in a world full of lions

Ok but I’ve been binge watching the Narnia movies again, after not having seen them for a long ass time, and now, being a little older and (hopefully) a little more mature than I was when I first saw them, I always feel physically sick when I see the Pevensies being children after The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe because they just aren’t anymore and I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like, to grow up as kings and queens, respected and important, and full of duty, only to go back to being 8 years old (in Lucy’s case).

They didn’t remember England, or the wardrobe, or their old lives, they were Narnians and they were pushed back, not only into a world that was bound to make them miserable, but also into bodies that couldn’t reflect what they’d been through.

Just imagine Peter, waking up in the morning, not remembering that he isn’t the Magnificent anymore, imagine him subconsciously reaching for something to trim his beard, only to remember that it isn’t there anymore, to expect old battle wounds to hurt until he realises that they can’t because he doesn’t have them.

Or Edmund, who left England a stubborn selfish little boy who only wanted his mummy back, and came back the Just, the redeemed traitor, the diplomat, the man, having to resort to being ten years old and probably not even allowed to peek at a newspaper because he’s just a child after all. He plays chess, incredibly well, he doesn’t mock his siblings anymore and all the friends he knew when he was still a boy are either irritated at his behaviour or too childish, too selfish for somebody who knows very well just what selfishness can do, who has a part of the White Witch in him, always.

Susan forgets, we all know that. She must’ve lain awake at night, remembering just what it felt like to cover pain and viciousness and gore with a smile and a blush, remembering being the Gentle, but never in war. She must’ve cried for all the lost years, for all that she learnt and that she can never forget, for all that she has accomplished, that will bring her nothing in this world that doesn’t feel like hers. So she sits down in front of a mirror, talks herself out of believing, telling herself that it wasn’t real, that it was just a dream, that this Narnia her siblings talk about is nothing but a game.
The truth is too terrifying, to devastating to face.

Lucy, little Lucy, who grew up under Mr Tumnus’ smiles and Aslan’s approving gaze, who was loved by all, who did learn how to rule, how to negotiate but who never forgot just what it means to be a queen of Narnia, this girl who matured into a woman, who had a woman’s mind and body and a queen’s grace, she who they called the Valiant, the lion’s daughter, she shrank into herself, into a child, younger than even her siblings. She remembers, clearest of them all, she is the only one who still knows Mr Tumnus’ face, still knows Aslan, but she is just a girl, a pretty little thing who will never be the queen she was, who will never be the woman she was because queenship forms a person in ways no schools can.

They must’ve been devastated when they tumbled to the floor, short and small, and there’s a war they have no control over and Lucy is small, Edmund is skinny, so skinny and Peter and Susan have lost their glow and they’ve changed, they’ve changed so much. (The first time, somebody calls them by just their names, they feel invalidated and small. And offended. They’re kings and queens, they’ve earned their titles and now they have to sit in a dim room filled with children and listen to teachers, have to allow themselves to be insignificant and nothing more than what they were when Lucy first stepped into Narnia - frightened children in the middle of a war they wish was never there in the first place)

It has certainly been a week, folks

On the up, up, up

  • (K-Pop) Twice hops, skips, and jumps six spots to No. 4 thanks to their first full album, Twicetagram.
  • (Music) Last week the world briefly came to a full stop when the news broke that Beyoncé (No. 3) is playing Nala in the upcoming The Lion King.
  • (Web Stuff) There’s no mystery here: Buzzfeed Unsolved (@buzzfeedunsolved) is good, and that’s why it rose to No. 8.

The Zodiac Signs’ Deeply Buried Truths and Dreams

To understand a zodiac sign’s motives, you must understand the workings of their mind and heart. Dreams and ideals can help to grasp their patterns of behaviour which would otherwise be inexplicable to us.

*use sun, moon or dominant sign

The Fire Signs (Aries, Leo & Sagittarius)

A fire sign’s fantasy world begins where the fairytale book ends. It’s a realm of romance and myth. In fact, the fiery signs mythologize everyday-life to a large extent and transform their reality into a stage where everybody plays their part. Their fantasies can be quite black and white, full of clichés and old and well-known tales. When their lives lack drama, they simply project their brilliantly colorful dreams onto the people or situations in their surrounding. They can not stand the grey dullness of the emprical world and their minds are the best escape.

The Aries’ fantasies are of a quite chivalric nature as, deep down, they are knights in shining armor looking for a noble cause or a damsel in distress. For them the Age of Courtly Love is not over and they live according to the rules of the Round Table or the Order of the Garter as their dreams revolve around honour, loyalty and praise. Aries needs adventure, a lost cause to participate in, a war to fight, a heart to win back, otherwise they grow cold and experience psychic indigestion.

Leos love to create myths and stories concerning their self. They are highly idealistic and envision a world where good is purely good and bad is purely bad - they don’t really see grey shadows or the subtleties of human nature. The lion wants to be the hero or the heroine, anyone really who is respected, looked up to and appreciated. Their dreams are full of romanticism and love they pour into their beloved subjects/children/objects of affection and about the tenderness they receive in return.

Like their arrows, Sagittarius’ visions are aimed at some distant future or a faraway possibility. In the centaur’s dreams nothing has limits and their abilities and possible journeys are endless. It’s hard for them to cope with people telling them that something is impossible because they strongly believe that every goal can be reached, no matter how absurd it sounds. What really drives a Sagittarius are unexplored paths, unexplicable mysteries and a sense of anticipation that lingers in the air. Because of that boundless realm in their head, the centaur understands that life is meaningful and that everything teaches a lesson and encourages growth but the light of their visions can rarely be transformed into reality.

The Earth Sings (Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn)

The fantastic and uncomprehensible world exists for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn as well but unlike the fire signs, earth signs tend to not recognize it as a part of their actual life but as something supernatural. They are terribly afraid of disorder which is why most of them will opress their imagination and dreams rather than embrace them. And while they know almost everything about the world surrounding them, spirituality and fantasy have the potential for them to come to terms with their inner self. They probably really need and want to retreat in a realm of dreams but they often feel too occupied with everyday-life and therefore guilty “wasting” their time drowning in fantasy.

Taurus needs to escape into a world of beauty from time to time. When the reality is too cold or things just do not seem to work out, they like to drown in things which are exquisite and beautiful, either physically or with their mind. If they can’t have their real piece of luxury they like to think about times when they will or had and just generally knowing about all the art in the world, like paintings, music or good food keeps them going. They are one of the most sceptic signs and the ones who value the known and reliable most, so it is most likely that their dreams revolve around something they can actually capture with their senses.

Virgos are quite romantic and imaginative souls but they are not idealistic like most of the water and air signs. Their minds are neatly and orderly arranged knowledge gained through quiet observing and silent curiosity. Their oftentimes cold or brusque exterior is a protection for the possible gunshots reality could take at them. Their safe haven is a mind that has a resolution for every situation, where every thing is coloured and structured in its realest, most detailed form to shut out all dangers from outside. Virgos wish the world were a more equal and better place but they have to protect themselves before they can help others.

Achievement to Capricorn is what romance is to the fire signs. Without goals and challenges, a Capricorn can grow cold and be thrown headfirst into depression because this unfriendly world can not offer him meaning anymore. The most mysterious of the earth signs, known as ambitious, working and plodding, is a magician, a chaser of mysteries in disguise. A true Capricorn knows how to make peace with the earth, and, in the end, all their hard labour is just a steppingstone to a more profound, reflected and introspective side to their nature. Once they have learned how to live in this world, they can use their newly found freedom to pursue their love of the mysteries, which, for them, revolve around all the energies that govern life.

The Air Signs (Gemini, Libra & Aquarius)

Air signs are the children amongst the zodiac and there is no one quite so familiar with the existence of wonders like a child. They have an incredible emotional depth and are incurable romantic at heart. Every emotional experience they make is profound and meaningful and immediately valued as one with an idealistic outcome. Gemini, Libra and Aquarius lack a certain worldliness because they seem to understand nearly everything. But all the mysteries and secrets of the world can only be understand by them when matched with a correlating system like religion or occult. They need to understand in order to be sane which is why some mysteries (the truly inexplicable ones) will never cease to fascinate but scare them.

A true Gemini is an eternal child. The world will never cease to overwhelm and amaze them and they will make it their life-long mission to gather broad and comprehensive knowledge about it. Geminis learn for the sole delight of self-taught wisdom and quenching that unbearable thirst that seems to be part of their nature. In-depth analyses are something you will not ever see a Gemini make because there is so much the universe can still teach and they simply have no time to think about something for too long. So it is no suprise that the twins are the least introspective of the signs, the vast pool of wonders around them is more important than sitting down and thinking about one’s own motives.

A Libra’s life is seen through a tinted glass that shows all the bauty it can contain. Like the true children of Venus that they are, Libras seek the Beautiful, the Good and the True and their dreams revolve around a world in which every being has their perfectly fitting counterpart and ordinary life is lifted to idealistic heights. Most of them feel like a part of them is missing and will never stop believing in finding perfection in form of a worthy companion, fulfilling job or just general happiness. Their quest for the Good and Beautiful can seem like hollow flattery to the more sceptic signs like Capricorn and Scorpio but dreamers will appreciate their efforts to preserve fantasies rather than destroy them with a brutal truth that is rarely ever absolute anyways.

Aquarius’ ideals mean everything to them and they would gladly give their life for the realization of their dream about universal love, equality, a brighter future. Without the ideas of an Aquarius, no real progress can take place, like their symbol the Waterbearer they offer the water of life to humanity. Their dreams are their ideals and their ideals are their reality. But while Aquarians always have an inept sense of the big picture, they lack comprehension for the personal and that makes it incredibly difficult for them to not only be humanitarian but also a fearlessly feeling human.

The Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces)

To the water signs everything is motivated by feeling as they move in the world with instinct, at home with what is irrational and inexplicable. Their reality is made entirely from what they feel and they subconciously assign an emotion to literally everything. Their own world contains a whole universe of dreams and fantasies and they mean so much to them because they are stuffed with profound truths that are part of a water sign’s core personality. They oppose the logical and rational values of our time and the processes of the intellect which are typically assigned to the air signs. They speak the language of the heart or  gut (which is a water sign’s most powerful tool).

Like their symbol the crab, Cancers’ home is the border between earth and water. They need the security of dry land like commitment, promises and truths but they also feel a strong pull towards the depths of the ocean of imagination. Their dreams and longings oftentimes revolve around stability, being needed and loved and the emotional subtleties underlying their fantasies are important for a Cancer’s personal and introspective growth. But individuals born under this sign are painfully self-protective, so do not expect them to talk to you about their secret longings and even if they do, be aware of them not telling you the whole truth.

While the element of air is idealistic, water signs are more realistic and especially Scorpios know that ideals are important but life is different. They are as sensitive as their watery companions and possess the same emotional awareness but they can not afford romance because they are painfully aware of the human nature not only being great but also very animalistic and vicious. No other sign understands the shadows of being human as good as Scorpio and no one accepts and embraces the darkness as willingly. After all, there is nothing else to do. What really drives this sign is the will to make something of themselves as they want to find the profound truth of their being.

Pisces is the true sign of the mystic and they desperately need and are aware of another reality, a magical, elusive world which makes ordinary life meaningless. A lot of people born under the fishes are deeply religious (not necessary in an orthodox way) as they hold on to practices that are concerned with a side of life that is uncomprehensible, vast and profound. Unlike their watery fellows, Pisces’ sensitivity and deep wisdom about the futility of human behaviour is focused more outward and people with this sign are generally not as concerned with their own well-being and more focused on the hapiness of those around them.

This part is so heartbreaking for me because for the first time we see how lonely Keith really is. He was orphaned early in his life and has lived alone for so long, so he doesn’t have any of the attachments the others do. He had no parents to love him and he was kicked out of the Garrison so suddenly. Even then he was a loner, and he still is the lone wolf of Voltron. His lion chose him because he is distant and hot tempered. I have a feeling that he is full of so much anger because he had no one to make him feel happy in his life. Even when he was at the Garrison he kept to himself, alone at the top, not even having Lance as a friend because of their supposed “rivalry”.

Aside from Shiro, Hunk, Lance, Pidge, Red, Allura, and Coran, he has no one that he cares for. Team Voltron is his whole world. Even when they were doing that mind exercise, the only thing occupying his thoughts were memories of being alone in his sad little shack. Isolation is the only thing he knows. He says that everyone in the universe has a family. And everyone does. Everyone except for him. He has nobody that loves him.

So when Hunk and Pidge were so eager to leave in favor of going back to their families he couldn’t understand it. He thought it was selfish to abandon their mission just to go back to someone you loved, but he had no idea how it felt to have people to return to. So I just find this scene so sad because Keith is all alone and now the only people he’s ever truly cared for are thinking about leaving him all over again.

And the worst part of it is that we all know he’s going to be revealed to be half Galra in season two. So that pretty much means that the tiny piece of family that he does have will be the enemy, the very aliens they have been trying to defeat this entire time. It will break him, because he can’t even enjoy finally having some family since they are trying to kill the only people he has ever cared about. I just have so many feelings about Keith Kogane.

This post from a year ago has been going around about me, so I figured I would re-introduce myself!!

My name is Josh, and I am tumblr user @seem!  I am 19, and I currently live in California!  This is my face after climbing Castle Crags.  I might of had the flu…and had no idea we were going on a hike…and then it was 3 miles straight up that mountain  So this is my face of victory on top! (yall…there are approximately 0 mountains in Ohio)

Some things you should know about me:  I grew up in Ohio with 5 siblings.  I was the 5th of 6.  We were all homeschooled because my family was running an organization in Kenya and we were going back and forth.  My sister started an orphanage there that houses 40 kids and runs a school for the deaf that houses 100!  I lived there with her for 4 months when I was 16 and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life!  I am also a speed reader.  When I’m motivated I can read 7-8 full length books a week.  I’m obsessed with chipotle.  I don’t own any pants.  One time I got stung by a jellyfish and was rushed to the hospital.  When I was 10 I thought I was pregnant.  I’ve seen 30 lions have sex and almost got killed by elephants.  I have this emotional connection with tassels.  I have a dog named Zeke and he is my entire world.  My goal in life is to spend at least a week in every country on earth.

So this is Josh!  And my blog is mostly about nature/travel!!  I’m looking for a bunch more people to follow because I need more nature/humor on my dashboard!!  I’ll check out every blog that follows me/reblogs this post!!  You’ll probably get a message from me about how much I love you too because y’all are amazing.  And if you want more of my tragic backstory feel free to message me! 💕💕💕

anonymous asked:

can you write some lance with chronic pain? :3

Here you go! I hope you enjoy it!

At first, the pain was bearable; the idea that the aching would run its course and he would be back to normal soon created a sense of hope within the boy. As the weeks went by, however, his hope started to dwindle steadily. The constant shooting pain traveling down his back started creating a wall against him, making him unable to function properly. Although he had been living like this since being caught in the explosion at the beginning of their voyage to space a number of months ago, it was only recently that the other paladins began to notice the changes in their blue boy’s behaviour.

“Come on Lance, you can do this,” Shiro encouraged from the sideline with the rest of their team. They were sparring against the gladiators today, focusing on their hand to hand combat one on one. Lance carefully dodged the robots first few swipes of the staff, he was able to bring his bayard up to counter a few of the attacks. He went to dodge the next hit when his back seized up and he was unable to bend the way he wanted to. He caught the butt of the staff in the legs toppling him over and landed with a wheeze on the floor.

“End training sequence,” Shiro called after letting out a tired sigh. Lance pushed himself up and looked over at Shiro shame in his eyes.

“Lance you’ve done this eight times today but the results are all the same, why are you improving?” He asked. Lance looked down at the ground and only looked up when Shiro turned away.

“We’re ending here for the day, rest up,” He announced to the room before sending one last disappointed stare Lance’s way. Lance could feel his throat closing up in guilt and he curled his shoulders into himself. He could hear the others leaving and looked up to see only Keith left.

“When are you going to take this seriously?” Keith spat. Lance winced and curled up further and looked at him wearily. “This isn’t a game, this is war,”

“I know,” Lance tried to defend himself but was cut off.

“If you know, then you know not to treat training like a joke,” he said shortly before leaving the training deck. Lance could only stare after Keith, the guilt only building in his stomach. Another few weeks passed after the training incident and he could feel his mood decreasing every day; the happy, eager to please young man couldn’t keep the smile on his face, the pain causing him to become bitter and irritable to the others.

“Are you okay man?” Hunk asked one afternoon. He noticed that Lance was stirring around his food goo and had yet to consume one bite.

“Fine,” Lance bit out glaring down at the green gel in front of him. Hunk’s eyebrows furrowed in worry and he put down the bowl in his hand approaching his best friend.

“Are you sure, you’ve been acting really weird for a while now,” He added leaning on the counter between the two of them.

“I said I’m fine,” Lance practically growled stabbing his food with his spoon.

“Well, I’m just saying that if you need to talk to anyone, I’m he-”  Hunk started only to be cut off.

“Would you shut up?! I said I’m fine!” Lance yelled at the shocked Hunk. “Stop sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong!”

“Fine,” Hunk frowned angrily. “You don’t need to be so rude about it,” He walked out of the kitchen without a second glance. Lance looked at the door for a few minutes before putting his head in his hands.

“What the hell is wrong with me?” He whispered to himself trying to ignore the throbbing in his back. His head pounded as well, the lack of sleep catching up to him. He would roll around for hours trying to find a comfortable position to rest in. He mourned the relationship he had with his teammates; his recent behaviour had driven them away from him and he doubted that he would be able to regain their trust and loyalty back so easily. He could see Shiro disappointed shake of the head, Keith and Allura’s angry scowls after all his failed training attempts, and Hunk and Pidge’s annoyed glares after he treated them so unkindly over the past few days. He slunk back to his room, praying that he would be able to get a decent amount of sleep for their mission tomorrow. He curled up underneath his blanket, trying to ignore the sensations of pain.

Although the mission was simple; it was imperative that everything goes off without a hitch. The information stored in this outpost would lead the team to even more Galra prisons, that could potentially house Sam Holt. Lance laid on his stomach in the rafters above his teammates; Pidge who was hacking through the system and the others who were protecting her. He shot anything who got close enough to damage the machine. A Galra soldier was sneaking up beside the machine, Lance chuckled at the easy shot and lined them up with the crosshairs. As he went to squeeze the trigger, spasms started traveling down his back making him freeze. His teeth ground together and his eyes rolled into the back of his head at the pain paralyzing him. He missed the Galra smashing the machine thwarting Pidge’s progress, she pulled the drive out of the computer and joined in on the fight. Lance blinked back tears as he came back to the real world, noticing the trouble his friends were in he started laying down cover fire. They fought through back to the lions and took off back to the Castle. Lance gritting his teeth the whole way; his back felt like it was on fire, the spasms weren’t completely gone and it took all he had not to shout out loud. He slowly walked out of Blue and was immediately crowded by the others.

“What the hell Lance!?” Keith shouted. “You had one job!”
Lance shrunk back, the guilt in his stomach coming back full force.

“I-I,” he stuttered out.

“No excuses this time Lance,” Shiro said sternly. Lance’s mouth opened and closed uselessly as he glanced from one paladin to the other. A shout came from across the hanger where Pidge sat on her computer; she sprinted across to join the group.

“We got no data!” She yelled in his face. “All that work for nothing!” Lance’s eyes widened and he tried to explain himself over the sound of everyone else’s accusations. The stress from the past pain filled months caught up with him. The exhaustion of sleepless nights, and the helplessness he felt paired with the guilt building up from every failed training exercise and mission boiled over. A shudder wracked up his frame and his lip began trembling as he pulled it into his teeth. A sob escaped him as tears began to flow over his cheeks, he clutched his sides in his hands as the spasms continued. The paladins quieted and they watched the blue paladin break down in front of them in confusion.

“I-I’m s-sorry,” He hiccuped. “M-my back just h-h-hurts so bad,” he explained. Shiro immediately stepped forwards worry on his face.

“What? Did you get hurt during the mission?” He asked. Lance shook his head no and tried to explain.

“S-since the explosion, i-it hurts a-all the t-time,” he sobbed. “I c-can’t sleep, I-I can’t eat,” he walked forward into Shiro’s chest with a sob.

“Why didn’t you tell me? Or Coran?” He asked eyebrows furrowed in worry for the teenager.

“I didn’t k-know if i-it was that im-important,” Lance admitted. Shiro bit his bottom lip between his teeth, as tears filmed over his eyes. His teammate, his friend, had been in pain since they arrived in space and didn’t feel that it was important enough to ask for help. He gently hugged the paladin further into his chest. He could feel how bad Lance was trembling and felt his heart squeeze in sympathy. He picked the paladin up in his arms and started carrying him towards the quarters, the other paladins quietly following behind them.

“Rest up Lance, we can fix this,” Shiro said quietly. Lance could feel his eyelids growing heavy the further Shiro carried him from the hanger. The first signs of comfort for months, walking protectively around him.

Part 2

Pidge: Nice work Tailor
Lance: Thank you, thank you very much
Keith: wait what
Hunk: It’s a nickname Lance got his first year of flight school
Lance: Yeah because of how I thread the needle
Keith: *intense Garrison crush flashbacks*
Shiro: *uproarious laughter*

(I wrote this in two forms and couldn’t decide which I liked better, so there’s a full fic under the cut)

Make It Everlasting So Nothing’s Incomplete by (9k)

Trying to be conspicuous so he doesn’t startle him, Harry sidles up to Louis and asks, “How’s it going?”

“Alright,” Louis muses, turning his head so he can smile at Harry. “I wish there were explanations about what each of the flowers mean on labels or something, though.”

A thrill runs up Harry’s spine, and he can’t quite temper the grin that spreads across his face as he asks, “Well, I could tell you, if you’d like?”

“Oh, only if you have time, I don’t want to keep you away from your work -”

“Louis,” Harry laughs, gesturing around the empty shop. “There is nobody here and, as luck would have it, there is literally nothing I would like more than to talk to you about flowers.”

your heart is glowing (and i’m crashing into you) by anyadisee (11k)

If this were a fairytale, maybe even a Young Adult novel or a chick flick, this would be the moment where Louis would stare right into his soul and whisper, “You. It’s you, Harry,” before pulling him in for a kiss right there and then in the middle of the sidewalk. They’d confess their never-ending love for each other then hold hands for the rest of the walk home, and then they’d go to uni together and become the ultimate power couple of their campus. They’d start a family together a few years after they graduate, find a large house somewhere nice and preferably warm, get two pet dogs and five cats, and then adopt enough children to start a football team. If only men could get pregnant as well, Harry thinks wistfully. He’d love to carry Louis’ babies given the chance.

But. This isn’t a fairytale, nor is it a movie based off the latest YA bestseller. This is real life.

(harry is in love with love, volunteers to hand out valentine gifts for a week, and somehow becomes the football captain’s secret admirer.)

Miraculous Ladybug and Voltron Roles (and everything after)

So the Miraculous crew get flung into space riding on a Blue Lion, crossing the universe to a mysterious Castle, and into a war that spans millennia—a war they never knew about. Here’s what happened next.

·      Tikki (Princess Allura) and Plagg (Coran) have the most powerful weapon in the universe at their fingers, but it’s not their destiny to wield it. Luckily, five teenage pilots unintentionally stumble through their front door, awaken them from a 10,000 year nap, and proceed to shake the very foundations of space and time. Tikki, connected to the Lions and has a strong bond with quintessence itself, knows exactly where each pilot will thrive, eventually growing into the Paladins the universe needs.

·      Marinette is the Black Lion, the head of Voltron. She’s a tricky one—impulsive and trusts her instincts—nearly a good fit for the Red Lion, but she’s exactly the strategic, decisive head that Voltron needs. She’s meant to be leader—and it’ll be a journey to reach her full potential—but that’s part of the fun anyway. (She’s exactly where Keith would be at the end of Season 2 of Voltron in Shiro’s absence, which makes it all the more fun).

·      Chloe is the Red Lion, a supernova that burns bright. Temperamental at the worst of times, passionate at best—she’s a spitfire intent on raging into the world like a shooting star. Only she can tame the Red Lion, and once she has her hands on the controls, there’s nothing stopping her in the heat of battle. But she has a lot to grow before she comes into her role as Paladin, from spoiled Princess of the Garrison to a Paladin of Volron—but only time can tell what the future has in store for her.

·      Alya is the Green Lion, as the tech-savy journalist of the group. Whether she’s chasing a story or a conspiracy, she’s got the highly inquisitive mind and the daring nature that the Green Lion embodies. Always hunting for answers, going out of her way for the truth, a thirst for knowledge that burns deep—it’s why her and Green have one of the tightest bonds of the bunch. She’s a natural born Paladin, and that’s just what the universe needs.

·      Adrien is the Yellow Lion, with his sunshine smile and sparkling eyes. He’s always been quick to raise his friends up, supporting them and defending them when the need calls. The Yellow Lion holds the armor and defense to protect its team, and Adrien wouldn’t think twice before throwing himself in front of a shot to protect anyone he cares about. With the strongest and most resilient Lion, Adrien always answers the call of duty and does whatever it takes to protect the team.

·      Nino is the Blue Lion without question. The Blue Lion is the most open of the Voltron lions—friendliest and most accepting, just like Nino. The boy who took a chance to see the real Adrien behind the “famous model” mask, and welcomed him into a friendship with open arms, it’s no wonder the Blue Lion did the same for Nino. He flows like water—easy going and adaptable, with the confidence to muster nearly any situation—and is truly the heart of Voltron. Open and honest, Nino fits the key ingredients to pilot the Blue Lion.

·      The Paladins accept their duties after a stunning and deadly battle that nearly destroyed the Arusian homeworld, knowing that to step away might sentence Earth to the same devastation the Galra spread to numerous other planets, the same that cost Tikki and Plagg their people, their planet, and everyone they loved. It’s hard though, as Earth was their home and their families remain behind, with questions unanswered and no bodies to bury.

·      Marinette misses home the most deeply—she aches for it like a missing limb. With only her mother and father, their little family was a close-knit one, and the fact that she can’t go back—may never go back, though no one will ever say it out loud—hurts her more than any of Tikki’s wild training exercises. She’ll stand in the control room, watching the star map twist planets and stars around one another in a celestial dance, a soft blue glow painted over her face, with a small frown as the only sign that something deeply troubles her. She’ll never tell the team, except for maybe Alya. She already struggles with being their leader, and one more chink in her armor might give Chloe the chance to make a crater.

·      Adrien’s job is to be a rock. It’s what his Lion stands for, and it’s a duty he takes pride in. Whether he’s protecting his teammates or acting as their crutch, he’s always by their side as an ever-present guard. Outside of battle, it’s even more clear—especially with Marinette. He supports her in her journey to become the leader that Voltron needs. In moments of hesitance and fear, he places a hand on her to offer her stability in the tremulous world they’ve been through in. Outside of Alya, he’s her closest friend. From Adrien, a few words of kindness are all his friends need to curb their worries, fears and insecurities, and any general sadness that might tinge their smiles. He’s the perfect picture of steady and sturdy, but even the rock can have its cracks.

·      Adrien’s story was written in tragedy. It happened a year before, when Adrien was a blossoming young pilot under the Garrison’s eyes, son of the man who would fly the Earth to the farthest reaches of its solar system. Gabriel Agreste and a team of scientists led by Adrien’s mother were assigned the Kerberos mission, the most famous man-driven missions of the Galaxy Garrison, until an incident occurred, and the crew went missing. The Garrison passed the disappearance off as a pilot error, but Adrien, who had learned to pilot under his father’s watchful eye, knew that his father wouldn’t have made a rookie mistake and crashed a ship into a moon. Alya swears the Garrison was covering up the truth behind his parents’ death, but right now, Adrien believes more than anything that his parents would find a way to survive. So, while he’s flying in space with magical robot lion, he’s on the search for answers amidst the stars.

·      Alya’s got her eyes on the prize—looking for answers to the truths the Garrison tried to hide. This villain they’re facing, the Emperor Hawkmoth of the Galran race, wants Voltron for a reason, and she knows she’s seen him mentioned once or twice in the Garrison’s database. Tikki and Plagg have never heard of Earth before, but the Blue Lion was on Earth in the first place. There’s something going on here, and she’s determined to discover the secrets the universe has tried to hide—especially the truth about her mother’s demise and whether the Kerberos crew she was on really did die on a backwater moon of Pluto.

·      Alya spends most of her time immersing in Altean culture in the Castle of Lion’s library. There’s so much to learn about, whether it’s the history of the Voltron lions or how exactly the Blue Lion ended up on Earth and who King Fu (King Alfor) was. Tikki and Plagg are mum when it comes to history, and Alya’s always had a curious streak that might kill her (and Nino who she always manages to drag along). And if her and Nino lose track of time in the dark corner of the library, where a musty smell of age-old books tickles their noses, the rest of the team doesn’t really question it. If anything, at least the two Paladins are growing closer.

·      Nino’s just along for the ride. Spotting Chloe sneaking Adrien out of the Garrison, who was he to let his best buddy be smuggled away in the middle of the night? Course, Alya and Marinette had to be dragged along if Adrien and Nino were involved, if only to protect them all from Chloe’s unique brand of sufferance. In the heat of the moment, only Marinette could knock Chloe down a few pegs, which Chloe could fire right back. Nino, on the other hand, melted into the group like water, filling their spaces and cracks like an ebbing tide that can be tugged in any direction based on whichever moon in his system pulls the strongest. Accepting and open to nearly anyone, he trusts the most and holds the others in the highest regard—he is truly the heart of the team. He’s the only one who sees Adrien’s cracks, who can keep up with Alya’s ideas, who can bridge the divide between Chloe and Marinette, and who can keep Voltron together on the worst of days. Without him, things might just fall apart.

·      Chloe only meant to show Adrien the weird carvings of lions she’d stumbled upon one day while exploring a group of caves her father, as Director of the Garrison, had declared as forbidden territory. It’s dangerous, he’d told her, but since when had her father’s words ever stopped her? Normally she could wrap the man around her little finger, but when it came to her safety, her father wouldn’t move an inch. Naturally, Chloe pushed him off the edge entirely and molded her own path. There was something calling to her when she was out there, something that needed to be found, and Adrien was into the whole conspiracy shit in the first place, so of course she’d show him her discovery. What she hadn’t expected was for the Nerd Herd to come along—that never ended well. And she was right. She meant to show her closest friend some weird cave drawings, and the next thing she knew, they were hurtling across the stars in a magical robot lion. What’s a girl to do?

·      (Getting the Red Lion was a surprise to everyone—including Chloe. She’s not the type to rely on instincts, skill, etc—she was only in the pilot class because she knew her way around a stick and her father was easy to please. But the more time she spends in Red’s cockpit, with the controls in her sweaty palms, chest heaving as she pulls up from a dive… The more she realizes, she was born to fly. She was born to be here—to sit with an old soul who’s just as passionate and fiery as herself. There’s something to be said, Chloe believes, that she feels more alive in space where she has literally nothing, versus back on Earth where she had everything.)

·      They’re a mismatched batch of kids, pilots pulled from Earth in a jaw-dropping, heart-throbbing whirlwind through a wormhole, but… It’s funny, how well they mesh together. It surprises Tikki and Plagg sometimes, who watch with wide eyes as they execute training drills and mission-ready exercises. By all accounts, they should be divided—they’re children pulled into a war they didn’t know about—children who haven’t embraced their roles as Paladins, their bonds with their Lions, or their relations with each other.

·      Marinette and Chloe have butt heads from the beginning. Marinette will NEVER be Chloe’s leader, her superior, or commander, and Marinette will never become friends with Chloe Bourgeois, but these two simple facts prevent them from forming Voltron. Reluctant acceptance would probably best define their relationship—or a necessary evil. But as they form Voltron and take on the Galran forces, it becomes something else entirely. Lke fire and ice, they contrast each other so drastically that Tikki expects one of them to spontaneous combust one of these days, but somehow Marinette and Chloe have found a way to make it work. With Marinette’s strategic thinking and Chloe’s cutthroat tactics, they make the perfect team in combat and on missions. (Though, if Marinette shows even an ounce of weakness, Chloe will strike, and Marinette is always quick to rise to bait). A toxic potion indeed, one might assume, but one that cancels out the poison to become an antidote entirely.

·      Slowly but surely, they’re coming together. They still have a long way to go—a lot to grow into—but Tikki and Plagg are certain that they can save the universe. Whether it’s the mystery of the Agreste family, the truth behind Hawkmoth, the childish bickering or saving the universe in general—Voltron can overcome anything.

·      It’s just gonna take some time—and a wild ride to survive.

Princess of Themyscira: Part 9

Prompt: When the world is invaded and your world is turned upside down, you’re forced to make a choice that will rule your future

Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four. Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight

Your youngest, older brother had always been a bit of a loose cannon. Unpredictable. And of all the people who knew him, it was Dick who knew him best. Damian and Dick had spent a large amount of time together when your father had gone missing, and after he had returned the bond had been firmly cemented. For that reason you send Dick on the wild goose chase.

It takes a bit of finagling. In the months since his return to society, Dick has become an integral part of the company. And by integral, you mean he’s the one who listens to your rants about leering businessmen, and helps you make the hard choices. It takes effort for him not to step in at times. You can see it in his eyes. Dick is a natural born leader, and he’s the oldest; those two things combined give him a chip on his shoulders. For that reason you send Calyce with him.

Calyce had always been the voice of reason in your group. The one who planned and strategized. She very rarely dove in without thinking. You could only hope that she’d help Dick keep a cool head about whatever he found.

You go several days without any word from your brother. You spend your days migrating a business world that wants to see you fall, and you spend your nights listening to Jason and Artemis bicker. Io and Euboea are less amused. You know they find it childish, but you think it’s funny. Artemis has never been one to back down from an argument, she was more stubborn than a mule, and Jason hid a world of hurt behind a wall of humor. They both get a kick out of it.

Which is why, when Jason suddenly goes missing you’re more than a little concerned. Tim quickly assures you that he and Artemis simply had a little disagreement. You curse that late business meeting for keeping you. You search all of his safe houses and don’t find on trace of him. Artemis stomps around the house like a lion with a thorn stuck in her paw. Everyone refuses to tell you what happened. After the third day, you snap. You go on a full out rant about things being kept from you. Being princess and a sister, you can hear how entitled you sound, but in that moment you don’t care.

Artemis refuses to meet your eyes, before muttering, “He said that women can be just as evil as men. I refuse to believe any of our sisters could be that way.”

Your mouth opens and closes several times, before you scrub at your eyes. You feel a headache coming on. “None of our sisters would be that way. You’re correct. But the women in man’s world are not automatically our sisters. I’ve met women that put men to shame. Damian’s mother is definitely up there, and in my eyes Jason’s mother is just …”

“What?” Artemis stares at you and you let out a sigh.

“Jason didn’t grow up with his biological mother. When he found her, she set him up. He ended up dying.”

    Io’s eyes widen, ‘But he’s still …”

“He was dead for a while. Talia, Damian’s mother, went grave robbing and dropped him in the Lazarus Pit. He came back more than a little different.”

Artemis’ voice is rough, “How did he die?”

You refuse to meet her eyes, “It wasn’t pretty. There was a crowbar involved. Broken bones. A collapsed lung, and then a bomb. My dad wasn’t in time to save him.”

Artemis nods once before she disappears. You stare at Euboea and Io, you give them a tight smile, “Unfortunately, evil is an equal opportunity business.”

Jason comes back the next day, with Artemis by his side. They’re both sporting a number of bruises, and cuts, but it seems as though everything is back to normal. You skip patrol that night in favor of letting Jason go out with Artemis, Io, and Euboea. You’re in need of more than a few hours sleep, and with the next day being Saturday, you don’t even bother setting your alarm.

You get maybe three hours when the bed sinks down. Your eyes flash open, and your fist flies. He catches it easily, and you sag and relief at the sight of him. You toss covers out of your way, and scramble to hug him. His arms wrap around you, and you cling to him.

He chuckles, “I missed you too.”

You pull back, “I was worried sick about you Damian Wayne. Where the hell have you been?”

He smirks at you, “Getting things done.”

Your hands go to your hips, “Sure, because I’ve just been sitting around painting my nails.”

His smirk widens, “Do you want to hear what I’ve been up to or not?”

Your eyes narrow, but you eventually nod. Making yourself comfy, you settle in to hear your brother’s story.

Prompt: Keith leaves Lance handcuffed to a thing on a planet again, as a practical joke. What he didn’t know is that it was nighttime on the surface of the planet, and the sun was rising, and it’s about to get HOT. While he only leaves Lance there for about half an hour, it’s enough for him to come back to a nearly passed out, super dehydrated, boiling hot blue paladin.

“What was it you wanted to show me?” Lance asked, following Keith onto a semi-deserted planet. It looked as though the surface had been hit by some kind of asteroid and left only remains of trees and a strange terrain behind. But that was decades ago, if the thin sheet of grass covering the ground was anything to go by. The trees had new life growing out from their destroyed stumps. But there were no animals to be seen.

Keith led the way toward what used to be some kind of lake. It was all dried out but there was still a little foliage at the bottom. Just at the edge of the has-been lake, Lance leaned against a tree to peer down into the ditch. “Wow, it’s kinda cool. But we travelled a whole galaxy away from the castle on our day off for some dried-out lake?” He turned an unamused expression to Keith.

Without saying anything, Keith whipped out a pair of handcuffs and slapped them to Lance’s wrists and snapped them to the tree he was holding onto. A glowing blue chain zipped around the tree and connected Lance’s two cuffs. He blinked and looked down, pulling experimentally. “Seriously? Again?” He asked in a whine. Keith chuckled.

“Don’t worry you whiner. I’ll be back in a little bit. Just uh, gonna get some food. Maybe go to the space mall again,” he turned away from Lance to hide his smirk. No, what they were really planning was a surprise party for Lance. They had found out that his birthday was coming up and needed to get him away from the castle so the others could decorate. Keith volunteered to distract Lance. But his idea of a ‘distraction’ was a bit restrictive. Keith didn’t see anything wrong with it though. The planet was more or less cool, there was enough light to be able to see easily, and there was a nice breeze. Lance’s oxygen wouldn’t run out and he could survive for less than an hour if Keith were to go back and help decorate for a little while, then come back to get him. Lance would complain about it the entire ride back to the castle, but when he sees what a great job they’ll do decorating, Keith knows he’ll forget all about his anger.

Lance tugged more desperately on the handcuffs. “Keith, come on buddy! Don’t leave me here! Who set you up to do this, huh? Was it Hunk? Did he dare you to do this and see how I’d react?” He started rambling, getting louder when he saw Keith start to walk back to his lion. They had carpooled in Red, so Keith didn’t have to worry about trying to transport Blue away from the planet. “Wait! Don’t leave me! Keith!” Lance pulled hard on his handcuffs, but Keith didn’t listen and the cuffs didn’t give way. Then Keith was getting into his lion and taking off.

Groaning, Lance slumped. So he was going to be there for a while, he figured. Whatever, it wasn’t the end of the world. He just wished there were some kind of nature to watch. A bird or squirrel. He wished the lake was full of water and he could watch some fish.

He readjusted his position and settled onto his knees, hands to his face like he was praying. But he turned his face to the sky. It was a nice day on this planet! Nice and warm. After basking in the heat of the sun, Lance turned his eyes to the grass. It swayed ever so gently in the cool breeze. It didn’t look exactly like normal grass, but it looked close enough to it. There was a white stripe down the center of the blades, and they were a lot softer than grass on earth. Almost mossy in texture. But they had the appearance of grass. It was green and everything, which was rare, Lance had learned from their expeditions.

Lance shifted again, unsticking the back of his knees from his uniform and rolling his shoulders to try to loosen the fabric around his neck. A trickle of sweat beaded on his temple and tickled his neck. “Eugh, I’m sweating a lot,” he realized. Turning his face upward again, he was surprised to see a very bright, very large sun much closer than it had been less than a minute ago. His eyes widened. “Oh quiznak…” he breathed. Shuffling, he tried to scoot to the other side of the tree he was tied to, but the cuffs wouldn’t budge, keeping him on one side of the tree. “No no, come on!” He begged to no one, trying to see if he could break the cuffs or hack them off. But he wasn’t a tech wizard like Pidge or Shiro, or strong like Hunk or Keith. No, he was stuck here until Keith came back to unlock him.

With every passing second, the sun grew hotter and hotter, brighter and whiter. Soon Lance was panting for breath, sweat making the inside of his suit damp and humid. It was getting hot, but heat wasn’t something Lance wasn’t used to. Back home, it would get up to the 100’s on a particularly bad day. It was uncomfortable but it wasn’t unbearable. He pulled on the memory of spending time with his younger siblings and cousins, playing in the sprinklers while his mom served them all ice-cold lemonade…

Just the thought of something cool on his throat made him feel better. But he was still sweating up a storm. He pressed his eyes closed, trying to ignore it. But it was getting very bright and he could see red behind his eyelids, like he was looking directly into the sun rather than down into the grass.

His skin started to burn and a part of him wondered if the paladin armor had SPF in it or if he’d be affected by the light. It definitely started to hurt, and Lance’s breaths came in ragged gasps. It didn’t help that the breeze had completely stopped.

“Hello?” He called into his comm, hoping Keith was still online. “Keith, do you come in? It’s getting really hot out here, please man. Enough, come get me.”

No answer.

“Keith, please! Come in, Mullet, get me out of this death trap!”

Still no answer.

Panic started to set in. Lance felt himself start to hyperventilate and he tried to scoot into his own shade. But the white stripe on the blades of grass reflected the sun right back up at him and made it nearly impossible to hide in shade. He whimpered, feeling his hands and feet getting clammy and wet. Sweat was dripping off his nose every few seconds, and his hair was soaked at this point.

Vaguely, Lance wondered how long the days on this planet were. He suddenly realized why there was no life other than the nature. They had been killed by the immense heat from the sun. The plants developed their white stripe to reflect the sun that way they wouldn’t burn from the power. The planet hadn’t created its protective ozone layer yet, but the plants were working on it. But Lance had the unlucky chance to be stuck there before it had its protective atmosphere.

His legs felt like jello and he felt so uncomfortable and wet just sitting there in full blast of the sun’s dangerous rays.

Suddenly, he felt the wetness start to evaporate. The inside of his suit was still slightly damp, but his skin wasn’t making any more sweat. While he was relieved for a moment, a fresh wave of panic seized him. It wasn’t getting any cooler, but he wasn’t sweating? That’s gotta be bad. Heat exhaustion? Something like that. His mind was too muddled and unfocused, he couldn’t really assess his symptoms. But he knew that it was bad.

“Keith,” he rasped through a dry mouth, feeling the world spinning around him. He pressed his eyes shut tight and felt himself gag as the dizziness only increased. When nothing came up, he continued in a strained voice, “Come on man, it’s not funny anymore…”

Lance’s mind fuzzed out completely and the overly bright light dimmed to a pinprick.

Then it went out.

Smiling to himself, Keith hurried back to the castle. When he walked in, Shiro gave him a strange look. “Where’s Lance?” He asked. “I thought you were distracting him for us?”

Keith smirked. “Yeah, I’d say he’s pretty distracted,” he folded his arms. “I just chained him to a tree like Nyma did. I’ll go get him after we’re done. The more hands we have helping, the better, right?” Shiro seemed reluctant, but eventually nodded. Keith hopped up onto a chair next to Allura’s and started hanging up the streamers. Or…the Altean equivalent of streamers, with a bit of a human twist. Coran and Pidge had gone to the mall to get some balloons. Hunk was busy in the kitchen trying to bake a cake. Shiro was using his cybernetic hand to slice up a large colored piece of tissue paper into small strips for Keith and Allura to hang up.

They continued working for a while. Hunk finished baking the cake and was starting to ice it when Coran and Pidge returned with levitating colored orbs that could pass as balloons if you didn’t look too closely at them. Pidge started stationing them over everyone’s seats at the table with Shiro’s help, and Coran started making more Altean streamers for Keith and Allura.

Finally, it was more or less done. Just a few final touches. But the whole dining room looked like it was ready for a major party; balloons floated around the room, streamers hung cheerfully from the ceiling, there was a ‘Happy Birthday’ banner hanging on the wall, the smell of cake filled the room and Hunk’s masterpiece sat as the table centerpiece. Overall, it looked pretty decent for the strange resources they had.

“I think we’re ready for him!” Hunk announced, a proud look in his eyes. “Where was he again?”

Keith had already started to suit up once more, having taken off his armor while he was decorating. “Just a planet not too far from here. I pulled a Nyma on him and left. Thought he’d enjoy the reference.” Everyone rolled their eyes at the mention of Nyma. Lance had a habit of getting himself into compromising positions fairly often, didn’t he? Keith shrugged on the last of his armor and fastened his helmet to his head. “I’ll go get him. We’ll be back in less than ten minutes.”

As he started flying back to the planet, he opened his communication link with Lance. “Hey Lance, miss me?” He asked snarkily. But there was no reply. Keith rolled his eyes, thinking Lance was just too angry to answer him. “Come on, don’t be this way. Trust me, you’ll like what we have planned for you.” But there was still no answer. Keith frowned. “Lance?”

An alert startled him. Flashing on Red’s screen were the words, 'WARNING: SYSTEM OVERHEATING’ and he had to reread it a few times before it really clicked. System overheating? Sure, the sun was really bright, but— Oh god.

“Oh no, no no…” Keith swore darkly under his breath and pushed his lion toward the planet he had left Lance on. He thought it was far enough away from the sun that it wouldn’t affect him. But apparently the orbit was more elliptical than he had thought, and now the sun was nearly right on top of it. And Lance didn’t have a lion, just his jumpsuit and armor.

Keith landed the lion and tried to use his bio scanner to search for life. It was too bright to see clearly, with everything reflecting back up at him. But the scanner wasn’t working. He tried to reload it a few times, but it never finished scanning. The sun must have been overloading the scanner. Looks like he’d have to do this the long way. So he urged Red into a run, and together they searched for the blue paladin.

The search was in vain for a little bit, but then Red sent a warning through Keith, and when he looked where she was focusing on, he saw that there was a small splash of blue against the blinding white background. Without thinking twice, Keith unbuckled himself and leaped out of the cockpit and rushed to Lance, who was slumped to the side, hands still tied to the tree.

Keith released the handcuffs instantly and Lance fell into Keith’s waiting arms. “Lance! Oh my god, Lance come on, wake up!” But Lance laid motionless and limp. Keith was about to rip off his helmet to see if he was breathing, but thought better of it when Red sent a rumble through his mind. Right, do this in the lion. He hooked his arms under Lance’s knees and behind his back, hoisting him up bridal-style and rushing back to Red, who had her mouth open and ready for the two paladins.

She made a worried whine when she sensed that only one of her two passengers was awake, and immediately took off and started to fly back to the castle while Keith tended to Lance. He pulled off their helmets and put his ear down to Lance’s mouth. A wave of relief washed over him when he felt a tiny, ragged puff of breath on his cheek. But his hand hovered over Lance’s forehead. Heat radiated up through his glove and Keith’s mouth pressed into a line.

Ripping off his gloves, Keith pressed his hand to Lance’s forehead and recoiled like he’d been burned. Which he honestly thought had happened. He looked at his hand and saw no visible burns. But Lance’s body was definitely overheating. Keith carded his fingers through Lance’s hair to get it off his face, and was surprised to feel that his hair was stiff from moisture, but it felt completely dry to the touch. He had even stopped sweating. Keith was no stranger to heat. Living in the desert, he had had his full share of heat exhaustion and bouts of hyperthermia. He knew all about it. But he had never reached heat stroke status. But it seemed Lance had.

Quickly, Keith pulled Lance from his suit, laying him out on the cool metal of the floor of the lion. His mind was short-circuiting. What did he have that he could give Lance to help him feel better? Water? No, he only planned on being in the lion for a little bit. He didn’t bring anything other than his armor. He had literally nothing to help Lance with.

Keith chewed on his lip and crawled up to Lance’s head, supporting his upper body on his lap. He looked up to Red’s view screen and squinted at it. “How much longer?” He growled in agitation. Red growled back and sent him a calming vibe shortly after. “We don’t have a few more minutes, Red! Hurry! Full thrusters, Lance isn—!”

A sudden intense pressure on his lap made Keith look down. Lance’s eyes were screwed shut and his back was arching, head trying to throw itself back but being blocked by Keith’s support. Then his arms and shoulders tensed up and Lance began to convulse. Keith cried out, trying to keep Lance from bashing his head into the metal floor but not knowing what to do. Lance’s jaw worked and then a bit of blood trickled down his cheek. Keith felt useless, supporting Lance’s head on either side as the seizure continued. His hands ached from where they were touching Lance, his skin felt like it was on fire. But Keith held on until Lance was done, the jerking motions slowing down to nothing. Then he was limp again in Keith’s lap, breaths labored and shallow and fast.

Keith just continued to hold onto Lance’s head, heart racing as he tried to figure out what to do. There was still a bit of blood coming out of Lance’s mouth, and his breathing sounded painful. Keith gently pushed Lance to his side and stood up on his knees to see how much longer. Thankfully, the hangar door was open and Red was flying in. Thank god, Keith would be getting help soon.

He looked down to Lance and saw a small puddle of blood and foamy spit pooling at his mouth. Keith  was about to lay him on his side again, but heard Lance breathing just the tiniest bit easier. He also felt like it was good that whatever was in his mouth was coming out, so he kept him on his side and just rubbed circles on his back to soothe him, trying to ignore the heat radiating off him. “Hang in there Lance, help is on the way.”

On cue, the door to Red opened and the others rushed in with Shiro in the lead. “Keith, what’s going on? You didn’t answer us when we tried asking where you were, and— Good god, what happened?”

Keith gathered Lance in his arms again and stood, looking remorsefully at his team. “I-I didn’t realize the planet got so hot during the day. He’s got heat stroke, we have to get him in a healing pod NOW!” Hunk ran forward without asking any questions and took Lance from Keith, rushing him to the infirmary.

Shiro watched as Pidge ran with Hunk, then placed a reassuring hand on Keith’s shoulder. “It’s alright, don’t worry. He’s going to be fine. He’s been through worse.”

“But it’s my fault… This was supposed to be a fun day for him. Not for him to get heat stroke, of all things…”

“Maybe, but I know he won’t blame you. He’ll understand that it came from a good place. And when he sees what an awesome job we did decorating, he’ll forget all about it. You’ll see.”

Keith sighed, slumping to the ground and gripping his head in his hands. “I really hope so…”

Shiro squeezed Keith’s shoulder, but then frowned, raising his human hand up to Keith’s forehead. “I think you’ve got a bit of heat exhaustion yourself, Keith.” He said worriedly. Keith was about to argue, but felt a wave of nausea rise up and send a full headache bursting through his head. He winced.

“Maybe you’re right.” Keith leaned on Shiro, who helped him to the pods. While he just had one arm around Shiro at first, with every step he grew more and more exhausted and his brain became slower and slower.

But eventually they made it to the infirmary. Just before he climbed into his own pod, Keith caught eye of Lance’s pod. His temperature was 105.7 and he looked very flushed and tired. But at least he was in a pod and he was healing. Keith slumped into his pod and started to relax.

They’d both get better.

And then they’d have Lance’s party.

Dominic West reads
The Second Coming
by William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

“We obviously knew that Kyle was going to be our guy pretty early on and we knew that character in and out. Sheriff Truman was more of an unknown; we had written him a little more loosely because he was so laconic he didn’t have as many words. Then the moment we saw the two of them together, we knew the chemistry was fantastic because you had these two great archetypes: a fast-talking urban Sherlock and this slower small-town guy whose fundamental decency made up for whatever he lacked in mental acuity. They were a classic duo and they really enjoyed each other’s company which helped a lot.” - Mark Frost

“Those two characters were pretty much established from the get-go. I met Michael and he’s a very sort of gentle and soft-spoken guy who moves at his own pace and his own rhythm. I think we both (being good actors) intuitively knew who these people were and what that relationship should be.

I think there was kind of (on Michael’s side) an appreciation for Cooper’s eccentricities. He had tremendous patience with Cooper, because sometimes Cooper’s ideas were moving pretty quick and were certainly unusual compared to what he was used to. I think Cooper also appreciated Sheriff Truman’s sort of dry manner and matter-of-fact approach to the world and for some reason the dynamic seemed to work really well and that was pretty much what we established right on day one.” - Kyle MacLachlan

“…The first day of rehearsals for the pilot take place east of Seattle at the Red Lion Inn. Just the three of us in a room, David-Kyle-Michael. The Lynch sorcery is subtle, easy, refined, and full of fun. David and Kyle have done two movies together and are already half way home. I mention the sheriff’s cadences (as written by Mark and David) remind me of this friend of mine from Missouri who’s a fisherman and a lumberjack. I ask Kyle the name of his favorite band. Instantly he says Led Zeppelin. David says this is the happiest day of Agent Cooper’s life. David doesn’t direct. He plays drums and bass guitar and a dozen keyboards. We’re immediately launched into a kind of magic mushroom melodic lark that feels like a Thelonious Monk jazz riff. This culminates in David bringing us to his rental car and playing that forever haunting Peaks theme written by Angelo Badalamenti. Pure pleasure. This cements for Kyle and Michael, in a completely visceral way, the essence of David’s vision for the movie. A home-made circus in an offbeat church.” Michael Ontkean

Quick Cryptid Snippet: The Marsupial Lion

Thylacoleo carnifex, more commonly known as the Marsupial Lion, is an extinct carnivorous tree dwelling marsupial that called the Australian outback home during the late Pleistocene era. The giant mammal was the largest carnivore to ever exist in Australia and is thought to be one of the largest marsupials to exist anywhere in the world. Scientists believe the creature went extinct along with the other Megafauna of the continent as little as 46,000 years ago. But if this is true, why do some people still claim to have seen them in the vast openness of Australia?

In the mid-2000’s, multiple residents in the town of Tumbulgum (located in New South Wales) claimed that they had not only seen the Marsupial Lion, but that it was actually “stalking” the surrounding area and feeding on the unfortunate wildlife. Witnesses describe seeing a large creature the size of a lion but with “cramped” legs like that of a marsupial which would lead to a slight waddle while walking. The fur was often seen to be brindled (subtle stripes of irregular dark color) with tannish-yellow spotting and it had a long thick tail. The creatures face had a wide, thick nose like that of a wombat and large incisors (both upper and lower) protruding from the mouth.

According to scientists who have studied the skeletons of long dead Marsupial Lions, a full grown specimen would stand nearly 3ft at the shoulder and measured nearly 5ft long from head to tail. It is believed that these large carnivores could weigh anywhere between 250-360lbs. The Lion also possessed a large tail like that of a kangaroo which many scientists believe would have allowed it to support its full body weight thus allowing it the ability to slash and grab at prey with its long retractable claws. Once in hand, the creature would pull its victim toward its blade like molars which easily allowed it to tear flesh and break bone. Testing the bite force on the collected jaws of these creatures showed that the Marsupial Lion had the strongest bite of any animal in the world either living or dead.

So could this creature that many claim died out thousands of years ago still be around? While one may be quick to say no, it should be noted that there have been countless reported sightings of many different types of extinct Australian Megafauna for hundreds of years. People to this day claim to see supposedly long dead giant birds, reptiles, and mammals while out in the bush miles away from any other living soul. This could truly mean that there are a few species thought to be extinct thriving away in the uninhabited parts of the country.

Still not into this theory and need a little more convincing? Take into consideration that Australia only has a population of 24+ million people and over 85% of that total population lives along the coast as 40% of the country is listed as uninhabitable for human living due to high temperatures, barren landscapes, and lack of water or shelter. That’s 40% of an entire continent void of humans and free to whatever long extinct animal wants to claim it and remain undetected while doing so.

Veteran big game hunter dies after elephant, felled by gunfire, collapses on him
Theunis Botha had been leading safaris in Africa for nearly 30 years.

not just a hunter but a safari man, a good death. the elephant had its perfect revenge

Theunis Botha led his first guided hunting safari through South Africa’s grasslands in 1989. A college student at the time, he used the money he received to help put himself through school.

Over the following 28 years, Botha expanded his college side-gig into a full-fledged business, setting up private hunting ranches in Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and elsewhere, and drawing clients from around the world. He won a reputation as a sought-after specialist in leopard and lion hunting, and pioneered a new method of using hounds to track big game, according to his hunting company’s website.
