Day Five: Results

Request: Hi! Love your writing ❤️💗❤️💗❤️💗 Anyway, I was wondering if you could do a prompt where Dick’s wife, Y/N, tells him she’s pregnant on Christmas? Bat fam included and lots of fluff pls! Thanks so much! 😘

 [•] [•] [•]

Ever since you found out that you were pregnant, the world seemed brighter and more peaceful. Was this normal for future mothers, or was it just you?

You and Dick have been trying for a baby ever since your wedding night, but it had been almost two years since then and you both had slowly begun to lose hope.

But then you started throwing up in the mornings.

At first you thought that maybe it was a result of something you ate, which wasn’t unusual for a woman to think. That speculation was soon eliminated when you realized that you had also missed your period.

After getting a blood test, (you really didn’t want to urinate in a cup or on a stick) your doctor confirmed that you were indeed pregnant.

You decided conspire with Damian, who had been surprisingly ecstatic about the news, to come up with a way to tell Dick. Seeing as Christmas was only a few more days away, Damian suggested you reveal your pregnancy then. And you agreed.

Days seemed to pass by like months, but eventually December 25th did com.

You almost regretted agreeing with Damian’s plan because, even though you knew that Dick would no doubt be happy about becoming a father, you couldn’t help but list out all the negative outcomes.

Stephanie, from her spot beside Tim, furrowed her eyebrows worriedly as she watched you continuously glance over at Dick. “Are you all right, Y/N? You look like you’re about to throw up.” She said this quite loud and you internally groaned.

You loved Stephanie, but out of all the times she had to ask you about how you were, it had to be on the day you didn’t want her to.

Almost immediately all eyes were all you and Dick was by your side in a second. “I’m fine” you said, smiling weakly. You dismissed Dick’s natural mother hen instincts and squeezed his hand assuringly, “Don’t worry about me, babe. I’m just nervous about whether or not you guys’ll like your gifts.“

Damian rolled his eyes and scoffed, “You do not have anything to worry about, Y/N. I am certain Grayson will treasure his.“

 There was a brief pause.

Tim and Jason exchanged mutual looks of amusement before they bursted out laughing. "D-Did the brat j-just make a s-sarcastic remark about s-sex, replacement?” Jason stuttered, trying to get his words out.

Tim nodded his head vigorously and responded, “I think h-he did, Jay!"

Dick and Stephanie appeared startled while you glowered at them for their immature comment. They had such dirty minds!

"Imbeciles!” Damian ridiculed, “How dare you think I would ever do such a thing. Unlike you, Drake and especially unlike you, Todd, I have morals and I would never—"

"Go against your precious Grayson.” Jason mocked, “Yeah, yeah, we know, sport. Stop kissing Dickie’s ass for once, will ya? It’s embarrassing to watch."

"You two are so childish.” Stephanie huffed, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

Damian, who was currently as red as a baboon’s butt, marched over to the large Christmas tree and pulled out a small box from underneath.

Your eyes widened. It was the box that contained your test results from the clinic. You watched helplessly as Damian shoved it in Dick’s hand.

Flabbergasted and not knowing what to do, Dick stared at both his little brother and the box.

Tt, it is not rocket science, Grayson; open it.” Damian demanded, annoyance evident in his tone.

Closing your eyes, you anxiously waited for the surprised gasp to escape your husband’s lips. And sure enough, a second or two later, it did.

YA literature with cool, international settings:

  • A Thousand Nights by E.K Johnston (set in an unspecified desert and it’s wicked!)
  • Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (mostly taking place in beautiful Paris)
  • The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd (set in London and then for the majority of the book on a mysterious Island somewhere near Australia)
  • His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman (taking place in various awesomely imagined locations including the far north of Europe and Oxford in England)
  • Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor (the first book in the series happens in Prague and Morocco. It’s as amazing as it sounds!)

I’ll mess it up, Alex. I mess everything good in my life up, and we work as friends really well and – and I don’t wanna mess that up.

You won’t mess anything up. Last night, before the tree, you asked me a question. You wanted to hear me say the words. So I’m saying them. Right now.

I don’t hear anything.

Due to a trip to Norfolk, I missed International Kissing Day in the UK. Dash it - but better late than never ;o)

Maybe it’s the long, lazy days, or maybe it’s the heat making everyone a little bit crazy. Whatever the reason, summer is the perfect time for love to bloom. Summer Days & Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories, written by twelve bestselling young adult writers and edited by the international bestselling author Stephanie Perkins, will have you dreaming of sunset strolls by the lake. So set out your beach chair and grab your sunglasses. You have twelve reasons this summer to soak up the sun and fall in love.

Featuring stories by Leigh Bardugo, Francesca Lia Block, Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare, Brandy Colbert, Tim Federle, Lev Grossman, Nina LaCour, Stephanie Perkins, Veronica Roth, Jon Skovron, and Jennifer E. Smith.

I am so excited that everyone can finally read these stories, and I’m going to tell you a little bit about mine. “Inertia” is about love (of course), friendship, weird future tech, taking care of each other, taking care of your own brain, and probability. I don’t want to say much more than that, because I don’t want to spoil anything, but this was my playlist when I was working on it:

“Hot Gates” - Mumford & Sons

“Tompkins Square Park” - Mumford & Sons

“John My Beloved” - Sufjan Stevens

“Fourth of July” - Sufjan Stevens*

*Actually, the entire album Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens

“Severed Crossed Fingers” - St. Vincent

“Crush Tape” - Zero 7

“I of the Storm” - Of Monsters and Men
