integrated chips

the other thing to get around is the fact that its kind of hard to make most insects taste Good, at least to the palates we’ve developed in our culture. theres not much meat on them so they have to be eaten like a snack food and seasoned like chips or integrated into other things to meet typical american standards of “worth consuming”

and also since theyre so small theres usually no disguising the insect-ness of the thing youre eating, since it usually means youre basically eating the whole animal. and western culture in general Already teaches people to be horrified and repulsed by insects, and now youre being asked to put the whole thing in your mouth and eat it.

so basically i think it would take a lot to bring insects up from their status as a novelty food at best bc culturally we are so geared away from eating them (for no real reason either lol)

The Megaprocessor

The Megaprocessor is a micro-processor built large. Very large.

How? Like all modern processors the Megaprocessor is built from transistors. It’s just that instead of using teeny-weeny ones integrated on a silicon chip it uses discrete individual ones like those below. Thousands of them. And loads of LEDs.

Why? Computers are quite opaque, looking at them it’s impossible to see how they work. What I would like to do is get inside and see what’s going on.  Trouble is we can’t shrink down small enough to walk inside a silicon chip. But we can go the other way; we can build the thing big enough that we can walk inside it. Not only that we can also put LEDs on everything so we can actually SEE the data moving and the logic happening. It’s going to be great.
