I’m sorta sorry. In order it goes Logan (Logic), Anxiety, Patton (Morality), and Roman (Prince). I thought about flat coloring but… I like the lines. Going off of other tumblr posts about humans being survivor space orcs and humans being loving frienddog pet buddies to other alien ships, what if the ability to attach to things was a trait of earth critters.

As long as a behaviour helps achieve the same end, evolution doesn’t care what the behaviour is. So you get both bats and birds with entirely different structures, methods, and styles to flight for different niche purposes (long distance vs. nimble acrobatics) but they both succeed at flying. The same can happen for social structures and space travel.

For most other life in the universe, social bonding isn’t a thing. You get people that you get well along with or don’t. Property isn’t necessary if it doesn’t have a function, people don’t get attached to objects. People strive to increase their station/power and therefore overall happiness, whatever that means to them, which is what encourages a group of them to work together for efficiency and shared earnings. (For example, that is. There are lots of things that could encourage life to reach spaceflight. Like spite. Or blind chance.)

On earth a few animals have evolved favoritism behaviour. Getting attached to objects, other animals, and ideas for no reason other than they like them. This helps ensure the survival of a group, so it encourages repetition. Humans are the only spacefaring creature that has favourite ROCKS because of this. Imagine having a favourite pebble out of the entire universe full of mineable minerals!

It’s just common sense that if you want to survive, add a human to your crew. Because of the space orc endurance toughness thing, being able to survive things others can’t, and being determined to keep going. Combine that with the happy space dog thing where, essentially, you put a Kirk in with a hundred Spocks. The dog Kirk is the one who’s always happy to explore and meet people and make friends and likes everyone. So if you have a being who enjoys your presence for no material reward AND extends their instincts for survival to things they’ve bonded on, you’ve basically got a big bodyguard for your entire crew. For free. You don’t have to pay it. You just have to say ‘thank you’ when it gifts you useless trinkets it found or made.

So you get these ships, and you can always tell which room is the human’s room. It’s the one full of hoarded junk. There’s sheets and dry film stuck to the walls that it ensures you is coded with dyes to make a message. The message isn’t really important, just nice. The human likes it. The human collects lumps of polycarbons that it tells you represent icons of aesthetic and memory. You don’t understand, because your memory works just fine without a visual reminder, but you learn that apparently there are different kinds of lumps and they mean different things.

The human has clothes it prefers when all its body coverings function about the same. It has days it prefers. It has abstract concepts it prefers. It has noise it prefers, and carries the noise around with it.

How would that affect a creature that prefers nothing? A species that constantly strives for a better station would have ambitions and goals for being transported to higher ranks on better ships. Logically, it would also prefer the smartest, strongest, nicest humans to protect their investments. A creature like that would check the stats on available and working humans for hire and want the best one they can afford.

But if you asked a crew which human they would want to work with? If you give them enough time, they’ll start saying their own.
“But isn’t the one on ship 4-aNui 0.93s faster at achieving the emergency fire plan escape?”
“Yes, but ours likes us more and would be more efficient at helping us, specifically.”
“That’s what humans do. They’ll like anyone they’re introduced to.”
“Yes, but ours likes us.”
“The better one will like you too if you give it enough time. I thought you knew this?”
“But I like it.”

Filthy Frank TV Lore Masterpost

I just wanted to take some time out (actually i’m bored) to fully explain the whole ~Filthy Frank~ lore, or at least, the “main” characters and how they weave in and out of the show.

Because, let’s be real, George didn’t even know what the hell was going on for the first two years and the Wikia is a mess.

Magical Uses For Mint

I know I say it probably way too many times, but to me, Mint is the Salt of the herb world.
Here are some of my fave things to do with it!

  • Make Mint Tea! Get a tea strainer or a small sachet bag and chop up some Mint into them. Swirl that baby around in hot, not boiling, water and add sugar if you want! This drink can be made magical by adding intent to it such as wanting protection throughout the day, or to bring luck to you!
  • T H E B A T H. (Fuck, i’m not over that meme) You can add mint to your bath to attract beauty and luck to yourself. I find Mint works well with Roses in a bath!
  • Mint Protection Jar! Find some Mint, add them leaves to a jar, fill it with some rain water or sea water and bam! Basic Protection jar! You can add other herbs or sigils to it to increase it’s power, if you want.
  • Mint plants are so easy to grow and propagate, i want 10 of them.
  • Personal Growth Spell. Find a Mint plant, get a small piece of paper and hang it off a sturdy part of the plant, ask the plant if it will let you grow with it.
  • Mint can be used in break up spells for couples that need a fresh start.
  • Some negative entities hate the smell of fresh mint.
  • Remember that Mint Tea? Add it to your mop bucket and get mopping! That Mint will cleanse your home and make it smell nice.
  • Carry a few Mint leaves in your pocket or wallet to bring good luck and prosperity.
  • Tip that my nan taught me. Hang Mint leaves over a doorway to prevent arguments.
  • Mint leaves under a pillow are said to bring prophetic dreams.
  • Mint can be used in healing spells!

There is a bittersweet longing in Aloha ‘Oe (Farewell to Thee). It was written by Queen Lili'uokalani of Hawaii in 1877, after seeing the farewell embrace between an American colonel and his Hawaiian girlfriend. Sixteen years later, Queen Lili'uokalani was deposed by American pineapple and sugar magnates, with assistance from the U.S. Navy. She was not a bad ruler. She just had the audacity to push back against the increasing power of the U.S. companies and draft a new constitution which would give more rights to Hawaiians who were, well, from Hawaii. This was unacceptable.

Hawaii became a “republic” controlled by the United States, and then they stopped pretending and just made it a territory. Queen Lili'uokalani never abdicated. She was placed under house arrest for five years, during which time she wrote her autobiography and a songbook’s worth of music in Hawaiian.

Of all the reasons that people give for why Yellow Diamond was the one that shattered Pink Diamond, possibly the most absurd one has to be that she did it to increase her own power and control over Homeworld  and so she could increase the number of planets she personally had.

Because, seriously, has Yellow Diamond ever been shown to crave power at all?  To want more gems and planets under her control? If that were true she would have taken Earth as her own. But she doesn’t. She wants to destroy the Earth; to put the pain it represents behind her.

And her actions towards Blue Diamond also show that she has no desire to increase her own personal power at the expense of others. Blue had been neglecting her duties because she was so busy mourning Pink Diamond. And Yellow could have easily taken over the planets and gems had. Even if she still kept them technically under Blue’s domain, with them continuing to wear Blue’s colors and all, she could have easily taken control. After all, the Diamonds are all seen as perfect, infallible leaders. If you’re a Blue Diamond gem, and Yellow Diamond appears and says, “Do this”, are you going to disobey her because she’s the wrong Diamond? Of course not.

Instead, Yellow goes to Blue to convince her that she has to go back to being a leader, to being what Homeworld expects of her. There is no attempt to take over Blue Diamond’s power and authority. Rather, there is an attempt to have Blue Diamond take her own power and authority back.

Honestly, that whole idea seems to based on there must be a bad guy mentality, and that “bad guy” must do typical bad guy things. And what’s a more typical bad guy thing than killing for power? It’s positively cliche.  But Steven Universe (the show) has never done cliche bad guys doing cliche bad guy things, and I can’t see it starting now.

Herbalism

FOREWARNING: SOME PLANTS ARE POISONOUS AND NOT SAFE FOR INGESTION OF ANY  FORM. IF YOU ARE UNSURE IF ITS SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE CONSUME. ALL KNOWN UNSAFE FOR CONSUMPTION HERBS IN HE LIST WILL BE MARKED WITH ***.

Herbs have enormous magical power, as they hold the earth’s energy within them. Each herb has unique properties that can enhance one’s magical goals. Herbs also may have medicinal properties. The magical practitioner can draw upon either aspect when performing a spell.

The most common ways herbs are used in magic are:

Charms and sachets - Fill a small bag with herbs to make a charm or sachet. You can carry the charm with you, hang it in the house or car, or bury or burn it, depending on the purpose, and the spell you are performing.

Incense- Herbs can be burned as a ritual incense, such as the sage smudge used to clear negative vibrations from a space.

Bath - Make a sachet or bath bomb and place it in your ritual or healing bath. Fragrant herbs like lavender make a very relaxing bath, and you can use certain herbs to alleviate skin and other conditions, such as using eucalyptus in a bath when you have a cold or flu.

Oils - Place herbs in an oil, let them steep for a few days, then strain. You can make annointing oils for you ritual work, beauty oils for your hair, skin and nails (try coconut or jojoba), or flavor oils for cooking and seasoning, such as steeping rosemary in olive oil.

Teas- Use herbs to make teas for healing illness. Some herbs can be used to mildly alter consciousness. Many herbal teas have health benefits and can help treat minor ailments.

Smoking- You can make herbal smoking mixtures which will also facilitate altered states of consciousness.

In spellwork, herbs can be sprinkled or placed around or within boundaries (such as your home, altar, or magic circle) to define a “territory” for your magic to work. Of course, you can always use flavorful herbs in cooking and seasoning your food. There are many healthful benefits, and they taste great! Always give all plant life respect, where ever you are- remember, the word “weed” is simply a value judgement! Dandelion, for instance, has many, many healing and nutritional qualities which are extremely beneficial not only to the wildlife which feeds on it, but to you, too! Learn to recognize the herbs around you- even in a city, there are many wonderful herbs growing wild, which you can gather and use.

Harvest herbs in the morning after the sun has dried the dew but before the heat of the day sets in. Use a sharp magical knife (a bolline) to cut herbs; the knife should be consecrated specifically for this purpose. Thank the plant for its gift, and offer it something in return, perhaps some water, organic fertilizer or mulch. Harvest only the amount of herbs needed, except when pruning the plants, to ensure healthy growth for the following season.

The most prevalent ingredients of magic spells are processed botanicals, especially dried plants, herbs and oils. Drying plants preserves them for extended use, allowing you to work with plants out of season and with those that are cannot be grown in your region.

Dried botanical frequently are sold already chopped, cut or powdered. As these actions usually need to be done before spell casting, purchasing botanical that are ready to be used can save time and effort. There is nothing wrong with buying your herbs. Leaves and blossoms, even chopped often retain their characteristics, such as aroma, and so are easily distinguishable. You are unlikely to confuse rose with peppermint or hibiscus!

If you grow plants or have access to fresh ones, it is quite easy to dry them yourself. Hang botanical upside down in small bunches. Don’t overcrowd them - you want air to circulate. Allow the botanical to hang in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight until dry.
