!” You gasped.

"Hello Y/N.“ he chuckled. "I see my grandson is already giving you a hard time.”

You gasped and glanced over at the man in front of you who was grinning triumphantly.

           "Oh my goodness…I’m so sorry…Chairman I didn’t kn–.“

"No, no. That brat should know better than to dress like that. Let me talk to him.”

You nervously handed the phone back to its owner.

"YOONGI! How dare you interrupt their work?!“ the Chairman’s voice roared.

"Well I was just gonna take a look and not bother anyone but THEY made a big deal of everything.”

"And they should! You look like a delinquent right now!“

"That’s hurtful gramps.” The man clutched his chest playfully. “Well I’ve seen enough so I’m gonna go old man. Thanks for vouching for my awesomeness.”

           "Yoong–“

The man hung up nonchalantly, not letting his grandfather finish speaking, and extended his arm out to you; his smirk clearly jeering at you for your grave mistake.

           "Now let’s try this again.”

He grabbed your hand forcefully and shook it.

"I’m Min Yoongi, the grandson of the Chairman, the new CEO of this company, and well… your new boss.“

           He grinned cheekily.

"Now Miss Y/N, what did you say about me having no business here?”

Top 9 Animated Shows of 2016

I don’t wish to mince words.  2016 sucked.  It sucked a lot.  In addition to losing several beloved celebrities, including Alan Young, Alan Rickman, David Bowie, just to name a handful, my family lost two pets in as many months, and dealt with several other personal losses that, I’ll be honest, has really dashed my holiday spirits this year.

It’s been a rough time, but one of the reasons that I adore animation is that it is the window to the fantastic, a mirror of the soul whose only restrictions are the imagination of the writers and artists.  They are my escape, and my passion.  I believe that a good story and good animation can take you on a journey that can rival any book.  I believe that with all of my heart.

And while 2016 definitely sucked in many, MANY respects…It did not in the Animation department.  With several incredible films including  Moana, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Zootopia, and a strong stable of Animated Television shows as well.  And so for this list, I’m going to included my Nine Favorite shows from 2016.  I will also include the best places to watch said shows online, if you feel like checking them out for yourself.

Without further adu:

9) Kulipari: An Army of Frogs

Where can I watch it?: Netflix Exclusive

Why is it worth my time?: A stellar voice cast including Josh Keaton, Keith David, Charlie Adler, and Mark Hamill–just to name a few.  Character designs by Greg Guler, and snappy writing and direction from Tad Stones.  This is an all around strong show that is tons of fun to watch.  It’s biggest weakness is it is a touch formulaic (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) but the writing, characters, and animation make up for it.

8) Milo Murphy’s Law

Where Can I Watch It?: Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney XD App

Why is it worth my time?: From the creative team behind Phineas and Ferb comes the series about Milo Murphy.  The descendant of Edward Murphy, Milo is a afflicted with his curse.  For Milo, anything that CAN go wrong, always WILL go wrong.  What makes it interesting is that Milo goes about his life crazy-prepared, and with an infectiously positive attitude.  Not hurt by the fact that the titular character is voiced by non other than “Weird” Al Yankovic.  With the writing team of Phineas and Ferb, and a star like Weird Al on your billing, naturally many episodes have a fun musical number.  This show is sure to lift your spirits if you’re just having a Milo Murphy kind of day.

7) Star vs. The Forces of Evil

Where can I watch it?: Disney XD, Disney XD App, Hulu (Season 1 only, as of 12/25/16)

Why is it worth my Time? This fun little show has really started growing the beard since its debut last year.  With an ongoing mystery about Star’s family history underlying the second season, one definitely gets the feeling that much more is going on beneath the surface.

6) Voltron: Legendary Defender

Where can I watch it?: Netflix Exclusive

Why is it worth my time?: I was never a fan of the original Voltron.  It was before my time. But hearing Josh Keaton–One of my favorite voice actors–Sing the praises of this show over and over again on twitter got me hyped.  Nor was I to be disappointed, for this show was a treat.  There’s distinct nods to the Classic show–Which again, I never saw, but I NEVER once felt like I was missing anything important.  Indeed, I enjoyed every second of this show’s first season, and the amazing cliffhanger it left us on.  I never had any doubts that it would get a second season, and I can’t wait to actually catch that season next month.

5) Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir

Where can I watch it?: Nickelodeon, iTunes, Netflix (Starting February 14th)

Why is it worth my time?: I hadn’t heard of this show before a few weeks ago, but now I feel like I seriously missed out.  After after asking some friends, they heartily recommended this French Cartoon.  I dove right into it.  The show is very formulaic, but makes up for it with a great mythology, fun characters, and a downright adorable two-person love square (in which the titular heroes are in love with each other, but due to being ignorant of each others secret identities are in love with the wrong personas, preventing them from actually hooking up) Season 2 drops in May, and promises a shakeup of the status quo dominating the formulaic nature of the episodes, and I can’t wait to see it.

4) Steven Universe

Where can I watch it?: Cartoon Network, Cartoon Network App, Hulu

Why is it worth my time?: This show continues to grow an already impressive beard, and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping.  It’s become rather famous within Nerd Circles for the clever writing, long term plot planning, and amazing cast of characters.

3) Star Wars: Rebels

Where can I watch it?: iTunes, Disney XD, Disney XD App

Why is it worth my time?: This show has been getting better and better each season.  The scrappy crew of The Ghost actually makes me give a crap about Star Wars, in ways I never expected.  As they face down the Empire, while exploring the deep, rich mythology available in the Star Wars Universe.  Bonus points in having some of the scariest villains on TV.  Darth Vader’s appearances on the show actually show why he was an effectively scary villain, delivering a curb stomp battle on our heroes every time he meets them.   And General Thrawn of the current season actually makes me feel like the Rebels have lost ground every time he appears on screen.  Bonus points for fans of the recent film installment Rogue One; that movie is littered with easter eggs and references to this series.  Most obviously?  Look for the Ghost fighting in the battle above Scarif.

2) Trollhunters

Where can I watch it?: Netflix Exclusive

Why is it worth my time?: From the brilliant mind of Guillermo del Toro comes a coming-of-age story that, Quite frankly, is everything I look for in a fantasy series.  This is the show that I want to watch when I think I want to watch a fantasy series.  Starring the late Anton Yelchin as Jim Lake Jr, this show features an all star cast of multi-faceted heroes, villains, and lots of…Grey areas.  I cannot praise this show enough.  It only arrived on Netflix two days ago (as of the writing of this post) and it is one of the best animated shows of the year.  The season finale had me in tears at the end.  And the cliffhanger promises even more great fantasy in the next season (which I very much hope we get, even if del Toro will have to recast the lead due to Anton Yelchin’s sad and unfortunate passing.  Every episode is dedicated to his memory)

1) Gravity Falls

Where can I watch it?: Hulu, iTunes

Why is it worth my time?: Gravity Falls remains my second favorite animated show of all time (Though Trollhunters came very close to knocking it down to third.) and it came to an incredibly satisfying conclusion in the early part of this year.  Creator Alex Hirsch chose to end the show on a very high note, closing all of the major story arcs, while still leaving quite a few mysteries left for the fans to decipher.  (Literally in many cases) This is a show about Family, with amazing writing, awesome voice work (much provided by creator Alex Hirsch himself) and a deep, rich inner mythology, this show will be one that I return to again and again.

And that’s it.  Those are the Nine Shows I enjoyed the most from this hellhole of a year known as 2016.  I hope that these little blurbs encourage you to check out at least one of these shows.  Or even all of them.  And I hope that they bring you the same joy that they’ve brought me this year.

God Bless, and have a Merry Christmas,

~~The Disney Wizard.

Here’s the book meme thingy I was tagged in by the exquisite @batmanisagatewaydrug.

1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest? I’ve owned my copy of The Eyes of the Dragon since I was in second grade, and it’s not going anywhere any time soon. I’ve also owned my Harry Potter books for fuck-all ever, to the point where they’re literally falling apart. Like, to the point where Chamber of Secrets has been held together by packing tape since like, middle school.

2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next? I’m bouncing between The Graveyard Book, The Wizard and the Glass, and The Collected Short Stories of H.G. Wells. I just finished Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs and reread Coraline. Next is… oh gods, I have so much sitting in my Audible library. On the physical book front, it’ll be Wolves of the Calla, since I want to finish The Dark Tower before the movie comes out. On the listening front… probably between Wuthering Heights and Four Past Midnight. But that could easily change on a whim.

3. Which book does everyone like and you hated? I have never and will never understand The Hunger Games hype. They basically put me off YA for like four years. Also, I know this isn’t exactly novel (HAH), but FUCK Ernest Hemmingway. Fuck your old man and his shitty boat and his shitty fish. I love To Kill a Mockingbird, but absolutely detest the way it’s taught in schools. As a social commentary, it’s worthless. As a coming-of-age novel, it’s practically perfect.

4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t? So many. Soooo many. Anything by Isaac Asimov, a whole lot of Dickens (I really like Dickens, but that “paid by the word” thing did the man no favors), uuuuuum. I keep telling myself I’m going to return to Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, which I started and never finished and SWEAR I’M GOING TO GO BACK TO SOMEDAY BUT OH GOD IT’S BEEN FIVE YEARS I’MMMMMM SOOOOOORRY TONI. A whole lot of poetry (here’s looking at you, Dickinson). A bunch I’m forgetting. Oh, and The Vampire Chronicles. Still, now that I’m working overnights and can listen to audiobooks eight hours per night, my rate of reading has practically quadrupled and there’s a good chance that I’ll use that as an excuse to finally get around to all of these.

5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?” I’m dying by twenty-six, so I gotta shove all those words in now.

6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end?

Not since I was a little kid reading Goosebumps and had to know what bullshit twist R.L. Stine’s ghostwriter of the week would come up with this time.

7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside? It’s a popular misconception that writing a book is a solo endeavor, and it’s self-indulgent bullshit. No book is an island, and the people that surround it deserve credit.

8. Which book character would you switch places with? Oh frick. Maybe not switching place with a specific character, but I want to be friends with the Hempstocks from The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)? Matilda reminds me of when I was a little kid and books were the most magical thing in the world. Like, they still are, but there’s something about it that just recalls the innocence with which I could view literature as a kid. Hard same for A Series of Unfortunate Events. Jurassic Park was the first “adult” novel I ever read, and introduced me to a whole new idea of what books could be. IT reminds me of middle school summertime, devouring books on the beach while I wiggled my toes in the sand. The Eyes of the Dragon made me love fairytales, and years later Stardust reminded me why I love them.

10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way. Um… I have a bunch of classics (Lord of the Flies, Brave New World, 1984, a few others) that I nicked from a storage room in my high school of books that used to be part of the literary curriculum but hadn’t been touched in about twelve years.

11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person? I gave a really nice gold-leaf fancy-pantsy edition of Huck Finn I got from my Nana and Papa to one of my old friends because I forgot to buy him a birthday present. I also stole like, a dozen Discworld books from him, so it more than evens out.

12. Which book has been with you to the most places? The Eyes of the Dragon has been with me on at least five or six trips as a kid (I used to travel a lot with my dad for business), and has been with me everywhere I’ve lived.

13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later? The opposite, actually. I read Gatsby for the first time on my own, absolutely loathed it, reread it my Senior year for AP Lit and loved it.

14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book? I found an old bus ticket from the early Nineties in my copy of A Confederacy of Dunces

15. Used or brand new? Both. Books. Just… books. Both have their own unique smell and feel that I love for different reasons.

16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses? Don’t know, don’t care. All I know is that he’s my book dad and always will be. He was the writer that made me believe that I could actually be a writer through On Writing. The Eyes of the Dragon is my favorite book and the one that’s influenced me more than any other. A lot of his books kind of blow, but when you’ve put out the sheer amount of words that he has, you’re bound to have a few stinkers. When the man hits the vein of a story, he hits it hard. I can’t imagine my middle school years without The Talisman or Firestarter or my high school years without Misery or IT. Speaking of, I’ve been waiting for the new IT movie since it was stuck in development hell however many years ago, and I’m absolutely going to cry in the theatre if it sucks. I don’t even need it to be good, I just need the relationships between the kids to be done well. They’re my children, dammit, and I love them so much.

17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book? American Psycho is unequivocally better than the book and nothing will ever convince me otherwise. Ditto for Fight Club. I don’t know if I’d say that Stand by Me is technically better than the book, but it’s also tied for my favorite movie of all time. A Clockwork Orange is in a similar boat. And Holes. OH. I can’t believe I almost forgot The Silence of the Lambs. I adore the movie, but the book runs almost entirely on the “male author wants to fuck his lady protagonist” trope, and eeeeeeew.

18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid? Um… now seems like as good of a time to shit on the majority of Stephen King adaptations as ever. Like, I get that this is by no means a new observation, but fuck. Speaking of, I am so confused by the “dOnT rEmAkE iT tHe OrIgInAl WaS a CLASSIC” crowd. The miniseries is ass and the only redeeming factor is Tim Curry because, well… Tim Curry.

19. Have you ever read a book that’s made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question? See my previous comment about wanting to be friends with the Hempstocks. I want that blackberry jam, dammit.

20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take? Um, I’ll basically read anything that @batmanisagatewaydrug throws my way. She’s like my only book friend (and my best friend) so I sort of figure out what I want to read on my own. Oh, I have been working on some of Neil’s recommendations from The View from the Cheap Seats, which has been rewarding so far (@Diana Wynn Jones, where were you all my life?).

I tag no one because I don’t have book friends (ahem ahem, HINT HINT IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEE THIS AND LOVE BOOKS FOR THE LOVE OF GODS HIT ME UP), but I will tag back @batmanisagatewaydrug just to prove I actually did it.

Masterlist

Jury.

I am no author, nor a man of any knowledge or experience in writing. But, I, Harold Edward Styles, am here to write my defense for my trial. The trial of a robbery I freely admit to committing.

People of the Jury, before I begin to explain myself in the most confidential of ways, I want to make clear that I am not trying to plea myself innocent. The robbery was a crime I can admit I had participated in. I am in no position to lie about my own decisions. However, I feel I am no criminal. You see, there are many people like me. There are too many people like me. People who drown in the toxic they feed themselves; burn in the ashes they’ve inhaled. It seems as though throughout the time I have been held captive in my own self-destructive mind that there was no release. We can test ourselves; create many scenarios on ourselves to feel some sort of unnoticed security. What we don’t realize is that it actually makes the matter of the cause worse, if it wasn’t the worst to begin with.

To me, what had happened had to be the worse, and if it wasn’t, then I don’t want to ever run into a nightmare more horrific than this.

Ladies and gentlemen, for us humans to get to this point, it takes more than an unsatisfactory comment, or an act of betrayal. It’s not the pain of our own unjust actions. We can believe that every human has to answer to a higher calling, and that it’s the only way we can we rid ourselves of the pain we are in. For me, it’s not that at all. It’s the pain from losing someone.

Think of the term “mass murder.” The act of murdering a significant amount of people, humans, simultaneously or over a short duration of time. This is what happened to me. Well, not to me, but to my family.

My brother, Alfie, and I are the only survivors of the heinous crime. We were the only two left alive, untouched, unharmed—unharmed in the physical term, that is. We were harmed, emotionally, left scarred, exposed, alone. Left to fend for ourselves, and in my case, left to care for my little brother, when I was barely capable to care for myself.

The murder was committed on December 17 of 1993.

It was during a numbingly cold night. The power had gone out after a series of winds and blizzards that had taken over the town. I was out at a local bar, Cheers, it was called, downing countless shots of whiskey, smoking our cigarettes, in honor of a guys night out. I was out with my childhood mates, enjoying the time with them after coming back for the holidays. It wasn’t too festive, we weren’t planning it that way. It was casual, just six men going for a drink. Innocently.

The wind was blowing quite harshly that night, I remember. We were planning on leaving, but we figured it would be best to wait until the storm had passed. Besides, it had only been a solid hour, and catching up wasn’t anywhere near done.

It wasn’t until around 2 a.m and when the winds had settled down and the snowing had calmed when we decided it was time to head back home. I remember once I was on the road back to my house that I had called my girlfriend at the time, as you know to be Y/n Y/l/n. She was visiting the states for the funeral of her aunt, who had committed suicide due to the divorce of her and her husband. She was explaining her trip so far, and how her family has been holding up with the recent death. She claimed she needed to stay longer in the states because her mum wasn’t holding up the way she had expected. Apparently she had become her own personal wreck, and that she had been turning to bottles of gin to help “cleanse the depression”, as Y/n had said. After hanging up with her, I remember being only a couple blocks away from home. I had expected my family to be sleeping by the time I had gotten back. It was late and by the looks of the town, the power had still not come back on.

Everything after that was a blur, and the only thing in my memory that has remained clear was arriving home, tired from the whiskey, and seeing blood drench the walls of my home. It was everywhere. A handprint on the door, that seemed to have left no fingerprints. Drops of my family’s insides dripping from the walls. It was everywhere I turned. It was surrounding me, taunting me. It was as if it was perfectly designed to kill a part of me along with my family, whose bodies were lying dead, limp on top of one another, on the floor in my living room.

Somewhere, between my haziness and my disturbance I ended up trying to revive them. As if somehow my shaking hands and desperate cries and begs were so powerful as to wake the dead. I wasn’t sure what I was doing. I was only 18 and it was the only thing that felt right.

I remember the sound of crying, and I wasn’t clear whether it was mine at first, but after a couple of moments, it turned to screams. I wasn’t screaming. I was too distraught to scream, and my throat was sore from the crying. Tracking down the mysterious screams and cries, I found my little brother, Alfie, hiding in one of the kitchen cabinets. He was in fetal position when I found him. He was sobbing, screaming, trembling. I held him. I held him to keep him together—to keep us together, and I refused to let him go until police and investigators had showed up. Alfie and I were no longer permitted to stay inside at that point, which I am sure he didn’t mind. I surely didn’t, anyway.

An investigator by the name of Detective Declan had asked us a series of questions. Where were you at the time of the murder? Alfie, did you see who did this? Has anybody in the family had any problems with another individual? Do you have any idea how this could have happened?

I do not remember my answers to these questions, however, there are three absolutes I have no qualms about. I was absolute in my response to where I had been. Out with some mates, out having a good time, while my family was being mutilated. I am absolutely positive Alfie was the last to have seen our family and saw what transpired. And, I am absolutely positive that my family had not had any problems with another individual, as far as I was concerned, we were naturally an exclusive family.

To this day, nearly one year later, and maybe even two, depending on the time you are reading this, I still manage to have flashbacks of this. It was only a couple of weeks, or months, ago when events started to unfold again in my memory. They were little moments, moments my body and brain were able to handle; giving little glimpses of events like a film that has lost its frames. Tiny segments that exposed themselves to me, yet left the most important details hidden. I do, however, distinctly remember that after the murder I had to move in with Y/n in a small town of Holmes Chapel, since she had come straight back to England after she had received the news about my family. It wasn’t until after Alfie and I had moved in with her that I discovered more things about her than I ever have before. I was able to capture her intriguing beauty, capture the delicacy she was. She was beautiful, I remember observing, so pure and delicate. Her movements matched her voice, which matched her personality—soft, gentle, innocent, just like her favorite song. The one she sang every morning. She always sat in the same position, hiding behind a cigarette, doing the same thing between 7 and 8 a.m. Her bare feet were always propped up on our wooden table. Her right ankle always on top of the left, bouncing it up and down as she sang I Know It’s Over by The Smiths. This was the time she was most herself, I suppose. She was always willing to talk then, always willing to open up her most secretive and private thoughts. Throughout the duration of these most treasured moments, I almost forgot who she truly was.

Luckily, for me, I was the one that was able to admire her during her time of sanity.

It was a little while after I moved in when we began to struggle with money. With neither of us working (which now that I look back on, was a very stupid and unwise decision, especially if we were taking care of Alfie), and neither of us managing our budgets, we were threatened with the loss our home. Y/n was finally able to secure a minimum wage job, and we both agreed that taking care of Alfie would be my responsibility. Alfie, and I, became solely dependent on Y/n.

This, in my mind, was the most perfect opportunity to do what needed to be done.

This, here, ladies and gentlemen of the Jury, was when I came up with the crime that has placed me in this position. I planned on robbing a bank, but not for the reason you may believe.

I remember my plans for that day exactly—the day of the robbery. Frame by frame, I remember what happened, and also know it wasn’t what I envisioned. For me to tell you is not hard. I am not under oath. Figuratively, yes, I am. I am under the oath to not lie to or deceive God. Personally, I am not. I do not believe in God. No God would create the things I have seen. And since I am not in any way in oath to anybody or anything other than myself, lying would be more stupid than what I have done.

Y/n, my darling Y/n, she was standing still, as if observing her surroundings. Her thumb pressed down the knuckles of her fingers, something she had always done when she was nervous. The air blew gusts of white winds against us, the ends of her untamed blonde hair flying behind her. I wish I could have seen her entire face, not just her cold blue eyes. I wanted to see the indescribable beauty that had only been seen in magazines, the beauty that most people have never been fortunate to experience. I wanted to study her. I wanted to remember her face before the tragedy that was to come before us. But who she was then wasn’t what she used to be. The further down her face, just under the dark circles of her eyes, a balaclava was covering the rest of her. Hiding her face, hiding the person she had become.

I remember our gun not working at first. She kept hitting the weapon with an open palm. Her eyebrows were creased inwards, looking as if something had gone wrong. What more could have gone wrong?

With the gun finally loaded, we were more than positive it was time to head into the bank. My adrenaline seemed to have increased. My body was shaking, my hands sweating, my breath shallow and broken. But on top of all the nervousness and tenseness, I remember kissing her between our fabric-covered faces, for this would be the last time I would do so.

It was when we entered the bank that the plan had come into action. We both had our guns in the air, screaming at the bankers for all of the held money that was hidden in the building. They screamed against their will, claiming that the money will not be given to us. Y/n and I suspected that the responses to our demands would be nothing but objections. In this case, we were able to threaten the manager with his life if the combination of the vault was not given to us. He was quick to oblige, I remember. He didn’t object to any of our instructions, and had given us the combination that led to the 2 million euros that we would soon steal.

Y/n then fired gun. The shot was at nobody in particular, just an action to manipulate the victims. “Put these on! Everybody put these on!” Y/n screamed, throwing each person in our view a single orange jump suit that we had brought with us. They were scared and intimidated enough to follow our instructions, and soon enough, everybody held hostage in the building was now wearing an orange jump suit, including Y/n and I.

The room turned from crazy to chaotic. People were crying, nobody knew who the robbers were. We had all looked the same. All in orange jump suits, no person with a gun in hand anymore, no faces covered.

Once we reached the vault, entered the combination, and were no in clear view of the cash, she was quick to collect all of the remaining money. Her hands moved fast as she placed the stacks of money in her purse very carefully.

The money was then in our possession.

When we were about to leave, Y/n grabbed my wrist gently. She looked at me with those cold blue eyes, boring into me that I nearly forgot what our task was, however, she pulled me back.

“Take this bag, Harold. And put on your mask, trust me on this. Climb out the window when you reach the hall, alright? Run the second you exit this building. Okay?”

Her eyes didn’t leave mine when she instructed me, and I ended up doing what she asked. I took her purse gently from her shoulder, reaching in for the mask I had worn previously that was now under all the money. I slipped it over my head, only my eyes uncovered from this moment on.

She reached my hand, I remember, kissing the knuckles of my fingers. She smiled, almost evilly, but I remembered thinking it was because we were about to get away with robbery. However, I could have never been more wrong.

When I climbed out of the window in the hallway, police were surrounding me, guns pointing at me from every direction my eyes could see. My breathing slowed, I was almost suffocating. I dropped the bag from my hands, placing my arms above my head with reluctance. She had planned this, this whole time, she knew this was going to happen. The second I planted my feet on those grounds, I was a goner, a destined felon.

I was thrown against the building, being hit and spit on, handcuffed, my words then being used against us in the court of law.

I looked up at her, through the window. She was smiling, smoking her pack of cigarettes, as if this was a dream come true for her. She blew me a kiss, flicking the ashes from her cigarette down upon her feet.

Now, Jury, I know what you’re asking, or what you’ve been asking. What does the murder of my family have to do with my trial for robbing a bank? How had the murder of my family lead me to commit this crime?

Luckily for you, I happen to have an answer.

Y/n, the founder of my soul, the fire to my heart, my wonderful, beautiful, psychotic girlfriend, had kidnapped me.

Jury! My Y/n, my soul, my heart, my desire and life had completely held me captive in her beauty. What she did, it wasn’t done with originality, nor was it in the process of being acted upon with a well functioning brain. What she had done wasn’t normal. It wasn’t expected. It was a new stage of crime. She didn’t take me away in physical darkness. Mental darkness, maybe, but not physical. She didn’t take me away when I was alone in the middle of an abandoned alley with vulnerability taking over me. No. She was more careful than that, she was much smarter than that. It was a slow process, not something that could have been planned overnight.

I know she had committed the murder of my family. I know she had.

A couple of weeks before the murder, I had began to drink more frequently. I was too succumbed in my addictions of drugs and alcohol to have any intentions of communicating with her. She became my first priority to my last within a matter of days. I had only used her for my own bodily desires, and within those couple of months I was becoming too disconnected. I had even slept with numerous other women, too intoxicated to even notice the wrong.

This was also during the time my parents have been persuading me to dump my beautiful Y/n. They claimed she was psychotic, dragging my own sanity down with hers. They claim she will ruin the family, to leave her in the dust so that I can become the healthy, smart man I was supposed to become. However, picturing a day without her beautiful face was nonexistent. She has hypnotized me completely, and there was no getting rid of her.

It wasn’t until after the murder and after depression had completely taken over me that I had noticed my lovely Y/n to be more attached to me. She rarely let me leave the house, and if I did, it had to be with her guidance. She disconnected my phone, claiming that the murderer of my family could later chase after me. She sold my car, explaining that we had needed the money in order for us to look after Alfie with our greatest intentions. At first, in my entirely naive mind, I thought she was nervous that over a period of time, she will lose me like I had lost them. Like, maybe, she was holding onto me because she was worried for me. But it was after nearly four months of her loving me too much that I had realized that she was holding on to me so dearly because I was able to hold her like she had held me.

What had really made me figure out that she was the one that had executed my family was when the topic of her trip to the states was mentioned. Whenever Alfie and I had any curiosity about her stay, she always gave short answers. Quick responses with an immediate change of the subject. Y/n, I must say, was always a private person; very secure of herself. So at first, this did not concern me. What did concern me, however, was her lack of evidence that she had even left her home in Holmes Chapel. She was always the type of girl to buy a new book from every different place she had explored. From French fiction, La Recherche du Temps Perdu, to Russian classics, Lolita, to Slovenia novelas, Trik Je v Tem da Brathing. She was always the woman to get a book as a souvenir wherever she had gone.

On top of this, photographs on her polaroid were not taken, which was extremely rare of her. She was always on it, snapping pointless pictures of buildings, people, outfits she had wanted to wear, and even strange people she had found interesting. She was always one to capture the beauty of things, which was one of the primary reasons as to why I had fallen in love with her.

I had figured out through the process of her actions that she had murdered my family to be closer to me. It was clear that she was the only woman I was allowed to be with. Maybe the only person I was allowed to be with. I was held hostage with whom I was grown to believe was my safety and love. But in reality, I was held hostage to a murderer, a monster, a brute.

How did I not know this? Why did I just figure this out? She was in front of me the whole time and I was too blinded by her beauty and by the thought of her that I could not see. I couldn’t see, ladies and gentlemen! Was I just as mental as the women I had slept with every night or was I my own self-destructive maniac?

It was because of her course of action that I had decided to rob the bank. Not just because I wanted to fix our financial issues and keep our home, no. I wanted to get her arrested for her twisted, sickening, disgusting mind. Since the case of the murder of my family had been dropped due to lack of evidence, I needed her to be imprisoned. Whether it was for closure or for the injustice she has created, I wanted her arrested.

I hadn’t planned on getting caught, actually, but caught I was. I had planned on leaving back to the front of the building by the time Y/n was collecting the money from the vault. I planned to act like a victim under Y/n, the criminal.

However, I am guessing she had figured out my plan before the robbery, possibly by my lack of privacy, writing out every bit of my plan in my journal. So she had reversed the roles by using her twisted mind, manipulating me by her infatuating beauty. She knows what she does, and does it without a trace of guilt. It’s her specialty, her weapon.

Although I question how Alfie is doing when I’m alone in my cellar, I do know he is safe. I made sure that he’s safe. Before my plan, I sent him to stay with our aunt for a few days. This would distract him from what we were going to do. Y/n didn’t know of this, especially since I refused to have Alfie be near her without my presence.

For this, I am able to keep my sanity.

It’s hard for me to confess that I am still in love with my dearest. Her beauty and poise had captivated me in her insanity. I am still under her control, I feel like. I feel like I will always be.

Ladies and gentlemen, I do not care for your verdict. I just want my Y/n in jail for the rest of her life. I want her trapped the way she had trapped me. I want her to grow more insane than she already was. I want her to be tortured.

I hope this letter has helped my trial. I hope this was of benefit to you. I apologize for the troubles of my crime, and I apologize for my actions. I hope my reasoning is understandable. And I hope that there is a lessoned learned throughout my reasoning. I want you to remember, Jury, that you can feel love for anybody in this damned world, but always remember this lesson of which I had learned in the duration of my time being with my Y/n. The surface of a person’s soul could be the most beautiful thing you encounter, and it will make you believe you have everything you have ever dreamt of. But our minds betray us, and our eyes begin to disguise the dirt on purpose, just to satisfy ourselves.

Always be on guard. Always protect yourself. And always, always be prepared for the worst.

Sincerely,

Harry Edward Styles.

Sooooo... I binge-watched GLOW in one day. And I regret nothing.

I really enjoyed the first season of GLOW on Netflix and I’m happy to see that it’s been getting a lot of positive feedback and support around the internet. I guess I shouldn’t be too shocked since the series was produced by the same team who created Orange is the New Black, but since I don’t watch that show, I didn’t have any real expectations for it to be as good as it was.

Overall, I thought it was incredibly well done, and like I said in an earlier post, I think it’s great how most of the episodes were directed by women. I only saw a couple of douchebags on the internet say something negative that was on par with your typical misogyny.

Anyways, here are my thoughts as I watched the show and failed to talk myself out of watching 8 of the episodes in a row with no break. The list below isn’t in any particular order.

Beware: Mild spoilers below.

Why Mika is still my favorite in these past chapters of OnS

Some people say bad things about Mika and question many fans about why we kept ‘praising’ him or something in the recent chapters of OnS. Many think we like him and hate Guren simply because we’re ‘Mika fangirls/boys’ and he only thinks about Yuu yadda yadda.

But that’s exactly my reason.

Look, Mika hates vampires for killing his family and turning him into one of them without consent. He hates humans because they’ve experimented on him and the other orphans and seems they still does so to Yuu when he was with them after the escape 4 years ago. And to those who had only watched the anime, they didn’t animate the flashback wherein Mika had been on a mission to one of the experimenting facilities and saw another kid whose part seraph. The kid even asked Mika to kill them. He saw something like that so why do you think he’s worried about Yuu? He also hates himself for being a ‘monster’.

All he cares about now is Yuu’s happiness and safety.

So if he only cares about Yuu and is losing his humanity, won’t that mean he should be the 1st one to agree with Yuu on the whole ‘Revive the kids and risk another apocalypse’ plan?

I mean if it fails and what happens 8 years ago happens again, the ones who will die are adults - many of which might be from the JIDA who did the experiments. Plus since Mika apparently only cares about Yuu, the kids being alive again would make Yuu happy and they’d get their family back - the only ones that are supposed to matter.

But no. Mika, in a group filled with mostly humans is the only one who thinks it’s a bad idea and it might kill off what’s left of humanity.

Yeah, the one who said it is the same guy who claims to hate everything (even himself) except Yuu and wouldn’t care about others. He, against the idea of humans he’s with. The humans who should care a lot more about the fate of the rest of humanity.

You know, I would’ve liked to support Yuu and the whole revival thing, believe me but the way it happened made me say ‘no’. If they had clues or a plan (no matter how crazy) to how they’re gonna do the ritual again, I might have thought there’s hope. Sadly, after hearing the story from Ferid and thinking about it a little they just thought of doing it again. Without an alternate plan and just thinking ‘Hey, it might be different this time!’ like playing russian roulette with people’s future. (I know about the books in the basement but them planning it happened before they saw those things). Yuu even said something along the lines of being willing to risk it for what he cares about. Far cry from the kind Yuu we were introduced to at the beginning of the series. And don’t say something like, Yuu is now part demon and stuff. He might have an excuse, his friends don’t.

So who else to believe in right now but Mika? Sadly, Kagami is making the poor boy suffer… again.

What are some of the best Kennedy documents/films/biographies? I'd really love to learn more about the clan 😊

Hi there ! Sorry for my (very) late reply, I’m the worst - I see a message and then I forget all about it :(

Okay so here’s a list of my favorite stuff (**will update) :

Biographies

- The Joan Kennedy Story : Living with the Kennedys, by Marcia Chellis (1985) : Marcia was Joan’s personal assistant for 2-3 years, starting in 1979. They went through the 1980 presidential campaign together. I know Joan felt betrayed by the book saying : “I tried to talk her out of it three years ago when she told me the notes she took on the 1980 campaign would be used in a book. I told her I felt so betrayed. I think it’s a real breach of confidentiality” - but I gotta say, it’s really great if you want to feel like an insider. It’s a must-read, in my opinion. But I don’t agree with how she did all of this - Joan was her friend and she trusted her but she ended up betraying her for money… yeah.
- Jackie, Ethel, Joan : The Women of Camelot, by J. Randy Taraborrelli (2000) : “Three women who married into America’s royal family and became forever linked in legend. Set against the panorama of explosive American history, this unique story offers a rarely-seen look at the relationship shared among the three women – during the Camelot years and beyond. Whether dealing with their husbands’ blatant infidelities, stumping for their many political campaigns, touring the world to promote their family’s legacy, raising their children, or confronting death, the Kennedy wives did it all with grace, style and dignity”
- The Kennedy Women : The Saga of an American Family, by Laurence Leamer (1994). 800-page book with rather tiny writing, but it goes back to the Kennedy’s ancestors and talks about every single Kennedy woman.
- After Camelot : A Personal History of the Kennedy Family – 1968 to the Present, by J. Randy Taraborrelli (2012) : Taraborrelli’s books tend to be a bit on the gossipy side, but I kinda like his style lol plus he does A LOT of research for his books (the source notes are always like, 40 pages long). The book is divided into the following parts : The lengthy an detailed tome is divided into the following parts: Jackie, Eunice, Sarge, Ted, Ethel, Jackie/Ari/The Lawfords, Sargent Tries Again, The Third Generation In Trouble, Poor Ari, Rosemary and Rose, Shriver for President, Ted’s 1980 campaign, David’s Story, Kennedy Upheaval, Caroline/John/Maurice, William Kennedy Smith and the Palm Beach Scandal, Kennedy Wives Old and New, Jackie: Her Final Years, John and Carolyn, Michael’s Story, A Peaceful Time, Camelot Loses its Prince, Transitions, and Looking Ahead.
- Peter Lawford : The Man Who Kept the secrets, by James Spada (1991). (See the review that I made about a week ago).
- Joan : The Reluctant Kennedy, by Lester David (1974) : It’s really interesting because he interviewed her a lot for it and you can learn about her childhood, her girlhood, etc. It’s really the only book that is strictly dedicated to her (well Marcia Chellis’ book kinda is too, but it’s more like a tell all, not a biography and it only talks about Joan’s life from 1979 to 1983). The only thing is that since the book was published in the 70s, it doesn’t cover the rest of Joan’s life.
- The Other Mrs. Kennedy : Ethel Skakel Kennedy - An American Drama of Power, Privilege, and Politics, by Jerry Oppenheimer (1994). I didn’t think I’d be into this book at first, since I’ve never been particularly interested in Ethel. But it really is a page turner.
- The Last Brother, by Joe McGinnis (1993). Excellent book about Ted. I really enjoyed the fact that there is no ass kissing at all (compared to the ‘Last Lion’, published by the Boston Globe). It really reveals the dysfunctionality of the family. I also like how he analyzes Ted, he’s very interesting, psychologically-speaking, cause he was trapped from the beginning: someone (…Joe Kennedy) chose a life path for him and that was it. The Washington Post trashed the book but don’t listen to them lol
- The Kennedy Curse, by Edward Klein. (2003)

Documentaries/Movies/Series

- The Kennedys (2011). Watch here : http://www.watchfree.to/watch-27654b-The-Kennedys-tv-show-online-free-putlocker.html#close-modal - I’m currently rewatching it actually. It’s 8 episodes and it starts with JFK’s election and ends with JFK’s assassination. Greg Kinnear is excellent as JFK, and so is Barry Pepper as Bobby. As for Katie Holmes, sometimes she’s good and sometimes it’s a bit cringy (like when she tries to imitate Jackie’s soft, breathy voice). The new series, The Kennedys : After Camelot (which covers from 1964 to the 1990s I believe), based on J. Randy Taraborrelli’s book, will start in April on Reelz

-The JFK collection– 8 mini movies by the History channel (2013). Disc One contains three films. “JFK: A Personal Story Part 1”, JFK: A Personal Story Part 2 and “Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis”. Disc Two contains four films “John F. Kennedy, Jr.: The Death of an American Prince”, “Joseph Kennedy, Sr.: Father of an American Dynasty”,“Robert F. Kennedy: His Many Sides” and “Ted Kennedy: Tragedy, Scandal, and Redemption” is the story of the life of the youngest Kennedy son, his scandals, and his life in politics. Disc Three contains the last film of the series, “JFK: Three Shots that Changed America.” **I’m afraid you’ll have to buy it, but I got it for pretty cheap on Ebay

- The Lost Kennedy Home Movies (2011).

Five Nintendo Switch Games I’d Like to See Announced at E3 2017

As a gamer, E3 has become a second Christmas. It’s an event lasting a few days where I get to see what new games, or updates on previously announced games, my favorite developers are working on. But, Nintendo is always the focal point of my viewership as I look forward to what new sequel, spin-off, or original titles they’ll reveal. This is the Nintendo Switch’s first E3, and with the date quickly approaching, I thought it’d make a list of five Nintendo Switch games (in no particular order) I’d like to see announced at this year’s E3.

I was first exposed to the fun and frantic gameplay of WarioWare on the GameCube, when WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$! was released in 2004. Since then, I’ve tried every iteration of the microgame madness, from GBA to Wii U, the latter being a more scaled down version of the series. The Joy-Con controllers would be a perfect way to experiment with the series, as they could take advantage of HD Rumble, and with the versatility of the Nintendo Switch, portability would add ease of multiplayer on the go. It would be great to allow up to 8 players to sit around and enjoy the absurdity of the mircrogames. Honestly, I’d choose WarioWare over Mario Party, especially with the way Mario Party is going … Here’s to WarioWare: Switch !

The year was 2003. The GameCube had been out for two years, and after begging my parents and working hard in the third grade, I convinced the omnipotent beings to buy me the system. When I saw the green wonder staring right at me, terror-stricken, I knew I had to pick up Luigi’s Mansion. The game is hands down, my favorite video game of all time, it has the charm and lovable aspects of a Nintendo game with an eerie atmosphere that no other Nintendo game has made me feel. Of course I would want a sequel! I know, I know, we had one Four years ago called Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and trust me, I was very excited when I found out it was coming, but seeing it was for 3DS broke my spirit. I did play the game and i liked it, however, a full-blown HD console version would be a dream come true. Especially if they go back to exploring one big mansion instead of multiple smaller ones. I’d say keep the multiplayer aspect of the 3DS game (again take advantage of the Joy-Con), but give me a bigger mansion and more creative ghosts to catch, like in the original. C’mon, Nintendo, give me Luigi’s Mansion 3! I would be so happy.

Mr. Miyamoto, don’t do this to me. I saw that interview a couple years back. You said Pikmin 4 was almost ready, so where is it? I understand game development takes time, but I know the newly announced Hey! Pikmin can’t be the sequel you teased. It just can’t be! Ok, breathe. Relax. All right I’m back. Pikmin has seen three games in its lifetime as a Nintendo IP, with Hey! Pikmin being the fourth. Pikmin 1 and 2 were released on GameCube in 2001 and 2004 respectively (wow another GameCube game) and about a decade later given New Play Control releases on Wii, and Pikmin 3 was released on Wii U in 2013. I believe there’s room for a true sequel on Nintendo Switch. Pikmin 4 could see a return of Olimar and Louie, maybe even the cast of Pikmin 3–Alph, Brittany, and Charlie–can return. I would love to explore new environments and Pikmin species alone or with a friend. Also, there’s no denying these things are downright cute. Please, more Pikmin!

Masahiro Sakurai. You know him as the creator of Kirby, and the Super Smash Bros. series, but in 2013 his team, Project Sora, released Kid Icarus: Uprising, which served as a reboot for what many thought was a long-forgotten Nintendo IP. The game has some of the funniest and wittiest dialogue in a video game I’ve ever experienced, as well as being the chattiest game Nintendo has to offer. The back and forth playfulness between Pit and Palutena is great, and watching Pit interact with other characters makes for a fun play through. The soundtrack was amazing and offered composition from many video game composers outside Nintendo. Now that development on Super Smash Bros. is far from done, it would be great if Sakurai gathered his team to work on a sequel to this game. I’d be more than glad to take down Hades and his minions once again. I just want to say: I loved Pit’s opening line “Sorry to keep you waiting” it sent chills down my entire body. Sakurai, don’t keep us waiting!

For my final entry, I’d like to show my desire for a console entry in the Mario & Luigi RPG series. I’m a huge Paper Mario fan. I’m also a huge Super Mario RPG fan, and that was the last Mario role playing game we got that didn’t take place in paper-thin worlds. With a total of five Mario and Luigi titles exclusive to handhelds, a console version would be a step in the right direction, since the last two entries on 3DS Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam were a little stale compared to the DS’s Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story or my personal favorite Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. There has been rumors regarding Ubisoft working on a cross-over between Mario & Luigi and their Rabbids franchise, but I, like all of you, am praying it is not true. Another rumor that has surfaced is a remake of Superstar Saga for 3DS, which I would be more in favor of, but until then, let’s hope we get a massive Mario & Luigi RPG for Switch with Co-op, larger worlds to explore, and new interesting characters that aren’t based in the mushroom kingdom.

So these are five games I’d love to see announced at this year’s E3, and shouldn’t be confused with my predictions. That’s a whole other entry. Here’s hoping Nintendo Switch could keep the momentum it has got going, maybe with one or all of these games being announced. Hey, one can dream. Right?

Fools Finale

AHHH the last part of Fools is finally out! I really just wanted to take the chance to thank you all for following this miniseries, I honestly didn’t expect such a positive response for part 1. Thank you so much for the lovely comments, for squealing about Taehyung’s sweet gestures, for crying over Jungkook’s sorrow, for screaming at me to ship the MC with either one of them, for everything!!!

So here’s how I planned to end the series since writing part 1!!! Here we go fam!~

Top 15 reads of 2014

2014 had been my breakthrough in ‘reading’, I personally denote that. Because I am really a lazy-ass reader as the 2014 enters, but I was amazed by myself that I had read If I Stay for like two days—which is not normal to me—then it was followed by Thirteen Reasons Why, then If I Stay’s sequel Where She Went. Then I know I’m latching on to books.

These books are the books that I had read in 2014, not the books published in 2014. Since I’m just making a debut in the world of books, I might read some books that were published a long time ago.

This list is order-sensitive. So what goes in the top is my most favorite read of 2014.

14. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

This book had sent me into a screeching level. I just shouted when I realized the things hadn’t turned out the way I thought they would be. I was hooked by the amazing and catchy premise of it so I picked it up for a read, and I didn’t really regretted it! Its sequel, PS, I Still Love You, is one of my anticipated releases of next year. I just can’t get enough of this thing! I had read books of Jenny Han, and for me, this is the greatest among them all.

14. Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick

I read this in the late 2014, so it has the tiniest chance of being included here in my favorite reads, and who knows? I loved Leonard Peacock, I love how the way he thinks, it’s just so inclined in the reality. I love how he stood up for his decisions, and how he changed the world. This book really made me stunned on the lowest level, and I loved this. LP will always be on my heart. The thing I hate the most about this is that the ending is badly abrupt. I hate abrupt endings. Real talk.

13. Every Day by David Levithan

David Levithan never fails to write amazing plotlines, connections, and characters. The contemporary world is not that diverse, but David Levithan makes a difference. His characters are diverse and profound that you need second guessing and reading in order to absorb what he is trying to say. I love A. I love Rhiannon. I love every one in this book. This book shows the different sides of the world we live in. Too bad I’d read so much greater books than this this year, but it would’ve topped the charts. Another Day, its sequel, will be coming out next year and is one of my most-anticipated books next year.

12. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet, the second installment of the Lunar Chronicles, is also included here. I loved Scarlet more than Cinder, the first in the series, because I think Scarlet had have much more feelings than Cinder. Scarlet is such a feels-wrecker. I never knew how can I contain my feelings. Real talk: I had read this I classes because I just couldn’t get enough of this. Wolf and Scarlet make a great love team! They’re one of mt OTP’s. Haha.

11. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Amy and Roger had traveled America. And I loved it! It’s like I had also traveled with them. I knew the loneliest highway in America, and I knew so much about Yosemite Park, I loved this book so much. I was really doubtful at first because I think this wouldn’t cut my favorites, but I was wrong. I was just so much wrong. This is good. I think I have a thing in road tours by now. Looking forward for Second Chance Summer and Since You’ve Been Gone!

10. The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

This novel made me cry. Literally. Like it was brown out in our place and I decided to read it in my tablet and I cried. I also finished it on that one sitting because this is sooo good. Is that convincing? Haha. This has family, friendships, and everything in it. This is a total package. Too bad the movie was wrecked. Ugh. They really stirred a good novel badly. Hail, Kody Keplinger!

9. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

This is my first read of one of the leading queens of contemporary–Rainbow Rowell. And I find it cute and loveable. Eleanor and Park are like oil and water, that they aren’t made for together, but still find a way. But nooo…at the time I was deeply in love with the two of them and the story and everything, ugh. I don’t want to spoil you guys, even though I know you’ve read this already, But I was painfully hurt when I read the ending. They should be in ecstasy. But whatever, I love Rainbow and her loveable characters so much.

8. Looking for Alaska by John Green

I’ve read all of John Green’s books this year, but this is the only one who made the cut. I love the characters–Alaska, Miles, the Colonel, and Takumi, I love them all–their gang, their pranks, their hanging-outs, and I hated this book so much! The ‘before’ and 'after’ thing! It’s like 'ugh’. I was crying. But anyway, I love the book. I like how the characters developed. The story overall, and everything. Preach!

7. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

This is my first fantasy novel to be read this year and I was also doubtful in reading this. But hell yeah, I’ve finished this for two or three days! I was totally in love with this and Dorothy and no, I realized that you shouldn’t really be attached to a fictional character because you will cry a lot of tears and your heart will be wretched by the author. I just hate Paige. Hahahaha. She’s so awesome in writing these type of things. I was amazed how many debut novels were in here right now. Since maybe I was also a debutant in reading this year? Maybe. maybe not. Loved this.

6. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Cute. Romance. Friendship. Family. Heartbreaks. CUTE again. This is so much of a roller-coaster ride! Shit. Shitshitshit. I cannot get enough of this book. But, sad to say, this is the best of the series. May or may not be, Lola and Isla isn’t that compelling to me unlike this one. I love Stephanie Perkins for writing this book!

5. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

This is one of the most compelling books I’ve ever read. I think this has changed some principles I had. I love this book. I love the characters, Sam? I think. Sorry if I forgot. I’d read this back in July or August so it’s really hard to wrap up characters. But this stands alone, and I love it. A powerful book, you guys better read this if you haven’t. This will change your view of the world. Seven days. Seven chapters. You’ll never regret reading it.

4. Wonder by RJ Palacio

I’ve read this just this December, I was late in being informed that this was an amazing book. Like, you just cannot dodge the message this wants to tell us. This will also change the way you view the world just like BIF, I love Auggie, his strength, his everything. I love how he thinks about not caring and giving a f*** to others. I love his courage. I want that one. This had struck me to my innermost self. I really, really and highly recommend this to everyone! No matter what your age, your genre, and your status. This has a general message. And I want you to read this to find it out.

3. The Realm of Possibility by David Levithan

I’ve read this on January and it had stayed for like seven or eight months being my favorite. It was then replaced by Falling Into Place so it ranked my second, then Falling Into Place was replaced by Cress, so it falls down in third. I just have this thing in charts so I keep track of my books’ reads, so I can handle my own chart. It was so good to have something like that. TROP is a novel about seventeen different students having different life problems and POV’s, it was so great. Especially that it was written in poetry or in verses, I really do have a thing in poems, you know. That’s why I’d loved it. Also, the connections were so much amazing and beautiful! This is a short read that I finished for just one sitting. I don’t know what pushed me to read this one morning–at 6AM, I started reading this and it was so much fun!

2. Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang

This is like a mash-up of all the books I ’d read this year–If I Stay, 13 Reasons Why, and Before I Fall (but the first two books didn’t made it to the cut). It was so awesome! Liz, and everyone in the gang is so much loveable. I love how the story was being told. 80+ chapters but it seems so much hanging. A wonderful debut from a teenager, and I loved it. I hope she make so much more novels like this. It is very compelling. I loved this. HOW MANY TIMES DID I SAY 'I LOVE THIS’? Ugh. 'Cause it’s real. It was hard not to love. Better read this guys. It will make you cry, laugh, shout, and everything.

1. Cress by Marissa Meyer

This is the third installment in the Lunar Chronicles and this is the best book by far, Meyer will release two more books–Fairest and Winter--next year which are two of my most anticipated releases of 2015. I didn’t expect that this will put me in a super roller coaster ride of emotions. Real talk: I CRIED IN THIS. It was like reading this after I woke up (straight from stretching then grabbing my copy and reading this) then I cried when ugh, I can’t say it. This also made me swoon because of the OTP’s in here. Thorne and Cress have a spark, guys. They really have. And Wolf. Shit. He’s more heroic and fantastic and awesome than ever! And Kai, it was so much amazing. And Scarlet and Winter’s appearance in the last few chapters, the whole book is awesome! Meyer, you have my vows. You topped my favorites list (and you have two entries), and I want to greet you–and myself–that we both made it! And please, don’t kill any of the six main characters, it’s just that I love them so much. Pleaaaase.

Happy 2015 guys! Keep track of your reads so that you can see who’s topping the charts! Hahaha. Have an awesome New Year!

Creepypasta #1019: The Rake

Length: Medium

During the summer of 2003, events in the northeastern United States involving a strange, human-like creature sparked brief local media interest before an apparent blackout was enacted. Little or no information was left intact, as most online and written accounts of the creature were mysteriously destroyed.

Primarily focused in rural New York state and once found in Idaho, self proclaimed witnesses told stories of their encounters with a creature of unknown origin. Emotions ranged from extremely traumatic levels of fright and discomfort, to an almost childlike sense of playfulness and curiosity. While their published versions are no longer on record, the memories remained powerful. Several of the involved parties began looking for answers that year.

In early 2006, the collaboration had accumulated nearly two dozen documents dating between the 12th century and present day, spanning 4 continents. In almost all cases, the stories were identical. I’ve been in contact with a member of this group and was able to get some excerpts from their upcoming book.

A Suicide Note: 1964

“As I prepare to take my life, I feel it necessary to assuage any guilt or pain I have introduced through this act. It is not the fault of anyone other than him. For once I awoke and felt his presence. And once I awoke and saw his form. Once again I awoke and heard his voice, and looked into his eyes. I cannot sleep without fear of what I might next awake to experience. I cannot ever wake. Goodbye.”

Found in the same wooden box were two empty envelopes addressed to William and Rose, and one loose personal letter with no envelope:

“Dearest Linnie,

I have prayed for you. He spoke your name.”

A Journal Entry (translated from Spanish): 1880

“I have experience the greatest terror. I have experienced the greatest terror. I have experienced the greatest terror. I see his eyes when I close mine. They are hollow. Black. They saw me and pierced me. His wet hand. I will not sleep. His voice (unintelligible text).”

A Mariner’s Log: 1691

“He came to me in my sleep. From the foot of my bed I felt a sensation. He took everything. We must return to England. We shall not return here again at the request of the Rake.”

From a Witness: 2006

“Three years ago, I had just returned from a trip from Niagara Falls with my family for the 4th of July. We were all very exhausted after a long day of driving, so my husband and I put the kids right to bed and called it a night.

At about 4am, I woke up thinking my husband had gotten up to use the restroom. I used the moment to steal back the sheets, only to wake him in the process. I apologized and told him I though he got out of bed. When he turned to face me, he gasped and pulled his feet up from the end of the bed so quickly his knee almost knocked me out of the bed. He then grabbed me and said nothing.

After adjusting to the dark for a half second, I was able to see what caused the strange reaction. At the foot of the bed, sitting and facing away from us, there was what appeared to be a naked man, or a large hairless dog of some sort. Its body position was disturbing and unnatural, as if it had been hit by a car or something. For some reason, I was not instantly frightened by it, but more concerned as to its condition. At this point I was somewhat under the assumption that we were supposed to help him.

My husband was peering over his arm and knee, tucked into the fetal position, occasionally glancing at me before returning to the creature.

In a flurry of motion, the creature scrambled around the side of the bed, and then crawled quickly in a flailing sort of motion right along the bed until it was less than a foot from my husband’s face. The creature was completely silent for about 30 seconds (or probably closer to 5, it just seemed like a while) just looking at my husband. The creature then placed its hand on his knee and ran into the hallway, leading to the kids’ rooms.I screamed and ran for the lightswitch, planning to stop him before he hurt my children. When I got to the hallway, the light from the bedroom was enough to see it crouching and hunched over about 20 feet away. He turned around and looked directly at me, covered in blood. I flipped the switch on the wall and saw my daughter Clara.

The creature ran down the stairs while my husband and I rushed to help our daughter. She was very badly injured and spoke only once more in her short life. She said "he is the Rake”.

My husband drove his car into a lake that night, while rushing our daughter to the hospital. They did not survive.

Being a small town, news got around pretty quickly. The police were helpful at first, and the local newspaper took a lot of interest as well. However, the story was never published and the local television news never followed up either.

For several months, my son Justin and I stayed in a hotel near my parent’s house. After we decided to return home, I began looking for answers myself. I eventually located a man in the next town over who had a similar story. We got in contact and began talking about our experiences. He knew of two other people in New York who had seen the creature we now referred to as the Rake.

It took the four of us about two solid years of hunting on the internet and writing letters to come up with a small collection of what we believe to be accounts of the Rake. None of them gave any details, history or follow up. One journal had an entry involving the creature in its first 3 pages, and never mentioned it again. A ship’s log explained nothing of the encounter, saying only that they were told to leave by the Rake. That was the last entry in the log.

There were, however, many instances where the creature’s visit was one of a series of visits with the same person. Multiple people also mentioned being spoken to, my daughter included. This led us to wonder if the Rake had visited any of us before our last encounter.

I set up a digital recorder near my bed and left it running all night, every night, for two weeks. I would tediously scan through the sounds of me rolling around in my bed each day when I woke up. By the end of the second week, I was quite used to the occasional sound of sleep while blurring through the recording at 8 times the normal speed. (This still took almost an hour every day)

On the first day of the third week, I thought I heard something different. What I found was a shrill voice. It was the Rake. I can’t listen to it long enough to even begin to transcribe it. I haven’t let anyone listen to it yet. All I know is that I’ve heard it before, and I now believe that it spoke when it was sitting in front of my husband. I don’t remember hearing anything at the time, but for some reason, the voice on the recorder immediately brings me back to that moment.

The thoughts that must have gone through my daughter’s head make me very upset.

I have not seen the Rake since he ruined my life, but I know that he has been in my room while I slept. I know and fear that one night I’ll wake up to see him staring at me.“

I was unable to find the author of this creepypasta.

10 Star Trek Episodes To Help Get Us Through Election 2016

As I, like so many of us, continue to reel from the shockwave caused by the results of our 2016 presidential election, I find myself reflecting a lot on my favorite television franchise of all time: Star Trek. Through its many incarnations, the show has greatly impacted my life. I was 5 years old when The Next Generation premiered, and I have fond memories of watching it with my father, humming along to the theme song together every week. I’m so grateful that it became a part of my life well before I was old enough to know or care that it was a show for “nerds.” (It’s more widely embraced now, but when I was 13, I wasn’t exactly bragging about my extensive VHS collection of episodes I’d taped off the TV.)

Star Trek taught me about justice, equality, and the importance of having tolerance and respect for all people. (It also taught me that we’re all going to get to wear our pajamas to work in the future, but that’s beside the point.) There’s been much conversation and debate regarding show creator Gene Roddenberry’s vision, but one thing that’s certain is that he had a vision of hope for humanity. And I think it’s thanks in part to Star Trek that I’m now conditioned to hold on to that hope - for better or for worse.

But there is no hope without education and awareness. That’s why I wish I could make some of these episodes required viewing. They may be works of fiction, but the lessons are very real and relevant.

And so I present to you, “10 Star Trek Episodes to Help Us Get Through Election 2016.” Episodes that serve to teach, instill hope, and generally remind us how not to suck.

*I’ve certainly left a number of great and relevant episodes off this list. That’s bound to happen when you have six television series that add up to 726 episodes spanning 30 seasons. Feel free to chime in and add your favorites in the comment section.

10. “Remember” Voyager

While Voyager is transporting some Enaran passengers back to their homeworld, chief engineer B’Elanna Torres starts to have vivid dreams of herself as a young Enaran woman wrapped up in a forbidden love affair with an Enaran man who is a member of the “Regressives.” The Regressives were a group who rejected technology and were eventually exterminated. B’Elanna realizes these are not dreams but actual memories being shared with her by one of the Enaran passengers. It turns out the Enarans have covered up the truth of this horrific holocaust for decades. This cautionary tale reminds us that when we do not know our own history, we are often doomed to repeat it.

I also like this episode because I’m a big B’Elanna Torres fan. Half human, half Klingon, B’Elanna was often torn between her two cultures and struggled to accept and find peace with all parts of herself. (Totally relatable to an angsty teenager.) But she could also kick ass and was super smart. She and Captain Janeway were proud Nasty Women.

9. “Demons”/“Terra Prime” Enterprise

Enterprise often fell short of its potential, but these two episodes live up to it. Captain Archer has gathered a group of all-star aliens for a summit to work out an alliance, but an isolationist group wants to put a stop to it by diverting some comets and aiming them towards Earth. This episode does a nice job calling out the awfulness of bigotry. There’s an interesting line from the Andorian Ambassador, “Earth men talk about uniting worlds, but your own planet is deeply divided. Perhaps you’re not ready to host this conference.” With our own society currently being so fragmented, it can feel all too easy to give up. But we have to continue to strive to bridge the gap.

8. “The Outcast” TNG

This episode supporting LGBTQ rights takes place while the Enterprise is on a mission helping an androgynous race called the J’naii. Commander Riker works closely with a J’naii named Soren. The two become close, discussing life without gender distinctions, and Soren eventually confesses to Riker that she identifies as female. But specific gender identification is considered sexual perversion in the J’naii culture. The two become intimate and once discovered, Soren is arrested for it and sentenced to “psychotectic” conversion therapy.

I was ten years old when this episode premiered, and I remember it making an impression on me. I guess I hadn’t really considered the ideas of androgyny, gender fluidity or homosexuality much up to that point, so the episode both raised my awareness and taught me the importance of tolerance.

7. “Past Tense Part 1 & 2” DS9

I’m going to confess right now that Deep Space Nine is my favorite of all the series, and this list definitely favors the show. You’ve been warned.

In this two-parter, Sisko and part of his crew are transported back in time to Earth in the year 2024. In this not-at-all-distant future, the United States has rounded up the poor and homeless and forced them to live in the “sanctuary districts.” While trying to get back to their time, the crew must preserve the timeline. They’ve arrived right at a pivotal moment, the eve of a revolution that finally makes the United States deal with all the social issues it’s been sweeping under the rug for a century. This revolution must happen, even if it means one of the crew must die.

When this episode first premiered over 20 years ago, this future seemed unimaginable to me. Sadly, it seems frighteningly plausible today. It can be far too easy to ignore things that don’t touch us directly. This episode reminds us to stay vigilant and step up to help those less fortunate.

6. “The Drumhead” TNG

When a Klingon traitor is arrested for spying on the Enterprise, it sets off a witch hunt for other feared saboteurs. Eventually even Captain Picard finds himself under investigation by Admiral Satie, a woman driven by paranoia. But the biggest victim of this investigation is a young crewman named Simon Tarses. Through manipulation, he’s tricked into confessing that he lied about his ancestry. His grandfather is actually a Romulan, not a Vulcan. Gasp. This episode taught me more about McCarthyism than any history class I ever took. Power and paranoia are a dangerous combination, even when we start out with good intentions.

5. “Homefront”/“Paradise Lost” DS9

When a bombing at a Federation conference on Earth kills 27, it is revealed that a Changeling is responsible. The Changelings are a race of shapeshifters who can take any form, which is terrifying for obvious reasons. Fear about a potential invasion of Earth causes Starfleet to call in Sisko and his crew as security experts since Odo, the chief of security on Deep Space Nine, is himself a Changeling. Odo expresses concern over how he will be received by the humans of Earth given the current situation. Chief O’Brien tries to make him feel better by telling him nobody could blame him for the actions of his people. And Odo is basically like, “Wanna bet?”

Eventually, Martial Law is declared, but when there’s no invasion, Sisko starts to suspect there’s more going on here. It turns out Starfleet’s Admiral Leyton has been planning a coup to remove the Federation president.

This episode came out in 1996, more than 5 years before 9/11, but it is eerily prescient in predicting how humanity often responds to terrorist threats. Once again, we are given a cautionary tale about letting fear and paranoia control us, lest we destroy paradise all by ourselves.

4. “Far Beyond the Stars” DS9

I love that Star Trek deals with an issue head-on in this episode. It’s not a metaphor for our own culture, it’s a reflection on our actual history. Captain Sisko finds himself having visions where he lives another life as Benny Russell, an African-American science fiction writer in 1950’s New York City. In this reality, he finds himself interacting with human versions of the DS9 crew. Kira plays a fellow writer who has to use a fake name so that readers won’t know she’s a woman, and Dax plays a ditzy secretary who’s smarter than she lets on. These characterizations add some small side commentary on women’s rights to the episode as well.

When Benny’s magazine editor refuses to publish his stories about Captain Sisko, a black commanding officer of a space station, passionate arguments break out. Eventually they reach an agreement, only to have the company pull the entire issue, preferring to take the financial loss that month rather than publish Benny’s story. Throughout the episode, Sisko’s son, Jake, appears as Benny’s friend Jimmy. Jimmy is shot and killed by two cops because he was supposedly caught breaking into a car. Benny is then savagely beaten by those cops for protesting the injustice.

This episode is set in the 1950s. It aired in 1998. I write this in 2016. How beyond awful is it that Jimmy’s story, specifically, reads like a headline from today’s newspaper? And while discrimination in the workplace today may not always be as blatant as what Benny experienced, we’re lying to ourselves if we think it isn’t still happening. We still have a whole lotta work to do in this department.

3. “Duet” DS9

So, quick background here. Deep Space Nine is a space station that was built by a race of aliens called the Cardassians. It’s positioned near a planet called Bajor. The Cardassians built the station during their occupation of Bajor, where they basically turned the Bajoran people into their slaves and made them live and work in labor camps. When the series begins, the occupation has just ended and Bajor is getting back on its feet with some help from the Federation, who takes over the station.

In this episode, a Cardassian named Marritza arrives on the station suffering from a disease that indicates he worked at one specific Bajoran labor camp. Major Kira, a former member of the Bajoran resistance, is determined to convict the man of war crimes.  She helped liberate this particular labor camp and knows the kinds of atrocities the Cardassians committed there. First Marritza denies having the disease. Then he says he was just a filing clerk at the camp. Eventually a photo is discovered that shows this man is not Marritza but Gul Darhe'el, the leader of the camp who was also known as the “Butcher of Gallitep.” Marritza finally admits he is actually the Gul, but inconsistencies in his stories and those of others lead Kira to discover he is NOT the Gul. I know, confusing, but also very exciting twists and turns.

In the end, the man is Marritza, just a lowly file clerk with a super guilty conscience. Desperate to make amends for the atrocities he allowed the Bajorans to suffer, he wanted to be discovered and punished as the Gul.

In this episode, Kira must confront her own racism. She has every right to be mad, but she realizes that lumping all Cardassians into the same group is completely unfair. For an episode that’s over 20 years old, it’s still a pretty compelling and relevant hour of television.

2. “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” TOS

In one of the most famous episodes of the Original Series, Captain Kirk and the Enterprise encounter two vessels. Aboard one vessel is Lokai who is a fugitive being hunted by commissioner Bele in the other vessel. The two aliens are from the same planet, but Lokai is from a slave race with one half of his body being black and the other half white. Bele is from the master race, and his skin is half white and half black - the reverse of Lokai’s skin. The two groups have been engaged in a race war for years, and thanks to their extraordinary powers, Bele has been chasing Lokai for 50,000 years. Eventually the aliens force the Enterprise to take them back to their homeworld. Once they arrive, they discover that their people have been totally wiped out. They destroyed themselves due to their crazy racial hatred. When Bele and Lokai realize they’re the only ones left, they start to blame each other for what happened. The two continue to fight, presumably to their own demise.

So, yeah, let’s not let it come to that for us, shall we?

1. “Darmok” TNG

“Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.” It’s one of the most famous lines from The Next Generation. It also sounds like total gibberish. It is. And that’s kind of the point.

When a group of Tamarians basically kidnap Captain Picard and forcibly strand him on a planet with their captain named Dathon, the two have a heck of a time communicating. The universal translator is pretty much useless because, although it can translate the literal words being said, the Tamarians speak entirely in allegory. Without the necessary cultural background knowledge, Dathon’s phrases initially confuse Picard. When Dathon says, “Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra” and throws Picard a knife, Picard misinterprets and thinks it’s a challenge to fight. Later, the two men realize a beast of some sort is stalking them. As they work together to defeat it, Picard starts to understand the meaning of Dathon’s phrase. It’s a reference to a story of two warriors working together to defeat an enemy - a story of cooperation. Sadly, Dathon is critically wounded in their fight against the beast. He was willing to sacrifice himself in order to build a bridge of communication between the two cultures.

As individuals and as groups, we yearn to be understood. It’s what helps pave the way to cooperation, acceptance, and even friendship. Goodness knows communication and understanding don’t always come easy, but they can literally mean the difference between war and peace, life and death. Gene Roddenberry and I think peace is worth the effort.

Summary: Seeing Sebastian after all of these years hurt. But seeing Tom doesn’t hurt at all, what to choose?

27 Things I've Learned From My Favorite Books, PT.1

Today is my birthday. I am 27 years old and I am having a crisis. I am not who I thought I would be at 27. I have not done the things I thought I would do by the age of 27. And, I’m still reading the same kinds of books that I read 7 years ago at 20. Am I the same person I was 7 years ago? Have  I not evolved, have I not changed? More importantly…is it time to grow up? Should I be reading more serious books? Should I put down my fantasy worlds, my YA books and my romance novels and finally submit myself to lit? Non fiction, history books?

It took me a few days, but the answer is HELL NO. My books are real books and they are age appropriate. Why? Because, I learn from them. Because, they’ve changed me. BECAUSE I LOVE THEM.

Below is part 1 of the 27 Things I’ve Learned From My Favorite Books:

1. It’s never too late to make it right. From Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

After abandoning Harry and Hermione in the worst possible moment when they needed each other more than ever, Ron came back with a vengeance, saving Harry’s life, taking out horcruxes, fighting in a major battle and winning the girl. If Ron can come back from his selfish actions, who is to say that I can’t?

2. Never too old for love. From Anne Elliot in Persuasion

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a boyfriend, had strong feelings for another person or even held someone’s hand. Sometimes I feel like it will never happen. Then I think of Ann Elliot in Jane Austen’s final book Persuasion. She was well and truly on the shelf. A spinster who at the ripe old age of 27 rekindled a love that she had ruined and got her happily ever after.

3. Never be afraid to try new things. From The Night Huntress series

This is a little bit different than the rest. I won One Foot in the Grave the second book in the Night Huntress series by Jeanine frost in a Facebook competition held by the publisher. I had never read fantasy or paranormal romance and thought vampires were stupid. Then I got this book in the mail and I consumed it. When I say consumed I mean I recently found my copy and both the back and front covers are missing. I read it so many times it began falling apart. From there I discovered my undying love for urban fantasy and kick ass girls in high heeled boots who are deadly as their boyfriends, if not more so. If I hadn’t been willing to try this book, which at the time was completely different from anything i’d ever read, I would have missed out on the great loves of my life.

4. Sometimes the thing that makes you weird is the thing that makes you stronger. From Cat in One Foot in the Grave

Cat is an anomaly half vampire, half human. Unheard of. It makes her an outcast, neither human nor vamp and no one knows what to do with her.  But, do you know what Cat is? A half breed! It means that she is as fast, as strong and as fierce as any vampire but is not an animated corpse. She gets the supernatural skill but still gets to eat, and breathe and watch the sunrise. I love that, because my loud personality, my inability to be embarrassed, my brutal honesty are the things that make me stand out, gives those people who don’t like me a clear reason not to, but it also makes me strong, makes me able to adapt and roll with the punches. Being a little odd can be an asset.

5. Sure, you could get even or you could forgive and have an enriching life. From Captain Wentworth in Persuasion

When Captain Wentworth returns to upper cross he has one thing in mind, to show Anne Elliot everything that she’s been missing. He wants to flaunt the fact that she was wrong about him and that he was so much better than she thought all those years ago when she broke their engagement.  But, after a few days in her presence, after seeing her strength, her kindness and talking to her and remember her keen mind, he can’t hold on to the anger any longer. He needs to forgive and allow himself to love her. And you know, I absolutely believe they lived happily ever after because of it.

6. One great friend can make all the difference.  From Ron and Harry

There are people who hate Ron Weasley. People who think he shouldn’t have gotten the girl and that blows my mind. Because, when I think of Ron I think of the boy with the big family, who had inadequacy issues and still took the most famous boy in their world under his wing. I think of him not going home with his siblings to stay behind at Hogwarts so Harry wouldn’t be alone. I think about him believing somewhere in his heart that the girl he loved was into his best friend and coming back an saving Harry anyway. I think about the dark tunnels he walked into, the spiders he faced, the trolls he fought and the best game of chess ever played all in service to his Bff. What’s funny is that I don’t aspire to be Harry and have such friends. I aspire to be Ron Weasley who is so much better in the books.

7. Sometimes actions speak louder than words. From Aristotle in Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

This will be difficult without spoiling the plot. But, towards the end of the book the question of how Aristotle truly feels is on the forefront of his mind. But, what I love most about this book is that halfway through, way before he asks himself the question, he takes an amazing action that puts himself at risk. That action answers all the questions and doubts whirling inside of him more incredibly than any words ever could.

8. You don’t have to settle, no matter the circumstances. From Lizzie Bennet in Pride & Prejudice

Let’s face it, Ms. Elizabeth should have accepted Mr.   She just should have. She was 1 of 5 daughters in a world where she couldn’t work, in a town where the men were scarce and she had younger sisters who were sixteen years old and already on the marriage mart. There was a great chance that she wouldn’t get a second proposal. And, when she did get a second proposal from someone as rich as Mr. Darcy who was socially her superior she absolutely should have accepted. But she didn’t, because she wanted to to be happy. She wanted to be respected and respect her spouse. She wanted the truest love and she risked everything until she got it.

9. Letting people in is the scariest thing you can do, but it could change your life. From Kate Daniels in Magic Shifts

When the Kate Daniels series begins, she’s alone. Not just alone, but lonely and grieving. She has to be alone and has to keep herself secret simply because of her heritage because the man who is her father who will come looking for her one day and when he finds her, he will kill her and lay waste to her life. So, she keeps to herself as not to take anyone down in the cross fire. But, as the series continues she gets a best friend, a badass teen protégé, an adopted daughter and one of the most amazing men in books as the love of her life. Is she afraid for them constantly? Yea. But, they’ve all proven themselves strong, capable and deadly enough to walk into an unbreakable prison to break her out.

10. If You Don’t fuck up where’s your halo? From Keith Richards in Life.

Keith Richards has been addicted to heroin, he’s watched the woman he loved almost die in a wreck while carrying his first child, he’s fallen out of trees, he’s had his girlfriend’s lover shoot himself in his bed, he’s been in love with his best friends girl, he’s had his best friend sleep with his girl, his been banned from France, put on the USA’s watch list and has been in rehab several times and he is one of the greatest guitar players and song writers of all time. By all rights, Keith Richards should be dead, but be was alive to write Life one of my favorite memoirs and to make me cry during a performance of one of my favorite songs Happy in 2015. He’s not perfect, he’s fucked up but he’s alive and has done some amazing things with his life. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes it’s how we come back from those mistakes that matter.

11. Sometimes you just have to hold on to what you love. Percy Jackson in the Mark of Athena.

If you haven’t read this book, skip this one.

At the end of mark of Athena, the heroes win. At least, they think they win until the villain while falling into Tartarus makes one last play and wraps her web around Annabeth’s leg and begins to pull the daughter of Athena into Tartarus, the hell of the titans. The unsafest place for a demigod to be. Quick thinking Percy grabs her hand. He holds on for as long as he can. Until he realizes there’s no use, she’s going to fall. So he makes a quick choice. He knows that the prophecy calls for the doors to be opened from inside of Tartarus. He knows that the girl he loves is going to fall and he knows that he doesn’t let go of the wall he will fall with her. So, he gives his friends instructions to meet him on the other side, then e holds on to Annabeth’s and together they fall into hell. I love this scene, one because it proves once and for all that Percy Jackson is THE hero.( sorry Jason grace) and, it shows thy when you love something or someone you hold on to them no matter what it takes. Especially when that person makes you better, especially when you know that together you are unstoppable.

12. Don’t be the fantasy, be the real. Remington “Riptide” Tate in real.

When Brooke meets Remy, the MMA fighter that every girl wants she wants run away, hook up with her fantasy guy and have an adventure. Remy refuses to sleep with her, because he doesn’t want to be her one night stand, that steamy story she tells her friends, a night of adventure. He wants to be her adventure, her guy, the one she says goodnight to every night. He wants to be her real.

[October 3, 2016]

It’s not that Y/N was nosy, not at all, it’s just that when she overheard Namjoon and Yoongi talking about girls her curiosity spiked and got the best of her. Currently she was standing behind one of the many bookshelves in the university library and not too far from her were the two friends sitting comfortably at one of the many tables with their homework scattered all over the wooden surface.

“I find it hard to believe you’ve never had a girlfriend.” Gaped Namjoon perplexed. Me too, she thought nodding her head in agreement as she listened from the other side of the shelf.

“Well, I haven’t so get over it.” Grumbled the black haired man with a hint of annoyance in his voice.

“You’ve got to at least have a type.” The other boy suggested.

               “I don’t know, I’ve never really thought about it…”

“Come on!” Yeah Yoongi, come on. Y/N eagerly chewed on the inside of her cheek as she waited for Yoongi to respond.

“Hmm… I guess a girl who is pretty, yet smart, caring, but also strong and independent, she definitely has to be someone I could talk to…” I’m all of that!

“Sounds like someone we know… Don’t tell me you like Y/N?” Namjoon gasped slapping a hand over his mouth. Y/N grinned happily, she was overjoyed by the thought of the underground rapper possibly being capable of returning her feelings.

“Are you kidding me?” he snarled sounding offended which caused her smile to falter. “I prefer a girl that dresses in jeans, t-shirts, and dark colors unlike Y/N, I mean she wears more pink than Jin.” She had bitten down on the inside of her cheek so harshly that the taste of iron mingled in her mouth. What’s wrong with the color pink? Growing up Jin always said I looked the prettiest in pink.

“Honestly, I thought you two had a thing for each other or at least that’s what it seemed like.”

“What the hell. Where did you get that from? Y/N is the complete opposite of what I look for in a girl, she’s as pretty as a doll but also as fragile as one. She’s definitely not my type.” her stomach lurched hearing him continue, she was starting to realize this had been a bad idea. Y/N thought that maybe, just maybe he liked her too. A year ago she wouldn’t have cared what he had to say about her, but now it was different. Just last night she was laying on her couch with her head on his lap as he played with her dark brown locks and talked about the newest song he was working on. Everything she thought that they had built up together had just come crashing down in a matter of seconds. Not wanting to hear any more out of fear that she wouldn’t be able to handle it the girl aimlessly rushed out of the library which led her to bump into someone.

“I- I’m sorry.” She muttered quietly not bothering to look up at the individual.

“Woah- Y/N?” the toffee haired male exclaimed muddled.

“Jin? Jin!” Y/N immediately wrapped her arms around his torso and buried her face into his chest before letting out a soft sob.

“Oh no, no, no! Don’t cry princess.” It had been years since he had last called her that, having grown up together he had many nicknames for her, but that one had always been her favorite one. “What’s wrong?” hesitantly he wrapped his arms around the petite girl and let out a sigh as his hand gently stroked her long hair in a comforting manner. “Let’s go somewhere else, I’ll take you home.” She simply nodded against him in response.

“Why are you so late today?” Namjoon asked looking over at the clock, it was approximately 10:47PM.

“We ordered take out, your plate is in the microwave.” Yoongi commented as he continued to channel surf.

“I was over at Y/N’s.” immediately the black haired man’s ears perked at the mention of the girl’s name. “Poor baby bumped into me when walking out of the library then busted into tears seconds later. I couldn’t possibly leave her alone so I took her home and comforted her for a while, but then she ended up falling asleep on me and I didn’t want to wake her.”

“Oh no, did she tell you why she was crying?” Namjoon asked genuinely concerned, after all she was his friend too.

“No, she didn’t…” Jin responded with a sigh as he took of his coat and made his way towards the kitchen where the food awaited him. Yoongi’s brows knit together in confusion wondering who or what had made her cry.

Curled up on the bed she found herself staring at the wall, her thoughts kept wandering back to that afternoon. Yoongi’s words kept ringing in her head in a taunting manner, the gut wrenching feeling never leaving her once. Tears began to prickle in the corner of her eyes, was I just too naïve?
