I know I’m not the first person to say this but one of the reasons I think Ingrids video/ coming out in general is so great is because the majority of big youtubers who have come out in the past few years have been guys (and know that I’m in no way saying that their coming out was any less important than hers) but then there’s Ingrid who has always been seen as this girly-girl with her cute outfits, makeup, and her cute boyfriends, and I think it’s safe to say that it came as a pretty big shock to most of us when she came out. I wish it wasn’t this way, but there’s definitely a stereotype around lesbians, and Ingrid smashed that more “masculine” stereotype when she came out. I think that her video will genuinely help a ton of girls who are thinking things like “I’m think I might be gay but I love dresses and makeup and stuff” realize that they don’t need to fall under all the typical characteristics of their sexuality. I’m absolutely beyond proud of Ingrid and I love her to bits.
If you feel pressure to have it all figured out, don’t. Everyone is trying to figure things out! Life is wonderful. Life sucks. Life is weird. Learn, evolve, roll with the punches and just know you’re not alone. We’re all in this together. [x]
Ingrid’s coming out video is so important. Not only does it break the non-feminine lesbian stereotypes, but she also gave a glimpse of what it’s actually like to be closeted. It’s living in denial. It’s doing what you think is best for other people before doing what’s best for you. It’s confusing and scary. She was so articulate and vulnerable and her video made an enormous impact. But the best part, I think, is at the end when she yells “I’m so excited!” Because that’s what it’s like. That’s what it’s like to come out to supportive people, to be free. It’s exciting.
