in-your-garden

anonymous asked:

I just wanted to say bless your Pidge's Garden AU! I do have a question, if you don't mind, do the lions ever act up, like the over grown mother hens they are? Besides Green being a scarecrow.

I imagine the Lions are tense whenever their Paladins have to deal with the Earth governments/space people.

Iverson: That thing won’t bite me, will it?
Pidge: *smug face* She might.
Green: *looms menacingly*

Otherwise, I haven’t really thought about it. I’d say they could be cute and play fight with each other like real lions do, but I can see that being a problem, considering their size…

Green and Red: *rolling around and snarling at each other*
Black: *annoyed roaring*
Pidge: *sticks her head out the window* HEY. KNOCK IT OFF. YOU WANT THE NEIGHBORS THINKING WE’RE HAVING ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE?
Red:
Green:
Red: *bites Green’s neck*
Black: *ROAR*
Pidge: KEITH, GET YOUR LION UNDER CONTROL
Keith: GREEN STARTED IT

Friendship is a garden that you plant together. Some gardens are more hardy and need less tending. Some are new and need constant care and attendance. If both parties work on the garden together, you can reap the bounty of your work. But if one party does most of the tending, the weeds of resentment will start to grow. If no one tends to the garden the garden will die out but if you try to give it too much attention, you risk the same outcome. Frienship is a garden. How well does your garden grow?

5 things to remind yourself everyday:
  • if you think someone looks pretty or extra nice today, tell them. some times, some people need a little bit of confidence boost or some cheering up to continue going on with their days!
  • there is no harm in saying no if you believe that the situation is becoming too uncomfortable. you are not obliged to say yes! and you have the right to only do things that you believe is safe for your mental health and well being.
  • stop interchanging sorry and thank you. instead of apologizing to someone for being late, say thank you for their patience to wait for you! there is a thin line between being grateful and feeling sorry and once you’ve learned how it works, you will become a better communicator and a better person in general.
  • always make an effort to be kinder in everything that you do! kindness is a choice and living your life in a much kinder way will make you feel more content. of course being kind does not necessarily only mean being kind to other people, it also means being kind to yourself.
  • instead of focusing on the whole picture itself, try to appreciate the tiny beautiful details about your everyday life. see how the sky changes its colors every now and then? appreciate it. observe how your streets are copper-colored because of fallen leaves. inhale the blossoms of your spring garden.
🌱Green Witch Tips🌱

I get a lot of asks about plants; what dried herbs to start with, what kind are good for beginners, what I would recommend new witches own, how to grow them, etc. That’s totally okay because you guys know I love helping you out but to make things easier I’m just going to talk about plants for a while, okay? Enjoy!

Let’s Start At The Beginning🌿

“What should a beginner witch have in their cabinet?”

I get asked a lot what are some good herbs or dried flowers to have for people who can’t grow their own. Just remember, it’s not necessary to have herbs in your practice, all you need to be a witch is a desire to be a witch! But these are the herbs I recommend and/or are my personal favorites.💜

  • Orange Peel - This is great for uplifting energies and bringing happiness into your life, they can help with intuition, bring prosperity and abundance, and they can help strengthen friendships and relationships. They’re loaded with Vitamin C & A, it’s a powerful antioxidant and great for relieving congestion(add it to your bath!) You can eat them, burn them, make a tea, add it to your bath, whatever you see fit!
  • Basil - This is great for bringing in money and prosperity, love, flying/astral work, exorcisms, and is great for protection. Basil has potent antioxidant, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties. It is also an anti-inflammatory.
  • Mint - Mint is probably one of my favorite healing herbs, it can help bring you strength, luck, money, and safe travels. Mint is an anti-inflammatory and an antiseptic. Ideal for treating indigestion, flatulence, varicose veins, headaches, migraines, skin irritations, rheumatism, toothache, and general fatigue.
  • Chamomile - One of my favorite meditation plants, it also aids in centering and finding peace, protection, self-love and healing! It’s great for fevers, indigestion, it works as an anti-inflammatory for wounds, and makes a good insect repellent.
  • Rosemary: It’s often used for protection, love, purification, healing, sleep, and youth. When burned it emits powerful cleansing and purifying vibrations and is used to rid a place of negativity. It provides anti-inflammation, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antisepticproperties. And research provides ample evidence that rosemary not only improves memory, but helps fight cancer.
  • Onion: It is used for protection, exorcism, healing, money, and abundance in life. Grown in pots or in the garden they repel negative energy and evil intentions. You can cook onions to attract money and luck. Onions are high in vitamin C, a good source of fiber, and are good for regulating blood pressure.
  • Thyme: It can be used for good health, healing, sleep, courage, love, purification, psychic powers. It can be burned for good health and purification and can be used in healing spells. It can be used to help bronchitis, whooping cough, sore throat, colic, arthritis, upset stomach, stomach pain (gastritis), diarrhea, bedwetting, intestinal gas (flatulence), parasitic worm infections and skin disorders.

Growing Your Own Indoor Plants 🌿

These are what I recommend for beginners(inside) I tried to include a variety of herbs, succulents, and houseplants because I know some people prefer one of the other. This includes generic care tips like storage needed, how much light, water, etc. If you’re looking for magical plant care tips scroll down to the next category! All plants picked are cat and dog friendly.

  • Spider Plants - absorb negativity while improving both the energy and air quality of your home. They’re great for low-key daily cleansing. The pot does not need drainage, moderate sunlight, during growth water once or so a week, at adult(one year) water more frequently, during the summer do not let the soil dry out, keep it moist! Generic garden soil is fine.
  • African Violets - ruled by the planet Venus, promoting spirituality and peaceful vibrations. Their five-petaled flowers are protective and link the plant with the pentagram. Keep them in a warm location where they get plenty of light, and these darling little plants will happily bloom for you all year round. They’re roots are very fragile so over watering can definitely kill them, make sure the soil is completely dry to touch before water. They do best with soils that include peat moss or vermiculite.
  • Succulents - bringers of love and abundance and can be among the easiest of house plants to grow.  Succulents are ruled by the moon. Succulents definitely need plots that have drainage holes, the soil should be a mix of rocks and soil or just buy premade cacti soil! Water two to three times a month depending on size. Full sunlight is best!
  • Swedish or English Ivy -  are protective as well as decorative, and never more so than when trained to grow outside on house walls. Potted and brought indoors, they serve the same function, for their curious stems and leaves drive away evil and negativity from their dwelling place. They are also though to promote fidelity and fertility. Medium light, simple garden soil, they do like moss, ivy’s prefer to be on the dry side when the soil has been dry for 2-3 days then water!
  • Catnip - can bring love into the home, works for cat magic or dieties, helps promote happiness and aids in sleep/astral travel magic. It can be successfully grown on a sunny windowsill, providing you give it enough water and remember to pinch out the flowers to encourage leaf growth. You can start pinching off leaves as soon as the plant hits about 6 - 8 inches.
  • Basil - it can help steady the mind, brings happiness, love, peace, and money and protects against insanity. Keep basil in direct or medium sunlight, keep soil moist, make sure to pick the leaves regularly to encourage growth throughout the summer.
  • Lemon Balm - associated with the moon and neptune, can be used to dispel melancholy and depression, it is traditionally used for compassion, fertility, happiness, healing, longevity, love, mental health, prosperity, and divination. Lemon balm likes a steady supply of water, but good drainage is a must. The plant recovers quickly from wilt, so it’s best to err on the side of dry rather than too wet, which will encourage root rot. Any good, fast-draining potting soil will likely do.
  • Thyme(a personal favorite) - planet venus, it’s good for clairvoyance, cleansing, courage, divination, dreams, exorcism, faeries, happiness, healing, love, money, prevents nightmares, protection, psychic development, aannnddd purification. It’s a pretty useful little plant and it’s super cute if you ask me! Water completely each time but allow the pot to dry before watering again. Fertilize thyme with a weak solution of fish emulsion or liquid seaweed once a month - I swear by it! Trim off flowers and dry them for a sachet or use them in tea, bath, etc!
  • Rosemary -  It’s often used for protection, love, purification, healing, sleep, and youth. When burned it emits powerful cleansing and purifying vibrations and is used to rid a place of negativity. Same grow tips as thyme!
  • Orchid -  it can be used for elegance and beauty, concentration, strengthening memory, love, intuition, harmony, focus, and will power. I personally love having my orchids around during self love magic and glamour spells. It needs ample water but should be allowed to dry out some between watering - make sure to not over water it. Some orchids can be air plants!

Magical Tips For Growing Plants🌿

Just some tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years, some of these may not be super witchy but still definitely helpful for strong plant babies!

  • Sing or talk to your plants daily! Not only will the positive energy they receive help them grow strong, so will the more direct source of Carbon Dioxide. 💕
  • Use rain water or moon water to water your plants! You can really use any kind of water but I advise against sea water unless you boil the salt out first.
    • Bonus! Charge your water with crystals. I like to leave mine out under the moon with moss agate, clear quartz, and rose quartz to encourage growth into a strong, beautiful plant.
  • If you smoke weed, ashes are lovely to give to plants once a week, most ashes work to be honest. You can also use left over tea leaves to compost as well, you can infuse/encourage your plants with energies of the tea!
  • You can also include eggshell powder or water from when you boil eggs in your waterings once a week to help aid it’s growth.
    • I wouldn’t suggest feeding them plant food until their adults though just because it’s really simple to over feed them. But it’s okay to throw some eggshells in the beginning.
  • Sigils! Put sigils on everything, your watering can, the containers your plants are in, on the window they receive their sunlight from! Have fun, gardening is a great time to explore yourself and your craft.
  • Leave your plants under the moon to let the charge. Or when they’re in the sun let that charge them to bring energy and happiness into your home and life.
  • Leave crystals next to your plants or create little spell jar to keep in your garden. I have one of citrine, clear quartz, bay, oak, and a little love letter to Freyr because he’s my patron god and a god of nature.
  • This may sound weird but I swear my little green guys love jivin’ to music, play some and dance around with them, let them be lively and included in your life. We’ve been listening to a lot of Janis Joplin lately.
  • If your plant indoors you don’t have worms!! Oh no! Poke little holes in your soil (after their healthy sprouts) to make sure the soil isn’t compacted.
  • Understand how much space your plants are going to need.  It’s a common mistake for gardeners to get too small of pots. Research the type of roots your plants have - not all grow down some grow wide and need wider more shallow pots.
  • Look for the best place in the house for each plant, and don’t be afraid to try different locations until you find the best spot. Some plants are picky and that’s a-okay!

I hope this is able to help someone with their little green babies. Gardening can bring such joy to ones life, I hope it can for you!🌿

little things that can help you if you have bpd

i’ve been seeing a lot of topics like “how to deal with someone who has bpd” and it always bothers me, because there is basically no topics about how to deal if YOU have bpd. that’s why i’m making this post, in my opinion as someone who has bpd. feel free to leave other tips and comment!

  • buy a notepad and write about your emotions. in DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), used a lot to help people with BPD, they tend to help others to regulate their emotions, basing on some principles, like:
  1. identify and classify emotions; usually, people with BPD suffered/suffer from emotional abuse and it makes harder for us to have a knowledge about our feelings, since we never had someone to help us in this aspect. if you have hard times dealing with your emotions, you can create a special organization on your notepad, basing on: what just happened that could be a possibly trigger to your feeling? (EVEN IF IT’S SOMETHING MINOR, for example, if your friend replied to you in a different way, if you saw an image that made you feel uncomfortable); what are your physical symptoms about it? (for example, if you feel butterflies in your stomach, you are possibly anxious); what does this feeling make you want to do? (for example, if you feel like you want to hit something, you are possibly experiencing anger). and, also, try to identify your primary and secondary emotions, for example, if a friend forgets about an event that you would go together, first you may feel anger, but this anger can be followed by frustation or sadness (secondary emotions).
  2. how to “change” your emotions; after writing about your emotions and trying to learn about them, you can add a subject in your notepad about “WHAT CAN I DO TO CHANGE THIS FEELING”. your first thoughts may be pessimists, specially because borderlines are VERY impulsives, like “i should probably self-harm” or even “i should probably kill myself”, due to the intensity of bpd emotions, but right now, you have to think with your rationality. for example, if your friend is delaying to reply, you can think about the possibilities that are causing this problem: if they are busy, if they are having a hard time or if they just don’t want to talk right now. after thinking about the situation as a whole, you’ll ask yourself “okay, but what will i do?” and that’s why i think it’s important to create a list about what makes you happy and what distracts you, so everytime you have a hard situation to deal with, you can check on your list. “oh, i’m having x problem, but in my list it says that painting makes me happy, so what about painting something i saw today?”. if you don’t have anything that you like about, there is an app called Calm Harm, that can help you in self-harm situations!
  3. increase and improve positive emotional events; i know that it’s difficult for us to focus on positive moments, but once you are feeling down, please try to write about what happened in your day that was a good thing. and when i say it, i don’t mean a BIG thing, it can be something like seeing a flower in your garden. write about your sensations when your experienced this moment and think about the possibility of living this moment more than once. for example, if i saw a flower and it made me happy, can i try to plant one, so i’ll see it more often?
  4. apply pressure tolerance techniques; by distraction, self-care, improving the moment and considering pros and cons.

SO, in your notepad, have a space to: first, identify and classify your emotions; second, a space to write about how to change your emotions; third, a space to write about positive emotional events and fourth, write about what pressure tolerance techniqures you can apply to your life.

  • practice saying no and saying what you need to the people around you; sometimes people with BPD tend to think that we are a burden to friends and family, and sometimes it’s not true. due to it, we often don’t tell what we really want. so, if you could, please, practice saying NO and what you REALLY need and want to people around you, even if it’s minor things. for example, if someone asks you to lunch with them, but you can’t/don’t want to, don’t let your abandonment fear decides what it’s the best for you, just say no, but not in the intention to hurt the other person. “i’m sorry, i really like you, but i can’t or don’t want to, since i have to do x thing/feeling x thing, but i really like you!”. when you say no, you can have a better idea about what you like and what you don’t, so you can start to let people know about it. for example, “hey! yesterday i said no when you invited me for lunch, so i realized i don’t really like going to public places, what about having lunch in my house next time?”
  • practice breathing techniques; intense emotions can lead us to panic situations or really bad physical symptoms. in stressing moments, we hold the air, increasing the level of carbon dioxide in our system, so the organism thinks we need more oxygen and make us breathe faster. the imbalance increases our heart beats, our blood pressure and the release of hormones such as adrenaline. i recommend ASMR videos to relax and you can breathe slowly, imagining a circle opening and closing, like the gif:

the post is getting long, so i’ll finish here! i’ll probably post a part two if you guys like! please leave a comment if it was helpful and i’m sorry if my grammar wasn’t very correct, english is not my native language.

remember that everything here is theoritical and it’s hard to apply these tips in your life, things will not suddenly change. but i believe in you and things take time, so don’t give up on getting better.

You were beautiful yet dangerous;
like a rose bush full of thorns.
And I was stupid enough to believe
that I was the only flower in your garden.

Co-star Jaime Murray about David Suchet’s Poirot smell
(Agatha Christie’s Poirot 10x01: “The Mystery of the Blue Train”)

The most basic and the most important task of any technician in both music and theatre production is simply wrapping a cable. It may sound basic, but *how* you wrap a cable can actually determine how long it lasts.  Now, most professional for-profit productions do list cable as “consumables”, meaning that they are designed to be thrown out and purchased or manufactured anew if they develop an issue.  But you will catch hell by any Foreperson, TD or SM for wrapping cable in a way that damages it.

There is a correct technique accepted by both IATSE and Teamsters production houses, and that is called the “Over/Under” technique. Trying to describe it in words is maddening, and even I have a hard time trying to tell someone what has become a reflex to me over 20 years.  But, this video by the London School of Sound perfectly shows the way I learned how to wrap cable.

Now, I know what you are saying if this is a new thing to you, or if you’ve been too embarrassed to ask because some asshole stagehand called you out for not knowing such a “basic” thing (And, if any tech does pull that, they are a bad person and shouldn’t be on the gig, FYI)

“But, WHY?!??! Why do Techs gotta make EVERYTHING so hard and, well, dramatic!!??”

Excellent Question!

It all comes down to how the cable is constructed.  The cable itself is actually made up of various different wires (which is why we don’t call a cable a “wire” on a show, because they technically mean two different things).  The wires in a cable, such as a balanced XLR cable, are actually wrapped around one another, like this:

Now you see that the wires are actually wrapped AROUND one another! This means that the cable, once covered in shielding, it going to want to twist a certain way, because the cable is tensioned around one another (usually counter-clockwise).  This means if you try to wrap it like your extension cord you use for your Christmas lights, it is going to get kinked up, and the wires inside will start binding against one another because by just wrapping it over your arm like a garden hose is going to force those cables to bind and twist in a way that is unnatural.

In short: You end up forcing them against one another until they simply break.

Yep. Wire itself is just thin bits of copper (anywhere from 22 to 10 gauge thick, with the bigger the number being the thinner the wire), and it doesn’t take much to bend them out. Just like when you shove your earbuds in your pocket without making sure they are coiled up nicely.

So, when you wrap Over/Under, you are actually alternating the coil of the cable to match the natural way the cable wants to go (this is called the “lay” of the cable). When you get the over/under technique down, you will feel that the cable naturally wants to coil that way, and it takes no effort.  When you wrap a coil just one over the other like a home extension cord, you can feel the cable actually twist and want to fight you.

Also, to know if you got it right, all you have to do is take one end of the cable, and then throw the rest of it out away from your body. If you did it right the cable will FLY out of your hands and land straight and true right on the deck, making you look like a badass stage ninja!

It may take a lot of practice, but eventually you will literally do it in your sleep.  Just like any motor action, it just takes practice! And, you will find that many professional houses still have people who cannot coil cable correctly (these tend to also be the know-it-alls who will give new techs trouble, ironically).  Master fast, accurate cable wrapping and you will save the band or the venue a TON of money in cable costs, and it will make you more attractive too!  Trust me.

Domestic Garden Witch: Orange You Glad You Saved That Peel?

So maybe you’re a college witch with limited space and money, limited to the one window in your dorm. Or, maybe you’re a witch without extensive backyard space who wants to start up a magical garden. Perhaps you’re a kitchen witch who wants the freshest herbs right at her fingertips.

For many witches, having a garden seems to be a bit of a no-brainer. After all, plants and magic go hand-in-hand. Plus, when thinking of a witch, it’s hard not to think of a cottage in the woods with a little vegetable garden out front. Unfortunately for the majority of us, our cottage in the woods is a tiny flat, and our garden out front is a windowsill with limited space.

This is when it comes time to embrace your craftiness and bring your garden indoors! Not only does it place your garden in a convenient location, it also allows you to freshen the air, recycle what would otherwise harm the earth, and embrace your witchy green thumb!

I’ve Got a Peeling!

If you’re not the kind of witch I am (the kind that looks at a citrus peel and sees zest to be added to food), and you tend to juice fruits or occasionally cut open a lime for tequila, then chances are you frequently compost or toss the leftover rinds. This is an alternative to that, which is particularly useful for starting up your own herb garden.

Cut the ends off of your fruit (it can be any kind of thick-rind citrus, such as orange, grapefruit, lemon, or lime) in such a way as to flatten the ends without cutting into the flesh. Then cut the fruit in half and remove the flesh for juicing, eating, et cetera. If you then cut a small hole in the flattened end for drainage, you can proceed to fill the makeshift pot with soil, add a seed, and water.

Allow the seedling to grow until it is time to transplant. Then simply plant the whole thing in a garden. The rind will decompose, fertilizing your plant (an excellent source of nitrogen and additional nutrients) and avoiding waste.

How Can I Witch This?

The possibilities here are similar to many container gardens, but there’s a little extra fun that you can have with citrus rinds. Unlike terra cotta or ceramic, citrus peels can be carved. Adding runes and symbols are made easier because of this and if you carve them into the fruit and allow the fruit to heal a bit before using it, you can add additional time and intent to it.

Depending  upon the intent, you may also want to coordinate the type of fruit with the type of spell. For instance, orange peels can promote happiness, healing, and can add a solar association to the garden.

In Conclusion…

Though a simple project, it has a lot of potential in magic and also has a lot of potential in saving money and resources for the student witch. It saves space (something that is also helpful for the student witch), and is a green alternative to other seed starters. Because it is rich in nutrients, it also makes an ideal fertilizer when transplanted.

When getting your garden started, try enhancing your plants’ health and yield by planting the seeds in enchanted citrus peels!

May all your harvests be bountiful! )O(

My number one piece of life advice is to take pictures. Take pictures of everything. Take pictures of the sunset even though you have about twenty identical photos, take pictures of the sky if you think it looks nice, take pictures of your favourite people even if you never show them the photos, because in a few years you’ll be grateful to look back on them. Take pictures of the bird in your garden and the new flowers your neighbors planted in the street and take pictures of your coffee if you think it looks cute, because no one in the coffee shop actually cares, believe me. Take pictures of yourself when you like the way you look and also when you don’t, because there’s a beauty in them anyway. Take pictures on the days you know you don’t want to forget even if they’re blurry messes because you’ll smile at them regardless. Just take pictures, because one day your pictures will be all that’s left of this time in your life

soulmate au: you and your soulmate have tattoos that represent the others interests that tingle when you two are close to one another

Ink stained across your arm forming an intricate sleeve, a tattoo filled with things your soulmate was interested in, that would fluctuate from time to time. You remember that before it was filled with electron diagrams, pi and other math symbols, chemical structural formulas, and things you couldn’t recognize, all coming together to form a science themed tattoo sleeve, but now all that changed. Some tattoos fading to make space for your soulmate’s newest interests, which mainly consisted of the newest superhero to join the scene, Spiderman. Spidey’s logo was now on your bicep, a small avenger’s logo on the base of your wrist, a crest that matched the iron man suit, and spider webs lacing the new tattoos with the old. But the one thing that never changed was the writing that surrounded your wrist that was written in their writing, “always be yourself”

You had the vague idea that your soulmate attended Middletown with you, since the only time the writing on your wrist seemed to tingle, was walking down the corridors of school. But you always thought against finding them, having the idea that they were better off without you. Plus after spending hours staring at your tattoos, you felt that you two would have nothing in common. You may have been smart enough to attend Middletown; however your interests were more inclined to herbs and plants, not science.

So you made the decision to not look for your soulmate, because if they didn’t bother looking for you, then it only proves they didn’t need you in their life. So you would just continue walking down the halls, knowing that someone at school could also feel the tingling sensation on their arm.

You were gathering your supplies to tend your rooftop garden before you headed to sleep, however the last thing that you expected was to see Spiderman on your rooftop. The red and blue hero was resting against the brink ledge, as he clutched his arm, seeing a few gashes on the suit.

“Spiderman are you ok?” setting down your supplies.

A groan escaped his lips, his body trying to become alert, but couldn’t with how tired he felt. He shook his head, “no, but I’ll be fine in a bit” trying to sound heroic but failing in the process.

You quickly went over to the small first aid kit, knowing that although it wasn’t built for serious injuries, there were still supplies for simple cuts and injuries from when you would nick yourself while tending your garden, “I seriously doubt that.”

As you approached Spiderman, small tingles ran up your arm, as the writing on your wrist started to feel warmer with each passing step. Your heart sped up knowing the reason why your arm was tingling, but right now his injuries mattered more than asking him if he was your soulmate. You gently set your supplies down, being mindful of where he was hurting and ignoring his intense gaze. Your hands were slightly trembling, anxious of being so close to him that you started to question if you could do this. You weren’t sure if you were nervous because you were near Spiderman or near your soulmate. Your licked your lips and emptying your thoughts, reaching out for his right arm, and the moment you touched it, you felt the warm spark run across your arm, confirming the small doubts in your mind, this really was your soulmate.

You didn’t do anything to call attention to it, and focused on the gashes on his suit, seeing the scarlet liquid staining not only the suit but the pale skin underneath.
