Pride before the fall

“They just can’t get my nose right!”

Ah I had this idea for a while now– has anyone else done this?? I hope not, but if someone already did I wanna seeee 💕

Pfft the actual drawing on my sketchpad is small, so sorry for the terrible lettering– Any constructive criticism would be appreciated!! I would love to get better ♥

Okay, so like, I know Whiskey has been kind of Problematic™ so far, but the boy has such a #look, ya know?

Anyway, I guess this is a companion to this piece I did before I even had a side blog of Tango wearing a flamenco tango outfit.

This is slowly becoming a series……

(Edit: Added a vignette for the #aesthetic)

I know it's been asked before but do you know any big ways to improve or feel satisfied with your own art? I've been drawing for over a decade of my life and feel like I'm still bad and can't finish a piece I'm proud of and it makes me feel so miserable. I don't want to give up, I see many artist like you that get me pumped to draw and aspire to get better, it's just not happening. I won't accept "drawing isn't for me". It's the only median like to do and I need a creative outlet. ahh I'm sorry!

hmmmm i think what really started me on my progress was taking a break and just going on an “art trip” to find the styles which i found myself drifting towards. which kind of art form do you identify with? what colour palettes make your eyes wanna do backflips?

moody art? action packed art? nature art? conceptual art? watercolour art?

import your external interests to make drawing feel more homely. you love plants? puppies? the colour red? big jackets? ripped jeans? jazz music? rainy weather? PUT. THEM. IN. draw what makes your brain buzz with excitement but also remember to start with what makes your heart comfortable as well.

the whole point of discovering these first are to help you find your identity before what you draw really becomes who you are, instead of just aimlessly working on the practical theories of art without knowing what you want to really achieve through it. most of us started on art for this reason - self expression. best of luck nonny!!

hello! sorry for answering your ask so late, i was busy with school!

but anyways, here are a couple of good free digital art programs for you:

+the download for the entire CS2 suite (it became free like 3-7 years ago but the page got replaced w/ something else so someone made this google document)

also, if you ever want to get into storyboarding, theres a free program for that, too! -

as for cheap tablets, i heard that a 10x6.5 Monoprice tablet costs like 48-50$. ppl say that they break pretty quickly tho, so i would recommend getting a Wacom Bamboo tablet!!! i still have mine and it still works very well

hope that helps!!! good luck friendo!!!! may ur programs never crash b4 you save and may your pen never get lost!

Hey I recently found your acc (and it's lovely btw) and I was having some drawing-friendship problems. I've been drawing ever since I was three and my friend really want to get into art. My art level is about at high school and hit is more 6th grade. He keeps saying that someone is better than him than drawing in a negative tone and I'm a nice person don't get me wrong but I really don't want to intimidate hit because he's pretty much my only friend

Hi.  Sorry it took my so long to answer this.  I wanted to think about what I really wanted to say, because this is a problem that I’ve struggled with too.  In any group of art friends, there will always be a gap between people.  Even if the gap seems nonexistent because styles are so different they are impossible to compare, often artists will still see a big skill gap between themselves and their peers.  It just happens because as artists, we always see what we love about others’ work, and what we would do better in our own.  It can be harmful to someone who is still developing their art skill, but it can also be an incredible way to vault your own art.  It all depends on how you treat a situation like this.

You will never have an easier time learning art in your life than when you have easy access to someone who is better than you who can help you improve and grow artistically.  Your friend should try to see you as an asset and not as an enemy.  You are both on the same path- the path to become better artists.  You aren’t rivals!  You are fighting and growing together.  I miss more than anything the community of artists I had in school (plenty of whom were better than me, though they might not say so)  where I could just take anything I was struggling with and get an incredibly helpful critique on my work.  As artists, my friends could be insightful and constructive in ways that no one else can.

Secondly I want to share something that I heard recently that really meant a lot to me.  (I can’t remember the exact phrasing, so this is heavily paraphrased).  Artists often look at masters of the craft and say “I will never be as good as him or her!  I will never be as good as Rembrandt or Sargent or even that guy at school or work who’s amazing.”  And the truth is no you will not.  But those artists will never be as good as you either.  Artistic styles are unique to those that created them.  They are made from your own experiences and what personally moves you.  You will never be able to be Rembrandt so you will never be able to use his style as well as he personally could.  But no one else can ever be you.  You have something to say and only you can show the world what you personally see, and what is meaningful and beautiful to you.  And so I encourage your friend to find his voice.  To really study what he loves in art and stop worrying about whether or not you’re better than him.  Your art will always be you and his art will always be him.  It will be hard to improve until he stops comparing himself to others and seeing only his flaws, and not what is personal and powerful in his own work.

It’s a wall of text, I know, but it’s something that’s important to me and I’m sure to others.  I wish you luck with your friend, but I also recommend finding other common ground than art and maybe opening yourself up to a few more people so there’s less stress on your friendship.  Best of luck, I really hope it works out for the both of you.

I'm sorry, if I'm bothering you, but I would like to ask a question. How did you get do good at drawing these characters? I want to be able to draw them on my own and have my own style one day, but I'm convinced that that will never happen. I've even lost my motivation at some point. But, I want to get better. I practice, but I feel like I'm not going anywhere. Do you have any advice for me? I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, I really admire your art. And I want to become as good as you someday. -L

Hey there L!! You aren’t bothering me in the slightest~

Honestly the only advice I can give you would be to keep practicing really… I also suggest saving a bunch of work from artists you admire! Looking at their styles and how they portray the characters, and see what you like about them… see what draws you in. Liiiiiiikkke… Oh I like how this person draws the noses! I like how this one does the hands, and that one does the eyes!!
Honestly your style will come over time, and it’s usually heavily influenced by what you surround yourself with!
That being said though… you shouldn’t only focus on a style as it, again, comes with time… Do what makes you happy! Experiment, look up tutorials, speed paints… you can learn so much from these. The internet is filled with soooo much information and passion and tons of helpful tips, tricks and advice from other artists just waiting for you to find!
Yes… There will be times where you will become frustrated, unmotivated, defeated… but the main key is pushing past these walls/blocks and moving forward. I know this happens to me often as well

but… thank you for admiring me and thinking so highly of my drawings, but I’m also just a beginner! I have TONS more to learn! ^^

Remember, art isn’t a destination of point A to point B. You will eventually reach point B and go beyond it… forever. Always learning, always experimenting, always expressing. It’s a journey you may possibly be on for your entire life, should you let it!

Jules and Bernie need more appreciation tbh
Actually, a lot of Archie Sonic characters need more respect :^)
*please do not use this art or image in any way without my given permission- thank you!*
Sorry about the inactivity lately, sometimes I just forget I have a Tumblr??

I wanted to properly introduce her now that I’ve thought about her a little more. Her name is Cyrihali Lythor (Cyri). She’s from an upper-class family and has used her familial ties to get into good medical programs within the Empire. She ends up becoming a scientist with a focus of study on mutations. She specifically studies the rakghoul plague. She was working with a friend that she made in school and they were ambushed by rakghouls and her friend/colleague was infected and later turned into a rakghoul. Rather than killing her friend, she keeps her in the lab where Cyri works because she hopes one day to find a way to bring her friend back - whether that’s possible or not remains to be seen. She’s 28 and friendly/out-going. Cyrihali doesn’t have any siblings but she wishes she did. She doesn’t believe Sith are better than any other species. She’s single and ready to mingle.

I always feel like my art doesn't come up anywhere close to the people I look up to as clique artists :,))) Is that like normal to think ??? Bc I'm extremely insecure about my art and then I look up to all these amazing people and instead of feeling inspired to get better I feel extremely discouraged. It causes such awful art blocks and I hate it. do you have any tips as to how to feel a bit more confident and what you create?? Sorry for the long shitty ask but I need answers :,33

Uhmm, my only suggestion is not to set the bar to the clique artists standard. Sure there’s lot of talent in the clique, but if you really wanna learn how to grow your skills more I suggest you to look up to artists (doesn’t matter the media) who draw various concepts and people. Clique Art is inspirational but it’s also really limited to some recurrent subjects. Repetitive themes can be the death of an artist. But this is just a suggestion of course, you do you!

Also I’m not very confident in my art myself, I just learned to stop giving a f*ck about how ugly/meaningless something I do look. Because there will be someone who appreciates it no matter how painful to look at you think that artwork is, and that’s a mood boost itself!

My another entry for the cornettoadvent calendar with snuggly cop hubbies Danny and Nicholas. I’m pretty sure the weather in Sandford is awful this time of year (it’s not any better here), but thankfully electricity exists and christmas lights lift the mood at least a bit.

Happy holidays, stay warm.

Ah! Yay! Thank you! I would like to request - if possible - an AU!Klance, in a universe where they're at the same college and Keith is an artist and Lance is a football player. I'm not sure what exactly I'm asking for if I'm being honest, just any small drawing depicting something similar. I would appreciate it so much!

Ah i’m sorry i just totally realised you probably meant American football?? And i did soccer ;-; I rushed the hell out of this because my laptop charger has stopped working and i wont get a new one until the 30th! ;-; but i really liked this au and i’m probably going to draw something more serious and better with it!
