is it too late to join this fandom

Things We Don’t Tell You When You First Join The Fandom Until It’s Too Late :))

applicable to any fandom

  • you won’t get sleep, you won’t get free time, and you won’t go outside ever again
  • you unknowingly joined a cult
  • you can’t ship that without offending someone
  • you increase your vocabulary with nonsensical terms (for ex: quiznak)
  • “have you met our lord and savior [insert fandom favorite]?”
  • tbh, the lord and savior of the fandom can’t save you from SMUT
  • you’ll learn inside jokes and memes that won’t make sense out of context
  • you will cry. you will get angry. you will feel happy. you will be gettin all the feels
  • get ready to be gay bc omg they are perfect human beings
  • you may not survive the fanwars
  • we can’t explain certain things. we can’t explain or defend that one problematic but legendary fanfic (milk fic flashbacks)
  • we also can’t explain the problematic fave but he/she is here to stay
  • do you remember what life was like before the fandom?
  • [indistinct screaming]
  • fan theories will keep you up late
  • your ass belongs to the fandom now.
  • you can’t escape haha
  • you don’t want to escape…ha ha
  • the fandom can be squishy and soft and feel like a family instead of a war zone
  • be ready to be offended
  • this fandom will have a huge impact on you, most of the time it’s positive. it may seem scary at first but you learn to love and accept it. so enjoy it before it dies (MCR where u at)

Real talk for a second.

Now, I’ve never been an avid Tumblr user until this blog and my God have I never been so invested in a fandom (both with the actual content and its people), however I have been an observer, so let’s just put that out there. But Power Rangers, yes, Power Rangers, has changed that drastically. I’ve found a home in this fandom and I’d go as far as to say I’ve made a little family along the way.

I’ve always had a habit of joining a fandom too late and not feeling brave enough to approach people and to make friends and share content without abandon, but I somehow managed to join this one at just the right time. However, I doubt there even is a wrong time to join this fandom. Everyone is so inclusive and welcoming and understanding and just lovely

And I firmly believe that is down to the Power Rangers film itself and what it represents. Unity. Inclusivity. Individuality.

“Different colors! Different kids! Different-colored kids!”

This film was more than just a ‘nostalgia flick’ or another run of the mill action film. It had clear cut story-lines, diverse characters and showed their development (both individually and as a team), it had depth, but most of all, it had representation. You know, that thing that the internet is always complaining that films and TV shows never have? Well, the Power Rangers had it.

Four out of five of the Rangers were POC, they had a canon autistic character and a canon queer character (both POC; Black and Latina respectively). They had a male Asian superhero lead, the first Indian superhero, the first autistic superhero, the first queer superhero to hit mainstream media, and for the latter two to be POC as well? Do you not know how important that is?

Let me just repeat that: Do you not know how important that is? And do you know what the internet did when they were finally presented with the representation they are always, always asking for?

They slept on it.

  • me after just joining the fandom: there's so many important questions to ask after watching death note! who's in the right, L or Light? at what point is it too late to find redemption? if Light hadn't found the death note, could he and L have met and become friends in another way? do the ends justify the means?
  • me after 2 years: is light gay? would he have worn crocs? what would death note be like in 2015?
  • me after 4 years: what is the exact brand of khakis that light is wearing in episode 4, and what do they say about his socioeconomic standing? so many. important questions. so much. left to talk about.
Klance Tension (S2Ep5)

Aight forgive me, I just joined the fandom, but I need to rant about this scene a little (I’m sure it’s been done before, but bear with me).

Keith and Lance’s banter is surprisingly childish considering they’re in their late teens. It’s dialogue that one would find between a couple of 7-year-olds caught between a petty, territorial rivalry. But I think it’s deeper than that because of this.

The whole distance thing Keith keeps reiterating just adds to the strangeness of it. Here they are, fighting together and saving each other’s lives, being next to each other every step of the way. Now, when it comes to a pool, Keith decides that they should just stay far apart.

Very, very far apart.

This isn’t some fucking rivalry. This is tension.

What’s more interesting is that Keith’s comment…was unsolicited. Keith engages Lance in conversation and the first thing he says is basically “hey don’t worry about it, we’ll just not be near each other in the pool”. Keith’s remark is indicative of him voicing his own internal insecurities, perhaps about the relationship. He’s insecure and perhaps questioning what is going through Lance’s mind, and he immediately jumps to the conclusion, he’s uncomfortable. Keith assumes Lance is uncomfortable or tense because Keith IS uncomfortable and tense.

Literally yall when you have crushes and one of those awkward, “oof” moments come up between yall, the first thing you do is to set up a defense mechanism. “It’s not like I like you”, “I’m not making this awkward. This isn’t awkward at all”, “it’s not like I’m acting interested”. It’s a way of regulating your internal doubts by externally voicing out assumptions that just exacerbate the fact you have those doubts in the first place. That’s Keith. Convincing himself he doesn’t feel awkward around a half-naked Lance.

Keith repeating the distance pays homage to his internal struggles (lol) of realizing he will be in the near vicinity of shirtless!Lance. The tension is palpable and amazing and so fucking gay I love this show.

first headcanons I’m posting hahaha let’s pretend it’s not terrible

- Keith tries to cut his own hair when it’s grown out too long
- Lance walks in and IMMEDIATELY throws a hissy fit,
- “You’re going to mess up your stupid mullet!”
- So Lance takes the scissors and takes over
- Keith was resistant at first, insisting he can do it himself
- but there’s no stopping Lance once he’s got a goal set
- eventually Keith learns to relax into Lance, and secretly enjoys letting him do his hair
- Lance learned how to braid from his nieces and nephews,
- and once Keith is comfortable enough he lets Lance do intricate hairstyles on him
- His favourite one to do is a crown braid because he thinks it makes Keith look absolutely angelic

Anti and Dr. Schneeplestein

So, I have a few points to make here

First of all, Dr Schneeplestein is another SepticEgo. He is sparking a response from the community and therefore, the attention is on him.

I feel like someone may be a little jealous about this…

But, let’s think about this. Anti has appeared in 2 videos where sickness was mentioned (Jack’s I’m Sick vlog and the Epidemic video). The only video of Dr Schneeplestein shows him trying and failing to save his patient (yes he threatened Peter at one point but he was still trying to save him). Schneeple was on the side of fighting the sickness, whereas Anti was on the side of spreading it.

However, in the latest video, Schneeple is pretty adamant on killing the patient. He could have chosen the Life route and tried to save the patient, but he opted with Death instead. Both characters have now shown an interest in sickness and even more so, an interest in the death that follows.

What if they’re working together? What if the source of the infection has enlisted the help of a doctor who can offer advice and help to spread it further.

[Additional point: Or what if Anti has corrupted him! He was a doctor trying to save his patients and suddenly he wants them dead? What if Anti’s ‘sickness’ effected Schneeple more because he’s another alter ego and now Anti has him under his influence]

The Septic Virus is spreading people. It might be too late to find salvation

Remember, JSE fandom! We may have made Anti strong, but we can make him weak too! It’s never to late to join the fight against him! Tag your art/edits of Jack, Chase, Dr. Schneeplestein, etc. with #SepticSave to defend them from Anti. Together, we’ll do what this fandom is known for…

BE LOUD!

Never really talked about it this way, a convo made me think: how much are people aware about Wakfu and its fandom? How many people feel lost, confused, out of touch. Some don’t even know what Wakfu is, although it’s mostly what I post here.

So let me explain and tell about the tumblr Wakfu community a little! \o/ Like it’s my own home and I show you, here’s the living room, kitchen here, bathroom here. x’D I’m one of the oldest fandom members that are still active, and my blog receives a decent user flow, so I thought making such a post would be fun and helpful.

A standard introduction: Wakfu, along with Dofus and several other products, is a part of cross-media called Krosmoz, vizualized by the super talented french guys, Ankama.
Cross-media is: several animated series, short animations, a film, comics of many different styles, and, of course, games. I’m primarily on the gaming side of the community, though I watched (and rewatched) all the animations. Here you can find and watch/read most of the media for free. Other titles can be easily googled.

What initially drew my attention, is this trailer. It was my “door” into the Krosmoz universe. Ankama’s visual style is just flawless, they had me the moment I saw it. So, if you’re hearing of Wakfu for the first time, give this trailer a shot.

If you’ve been around for a while but feel there’s no fandom or it’s too tiny or scattered, check out the Wakfu tag. It’s still alive, even to my own surprise.
When I joined in 2012, there was something like a cozy family that played the mmo, roleplayed and talked about their characters. Those people are mostly gone by now, but they made the best first impression for me. Lately, there was a noticeable activity increase and new user flux, so I thought it’s the right time to make such a post. The tag lives again, yay! \o/

Everyone’s up to their own business, but sometimes you see a few posts tagged as Sacrier Saturday and such on. I saw people being confused and asking what’s that, uh.. It’s just an unspoken tradition started by hell knows who. :D A fun, silly little celebration.
There are, to my knowledge: Masqueraider Monday, Toddler Tuesday, Feca Friday, Sacrier Saturday and Sadida Sunday. (psst you can come up with another day idea)
They’re unofficial, fan-driven, recurring mini-events. You draw, talk, post any type content about a certain thing on a certain day. Visit the respective tag to see others’ stuff and feel good, that’s just it. <3

Recently I had a talk about artists, how barely visible they are. This post’s initial purpose was to actually give a spotlight to my favorite Wakfu artists, so that they can get the love they deserve, and people can find more cool creators to follow.

Off the top of my head. Mid to high quality art, those who post at least once in a while. There’s actually more awesome peeps and hopefully you’ll find ‘em. C: You can reblog and add your personal favs!

loverofscythe | atomic-soldier | followthechick | shushuccubus (may contain nsfw) | eniripsa | deviched | nat-just | robotrigger | flora-fatale | hua333 (may contain nsfw) | davidohdrums | awful-fortune | ony-b | thingsofthebrain | sailorleo | wakkass | mini-amiya | my bff aketan, of course :9

If you’re not okay and want your name removed from the list, just message me >////< I wanna spread the love, you guys make me happy whenever I see you in the tag. You might not even know how much I adore your arts and OCs because I mostly never crawl out of my shell and communicate. Let this post be an exception. I love your stuff and you’re the best. <3 Keep rockin’!

lapetiten  asked:

In which book did we find out that the Beatrice that Lemony loved was the same person as the Baudelaires' mother? I read the books a little out of order when I was a child, so I don't remember. I was thinking it was in Letters to Beatrice, but I think I knew before that. I read an article about the Netflix show that was explaining some "spoilers" that would show up on later seasons. I didn't realize that the connection to the Baudelaire's mother was not clear to people who did not read the book.

Depends on what you define as “find out”. Daniel Handler gives more and more clues pointing towards Beatrice’s identity as the series goes on, and they become less and less subtle.

In “The Wide Window”, we find out that Olaf once committed arson, which would make any reader think of the Baudelaire fire at this point. In “The Miserable Mill”, we find out that Lemony and Beatrice knew Olaf. But the big kicker would be the events of “The Erstaz Elevator”: Beatrice is finally acknowledged outside of Lemony’s narration and Esme admits she’s helping Olaf harm the Baudelaire orphans because she hates her.

Mr. Poe frowned, and coughed into his white handkerchief. “That’s enough of your revolting talk, Olaf,” he said sternly. “We’ve caught you now, and there’s no way you’ll be getting away. The Lake Lachrymose Police Department will be happy to capture a known criminal wanted for fraud, murder, and the endangerment of children.”
“And arson,” Count Olaf piped up.

[The Wide Window, Chapter Thirteen]

He began to feel along the side of the building to find the door, and at this point in the story of the Baudelaire orphans, I would like to interrupt for a moment and answer a question I’m sure you are asking yourself. It is an important question, one which many, many people have asked many, many times, in many, many places all over the world. The Baudelaire orphans have asked it, of course. Mr. Poe has asked it. I have asked it. My beloved Beatrice, before her untimely death, asked it, although she asked it too late. The question is: Where is Count Olaf?
[The Miserable Mill, Chapter Eight]

“But I want to steal from you,” Esmé said. “I want to steal from you the way Beatrice stole from me.”
[The Ersatz Elevator, Chapter Ten]

So from these 3 clues alone it’s already possible to suspect that there’s a connection between Mrs. Baudelaire and Beatrice. That being said, only the most obssessive readers would realize that at this point. I joined the Snicket fandom circa January 2005, and threads about this theory were all over the fan message boards. “The Grim Grotto” had just been published and with it had sank the popular theory that Mrs. Baudelaire was actually Lemony’s sister. So Beatrice became the default option to solve the Beatrice mystery.

Technically the identity of Beatrice is “revealed” in the last word of the last and fourteenth chapter of the last book in the series. Olaf’s boat is revealed to be named after Mrs. Baudelaire, and soon after that, we learn the name of said boat as Kit’s baby daughter says it. But that’s more of a canonical confirmation than a reveal.

There are some words, of course, that are better left unsaid but not, I believe, the word uttered by my niece, a word which here means that the story is over. Beatrice.
[Chapter Fourteen]

Looking back, it’s not an amazing “plot-twist” in the slightest but the series’ weird narration really sells it. It entirely plays on assumptions, clichés and stereotypes. It’s frequent for children’s books not to give names to adult characters, who are defined by their social roles, so the fact that Mrs. Baudelaire’s first name is never used does not seem out of place. Parents are entirely defined by their children so the idea that Mrs. Baudelaire may have loved other men before her husband is unthinkable, etc.

Mostly it depends on what age you read the series. Younger readers tend not to focus as much on the subplot about Lemony’s past so the clues go right past them and they figure out the truth in the last book. Older readers, especially the teenagers who had to wait a full year to discuss the plot between each books’ publication, tend to predict the plottwist several books before that.

The 100 S3 Hiatus Diary

Once again, let me present to you a chronicle of our fandom’s most glorious hiatus moments. In truest hyperbole fashion we did not scale back after last year’s already impressive BS recordings. Here’s all the drama we managed to fit into the 257 days between the Season 3 finale on May 19, 2016 and the Season 4 premiere on February 1, 2017:

FYI: Entries are mostly focused on the Twitter fandom unless otherwise noted. Also beware, this diary deliberately generalises from the loud few to the many.

Day 2: Emma Caulfield of EW writes a *love letter* bashing Bellamy into a verb and adjective. Half of the fandom cackles, other half is ready to “bellamy” her.

Day 3: Ongoing belittling of Jasper’s PTSD in tandem with outrage from same people that show didn’t depict enough PTSD victims.

Day 6: #GiveBellamyBlakeABoyfriend circulates and is amusingly shared by lovers and haters.

Day 7: Kass Morgan is confronted with fandom members defacing and even burning her books. Because we are classy.

Day 10: Tumblr heats up when Johnny Depp beating Amber Heard gets compared to how Bellamy treats Clarke. Because bisexuality. Oh yes.

Day 11: Devon zings Harry Styles - and popstars in general - for trying to act. Somewhere Shawn Mendes cries a tear.

Day 12: The Fandom-is-Broken article hits. Outrage everywhere, while our fandom is like “yup, sounds about right”.

Day 15: Bob at Phoenix con says Bellamy wouldn’t have sided with Pike had Clarke returned earlier. Somehow he gets hate for that. Still unclear why. Most likely for no reason at all.

Day 16: More Phoenix con: Bob utters word “YET”, causes avalanche. Emma Caulfield tweets her and Bob’s are besties now. Fandom responds in typical forgiving ways.

Day 18: Tumblr has Brollexa gaining traction among BCers, the polyamorous turn it into Clexamy. Not appreciated by the CL fandom. Devon tweet-deletes, shits on cast members for making money off cons instead of donating to charity.

Day 21: Eliza and Bob get nominated for Teenchoice TV Chemistry. Disgust in CL fandom as entertaining as surprise in BC fandom.

Day 23: Fan at Oz Comic Con asks Eliza about Chemistry nomination and gets booed. Bob speaks slloooowwwhhhuuurr to the iddiiiooootttss on twitter. Most likely entirely unrelated.

Day 24: Eliza gets called fake/lost/drunk by BC fandom for voicing opinions about Bellarke. Beware of having opinions about ships.

Day 25: Bob replies to hate tweet. Backfires into him getting criticised for passive aggressively focusing on negativity only.

Day 26: First hiatus hack! Eliza’s instagram. Leads to Alycia unfollowing her. Fandom entertained for a while. Plus the gem of someone comparing Lexa’s death to the Orlando shooting.

Day 28: Alycia cancels Brazil con. In a roundabout way it’s Bob’s fault.

Day 31: On the shipping front Bob  & Shampoo compete against Lexa & Bullet. Because why not.

Day 33: Somehow BC fandom hits jackpot by criticising both Adina and Mike on same day. For not being pro-BC enough. Adina! Mike!

Day 35: Layne Morgan attacks Ben Batemen for elevating himself to lgbt+ spokesperson. Fanbase first stunned, then divided.

Day 37: Second hiatus hack! Layne’s phone. Apparently private numbers get leaked, some idiots message Jason’s wife.

Day 41: Third hiatus hack! (@)emiliascara hacks into Marcus Catsaras’ (Alycia’s boyfriend) icloud, finds footage of him cheating. Catsaras deletes his twitter/fb accounts. Because hell has no fury like a riled-up CL fandom.

Day 42: Lindsey jumps in to fight hackers, (@)morleydebnam jokes about hacking Lindsey.

Day 44: Hacker exposed as guy from Toronto (Michael Brand/Bahramian).

Day 46: CL fandom overruns and impressively wins 9 of 11 E!Online polls. Still peeved over other fandoms bonding and voting against them.

Day 48: Jarod speaks up after Alton Sterling shooting. Ends with him getting attacked over *representation* issues.

Day 52: Eliza vs Alycia in Radiotimes quarter finals. Which fosters minor drama.

Day 56: Layne officially disinvited from clexacon.

Day 57: Some panelists boycott clexacon after Layne’s exit. Meanwhile the gullible have a clickbait-freakout over O killing Bellamy.

Day 58: Ben Bateman steps back from clexacon allies panel. (@)riserellamy makes it their mission to get all Arryn-haters blocked by Bob.

Day 59: Eliza talks freely and excessively about Lexa and Clexa at Brazil Con. BC fandom really wishes she wouldn’t.

Day 60: From the fanfic policing front: Author gets such harsh attacks for writing Lexamy they pull the fic.

Day 61: S3 DVD is out! Deleted scenes reheat old rage. While Ricky retweets shade about him not being in the bloopers.

Day 62: #OlicityMafiaExposedClexaParty happens. CL fandom first fandom ever to cheat in a poll.

Day 64: She said “ship”.

Day 65: Whole fandom aflame over the shit/ship debacle. Shit memes everywhere. Aaron doesn’t give a SHIT. Eliza probably avoids her mentions. Tumblr births Bellarke Drags. The best of days.

Day 66: clexasources promotes WB survey asking people to criticise show. Eliza shall be saved by cancellation.

Day 67: ELSchaaf claims Eliza speaks condescendingly of Bellarke because she’s threatened by Bob’s popularity. Fandom appalled. In conjunction CLs figure out ELSchaaf is involved with Unity Days.

Day 68: ELSchaaf on tumblr rampage, invites haters to call her names at con in person. Unity Days reacts swiftly and removes ELSchaaf.

Day 70: Bellarke Shit necklace sparks controversy.

Day 73: Wizard Con: Marie says Clarke has *nappy* hair which Eliza laughs at. Racism outrage in some fandom corners.

Day 75: Jason’s SDCC talk about bi-Clarke getting “with everyone” resurfaces. Not the most well received. clexasources deactivates after Bob+Eliza photo post leads to attacks by followers.

Day 78: Supposed insider troll Jason Blue stirs up rumour drama of Octavia dying.

Day 82: Bellarke fanart repurposed as Braven fanart. Bob-birthday charity criticised for being organised by a BC shipper.

Day 84: Pedowitz stands behind show at TCAs, does neither criticise nor cancel it on the spot, as some had hoped.

Day 103: Fanfic policing, part 2: Bellamy goes down on Clarke in the commander’s throne. People - ignorant of the concept of *fanfiction* - are mad.

Day 106: Eliza posts candid pic with guy-boy-friend. Apparently this makes her a lesser lgbt+ ally.

Day 111: Fanfic’s blowjobgate! Briller&Harper fic on kinkmemes ignites long and nasty Bellarke fanfic community wars. Who gets to and with whom and with how many is not the author’s choice alone.

Day 125: Tumblr aflame over Bellamy hating Aurora Blake, with usual shades of misogyny and racism.

Day 130: HYPE article about ADC at Copenhagen Con calls out fans for slightly inappropriate fan behavior. More inappropriate fan behavior in reaction leads to article edits.

Day 132: Kim retweets Fa Panini’s cute Becho fanart. BC fandom takes that as confirmation of things to come. Mild panic.

Day 135: A clearly mangled and misrepresented SDCC comment about Clarke and love interest in S4 causes freakout. Because fandom will forever step into all clickbait traps willingly.

Day 144: The usual bi-monthly kerfuffle about Clarke being forgotten as bi-rep in article.

Day 145: Layne Morgan sick of TV bi girls ending up with men. Not that stats have discredited this stereotype at all.

Day 155: Supposed insider troll Jason Blue claims insider cancellation knowledge. Insider arguments quickly debunked.

Day 159: Photoshopped Variety tweet circulates, claiming show cancellation. Mo Ryan refutes it.

Day 165: Lindsey stumbles into sexypilgrim drama. Apologises later for wishing people would get involved in causes beyond online outrage.

Day 166: Press day! Drama day! Fandom-uneducated Nadia voices “Luna is stronger than Lexa”. She may forever feel the consequences.

Day 167: Nadia tweets “Fiction”, deletes account. #NadiaDeactivatedParty follows. Eliza and later Arryn claim account is fake. Fandom thinks Eliza would rather lie than defend Nadia and her anti-Lexa statement.

Day 170: Meanwhile in the fanfic warzone: “Bellamy rapes Lexa” gets countered with “Lexa castrates Bellamy”.

Day 190: Bob reaches annual patience-for-twitter threshold, carries out annual twitter deactivation. States he was made to join. Fandom: lol, ok, see you in a bit.

Day 199: Bellarke and Clexa both in same Hottest-Ships-of-the-Year list. But fandom can’t share nice things.

Day 201: Guess who’s back on twitter, guys?

Day 216: BC-shipping jewellery artist called out for making money off Clexa art. Not allowed in the age of receipts.

Day 219: In spirit of Christmas, Aaron issues Lexa apology. Fandom - less spirited - counters it’s 9 months too late, and never enough.

Day 221: Katie affirms in slightly too bitter way that show is more than just Clexa. Bad move, girl.

Day 222: (@)bellamysbriller - whom Katie retweeted the day before - is exposed for catfishing and bullying.

Day 228: More jewellery controversies, as jewellery donations to charities can only come from people who’ve never made controversial statements.

Day 233: clexaspoilers surfaces, claims access to screeners, reveals Clexa parts. Fandom calls it baiting to make them watch, even though account claims now they DON’T have to watch.

Day 238: BC fandom gets high on SHE HAS BELLAMY, and actually manages to trend for once. Stunning friends and foes alike.

Day 241: Unity Days report of Lindsey supposedly saying Bellarke is boring. Lindsey gets attacked and goes on twitter detox. BC fandom to blame.

Day 243: Fourth hiatus hack! Ricky’s phone. Beware of Ricky nudes.

Day 245: Alycia’s management removes The 100 from “known for” section on IMDB. BCers shocked, CLs shrug.

Day 248: BCers think 600 cookies might be helpful for show renewal. Laughs and eyerolls all around.

Day 249: S4 poster arrives. Cast, writers and fans partake in a who’s-who guessing game with silhouettes. Body shaming leads to #titsoutforeliza, someone leaks S4 callsheets and Funko whitewashes Raven and Bellamy. A busy day.

Day 252: CLs set up White House petition to get Jason fired. A single signature last we checked.

Day 257: Final hiatus day: (@)the100leaked pops up to generously leak part of the Season 4 finale script and cause mass hysteria. Tadaaaaa!

And that’s it! See you all next hiatus! Just kidding. I accept more entries, if you can link me to the evidence.

So the CS wedding is finally happening .. I binged watched OUAT before S6 so I didn't get to spend much time in the fandom so I thought it'll be fun to relive CS moments with CSers who were there from the start! When/how/why did you know that CS was the ship for you? What are your top three romantic CS scenes? What are you top three angsty CS scenes? What are your top 3 CS kisses? What is your most memorable CS related fandom moment? What is one thing you would still like to see happen with CS?

Wow. I never thought I’d get questions like this, give me some time, will ya?

Haha nope, I’m kidding. Also, this will be filled with gifs, so beware *gifs not mine, credit to all owners

I knew they were THE ship for me when Killian turned his ship around and decided to stay and help (even though it was too late by then since the device used to destroy SB was already taken care of). As well as Emma’s words in Granny’s diner that had an effect on him before

“You can join us and be a part of something, or you can do what you can do best, and be alone.”

And even after.

I thought you didn’t care about anyone but yourself.”

There’s also the fact that since we’ve known Emma, up until that point and even during early season 2 she had these walls up to keep people out, to protect herself from getting heartbroken again. Then this man comes along and turns her world on its axis.

Then we have him pretty much reading her like an open book

Have you ever been in love?

No. I have never been in love.

Gosh making me think about Tallahassee makes it obvious from the start, doesn’t it? Hell their whole adventure in that episode was the best.

When they were first one screen together, you can automatically sense that chemistry, that they’re pretty alike in the things they do or say. Even the way they parallel each other is a bonus. They’re kindred spirits. I pretty much thought he was a jerk with a cocky attitude and that made me love him, to be honest. I’m a sucker for a bad boy meets girl and falls head over heels and becomes a better man not only for her, but mostly for himself.

(You’re really making me work for this.)

Top 3 romantic CS scenes?

1. Their first date

2. Their 2nd proposal

3. Their 2nd dance in Camelot.

Bonus moment, but it hasn’t happened: Obviously their wedding!

Top 3 angsty moments? - Come prepared with some tissues.

1. His first death in Birth

2. His second death in Swan Song

3. The elevator of tears in Firebird

Top 3 kisses?

1. The “I love you.” lift kiss in An Untold Story

^^^ Oh look it’s my good friend, Foreshadowing. Isn’t it great?

2. The “You traded your ship for me?” “Aye.” Captain Swan Movie kiss

3. The now that we’re alone kiss aka the leg is up and the booty will be grabbed kiss in The Savior

Most memorable fandom moment?

It’d be probably have to be when we can all freak out when we get a spoiler relating to CS, whether it be a small one, like a script tease that sometimes might not even make it in the episode or a big one like the wedding being announced in the musical episode as well as first look at her wedding dress. We tend to lose our shit a lot. I really love that.

And finally, a CS moment that hasn’t happened yet that I’d like to see?

Well my obvious answer would have to be Captain Swan tacos/coffee/sexy times whatever you want to call it lol. I would also say their wedding, but since we’re getting that, I’ll remove it from the list. I guess I’m gonna have to go with a Captain Swan baby. I mean, have you seen these two? Their baby would turn heads.

Woobification In Fandom Culture

I spend a lot of my time on Tumblr. Possibly too much time, however I don’t go outside. On Tumblr it isn’t uncommon to be immersed in something called a fandom. I have so far been in 3 Tumblr fandoms. My first one was Homestuck, however I joined really late. The comic ended about 2 years after I officially joined the fandom. It was a strange experience to be my first online fandom. Many people shipped sort of incestuous ships. However, a lot of the ships weren’t directly incestuous so it was more forgivable. You may be wondering how Homestuck and it’s weird fandom has anything to do with woobification.

The Homestuck fandom was mainly teenagers or young adults. The characters were all teenagers, it was a coming of age story. A lot of the characters were very violent. You could go anywhere in the fandom sphere and see someone say “I love Gamzee, he’s so precious. He doesn’t deserve to be treated badly.” However this wasn’t exactly the case. In the beginning, yes Gamzee did deserve to be treated better. However he had a mental breakdown and went on a murderous rampage. People in the fandom sort of ignored that until he started killing their favorite characters. Some still ignored it, shipping him with multiple of his victims.

I was able to escape the Homestuck fandom by entering another one. This one was even more hellish. This fandom used to rule Tumblr, some argue that it still does. This show has gone on too long and has a gif for everything, even if you don’t ask for it. This fandom is notorious for queerbaiting and shipping wars. I’m talking about the Supernatural fandom. Another one I entered late. I got into it between seasons 10 and 11. People are still arguing whether it’s okay to ship Sam and Dean, or if it’s better to ship Destiel.

The Supernatural fandom has woobified every character at least once. Prior to season 11 it was very common for fans to demand the writers bring back the antagonist Lucifer. They say he was misunderstood, that he wasn’t bad, that they love him, even though he literally wanted to kill every human on existence because his dad was mean to him.

The Supernatural fandom acts like Castiel, an angel, a literal warrior of God, is a precious child who doesn’t understand social interaction. In the canon of the show, at one point he could kill someone with the snap of his fingers. The fandom acts like Sam and Dean would not be able to harm them, when Dean would happily slit their throat if they stepped too out of line.

The third fandom I entered was the It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia fandom. You may be wondering “why is that a fandom?” well the answer to that is: I don’t know. It’s a good show. People like to bond over shows they like. This fandom is the calmest one I have ever been involved in. I entered the fandom during season 12, which is actually about when an actual Tumblr fandom rose. Prior to this, most people would have reaction gifs or images from the show. Even though I hadn’t seen the show yet, I saw captioned screenshots from the show on my dashboard from time to time. It was a well known show, it had been on for over a decade. I had seen promos for the show while having FX on as background noise, I remember the black and white promos from season 9 saying they were switching to FXX.

This show, at it’s core, is about terrible people doing terrible things. It’s a satire of ignorant white Americans. Some people call the characters sociopaths. All of them are damaged, there I no arguing. They all have trauma. Mac is gay and came out at 40 years old, due to his Catholic upbringing. Charlie is illiterate and stalks a woman, who he doesn’t even know her name. Dennis was raped at 14 and uses sex as a form of manipulation and a way to assert himself in society. Dee was abused by her parents and her peers, and she lashes out on other women to make herself feel better. Frank was also abused as a child, he grew to be greedy and neglectful. All of these characters are alcoholics and substance abusers.

These characters are also extremely racist and bigoted. They’re just plain awful people. The first episode of the series is titled “The Gang Gets Racist”. In the fourth episode of the first season, titled “Charlie Has Cancer”, in which Charlie pretends to have cancer so he can gain sympathy from the woman he stalks, Mac and Dennis try to set Charlie up with a woman, they fail miserably and Mac begins a relationship with a trans woman named Carmen. Mac and the rest of the gang refers to her as “the tranny”, which is a transphobic slur.

At the end of the day, none of these characters ever get what they want. Fans woobify these characters by treating Charlie like a five year old child who couldn’t hurt a fly, when in canon he regular kills rats by bashing them with baseball bats, one of which has a chain and nails sticking out of it. In the episode A Very Sunny Christmas, Charlie bites a mall Santa’s neck, causing terror and tremendous blood loss, possibly death. There is no arguing whether Dennis is a serial rapist or not. He is, it is literally canon, however many people don’t necessarily talk about it. No one talks about Dee also being a serial rapist. Both Reynolds twins manipulate people for sex, usually nonconsensual.

Mac and Dee are guilty of blackface and other racist costume types. People point out that it was a bad choice to include these things, as casual viewers, and people who aren’t aware of the satire, would normalize it. Plus it was just in bad taste.

Some people lower Mac to this husk of The Gay Man, and ignore his other extremely interesting character flaws. People lower Dennis to The Emotional One, when he is a very sinister person. People make Dee to be The Tragic Female, when she brings it on herself sometimes, she is an awful person. People think of Charlie as The Dumb One when he sometimes can be the most intelligent one, and the most manipulative. People don’t even talk about Frank. If you take one member of the gang away from the others and make 100% sure that they can not go near the others, they won’t magically become better people. They would wreak havoc alone.

Woobification takes dimension away from characters. It is important to take a step away from the fandom versions of characters and reevaluate characters. You can enjoy a character who is an awful person. You don’t have to apologize for liking them. Your favorite character can be the “villain”. Every character has their own motivations and reasons for acting the way they do. Usually it is due to their upbringing. You can like The Bad Guy as long as you don’t ignore all of the interesting facets of their personalities. Every character deserves to have multiple dimensions.
