Imagine in the next Metroid for Nintendo Switch, Samus has a kid (Who you can change the gender and give him/her a name) Imagine space mom Samus.
Samus would be an unbeatable mother. Someone bullying the kid at school? Samus turns up outside the school gates and just the mere sight and presence of her is enough to put an end to it. Summer holidays? Got some of the fastest unique inter-galactic-warping Chozo tech gunships and a wealth of bounty money, let’s do a tour of the universe. Don’t wanna eat your veggies? It’s okay kid, no disgusting greens here. Just good ol’ nutritious birdseed.
It would probably be difficult to raise a kid, because Samus has so many enemies out there. Logically, Samus would realise it’s best not to have one. Given her genetic alterations and such, she probably couldn’t if she tried. So to end up with a kid, Aliens-style orphan adoption seems the most likely- also given Samus’ sympathy for vulnerable people, and personal experience with having been in that situation. Maybe she rescues a kid, trying to get them to the nearest outpost and leave them in safe hands, shenanigans ensue and her whole mission plan is basically thwarted and re-written because now she has to complete objectives while trapped on some planet(s) and also keep this kid out of danger. But by the end of it, she’s become an important part of the kid’s life and doesn’t want to just send the poor child off to god knows where on their own.
Suppose it could make for some interesting gameplay- not that I really know how to make a game in the slightest, but it would be interesting to see how they use the presence of the kid to shake up the exploration. And draw on fear for the kid’s safety to enhance the sense of isolation and looming threat.
