Inspire Day Updates!

Can I just say that Inspire Day was AMAZING.

It was such an enjoyable experience! I saw and did and learned so many things! And half of them I can’t even talk about! But it was great.

For starters, I got to go inside THIS BUILDING. WHERE SOME AWESOME PEOPLE GO TO WORK EVERY DAY! (but unlike the people interested in Production Management or something, I didn’t get to go inside the big hat).

We saw some cool behind-the-scenes stuff, discussed how the movies are made, had lunch with people who worked in our areas of interest. For me, I got to meet some awesome Visual Development people. I ate lunch with Jim Finn, got my portfolio reviewed by Bill Schwab, and met other cool people like Brittney Lee and Helen Chen. And that’s only a few people that I talked to! It was so awesome.

AND I got this cool swag bag of stuff!

Yes, there is a print AND a poster inside. And guess what else!?!

I got an awesome Inspire Day T-shirt!

This awesome Disney Animation Studios sketchbook! Words cannot express how excited I am to use this thing! I needed a new sketchbook anyway!

For a long time now, I wasn’t sure if I had made the right decision to pursue art as a career. I was constantly disappointed with myself and my abilities, and wasn’t even sure what I wanted anymore.

Then I got to Inspire Day, and the moment Jim Finn started talking to us and answering our questions, and even later when we went to meet the other Vis. Dev. people, I thought, “Why the hell am I even worrying?! OBVIOUSLY this is what I want to do with my life!" I started to feel better about my abilities, and had some direction about what I had to do next to achieve my goals. Inspire Day was meant to INSPIRE, and it did.

And just as I was about to leave, I ran into one of the recruitment people, and a group of other people and I started talking to her. One of the guys in the group asked her, "What made you choose us?”

Her response made me feel so much better about myself.

She said that when they were looking at our portfolios and our applications, they saw a love and passion for the industry. Everyone chosen was there that day because the recruitment people saw a spark in us. They saw that we had potential.

I was so happy to hear that. Out of who knows how many students applied… out of ALL THE PEOPLE they chose, I was fortunate enough to be among them. Which means I have that spark.

I have that potential.
