Long chaptered fics with delicious slow burn and world building.

Fics over 50k words.

Just before the events of Iron Man, a baby is left on Tony’s doorstep. He wants nothing to do with it at first, but his time in Afghanistan changes his mind and Tony vows to become a better man for his son’s sake.

Six years ago, without the Avengers Initiative there to save the day, scientist Dr. Eric Selvig sacrificed himself to save the world, the almighty demi-god Thor was lost to a terrible storm, and vigilante Iron Man – spotted with a nuclear weapon trying to take advantage of the situation – was forever labelled an enemy of SHIELD.

This is a comic book office AU, where Steve is defrosted a year too late, Thor has forgotten who he is, and no one knows Tony is Iron Man.

Also includes: office pranks, inappropriate post-it notes, and superheroes who like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain

Steven Rogers never wanted to be king, but he knows his duty, and he does it well. Lord Tony Stark, the king’s appointed consort, does his duty as well, even though he’d enjoy his duty more if it actually involved sleeping with the king. As it doesn’t, he’s just resigned. The war that made Steve king and cost him nearly everything may be over, but a meeting of old enemies might stir up some ghosts none of them are prepared for.

Steve Rogers has plenty of friends. He just doesn’t know two of them are the same man.

That’s just how Tony Stark/Iron Man likes it. Until he comes to regret it.

And Tony realizes that working out who the Winter Soldier used to be and who he is now are two entirely different things.

Soulmates have their first words to each other written on their wrists. This should make it easy. For Steve and Tony, it is anything but. Steve’s problem is that the future he has awoken into is nothing he was ever expecting: he has a soulmate now. Who might be a robot. And if his soulmate is Iron Man, how can he be so attracted to Tony Stark? It should be impossible. Tony’s problem is that he is Iron Man, his soulmate is a man whom he in no way deserves, and he is going to fight everything in his heart and do his best to make sure Steve never, ever finds out the whole truth.

A visit from a Reed Richards from a parallel world convinces Tony and Steve that they must do whatever they can to prevent their world from falling into Civil War. They can save the world…but at what cost to themselves?

After a tragic accident, Steve is given a chance to go back in time and deliver a warning to Tony in the hope of avoiding their fate. Something’s gone wrong, though, because this is not his world he’s ended up in. And that is definitely not his Tony who’s planning to delete his own brain.

Sometimes your second chance isn’t at all what you were expecting.

Where Steve doesn’t quite die, ends up stranded in the multiverse and would quite like to know how the hell so many versions of himself ended up sleeping with Tony Stark. Well, that’s going to make things a tad awkward when he gets home.

Age of Ultron-based, but not entirely canon compliant. Written for the 2013 Cap-Iron Man Reverse Big Bang. Ultron has attacked, obliterating most of the world’s superheroes and resistance in a matter of hours. The remaining heroes band together and share what strength they have to get through it, to survive, and defeat Ultron once and for all. Steve Rogers grieves in the wake of the disaster and the heroes’ defeat, and no one knows if he will be able to provide the leadership they need–but Tony Stark isn’t about to let him slip away that easily.

When Tony and Steve’s son from the future, Jake Jensen, arrives at Avenger’s Tower, the two of them are forced to confront some hard truths: Tony that he might not actually become a horrible father, and Steve that he might not be able to set aside his discomfort with sharing a child with another man. When they both get a second chance at a first try at fatherhood, it’s up to the two of them to learn from their own future’s past.

Tony Stark spent his childhood making weapons, filling the hole his father left in the world when he succumbed to alcohol, grief, and his own demons. At the age of fifteen, he ran away from home, and made it as far as MIT before all of his responsibilities caught up to him. Now seventeen, he just wants to finish his degree and escape from everything connected to the Stark name.

Steve Rogers crashed into the icy North Atlantic in the 1940’s, sacrificing himself to save the world. He never expected to wake up, and now that he has, he’s not sure he’s glad. The US Army has other plans for him, but for now, Steve is slowly learning to live life in the 21st century, and taking classes at Boston College. He’s beginning to suspect that there is no escape.

Boston College is on the T’s Green Line. MIT is on the Red. The two lines meet at the Park Street Station, and so will Steve and Tony.

Tony goes to see Wanda, and suddenly Steve is alive and there are Skrulls! Or maybe Tony is just going crazy. Nothing happens in this fic, until the very end. Seriously. There’s a lot of talking, mostly at inopportune moments, Tony’s views on the acceptable gifts to give people are slightly different from everyone else’s and he spends more time than would seem necessary being (half-)naked. What else is new?

When Captain Steve Rogers wakes from an injury-induced coma, a lot has changed in the battle against the Kaiju. There are new Jaegers with new pilots, new advances in the study of the beasts, even new rules in the Shatterdome. It’s starting to seem like they’re finally ready to defeat the monsters once and for all, but first Steve must learn to get along with his new team of pilots. Especially the troublesome Tony Stark, who’s proving to be harder to deal with than the Kaiju problem itself.

A story of recovery. In a world without superheroes, Tony Stark, the disinherited son of a billionaire, goes to Afghanistan as an embedded media star, only to be held hostage for months until he’s rescued. During his recovery, his therapist Doctor Bruce Banner prescribes an unusual treatment; volunteer work at a rehab center. He meets an eclectic assembled group including a vet who thinks he’s Thor, a physical therapist who might be a spy, and an all American hero, Steve Rogers. It is Steve Rogers, the soldier in a coma, who captures his interest and, eventually, his heart.

Fics over 100k words

A series rewriting MCU verse, beginning with an alternate version of Iron Man 2, in which, instead of Natasha, Steve got assigned to help Tony while the genius was slowly dying of Palladium poisoning. Continues there in unfolding Steve’s and Tony’s journey through acceptance, trust, and eventually love.

Steve takes things like personal responsibility and respect seriously. Tony’s got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he’s pretty sure that he’s going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy’s still a little spotty about what is ‘clean’ enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick. And some things shouldn’t be a chore.

Tony Stark is Iron Man.

Before that, he was an man with bigger heart than brain. Before that, he was an asshole with a bigger mouth than sense. And before that, he was was a scared little boy. Not that it matters. Stark’s always have had iron in their backbone.

Tony has been held by Stane since his escape from Afghani terrorists, marked dead in the eyes of the world while Stane is free to use his mind, inventions, and company as he sees fit. Tony feels there’s nothing he can do and has resigned himself to death to save those he loves. That would be when JARVIS lets Captain America stumble into his old lab.

Steve has been wandering Avengers Mansion in the steps of a ghost, seeing empty spaces, and recurring oddities that mean nothing to anyone but him. He doesn’t know who left them, or why the ghost lingers. It isn’t even until he enters a dusty lab that things start to fall into place as he meets Anthony, a computer program named for its creator Anthony Stark.

There were days when the realization that he was someone’s father made Steve’s head hurt, but mostly he was grateful that he could trust his instincts, because apparently Peter was what had been missing from his life. Yes, he still had lingering, unresolved issues from his time in the Army, and sure, he had what Bucky annoyingly referred to as a criminally untapped ass, and no life outside of work and Peter, but Steve was okay with how his life had turned out because of trusting his instincts.

Unfortunately, those same instincts had straight up betrayed him by going absolutely haywire upon being exposed to Tony Stark.

Tony is a King with a surprising number of people out to kill him. Steve and the rest of the Avengers are fighting for Pierce’s rebellion and end up with Tony as their prisoner. Oops.

Basically one of those bodice-ripping romance novels I don’t read (ahem) but with far more gay.

A story of revolution.Captain Steve Rogers is just trying to pay off his debt to SHIELD, carting cargo from the Rim worlds to the Inner Belts in his bucket of bolts ship, the Howling Commando. He keeps a low profile and makes sure his crew is safe and happy. But the universe has a different plan for the once highly decorated Captain of the Honor Guard. The universe drops a Courtesan by the name of Tony Stark into his life. The Captain doesn’t like it, but Bucky convinces him that providing transport to the most elusive Courtesan in the Guild could be their ticket to freedom. His crew from the engineer with anger management issues to the pilot who may be a beautiful but deadly assassin wants him to take the commission. What ends up being a simple commission puts his crew in jeopardy and could change all of humanity, because the Courtesan is not really just a pretty face and the Captain of the Honor Guard can fall in love far too easily with a man of conviction - and Tony Stark is a man of conviction.

  • Newborn series by Ilerre | M | 109k | infidelity, body modification, read all warnings

It all started when they stopped trusting each other.

“Billionaire, genius, engineer, philanthropist, submissive.  Yeah, submissive.  Any questions?”

Yet another BDSM-AU.

So Jarvis is the one who pulls her up onto her feet, presses a tool into one hand and a book into the other and tells her to create. Tells her that if the numbers and the shapes and images in her mind hurt so bad then she should build them, should give them form so that they can finally leave her alone.

Jarvis is the one who finally teaches her how to breathe.

Toni Stark grows up with the tale of Icarus swirling in the back of her mind. Instead of taking it as a precautionary tale about hubris and overreaching she decides it’s more about the limitations of wax.

Years later when she builds herself wings of her own she makes sure to build them out of better material.

He’s The Captain?

This was not good. This was so not good.

There were theories of course, of what The Captain would look like. Most followed the typical Hollywoodesque belief that he was some version of the Godfather, sitting in a dark room with a cigar, commanding his forces with a flick of his wrist. There were even some that even thought that The Captain was not one person, but a whole network of people with eyes and ears everywhere.

The blonde Adonis in front of him was definitely not what Tony was expecting.

Of course, in the end it didn’t matter.

There was a reason no one knew what The Captain looked like.

Because anyone who saw his face never lived to tell the tale.

  • Sins of Omission by Kiyaar | E | 155k - WIP | dark, torture, skrulls (be warned: this hasn’t been updated since 2013)

A Post-Civil War, Pre-Secret Invasion AU where Steve is dead, Tony’s a mess, and everything sucks.

In which Tony deals poorly with Steve’s death, falls off the wagon, sees ghosts, and misses a lot.

Oh, and the Skrulls are about to invade.

When an experiment goes awry, Tony thinks he may have found an answer to his problems and Steve faces something he’s been avoiding for a very long time.

Two men. Two worlds. Life during wartime.

When Tony was a prince and Steve was his manservant, they were young and reckless and hopelessly in love. But an attack on Tony’s life convinces Steve that he can’t protect Tony, so he leaves in the dead of night to train until he can. Ten years later, Steve returns to the kingdom a strong and able knight, but his king is both furious and broken-hearted.

Tony is no stranger to paternity claims from his female conquests, there’s a system in place for them. But when one of the tests actually comes back positive, he makes a rash decision to not tell anyone about it, not even Pepper Potts. All Mary Parker wants is for Tony to spend a little time with their son. Tony has a lot to think about in his life now, how he wants to run his company, how his life is going to change with the arc reactor, and what he’s going to do about his son, Peter. Then, the Avengers Initiative pops up, and in waltzes his childhood hero, and enemy, Captain America.

The adventures of Tony as a mutant; how he learned to accept himself and his subsequent growth into his own. Hijinks ensue.

Happens in a Soulmate Brock/Bucky/Tony AU, but the plot isn’t quite there yet. @susieeslei. You’ll know why.

The target was moving again. With a curse Brock lowered the rifle scope. He wasn’t usually the guy sent out for an assassination, he did have a cover at SHIELD to maintain after all. As it turned out though, the target apparently was high-profile enough that his superiors were willing to risk it.

Why they hadn’t simply deployed the Asset, Brock would never understand. He knew for a fact that the guy was a much more reliable shooter than he was. If he’d been sent after an accountant or even a regular agent who knew too much, Brock wouldn’t have worried too much. He had a knack for killing people, there was no reason to expect this mission to end any different.

If you ignored the fact that he was sent after Tony fucking Stark, the man with a freakish tendency for surviving the impossible Brock had ever seen, that is.

Well, no matter. Everybody’s luck had to run out at some point.

With that Brock readjusted the rifle. It was difficult to do, because even with a clearly marked red carpet area, Tony fucking Stark still managed to walk in dizzying snake lines, duck down unexpectedly to pick up a phone someone dropped and generally make himself a less shootable target.

Actually, that might be the entire point. That or the guy really was as erratic as he often appeared to be on television shows–not that Brock watched them or anything.

Then Stark deemed someone worthy of his attention for longer than a few seconds, though of course he was crouching down again, and even with the help of the scope Brock had difficulties making out who they guy was talking to–a kid, probably. He did have a clear sight on the way Stark threw his head back as he laughed however, appearing genuinely amused.

Finally, finally the man got up again, finally Brock had a clear shot. And a clear sight.

Of Tony fucking Stark. Wearing a self-made flower crown. Smiling so fucking bright it should be counted as a criminal offence.

Brock hesitated.

He didn’t even know why. There was just something about this sight, about the headband adorned with fake daisies that stopped him. An instinctive, involuntary reaction.

By the time he had gotten over the surprise, Stark was already ushered through the entrance by his bodyguard.

Forcing himself to take a deep breath, Brock packed up his equipment and began to formulate a plan in his head. He’d messed up and he had no doubt that there would be consequences. But it was nothing he wouldn’t survive. Besides he hadn’t been caught. There would be other opportunities. It would just take some time to make one.

In the meantime. In the meantime he had some research to do. It was unlikely, of course. The chances were minimal. Negligible. But still. He had to be sure.

It was only his imagination acting up, Brock knew that, but as he climbed off the roof, he could have sworn his left wrist was burning. The words on his left wrist were burning.

It’s a flower crown.

A soulmate au with the reader and poly!hamilsquad (Al, Herc, John, Laf)

The soul mark is a star, and most people get the whole star instantly as they meet their soulmate, but for some reason, when (Name) meets her soulmate, only one spoke fills in…and it’s the same for him, too.

Five-Spoked Star (Laf/Herc/Reader/John/Alex)

Your mother says her star mark, the half star that she had had all her life, suddenly formed another half the second she met your father, and the same went for him. Your best friend, Thomas, swears that his star tingled and he could genuinely feel it forming on his skin the instant he met James. Your other best friend, Aaron, admits that his heart was pounding when he met Theodosia. Eliza promises that she got a fluttering feeling in her stomach the moment she laid eyes on Maria.

If that was the case, why hadn’t your damn star completed fully when you met Alexander Hamilton?

As soon as he walked into the near-enough empty common room, pen in his mouth and piles of books and notebooks encased in his arms, as soon as his gaze locked with yours, as soon as he froze up, hastily placed his writing supplies on an overstuffed armchair and crossed the room to you in mere seconds, work-roughened hands reaching up to cup your face, you felt it. The tingling on your wrist as the black markings pushed their way to the surface, the fluttering feeling in your ribcage, the all-too-loud pounding of your heart. He was familiar, despite you never seeing him before in your life.

In that moment, he kissed you, and although he was a literal stranger, although you had never even laid eyes on him, let alone spoken to him, you let him, kissing back happily because here he is, the guy you’ve been waiting for your whole life! The guy who was made for you!

When he pulled back, intelligent, beautiful eyes shining as he drank in the sight of you like a man dying of thirst, you couldn’t help but smile back.

That is, until you noticed the jet-black star on his wrist was not a star. It was…two triangles. Two kites?

You pulled back fully, frowning, and slowly lowered your gaze to your own wrist. The same for you.

As you looked up unsurely, eyes locking with his, you said your first words to your soulmate.

“Why aren’t our stars stars?”

And he had looked down, examining his star with a furrowed brow and his mouth set in a straight line.

“I…don’t know.” He had said. His voice was higher than you thought.

“Are we broken?” You had whispered, voice coming out cracked because how could we be broken already, we’ve only just found each other and he had swiped his thumb over your cheek, catching the tears already beginning to fall as he let out soft sounds of no, no shh, we’re okay, we’re fine, I love you.

And you had sobbed and clung to him like a lifeboat, like he was your lifeboat, because you’d only just met him, only said two sentences to him and for Christ’s sake you didn’t even know his name but you loved him, he was yours, you were his. You were literally made for each other.

In the months that followed, you moved out of your college dorm - who am I kidding, you hadn’t even set foot in it yet, you met him on your very first day - and into his little, college-funded house in town. It was small, but you were deliriously in love and you didn’t even care what your living conditions were as long as you were together.

The second you moved in together, Alexander began research. Of why your stars only had two points, one for you and one for him.

Google had no answers.

Bing even less.

He Skyped with professors and soulmate scientists, vying for an answer.

It all came up blank.

Until one day, a year after you met.

You had just gone to sleep, curling up in Alexander’s hoodie like it was your comfort blanket.

A blinding light awoke you, and you winced into the lightness as you felt Alexander frantically climb into bed with you, pulling you close and peppering your face with kisses.

“Urg…Alex…its two a.m.” You protested sleepily. “We needta…go to sleep…got classes…”

“I’ve cracked it.” He said urgently, lips trailing down your neck.

“Mmm…what’ve you cracked now, baby…?”

“Our stars.”

That woke you up.

“We’re not broken, (Name)!” His eyes were alight with excitement. “I was reading this article online, and it was about this woman who only had two thirds of a star when she met her soulmate. Her soulmate also only had two thirds.”

“And?” You were fully awake by that point, eyes glittering as he explained the solution.

“She didn’t know why, until she met this other guy at her new job and the rest of her star formed.

You blinked, morning mind fogging over what this meant, until it clicked and your eyes opened wide. “You mean-”

“Two. She had two soulmates, honey.” He held his wrist next to yours and tenderly stroked your mark. “We’ve only got two fifths of a star each, so that means we’ve got three more soulmates to go. Three! That means there’s five of us!”

“Yes, I can do basic maths, baby.” You said wearily. “Five of us? What if your three remaining soulmates are different to mine?  It can happen that someone can have an unrequited soulmate.“ Poor Angelica. Why couldn’t she have been one of your five soulmates, Alex…?

"I…” He paused, pursing his lips. “I don’t know.”

“Well…” You grinned at him. “It’s like before I met you, all over again. Searching for soulmates.”

He laughed. “Sure is.”

You spent literal weeks looking for your remaining soulmates, to no avail.

Each day you came up empty handed, you grew a little more depressed.

One weekend, your best friend Aaron literally dragged you out of bed, grumbling under his breath.

“Enough with this trying to find your soulmates already. I’m going to take you to have coffee, and we can have a heart to heart.”

He took you to the local cafe, buying you a (favourite drink) and sitting you down. You sighed.

“Alright, alright. What therapeutic methods are you going to try on me now?” You asked with a smirk.

Aaron opened his mouth to retort but was cut off by a loud yell.

“If it ain’t the prodigy!” Called a man’s voice, and three handsome men popped up behind Aaron. As soon as they did-

Oh. There it was, the heart pounding, the fluttering, the tingling. Only much, much stronger. You glanced down at your mark, and grinned as you saw the remainder of the black ink pushing its way to the surface. Your star was complete.

You looked up at the three men who were jesting around with a very irritated Aaron, and frowned. You needed to get their attention.

“Excuse me.” You called. The buff one with short, bandana’d hair glanced at you and held his gaze as he realised who you were. “What do you three, my soulmates, think you’re doing with my best friend?"

That caught their attention. The other two fixed their eyes on you and gazed, transfixed.

"Oh shit,” said the freckled one, grinning. “We’ve found one, guys.” He walked towards you, grabbing your hand and raising it to his lips.  "John Laurens, at your service.“

The buff one, the one who noticed you first, walked to John’s side and placed a strong-yet-gentle hand on your shoulder.  "Hercules Mulligan.” He said lowly.

“Don’t be scared of him. He’s a teddy bear.” John smiled up at Hercules, leaning slightly into him.

Et je m'appelle Lafayette.” The last one, with a crazy puff of hair in a bun, came to John’s other side and reached for your free hand.

Aaron looked between the four of you, a slow, steady smile crossing his face. “Should'a seen it coming.”

“Oh!” You gasped, causing your three soulmates to jump. “I have to introduce you to Alexander! He’s…the last puzzle piece.”

“Lead the way.”

Alex was, predictably, clacking away on his laptop when you got back. As you stepped in the front door and saw him, back turned, you could see Lafayette, John and Hercules visibly freeze up. You grinned.

“Alex…” You said, voice sweet as sugar.

“Hmmm?” He let out a vague noise of acknowledgement.

“I have some people you need to meet.”

“Ah, um. Honey, can it wait? I’ve really got to do this paper…”

“Baby, you’ve got two weeks to finish that paper and you’re halfway through already. Take a break." When this gets no response, you sigh. "I found them, Alex. They’re right here.”

“Who are?"

"Our other soulmates.”

Alexander jolts as though your words have pierced him, and spins around in his wheelie chair faster than you can say seven-eight-nine. He gets up as though in a trance, and before you know it you are crushed in a huge, five-way hug.

“Our stars are finished,” He mumbles thickly. “We’re not broken.”

“We’re not.” You agree, sniffling.

The hug is drawn back, and you stand, grinning, between them as they all introduce themselves.

You feel happier than you ever have in your life.

Kinda feel like doing a sequel to this.

I’ll tell you what, if this gets enough reblogs, captioned with something along the lines of ‘Please do a sequel’, I will.

For as far back as human history goes, soulmates have been destined. Two — or more — people, woven together in a tapestry of love, drawn towards each other by the same need that pulls the ocean to the shore, or as strong as how the stars need darkness in order to shine.

Some would say that, like words being written to be read, what was the point of being in love if it was not with your soulmate? What was the point of existing if you had not met your soulmate?

How do you know you’ve met your soulmate? you demanded of your mother one evening as she tucked you into bed, her stories of love and fated lovers meant to send you off to sleep. Instead, they simply heightened your endless curiosity on the subject.

“The flowers,” your mother replied simply, shrugging her shoulders and giving no other explanation.

You did not find out anymore until you were seven, too young and distracted to notice the thin, nobbling vines bearing white flowers when they first appeared at the tip of your index finger, crawling and twisting down the length of it.

When you finally did notice, you rushed to your mother in confusion, demanding an explanation for the sudden, tattoo-like picture that had appeared on your skin, seemingly out of nowhere.

Without telling you much other than to slow down, your mother sat you at her feet, pulling your hand up close to her face for inspection. She traced the flowers with her finger, all the way up to where they stopped, just below the curve of your wrist.

“Do you know what these mean, Y/N?” asked your mother. You shook your head, a frown creasing your forehead. “These are the marks of your soulmate. I’ve told you about soulmates before, haven’t I?”

At that, you nodded. Stories of soulmates, of long-awaited love and fated lovers, had been your favourite ones to hear of. Sometimes, your mother would pull back her sleeve and show you her arms, how her flowers — red in colour, a bright contrast to your white ones — extended until they covered her entire arm. (“I met your father a little late,” she would admit with a chuckle.)

“The flowers will only stop growing once your soulmate has touched them,” your mother told you.

Jughead Jones doesn’t know how the crimson crescents ended up on his palms.

Betty Cooper is clueless when it comes to the messages on her arms.

Soulmate AU where all the little marks and injuries belonging to Betty and Jughead start finding themselves on each other’s skin.

A/N: I’m always a sucker for AUs! Hope you enjoy this!

Chapter i

Jughead Jones is almost done with an incredibly important meeting when it first happens.

Jason Baltimore, the editor of the Long Island Publishing House, is sitting across him, fiddling with a ballpoint pen as he addresses Jughead. They’ve been in this windowless room for about two hours now, and Jughead can’t help but curse whoever designed this building. Hidden away in the streets of Manhattan, this place took an arduous amount of effort to find, and the sort-of dingy exterior almost made Jughead do a one-eighty and turn back. Sure, this is the first publishing house that liked my book, but I’m sure I can find another. He’d thought, but he’d shaken his head and made his way in.

“Mr. Jones, are you listening?”

Jughead’s head snapped up, blue-green eyes meeting brown. “Sorry, yes, it’s just a bit stuffy here.” He said.

“Well, I’m sorry, Mr. Jones, but we’ll have to conduct the rest of our meeting here.” Mr. Baltimore says, visible sweat stains peeking out from under his armpits.

Jughead nodded and fiddled with his watch. “Yeah, that’s okay. I’ll manage.”

“So we’ve got two problems.” The blonde, slightly chubby man, says. “One, your name is Jughead.”

Jughead raises his hands defensively. “So what?”

“You’re going to risk ridiculing yourself. People will end up laughing at your name on the cover instead of noticing the title.”

“Or,” Jughead says, leaning forward, “I’ll take them by surprise. ’The Anatomy of a Murder’ will be all the more unique, considering the fact that its content is so serious.”

Mr. Baltimore mimics his movement, resting his elbows on the desk between them. “At the acquisitions meeting, this issue was brought up, Mr. Jones.”

“So I will convince them.” Jughead Jones was a stubborn man.

Mr. Baltimore wipes away a droplet of sweat. “Let’s say you don’t succeed. Would you, maybe, consider an alternative? I don’t suppose your real name is Jughead.

Oh, no. No way was ‘Forsythe Jones’ going to be put on the cover of his first book; there was a reason he preferred ‘Jughead’ over that ridiculous name. (Ironic, considering the fact the Jughead was pretty ridiculous, too.)

Jughead shakes his head. “Let’s just say my real name is worse.” He eyes the editor in front of him. “It looks fine on paychecks and insurance forms, but not on a novel.”

“Perhaps a pseudonym, then?”

Jughead sets his mouth into a thin line.

“No, then.” Mr. Baltimore says, gauging his reaction. “Mr. Jones, I advise you to think this over, and get back to me on Wednesday.”

He flips open his laptop. “Now, the next issue I want to discuss… well, it’s not an issue, but something I would like you to know…” He turns the laptop face towards Jughead. “You’re twenty two years old. You’re a senior at NYU. Probably the youngest among a huge community of authors.”

Jughead nods. “I’m well aware of that.”

“Mr. Jones, your style is unique, and your writing is brilliant, but generally, books by younger authors don’t tend to be as successful as others, and I hope you’re prepared for such a situation.”

Jughead bites his lip. “I know, Mr. Baltimore. I hardly expected this book to get picked up by a publisher in the first place, and I’m thankful to you, I am. But, I think that the masses will like it. I truly do.”

“I am hopeful, too, Mr. Jones- can I call you Jughead, by the way?”

“I am hopeful too. Just preparing you. Moving on,” Mr. Baltimore says, fanning himself with Jughead’s manuscript. “Oh, for God’s sake- someone get the Air Conditioner working!” He yells after stalking to the door and sticking his head out.

Thank you, Jughead thinks, because he doesn’t feel too comfortable about the fact that his manuscript is now a makeshift fan. Plus, the need for fresh air is only increasing.

“Now,” Mr. Baltimore says, once he’s settled in his chair again, “You need to create accounts on social media, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr and Reddit if you want to discuss theories with your readers, and all the likes.”

Jughead internally groans at the Twitter and Instagram part, but he knows it’s necessary. The Tumblr and Reddit part he’s fine with, though. He’s been on those sites for years now.

“Could I borrow a pen?” Jughead asks. He needs a reminder, and writing on his forearm is a habit he’s had for many years. Once he Mr. Baltimore gives him one, he jots down a sentence onto his pale skin- Remember to succumb to the true giants of social media.

“And finally, Jughead, we’re assigning you an agent. Though you won’t need him as much if your book, well, doesn’t gain popularity, it’s still better to have one at hand. I’m giving you his number, shall I text it to you or will you write it down?”

Jughead’s phone is currently at a repair shop- it’s an iPhone 3, he’s been able to survive with that archaic thing for years now, but finding a store that actually fixed them was a huge task. But his screen had cracked badly, and Jughead has too many notes on it to buy another one without recovering stuff from this one.

“I’ll write it down.” He grabs the pen, once again, and etches the set of numbers Mr. Baltimore dictates to him.

“Well, Jughead, I’ll see you on Wednesday. This meeting was a pleasure, and I’m glad that I’ve decided to publish your book. But, think the name over.”

Jughead smiles, blushing ever so slightly. “Thank you, Mr. Baltimore.”

He grabs his bag and shrugs his leather jacket (courtesy JB) onto his shoulders and stands up. He has a shift at Barnes and Nobles’, and then a paper to write for his film study course, so he needs to hurry.

That’s when it happens. His palm suddenly stings, like it’s been cut, and Jughead winces with surprise. He opens his hands, palms up, looks at them, and sees that they’re bleeding. His fingernails have cut open the skin of his palm, and smears of blood marr the white skin.

In a world where you carry the first words your soulmate will ever say to you on your arm, some people are luckier than others.

If your soulmate’s first words to you are something like “Get your no-maj ass back here, you dirty rat!” it’s fairly easy to find your soulmate. That particular combination is unlikely to come up often in everyday life.

When your words are “Oh… so sorry” it’s a bit of a different story. Tina hears these words almost daily. Once, she’d reacted every time she’d heard them, old enough to know what the scribbled writing on her arm meant. She’d scrutinized every person, but their words hadn’t matched, or they’d simply been wrong, very definitely not hers. Now she doesn’t even react when she hears them, other than with a glare, considering it’s usually after someone’s bumped into her.

Newt never put much stock in his words. “Who are you?” is a very common phrase after all, and worse, it’s the very first thing people ask. He gave up early on finding his soulmate that way. If he finds them, it’ll be because he loves them. Because they attract him on a deep level. He intends his relationship with his soulmate to be built on words and actions far more substantive than “who are you?”

Jacob has dreamed of the voice that would say “you need to sit down, honey,” from the moment he could read what they said. Some days it’s sultry, others, melodic. Usually they have American accents, but while he’s abroad for the war, others creep into his dreams: British, French, Italian. Yet when he gets home, he starts thinking about American ones again—sophisticated, and just a little airy—but they never sound quite right in his head.

Queenie doesn’t worry about her words. “You know how to read minds?” means she’ll probably speak first, and she likes to imagine the words being said with awe. Her soulmate will be kind she thinks, a Pukwudgie like her. Tina needs a fellow Thunderbird—all that adventure—but Queenie wants someone willing to settle down. Adventure is all well and good, but there’s something to be said for routines and homes that smell of fresh strudel.

BLURB: He is the Sun and you are just a lonely planet in orbit.

In this world, when soulmates touch for the first time, they start to cry.

This is the hardest part.

Sitting here, watching them; the thirteen stars who have lit up most of your days for the past few years. Looking back on it now, it simultaneously feels like aeons have past and not a second at all. Time, you have learnt over the years, is relative to the experiences we fill it with and every second spent with these boys – men, now – were a small infinity.

As you wait your turn you remember how they came into your life that day; something like an accident, serendipitous and fateful. Not every moment was happy – there were times when even their smiles and laughter couldn’t protect you from the meanness of the world – but they reminded you constantly that the hard always came with the good so you were never sad for very long. Their determination in turn made you stronger too.

Hard work pays off, right, isn’t that what they say?

You made many friends along the way. Friends who are more than just casual internet acquaintances – friends you have held and laughed with and loved.

Soulmate AU: Soulmates Get Reincarnated with Their Memories Usually Intact

P/N = Previous Life’s Name

The images were usually very fragmented and fuzzy for you but if you focused hard enough and just long enough, you could make them out.

It was the 70s, you were in a hospital bed, and you could see his silhouette. He was tall yet the furthest thing from intimidating, even as he stood over you, saying something. You could never really make out exactly what the words were, but judging by the tone of concern that surrounded them, you could tell that they were words of worry. Maybe even a light scolding. You felt his hands cup your face and his lips pressed to your forehead. If you looked down, you’d see that your leg was in a large cast.

I Caught Fire (In Your Eyes)

Otayuri Week 2017 - DAY SEVEN (Feb 26): Fantasy (fairytale, hero/fairy, soulmates, destiny, royalty)

Summary: Once you meet the person you’re destined to be with for life, and the more you interact with them, your soulmate’s favourite thing about you starts appearing somewhere on your body, as if you were, very slowly, getting a tattoo.

So, after getting reacquainted with Otabek and hearing his thoughts about Yuri’s eyes, it’s a bit of a surprise for him to see his own green orbs getting more and more defined on his chest as they continue to talk during their time in Barcelona.

Warnings: Language.

A/N: The name of this fic is actually the title of a The Used song :)

(I’m melting, I’m melting) In your eyes I lost my place, could stay a while. And I’m melting in your eyes like my first time that I caught fire. Just stay with me, lay with me now.

Yuri had had these… faint black lines on the left side of his chest for forever. He remembered asking his grandpa if he knew if they were some sort of birth mark, but his grandfather only ever told him that he would understand in due time.

And he did, when they finally covered soulmarks at school when he was around thirteen, which was the usual age at which people started getting them. They could apparently be anything that the other person loved about you, appearance or personality wise. It varied even between soulmates themselves, one getting a word and the other getting like a hand drawn neatly in black somewhere on their bodies.

Needless to say he was shocked to find out that these lines were the beginning of his soulmark. How long had he had them? How come he couldn’t remember when he got them?

He felt weird now that he knew what they actually were. He used to scrub them with a towel as he dried himself off after a shower with the littlest bit of care. Now, he barely touched them, afraid that they may fade. He had heard of that, too. There were records, however scarce, of people losing whatever shapeless mark they had on their bodies because they had met their soulmate but hadn’t interacted with them long enough to allow the mark to develop.

Who had he met as a kid and made such a significant impact on this person to bind them together for life? And where was this person now?

He spent hours sometimes trying to reminisce, trying to remember a face that might have stood out as he grew up, but no one ever came to mind.

So, he usually just shrugged and decided to go on with his life. Desperation would get him nowhere. If he was destined to be with this person, they would meet again. That was how it worked, right?

Stony soulmate fic rec list

Here there is a list of soulmate fics that I have enjoyed that feature a Steve Rogers / Tony Stark relationship

You get the first words your soulmate ever tells you

  1. Slipping off the Page into Your Hands by Sineala
    Words: 68149

Soulmates have their first words to each other written on their wrists. This should make it easy. For Steve and Tony, it is anything but. Steve’s problem is that the future he has awoken into is nothing he was ever expecting: he has a soulmate now. Who might be a robot. And if his soulmate is Iron Man, how can he be so attracted to Tony Stark? It should be impossible. Tony’s problem is that he is Iron Man, his soulmate is a man whom he in no way deserves, and he is going to fight everything in his heart and do his best to make sure Steve never , ever finds out the whole truth.
This is one of my favourites, maybe because it also combines soulmates with secret identity, that is also a favourite trope of mine.
  2. Thumb, Index, and Pinky Extended by Eudoxia
    Words: 4848

Tony Stark is twenty-one when he loses his voice. It shouldn’t matter, but in a world where the first words your Soulmate says to you are marked on your skin, it can be pretty damn annoying.
  3. Captain & Mr. Stark by wisia
    Words: 1110

In a world where your soulmates’ first words are etched onto your skin, Tony despairs. Because his words are “Mr. S tark” and everyone calls him that.

    Words: 4184

Howard Stark never had a soulmate. Not one he would ever accept.
  4. Only A Name by fadedlullabyes
    Words: 6428

Tony had grown up with Steve Roger’s name on his wrist. He knew what it meant and as he grew older, resentment set in because there was no way his soul mate was still alive. At sixteen he realizes that he can’t just deal with it anymore and so he builds a laser to remove the name for him.
  5. train wreck on the way to nowhere by SailorChibi
    Words: 10496

You are colorblind till you met your soulmate

  1. Home by america_chavez
    Words: 4446

Tony then promised himself he would find his soulmate, even if it took him 70 years. He didn’t want to turn out like Howard, unhappy and bitter for the rest of his life. He would find the one meant to be with him. He would find home.
  2. Viridian, Azure, Zaffre by nagapdragon
    Words: 1928

Colors are reserved for those who meet their soulmates. Tony Stark’s seen them since the minute they found Steve Rogers in the ice. As for Steve, he’s seen in color since he woke up, but doesn’t know who triggered it, and Tony isn’t sharing.

You get a symbol/physical attribute that matches your soulmate / reacts to you finding your soulmate

  1. Winds (Or Wings) of Change by Mossyrock
    Words: 3333

Legend had it that everyone’s wings were the true outward expression of their soul. It followed that a person’s wings would change colour once they met their soul mate, since their soul was no longer just their own, but one half of an unbreakable set.
Tony doesn’t believe the legends. Until his wings begin to change and he freaks out, because he’s Tony.
  2. To Strike A Match by 51stCenturyFox
    Words: 5191

The marks that appeared on nearly every human one day weren’t very obvious – a pattern resembling the whorl of a fingerprint and almost as unique, on the inner wrist, tinted the color of coal-black ink. Almost as unique, because everyone was supposed to have a match somewhere on earth, and when the match was found, with a solid press of bared wrist to wrist, mark to mark, the pattern disappeared.
  3. Still waiting by Lookawaynothingtoseehere
    Words: 7479

    Everyone has a soulmate, right?
  4. Hiraeth by sabrecmc

  5. I Hear the Winter’s Leaveby thistlethorns Words: 2329

The thing is, Tony genuinely didn’t know he had a soulmate.
  6. Smaller Without You by 27dragons
    Words: 9105

The doctor pulled out the teacher’s chair and sat across from Steve, his hands folded and his face solemn and kindly. “It happens once in a while,” he said. His voice was soft and gentle, and irrationally, it made Steve angry. Such ugly news ought to be delivered in a more fitting tone. “The most likely cause is that your intended mate died before you were born or shortly after they were born, before the bond had time to fully form. It’s called a Type C or a Type–”
Steve wasn’t interested in the terminology. “Is that why I’m… like this?” He gestured down at his frail, sickly body.
“Probably,” the doctor said. “There are some further tests we can give you, down at the hospital, to determine–”
“Why bother?” Steve growled, slumping back in his chair and crossing his arms. “My mate is dead and no one else is going to want me, not like this.” Tears stung his eyes and he blinked them back furiously.
“It’s also possible, though less likely, that you’re a Type A – firstborn of the pairing – but that your mate has simply not yet been born,” the doctor said.
  7. Amor Fati by citsiurtlanu
    Words: 15712

Tony Stark has always known what the words on his wrist are supposed to lead to. What he’s never known is who the words are for. 616 soulmate AU.

    Words: 2121

Soulmates are a rare and cherished thing, a simple touch of hands bringing love that lasts forever. By all the rules of romance, they’re meant to wait for each other and to trust in the vagaries of fate to bring them together.
Tony’s never been good at waiting, and when he has science on his side, who needs fate?

  1. age after age; forever by theappleppielifestyle
    Words: 2137

Steve and Tony are born for the first time as a Prince and his Knight.
The last time they are born, they’re Iron Man and Captain America.

  1. You’re Not Stubborn (Just Impossible) by Wordsplat
    Words: 95156

Steve’s an alpha, Tony’s an omega. Biology should take care of the rest, right? Except, Tony’s not anything like TV taught Steve omegas were–or like anyone else Steve’s ever met, actually–and Steve should really learn to just keep his mouth shut about that. Also, it doesn’t help that Tony’s not too keen on the idea of alphas. Or Steve. Yeah, this bonding thing looked a whole lot easier on TV.

Code Blue (Calum Hood) - Part 2 *

Part 1

Warning: This imagine contains mention of self-harm/suicide, so if that triggers you in any way, please don’t read this.

Calum’s POV; The next morning

Calum couldn’t tell you why he was walking into the hospital – for all he knew, his soulmate lived on the other side of the world – but at least he would know.

He hadn’t gotten any sleep since the night his soulmate’s heart stopped and, to be honest, he wasn’t sure he was going to get any until he found her. He knew she was alive – he could feel it in his finger every time his ring beat in time with her heart – and he just hoped he wouldn’t have to search for very long.

Calum took deep, slow breaths as he approached the front desk, the nurse sitting there looking at him curiously. He was clearly nervous, and she could only assume he knew someone currently admitted there.

“Hi,” he smiled shyly, “This might be a weird question, but… Do you… Do you have anyone here whose heart stopped at 11:42 last night?”

The nurse gave him a confused expression at how oddly specific he was being, but when she looked down at his hands and saw him playing with his ring, she knew why he was asking. She nodded for him to follow her to the side of the desk her computer was on.

“The fourth floor had a code blue last night,” she said softly, essentially letting Calum know that she probably wasn’t supposed to be sharing that information with him. “They were able to bring her back, but she hasn’t woken up yet.”

“C-Can I… Am I allowed to see her?”

Soulmate AUs are typically things where two people know they're soul mates by some fantastical sign when they meet, like being color blind and suddenly seeing in color or they're born with their soulmate's name on their wrist to help them find their lover, just so you know. :) Could be anything sorta like that.

Ohh… I like the ‘eyes’ idea.

How about this! If you meet your soulmate…

Your black eyes…

Gain color?

So in other-words, Amy and Sonic’s eyes are different shades of green, right?

But in Classic era, all eyes were black!

But in Adventure, they were given the design of their green eye color!

So, if you meet your soulmate, both your eyes turn the same color, but one is a darker shade and the other lighter.

This could be fun xD (it kinda works too… cause like, Tails and Zooey both have blue eyes, and Zooey’s are lighter than his, too. So… it could work! lol)

Sonic continued to run through great plains and over chains and zones until finally making it through most of little planet.

However, what he didn’t prepare himself for was when he heard a faint sound from behind him….

Turning around, the second his eyes saw a faint pink, they shifted without his knowing…

Amy stared at the man she knew was to be her destiny. Her heart fluttered with uncontrollable joy!

When she saw his eyes shift, that beating suddenly stilled as the surreal moment became more real.

Her hero… was her soulmate too?

Sonic saw the glint of color in her eyes, and figured that she must have already been in contact with her soulmate beforehand.

He kinda thought to himself, after she had run up to introduce herself, and state how much she loved hearing about his adventures; wanting to meet him in person and thank him for helping so many unfortunate flickies.

She was apparently friends with a lot of them.

He wasn’t used to seeing color in someone’s eyes.

What a beautiful shade of green…

She was cute, but her clingy nature made him a little glad she was already spoken for, and quickly shook the feeling off as nothing more than surprise at a pretty face.

Amy was taken away from her love! Swept up in a blurry of dust and grass as windmill flowers twirled in horror at the gust of ominous wind that came from Metal Sonic’s capture of her.

She saw him running after her, and noticed that those once awe-inspiring pale green eyes shone with so much intensity at running after her.

This passion… could he have fallen for her the second she did as well?

She was always told that her soulmate’s eyes would match hers that would come, and that in that instant, no other living thing would be as beautiful as her mate’s eyes…

Seeing how much focus he gave her eyes… she wondered if he knew they were meant for each other as well~

Saving her was a bit of a pain.

If she wasn’t already taken, he might have actually flirted a bit, but instead just tried to ‘politely as he could’ push her away and not answer her repeated requests for a marriage.

What was wrong with her?

Didn’t she know about her eye change?

He headed home after meeting with the strange girl, and went to bed to rest.

His dreams were full of her, a strange longing to look within her eyes again… he’d never seen a girl before, and he almost pitied himself that the first girl he ever saw had already found a soulmate.

He would have been perfectly fine with her eyes being black.

Then they could have been friends.

He could have kept her… in an odd sense of the word.

His fist clenched a little in his sleep…

His muzzle nuzzled the pillow slightly as his eyes squinted before relaxing more.

In his dream, her vision and face was there. Standing apart from him where they first laid eyes on each other.

Her strange allure brought his vision directly to her emerald green eyes, and suddenly pulled him into a galaxy full of stars within the still remaining blackness of them.

He wondered why he was thinking about her so much.. he just hoped she was okay. Her real ‘hero’ fella taking better care of her.

He couldn’t picture the dude who would hold her, or who would even match her in a complimenting way.

For some reason, his dream was highly against forming an image… he just wanted to study her. The whole dream was basically her. Just floating around her, her image, her eyes… especially her eyes.

But her smile also moved him.. something wanted to be closer but felt awkward to do so.

That morning, Sonic washed his face in a lake, being solitude as he usually was, before seeing something odd in the sky.

He looked up, but saw nothing.

His eyes raised a bit, before looking back down.

He gasped!

Jumping away in a bit of terror, he realized that the green glow…

Was his eyes!

He quickly rushed back to the water’s edge, widening his eyes by pulling them far out and staring as close as he could to the water…

They were….

Bright Green…

Who did he see with darker green eyes…?

He was always told that when you find your soulmate, you keep a careful ‘eye’ on her.

This was because you could see your soulmate at the corner of your eye, have your eyes shift, and never ever find her again.

It had happened to a farmer friend of his, who sighed longingly, but also mentioned he had married another girl who didn’t know her soulmate either. Their eyes were different colors, but they were perfectly happy together. Still, they kinda wished they knew who it was… but wouldn’t change a thing.

Sonic never gave any mind to ‘soulmates’. It made him feel like it was being imposed on him, and he resented anything like that.

He let his eyes go and slowly leaned away from the lake; realizing, as he loomed over the water’s edge, that there was only one girl he had ever saw in his whole life… Besides obviously family.

That girl…

Amy Rose?

Amy hadn’t been able to track down her soulmate after that faithful encounter for years.

But finding a stray birdy, and dropping her groceries at almost being kidnapped, she finally found him again!

Her betrothed! Her beloved!

The second her eyes caught blue, her heart soared as if reunited with an old friend, and she instantly felt like she had never left his side since the first day she saw him!

She felt such a strong power to stay by his side this time, that she was willing to do anything and everything to keep it that way!

Sonic’s heart stopped a beat.

His eyes widened at the girl he had only randomly dreamed about a couple of times, and made him uncomfortable when he woke up in the mornings.

She was here?

After meeting Tails, and having him ask him about it, he had lied and stated he hadn’t known what triggered the coloration.

Tails later had blue eyes, but he never asked so Tails never said anything.

Sooner or later, all his friends were popping up with colored eyes, and it wasn’t a big deal anymore.

Seeing her again, his eyes almost fixated on hers again.

It was like a strange draw like how waves pull you deeper into the ocean with each gentle tug.

But the current was unsettling.

And Sonic’s feet couldn’t help but skirt back, unused to the sensation of the feeling from a ‘soulmate’s stare’.

Apparently, a soulmate’s stare could trigger great emotion into their partner. But this made Sonic uncomfortable, not liking the strange, meant to be soothing and alluring, pull and looked away, shaking his head.

His nerves grew as he fully turned around, flinching a bit back as to not be too close.

He was torn. On one hand, he was glad he hadn’t lost ever seeing her again, and that she was safe and unharmed.

On the other hand, he was terrified of what this could mean!

Did this mean he had to love? Or was being forced to love?

He didn’t understand fully what a ‘soulmate’ really implied, but definitely didn’t want to be hewn down in life from finding his early on!

He dismissed himself, making excuses how she was ‘too weird’ or ‘too cutsy-wutsy’ for his taste.

But every time she spoke.

Every light touch she made.

Anytime his eyes locked with hers…

He would shy away and shiver out the strange sensations.

So this is what a soulmate was like?

Amy’s heart was always wanting to be around him! Always thinking of him, always so drawn to his charms and features.

All she wanted was to continue to get closer!

Everytime she looked in a mirror, she would be reminded by her beautiful jade eyes of how she was meant to be his… and him, hers.

She lightly touched the mirror at where she could see her eyes, and let her fingers trail down lovingly as she wished she could reach for Sonic in the same like manner.

Oh well.

She would say, shrugging and heading off to find him.

She knew that as long as she stayed close, Sonic would be pulled towards her. To protect, comfort, and provide. He couldn’t help it. Soulmates drew out the best of their lovers, and it was almost impossible to fight the instinct of wanting to be close to them.

She was thankful her long time hero was her soulmate! She would have felt torn and even a little betraying if her soulmate was someone besides Sonic.

She even thought about it once,… running away from her soulmate to be with her true love.

She wondered if Sonic fought the power of ‘soulmate’s stare’ and if he was afraid of it’s influences.

But as she wondered that, she would always be reminded of how he loved her smile, how he would pick flowers for her when she was down, or even his gentle remarks when they were alone about a trait he found lovely about her.

He would never fail to turn away from her eyes, but that only made her long to hear what was really in his heart.

How did she make him feel?

Sonic turned away and scratched his nose, remaining distracted.

She had caught up to him and cuddled up by his side, finding him under a pleasant tree just before a full sunrise.

She giggled, a noise that triggered a strange irritation in his eyes, as he wiped them.

They would always want to stare at her!

It was too weird!

They would even water when he fought it, but he concealed it well, folding his arms and just letting her dangle off to the side of him, trying to be intimate, but not so much so as to alert him to her behaviors.

He was used to her constant flirtation, and mostly put up with it because- well, let’s face it.

She was his soulmate.

His being couldn’t deny that. His eyes were living proof of it.

He closed his eyes, having them burn slightly at his protest to even look at her.

The more he looked, the stronger the feelings got, and the less he could rebel and resist them.

He often wondered if it would be so bad…

Well, rarely he ever continued that line of thought.

One glance…

One single gesture…

A touch so light he couldn’t even feel it, and it wouldn’t disturb her either.

He would always shake himself from such imaginings.

And he did so.

Sonic wagged his head out, making a ‘blgrr’ noise with his lips, having his arms up a moment to try and snap him out of it.

Her worried voice sent a jolt up his spine, and he couldn’t help but look down at her.

Her eyes shined more than any grassy field he had ever seen, more beautiful than a green ocean, and more powerfully alluring than any Chaos Emerald he had ever held and gazed into.

His body relaxed.

His arms came over her frame.

His eyelids drooped and he was too exhausted to fight the pull anymore.

“You look a little spooked. Is everything… okay?” she lightly leaned up, looking down at him as she gently loomed over him, still turned on her side.

His eyes just feasted on her green coloring. His heart almost satisfied enough so that he could resist it again soon.

But what if?

Would it really be that bad..?

Amy had always declared her his… could he chance it?

His hand slowly came up, his eyes scanning nothing but her dazzling stare…

“I’m fine.” he looked away.

His hand came down.

Amy tilted her head, innocently.

He placed both hands on his chest, linking them together to give some comfort to his longing wish for touch.

But he wouldn’t do it.

He couldn’t.

He wouldn’t risk losing his freedom…

To such a beautiful trap of natural affection.

(I tried to keep it canon lol xD That means no resolves! Sorry! >///x///< I’m sure he’ll give in sometime in the future, lol xD you can only fight for so long…)

Based on the soulmates au by @haicuties (I believe) of having their first words to each other tattooed on their wrists.

But imagine you had something really simplistic and vague like ‘hey’ tattooed on your wrist and so when ever someone greeted you with hey, you’d reply, wondering if maybe this person was the one, only to then find out that your response was different to their tattoo.
Imagine starting to get really annoyed and so your at a volleyball match one day and this guy walks up to you and says ‘hey’ and you just explode and start yelling 'IM SO SICK OF THE WORD HEY!’ And the guy just stares at you before he bursts out laughing and shows you his wrist and there are the exact words you just screamed at him.

“You know I always wondered why these were in capital letters”

Yo! I was wondering, how would the guys react to the soulmate au where the world is in black and white until they encounter their soulmate? No rush keep on keeping on friend.

It’s a day later than I was hoping to get this written, but it’s here! Part 2 is finished and includes Reinhardt, Zenyatta, Junkrat, Roadhog, and Lucio!

Part 1 is here

- Reinhardt has wondered all his life who is soulmate is

- He looked for you wherever he went, but he never let his search consume his entire life like some people he knew did. He hoped that if you were soulmates then you were of the same mindset

- But if never stopped him from having dreams about meeting you. When he slept you met a thousand different ways but when he woke up he could never remember your face

- He found himself fighting in the Omnic Crisis, watching as soldier after soldier died. The Overwatch Strike Team helped, but Reinhardt’s shield could only stop so many bullets

- He started wondering if you’d know if something happened to you. Some people who hadn’t found their soulmate had reported getting a terrible feeling and knowing that their soulmate had died, but no one knows if it’s fact or not

- The Omnic Crisis ended and he never had that terrible feeling, but he never found you either

- A few years passed and the UN made a new Overwatch, and Jack might have been official face for it, but it was Rein who was the true face of Overwatch. Rein is the one who would go and visit kids in the hospital

- He tends to make these hospital trips in different places around the world after missions. After one such mission and hospital visit he was walking back to the hotel where the team was staying for the night when he heard a noise in a nearby alley

- He goes to investigate and fights some local teens beating up an omnic

- Reinhardt might have fought in the Omnic Crisis but the war is over and he protects everybody now. Have you seen how tall the guy is? You don’t want to fight someone that big especially when you know that he could kick your ass one handed. The teens run before he has to say more than a warning

- He goes over to the omnic “Are you already? Is there any way I can help you?” They ask him to help them up and he does. He offers to escort them wherever they need to go and and they accept

- It’s only after the two of them walk out of the dark alley does he notice that the world is now in color

- He stops, realizing what just happened and turns to the omnic a smile already appearing on his face

- You’re already looking up at him “You just realized? I thought that’s why you offered to escort me”

- He doesn’t know what to say, he’s so happy to finally find you. You’re a little worried that he might be opposed to having an omnic soulmate since he fought in the Crisis, but he doesn’t care

- He calls up Morrison the tell him that he’s taking a few personal days to get to know his soulmate

- The media goes crazy when they find out that one of the original Overwatch members has an omnic soulmate but neither of you care what the press thinks. Everyone in your life accepts Rein and everyone in his accepts you, and most importantly you accept each other

- One of the first questions the omnic monks thought of when they were struggling with the question of if they’re just machines or have a soul was the question of soulmates. Do they have them? If they did that would prove they have a soul but if they don’t that doesn’t prove that they don’t have souls

- But it’s a question the struggle with for a long time, even after they come to the conclusion that they do have souls

- Zenyatta struggles in particular because out of all the monks he has some of the closest contact with humans through Genji and other humans he interacts with.

- He doesn’t know how it would work, he and all other omnics are build with the ability to see the all the colors that humans do after they’ve found their soulmate, and some can see other parts of the light spectrum (Zen can see about ⅕ of the UV light spectrum). And yet some omnics say they have found their soulmate, sometimes another omnic and sometimes a human, but he has heard no word of how they know when they can already can see colors

- Eventually he joins Overwatch because they’re trying to help the world, human and omnic alike. He meets Genji’s soulmate (and the two get along fabulously, Genji almost regents introducing them)

- He’s only been on a few missions when they head to a town that was known for its excellent human/omnic relations. Not anymore, the town is half burst down by an anti-omnic group and there are wounded everywhere

- Zen and Mercy immediately start working on the wounded while Tracer, Genji, and the others make sure that the last members of the gang have gone

- He’s helping one of the injured, they have a hole in their thigh that won’t stop bleeding, when he takes their hand to comfort him while his orb of harmony does it’s work

- The moment he takes their hand he notices a shift in his vision

- The colors look the same as before, except that they don’t. They seem richer and brighter, more pure. He does a quick diagnosis on his visual sensors to see why the change has happened, but they are working the same as they always have

- He glances down at you, and you’re smiling up at him. He knows that smile, he’s seen it a dozen times when other people have found their… their soulmate. He thinks the word and can hardly believe it, he wasn’t even sure he had a soulmate but now you’re right in front of him

- “Hello” you say. You’re not sure what else you can say. You’ve heard stories of omnics and humans who have rejected their soulmate simply because they were an omnic or a human. You’ve not one of those, but you don’t know about this omnic holding your hand

- “Hello” he says back, still holding your hand. The pain in your leg is subsiding, thanks to the little floating ball. “I am Zenyatta. I’m very pleased to meet you”

- Your smile deepens “I’m very pleased to meet you as well, Zenyatta. I’m (name)”

- He keeps helping the other injured, and with your own wound healed you help where you can. After the chaos you find a quiet spot to talk. You end up going back with him to overwatch, you’ve been waiting to long to find your soulmate and you’re not about to let him out of your sight so soon after meeting him. Likewise, he doesn’t want to be far from you, he spent too long wondering if you even existed to leave you behind

- Jamison had only ever known life in the irradiated Outback

- He’s probably heard about soulmates but he doesn’t give his much thought. He’s got other things to think of, like his bombs and how to stay alive in the harsh landscape he lives in

- So the day a heist gets a little complicated and he gets tackled by a cop and the world suddenly bursts into color he doesn’t put the pieces together right away

- He doesn’t know the that you’re equally startled. But you both launch yourself away from each other, and he takes the opportunity to run

- He doesn’t realize what it means until he asks Roadhog, thinking it might be some kind of chemical weapon that’s making him hallucinate

- But Mako recognizes what Jamie is describing, and tells him that he just met his soulmate

- “You must be kidding, mate. It was a cop”

- Mako tells him that fate is funny like that and tends to choose the least likely person

- But from what he saw before the Omnic crisis, he never saw fate choose wrong

- Junkrat isn’t sure what to do with the information that his soulmate is a cop whose job is to arrest him

- Meanwhile, you’re not sure what to do either. Your soulmate is a wanted criminal and you’ve sworn an oath to uphold the law. You tell your superiors that the reason he got away after you tackled him was because he managed to land a blow to your head. Not a blow hard enough to injure you, just enough to make you let go. You’re not sure why you lied to them

- The Australian government has had enough of Junkrat and Roadhog and you’re still part of the team tasked with taking them down

- A couple weeks later your team catches up with them again. It’s just you and him in the alley behind the bank and you have your gun leveled at him. You could arrest him right now. It would mean the admiration of your peers, a promotion at work, and a pay raise to go along with it if you would just arrest him

- Instead you lower your gun and tell him that if he and Roadhog take the road heading east out of town they’lll meet with the least resistance. Before he leaves you ask him to punch you so you don’t make your superiors suspicious of letting him get away twice in a row

- The next thing you know you’re waking up with an EMT leaning over you checking to see if you’re seriously injured

- You also have a note in your coat pocket telling you to be under an abandoned railroad bridge on the opposite side of town in three days. There’s only one person it could be from

- You know it’s probably a bad idea but you go anyways. You can’t find it in yourself to give up on your soulmate without even properly meeting him

- He’s not what you had imagined. For one thing, he can hardly stand still and he’s so obviously nervous to meet you that you can’t help but smile. It only takes you a few minutes to realize that you’re already ready to do anything to protect him and the two of you start plotting

- You don’t leave the police yet, first you spend a couple months secretly sabotaging the investigation and destroying months of work

- Then you join him and Mako when they leave Australia and head to the mainland. It’s not the life you pictured for yourself, but neither is he and you wouldn’t trade your soulmate for anybody

- Mako found his soulmate when he was fairly young. He married them and they planned on starting a family

- But the Omnic Crisis happened and afterwards the Australian government gave part the Outback that contained to omnium to the omnics in the hope of fostering peace

- This included the part where Mako and his spouse lived. So Mako joined the Australian Liberation Front which ultimately resulted in the explosion that irradiated the Outback

- Mako’s spouse died in the resulting chaos and over time he adopted the Roadhog persona and left Mako behind

- He eventually started working for Junkrat and the two started their crime spree

- A couple of years later the two of them were walking through the wilderness when they came upon a small farmhouse outside a nearby town. The farmhouse had a well outside, which you were standing next too

- ”Well, well, well. If it isn’t the infamous Junkrat and Roadhog”  you say. They’re both immediately on alert because you recognize them and that usually means trouble

-Then you offer them some water and dinner and a place to stay the night

- It’s Junkrat who asks why you’d do such a thing

- “I heard about what you did to those ************************************ corporation goons in the city. Anyone who sticks it to the city folk is alright in my book”

- After hearing the very rude way you spoke of the ‘suits’ they decide that maybe you’re being serious, so they decide to take you up on the offer of dinner, but they don’t plan on spending the night. They’re not willing to take that risk

- It’s a simple fare you offer them, but it’s better than they’ve had in awhile (neither are very good cooks)

- After dinner Roadhog remembers what manners are and helps you taking the plates to kitchen. Your hands brush and it’s not a sudden burst of color, but more like they slowing got turned back on, more like the sun rising than a light switch being flipped

- But it still only takes a few seconds before you both are seeing in full color

- “Well this is a surprise” you say. “Didn’t think I’d ever be getting a second one”

- “Me either” is all he says

- You keep doing washing the dishes and he takes them to dry, the feeling of doing something so domestic feeling very foreign to him

- They end up staying the night. You offer to share your bed with Roadhog, and he accepts although nothing happens. It’s a stretch for both of you to be this close, you both have old wounds, and it would only hurt your chances at making this work if you did something on impulse

- He and Jamie stay for another day before on. You tell them to not be strangers and that they’re always welcome

- It only takes a month before they’re back on your doorstep. This time you and Mako talk about it (you even learn his real name). You still proceed with the relationship slowly, and you build trust over time. He shows up every month or two, sometimes with Jamie sometimes without, but he always comes.

- he doesn’t admit but it’s really nice to have a place to always head back to, a place that feels like home. Neither of you think of the other as a replacement for your lost soulmate, but what you have is good and you’ll both take it for as long as you can

- Lucio loves his mother very much but he sometimes wished that she’d stop trying to find his soulmate for him okay he wished it most of the time

- Most of the people she tried were mostly interested in trying because he was famous. Not all of them of course. Some were simply people trying to to find theirs and figured they might as well if he was it. But he never was and they both always walked away disappointed even if they hadn’t thought it likely that he was their soulmate

- But he keeps trying anyways because a) he can’t say no to his mother and b) she might just find them and he’d hate to miss them because he was being stubborn

- So when she calls him up and asks if he can make if for dinner the next night, he knows what’s coming but he says yes anyways

- When you meets you you refuse to shake his hand. “It’s nothing personal but I’m trying to get my mother to stop trying to find my soulmate for me”

- “I know how you feel”

- But since there aren’t many people at the dinner the two of you end up talking. Turns out you get along really well

- Dinner ends when Vishkar agents try and arrest Lucio but the two of you fight them off

- And once he realizes that you’re a really good fighter and that he thinks the two of you would actually be good friends he asks if you’d be interesting in joining his security team

- Actually, you’d be the security team. He hasn’t wanted to get one but he is famous and Vishkar is trying harder and harder to catch him, and if he has to get one it might as well be someone who he gets along with

- You accept

- It takes two months before you actually have physical contact. You punched a bounty hunter that was about to taze Lucio and he hugged you

- The world suddenly got a lot brighter

- You looked at each other, both your eyes wide. But try as you might you found you couldn’t actually mind having him for your soulmate, you were actually really glad he was. You were glad that your soulmate was also -literally- your best friend

- Judging from the smile on Lucio’s face he felt the same way

- “our parents are never going to let us live this down”
