My Life as a Cartoon Network Intern (and how I think you can Intern in Animation too!)

Over this past summer, I was given the amazing opportunity to be a Production Intern at Cartoon Network (I worked on Clarence; woo!)

Every once in a while I get people who either come up to me in person, or who message me on Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram etc. and ask me how I got the opportunity, and how they can intern in animation as well. Recently (Over the course of the last week or so) I’ve been asked a bunch, so I decided to create this massive master post in an attempt to get the information out to as many artists (and non-artists) as possible!

I know a lot of people who feel like getting into the animation industry is completely impossible, (I should know, I felt the exact same way not too long ago) and I also know just how LITTLE references there actually are on finding an internship, and beyond that, the type of experiences that people who gotten the chance to intern have had. I told myself that if I got the internship, I would try to change that, and here we are! (A little late, but I really want to make this as helpful as possible)

If you all could please Reblog this to your followers I would love it! You never know who’s looking and hopefully, I can help people with my experiences!

So to make it easier for people who don’t have the time to read all of my ramblings, AND for the sake of ease/reference; I’m going to break this post up into different sections: My Internship search My initial excitement/rejections - How I got the internship - My experience as an Intern and How Interning has helped me as an artist

My Internship search:

Halfway through last year (My Sophomore year of college) I had decided that I would take a leap of faith and apply for some internships. I didn’t expect much of it, but my hopes were high because I thought I had at least a halfway decent portfolio, and my resume had some pretty okay animation experience on it (I’m the head of the only Animation organization on campus) and I’m majoring in animation so I had some 3D experience and 2D experience (which I’ve worked on on my own time, since it’s what I want to do)

One of my biggest worries was the fact that I go to a state school: Southern Illinois University. The school is great, and I love it there, but I couldn’t afford art school, so I was very worried about how many opportunities there would be for me in Southern Illinois. Especially with the amount of amazing art that I see coming from people who go to schools like CalArs, Sheridan and the like. I was frustrated because I wasn’t there and felt like I would never get the opportunity to work in animation, which has been my dream since I could hold a pencil. Cartoons have changed my life, and they still do; but I was genuinely afraid that because I couldn’t afford a more art-related education, that I wouldn’t get the opportunity to tell stories like I’ve always dreamed. (But I digress)

As I was saying: I was doing all of your standard (I want/need a job) searches to try to find something in animation: Glassdoor, Internships.com, JOBS.com; stuff like that. FUN FACT: I’ve read every single Glassdoor review for both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Every Job. All of them.

Some internships are a lot easier to find: Nickelodeon, Disney, Titmouse

While some are WAAAAAY more elusive: Cartoon Network…

This narrowed my search down from a bunch of animation studios.. to a handful. My candidates were: Nickelodeon, Dreamworks and Titmouse. (All wonderful animation studios!) Now here’s where it gets interesting:

 My initial excitement/Rejections:

I didn’t hear back from any of them! NOT ONE. Which I learned after a very long, VERY stressful waiting period. (At this time it was early to mid April) Now; I knew that I was really too young to be applying for the internships, (I’m young for my grade so I was 19 at the time) And I knew that all of these internships specified that they wanted a Junior or above, but I figured since the year was almost over and I had good grades that MAYBE, they would let me slide. But I had no real experience working in animation, and although my hopes were high, they were also reeeeeeeal low.

After waiting for the few weeks that I did, and not hearing a peep, I was dejected, frustrated, and I felt like there was no hope for me… Which leads us to…

HOW I GOT THE INTERNSHIP:

When it comes to how I actually GOT the job: The answer I want to give you guys is that it was complete luck, and that by a series of random occurrences, somehow I was offered the position…. BUT, that’s only half true. Honestly, I worked really hard on making sure that I had as good a résumé as I possibly could:

By that, I mean that I’ve worked really hard in school to get good grades/dean’s list/honors program, etc.; and I also started an animation organization on campus. (There’s a major, but there was a huge lack of enthusiasm and community within the program at SIU so I wanted to help to bring other artists and myself closer, and make great art while we’re at it)

On top of that, I wrote (what I think was) a really good cover letter. But… Even with all three of those things, I don’t know if I would have gotten the position if it wasn’t for the internship coordinator at my school. I go to Southern Illinois University, and she pointed me in the direction of the Cartoon Network internship. (The Turner website isn’t like Nickelodeon, they only post internships when there’s a position to be filled)

LUCKILY for me, the Producer of Clarence (The wonderful Keith Mack) is an alum from SIU, so he connected with the internship coordinator (bless her heart) and I learned exactly when the position opened up. My resume and things got sent straight to him. I got a Skype interview a couple of weeks later, and I got accepted the day of the interview!

So I mean… Looking back, it was half luck, half hard work.

It’s not like the grades and stuff really matter outside of college; Grades are just arbitrary letters, after all. But, I say that to say that I’ve tried to work hard in college even though I’m not at an art school, and that if you’re focused, it doesn’t really matter WHAT you’re good at; but how hard you work and the type of person you are. You can never go to college but be an amazing artist and an amazing person, and if you meet that ONE right person, or if you’re at that ONE correct place at the correct time; amazing things can happen; and I FIRMLY believe that.

While I was at CN I was talking to someone (I don’t know if it’s best to call her out by name?..) But anyway she was telling me about how some of the artists are found at CN and she told me that Tumblr, YES TUMBLR. Is a HUUUUUUUUGE factor in the hiring of some people! So if you can… POST POST POST! Putting your art out there is the absolute best way to get seen. You NEVER know who’s looking at your artwork, and this website is an amazing platform for sharing, and learning about art. (And as a shameless plug: The blog Artists-Everyday is actually meant for just that ;) check it ouuuuut)

But moving forward; let’s talk about:

THE INTERVIEW:

The interview to be an intern at CN was both really intimidating, and really comfortable at the same time. I love animation pretty much more than anything, so the idea that a single interview could determine whether or not I got a life-changing opportunity was pretty much one of the most daunting things that I could think of. The fact that I was in southern Illinois RIGHT at the time that I would have had to interview really didn’t help either… It was really scary to me, because it meant that I wasn’t going to be able to interview in person. It was a Skype interview, (a group one at that) and it was my first time ever interviewing for a position online.

Once I got past all of the initial fear, the interview was smooth sailing. They had already seen my resume and cover letter; so we really just spent a lot of time talking about casual things: my favorite animated movie, what my favorite episode of Clarence was, etc. It wasn’t like your usual interview where they ask “why would we hire you” or “what is your greatest weakness” and I really appreciated that. They weren’t robots, they weren’t the ANIMATION GODS like I was imagining in my head – they were actual people, who happen to love animation, and the interview reflected that.

I learned that I had gotten the position the day that I interviewed, and I’m SO GLAD I didn’t have to wait any more days, because at that point I was on fire on the inside. II don’t know what the hiring process was like for interns on different shows, so don’t take my word for how long it’ll take if you make it this far)

MY EXPERIENCE AS AN INTERN/HOW IT’S HELPED ME AS AN ARTIST:

There is no one word to describe how amazing it is to work at Cartoon Network. A lot of CN stuff is “hush hush” high security, and they don’t allow you to take pictures of the inside of the buildings - So I’m not going to say much, other than: It’s magic. Pure magic. But I will say one thing: Free food. AT ALL TIMES. EVERY DAY.

Working there is one of the most creatively satisfying things I’ve ever done in my life. The people, the atmosphere… it was all so inspiring. I’ve learned more in those past three months than I have in the last two years, and It’s all because I was surrounded by so many people who are better than me. People, who I might add, are some of the greatest, nicest, and most helpful people I’ve met in a long time. Plus, Cartoon Network really goes out on a limb to take care of their employees.

I got to sit in on voice actors doing their recordings, I got to see storyboard pitches, I got to see animatics and assets for episodes that were unaired, and it was all being created right in front of me by such PASSIONATE people.

I EVEN GOT TO MEET TOM KENNY. He remembered my name…

As a production intern you get to see the logistic side of things: and you really grow to appreciate Production and that side of the industry, because without the production team, there would be no show! Even though I want to be a storyboard artist, I now know more about the industry and Cartoon Network as a whole, and it makes me feel much more connected to the shows that I watch on television.

One of the other biggest things about the program is the fact that I got to take storyboard/character design tests for practice, and I got the chance to pitch a show to the studio, in front of the Clarence Crew and even some really important executives! which was an AMAZING opportunity that I learned a TON from. I got amazing feedback, and I had to push myself harder than I’ve ever pushed myself before. Mentally, artistically, and personally.

IN CONCLUSION

It’s possible. Being an intern at an animation studio is possible. Getting a job in animation is possible. Making friends in animation, and actually feeling like you belong to something you’ve dreamed about since you were a child is POSSIBLE. It doesn’t matter where you go to school, it doesn’t matter if you’re afraid, and it doesn’t matter what you look like. People are drawn to people who are genuine; and if you love animation, or production, or storyboarding or character design, and you work hard and try to really open yourself up artistically; you CAN do it. Take it from the 20 year old black guy who loves anime, video games and cartoons. You can do it.

I don’t know how many people will see this or how helpful it actually is; but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE feel free to share this info with your followers, and on top of that if you guys EVER have any questions about my experiences or need me to clarify anything for ANY reason you’re absolutely welcome to contact me!

I know how many people would love to intern, and I know (from experience) how DREADFUL It is to find conducive information about how the process works and how YOU can get an internship.

Hope you guys stuck with this post till the end, and like I said if you ever have any more questions, (hell, or if you even want to share YOUR art with me… I’m always open!)

TL;DR:                  This Gif Sums it Up

How To Be A Good Med Student In The Clinical Years

A doctor once told me that the best instrument we have is medicine is the retrospectoscope.  Basically he was saying that often it is easier to make sense of things when looking back from the vantage point of the future.  This is true of life too.  After being an intern for two months I suddenly understand what things make for a strong med students, and what things do not.  Unfortunately, I feel like I lacked many of the qualities that would have made me a helpful med student.  Though I cannot rectify my own mistakes, perhaps I can pass my advice on to future generations of third and fourth year medical students.  I now present, how to be a good clinical med student:

  1. Show up.  This seems obvious.  When you are there to work, then be there to work.  It is so frustrating when medical students are mysteriously absent all the time (only to be found later in the cafe or cafeteria) or when they are there but totally disinterested in what is going on.  I understand that sometimes as a medical student things get slow - like when the interns are putting in orders and notes or when there is a slow call day.  But at least bring something to read.  Don’t play Pokemon Go.  Don’t spend all day on Uworld.  Make an effort to learn real clinical medicine.
  2. Take initiative to learn.  When I was a third year I would wander the hospital to find learning opportunities.  I made friends with the telemetry nurses and they started a folder of good tele strips to give me each day.  I would go to other teams and see if their patients had good exam findings.  I found the cardiology fellows and asked if they had good patients with murmurs.  There is so much learning that can happen if you are willing to experience it.  Now, referring back to number 1, make sure you always let your residents know where you are.  Personally, I would be ecstatic if my students went to hunt down murmurs rather than playing Pokemon Go.
  3. Read your patient’s chart.  This can be very helpful and will make you look like a star.  Residents are busy taking admissions and sometimes don’t have the time to hunt down records that are three and four years old.  You can stand out by doing that  Look at a patient’s past hospital notes or their specialty clinic notes.  For example, you might be able to alert the resident that an old echocardiogram demonstrated a below normal ejection fraction, which in turn might change how much fluid the patient is given.  Or perhaps you found that during a hospitalization in the past the patient became delirious and needed a one-to-one sitter.  Find ways to add information in a helpful, non-prescriptive, non-judgmental way.  I guarantee your reviews will benefit.
  4. Read about your patient’s condition.  Even if you just browse Medscape, UpToDate, or some other curated source, make sure you understand the basics of your patient’s primary diagnosis.  If they are there for heart failure, read over the basics of treatment.  If they have autoimmune hepatitis look up some info on diagnosis and prognosis.  These things will get noticed, especially when you ask intelligent questions on rounds.  Do not be like a med student I had who, when asked, reported for 4 straight days that he had not read about his patient’s disease.  He instead responded he was too busy with Uworld so he would get a good shelf score.
  5. See your patients.  I literally had students who, on rounds, tried to present without actually having seen the patient in the morning.  This is a huge no-no.  Get to work early enough to see your patients, review their labs, and their overnight events.
  6. Practice your presentations.  Even if it is on your own or with other medical students, spend time working on your presentation skills.  Heck, even ask the residents to watch you.  I would be happy to do that for any of my students.  Unfortunately, none have taken me up on that offer and instead bumble through their presentation each day making the same mistakes.  By the end of medical school you need to be able to make a good presentation.
  7. Spend time working on note writing.  Compare your notes to your residents’, your attendings’, and the specialists’.  Everyone has a different style.  Look at lots of notes to determine a style for yourself.
  8. Forget all the step 1 stuff you learned.  I find many students perseverate on the terrible stereotypes and patterns they see on step 1.  Not all black people with cough have sarcoidosis.  Not every patient with acute kidney injury needs urine eosinophils.  These are good associations, but realize that step 1 has little overlap with real clinical medicine.  Take those associations with a grain of salt.
  9. Don’t just look for zebras.  I cannot tell you how many times students opt not to follow a patient because the case “doesn’t seem that interesting.”  The majority of medicine is made up of mundane and common diseases such as heart failure, pneumonia, COPD, cirrhosis, etc.  It is pretty rare to get the exciting cases, like disseminated histoplasmosis or a crazy paraneoplastic syndrome.  A lot of learning can happen on cases that are “bread and butter” medicine.  Make sure you follow those cases too.
  10. Be gentle to your interns/residents.  The transition from 4th year to being a doctor is swift and brutal.  It is easy to criticize when you aren’t the one taking 5 admits.  Find ways to help your intern/resident, because in return they will help you.  I learned this lesson the hard way my 4th year, when I unintentionally threw an intern under the bus while trying to look smart.  Afterwards she took me aside and reminded me that she controlled much of my fate while I was a student under her.  I learned my lesson and we went on to become very good friends.

The clinical years of medical school are daunting.  You constantly feel like a tap dancing monkey, trying to impress people you barely have time to get to know.  But personally, I am not looking for someone who knows everything about everything.  That’s why you are in school.  The best thing you can get out of third and fourth year is how to do a good history and physical, how to write good notes, and how to triage patients.  The best students are interested, willing to learn, and know their patients well.  If you keep that in mind, the clinical years are much simpler.  I promise, if you follow your patients you will learn much more than just doing qbank questions.

Best of luck on your clinical rotations.  Don’t make things too complicated.  At the end of the day have fun, treat your patients right, and keep an open mind.  The learning will happen whether you recognize it or not.

What goes around comes around… Or the one where Alfred gets a little loopy and lets slip a little bit of why the kids are Bruce's karma…
By Organization for Transformative Works

This is crack. And short.

Setting: Let’s just say Alfred’s on the good drugs after suffering a bad fall while doing his chores or something…

Sorry, Alfie…or rather, sorry, B. ;P

FF (Rated K)

“Ahh. Master Dick. So bouncy.”

“Pfft.” Dick smothered his laugh.

“I remember when Master Bruce was the same. I’d told Master Thomas he was to hold the little flesh bag himself.”

“Oh my god.” Steph gaped at Alfred. She and the others couldn’t believe what he just said.

“Miss Stephanie! I did not know you were here.” Alfred tried to get up but Tim was there to gently push him back down. He still kept talking to her. “Welcome. Whatever Master Bruce has told you that you did wrong. Please know he’s done worse.”

“Oh my god,” she repeated.

“Always falling down and getting himself hurt,” Alfred continued, shaking his head tiredly. “A band aid isn’t enough for a broken finger. Which, I might add, is not a flesh wound. Even if he was only 10, he should’ve known better.”

“This is gold,” Jason said. He was holding his phone up, having been recording since Alfie said Dick was bouncy.

“Ooh. Jaybird. Lad.” He made a motion for Jason to come closer, and then whispered loudly, “Please tell your father the sky is blue and can indeed be seen when the sun is at full zenith. If he would just wake up and go to bed on time then he would know.” Alfred nodded and Jason stood back. “Also, I know where he hid his alarm clock. I’ve known since he was 10 and tried to bullocks me into believing that time was lost and therefore class was canceled.”

“I can’t. Oh my god.” His hand was shaking so much; Jason gave the phone to Tim who was more in control.

“Where is Master Damian? I must tell him not to be like his father. The banister is not a slide.” Dick looked at their youngest. Damian was actually blushing. Huh. Dick didn’t think, he’d actually do such a thing. “I don’t care how ‘cool’ it looks.”

“Father did that?”

“Did he say that too?” This coming from Steph. Having Bruce say cool was so foreign somehow.

“Was cool even a word then?” Tim asked.

“Lester Young, 1933,” Jason said and they all looked at him. “What? I google.”

They all turned when Bruce came into the room to find the kids (and they were all kids to him, no matter how old they got) were all crowding around Alfred. He was about to reprimand them (Gently, Bruce. Gently) when Alfred spoke up.

“Master Bruce, you do not slide down railings, do you understand? Especially in only your jammies when we have guests aiming to bleed your parents of their money. Appearances must be kept.”

“Alfie…” Bruce groaned before taking the seat next to the bed which Dick vacated. He saw Tim give the phone he held to Jason. Great. They were recording this. What else did Alfred say?

“Ahh. My little boy. When did you grow from that wet tiny round mess into this hulking brooding mess?”

“…”

“Must I still clean up after you?”

All his kids lost it.

Author’s Note: This was a commission from the darling @micoo-and-gav, who was delightfully patient with me while I worked on this. <3

You reclined in your seat in the Achievement Hunter office, taking a break from the video you were editing to watch the chaos of the office. The guys had been gifted with more weapons and were having a full blown Nerf war around you. So far, they had managed to avoid hitting you with anything, but you knew it was only a matter of time before one of them tried to drag you into it. You had taken out your camera and started shooting them, because somehow they had managed to start a Nerf war in an office full of cameras without turning any of them on.

You watched as one-by-one, the Achievement Hunters were eliminated. Gavin went first with a shot to his thigh. He dove to the ground and rolled out of the way of Michael, who was sprinting away from Jeremy. Gavin noticed you recording and gave you a thumbs up, pulling out his phone to follow suit. Trevor was the next to go with a bullet to the side of his neck. He fell theatrically, clutching his neck and asking you to take care of his children.

The fight continued in this manner until only Ryan and Jeremy were left. Ryan was surprisingly lithe, jumping over tables to avoid Jeremy’s bullet. It seemed they were at a stalemate until Jeremy ran behind you and wrapped one arm around your neck, aiming his gun at your temple. Ryan glared, his gun trained at Jeremy.

“Drop the weapon or the girl gets it.” Jeremy said, narrowing his eyes at Ryan. Ryan looked between you and Jeremy with a frown. Jeremy cocked the fake gun.

Ever see a crazy-long, indecipherable reblog chain on your dashboard? Not ideal, right?

Starting tomorrow, reblogs will have a new look—one that showcases all comments as equals, not buried under an impossible stack of blockquote indents. Our change to reblog captions last month laid the necessary groundwork for us to arrive here, at a place where the dashboard will be a lot easier to read and cleaner-looking.

Here’s how this will look (original on the left, new look on the right):

Questions about all this? Keep reading for the answers…

FAQ

Q: Will this show up for all posts on the dashboard, or just the posts published from here on out?
A: All posts! So you can scroll back in time and see your older reblogs in this format too.

Q: Will it look like this on my blog?
A: Not necessarily: your public blog will continue to display reblogs according to however your chosen theme displays them. The new look is on the dashboard only, for now.

Q: How do I reblog starting from a certain post in the reblog thread?
A: Same as before: Just click the username of whoever made the reblog you want to reblog from. It’ll open up, and you can click or tap its reblog icon to reblog that post. Got it?

Q: Can I edit earlier reblogs, or the original post, in my reblog?
A: You can choose whether or not you want to include that stuff in your own reblog, but you can’t really go in and edit other people’s text. We know—that level of flexibility allowed you guys do some pretty interesting stuff, but it also made misattribution way too easy.

Q: Can I remove all captions on a post that I’m reblogging?
A: Sure. Click or tap the reblog button and click on the X that appears when you hover over the comments.

Q: Can I delete a single reblog caption within the thread?
A: No, it’s an all-or-nothing thing.

Q: How can I be sure my posts are credited properly?
A: Use the content source field! No matter how many times an original post of yours gets reblogged, you’ll always be credited as the source. Rebloggers might add a gif, or some commentary, or take out the caption entirely, but your username will always, always be stuck to the bottom of the post. Click on that source link any time you want to see what was originally posted.

Q: Can I send you my feedback on this change?
A: Yes. And for the record, even when you receive a simple thank-you response (which is necessary since there are millions of you and only a few of us), every word of your feedback is read lovingly by human eyes, then passed along to our engineers.

The balmy June day reached you in an instant when you stepped out of your city apartment. You sighed, taking the tie from around your wrist to sweep your hair up off of your neck. It wasn’t like you’d just spent half an hour straightening it just with the hopes it wouldn’t be this hot – not at all. You had grown up around these summers, when all traces of winter had glided away, promising to visit by the end of the year, and the flowers had all blossomed, the rose bushes and trees in your favorite park ablaze with vibrancy.

Taking a step down the street, you delighted in in the lenient, heat and memory filled future moments that you looked forward to. A soft smile came to your face as you passed an ice cream shop, a mental note being made to drag your boyfriend back there with you this afternoon. For as long you could remember, this was what summer meant – a true sense of contentment and freedom unlike much else. You fondly awaited this all year – the days when the sunshine seemed to share its radiance with you and the birds shared their song with those patiently waiting with an open ear. These thoughts and more crossed your mind as your feet crossed the road, reaching the busy park where you were to meet your boyfriend today. You were both working students and it was rare you got together outdoors during the day, given you both kept late hours at desks, on shared couches, and in beds. It had been your dedication to work and success that had kept you apart this last semester and you had missed him tremendously. Now, with finals in the distant past and a limitless highway of possibilities for the season ahead, you were appreciative of all the moments that lie ahead.

I need to get this out.

I keep hearing people compare Eretria’s pass at Amberle to what she did with Wil and I need to set the record straight.

Let’s review.  When Eretria and Wil first met, she was functioning in full rover capacity, going after an easy mark.  She drugged him and took the elf stones, and used her sexuality to do it.  When she shows up again at the Elven Palace and sleeps with Wil, she is there to retrieve the elf stones again, under duress I might add, so that she can be free of Cephelo from what is essentially indentured servitude.

So to recap, both times Eretria was making any sexual advance towards Wil, she did it because she had to, or because he had something she needed.

Now let’s review her interactions with Amberle.  She chooses to stick around for this quest seemingly because she’s present in a vision at Safehold, (and tied up) but despite how cold Amberle is towards her, she chooses to stick around even when she is untied and no longer actually needs to. Cephelo was gone for the time being and no one was controlling her. Even when Cephalo did show up, she chooses again to defy Cephalo and come back to save Amberle, knocking out the entire camp of rovers. Amberle promises her money, but they never speak of it again, and it’s almost just an exchange for the sake of not discussing why Eretria really came back for her when she already had everything she wanted, which was her freedom in exchange for Amberle.

Anyway, we fast forward to the hot tub scene, where they are for the moment, just relaxing.  There’s no one forcing either girl in any direction, and they’re just there, finally alone, having a seemingly normal conversation.  When Eretria makes her pass at Amberle, no one is influencing her.  Cephelo is no longer pulling her strings and there’s nothing that she needs from Amberle.  That’s what makes this different than what happened with Wil.  Her pass at Amberle wasn’t generated out of some ulterior motive or necessity, it came from a genuine place.  You can see when Amberle deflects that Eretria is truly hurt by being compared to rapey Cephelo, because she’s obviously got feelings for her.

If you’re not 100% sold, let’s talk about them being strung up by crazy elf dude. He whacks Amberle in the head to drag her away and immediately the camera pans to Eretria’s obviously distressed face.  Of all the reaction shots, they pan to her. While Amberle is getting prepared to be tortured, Eretria wiggles her way out of her bindings and immediately rushes to save Amberle. Unfortunately, Wil got there first, and was already mid smooch when she busted through the door (with an absolutely frantic worried look on her face, I might add).  When Amberle turns around and breaks the kiss, both she an Eretria look absolutely horrified, and Wil looks like he does not give a fuck at all, he has this completely blank look.  Seriously, go back and watch it.  He does not even skip a beat when he runs over to the little girl to ask for a way out.

Lastly, when Cephelo tricks Eretria into zip lining across to safety before Wil and Amberle arrive, Amberle is the one to call out to Eretria for help.  Wil isn’t anywhere in the frame (until he’s needed to blast the reaper with his handy elf stones really).  Cephelo says quite vindictively to Eretria that they’ll never choose her, but she looks straight at Amberle, says “so be it” and slides on back across, because Amberle needs her and that’s all that matters to her in that moment.

The whole point of this rant is, look at the motives.  Look at where the attention lies.  Wil isn’t in the middle of any love triangle, nor does he appear to want to be. It’s Amberle at the center between Wil and Eretria.  And seriously, if anyone tries to say that Eretria was just being a rover and trying to seduce Amberle because “that’s what she does” can fight me. Eretria is a precious bisexual child who has real feelings for Amberle.  Why else would she be on this suicidal quest?

PRINCESS ROVER WILL RISE.

Boom. Out.

Summary: You surprise your boyfriend Harrison by dyeing your hair pink.

Warnings: None :)

A/N: This imagine is based off a video that Corrina posted on her twitter with Harrison.

“Good morning love,” I smiled as the feeling of Harrison’s arms wrapped themselves around my waist, pulling me closer into his warm body. I hummed in satisfaction, nuzzling my face into his neck as his hand rubbed up and down my arm. I closed my eyes, taking in the peaceful moment that ended way too soon… “Get up love birds!” Kian yelled, throwing a pillow at us, “Harry, we gotta leave! Right now!” Kian yelled once more before slamming the door shut. I groaned, rolling out of Harrison’s arms, “Do you have to film with them today?”

He chuckled, getting out of the bed, “It’s for their Friday video. You know I would stay here all day if I could.” With a quick peck on the lips, my boyfriend was off for the day, while I was stuck at the house with Bobby. I sleepily made my way out into the living room, seeing Bobby sitting on the couch all snuggled up with Dicaprio. “Morning boobie!” I joke, taking a seat next to him and scratching Dicaprio on the head. Bobby playfully rolls his eyes at the nickname that Franny and I liked to tease him with as he greets me back.

“Do you think you could drive me to the store? I want to pick up some of the groceries since everyone else is busy today.” I politely asked Bobby. It’s an ongoing joke in the house that Kian and him are the designated drivers, since they are constantly being asked to pick up and drop off everyone else. “Ya sure I’ll take you y/n.” Bobby agreed getting up to grab his car keys.

I followed him out to the car, hopping into the passenger seat. I immediately took the aux cord and plugged in my phone. The whole drive to Target Bobby and I sang at the top of our lungs, very off key might I add. “Target time!” Bobby yelled as he put the car in park. I laughed at him, getting out of the car and proceeding towards the entrance.

We walked in and grabbed a cart, “Wait, take this,” I demanded, stopping in my tracks and pulling out my phone. Bobby gave me a confused look as I swiped up on the screen, opening the camera. I hit record and turned my phone around to face Bobby and I, “Hey guys! Bobby and I are at Target right now because we needed to pick up some groceries for the house and I thought that I would just do I quick little vlog since I always see comments saying you like the vlogging videos I do.” I continued to vlog as we walked around the store, every once in awhile making a stupid pun that makes us laugh like idiots, very David Dobrik and Liza Koshy-esque.

I turned down the next aisle and immediately my eyes widened. “Y/n? Are you okay?” Bobby asked, placing his hand on my back. “I just had the best idea.” I murmured, walking closer to the variety of colorful cardboard boxes displayed on the shelf. My eyes scanned over tons of hair coloring boxes. I have wanted to dye my hair a fun color for a decent amount of time but have always kept the idea in the back of my mind.

For some reason my eyes were drawn to a hot pink color, “What do you think of the pink Bobby?” I asked him, picking it up off the shelf and turning the box around to read more about it. “It’s…pink.” He stated, confusion laced in his voice. “I think I’m going to get it. Do you think Harrison would like it?” All of a sudden I was overwhelmed with worry. I love Harrison, he is the most supportive, caring, and of course, loving boyfriend I have ever had, but I have never done anything this drastic to my hair. What if he hated it?

Bobby took the box out of my hand, “I think that he loves you no matter what.” I sighed in relief as I realized that Bobby was right, “Thanks Bobby.” He smiled, pulling me into a side hug, “Of course.”

I couldn’t stop smiling as Bobby pulled into our driveway. I looked back down at the pink hair dye box in my hand and began to think of what everyone’s reaction would be like. I walked into my shared bathroom and began to rip open the box, pouring the contents out onto the counter. I read the instructions and pulled on the black gloves that the kit came with. I started to squeeze the dye onto my hand, mesmerized by the gooey pink dye that came out. I began to rake the color through my h/c (hair color) hair and soon enough finished covering it, roots and all.

I set my timer for forty minutes and then started to vlog again, “So, I decided to dye my hair pink. The only person that knows i’m doing this is Bobby and I’m going to surprise everyone else when we go and pick them up a little later. Hopefully it turns out okay!”

After forty minutes was finally up, I washed out my hair, watching as the water that went down the drain was a tinted pink. Next, I took out my hair dyer and plugged it in. Once it was all dry, I was in awe. I ran my fingers through it, I loved it. My phone buzzed and I looked to see that it was from Harrison.

We are done filming babe, let me know when you are on your way xx

I quickly responded back as I walked out of the bathroom to tell Bobby that they were done filming and were ready to get picked up.

We are about to leave :)

My heart was racing as we pulled up to the location they were filming at. My phone was in my hand ready to capture everyone’s reaction when they got into the car. Harrison was the first one to reach the car, I could hear him laughing at something Jc said as he pulled open the door. He began to sit down when he noticed my hair, “Oh my god…” he said under his breath.

His mouth hung open as he scooted over to the middle seat so he could sit by me. “Oh God- You hate it…” I turned my camera off and began to look out the window. I felt him gently take some of my hair into his hands, “What are you talking about y/n? I love it. You look beautiful.” He spoke softly continuing to play with my hair. I felt my heart flutter as I turned my head back to look at him and see him smiling uncontrollably. He switched his focus on my hair to my eyes, taking hold of my hands and lightly squeezing them, reassuring me that he did indeed love my hair.

Once we started on our way back to the house, I pulled out my phone once more, opening up snapchat. I began to take a video, showing off my hair, when Harrison started to speak, “So frickin cute…Look at her with the pink hair. Oh-My-God. Jesus Chri-” I cut him off, “Wanna make out?” I asked him jokingly. Even though I was joking, he obviously wasn’t, as he placed his hand on the side of my face and pulled me in for a long kiss. I closed my eyes as his soft, warm lips captured my own.

When we pulled apart I couldn’t help but laugh, a little embarrassed that all of our friends just watched us kiss in the backseat of Bobby’s car. I hid my face in the crook of Harrison’s neck as he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him. “God- I love you.” He stated, placing a kiss on top of my head. “I love you too Harrison.” And I truly did mean it.

AU where Pidge is a song-writer at Voltron Records and Lance is a new talent they’ve just hired. Allura, the President of Voltron Records, asks Pidge to write a song for Lance. Pidge is reluctant at first because she doesn’t know how good Lance is, she’s only really written songs for artists she knows and trusts. But when she hears Lance’s singing for the first time, and realizes the raw talent he possesses, she’s completely sold and starts work on writing lyrics worthy of his voice.

Butterfly, Star Butterfly (Kingsman Au part 1)

hello everyone, Mr.E here after a seriously long time of not writing full stories. Sorry, life has been pretty chaotic for me and draining. I’m fine but it’s been hard to sit down and actually write a story but here I am with my newest story and letting you know despite the fact Halloween is over, I am still going to write a few stories for starcoween (a totally silly event I made up forever ago) After that i might do a part 2 to this, might give out some birthday gifts I owe. Not really sure yet but we shall see.

Story Prompt: Star Butterfly is a young woman that works for Disney, a humble yet successful shop located in her hometown of Mewni that sells various merchandise based on their popular retellings of classic fairy tales. At least that’s what they want you to think. In truth, they are an agency operating at the highest levels of discretion, protecting the world from any and all threats but this time Mewni’s the target and the secret organization is going to need some help.

I absolutely love the film Kingsman. For those who don’t know it is a British spy film that’s kind of a mix of my fair lady, James Bond and some playful satire of genre. and I couldn’t resist making an au of it. that being said, it is a rated R film so don’t watch it if you’re not supposed to! Seriously just read this story and wait. Oh btw there is some cussing in this story but that’s it really I didn’t follow the plot of the movie one to one and it’s more on a personal level than it was in the film. and Yes I totally poked fun at the codenames and Disney.

so that’s it for me. Have an amazing week! I will try to finish either Monster Hunter Marco or the corpse bride au this week along with the next two nova chapters. I was also thinking of putting up some au ideas I came up in case somebody needed some ideas or inspiration for drawing or writing and the spiderman homecoming au notes that me and my good friend @hains-mae came up with if anyone is curious. Not sure yet. oh btw she’s taking commissions if anyone is interested. I hope you enjoy the story and have a good one!

I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Head (And I'm Not Sure I Want To- Just Try Not To Make A Mess Up There, Okay?)

Oh look, what’s that- is it ol’ Keith with another procrastination one-shot? Why yes, I do believe so!

This has actually been in the works for a while, I’ve been adding bits and pieces every other day when I need a break from stuff and it’s finally come together. I’m not sure it’s everything it could be, but it’s got angst, fluff and vaguely-telepathic mind/soul bonds, so who the hell cares? Should be cute-ish.

Contains semi-detailed descriptions of pararibulitis attacks, so tread lightly if that stuff bothers you. Otherwise, hope you enjoy! <3

(I’ll be popping this on Ao3 in a minute too if you prefer reading there)

“Where on earth could they have gone?” said Dirk, raking his eyes across the wall for the fiftieth time to no avail. How he’d managed to lose such an extraordinary number of Dalmatians was anyone’s guess.

“You really need a better way of organising this stuff,” said Todd, stood beside Dirk with his arms crossed and his gaze on the (actually very coherent, thank you very much) web of strings. “I don’t know how you find anything in this mess.”

“Do you need me to explain the case again?”

“Please, God, no.”

“Well then, stop complaining and help me find these Dalmatians! I’m sure they’re terrified!”

Snape: Not The Hero We Deserve

Snape has largely been considered a heroic character within the Potter fandom, with apologists going so far as to suggest that he did nothing wrong. However, anyone who reads the books with a critical eye knows that Severus Snape, one of the most well-written and interesting characters of the series, was a complete toolshed. This panel, which will be open to screaming and boos from the audience, is designed to separate impressions of Snape’s value as a literary character from his values as a person within the books.

White Night in Chicago - THE LONG AWAITED SEND OFFFFFFFFF ~

After the concert they the platinums with sendoff wristbands hang back while everyone else exited the floor. You could tell everyone was trying to catch a their breath from the AMAZING performance that YB did while also eyeing the staff. Eventually everyone started to group together. I found one of the girls that I bonded with during the concert so we stood together and she made sure to hold me close so that when they were trying to slim the massive horde into sort of a line.

They probably checked our wristbands like… 50 times while we waited to go downstairs to the send off. Concert buddy and I ended up being in the first middle half of the line it seems? Luckily there wasn’t too much pushing, they handled this way better than presoundcheck. They made sure everyone was walking and staying in place, all the way down and lined us up in this U shaped fence and we ended up on the right side front row ajsfkldsjafklsdajfdsa!!!!!

There was a total of 2 rows, about ~200 people.  Waited about 10 minutes? And then Godbae came down and everyone was cheering!!He actually went onto the left side first and with how slow he was going…. omg no one was trying to push or shove cameras or hands in his face because we realized he would get-to-every-person.

GUYS, HE IS SO CUTE 😭😭😭😭He let everyone in the front row (and some on the second) get a selfie with him. Now that I’ve seen a couple of other send offs, he’s gotten to interact longer with some fans and accept gifts and whatnot but it wasn’t our case here for some :( I saw someone with letters before me and they got taken by the guard vs getting to give it to YB personally, one even dropped her letter and YB picked it up, gave it back to her and she tried to give it back but the guard ended up taking it T_T

I was no different…  😭😢😭😢 If you guys remember the letter I made… Ahh I was so focused on tell him about my letter and if he had time to read it but the guard took it and then I drew a blank when he was right infront of me!!!!!!!! I accidentally photobombed my concert buddy’s picture- I felt SO bad but she said she didn’t mind 😣

Um. I don’t even know where to begin describing meeting him… so here you go!

A post shared by @mycomplexes on Sep 11, 2017 at 10:28pm PDT

HE TOUCHED MY HAND AND GRABBED MY PHONE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
(I have video evidence! One of the line ladies I met filmed me! lmao ><)

Since I didn’t have the letter I didn’t have anything else prepared to say so all I said was Hi and thank you a bunch and he said thank you and I said thank you agian jfskladfjkasdl what the fuck Sam!!! Point out your letter that the guard had and maybe you could have shown him!!! Shout VIP until whenever! Ask him to comeback with all of Bigbang! Wish him well with the rest of his tour! Tell him that we’ll support and wait for them always! Tell him to tell TOP that we love him and we will wait for him! Actually, my concert buddy actually ended up telling YB that if you heard in the video… My stupid ass didn’t record it but YB said, “Yes, sure” and as he was about to focus onto the next fan he turns back and said “He will be back!”  😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 AHH I hate myself for not recording it!!!

I basically moved out of the way after that because I needed to breathe like holy fuck~ I JUST TALKED TO YOUNGBAEEEEEEEEEEEFJKLSDJFA I ended up trying to film the end of his send off, he went back to this family and he picked up the little boy!!! SOO CUTE. We all screamed and he was waving, and then he took out his phone and recorded us!! Excuse my dumb self…

I added all the times of the footage and it was a 20-25 minute send off guys. It was wonderful to be able to experience it. And I felt so incredibly lucky to end up with the opportunity to. I have to thank all the people I met that day.

When Asked to Make a Point, I Tend to Whisper

Just some quick Minty fluff for @madgesundersee! Also on AO3.

Nate would not say he identifies as a caretaker. It’s not like he’s bad at it, but he doesn’t think it comes naturally to him. He has to work for it.

Part of that is Bellamy’s fault. After all, when your best friend is basically the ultimate mother hen/parent friend, and his girlfriend worries about things on a semi-professional level, it’s hard to feel as if you’re really necessary for the whole process. Like cooking for yourself when your roommate is a five-star chef who’s happy to share–sure he could help out in a crisis situation, but it’s a lot easier to just let Bellamy and Clarke tell him what to do.

But now Monty is sick. And he’s the kind of sick where Bellamy and Clarke aren’t going to go over to his apartment to babysit him, because they (thankfully) still have some sense of boundaries, which means that Monty is alone, and sick, and kind of miserable, and Nate’s not really willing to let him do that alone.

Overall, it’s a terrible situation and Nate wishes none of them were in it. But they are, so he’s going to do his fucking best.

“Are you dying?” is Bellamy’s greeting when he picks up the phone.

“Why would I be dying?” Nate grumbles. “I’m at CVS.”

“You’ve never called me,” says Bellamy. “Like, ever. In our entire lives. I honestly thought this was a butt dial.”

“That’s how you answer butt dials? Are you dying?”

“Better safe than sorry. Seriously, why are you calling? What are you doing in CVS?”

Nate exhales, counts to five in his head, and admits, “I’m making a care package for Monty. What should I get?”

ghost quartet - nytw next door - october 8, 2017

H'okay, so, this may all be a little blurry around the edges because the circumstances in which I traveled to and from New York on Sunday were not ideal and the anxiety around them muted parts of my brain more than I would have liked. BUT. Here we are.

First of all, it was humid as dicks and the house manager was very kind and let us inside the air conditioned lobby like, twenty minutes early, bless him.

Obviously “sixty-five seat black box theatre” implies that the space is small, but…man, the space is small. That was excellent, really–it added to the intimacy of the show–but it was still weird to walk into a space the size of my living room and dining room combined and have that be all. We sat in the section next to the door and, as I implied yesterday, I was directly behind Brent. If I could do it again, I probably would have sat in either of the other sections, just because that meant I really only saw Brent during “Fathers and Sons,” but the place is so tiny it really hardly mattered. And, speaking of tininess/hardly mattering, the reserved seats were just the first row of each section and definitely not worth the additional thirty bucks, imo. This run is over, but if you’re going to another Next Door performance that does a similar seating style, just…fyi.

The set dressing is great. It would have been cool if the seating was a little more informal, but it still felt like you were hanging out in your friends’ basement, listening to them tell you an elaborate story. There were neat little touches around all of their stations–there was a little bear and a little pot of honey on the table next to Brent, as well as a mason jar, which I initially took to be a reference to his verse in “Four Friends,” but it turns out Brent just takes water in his whiskey. (I mean, it might have ALSO been a nod to that, but it also served a practical purpose.)

I had listened to the music a few times last spring and a few times in August and a few times this month, in preparation, so I was familiar with the story and the songs, but seeing it live definitely adds another dimension. There were certain bits of staging that were surprises to me, and certain bits of staging that made things that pop up on the McKittrick recording make a lot more sense, heh.

Anyway, I’m gonna do this old school.

Proudly presenting the in-game phone for Operation: Future Domination! There are five apps on the phone: messaging, GPS, notes, music player, and quiz. The messaging app has live chat, and some NPCs might take their sweet time answering your texts. The GPS allows you some agency to choose where you want to spend your time. Planned a meeting with someone? Make sure to be at the right place at the right time! Or stand them up; it’s your choice. The notes app records what you’ve done that day and any insight you might have gathered. It’ll come in handy on your investigations. The music player enables you to change the background music to your liking while you fiddle around on the phone. The Food for Thought app offers daily quizzes and questionnaires that delve deeper into the themes of the plot and even give hints.

The phone is a crucial part of the gameplay in OFD. The fonts and placement of the apps and windows may change in the future, and I will likely add sound effects, but the overall set-up of the phone is pretty much complete. Hope you like it, and stay tuned for news of the upcoming demo!
