I had a dream about syndisparklez last night that involved tom and jordan watching a movie or something and everything was all friendly until tom got all cuddly cuz that’s how he be and started trying to lay on jordan and kiss him but because jordan was giggling and trying to avoid tom, tom just settled for pecking jordan’s neck which made jordan giggle even more and eventually tom got brave/mischievous and started to feel up jordan and even though jordan was surprised, he kinda just went with it and started moaning a little whilst trying halfheartedly to push tom away while tom was just murmuring jordan’s name and “kiss me” like in the goddamn vlog. FOOK. idk, it ended there because my brain was like, “okay new scenario that is completely random and unrelated.” You can just imagine a dream officer pulling me away by my feet as I tried to stay lol XD idk
alright!since i want to have a more intricate timeline of bruce’s travels abroad, i’ve decided to figure out his degrees, what order he got them in, etc. the location of the institution does heavily correlate to the masters he trained under, how long he received a type of training, etc. i’ve been working on a headcanon about bruce’s fighting style to go along with this too, so i decided to combine them both. and, before you say anything – it is very unfeasible to have achieved the feat of having so many degrees in such a short span. yes, my muse is a mary sue – but just know that the manner in which bruce wayne weaponizes himself by becoming so damn perfect takes away his humanity, little by little.
not to mention the fact that getting so many damn degrees from such big name, aristocraticschools really only adds to bruce wayne’s elitist image – that he didn’t work hard. that he paid his way to get into the schools with a silver spoon in his mouth and a trust fund in his pocket. it’s the way the public looks at it – the way bruce wants them to.
1.) mathematics (with a concentration in business calculus) B.S. - princeton university in princeton, new jersey. upon graduating from brentwood at the early age of fifteen – with the help of various tutors outside of school – bruce takes the next step that makes sense. he’s accepted to princeton as a legacy student and enrolls in the undergraduate mathematics program. a concentration in business makes sense too. at the same time, giovanni zatara takes bruce under his tutelage upon the boy’s own request to teach him the art of the vanishing act. here, bruce befriends zatanna, giovanni’s daughter. the magic shop is located in gotham, so bruce spends much of his time between school, with giovanni, or at an apartment in old gotham. it takes him two years to complete his first degree in a very excelled program, and during this time he decides to depart from gotham.
2.) psychology B.S. - harvard university in cambridge, massachusetts. prior to moving to the boston area, bruce had always been athletic. never on a team, never playing a particular sport, but he privately kept in shape throughout his time in secondary school through weight-lifting and running. but, upon moving into a condo in cambridge and enrolling at the elite university, bruce immediately sets off to looking at boxing classes in southie. for those who aren’t familiar, south boston (dorchester, charleston, etc) is notorious for their irish population – and their boxing rings.
for two years, he trains at an underground club in southie while attending school. it helps refine his fighting beyond carnal instinct, helps clear his vision for the future. it’s his first timereally living outside of the bubble of gotham city, and in order to achieve his mission he had to keep going. graduating summa cum laude, the young scion made the choice to take his studies abroad. he takes the lessons learned in psychology with him for the rest of his life.
3.) mathematics M.S. - sorbonne university in paris, france. upon hearing of master manhunter, henri ducard, bruce approaches him for training. his first masters takes three years to complete, though much of his time is spent training under ducard and polishing up on the languages he didn’t learn through high school. he also takes jujitsu classes and immerses himself in the martial arts, mastering the art in little under a year. he feels ready and on the edge of something when he graduates with his masters as well as mastering ducard’s lessons to him over the years.
and, that’s when he takes his travels beyond the west.
4.) computer science ph.D - university of tokyo in tokyo, japan. bruce immerses himself in japanese culture while embracing the language. computer science is a methodically chosenarea of study – he knows the basics of coding but professional training is what he needs to set out on his mission properly with the rise of the internet and computers. he’s in his early twenties by now, fresh and young. he’s in prime shape in every possible way, though he trains under shihan matsuda for a little over a year in the art of ninjutsu. master matsuda is only one of his many trainers. by the time he’s done in japan a year later, bruce knows he’s ready to return to gotham but isn’t quite there yet.
a short year with monks in south africa – johannesburg in particular – helps him refine control over his body even more so – completely denying himself to find meaning in suffering. he’d never been exposed to buddhism before – and still isn’t a believer, as he’s a reform jew (born and raised). however, its lessons are probably the most important thing he’s learned from his travels abroad, if asked, and he still immerses himself in studies regarding buddhism.
bruce takes his travels to iraq, iran, and afghanistan. here, he trains under ra’s al ghul whilst training himself vigorously in areas such as chemistry. the training lasts the longest of any others – four years. of course, we all know bruce declines ra’s’ invitation to the league of assassins, spawning a years long grudge between them. his brief, torrid marriage to talia is cut short by this event as well – though they’d briefly rekindle their affair years later. under ra’s, he further learns ninjutsu, meditation, and completely learning the control of his own body.
upon returning to gotham, bruce doesn’t immediately set out in his crusade. he works at training his body further – strength training in particular – and building up his persona. it takes him almost a year upon being back from his travels to go on patrol for the very first time. even then, he’s still not entirely established – only experience and time builds his stamina, persona, and long list of allies.
by this point, bruce has formed a fighting style unique to himself, through all the lessons he’s learned from various masters but also from his own experiences teaching himself. his main influences in fighting style are, however:
he’s a brutal force of nature, refined and sharpened over the years as he became more and more skillful. he didn’t become gotham’s bogeyman overnight, after all.
I think I went a little overboard putting male Robin in a yukata
But I got the idea from an otome game I play bc I was admiring the kitsune mask of my fave chara (who also has white hair lol) which was my main insp for this and I was like…you know who else has a purple/gold color scheme and also has white hair? ROBIN.
Bonus: Robin’s a youkai or is the vessel of a demon spirit (like Grima lol)
Letter Never Sent, and What It Could Mean for Episode VIII
We have known that Letter Never Sent is an influence on Episode VIII for just shy of two years, ever since Rian Johnson mentioned the title (alongside Twelve O’Clock High) in an interview with Filmspotting. On Sunday, both films were mentioned again - alongside various others - at the Future Filmmakers panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe (where I got to yell out the words “space bear!” with pride). And given that the cinematic influences for Episode VIII are suddenly back in the spotlight, now feels like a great time to look more closely at Letter Never Sent (the only film of the bunch I have seen so far) and consider what the filmmakers could be taking from it.
To provide some context for this, here’s a synopsis:
The film follows four Soviet geologists who set out into the remotest reaches of Siberia on a mission to uncover diamonds. When the forces of nature turn against them, their mission becomes reduced to the simple matter of survival.
There are two distinct types of influences I think I could be extracted from Letter Never Sent, and while they overlap I think it’s worth separating them out into visual influences and thematic/narrative ones.
So, visual influences:
- Tight, gorgeous and intensely emotional close-ups on actors’ faces.
- Natural landscapes and weather conditions being used to mirror the characters’ internal struggles and emotions.
- Endless vistas being transformed by the camera, gaining an almost alien quality.
And thematic ones:
- Sacrifice, in many different forms (noble and ignoble).
- The hopelessness and futility of unrequited love.
- The triumph of a greater mission over individual needs or desires.
- Man being overpowered and overwhelmed by natural forces.
- A small group of characters being stranded by forces beyond their control, revealing their truest selves when placed amidst extreme conditions.
If you want to read extended thoughts on how these ideas are expressed in Letter Never Sent and how they may feed into Episode VIII, dive beneath the cut.

“I think my biggest struggle was also, oddly enough, my biggest motivation. As crazy as it might seem I had a ton of people tell me that I couldn’t do this. Or wouldn’t do it. And I’m grateful because it was that kind of "eff you” to them that gave me the motivation to be like ‘you know what? I’m gonna do it even bigger and better than I thought I could because you told me I couldn’t.’ So any time somebody says you can’t do something or rolls their eyes or whatever, don’t get upset. Just go 'alright, I’m awake now, dawg! Let’s go! I’m gonna go back to work or whatever it is you do.’ That’s an energy you can’t replace with anything else.”
