Jupiter: the greater Benefic. The planet that can expand, exemplify, and enlarge. It can also bring abundance and luck. Although depending on the sign, house and aspects regarding Jupiter, a person can have positive, neutral or no luck. The soft aspects (trines, sextiles and conjuncts) will enhance jupiters energy. The hard aspects (squares, inconjuncts and opposites) can make jupiters energy harder to see or manifest.

Since Jupiter and Saturn are the gateway between the personal and interpersonal planets it is important to look at both the sign it resides and the house. If Saturn represents life’s tests and lessons then Jupiter is the guide and teacher out of those lessons.

SIGNS modify planets
PLANETS are the energy of the chart
HOUSES are areas of focus in a chart
ASPECTS interconnect planets and points in a chart

How you best use jupiter is up to you. 🌟

****I use mostly whole signs so check your placidus and whole sign house

JUPITER’S FIRST-HOUSE POTENTIAL: You are your own good luck in that your personality and appearance can see you positively through just about any and everything. Cash in on your all-encompaasing sense of humor and normally-positive attitude and outlook. You have the natural ability to make others feel better while in your presence. You may have a beaming million-dollar smile; don’t neglect using it to help with getting what you want. Others seek you out for your natural adeptness to counsel them on their problems; draw upon your natural intuition. You can get complete answers to rather complex questions from sources beyond your “worldly” practical awareness. You can charge for this gift. You have an inborn ability to accept adversities calmly and positively, since you have an inner awareness that they are only object lessons which are essential and meaningful to your emotional growth.

JUPITER’S SECOND-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Material gain, money, and possessions in abundance are your true “birthright.” You may deal in, work with, and, in time, accumulate large sums of money and other representations of material success. When it comes to getting ahead financially, you have your lucky four-leaf clover ever at hand. You are very much a materialist and should concentrate your major energies on getting ahead first and foremost in a material/financial way. Little spiritual growth may be made until you have gained your worldly fortune. It is most important that you not burden yourself with any feelings of guilt concerning this truth. Feel guilty only if you employ any form of dishonesty in achieving the material rewards which are rightfully yours. Whether it all belongs to you or not, you are destined to handle large amounts of money and deal in other ways with great wealth. Put on your thinking cap and find practical and honest ways to make more of it yours personally.

JUPITER’S THIRD-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Your mind and the ability to communicate well are the keys to realizing your good fortune. Your mental capacity is great in scope; you can be a storehouse of information. This information is knowledge; knowledge is power. The remuneratively-rewarding areas of selling, writing, public speaking, publishing, and broadcasting can open fabulous channels for you in which you can realize your fondest dreams. You may find that it is necessary to be mobile, to move about, to travel shorter distances, and to make changes in order to take advantage of your best luck potential. Be versatile and willing to go along with whatever seems right and best. Your luck will work for you if you will work with it. You cannot realize your true potential if you are an unyielding “stick in the mud.” Read, write, listen, speak, gesture, go, change, modify, rectify; consider the meaningful role brothers and sisters and other family members can play in boosting you to a fuller realization of your ultimate potential.

JUPITER’S FOURTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Luck to you is closely connected with actual security. Above all else, you must first work to assure that you develop a secure base from which to operate; you need to put down firm and secure roots. Once you have done so, you may then work in a certain and relaxed way to add measurably to that basic security. Land and real property hold great promise for you; put all the money and effort you can spare into wise investments in real estate. Your major plan should be to acquire one piece of land and then, as you can, buy adjoining property, etc. Having rental properties can bring you great financial gain as well as an inner joy through ownership. You are fortunate in birth in that your parents may serve as a springboard or guiding hand in your moving forward at a relatively early age. They may enrich you with gifts, money, property, basic intelligence, and love. Most of your good luck is always very close at hand – near home base; or in proximity to your area or place of birth. Your luck works best when you maintain an inner confidence in yourself and your ability to do well.

JUPITER’S FIFTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: You are extremely lucky in that you can get a lot of pleasure and joy just from the routine of living your life day-to-day. So, don’t miss out on a single day – enjoy yourself. Jupiter here expands your creative faculties and offers you personal gratification when you utilize your innovative ideas and talents. You can be lucky with your own children and the offspring of others as well. Your best future may center in the practical application of this native capability. You may excel in sports and in the areas of commerce associated with recreation and entertainment. If you are wise and careful, you may make striking gains through well-thought-out speculation, especially if it involves matters at a distance. (Your hobby should be to enter every give-away contest possible.) You may, if other indicators support, have better-than-average luck with gambling and other games of chance. Also, use your sense of humor and general zest for living as stepping stones to getting the things of life which you desire.

JUPITER’S SIXTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Your fortune may lie in the quantity of service you are capable of giving others in exchange for payment. You are wisest and best advised to sell services as opposed to products. Glowing, abundantly good health may be yours; and when you have good health, there is really no greater fortune. Jupiter placed here offers you the opportunity or ability to turn out an impressive amount of work so you should have little or no reluctance to put forth the amount of effort necessary to accomplish whatever you really want. It has been said that genius is five percent inspiration and ninety-five percent perspiration. Go ahead and let others label you a genius if they want to, even though you know that you accomplish tasks best through honest hard work. Jupiter in the sixth house also causes others to want to serve you; consequently, most of those who work with or for you may, through their willing efforts, aid in speeding you on to great and worthwhile accomplishments.

JUPITER’S SEVENTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Your prospective good luck and your fortune in life are determined importantly by the partnerships you do (or do not) form. These partnerships include marriage, meaningful relationships, business, social, legal, religious, and all others. You could marry into very fortunate circumstances, as you can attract others who will work hard or share generously to your personal advantage. You must not overlook your natural potential for being able to make judgments quickly and accurately. Knowing when the “iron” is hot, sensing the proper time to act, can propel you toward your best fortune. You may also capitalize from a natural legal bent in your mental machinery. Because of this factor, you may be able to handle your interests quite well in contractual dealings and other matters relating to agreements. Almost anything which deals with balance, form, order, color, and symmetry can offer you abundant opportunities for forwarding your luck potential.

JUPITER’S EIGHT-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Your good luck can lie in your desires and your ability to harness and direct their very potent powers. It would not be an unfair or unrealistic matter to make an analogy between desire and what is commonly called prayer. Prayers (often expressing desires) are materialized if one believes and persists in the belief (keeps faith). You will receive your fondest dreams as realities only if you first get a clear mental image of what it is you want. Once you have this in mind, you must fan your desires and intensify them to the point that the accomplishment of that desired goal becomes a part of yourself. With an eighth-house Jupiter, your desire potential is naturally very strong and you generally succeed or fail to the degree that you are able to manipulate this very potent force. Inheritances, and gifts or those things which you did not have to work for in a literal sense may figure importantly in your good fortune. Dutifully cultivate good relations with all those who could benefit you in these areas.

JUPITER’S NINTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Thank your “lucky stars” for an inborn capability to get answers and guidance “out of the blue,” intuitively. Your higher levels of consciousness and intellect can aid you markedly in reaping great rewards materially and in enhancing your good-luck potential. Jupiter is especially well-placed in this sector since it is natural ruler of the ninth house. Institutions of higher learning, those in positions of authority (judges, professors, spiritual leaders, and gifted advisers) can help you toward realizing your greater fortunes in life. Don’t overlook the ability for utilizing your potentially-positive philosophy toward yourself and life in general. The word “distance” may be a key to your success. Your fortune is most likely to be at a distance from your place of birth (another city, state, or country), or it may deal directly or indirectly with long-distance travel and communications, or import and export. Gains through higher learning, college degrees, and published writings are strongly accented.

JUPITER’S TENTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: You can bask in the sunshine of recognition through your natural ability to gain attention and receive the favorable notice and approval of others. You can often cash in on fame and your marketable reputation. You may be lucky in getting free publicity, so make it a point to circulate and frequent places or events where random favorable notice might come your way. You can be extremely fortunate in selecting the right career or professional area. Rapid promotion and advancement are your natural “birthright.” Seek work or career areas in which there is room at the top, for you are likely destined to be there – especially if you play your cards at all wisely. You can easily receive the nod from those in positions of power and importance, especially in the world of business and commerce. Because of your ability to gain notice and command mass appeal, the wide world of entertainment may offer you many opportunities for growth and luck.

JUPITER’S ELEVENTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Your best luck may come through your friendly nature, your friends, and your usual bright optimism and positive regard for yourself and others generally. Be wise in your selection of friends; choose those who can either pull you up or give you a needed shove from beneath. Hopes and wishes are important to you, but remember that they can be rather fleeting in nature. You will realize more of them when you intensify and refine them to the level of desire. Capitalize on your ability to make friends quickly, and your natural talent to cause those friends to maintain a consistently-high regard for you. With this placement of Jupiter, it is valid to state that generally you succeed or fail through your friends – either directly or indirectly. Don’t ever be reluctant to think big. If at any time you should feel that you personally lack a particular talent or ability, don’t forget that friend who does possess this ability. You can never afford to overlook the inherent good-luck potential available through your friends and your circle of acquaintances.

JUPITER’S TWELFTH-HOUSE POTENTIAL: Good fortune for you may lie in secret, out-of-the-way or hidden places. Much of your luck is manifested quietly and unobtrusively. Hidden resources and reserves may contain the ore of your greater fortune. Of all the house placements, this may seem the least promising; but this is apparent only. The reason it seems so is that good luck (Jupiter) may not announce itself as obviously or easily or loudly if concealed here. If you have this placement of Jupiter, your firm inner motivation and belief must be that you have to persist with faith and patience until you are able to comprehend your good fortune’s soft whispers. For you, there is “gold in them hills”; but you will have to prospect faithfully for it. Patience is necessary; but the lode is very rich, as you will in time discover if you persist. Another very valuable asset of this placement is that it enables you to be quite successful in keeping covered up just about anything concerning yourself which you do not wish others to know about – for whatever reason.

the Basics of Cognitive Functions

So if you’ve been wandering around what I call the “MBTI fandom,” you’ve probably seen numerous posts talking about something called cognitive functions. And you’re like, “learning the order of the letters is hard enough, and now there’s SUBCATEGORIES!?!?”

And this is where the real magic of this thing called “Myers-Briggs” comes into play. Sure, the descriptions you read on were great, but what really makes your type accurate is what’s behind those 4 little letters. Which is…four more letters.

Here is a list of all of the cognitive functions–and don’t be too daunted by them!! You’ll understand them with time.

ESTP: Se > Ti > Fe > Ni
ISTP: Ti > Se > Ni > Fe
ESFP: Se > Fi > Te > Ni
ISFP: Fi > Se > Ni > Te
ENTP: Ne > Ti > Fe > Si
INTP: Ti > Ne > Si > Fe
ENFP: Ne > Fi > Te > Se
INFP: Fi > Ne > Si > Te
ESFJ: Fe > Si > Ne > Ti
ISFJ: Si > Fe > Ti > Ne
ESTJ: Te > Si > Ne > Fi
ISTJ: Si > Te > Fi > Ne
ENFJ: Fe > Ni > Se > Ti
INFJ: Ni > Fe > Ti > Se
ENTJ: Te > Ni > Se > Fi
INTJ: Ni > Te > Fi > Se

And there you have it. Find your type in there and see what it looks like. I’ll explain each one of your functions down below. But what you need to do is follow this order: Dominant > Auxiliary > Tertiary > Inferior
And what that means is first > second > third > fourth. For example, if you’re an INFP (Fi > Ne > Si > Te), the dominant function is Fi, the auxiliary function is Ne, and so on.
Read about your functions in their proper order to understand what they mean for you.

Heyy!! Could you rec me some long Ziam fics?? Thanks yore the bestest!!

Ooh, girl, you know I got you. I’ve actually been wanting to corral all of the long Ziam fics anyway.

It’s always hard to decide what not to rec, so I just went with fics worded 69k+ (and a few I couldn’t leave off). The order is mostly random with my personal favorites up top and incomplete works at the bottom.

Disclaimer: Make sure to check all tags and warnings on fics. If you’re not sure about one or want to discuss it, feel free to message me (:

**UPDATE 05.21.17: Newly added fics have two astrics in front.

Run For The Woods Now series (149,370) by jmcats:
+ Run For the Woods Now (62,075 | E)
Zayn knows some of the best and worst moments start with one of Louis’ ideas. Still, it’s almost as if everyone knew where this, his life, was going when Harry and Liam moved into Wagner’s old flat, with that stupid plant sitting in the doorway, and too many cigarettes and Justin Timberlake for any of this to have been one of those classically clichéd love stories.
And Zayn doesn’t do clichés. Not until Liam, that is

+ We Lie Awake At Night (14,008 | E)
His life, the one with his friends, with his son, with Liam, still feels a little too incredible to be true. But if it is, he’ll never let himself become content with it. Nothing this amazing should ever become routine.
+ Home in the Stars (12,556 | M)
It’s the kind of love story that started with Louis’ insane plans, a ridiculous plant, new neighbors, and a boy with warm brown eyes, round cheeks and promises to be there when Zayn was ready. He doesn’t know how to explain it, but maybe he will be able to tell their son Safi one day how he decided to stop running and fell for Liam… One day, he will.
+ I’ve Waited for This (60,731 | E)
One day, he’ll thank Louis Tomlinson for this: Liam still loves the smell of cigarettes on Zayn’s skin, the sound of Justin Timberlake when their fingers touch, the way Safi finds his own spot on their bed, the way there’s always pieces of skin touching just to keep them connected.
The way all of this started with a stupid, completely mental idea from Louis Tomlinson.
(Or the one where Zayn and Liam get married and Zayn’s finally ready)

hello kisses sweet as wine (123,892 | E) by xxcaribbean (roseaque):
not everyone is brave enough to go after the things they want. too much judgment and little respect creates nothing but fear; yet zayn’s always pursued what he’s felt regardless of those hang ups, and there’s not a day that goes by that he doesn’t regret any of his choices.
now, though, his decisions go a little beyond the spectrum of what people might consider normal, but zayn swears he did it out of love for himself and for his family. but mostly, it’s for his insatiable need to feel steadiness for once in his life.
zayn doesn’t expect mr. payne to have all the answers, and he certainly hadn’t meant to leave an impression.
so, this isn’t really a love story. well, it shouldn’t be.

**The Killing Type (130,453 | E) by protagonist_m (protagonist-m):
Liam breathes hotly through his nose, eyes twitching shut as he squeezes a bit more on Zayn’s neck. “Do you know how dangerous what you’re doing is?”
Zayn draws in his own ragged breath. “Do you?”
Zayn is a doctoral student who goes to great lengths to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Liam is heading the biggest serial murder investigation London has seen in half a century. And before this, he’d never been sent a love note via corpse.

vanilla sweet universe (78,004 | E) by xxcaribbean (roseaque):
vanilla sweet
despite the fact that zayn’s an alpha, liam gives him a chance to prove himself worthy of the omega’s affections.
always love
zayn likes to make sure liam’s well taken care of before his heat hits, but even then, they don’t expect it to happen early.
sugar rush, candy crush
being a male omega was normal, but frowned upon. liam knew that. he also knew that zayn didn’t care. however, it seems like things are out of his hands when he discovers that the treatment from his past might cause a rift in his future with zayn.
honeysuckle lazy
there’s the trouble of liam being away from kiya for the first time, to zayn not planning a successful night out (until he does), and then on top of that, there’s the fact that there’s some stuff that neither of them had intended on admitting. but either way, it’s for the good of their relationship; really, it is.

Knowing, Forgetting, Forgiving, and Believing series (118,212) by SoftlyandSwiftly (softlyandswiftlyao3):
+ Just Let Me Know (72,711 | E)
Zayn wakes up in a hospital, eyes blurry and head pounding, only for a doctor to tell him he’s lost two years of his life. And if that’s not awful enough, something’s different with Liam, off like something has changed, and Zayn doesn’t understand.
Until he does.
And then it’s somehow worse.
+ I’m Letting You Know (45,501 | E)
Liam’s POV of Just Let Me Know.
Liam’s world shattered two years ago, and he hasn’t been able to piece it back together since. When Zayn forgets everything from the past two years, Liam thinks he truly will never be alright again.
But maybe Zayn can fix that.

start again at your beginnings (115,852 | M) by postitbandit:
When they first meet, Zayn is a warrior in his mother’s clan and Liam is a conquered villager.Liam has an unhappy past and just a few things that he holds dear. Zayn would like nothing more than to learn about that past and welcome Liam into his clan, and into his life, but Liam does not seem keen on sharing anything with Zayn.
At least at first.

**Pride (86,961 | E) by iwanttowriteyouafic (iwanttowriteyouafic):
“What if you guys were to come to some sort of arrangement?” Niall said. “Just a strictly, er, business-only deal, where you’d help each other out. You’re not close enough that it’d be weird, but you’re not strangers, either, so you know he won’t take advantage of you.”
“This is a really weird conversation,” Zayn told him. “I hope you know that”
(Or the one where Zayn and Liam strike a deal to help each other through their dirtiest nights, but Zayn’s perception of alphas may be preventing him from something purer.)

**A Pirate’s Love for me (104,415 | E) by rorz94:
In the early 19th century, The two most prestigious packs of London, the Paynes and Maliks hate each other guts. So The Alpha king, who was mostly a peaceful man decided to have an end to this feud by tying an Alpha with an omega of the other pack. Once this agreement achieved the couple would get a tempting prize, but would the two families allow the chosen couple to have some peace?

Found a Demon (In My Safest Haven) (152,509 | E) by ohioinmymind:
Barely escaping tragedy as children, Zayn and Liam grow up unconventionally with their share of monsters hiding in the shadows. When Liam starts asking more questions than he should, Zayn tries to stop him, but in many ways it’s too late. Liam spends his time chasing secrets and trying to uncover the truth, and all Zayn wants to chase is Liam. Because Zayn doesn’t need to go looking for trouble, it usually just finds him on its own.

Mirrors (89,882 | E) by ohioinmymind:
Liam and Louis are a couple of rich kids, with no care in the world. Zayn doesn’t care about anything but skating and Liam. Harry wants Louis to see him for what he really is; a good guy. And Niall just wishes they would all get their shit together.

this is interlude (85,223 | E) by xxcaribbean (roseaque):
liam figured a gunshot wound, a mysterious stranger, and a clear sign of betrayal was enough excitement to last a lifetime. however, in the process of it all, he didn’t take into account the fact that what he thought he knew would be challenged, provoked, and possibly crushed, all because of a little four letter word that shouldn’t have even crossed his mind.

Up-and-coming journalist Zayn Malik - in hopes of later being allowed to cover more substantial stories - takes on an assignment by which he must pull a guy and then push him away in ten days.

Lost For Words (102,090 | NR) by AGreatPerhaps12:
Zayn was so stunning and so consistently kind to Liam that his stupid heart had the annoying habit of practically vibrating in his chest whenever they were together. Liam wasn’t deep enough in denial not to know what that meant anymore, but he was still forcing the feeling down as vehemently as possible. It was difficult, though, when Zayn turned to Liam with that smile and said his name like he was worth time and attention, and all the while in the back of his mind there was this chant of—
Get the fuck out of my house. I’m not having a fag for a son. I want you and your shit gone by the time I get back.
—Yeah. That.”
Or: The one where Liam has a stutter and zero self confidence, and Zayn has a carefully controlled temper (also starring Louis and Harry as that disgustingly-in-love couple and Niall as the only straight guy around, apparently).

not yet awake (79,434 | E) by jmcats:
Liam doesn’t know this world. He feels out of place and he doesn’t trust anyone. All he knows is flashbacks of a life he doesn’t know anymore and all he hears is ‘thank you Captain Britain’ but Liam is not a hero. He’s a solider.
He has one mission for SHIELD: keep Zayn Malik safe. Unfortunately, he hates this cocky, arrogant, manic boy who wears suits and has iron where his heart should be.
(Re: SHIELD wants to protect Malik Industries and Liam has been avoiding the Avengers Initiative for months now… until he has no choice but to trust someone)

Kids that I Once Knew (78,185 | E) by jmcats:
Zayn longs for home – Bradford; not this small town that’s nothing but University and football and a hospital his mum forces him to volunteer at. But there’s something about this place – or the boy with the buzz cut and soft eyes and Liam Payne is nothing like Bradford. Zayn hates that, slowly, he’s kind of in love with that.

‘He’s not getting attached, he swears. There’s no point.’
(Re: Zayn’s life in London is about one thing — making life perfect for his son. He’s still finding himself in this city, with all of the noise and left behind dreams. He needs to focus and Liam is, well, distracting. He’s different. Zayn’s always liked that word.)

like a wall of stars (64,901 | E) by jmcats:
somewhere between summer training camp and his last season of footie, Liam manages to: find his place in the world, find his confidence, build a bond between this misfit group of teammates he calls brothers, figure out the meaning of the word captain, watch his best mates (unexpectedly) fall in love, get over himself, fall for a boy, and hate Zayn Malik at the same time.
(and maybe this is how it should have always been)

But the sun comes up instead (71,332 | E) by blackwayfarers:
Zayn Malik, charming and confident fraternity vice-president, meets shy but achingly endearing high schooler Liam Payne at a kegger and everything just goes straight to hell.

Too Good is True (80,024 | E) by xxcaribbean (roseaque):
Zayn is a manservant (actually he’s a maid, but it’s what Niall calls him because one, there isn’t a male equivalent to the term maid and two, it sounds far sexier than what the job actually requires).
Liam is the unfortunate third wheel in the band One Direction. Harry and Louis are in love. And Niall is a butler

What We Become (78,042 | E) by scottmcniceass:
“It’s okay if you are,” Harry says seriously. “I mean, I know I would be. Like, if there was ever a date that was destined to go bad, it’s probably this one. It’s not a question of what could go wrong. It’s a question of what could possibly go right, and I’m willing to bet the answer to that is nothing.“

We’re Okay (153,816 | M) by scottmcniceass:
It’s funny, really, that their lives hadn’t intercepted before that point. That all it took was one little thing that set off a chain reaction of circumstances which led them all to each other. But it was for the best, really, because in the end, with each other, they were all okay.
And if you asked them, the whole thing could be blamed on Liam sleeping in, for once in his life.

Permanent (114,546 | E) by scottmcniceass:
At twenty-six, Liam has made a name for himself as one of the best football players of his generation. He’s in the prime of his game when a car accident threatens to end his career permanently. Depressed and hating the world, Liam heads back to his home town to take some time off and find himself again. He doesn’t expect to find life pretty much the way he’d left it eight years ago, and he definitely doesn’t expect to find something that might make him want to stay permanently, but that’s what he gets.

Liam’s lips part more as Zayn’s do, exhaling slightly as Zayn’s words sink in. He doesn’t understand what they mean, but he knows he meant it when he said Zayn could have anything he wants.
His eyes flicker open to stare up at Zayn’s dark ones, filled with a warmth that seems to consume Liam as he waits for him to respond. “Yeah, babe.”

S(l)ave Me (72,498 | E) by purpleeyestelllies:
If there’s one thing Zayn Malik knows it’s love. He creates it every single day with his multi-billion dollar match-making company. He helps Masters and slaves find their mates and each day he sends them out the door only to return home alone. Being young, rich, and handsome apparently isn’t enough for Zayn to find his own love. What he finds instead is a beaten and broken abandoned slave, Liam, in a dark alleyway in the middle of the night. He takes him home, fixes him up, and promises to use his company to find Liam his perfect match. But maybe his perfect match is closer than he knows.

but monsters are always hungry, darling (156,067 | E) by irishmizzy,miss_bennie:
Zayn Malik has nothing.
Louis doesn’t have much other than his van, his friends Liam and Eleanor (most of the time), and a wall that keeps him at a safe distance from everyone in his life; from the moment they meet, Zayn finds himself depending on Louis’s kindness, if you could even call it that. As Zayn learns what it is Louis does for money, he realizes he has a choice to make. The path it sets him down might not be the best one – it’s certainly not the smartest or safest – but it does bring him closer to Louis. And, eventually, Liam, who wants more for all of them, not that anyone wants to hear it. The rift it causes in the trio has long-lasting effects over the years, and while there are bright spots in Zayn’s life: Liam’s old friend Harry, who has his own lessons to learn about how love and relationships really work; Niall, the Irish busker from down the street who rapidly becomes a fixture in Harry’s life; a bed in a flat instead of a nest of blankets in a van, things are far from easy. It’ll all work out in the end, though. (At least, that’s what Liam and Harry keep promising him.)

There, Zayn meets Harry’s boyfriend, Louis and two close friends Niall and then there’s Liam, who is muscle and puppy eyes and a kind voice that speaks to Zayn softly as if he doesn’t want to scare him away. Liam drives Zayn mad.

Liam hadn’t meant for it to turn into a thing- a big, popular, almost the entire school was talking about it sort of thing. The podcasts started out as a way from him to vent some pent up aggression and actually be himself for once. Class Conflict ‘Verse (116,492) by photo41 (mbpgku):
+ Class Conflict (108,944 | T)
“The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles”- Marx
Class Conflict- Can refer to the concept of underlying tensions or antagonisms which exist in society due to conflicting interests that arise from different socioeconomic positions and dispositions.
Or what you get when Zayn, worried about what the hell he’s going to do in the future, meets a fit bloke on a school field trip to an Ducal estate and it turns out that this fit bloke, Liam, neglects to mention who exactly he is- he’s the Heir to one of the richest Dukedoms in Britain, and therefore already has his future planned out for him.
Basically, take Liam hiding his poshness, Zayn being oblivious, and throw in a son of famous Irish Actor and Liam and Zayn’s Best Friends who might be too perfect for each other, and you get the definition of Class Conflict.

+ Conscious of this Conflict (7,548 | G)
Society does not consist of individuals, but expresses the sum of interrelations, the relations within which these individuals stand
Zayn’s never had problems painting portraits before, but this one of Liam and his family is proving to be his Waterloo, since Liam can’t seem to let him be for like, 10 seconds to paint the damn thing. Unbeknownst to Zayn, Liam is being purposefully obstructive because he both does and doesn’t want him to paint it, he’s just figuring out the way to tell him. Meanwhile, Louis is trying to organize the best festival he can without going nuts, Niall just wants to get out of the Tony’s and all Harry wants is a cat. (Or so he thinks)

Louis likes to party hard, get drunk and get everyone in trouble but everybody loves him nonetheless. And then, there’s Niall, who’s the youngest of them all, but still has the most brains and keeps them all in order all while being in love with an impossible girl.
Or where Zayn gets hit in the head by his own actions, Liam finds himself falling for an idiot, Harry gets dragged out of the closet by the love of his life, Louis wants Harry and only Harry and Niall just wants all of them to get their shit together, so he can get his own life back.

Breaking the Silver Chain (89,288 | M) by Mickey_D
Liam is an alpha who is just coming home from a trip abroad, and he isn’t returning alone. While traveling, Liam met the most beautiful person he’d ever seen: an omega named Zayn. The two of them had a whirlwind romance that left them happily mated and inseparable. Zayn, a boy with rather exotic looks for Liam’s home, draws a lot of attention, which isn’t a bad thing, except that he catches the eye of Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio is an alpha with rumors constantly swirling about him, rumors about kidnapping, shady businesses, and omega-trafficking. It’s known that he has a few judges and law enforcers safely tucked in his back pocket, a fact that keep the rumor mill turning since no one can ever get a straight answer.
Harry Styles is a law enforcer with a rather loud omega named Louis. He’s determined to bring the truth about DiCaprio into the light after a distressing call from a hysterical Liam makes him see red.

There’s a warmth in his chest that expands until he feels buoyant almost. Like he could potentially fly. What a fucking cliche.
“You okay?” Liam asks, sliding up behind him and pressing a kiss to the nape of his neck.
“Never been better,” he replies. “Why do you ask?”
“You’ve been staring into the cupboard for about three minutes, babe. I don’t think you’re going to find Narnia there, no matter how hard you look.”
Zayn snorts and turns so Liam’s bracketed by his legs. “You’re a dork.”
Liam shrugs. “You love it, though,” he answers easily and Zayn’s breath catches for a minute.
“Yeah, I do.”
Zayn’s managing just fine as a single father. Louis and Harry are a help, as much as they are terrors, but it’s Liam who brings him home.

A war with the city of Banshia and its conquering King threatens all of the Cities on the continent of Kiza. Young Zayn Malik finds himself hopelessly entangled in the web of the war, his future rewritten in the span of a morning as allies and enemies shift. Traded for the promise of an ally, Zayn finds himself among the warrior tribes of the Nakizi people, where he must carve out his own place and take his fate into his own hands.

“You are beautiful and you are everything to me,” Liam simply whispers into his ear, because he knows this, has heard it countless times (hearing it from the mighty Zeus himself is something that will never leave Liam) but he knows Zayn doubts and troubles. Sometimes they argue over it, because Zayn once said he wasn’t sure he should have ever left Mount Olympus and that had felt like a slap in the face.
(Later, when Liam was trying to sleep alone after Zayn had said he was going for a long walk around their gardens, he felt the bed dip and Zayn’s weight slide under the sheets behind him and he heard the murmurings “you are worth so much more than anything Olympus could ever offer me, Liam.” And Liam had rolled over, taken a shaking, weeping Zayn in his arms and held him tight until the sun rose, trying his hardest to contradict and take down all the worries Zayn had voiced through his tears.)
Or a Helen of Troy AU of sorts, where Zayn is descended from the gods, Liam will do all in his power to see him smile, Louis and Niall are the greatest friends and Harry’s a clumsy slave boy that Louis can’t help but end up falling for.

Hurled back in time by forces he cannot understand, Zayn’s destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with the Knights Templar and the Third Crusade. evergloriousoverlord  asked:

How would you write a realistically talented military leader? From what I've seen, many fictional commanders survive by chance, not skill.

Well, chance and luck aren’t necessarily a bad thing. Frederick the Great? Lucky. Washington? Lucky. Napoleon? So lucky that he even said “I would rather have a general who was lucky than good.” If luck saves your general’s bacon, that isn’t a bad thing to show in your story, just don’t make it the only thing.

The key mistakes I see with amateur writers making “good” military leaders are: not explaining why said character is so good (the ‘yadda yadda yadda’), making enemies incompetent to the point of neglecting basic military essentials (the ‘surrounded by idiots’), using knowledge that could not be reasonably gleaned from available information (the ‘psychic general’), or succeeding despite doing incredibly moronic things (the ‘plot general’).

But demonstrating the commander’s skill in battle is necessary if you want your readers to believe that said character is a talented military leader, So, here’s what I’m looking at when I’m deciding how to build a military character.

Arm Candy ~ Cheronica

Word Count: 3,500

Summary: Cheryl and Veronica strike a deal that leads to a little more than what they had expected.

Warnings: Just a lot of fluff

A/N: My first fanfiction on Tumblr!! I was going to post this on AO3, but apparently you have to wait 5 years (10 days) in order to register a new account. Anyways, I hope you like it. EDIT: Our ao3 account is now up and running! Our handle is (@)rivervixens ~~~ Peaches ~~~

“There’s no way in hell we’re doing that again, Betty.”

“Well why not?”

“You know perfectly well why,” Veronica says, looking back at Betty, who shrugs and giggles a little, pressing her books toward her chest a bit more.

Veronica continues, “You should go with Archie. Besides, I’d much rather go alone; I’ve never liked being… well…”

“–arm candy?” Kevin cuts in, fighting through the crowd to walk next to Veronica as she looks at him in delight.

“Exactly,” she beams, glancing first at Betty and then at Kevin, “You’ll go with Archie, and you’ll go with Joaquin, and I’ll be free as a bird,” putting her hands on her shoulders and cocking her head to the side, a small smirk on her face and eyelashes batting.

“Of course, you’ll need a new dress and shoes. I’m thinking… Chanel with some pearls? It’s a real classic; should suit you perfectly…” Kevin continues to ramble as Veronica begins to wonder how she’ll even find the money to buy a dress, let alone a Chanel one.

As the three of them continue striding down the halls of Riverdale High, Veronica notices Cheryl Blossom observing her every step, red lips pressing together and hair twirled around her fingers.

How The French View Americans: Negative Stereotypes Explained

We all have preconceived notions of certain countries and cultures. We might even understand that these are gross generalizations but that doesn’t keep us from believing them. The French have quite a few preconceived ideas on what it means to be American. I’m going to explore where these stereotypes might come from.

*Disclaimer: This is all (slightly researched) speculation. *

1. Americans are stupid

Americans have the unfortunate stereotype of being not so bright. Many Europeans would agree. Is there some truth to this? Well according to OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), the U.S ranks 26th worldwide in scholastic test scores, below other world powers such as France, Germany, and China. But this is only proof if you believe that test scores accurately define intelligence. Also, the typical French person probably doesn’t know this statistic…so why do they think we’re “idiots”?

Probably because we are generally ignorant of the world around us. Who’s the Prime Minister of the UK? What political scandal is currently going on in Brazil? What is ISIS? The reality is many Europeans could answer these questions and many Americans could not. The other day I watched this American girl try to order at a french bakery. This first thing she said was “Hola” (*face palm*) and then she very loudly asked for a sandwhich in english, as if yelling would help the cashier understand her better. This is the American traveler in a nutshell - we go overseas without any regard for common practices, norms, or courtesies. This lack of cultural curiosity is what probably makes us seem uninformed, silly, and quite frankly, stupid.

2. Americans are superficial

Outsiders believe that all we care about is our looks, status, and wealth. Materialistic is our name and consumerism is our game. But like, we can’t like, be bothered with things like “inner beauty”. I mean, duh, we have reps to protect!

It’s not hard to understand why one would come to this conclusion of us. Watch American TV for 30 minutes and you will see how we eat up ideas of popularity and wealth. I mean we are the same country that has made famous-for-nothing Kardashians a household name. We’re also the same country that lets Channing Tatum “act” and lets Taylor Swift whine on every stage. I must admit (ashamedly) that I’ve thought to myself, “Wow, french actors and singers are not attractive”. But their celebrities are actually famous for being talented. Crazy concept, right?

3. Americans are conservative

One day when I was babysitting, I took the kids to the park. On the side of a building was a LARGE ad for a burlesque show with a topless woman gracing center stage. I remember feeling appalled. This is a park where children come to play! I looked around and none of the moms or their kids paid it any attention, almost as if this was normal. Am I a prude? No, I’m just American.

When it comes to nudity, cursing, or anything else considered taboo, we tend to censure it. These things are typically reserved for private spaces among adults. But in France, whether its in the media or in real life, they are much less likely to censor themselves.

Theory time: Part of this may be because we are a much more religious country than France. Although we express freedom of religion within our Constitution, we cannot deny that our country was founded on Christian principles and those principles manifest themselves within our political, social, and cultural identity. Around 88% of American citizens are affiliated with a religion compared to almost 55% of French citizens. Why are LGBT and female reproductive rights hot button issues? Why is the drinking age still 21 years old? Because of persisting conservative sentiments. Perhaps we hold more modest values because of our country’s subconscious (or maybe not so subconscious) ties to religion.

4. America is dangerous and racist

To many outsiders, most of our major cities are synonymous with danger. New York. Miami. Chicago. I’ve been asked several times by wide-eyed Frenchies if I’ve ever visited these cities and if I’ve ever felt unsafe. What puzzles them most is why, oh why, can’t America solve its gun issue? Trust me, we’re asking ourselves the same thing. Mass shootings have become unnervingly commonplace and we are just as exhausted.

As for the racism thing, French people have televisions. They see our public discourse on police brutality, the physical aggression at Trump rallies and that same presidential candidate’s stance on Mexican immigrants. They know well that our country was built on the backs of slaves and immigrants and has a 400 year history of racial oppression and discrimination. But don’t be fooled, France is not at all a racial utopia. They’ve had their fare share of discriminatory laws over the years. However, due to our track record, its the U.S that usually wins the prize of most racist world power.

5. Americans are fat

This is without doubt the number one stereotype about Americans and unfortunately there’s a lot of merit to it. We are one of the unhealthiest countries in the world. In 2015, 74 million Americans, almost 2/3 of the country, were considered overweight or obese. Researchers predict that these numbers will only increase and by 2020, 75% of the nation will be overweight. Compared to the 40% of overweight French citizens, these numbers are quite egregious.

But what’s ironic is that we are by far more obsessed with exercise and healthy eating. We have a strong “work out culture” in the states and for most Americans the question is not whether you’re dieting but which diet you’re on. As a whole, French people don’t actively work out. In fact in the 9 months I’ve been here, I have seen one gym. ONE. And it was extremely empty. They don’t have to work at being healthy because they just naturally are. It’s not in their culture to eat large fast food portions or eat out for that matter. Where as in the US, we love to dine outside the home. Not only is it a great way to connect with friends but its convenient. And from drive-thrus to 24/7 restaurants, you cant deny our love affair with conveniency.

6. Americans are self-involved workaholics

“You can be anything you put your mind to” “Reach for the stars” “You could be the next president of the United States!”

From an early age we are told that everyone is special. That hard work is the key to success and to dream as big as possible. I asked a couple of my students what they wanted to be when they grew up and none of them had an answer. From an American perspective this is very strange. Every American child knows exactly what they want to be by the age of 3. Even if the answer is a Princess, we raise children to have a very clear and confident vision of who they are and where they are going in life.

Our society is characterized by individualism. What that means is that we emphasis personal achievements, we value independence, and much of what we do in life is self-enhancing. Many countries fall into this category and you can argue that there’s nothing wrong with it. But the inevitable result of individualism is that we lose sight in the importance of people around us. We are less family-oriented and instead place more value on our personal success, which typically translates to how we perform in our careers.

Everyone is chasing the “American Dream”, hoping to make something of themselves. But instead of enjoying life, we’re too busy working hard for the money. We work 30% more than Europeans, have significantly less paid vacation time, and we’re one of the only countries that doesn’t guarantee parental leave for new mothers and fathers. We don’t value leisure time for ourselves or with our family. Maybe we are not personally “self-involved workaholics”, but the way our society is set up its almost impossible not to be.

Feeling bitter? Well let’s glance at some positive stereotypes.

7. Americans are very self-confident

8. Americans are charitable

9. Americans are super friendly

10. Americans are good looking

See, it’s not all bad.

A/n: Once again, thanks for all the support! Love you all

You politely chitchatted with Chris, Kelly and Madison in the car and once you were back home. You didn’t want to talk about what you’ve heard, especially with them. After a cup of coffee, you went upstairs, ready for another sleepless night, overthinking everything that happened. “So, did you have fun?” Maddie asked you as she also got ready for bed. “Sure, they are very nice people and the dinner was lovely.” You replied. You had already decided you weren’t telling Maddie anything. First of all, you didn’t want to talk about ‘Josh-problems’ with her and second, you were kind of annoyed by her attitude lately, though you couldn’t put your finger on what exactly rubbed you the wrong way. “I had a great night as well. Laura and Bill have always been so nice to me and I’m so close to them; I love hanging out with them.” Maddie said. “Anyway, I’m meeting up with Annie tomorrow, so I’ll probably be home late. Goodnight.” She turned off her light and rolled over in bed. You were wide awake, staring at the ceiling in the dark. Once again, your mind started racing. Question after question came up; Why don’t Bill and Laura like me? Why didn’t Josh invite me for the dinner? What is the deal with Maddie? And why did I panic? You texted Ashley, asking if she wanted to meet up tomorrow. You figured she was the best option to talk to, hoping she could shine some light on the issues you were having.

Part Four: The Core Questions

In Part Three, I mentioned three questions that are essential to an idea’s success. They center on three aspects of story: character, theme, and world. These are topics that make up the core of your story and writing without having an inkling about their answers can be a detriment to your confidence as you set out toward completing the story. Ideas are just the beginning of work; that work can be simple or a struggle. Now, I’m not saying that you won’t struggle if you can answer these questions, or that plunging in blindly never works. I’m certainly not saying you have to have full, complete, written-in-stone answers to these questions, but I do believe that having a very raw, basic plan or goal is going to stand you in good stead as you begin putting words on the page. Let’s talk about these core questions, though, and how they help form the basis of your story:

Whose story is it? This is perhaps the most essential question you’ll ever ask about any story you’re writing, whether it’s a vignette, short story, novella, or full-fledged novel. You must know whom the story belongs to. It sounds so simple–after all, isn’t it just the main character?–but it can become increasingly more difficult when you are faced with an idea that may not contain a character at all, or focuses on a side character. Finding out the answer to this question can take longer than feels natural because it seems like such a simple question.

You can help facilitate the answers by looking at your idea and really probing it, rearranging it, and smashing parts of the idea together to see what changes. Who is this character you first imagined and are they really as forefront as it first appears? What if you put them in a supporting role or as a side character that’s met in one scene? How does that change the story, or does it? Is your story really about the priest dealing with refugees or is it about one of the refugees and the priest is just a scene in the story?

If you were asked by a genuinely interested friend to describe the story, what would you say? As succinctly as possible, consider that answer and try to state the main conflict of the story–is it really the army’s flight from the city or is it the moment someone channels magic for the first time in 175 years? Think about any characters you’ve imagined attached to this idea and try to see which one owns the story. It should be that character who tells this, not another character who happens to also be participating–that would be an entirely different story.

Imagine how The Great Gatsby would have been had Jay Gatsby himself been the one telling it rather than Nick Carraway. Yes, the story follows Gatsby, but it’s not about him–it’s about Nick and the realizations he comes to as he finds himself accidentally on the fringes of this group. Take a very objective view of your idea and drill yourself: To whom does the story belong? Whose is it? Who owns it? Who should be front and center because it is theirs?

What’s the story really about? A lot of folks advocate for answering this question after the story is written and you can evaluate what emerged in the period of more-or-less free-writing it developed from. I don’t dispute that, but I think it’s a separate function than the first time you do it. Ask this of your story twice–once at the beginning to give yourself a goal to work toward and again at the end to see what exactly you came up with and whether that still reflects what you set out to do.

This question gets right to the heart of your plot rather than your characters by evaluating themes and messages you want to portray.  Are you really telling the story of the rebellion itself, or are you telling the story of the discovery of magic? Are you really talking about war or are you talking about survival? Are you talking about compulsive lying or are you talking about self-acceptance?

Knowing the type of story you want to tell in terms of theme–even if they change during the writing–gives you the opportunity to organically grow those themes without having to shoehorn them in later. You can develop ideas about where the plot goes and what kinds of scenes would move that story forward while you’re writing instead of afterward when you finish with something that’s not as cohesive as you wanted. Without a goal like this to aim for, you absolutely feel like you have more freedom to explore anything you want, but you can also get caught up in a tangent that may not lead you ultimately to a satisfying ending.

That’s not to say that it can’t, or that you’ll end up with a fool-proof and completely connected story if you head in with one, but it can be a great help when you don’t know what happens next or where to go. You can look back on it and reorient yourself to the type of product you want to achieve in the end and get yourself–and the story–back on track.

How much technology will the world have? This is such a simple question, and really just the equivalent of sticking a toe into an ocean of world-building possibilities. There are a thousand places to enter into the maze of developing your world, but if we’re just talking about the basics–what you need to get started on a story and developing the rest as you write–then I believe this question to be exactly the one that’s needed.

By understanding what kind of technology people are dealing with, you can gain an idea of what kinds of weapons they might have access to, what kinds of living conditions they might have, what kinds of travel they have access to, the types of medicines available, and even might hint to the history of the world. If there’s old tech abandoned in some fields and no one really remembers what it’s for anymore, there’s a lot you can develop out of that one tidbit alone.

You don’t have to have your whole world and a thousand cultures and a couple hundred religions and where agriculture first started and who domesticated what animals first in order to write in a world. Knowing the types of technology that are available, on the other hand, at least gives you a place to start imagining what living in this place could be like. From there, you can develop it as deeply or as superficially as you like, but knowing if they’re riding in a car or a buggy, carrying a sword or a gun, lighting four candles in the evenings to see the letters they’re writing or flipping a switch to turn on the overhead light are details that will help you write a more cohesive story.

Don’t forget–knowing your world even the tiniest bit will help you develop solutions for plot points because you’ll know what your characters would have at their disposal.

Next up: When to start!

A few things I learned as an INFJ*

* an unhealthy one, but hopefully all INFJs can take something from my experiences.

Before I say more,

A note to INFJs (and all types too but especially INFJs): you should not be fitting the stereotype

INFJ stereotypes. We all know what they are. Psychic. Just ~knowing~ what’s wrong with you. Amazing analytical skillz. Staring into your soul, you are defenseless before me. Amazing selfless love. BASICALLY JESUS. And I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22 it was one of the scariest things about being an INFJ when I first took the (terrible) online test. It took me years to accept the fact that I was an INFJ, and I constantly second-guessed myself every step of the way. Because, let’s be honest. Not all of us have amazing selfless love and the urge to show up at your house with ice-cream when you’re sad (but it’s there, in our Fe — we probably haven’t uncovered it/tried it out yet. Or, y’know, you could just consult our enneagram for more on what drives us to do what we do).

So what makes one an INFJ? Simple. Ni-Fe-Ti-Se. Don’t come at me with your Introvert-iNtuitive-Feeling-Judging theories, please. By doing that, you are saying that “Feelers” can’t be “Thinkers”, “Judgers” can’t be “Perceivers”, etc. and you don’t want that, do you? Because there’s no such thing. Every human is a complex mix of intuition, sensing, thinking, and feeling — it’s just how their functions are stacked (by order of which ones each type uses more) and whether they’re introverted and extroverted.

So no, an INFJ may not be outwardly caring and huggy. But they probably forcefully defend you when people talk about you behind your back. They may not gush about how great you are constantly. But it’s very likely that they care very much that you feel loved, in a quieter way that does nothing to affect the intensity of their Ni-Fe. If you know an INFJ who’s constantly snapping at others, consider what they’re snapping about. Is the other person being a self-righteous prick who dismisses others without taking time to understand them? There you have it.

In short, abandon the stereotypes and ask yourself, “Do I use dominant Ni, auxiliary Fe, tertiary Ti, and inferior Se?” That way, you can be a selfish INFJ and still be one. Because even if you’re not using your functions in the healthy way, you’re still using them. EPIPHANY! (Yeah, I know.)

This point is long enough without me going deeper into the functions, so please read up on your own in order to understand the following points (I highly recommend funkymbtifiction, sillymbti, and mbtireallife for relatively easy-to-understand posts explaining the basics).

1. Please, please utilise your Se

INFJs, don’t fear the Se. It’s like the best friend that holds your hair back for you when you’re nauseous and hungover, and if you work with it, it could even prevent you from getting drunk in the first place. What I mean is, don’t get too stuck in your head. There’s a real world outside, and sometimes it’s not as complex and broken as you think it is! (At least, not in the moment you’re in.)

Whenever I feel overwhelmed from too much thinking, I go into the kitchen and wipe the dishes dry. These are my rules: no distractions, no music, no talking to anybody, nothing that can prompt me to start analysing, abstracting, or empathising. Just wipe each plate, feel the fibres of the cloth on the pads of your fingertips, focus on getting the water off thoroughly, stack everything neatly, bring it to the cupboard, and put it in. Breathe in, breathe out. Feel your chest expand with each breath. Be in the moment and use all your senses. I chose something completely mundane to remind myself that I can’t be focusing on abstract humanitarian goals every second of the day.

Eating something? Focus on the taste, the texture. Don’t think about how “this is a waste of time” and that you could be doing something “more profitable.” Taking care of your body is IMPORTANT. Don’t tell yourself to “make up for lost time” by Ti-ing during meals too. Talk to whoever you’re eating with. Savour the food. Take some goddamn photos of it. Don’t edit those photos/post them on Instagram until later when you know you’ve used enough healthy Se to balance out your Ni. (Because thinking about aesthetics, trying to find a filter that looks like [insert artistic term here] and [artistic term here] while achieving [unique way of evoking emotion], and inwardly debating the benefits and downfalls of Instagram aka The App That Shows Skewed Realities is NOT going to help you enjoy your food and you’re probably going to eat too fast and end up with indigestion later. And no, don’t brush that off as a small thing. You need to respect your body, not mistreat it.)

Taking a shower? Enjoy the water on your skin. Running errands? Savour the fresh air in between stops and the fact that you can walk. (Walking is so cool. Think about it. Walking. Taking steps with your feet. Amazing!)

3. Watch out for the dangerous Ni-Ti function loop

Awhile ago I felt myself entering that spiral of forever analysing and shooting down my intuition and thought that it wasn’t a big deal and that I could pull myself out whenever I wanted. I now spend most of my days depressed and my nights crying in a corner of my room because there are too many huge questions I’ve dug up and don’t know how to answer. If this is a door you can close and step away from, for your own sake, do it. But if it’s a gaping hole you couldn’t avoid and are now falling through, please don’t blame yourself. We’re all human and we’ve all got bruised knees (and much worse) from falling too many times to count. Breathe, it’s okay. Don’t even think about getting yourself out yet. Just accept that this is a part of you and that that’s alright. Self-hate only makes the pit deeper.

4. It’s okay to not like something someone else made

Recognise it’s your Fe and tell yourself that you can and must have your own opinion, regardless of how hard it is to imagine that person hurt that you didn’t actually like what they did. (And for all you know, it might be your Ni coming to wrong conclusions about that person’s reaction. It’s possible they may not mind. Poke your head out of your dominant function, use your Se, and judge — carefully and delicately, of course — accordingly. But don’t be so quick to assume everyone is super fragile and very easily hurt, because I’ve found this a foolproof trigger for activating my function loop. Some people, believe it or not, aren’t so easily hurt. I know, it took me forever to accept that.)

As an INFJ, I know the urge to forever be just the right type of kind and supportive to everyone who crosses my path, but I learned the hard way that sometimes I do actually have an opinion that differs and that is OKAY. To disregard that is the equivalent of stepping on yourself again and again. It’s okay to respect yourself. You should respect yourself. Don’t hate yourself for feeling something other than what you think you should feel, because you are a human, not a robot programmed to be just the right sort of caring (basically, you are not Baymax).

5. It’s okay to like something just because you like it

Not everything you like has to be deep and meaningful. I know, we INFJs do this unconsciously because we’re constantly, genuinely searching for meaning and not because we want to appear ~pretentious~ and ~deep~. But some things in life are meant to be enjoyed simply and not so thoughtfully. Because if you don’t see that, you’ll be severely limiting yourself and seeing life as full of gigantic problems and suffering people —  when it is possible for little things like ice cream on a windy day and dancing to a song with four chords to exist in the same world (and they do).

6. Your Si is at the bottom of your eight functions for a reason

I’m not quite sure what to think about shadow functions yet, but they were right in calling Si an INFJ’s last, Devilish function. Constantly looking back is not going to help an INFJ in emotional crisis mode. My mum is an Si-dom, so I grew up being taught how to measure my decisions based on the results of every single past mistake. Whenever I use this function, it completely derails me. It does not go well with Ni, because how can you be intuitive and constantly second-guessing yourself from past experiences at the same time? C’mon. Don’t do this to yourself. It’s all well and good to learn from history (INFJs getting too caught up in ideals and not accessing their logic is unspeakably dangerous too), but this is not your dominant function. Heck, it’s not even in your primary function stack.

Looking ahead and not getting caught up in the past is good advice for just about any type (even Si-doms), but INFJs in particular are dominantly future oriented, so trying to use a function that goes against their very core is… questionable, at best. You could say that you’re just “trying to be prepared” in case someone asks (always having to answer to my mum made me no stranger to utilising Si), but don’t play around with this. I’m not kidding when I say it can derail you. INFJs — know when to go back to past experiences, but also know that some memories really are best left behind. If you’re not careful, you’ll get stuck in a rut of painful remembrances while your true nature struggles to turn its perspective to the future.

Example: breakups. INFJs are known for being able to move on faster because of their Ni. If you are one of those, don’t fight it. Don’t ask yourself, “Why aren’t I remembering details about them and crying?” Get the hell out of there and don’t look back. If you try and make the Si come out, it will. And heaven help you then.

So yeah. Thanks for reading. I don’t know why I felt the need to type all this out, but I woke up this morning and realised there were some very important lessons I learned just from knowing my type and my function stack. There might be more, I don’t know. But for now, I think I’ve rambled long enough and made you guys scroll a little too many times :x

And if anything I wrote offended anyone due to my ignorance, please accept my apologies and understand that I would never want to hurt or trigger you in any way. (And please refrain from writing me angry messages, because as you can see, I’m barely picking up the pieces of my life. Please be kind. I hope it’s not too much to ask for.)

Lifestyle of the Rich and Miraculous: Chapter 2

Chapter Summary: Marinette gains a new friend.

Rating: Not rated! Not sure what direction I want to take this.

Words: 2K

Part One

Adrien’s POV

Bright lights, camera flashes, and loud music blasted through unknown speakers. The runway stretched out and curved around the audience as they watched in awe as the models walked. It was all very common and predictable when you’ve walked down a runway for half your life. The nervousness that came with having thousands of people watch you went away at the tender age of seven. “You are an Agreste. You don’t get to be nervous.” His father’s secretary, Natalie commented monotonously.

How could you tell a little kid that? How can you put a child in the limelight without so much as a heads up. A little “Hey, your entire life will be judged from the moment you leave your mother’s womb to the day you die. Also, you gotta put on these random clothes and take pictures like a little show monkey for people who will never buy our stuff, because it’s so overly priced.” would have been nice.

There was so much that Adrien had to live up to, because being the son of a top of the line fashion designer meant not screwing up. People deemed him lucky to have all the luxuries that came with his lifestyle. They envied his ability to obtain money, cars, and women without so much as a hesitation. Having “friends” who were only around you for your namesake and wealth, a father who has spent more time in the office than with you, and a life that was not just your’s, but the entire world’s wasn’t the way to live. He wouldn’t wish a life like this on his worst enemy.

Finally reaching backstage his stoic expression changed to one more relaxed. The confidence he had seconds before slowly eased until all that was left was exhaustion. Being up since five in the morning, flying in from the United States, and accomplishing three shows back to back would drain anyone. He would have to thank Natalie for his hectic schedule later, but his first priority was sleep. He couldn’t wait to reunite with his nice, warm bed after a week of being a part. The thought of whispering sweet nothings into the bed sheets as his eyes drifted close was all it took to send shivers down his spine. Plagg was most likely giving his sitter hell, but again that was the last thing on his mind.

Not even a second later a hand wraps around his right arm, pulling him over to the side. Blonde curls were now in his line of vision and it was then he realized who it was. Chloé Bourgeois, the daughter of a French politician, was a woman who was spoiled, overly persistent, and high maintenanced. All the qualities Adrien had no interest in dealing with.

For some reason, like the leech she was, Chloé latched herself onto Adrien in hopes of becoming a power couple. A couple that would never see the light of day despite what most media outlets foretold. “You were so great out there, Adrien.” She smirks at him and he scrunches his nose in disgust. Was it too late to walk back on stage? The idea of breaking free and running off seemed like the best choice, but that would be improper. He liked being improper.

“Thanks…Chlo. Listen I got-” Chloé wraps her arms around his neck pulling him in for a kiss. A sacrifice must made. ‘Lips or cheek? Cheek, definitely cheek.’ Turning his head quickly her lips made contact with his cheek. The urge to scrub his face immensely was strong. She clearly didn’t understand meaning of personal space. Inhaling deeply, Adrien gently pushes the clingy woman away, receiving a pout in return. “When are we going to announce that we are officially dating? How am I suppose to show affection when we can’t do anything in public?”

There was a huge possibility Chloé believed in her delusional mind that there was something between them. The only thing between them were clothes, his common sense, and soon to be written up restraining order. “Chloe, I would like nothing more than to answer that, but I-” As if on cue Natalie wedges herself between the two and hands Adrien his phone, completely ignoring Chloe’s glare.

“Your insufferable friend wishes to speak with you.” The sound of a bass dropping and yelling could be heard from the other end of the line. He found his outlet. He bids both ladies goodbye overlooking Chloe’s annoyed expression and heads into the dressing room. “You picked the perfect time to call, Nino.”

“Can’t tell if that’s sarcasm so I’ll ignore that, bro. You need to get your butt over here. There’s people waiting for the host with most to make an appearance!” Ah, yes.. With fashion week officially over, there was still one more thing left to do. It was time for an Agreste to do what Agreste’s do best. End this week with a bang. While masquerade night was a weekly event, this time around there were people from all over the world coming to see how an Agreste throws a party. ‘Team no sleep…’ He thought. A nice hashtag to add on his Instagram once all this was done. “Just finishing up here. Give me another thirty minutes.” The call ended between the two and it left him feeling melancholy.

Adrien wasn’t happy. The only time he could say he was at his happiest was when he wasn’t himself. There was only one way to achieve that.

Marinette’s POV

Tired doesn’t even begin to describe how Marinette felt. Why was she sitting at a bar by herself when she made promises to her bed that morning, saying she would return show it some tender, love, and care as soon as the day was over? Because being a best friend came with making irrational sacrifices. But when that same friend leaves you to mingle with other people it was hard not complying with what the heart wanted.

Marinette couldn’t blame it all on Ayla, though. She had declined the offer to go out there just to have conversations with people she didn’t care for. Marinette was far from antisocial, but she could smell the fakeness off of those socialites from a mile away. She wasn’t going to subject herself to being who she wasn’t only to please them.

Looking out onto the extensive dance floor there was possibly over a hundred people dancing along to the music. The majority of the crowd was dressed in ball gowns and suits, their faces hidden with masks. Masquerade night was in full swing and while Marinette had no interest to attend, she couldn’t pass up the chance to debut her latest outfit. Some patrons were obvious to pick out, but Marinette made sure she was unrecognizable.

No one knew her name, but they knew of her unique designs. If you spotted a young woman wearing different red dresses with black polka dots then you knew of Ladybug, a name given to her by the regulars of the club. Tonight was no different. Ladybug had done it again, creating a rockabilly inspired dress with the same color scheme as all of her other creations. Her hair had been curled to match the decade she was going for and her signature red and black mask shielded her from the rest of the world.

Many people wondered who she was. She went from being an actress to a model in a matter of seconds during small talk. Little did they know that she was the woman who has helped create impressive looks for the very same celebrities they claimed her to be. As much as she would love to reveal herself, where was the fun in that? Ayla often rolled her eyes at the idea of being so mysterious, but kept the secret nonetheless.

Suddenly the music began to die down. The crowd including Marinette looked up to the stage as the DJ began to speak. “Yo, ladies and gentlemen. You’re in for a special treat tonight!” DJ Bubbler was his name, a popular DJ who made his mark during the grand opening of Cataclysm. Ayla had come into contact with him not too long ago and ever since has received free entrance into the nightclub for her and Marinette. Marinette didn’t know much about him except that he was close friends with Adrien, who just so happens to own the club. It wasn’t often the owner made an appearance, but when he did Marinette never had the pleasure of witnessing it.

“Now I know you all are ready to lose yourself with my crazy rhythms, but we need to end this week right. And here to end it with us is the one and only Adrien Agreste!” The crowd hollered in excitement as the blonde figure walked onto the stage, waving and smiling as he does so. Marinette’s ocean blue eyes were fixed right on him, her mind in a complete daze. He looked incredibly handsome wearing a classic black tuxedo and matching black mask that brought out the green in his eyes perfectly. Something about dark on light colors made Adrien even more aesthetically pleasing to observe.

It was not until the sound of people clapping once again that Marinette realized she missed the entire announcement. She watches as Adrien hands the microphone over to the DJ and disappears backstage.

Maybe he was going to stay and party with everyone else! She could already hear Ayla screaming for her to get her man, but the sudden fear of rejection was back in full force. She needed another drink. Looking over at the bartender she signals for another soda induced drink and rests her cheek against a propped up hand.

The bartender returns with an ice filled glass of Shirley Temple, handing it over to raven haired woman. Out of the corner of her eye there was another man gawking at a few seats down. He was either outright drunk or too busy daydreaming. Either way, his eyes were on her and it was very unsettling. The man almost fell out of his chair making it his mission to move closer to where Marinette sat. “Damn it…” She was hoping he was really good at sleeping with his eyes open. Turning down drunks was never fun, especially if they were the angry types. To Marinette’s surprise the man stopped in his tracks, his focus on something else and he immediately heads back to his seat.

A look of defeat was plastered all over his face, which could only mean one thing “Looks like I came just in time, my lady.” Marinette’s eyebrow twitches as she lets out an exasperated sigh. Her so called “knight in shining armor” leaned over against the bar counter with a small smirk forming on his lips. His smug attitude was almost nauseating.

“I would have handled it, Chat.” Chat Noir was a well known man within the Cataclysm walls. Women swooned when he graced them with his presence. Most women, anyway. There was no denying that he was good looking, but he was far from Adrien Agreste. The way Adrien carried himself was admirable, Chat Noir was just irritating. Like his namesake he was clad in a black suit, mask, and cat ears protruding from his messy blonde hair. He was a troublesome man who Marinette had become acquainted with in a similar situation almost two months ago. Ever since he “saved” her from a drunkard who got a little too touchy feely, Chat was tied to her at the hip. God only knew why.

“You know I can’t stand by and watch someone unworthy of your time take you away from me.” She laughs mockingly.

“From you? I’m not your play thing, stupid cat. You can’t just claim me."

He takes a step back with a hand on his chest, his eyes feigning hurt. "Play thing? You wound me, my lady. I actually think very highly of you.”

“Do you now?” She raises an eyebrow while raising her newly filled glass to her lips. “Why the skeptical look? I saw a friend in potential trouble and I brought it upon myself to help her out.”

There was a sudden urge to spit out her drink in utter shock.  "Since when are we friends?“

"Since I just declared it. Were you not listening?"  She was tempted to smack him, but a feeble attempt would only result in having him laugh at her. ‘Annoying cat…’

"I will try not to hit on you if you accept my friendship.” That would be something Marinette would have to witness in order to believe. In the few weeks they had come to know one another, his attempts to romance her were anything but subtle. She wasn’t sure why he was so fascinated with her when there were probably a good amount of women that were just dying to sleep with the one and only Chat Noir.

“You promise?” Was she really going to entertain this idea?

“Cross my heart and hope to die.” Marinette scoffs at the thought.

"You’d just come back with eight more lives.” He thought it was a joke, but she was at least half serious. He had characteristics that reminded her too much of a cat. His inability to follow rules, his lack of personal space, and his overly curious nature. A part of her actually believed he was raised by cats.

“Against my better judgment I have decided to accept a mutual friendship with you." He was grinning widely at her again. There goes that smugness of his, like he won some sort of battle. "Since we’ve established a friendship maybe I could obtain my friend’s number?”

“I thought you said you weren’t going to hit on me.”

“I said I would "try”. Besides, I highly doubt exchanging phone numbers with yours truly will be the worst thing you could possibly do.“ He had a good point. She could think of a million things that could be worse than having him annoy her on a daily basis. Like making a fool out of herself in front of Adrien. One wrong move and she could lose any chance of interacting with him.

There really wasn’t any harm in giving him her number. Marinette was a good judge of character and while he wouldn’t know "good” if it kicked him in the face, she liked his company. “You’re not going to send me nudes, are you?”

“Only if you ask nicely." An answer like that deserved a drink to the face, but the cherry grenadine was too good to waste on someone like him. "Fine, but one wrong move and I’m coming after you.” This was a bad idea. An idea that will she will surely lament over in the long run.

“I’d prefer if you came before me. I wouldn’t be a gentlemen if I didn’t give you proper satisfactory."

This was a really bad idea.

A Shirley Temple, for those who do not know, is a drink that some adults drink to look like they are drinking alcohol, but its really soda and syrup. I didn’t want Marinette to get drunk or tipsy (at least not in this chapter) so I rather her be fully aware.

Plagg will be Adrien’s pet cat in this story!

The reason for Marinette’s rockabilly style was….because I own a Monster High doll that had a cute similar style. I wanted to incorporate it!

Unfortunately, I will be out of the country for a week! You will have to wait for the next chapter, loves. I shall return soon!

【STAR1 Magazine Aug 2016 issue】 BTS Interview

Q: From early June, you have been having an Asia tour.  How do you feel to see your overseas’ fans after a year?

JIMIN: I always feel blissful and happy when I stand on the stage. I feel that there are more people supporting us compared our tour last year. So I think we should put more effort in and improve ourselves.

JIN: Every country and city that we go to, many would follow and sing our songs from the beginning to the end. Every time I’d think ‘it’s good to be alive’. I feel really blissful and I want to be with our audience for a long time.

JUNGKOOK: Every time we go up the stage, I always feel nervous and thankful. It’s tiring to do high level choreographies on the stage, but when the concert is finished, I feel that I’ve gained more strength from the audience.

Q: How was the 10 days’ trip to Northern Europe with the members back in May? You’ve attracted attention after revealing your travelogue through Naver V App.

SUGA: It was really exciting since it’s our first time going on a trip together. I’ve had many fun experiences in faraway countries that I thought I’d never visit in my life. I want to thank Naver and Big Hit entertainment once again.

J-HOPE: It was backpack trip that people in 20s’ would go on, and a trip to enjoy your youth with your close friends. We planned the schedule ourselves and went to see many nice attractions. We huddled around here and there, took photos and we also had a small meat party.

JUNGKOOK: The staffs and managers always took care of us, but when we were left on our own on a tract of land, I feel that we’re lacking in some areas. And unexpected incidents happened, like leaving the baggage behind, but it was still a happy trip. My hyungs had a party for me on the day of ‘coming to age’. It was actually a surprise party. It was a meaningful trip where I could feel the strong bond of friendship between us in various ways.

Q: Since ‘HYYH’ received a lot of love, I think you’d be bittersweet to send it away. As you guys grow into a group that holds a strong influence globally, your sense of responsibility also increases and could make you feel conceited.

JIMIN: Through this promotion, I feel that more people got to know us and support us. We won our first 1st place and stood on the stage that we’ve dreamed of, the Olympic Gymnastic Stadium. I’m very grateful and that’s something to be thankful for. I think many are worried that BTS will come to an end when this promotion ends, because the album title is ‘HYYH’. (laughs) I feel that our fans are just as sad as us to let HYYH go. We’ll show you more in the future, so I hope you won’t be sad.

V: I think if one works really hard, it’s ok to want to be acknowledged. But I think it’s necessary to alter one’s mindset if they don’t put any effort in and arrogantly think that ‘you can’t achieve anything without me’. I’ve been observing the members for the past 5 years, since the trainee period and no one is like that.

SUGA: I think every beginning has an end. Personally, I feel that it’s a nice album that I’d never forget for the rest of my life, but if it’s stagnant at one place, the water is bound to corrupt. We’ll come back with better music and concept as we beautifully say goodbye to ‘HYYH’.

Q: Do you feel pressured to release an album that must surpass ‘HYYH’?

SUGA: I’ve always felt the pressure. I always think that we need to comeback with better music that will surpass our previous album. The next album will be just as important to us as the other ones and I have to work harder in producing to make it better. I always have grand ideas when I make music but I also do a lot of modifying. I’m curious of what kind of story we’ll tell in our next album.

J-HOPE: There is great pressure. If I say there’s no pressure, then that’d be a lie. But every album is like that. So far, we’ve been producing albums with our own stories. And I think more people will like it, if we keep producing music which has our own style in the future. BTS has the confidence to receive (your) love! (laughs)

Q: The lyrics to ‘Epilogue: Young Forever’ is very impressive. “The thundering applause, I can’t own it forever”, does this express BTS’ true feeling?

RAP MONSTER: I always think about the future. I tend to first think about the things that I could lose, compared to the things that I’ve gained in the past. I’ve also received many feedbacks saying that I couldn’t enjoy at times where I should enjoy myself. It’s my nature, so I can’t do anything about it. As I first think about the things that I could lose, I’d become a bit more cautious and I feel that I’m growing up into an adult.

J-HOPE: We know that the audience’s applause won’t last forever. But, we don’t usually worry over these lyrics. We tend to talk about our little worries. We believe that we should constantly communicate with each other and stick together to reach higher together.

Q: You guys have been busy and working hard more than anyone in the past 3 years. Are you close to the image of BTS that you’ve dreamed of before debut?

JIN: We’ve got much more further. Honestly, I’ve never expected to receive love from so many people and to be this successful. Sometimes, it suddenly hits me before I fall asleep. I say to myself that this moment right now, it’s really blissful because we’re receiving more love (than I’ve expected).

J-HOPE: I think we ran forward with no regrets. Looking back at it now, I want to pat my butt and say “you’ve worked hard, Hope-ah” (laughs). We’ve been through a lot, but we took a step at a time and worked our way up, I think these 3 years are the most valuable. I hope we’ll continue to work hard together and become a better group.

Q: On <Flower Bromance>, when sunbae Lee Minwoo suggests that it’s possible to have different opinions between the members because of individual greed, Jungkook replied saying: “these days, BTS have been talking about it.” It’s your 4th year, so it’s possible to have difference in opinions in terms of music and have your own worries.

SUGA: We tend to discuss with each other if we have any worries and then come to an agreement. We’re humans too, so we have troubles but when we talk about it, it’ll be solved within a day. We know that we’re important to each other more than any other people.

V: I’ve fought with Jiminie over dumplings before. We argue over small things but we make up straight after.

Q: You’ve gained attention from songs with a strong hip hop base like ‘No More Dream’, ‘Boy in Luv’ and ‘Danger’, but through the ‘HYYH’ series, you guys are acknowledged as artists that can pull off a various of genre, can sing and make your own music with stories. Is it the result of gaining popularity?

SUGA: When I was younger, I thought it’s right for me to write songs. But at some point, it didn’t feel right. I realized that popularity is just as important as the musicality and the process of adjusting is not easy. When I’m working on the title song, we work hard to approach the public, and we show BTS’ own music through other songs.

RAP MONSTER: I can say that we’ve been focusing on a specific topic before the ‘HYYH’ series. Even if it wasn’t popular, at the time we were persistent in showing the music and performance that we wanted to show. ‘HYYH’ tells a story too and the intention was obvious. But as much as we want to show our own music, we also want the topic to be popular among the general public. However, if we only focus on popularity, the things that we have to protect will collapse, so we worked hard to balance it out.

Q: When you make music, the company and the role of the head (of the company) is also important. So, I’m curious of what kind of company is Big Hit and what kind of boss is Bang Shi Hyuk producer to BTS?

JIMIN: Our boss tends to try to talk to us a lot in order to communicate with us. I feel that there’s something comfortable and uncomfortable about him. We’re close but since he’s a person with a strong force, so sometimes it could be difficult. I haven’t worked in other companies so I don’t really know, but the company feels like a family. The CEO and the employees takes good care of all the singers in the company and we’re grateful to them for working hard for us.

SUGA: They let us do anything that we want to do. With writing title songs, it has to be catchy and the melody have to be good. So it’s not easy to write, but he has been giving us advice on producing music since the trainee period. However, with the other songs on the albums and mixtapes, he doesn’t even touch them. He’s rational and not oppressive. I’ve been in Big Hit for 7 years and I can proudly say that the company feels like a family more than any other companies.

Q: The public have been watching BTS growing from young boys to adults. Can you tell us what kind of image that you hope to portray in the adulthood? And can you talk about BTS’ real HYYH?

J-HOPE: Firstly, my goal is to be with our members forever. I want the 7 of us bond together and achieve a bigger valuable result. My dream is to receive the Daesang award and become a singer that is acknowledged globally, but I know we’re still lacking a lot. Everyone is greedy on music, so I hope we’ll work harder and reach the goals.

JIN: Actually when we debuted, I wasn’t at the age to be called a young boy (laughs). I think we’ll still be dancing to dances that breaks our body on the stage like now, even if we’re not ‘boys scouts’. I want us to stay as a cool group that never changes on the stage even after many years. When something good happen to us, our fans are happy for us, as if it’s actually happening to them. Even if it’s just to make them happy, I hope we could win the Daesang award with a great song.

JIMIN: We’ve discussed before that when we greet, we should remove ‘boys scouts’ and say ‘we’re Bangtan’. I think it’s ok to just introduce ourselves as ‘BTS’, our English name. Before our debut, we’ve made the goal to hold a concert in the Olympic Gymnastic Stadium and win the Daesang award. And thankfully, recently we’ve achieved the goal of performing in the Olympic Gymnastic Stadium. I want to receive the Daesang award once, it’s the biggest award that artists could win. We’ll persistently work hard to become a well-matched artist for that award.

Q: Say something to the members that have been through a lot together, and to your fans ‘ARMY’, who have been constantly supporting you guys in the past 3 years.

RAP MONSTER: We’ve had more fun and enjoyment instead of hardships. I hope that there’ll be more times where I could smile with my members. Our fans are the existence that makes me want to rush to the studio when I wake up the next day, even when I get discouraged many times when I’m writing songs.

SUGA: Our members work very hard to try to learn about themselves, it makes me wonder whether if there’s anyone that can continue to grow like this. It’s a blessing to be with these cool friends. And ARMYs are the reason why we exist. I think BTS can shine, it’s because of our fans. I want to pay back with better music.

J-HOPE: Thank you ARMYs and members for going through the hardships together in the past 3 years. And Big Hit is a hit, a hit! Let’s gather our strength together to work hard and be happier. Everyone’s life will be a (big) hit.

JIN: Actually I’m the tsundere type, so I can’t take good care of those who are around me. We were complete strangers and got together, there were times we didn’t get along but I’m thankful to our members for adjusting to each other and getting along well. These days I’m happier because ARMYs are here who we can share our happiness with. I want to always share good news and I’ll be cheering for everyone’s future too.

V: I’m proud and thankful to our members who reduce their sleeping hours to work hard to improve themselves. And I’m always thankful to ARMYs. These days, I’ve been filming under the blazing sun for the drama, so I hope you guys will understand that (only) my skin got darker. (laughs)

JIMIN: We’ve been living together for a long time but I hope we can continue to live together for a very long time. Every member is very important in each other’s life. It’s not easy to stay beside someone for 3 years, a period that’s not too long and not too short. ARMYs, thank you so much for being with us. I want to be with you guys for a very long time too.

JUNGKOOK: I lacked a lot since the trainee days, but my hyungs have taught and helped me a lot. I want to work hard to follow them, I’m thankful to my hyungs for always showing me cool images and helping me to think I shouldn’t fall behind. I’ll work hard until the day I catch up with my hyungs. ARMY is an irreplaceable part of my life. I’m always thankful and I’ll only make you walk on a flower path.

T/N: A flower path represents taking a beautiful path with no hardships in life.

Part 2 - Individual Questions

~ I’ve had the material for this post on the back burner for awhile now, but @luciemiddleford‘s ask encouraged me to finally put it into words. For those unfamiliar with my various meta on all things Ben Solo, it can be found here if you’re interested~

This particular examination delves deeper into the disgustingly toxic psychological underpinnings of Snoke’s relationship with Ben, and how Snoke continues to infiltrate and poison almost every facet of Ben’s being. More specifically, it takes a closer look at how Snoke’s involvement in Ben’s development at such a vulnerable age has affected Bens issues of validation, abandonment, dependency, and emotional control.

For starters, what Snoke did to Ben as a kid falls under the category of child abuse (child grooming, exploitation, emotional/mental abuse, etc). Plain and simple. What one wants to take from that and interpret/mold to his current character progression is up to the individual, but as a child he was an innocent pawn to the heinous and evil whims of a monster. Snoke was manipulating and corrupting and grooming from the beginning. That is canon, as stated by Leia herself. Not fanon.

Even if one wants to complain or point out that we don’t yet have specific examples of the ways in which Ben suffered under Snoke’s presence during childhood, the evidence can be clearly seen in the adult he became. Emotional abuse of a child (which is most often a pattern of behavior causing damage over a period of time) can sometimes be indicated by the following behaviors in the victim:

Severe lack of social and emotional development? Present and accounted for. Behavioral inhibitions and severe anxiety? Check. Overly defensive? Check. Extreme emotions or aggression? Double Check. Destructive or anti-social behavior such as outbursts of violence? Triple Check. And finally, suicidal thoughts and actions (which might possibly be gleaned from Ben’s seemingly careless regard for his own safety during his fight with Finn)? Mmm-hmm. In addition to all these things, he displays an inability to handle or process unexpected or sudden obstacles/setbacks in a level-headed or mature way.

It seems obvious to me that Ben and Snoke’s interpersonal relationship heavily involves a punishment-and-reward dynamic. Snoke has fashioned himself into the only “reliable” (see: available) person in Ben’s life; therefore, Ben is entirely dependent on him for emotional validation and he is susceptible to the Supreme Leader’s assessments of him as his only measure of self-worth. Snoke’s judgments and subsequent treatments of his ‘protégé’ are taken very personally, where Ben either responds by a) acting/feeling like a thoroughly kicked and anxious puppy or b) perking up like the Supreme Asshole has just ruffled his hair and applauded him. Snoke has absolute control over Ben by making the kid very wary of punishment (aka disappointing him) and subsequently desiring to make the Supreme Leader “proud”.

Lets take a look at some of the instances where this dynamic can be seen:

[After Rey’s interrogation]

“In the vast, darkened assembly chamber of Starkiller Base were only two figures: one tall and uncertain, the other looming and imperious…there was as much curiosity in Supreme Leader Snoke’s voice as their was disappointment. “This scavenger—this girl—resisted you?”

…“I perceive the problem,” Snoke intoned. “It isn’t her strength that is making you fail, it is your weakness

[After Snoke gives the Official Okie-Dokie™ to use the Starkiller Weapon]

“Daring to disagree, Ren took a step forward. “No—Supreme Leader, I can get the map from the girl, and that will be the end of it. I just need your guidance.”

And you promised me when it came to destroying the Resistance you wouldn’t fail me.” The threatening figure of Snoke leaned toward Ren….

“Kylo Ren. It appears a reminder is in order.”

Later, when Ben is angry at himself for having protested]

He had reacted poorly to what had happened earlier, and that had been reflected in the Supreme Leader’s judgment…he gritted his teeth, angry at himself.

[And finally, this exchange represents their relationship in a nutshell, where Snoke appeals to Ben through a bond of dependency and apparent “care”]

“When next Snoke spoke there was an intimacy in his voice, a familiarity that stood in sharp contrast to the commanding tone he had used with Hux.”

Here’s something else I found to be of interest—it’s not a scene between mentor and pupil, but I find it to be enlightening towards their dynamic nonetheless. This scene happens right after Rey’s interrogation, when he is shaken, confused, and then approached by a Stromtrooper:

“…the trooper halted. His evident discomfort at having to speak to Ren bolstered his superior’s shaken persona”

This boost that Ben gets from the troopers unease can be taken as him relishing what little control he has in his current environment. He is constantly under Snoke’s scrutiny and supremacy, making him feel weak, like a child, so the only time he ever feels in control is if he is in a position of power or control over someone else (by instilling fear in them, same as Snoke does to him).

Now lets talk about another way in which Snoke ensures Ben remains loyal to him: by constantly telling the boy that he’s “special” and filling his head with delusions of ‘purpose’ and ‘destiny’. This method of manipulation is too often a tool used by manipulators and cult leaders to secure curiosity and eventual allegiance. The Supreme Leader would have gotten Ben into a position, very early on, of believing that those around him neglected, abandoned, and devalued him by weaving elaborate lies mixed with partial-truths.

With Leia, she had the New Republic + the First Order to juggle. Han didn’t understand his Force-wielding/brainwashed son. Luke had the New Generation of Jedi to take priority. But with Snoke, Ben is told he finally comes first. He is special, and more importantly, needed. He is the favorite in this scenario. Snoke’s intent from the beginning was to purposefully isolate Ben from others, to let his feelings of loneliness and abandonment and worthlessness eat him alive, only to come swooping in at the most crucial moment to Save the Day. And from then on, whenever the need arises, to drop reminders of how “special” Ben is, how “unique”, how “important”.

This particular exchange in the novel highlights Snoke using this method:

“I have never had a student with such promise—before you.”

Ren straightened. “It is your teachings that make me strong, Supreme Leader”

Snoke demurred. “It is far more than that. It is where you are from. What you are made of. The dark side—and the light. The finest sculptor cannot fashion a masterpiece from poor materials. He must have something pure, something strong, something unbreakable, with which to work. I have—you.”

Gross, gross, gross, gross. Makes my skin crawl. It’s also self-explanatory. I mean see this post or even this post for possible reasons on why this method would be so successful for Snoke’s goals (in regards to Ben). Make the kid think he’s special and the only one capable of finishing Grandpa’s good works and he’ll feel driven by his once-in-a-thousand-years-uniqueness to do something “great” and “meaningful”.

***These are the exact same things Palps did to Anakin (albeit Ani was an adult with agency at the time it started whereas Ben was a defenseless child). Ol’ Palps isolated Ani from his support system by feeding him lies about how those around him (Jedi Council, Obi-Wan) neither understood, trusted, or appreciated him and his abilities, all while steering The Chosen One towards himself because he understands, he appreciates, he cares.***

Also to be mentioned are some of the instances in which Ben seems to display some aspects of Stockholm Syndrome (the condition where a captive and/or abuse victim ends up empathizing or defending said captor/abuser as a mode of survival). This is most evident when Han comes to save his son: Han attempts to reason with Ben by saying that Snoke is using him and doesn’t actually care about Ben—Ben responds by defending Snoke and calling him “wise”, even though deep down he feels that Han’s words ring true. He seems, more than anything, to be trying to convince himself that Snoke is in the right and that Han doesn’t know what he’s talking about (lest he deal with the frightening reality that everything Snoke filled his head with were lies).

I know this is already long, but I really wanted to end this piece with the following excerpt from the novelization, which takes place after Snoke has just told Ben that BB-8 is on the Falcon and he questions his students loyalty:

“My allegiance is with you. No one will stand in our way.”

Snoke nodded. “We shall see. We shall see.”

…When he was gone, a grotesque smile twisted across Snoke’s countenance.

We already knew that Snoke was cunning, evil, and a master strategist. We knew that he was willing to go through any means necessary to achieve his desires. But that last line solidifies that Snoke is having fun. He hasn’t just been building a human weapon for the sake of it, he has been enjoying taking this kid apart and watching him fall prey to all the insecurities and lies that have filled his head for three decades. Snoke has made a game out of this kids life.

20 reasons why I love Superman

In order to celebrate Superman Day today, June 12th, I decided to share with all of you a list of 20 reasons why I love Superman.

But before I start I must say that the order displayed here does not mean any type of preference. I love everything about Supes. Therefore, these 20 reasons are parts of a whole.

Robespierre on War and Peace (18 December 1791)

To war! cry the Court and the Ministry and their countless partisans. To war! The cry is taken up by large numbers of good citizens, prompted by a generous impulse and more prone to yield to the enthusiasm of patriotic feeling than to reflect soberly on the mechanism of revolutions and on the intrigues of their rulers. Who will dare to resist the compulsion of this cry? No one, unless it be those who are convinced of the need for mature deliberation before embarking on a step so fateful for the safety of the State and the future of the Constitution, those who have observed that it is to the precipitation and enthusiasm of a moment that have been due the measures which, by promoting the plans and increasing the power of our enemies, have been the most disastrous and the most compromising to our liberties; those who know that the part that it behooves all true lovers of their country to play is to sow in one season in order to reap in another and to seek in experience the triumph of truth.

I do not come here to applaud momentarily popular opinions, nor to flatter those in authority; neither do I come to preach a doctrine of cowardice, nor to advise a fainthearted policy of weakness and inertia. But I come to expose a deep-rooted conspiracy, with which I think I am somewhat familiar. I, too, want war but in a way demanded by the national interest: let us first destroy our enemies within and then march against the enemy without, if any still remains.

The Court and the Ministry want both war and the execution of the plan they propose to you. The nation will accept the war if it is the necessary price of liberty; but it wants, if possible, both liberty and peace and it rejects any plan for a war whose object might be to destroy liberty and the Constitution, even if it is put forward under the pretext of defending them.

Poetic Harmony: Explore Andrei Tarkovsky’s Cinematic Style

One of the masters of cinema, Andrei Tarkovsky was on the quest to answer what cinema as an art form could achieve. His films urge us to see the artistic nature of cinema. The opening of Poetic Harmony by Channel Criswell asks and elaborates, What words would best describe a Tarkovsky film. Haunting? Ethereal? Hypnotic? Serene? Tarkovsky was a one of a kind artist whose works have become instantly recognizable through their masterful spellbinding imagery and the atmosphere oozing from their pause. If I were asked who makes pure cinema, one of the first names that would spring to mind is Andrei Tarkovsky. Cinema possesses its own language, believed Tarkovsky, and it is through the creative use of that language that a filmmaker can create a distinct cinematic style. Through Poetic Harmony, we explore Andrei Tarkovsky’s cinematic style and arrive closer to what qualities make his images stand out, the meaning behind his works, and more. As Lewis Bond narrates in the video essay, If there’s one thing I want to achieve with this video, it’s to give people a greater understanding and appreciation of Tarkovsky’s approach.

If you ask me what influence I have received from names like, for example, Bresson, Antonioni, Bergman, Kurosawa, Mizoguchi…I must say none. I have no desire to imitate them. Because it would be impossible to do so, And more, if my goal was the imitation of great directors, I would be distancing myself from the true goal of cinema, since the main goal of any kind of art is to find a personal means of expression, a language with which to express what’s inside of you.

When we think of pure cinema we think of a stylistic approach to film that emphasizes film’s unique devices like visual composition and motion, the relationship between sound and image, and rhythmic editing in order to engage the audience in an experience that only films can give you: a cinematic experience. Visual means over dialogue to create impact. Tarkovsky’s approach to filmmaking was to utilize techniques that are uniquely cinematic in order to communicate emotions, to do with cinema and its film language what can not be done in other art forms, and it is through this method that he too directs himself towards an important quality of his filmmaking philosophy.

By focusing on the language of film throughout his filmmaking career, Tarkovsky gave rise to a specific signature, a cinematic style all his own, and we realize how important this was to him when he says, despite his admiration for great filmmakers: If during my work I find that a shot or a take might resemble what has already been done by another great director, I modify the scene to prevent that it may happen. An inspiration to artists and filmmakers, Tarkovsky believed that artists and filmmakers give to their respective art forms and pioneer them by establishing and maintaining their individuality and personal visions.

Let’s explore Andrei Tarkovsky’s cinematic style.

On the Elements of Tarkovsky’s Film Language

Tarkovsky’s visual language was consistent across his career. Recurring elements in his images were frequent. Composition was often one of Tarkovsky’s most captivating trademarks, possibly due to his background as a photographer. But the first thing I notice about the Tarkovsky look is an element in composition that is referenced less than framing, staging, or balance: texture. Sometimes images are most effective when they draw you into their world, and if I can visually feel something, that world instantly becomes tactile. Tarkovsky likes to project the real world, so many of his textures are made through naturalistic components–the embers of a coal fire, a water log home, the elements. Textures add great visual interest to a scene. Something as simple as dust floating through the air can make what was a basic shot more dynamic.

But not only do rusted walls and marshland gain our attention, they intensify the emotions inside the image. The settings that Tarkovsky shoots include some kind of rhythmic pattern, like a rugged backdrop or an even ground. He utilizes some sort of alien material that surrounds the character, and when you include an element encapsulating the subject that contains a certain grit, subconsciously all emotion feels heightened. That’s why we see moments of high drama take place in the rain. Or if you want to give a particular item a sense of gravitas, crinkled pages and jagged bombs will remain in the mind of the viewer. Any subject in the frame has this effect. Making it feel real makes it feel relevant. Tarkovsky uses textures in a way that they develop these associations to the viewer. Rising smoke and tattered fabric may look good but the emotional intensity that an intangible ingredient can bring is far greater.

Most of Tarkovsky’s methods above else were used to create atmosphere, and his moods can not only be seen, they can be heard. One thing about Tarkovsky films is that they’re some of the quietest films you’ll ever see. Silence is a great way to build anticipation for something, and a contrast of silence with noise is a terrific juxtaposing technique, but Tarkovsky typically settles on a middleground between the two. When creating a scene, Tarkovsky isolates one sound and enhances it. It could be the dripping of water or the crackling of fire…He chooses the elements that have great significance to his subject at that time. The character may not remember everything about a single event, but they may remember the sound of their heartbeat.

On the Meanings of His Films

Tarkovsky’s films are mostly assembled through intuition. The notion of order in life is an abstract one, and this is reflected in his cinematic streams of consciousness. His films don’t come with prepackaged deductions. In there lies truth but one that must remain unknown to audience and artist alike.

Tarkovsky’s aim was to have the audience discover meaning for themselves, and when the methods of a director remain a mystery to the audience, they’re inclined to find significance in that reality. We think further on that which we don’t understand.

It’s the way Tarkovsky brings the real world into the film to garner an immediate emotional response from the viewer. We’ve been taught to search for answers but sometimes a scene is what it is. The question isn’t why does something happen but what does it mean to the character. Tarkovsky isn’t asking us to find a definite answer in his work. He asks that we embrace the emotions that the subject feels. Rain doesn’t mean anything, but it might to the character.

Tarkovsky tells his stories by having the emotion of cinema manifest itself to us directly and did this by building character through action. Without a word spoken, what makes us understand helplessness better than a woman sitting on a well watching her livelihood burn in front of her eyes. Once it’s understood that Tarkovskian cinema is instinctive rather than logical, whose events simply show us what resonates with the characters, his techniques become much clearer. In the words of David Lynch, “I don’t know why people expect art to make sense when they accept the fact that life doesn’t make sense.”

On Camera-Work and Editing

Tarkovsky rejected the theory of montage put forth by Eisenstein. It focused too much on the intellectual and interferes with cinema’s emotional side…All the events we see are merely what the character deems significant to oneself…This is why the past, the present, dreams, and reality all coagulate into one another in Tarkovsky’s work. They’re all scenes that don’t have immediate relevancy. They’re simply a mist, a collection of significant moments that were vital in shaping our character.

Most of Tarkovsky’s techniques demonstrate the importance of showing what is significant to the character. This can even be seen in his camera-work. In many scenes, the camera takes on a subjective role whose movements practically mimic the viewers. In moments that peak our interest, the camera will slowly begin to track inwards, as though it’s leaning in due to interest. It is as though the camera is the physical form of our character’s train of thought.

But perhaps the most notable aspect of Tarkovsky’s visual style is his use of long takes…Tarkovsky was adamant in making the audience feel the importance of each passing moment–give a shot enough time and meaning will be formed of its own accord but editing can disrupt this.

Tarkovsky edits individual scenes based on what he referred to as the pressure of time within a scene. Different to shot length, think of pressure as the atmosphere within a scene. As more time passes, the atmosphere builds, and once the atmosphere as reached its zenith then you cut. But if lingering on a subject longer will continue to build pressure within a scene, then do so…Through forcing the audience to be aware of the fabric of time itself, Tarkovsky elevates his powerful atmospheres.

Tarkovsky asks that we embrace a style of storytelling that reflects a state of mind, a refractive layer of consciousness, to conjure an emotion and let the camera do the talking.
