infant experience

Study finds black infants are dying at more than twice the rate of white infants

  • A new study using the data from a 2017 CDC report on infant mortality found that roughly 4,000 black children die each year due to the disparity in infant mortality between white and black infants.
  • The research, published in JAMA Pediatrics, concluded that “sustained progress in reducing infant mortality among black infants since 2005 has stalled in the past few years.”
  • According to the authors, no “single cause appears solely responsible for the recent increase in black infant mortality.”
  • Black infants are born pre-term at a 50% higher rate than white infants and experience an almost 400% rate of mortality due to “short gestation and low birthweight.” Read more (7/7/15)

Soul Age

You’re soul age does not correlate to the time that you have spent existing, but much rather the growth of your inner being through experiences, lessons, and achievements. It is the growth, evolution, and transmutation of your soul, and where it is on its journey that makes up your soul age. These traits, experiences, and lessons will still be marked upon, and will be reflected in your soul, and how you interact with the world around you. It does not make anyone better to be older, or younger in soul age, it just tells where you are specifically on your path right now. This might help you out by telling you what lessons you need to learn, and what you might need to focus on. Each soul age has its own lessons, and experiences that goes along with its own perspectives. These perspectives will allow them to see the world in their own way, but always does strive to allow them to evolve even farther from where they are at. With every incarnation we learn more as entities, and further the evolution of our soul, no matter what step we are on in the path, we will always grow. there are multiple Soul age stages that our souls will go through why learning, and growing. these are infant souls, baby souls, young souls, mature souls, old souls, and elder souls. Soul age stages are very unique from one another, and the traits of these ages can help us figure out what soul age we are apart of. These will also help us to develop empathy for other souls, and where they are at on their paths. Knowing this information will allow us to connect with ourselves, and our souls, so that we can better evolve as entities. So take this information, and learn, and remember that your soul is eternal.

Infant Soul :

Infant Souls also called newborn souls, and new souls are souls that are primarily focused on living their lives, and experiencing all life has to offer. Entities in this soul age stage will have a profound childlike wonder for the entire world, and will want to experience everything that they can get their hands on. They will be very innocent creatures that will have a lot to learn, and will usually constantly make mistakes on how the world works because they are not accustomed to it yet. Entities with an infant soul are usually a lot more playful, excitable, and free-spirited. Most of there troubles usually come for not being able to go out, and experience life. Infant souls are usually quite focused on survival, and raw instincts rather than anything else, which can get them into some pretty interesting situations. They do not know yet what is out there, and they are usually taught by other older souls. It is said that they are this way, because they are not yet accustomed to as many lessons, or experiences, and they have not gone out, and had to learn these lessons for themselves yet.

Baby Soul :

Baby Souls also called Child souls are souls that are primarily focused on belonging to groups, and communities that allow them to feel welcome. Entities in this soul age stage will usually follow all the rules they are given, so that they can fit into certain groups, where they believe they belong. They are followers that are just looking for what feels right to them, so that they can follow it, and learn more about this expansive world that they find themselves in. They are quite set on trying to find meaning, and order in the perceived chaotic world around them. They usually become very traditional, cultural, and religious also taking on a very conservative undertone to them in their pursuit of order. Their beliefs, and morals usually defined by their customs are what guide them to make certain decisions throughout their life. They are very disciplined, and believe in their very strong values to an absolute ’T’. these people usually always see that everyone as the same and usually gets put off when they act differently than they first expected. they like structure and staying to what they know.

Young Soul :

Young Souls also called teenage souls are souls that are primarily focused on being individuals, and progressing their own ambitions, and desire through anything they find to help them further their goals. They are very self-expressive, and can even be self-centered at times. They usually try to break away from the norm, so that they can be more innovative, and free willed. They want to go out, and experiment, and do what they want to do. They don’t want to be held down by anything, and because of this become very ambitious in pretty much everything that they do. Even though these entities seek Independence they also love to be in social groups that accept them as who they are, and allow them to express themselves on a more personal level. This type of soul age stage loves to change, and make new systems to advance how things work in the world. They can be chaotic at times but they are very profound, and intelligent when it comes to things that interest them, and can further their self purpose. They are quite prone to working as hard as they can, so that they can increase their standing in life through material, social, mental, and spiritual gain.

Mature Soul :

Mature Souls also called adult Souls are souls that are primarily focused on relationships, or communication between people while bringing harmony, peace, and love. These entities are very sensitive, and empathic to the entities around them. They are usually very interpersonal, self aware, and inquisitive of the world around them. Entities in the soul age stage love being in meaningful relationships with others around them, and strive for very personal, and meaningful connections among others. They are quite intelligent, and psychologically stable, holding such things as logic, and reason very high in the way they understand the world, because of all these things these entities can sometimes feel neurotic in nature. These types of souls are usually a lot more liberal than any of the other soul age stages. These souls want to learn how to impact the world in any way, so that they can make a difference, and leave their mark upon the world. They do care a lot about how the world around them sees them even though that they try be more different than the rest of the world. they like to keep up public appearances.

Old Soul :

Old Souls are souls that are primarily focused on spiritual, and philosophical fulfillment. Entities in this soul age stage are very wise, intelligent, and intuitive. They have a high profound spiritual awareness that allows them to interact, and communicate with the source of everything that is around them. They have experienced a lot, and know a lot of information even, if they do not know they know this information. They can see systems that other souls cannot. They usually become very uninterested with the world around them, because they have experienced it so many times before, and usually look for a more deeper meaning to unravel, and understand. They’re absolutely beautiful profound philosophers that seek to understand greater meanings, and understandings that are harder to come by. Old souls are usually very calm, kind, wise, and understanding individuals. These types of souls usually tried to find a larger perspective of life, and are usually very detached from everything else that happens to distract them from their goals, such as the material world. Sometimes they may even be seen as lazy to the other types of Souls, because of their laid-back attitude.

Elder Soul :

Elder Souls also called enlightened ones, and ascended spiritual masters are souls that have completed their journey, and have learned and experienced a lot. These are entities that have be come combined with their true spiritual higher selves, the energies of their soul, and everything around them. These entities are enlightened, and ascended above all previously stated consciousnesses. They are beings who have had time to analyze, and explore all facets of life, and experiences, and can insight many lessons, and and experiences that would give great profound meaning to all of existence.

On today’s episode of Facbook Pet Owners Piss Off the Dove-Mom: Part 2

I see SO much of this.

Absolutely EVERYWHERE!

Some one’s pet dove lays a soft, rubbery egg that pops under them like a rotten fruit.

The immediate response of some dumbass breeder or a pet owner parroting them: “Oh, that’s normal for young birds/new pairs.”

It is NOT normal for *young* birds to lay soft eggs!

It is normal for *SEVERELY CALCIUM DEFICIENT* birds! To lay soft eggs!!!

Guys, I have been breeding Ringneck doves for SIX YEARS!

That SHOULD make me an infant in relative experience… But it took me three goddamn months to surpass literally every breeder I asked in knowledge of BASIC PHYSIOLOGY AND BEHAVIOR

People who have been doing this for FUCKING DECADES!!! aught to know how their chosen species’ physiology works!

Not ONCE! Have I EVER!!! Gotten a soft egg out of a 5-6 month old hen!

In six years, I have raised HUNDREDS of hens!

I have kept back over 60 to breed from.

And let me repeat that I have never even SEEN a soft egg in person!

Y’know why?!

And I replace with fakes during hatch control.

Preventing calcium deficiency and complications like egg binding and skeletal deformity is just THAT easy!

Soft eggs are not normal for young birds! Fucking suppliment them!

Egg binding death is NOT normal for popular little parrots like ‘tiels and Budgies! PLEASE! REPLACE the eggs you toss with fakes, and *please*, I am BEGGING you! LET THE HENS SET, SO THEY CAN RECOVER!!!

Nobody does this shit to their birds on purpose!

As far as they know, it’s a crapshoot whether or not their bird will get stuck in a permanent production loop and die of egg binding!

They NEED to know that it can be prevented and how!

And that won’t fucking happen if all they hear is that it’s normal!

Sherlock Valentine’s Day Challenge Day #11

Thanks to @fireloom for her wonderful edit ^_^

Prompt day #11: “This is not what it looks like, I swear!”

This winter has been colder than the previous. The bees needs help to get through it. Therefore, Sherlock sits at the kitchen table with six different pots that contain six different mixes of sugar, glucose syrup, and water. He also decides to test the density of the fluid, observing how food dye spreads in it, red food dye, that is. So, here’s Sherlock with six bowls of red, liquid sugar -measuring density and concentration, when Nero begins to cry. Sherlock stands from his place and walks to the boy’s corral. Inside, supported by the corral, Nero is standing and crying.

“Why did your mother put you in jail this time?” Sherlock asks in mockery. They usually let Nero crawl and wander free around the house. “And speak of the devil… where is she?” A quick look around the room tells Sherlock he’s alone with Nero. “Did she say where she was going?” He asks Nero who has ceased in his crying. “I wasn’t paying attention, apparently…”

Nero babbles something and points to the fridge. Following his lead, Sherlock walks to the kitchen and finds a note on the fridge. ‘Yellow bottle at 4pm’. He shoots a look to the clock. Five minutes to four, perfect timing. Sherlock takes the bottle and heat it on the microwave. Once it seems hot enough, he checks the temperature and picks up Nero from his baby prison. Sherlock sits on the couch with Nero on his lap. The infant reclines on his father’s chest and spread his arms trying to reach for the bottle and hold it himself. With eager hunger, Nero drinks the milk as quickly as he can.

“More!” Claims Nero, one of the few words he can pronounce clearly enough.

“That’s enough, Nero.” Sherlock says and stands with his son on his arms to leave the bottle on the kitchen sink.

“So, what do you want to do now?” He and The Woman always talk to their son, even if Nero doesn’t understand everything they say. Mary taught him that. She always talked to Rosie, even against his many complaints that the baby couldn’t understand her. “She will, eventually. How do you expect her to recognize the words if you don’t talk to her?”

Mary proved to be right. With John constantly talking to Rosie and telling her bedtime stories, the child began to identify words and talk them at her eleventh month. Nero, began two months early.

Nero waves his arms in the direction of the red containers on the table. Reading his actions, Sherlock sits Nero over the table next to the red sugar fluids. With curious eyes and cautious moves, Nero dips his right hand in the red substance. The boy is fascinated. He pulls out his hand and repeat his action with the left. He explodes in laughter.

Next to him, sitting on a chair, Sherlock contemplates how the infant faces this new experience. It’s fascinating, like an experiment. Sherlock used to think babies were boring. They are actually, in the first four months, at least. With Rosie, he had the chance to observe how little ones surprise over new experiences, and insight into their own learning process. Now he was reliving the experience again with Nero. He likes it.

Sherlock is submersed in his thoughts when, without warning, Nero knocks over the container, spilling the red liquid on Sherlock, the table and himself. Instead of jumping to clean up, Sherlock takes a moment to contemplate the mess. Nero is fully covered in red-sugar-syrup, from his neck to his knees. His clothes are soaked and Sherlock is sure the liquid is trespassing the fabric. It’s also dripping off the edge of the table, and off himself… His white shirt has a big red stain and it extends to his hips and trousers. Nero can’t understand the mess he has created. That must be why he’s laughing and playing in the wet surface on the table without regard. Instead of nagging the infant, Sherlock chuckles and enjoys the view, recording the memory in a special place in his mind palace.

“Let’s take those clothes off.” Sherlock’s smile doesn’t fade as he begins to undress Nero. The chimney has been lit since this morning, the house is warm enough for Nero to wander nude for a while.

The exact moment Sherlock removes the last piece of clothing, Nero allows himself to fall into the red mess where he stands. This time Sherlock distresses Nero’s actions and tries to take him out of the sticky goo, but the infant fights back, only wanting to wallow.

Chuckling again, Sherlock pretends to fight with his son. That quickly leads to a tickle war. Nero twists and laughs uncontrollably, kicking and screaming, aswell as splashing red syrup everywhere. Sherlock also laughs, having the time of his life with his son. He doesn’t mind the sticky, sugary mess. He just keeps tickling and laughing. He only stops when Nero seems out of breath, the boy leans back and breath heavily, staring at the ceiling.

After the dramatic pause, Nero recovers his breath and gives Sherlock a wicked smile. “More!” Nero yells. With no second thought, Sherlock swiftly attacks again, receiving more laughs and a poor fight back. In a change of strategy, Sherlock blows raspberries on Nero’s belly. The boy is out of himself, tearing himself apart in laugher. His father gives him a rest, and again, Nero pronounces the words as he catches his breath. “More!”

By the third round, the boys are almost fully covered in red syrup, all sticky and sweet.

Another break for catching their breath stops the game. That’s when the front door bursts open and Irene Adler steps into the house. Sherlock looks at her with the broad smile the game has left him with. He greets her. Unlike what Sherlock expects, Irene’s expression is shock and distress. Sherlock frowns and the realisation hits him hard. The red-syrups looks awfully similar to blood. He is covered in red-syrup, all over his white shirt and, after the raspberries, also his face looks to be covered in….blood, and it’s dripping from the table to the floor, and how can he forget the small creature lying in the kitchen table, panting heavily, covered in the stuff.

“This is not what it looks like. I swear!

Mon-El of Daxam - Hero's Journey to Valor - Part 2

You can see in the link below from the April Chris Wood interview in the Sci Fi Magazine that the producers wanted to give Mon-El a complete hero arch and this is why he started selfish and shallow.

We also know that the Supergirl Writers know about The Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) steps as described by John Campbell (it is specifically mentioned in the last conversation that Kara and Cat have in season 2).

Mon-El is following all 17 steps through his journey to Valor. I’m explaining how he does meet them pointing to specific scenes in the episodes. I have divided this in 3 posts and this is Part 2. It’s a long LONG post.

Link to my previous post (Part 1) here

As I said in my previous post, Mon-El completed the first phase, INITIATION in 2x09 when he said that he wanted to be a superhero. And finished the second phase, SEPARATION, when he selflessly accepted his metaphorical death for the greater good achieving what he promised: that he would help Supergirl keep the world spinning.

He will enter the third phase, RETURN (which is very exciting and fits perfectly with the theory that he will spend some time in the future with the Legion of Superheroes) in Season 3.

In Part 3 I will also make guesses about how Mon-El could achieve the remaining steps of this journey during season 3 for his rise to Valor. Honestly, I can’t wait to the rise of Valor and the Karamel reunion.

Keep on reading after the break.

...but what about the borg baby? What happened to them? The one that was in borg utero. I need to know

YES. It was a baby girl and after being transported to Voyager, she was never heard from again. Unlike the Borglings, who get set up in the cargo bay bedroom with Seven, I think the baby could be raised by an adopted parent so I like to imagine she was handed off to someone off screen. But I mean, look at this:

I firmly believe there is a universe where Janeway raised her herself. In fact, long ago I wrote a (bad) fic based on Miracle on 34th Street in which the Borg Baby was Susan to Janeway’s Doris. As with the lizard babies, Janeway wouldn’t be raising her alone. Seven would have a vested interest as mentor to all the rescued borg. Neelix would fall over himself to help with the baby. Her oldest and best friend Tuvok has experience with infants. Chakotay and Tom and the Doctor have their own reasons to help out. Even B’Elanna would be like “you have a Captain’s assistant already, I’m gonna get this kid into engineering!” They’re a family and that baby would be the luckiest baby to have them.

:o CAN YOU TALK TO ME ABOUT THE BATFAMILY AND TRAUMA because it feels like this is a subject in which you have a great deal of knowledge

Okay, I could talk for hours about this, honestly. There are so many lettered disorders that fit the Batfamily (OCD, RAD, FAS, SPD, PTSD, ASD, plus bipolar, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc) and they can all be the RESULT of trauma or the result of innate brain structure. There’s so much that I’m actually tempted to write a few essays about it. But for the sake of answering the ask, I’ll hit a few major points and I am 100% open to questions/more specific asks.

Canon is a mess, obviously, but there are some things that either consistently track or show up regularly in fanon for each character. I think first we need to differentiate the kinds of trauma each character has experienced because both the type of and duration of the event and the age at which it’s experienced can make a difference.

Early relational trauma results from the fact that we are often given more to experience in this life than we can bear to experience consciously. This problem has been around since the beginning of time, but it is especially acute in early childhood where, because of the immaturity of the psyche and/or brain, we are ill-equipped to metabolize our experience. An infant or young child who is abused, violated or seriously neglected by a caretaking adult is overwhelmed by intolerable affects that are impossible for it to metabolize, much less understand or even think about.

About Killian Jones and the path he is on...

Just a friendly reminder in the face of all this Dark Hook nonsense circulating: A&E are still crafting Killian Jones’ ENTIRE ARC ON THE SHOW to perfectly fit the Hero’s Journey.

Not Villain Journey.

Just take a look at the point our Captain is at in the established steps of the famous Hero’s Journey (or monomyth):

The Road of Trials

The road of trials is a series of tests that the person must undergo to begin the transformation to hero. Often the person fails one or more of these tests, which often occur in threes.

Emma Swan inspired Killian to reject the darkness that he was living in as a villain and begin to reach for the light once more:

  • Enchanted Forest: first meeting, willing to help her while he achieves his own goals, she betrays him, he switches back to bad side. Fails this test.
  • Storybrooke: arrives with Cora as villain, eventually aligns again with heroes. Given opportunity to escape adn save himself with a bean, starts to, has change of heart, returns to help. Passes trial.
  • Neverland: freely volunteers to sail heroes to his personal purgatory in an effort to aid Emma, upon arriving faces temptations and demons of past. Stays on path, helps them save Henry and Return. Pass.
  • Separation/New York: When cursed back to EF and away from the woman he has growing feelings for, Killian breaks free from group to cross realms and find Emma, reuniting her to her loved ones to save them all. Passedddddddd.
  • Storybrooke: Killian remains steadfastly by Emma’s side, helping to fight a Wicked Witch, even as she pushes him away. Passed.
  • Enchanted Forest: Killian follows Emma through the time portal back to the EF, and helps her to save her family and herself while asking for nothing in return. After, Emma reveals she returns his growing feelings. PASS TEST WITH FLYING COLORS.

(I’m working broadly here but you get the picture)

Which leads us to:

The Meeting with the Goddess

This is the point when the person experiences a love that has the power and significance of the all-powerful, all encompassing, unconditional love that a fortunate infant may experience with his mother. This is a very important step in the process and is often represented by the person finding the other person that he or she loves most completely.

I don’t even really need to delve into this one too much, do I? I MEAN REALLY.

Captain Swan falls in love. Everything is groovy. Lots of kissing and fuck yes.

But then the Darkness starts creeping back in. Rumple targets Emma, which after a series of dramatic events, leads to her taking in the Darkness. He works to save her. More drama. Killian faces death. Emma loves him too completely to let him go, so she “saves” him by tethering him to the one thing he’s fought to overcome his entire Hero Journey…

Hello Darkness, my old friend.

Woman as Temptress

In this step, the hero faces those temptations, often of a physical or pleasurable nature, that may lead him to abandon or stray from his quest, which does not necessarily have to be represented by a woman. Woman is a metaphor for the temptations of life, since the hero-knight was often tempted by lust from his spiritual journey.

Blah blah blah, Killian retastes Dark Power, gets hella drunk, and goes on a bender. Temptations left and right: revenge, magic, sassy quips to enemies, more revenge. He has power now and it feels real good.

And this is where we currently are on the show.

So let’s look at what is next in a Hero’s Journey and see if it fits to spoilers and such we may know, shall we?

First up:

Atonement with the Father

In this step the person must confront and be initiated by whatever holds the ultimate power in his life. In many myths and stories this is the father, or a father figure who has life and death power. This is the center point of the journey. All the previous steps have been moving into this place, all that follow will move out from it. Although this step is most frequently symbolized by an encounter with a male entity, it does not have to be a male; just someone or thing with incredible power.

So Killian is going to have to decide what he ultimately wants most in life: revenge or love?

Ok. Cool. Much shock, definitely NO foreshadowing for that nope.

Oh, what’s that? His ACTUAL FATHER will also be appearing in the episode this week? HOW CONVENIENT.

*knowing look*

Now all the papa jazz leads to:

Apotheosis (Death)

When someone dies a physical death, or dies to the self to live in spirit, he moves beyond the pairs of opposites to a state of divine knowledge, love, compassion and bliss. A more mundane way of looking at this step is that it is a period of rest, peace and fulfillment before the hero begins the return.

Whoomp there it is. THE HERO MUST DIE.

This means he will be granted *drumroll*

The Ultimate Boon

The ultimate boon is the achievement of the goal of the quest. It is what the person went on the journey to get. All the previous steps serve to prepare and purify the person for this step, since in many myths the boon is something transcendent like the elixir of life itself, or a plant that supplies immortality, or the holy grail.

Killian will destroy the darkness and save Emma. He will get his revenge and save the love of his life. He will achieve his ultimate goals.

My personal feeling is then he will receive his “boon”, which I hope is confirmation of Emma being his True Love. (This would also kinda have a road of trials fit in the way of TLKs for them…they often come in threes and Captain Swan has two failed TLK tests. THIRD TIMES’S THE CHARM!)

So. There is is. Now given, the Hero’s Journey is wildly open to the author’s interpretation. Not all laid out steps must be used. But I just find it EXTREMELY fascinating just how perfectly our supposed Super Le Evil Captain Dark One’s story still aligns perfectly with it.

Hope that maybe helped you feel a little better? Maybe?

mlentertainmenti - Idk!! Um, the different types, like maybe elaborate on the previous post about species and colour schemes? Ugh they’re so pretty I can’t deal haha

Ooh okay! Sure! Brace yourself for some really old art haha :D

Seelie Court fairies - pixies, sprites, and nymphs

Pixies - smallest type of fairy. Disproportionately strong, hiveminded and travel in large swarms. Usually only visible as glowing blue specks, or blue clouds if swarming. Cute, but nasty biters.

Sprites - bigger, much less vicious. Particularly like riding birds, such as crows or pigeons. Similar hive behaviour to pixies.

Nymphs - blue-winged, blue-eyed fairies about the height of a twelve-year-old human child. Can have blue or green skin, and a wide range of hair colours.

Seelie Court fairies are known as ‘good’ fairies (although that kinda depends on who you ask). The ruler of the Seelie Court is the Sylph - distinguishable by large, orange/gold wings. Sylph are made, not chosen; there is only one Sylph at any time, and when a Sylph dies, her powers and memories are transferred to a random nymph, usually one close or related to her.
As such, Sylph have memories stretching back millennia.

‘Bad’ fairies, or Unseelie Court fairies, include goblins, wraiths, ghouls, spectres, and - more recently - vampires. What distinguishes them from other fairies is their need to feed on fear. As such, they are dark, creepy, and often deliberately scare or harm humans in order to feed; hence why they’re seen as ‘bad’.

Ghouls and spectres are pretty similar - insubstantial, smoke-like creatures that hang around unseen and feed off negative emotions. Can be the reason why you feel ‘off’, or why you shiver when you walk into certain rooms.

Goblins - human-sized and with more humanoid proportions, with lavender skin and smaller ears than nymphs. They don’t have eyebrows, possessing long antennae that start where eyebrows would. Their eyes are different colours (like heterochromia), and they have gold pupils. Gold speckles across their skin, like freckles. Hair+eye colour varies.
They don’t have a Sylph - rather, they have a monarchy system that requires a king and queen in partnership. Kings+queens are not necessarily married; brothers and sisters commonly take the throne together. The main aspect is partnership and collaboration between the two individuals, to ensure fair decisions and leadership.
They have magical abilities like nymphs, but unlike nymphs - who have generalised magic power - goblins each have a specific personal ability, such as time-travel, healing powers, mind-reading etc.

Wraiths - created by pure accident. The first wraith is a creature known as Thorax, or the Green Lady (Queen Mother to wraiths).
She has the ability to create more wraiths like herself, of wildly varying shapes and forms, limited only by her imagination. Like her, they feed on fear, and they are all connected to her, each wraith containing a piece of her soul.
They are the source of common monster legends and ghost stories, such as Slenderman and the Bogeyman.
Thorax holds leadership over the entire Unseelie Court, ruling along with the goblin king+queen.

Vampires - an accident caused by nymphs who sought to study humans by swapping genetically-modified fairy infants for human infants, raising them within the fairy world.
Human physiology does not agree with the fairy environment, and nymph food is particularly poisonous to them, causing physical corruption. If the human children had been kept in the fairy world, they would have died. A side-effect of their corruption is the need to consume blood to survive.
They don’t feed on fear, but were allowed to join the Unseelie Court on account of their ability to create fear in humans - very useful for the Unseelie Court denizens who feed on such fear.

Other Creatures (not part of either Court) - changelings, Sky, valkyries, dryads

Changelings - the fairy infants swapped for human infants during the experiments that caused vampirism.
They were genetically modified to appear humanoid, though they’re distinguishable by their stark blue eyes and pointed ears. Did not survive well in the human world, as many common things like iron, salt, garlic, and holy water are toxic to them. Most of them lived out short lives of pain and suffering, not surviving til adulthood.

Sky - a living black hole, who gained sentience and found her way to the fairy world while exploring her galaxy. She decided to settle there, fascinated by the life there.
Has godlike powers, and is often worshipped as a goddess by fairies who believe she created them in her image. It’s the other way around - her physical appearance is inspired by the fairies she encountered when she arrived.
Secretly collects souls and encases them in glass orbs in a huge garden she has created for the purpose of providing an afterlife for fairies. Fairies are not typically aware of this.
The concept of death horrified her from the moment she arrived, and after an unfortunate accident in attempted resurrection (resulting in Thorax), she decided to instead collect souls after fairies died so she could at least provide the afterlife many fairies believe in.
She created the valkyries in order to help her collect souls for the garden.

Valkyries - strange, Frankenstein-esque mishmashes of various creatures that were created to help Sky collect souls.
They all have varying appearances, but share wings, horns/antennae, and stark blue eyes (like Sky’s).
All wear white (the fairy mourning colour) and carry thuribles to attract and collect souls. Often seen at funerals and crime scenes.
Treated with contempt and disgust; seen as little better than flies and graveworms, just more scavengers at the scene of death. Their connection to Sky is not commonly known; ironic as Sky is worshipped, while her valkyries are scorned.

Dryads - in the fairy world, trees are sentient. Young trees have power of movement, and these saplings are commonly seen in forests, exploring and breeding before their movements can become hampered by bark and permanent root growth.
Once their skin hardens and roots form, they slowly become more and more immobile, eventually settling in place and growing still. At this stage, they are still aware, and communicate with one another via telepathy. Forests are giant interconnected communities.

A Year Every Minute Pt. 6

A story centered around the lives of Gaster, Sans, and Papyrus from beginning to end. Themes will be both happy and tragic.

Life settled into a new routine. Gaster wasn’t the best father in the world but he could at least keep a baby alive and fed… for the most part. He still hadn’t named it, fearing that doing so would make him too attached. He already caught himself talking to it on a daily basis and couldn’t seem to stop himself from doing so.

Nevertheless, the experiments went on.

So, a person I went to school with, who has lost two of her children posted this, and I would really like to participate. Honestly, I don’t believe women who experience infant and pregnancy loss get to experience full healing because they seem to be dismissed by society. It has even been suggested to not announce pregnancies until you are out of the “possible early miscarriage” stage of pregnancy. A life lost is still a life lost.

I have a few friends who have also experienced the death of their children, and I would really like to show them we recognize and grieve with them, for the loss of their child. I want them t know that their suffering and their grief is just as valid as any other, they are not pushed aside as society believes it should be. If you would be so kind to light a candle at this time in your area, and tag me, I would love to create a master post to share with them. If you could include your time zone that would be great.

Thank you friends!

  • shikadai and sarada are twin siblings - shikamaru and sasuke had a brief fling at some point after the war (it was a mistake and also very bad sex for both of them) and this is the result
  • since sasuke pulled that whole ‘travel the world’ thing (and really he didn’t want to stay in the leaf for long anyway; that place still has his clan’s blood on its hands) shikamaru raised both sarada and shikadai on his own for a time
  • he was the worst person to be a single parent you can imagine
  • the slow horrific realization that this is his life for the next several years the first time he was woken up in the middle of the night by a baby crying ranks in his top three worst moments of his life
  • despite the fact that he was not in any way equipped to raise these children himself and didn’t have any experience with infants he really did try his best to take care of his kids even if he ended up passing out during a mission from exhaustion once after pulling two all-nighters reading books on parenting
  • sakura sees him around the hokage office a lot given their respective high ranks and she offers to help him with his kids after talking to him about them
  • she starts babysitting the kids so that shikamaru can fully resume his duties as jonin commander and go on longer diplomatic assignments and she sometimes takes them over to her house to spend the nights there when shikamaru’s away for a while
  • shikamaru eventually has to admit that he’s really not cut out to care for two children on his own; he’s barely got the skill and experience to care for one kid
  • when shikadai and sarada are about three years old, shikamaru and sakura start seriously talking about her adopting sarada - shikamaru decided a while back that if he had to give up one of his kids he’d keep shikadai, since he’s the only one of the two to inherit his clan jutsu
  • it takes a while to work out and it’s kind of an awkward transition between parents but sakura officially becomes sarada’s mother around eight months after shikamaru originally asked her about her adopting one of his children
  • sakura is a fantastic mother and shikamaru does a lot better as a father with only one kid to keep an eye on and they both meet up pretty often so that shikadai and sarada can still have their sibling bond

Because when the girls all said “Not I” on this one something about it made me think. Just 250ish words of hurt. And because nobody mentioned the nursery.

He was the first to admit his experience of infants was limited. Beyond Emma’s young brother, his contact had been minimal at best - a hook for hand seemed to give even the most lax of mothers pause before thrusting their mewling bundle towards him.

And yet even to one so inexperienced, a cradle and its accompaniments seemed out of place in the living room of this house - Emma’s house, he supposed, despite its Underworld location.

He fought the urge to say ‘our’ house, no desire to relive the pain he had wrought in this very room, the hurtful words and angry outbursts that would ever serve as a reminder of his failure.

For he had no doubt he had failed her - failed his Swan, unable to be a man with the character she deserved. Failed the memory of a brother who had showed him what it meant to be a man of honour. Failed the future this house should represent.

He paused, eyes roaming across the childish playthings scattered throughout the room. Damn the dark bastard for knowing him so well, his physical suffering at Hades’ hand of little consequence when compared to the pain of seeing a life he would never - could never - have laid out before him.

A life where there was home and family and her.

Her voice roused him. “Come and let me look at you,” she said, the lightness in her voice and the soft smile on her lips a reminder.

This was not to be his life now. But it could still be hers.
