in a good way always a good way

anonymous asked:

if bakugou and kirishima grew up together, can we really assume it would go well? i mean, kiri was a bit like deku in some ways, and if bakugou's childhood relationship with /him/ is anything to go by....

I’ve actually thought about this a whole damn lot - in the sense that this is an AU I’ve been thinking about for months and for a real long time I was super ambivalent about it because it could have actually gone both ways? It’s honestly one of the reasons why I found the idea so entertaining, since Bakugou is a complete asshat this might as well have been the only childhood-friends AU that could have ended my ship altogether hahaha incredible, usually that sort of AUs are all about the fluff lmao

Anyway now that I have Kirishima’s backstory I feel a bit more confident about the possibility of it ending well! Ah, this is assuming they’d always known each other like Deku and Bakugou have, but to be honest I think it could go fairly well whatever period of their lives they’d have met? The thing about Bakugou and Kirishima is that they like each other independently from their quirks, and that’s all the difference you need between their relationship and the one Bakugou and Deku have.

Bakugou likes in Kirishima the strength to stand up for himself and speak out and not let others walk over him while still never putting himself above others, his confidence and his trust in others and himself; Kirishima likes in Bakugou his one track mind towards his objectives, his strength both physical and psychological, his “live without regrets” way of going about life - these are things both of them have always had, quirks or not, UA or not. They’re also things that with time you realize aren’t actually true about them, but the first time they met, when they decided that they wanted to be friends, that was what they saw - and I think whatever age they met, that’d be what they’d see in each other anyway, so I think they’d still get along. Kirishima even said that he doesn’t mind Bakugou’s habit of picking fights left and right!

There’s also how Bakugou isn’t the type to judge a person based on how far they can push their quirks at the moment/how well they know how to use it - even a seemingly silly quirk can be a great one when properly trained, he isn’t stupid enough to look at Kirishima’s hardening and scoff at it. And be it Kirishima’s insecurities or Bakugou’s bullying, I think growing up together and finding their quirks together (even training together) might have actually made both of them better, in the end.

A Bakugou that’s just found his quirk would look at hardening, the one thing that can oppose him, and think “this is a strong quirk”. And when you remember that it’s not their quirks that got them to be friends in canon, in this scenario too Bakugou would already consider Kirishima worth it for other reasons, and that would mean he’d have no problems with telling him that he can do better, he can be better - and the younger you make them the more this is bound to end up well, imho. Same goes for Kirishima seeing Bakugou start acting like a bully, I think. He wouldn’t keep quiet about it, Kirishima, and even in canon Bakugou does stop being an ass when Kirishima tells him to quit it so, again, the younger you make them the more this should work, for me. Kirishima would be inspired by Bakugou, Bakugou calmed down by Kirishima, they would have probably just started their growth way earlier if they’d known each other as kids

Then again, it’s not like we know for sure. All I know is that Kirishima has liked Bakugou since the start, even though he had straight out told All Might that he thought Bakugou was crazy, and that Bakugou has only ever bullied Deku just because he couldn’t read him at all and that made him convinced Deku was making fun of him, which is a problem he would never have with baby Kirishima

It’s just optimistic suppositions tho haha

Boi, can you believe it’s already been a whole year since Horikoshi saved my life

Oh my god, in last night’s Bob’s Burgers, Bob takes Gene to a laser light rock show at the planetarium (super important to Bob, because it was his favorite when he was a teenager, and this is the last night before they’re closing the exhibit because it’s old and no one goes anymore, also it’s Bob’s birthday), and Gene has no idea what he’s in for, but he gets pumped for it anyway ‘cause Bob’s so excited about it, and finally they get in there and they’re watching it, and Gene has a sensory overload and kinda starts freaking out ‘cause he can’t handle it, so Bob takes him out and they sit in the car for a bit.  Gene’s angry because Bob didn’t tell him it would be so loud and scary, so Bob offers to play the album for Gene at a normal volume, and Gene starts to enjoy it, so he reclines the seats, takes out the cigarette lighter, tells Gene to pretend it’s a laser, and starts drawing in the air, explaining the plot to him (it’s like a full on Pink Floyd or Rush-esque rock opera about a bunch of robot overlords telling rockers that they can’t play music anymore, and one Rebel rising against them).  Gene gets really into it and decides he wants to see the finale of the laser show (which Bob regards as a life-changing experience), so they sneak back into the planetarium (there’s no re-entry allowed) with a few tricks that parallel the story from the album, and watch the climax of the show together (Bob fashions some earplugs for Gene out of a napkin).  On the way home, Bob’s asking Gene how he liked it, and Gene says “I loved it!”, Bob asks him to speak louder ‘cause his ear’s are shot, and Gene yells, “I LOVED IT, DAD”.  Bob yells back “I love you too, Gene”.

I FUCKING!!! CAN’T!!! DEAL!!!! WITH HOW GOOD THIS SHOW IS!!! I know i don’t talk about Bob’s Burgers a lot but this show is flawless and charming and gross and funny all at the same time, the characters are written like people with actual fears and anxieties, and unlike a lot of comparable shows, the comedy doesn’t come from the family being pitted against each other, it’s always the family against the world… I love it, I love it, it’s so pure and refreshing and still somehow manages to be funny without sacrificing it’s heart, and I fuckin’ love it, please watch Bob’s Burgers holy CRAP okay I’m done.

The great tragedy of Anakin Skywalker is he never got a chance to be free.

Think about it. He’s born into slavery. He lives 9 years as a true slave. Even if Watto was the “best” owner ever that is still a horrific circumstance to spend your FORMATIVE YEARS. Even if Watto was a saint, there is so much trauma in having no freedom or control over your own body, in knowing the PRICE of your life. Not to mention secondary trauma, which is NO LESS TRAUMATIC, btw.

Then, he’s “freed” by a Jedi. But the Jedi frees him with the implied condition that Anakin be taken in and trained by the Jedi order. As soon as he leaves Tattooine, all choice is stripped from him. The counsel evaluates him and finds him wanting. His entire future is thrown into jeopardy because the man who bought him is dead and the new owners may want to return him. When they finally do induct him into the Jedi Order, it is with suspicion and a lot of conditions (cough, being the Chosen One, cough)

Once again he’s in a situation where he must call the people in charge MASTER.

(But it’s Different, someone might say. Yeah, well, when you’re 9 a cucumber looks like a zucchini, and patterns of thoughts, how the world works, worldview, that doesn’t change just because someone tells you some pretty words)

In the Jedi Order, Anakin loses the autonomy of his choices. He loses the option of getting married and having children (which, btw, is one of the rights traditionally stolen in slave cultures). He loses the right to chose where he goes and what he does EVEN AFTER HE REACHES ADULTHOOD. And, he loses the right to his own emotions.

Even as a slave, emotions are the one thing they can’t truly take from you. They can try to break you, they can punish you, but as long as you can think you can feel, you can hide what you’re feeling. You can be angry, sad, happy, in love even if they don’t want you to. But in the Jedi order, not only are these emotions bad, but it is an entire organization of psychics who vocally criticize and police you out when you’re struggling to “let go” of anger and hate, even or especially hate that is justified!

Then, this Order begins using SENTIENT HUMAN SOLDIERS who have been BRED AND RAISED AND SOLD TO BE AN ARMY. Soldiers who’se MINDS have been stripped to make them more obedient. And the Jedi don’t even hesitate to put them to use. The Jedi Order legitimized slavery. How do you suppose THAT felt for the former slave boy?

So, in the movie, you see a progression as Anakin struggles for power. Because, if he’s the master then HE WON’T BE THE SLAVE.

Lastly, after THREE YEARS OF TRAUMA AND WAR AND SLOWLY SLIPPING TO THE DARK SIDE (don’t tell me it was just Padme’s death that caused him to fall), Anakin fall’s and turns to the only Authority Figure who has treated him with full respect and told him that he is powerful, he is in control – Darth Sidious. Who then ENSLAVES HIM UNTIL THE DAY HE DIES.

Anakin only got 30 minutes of true freedom and he was dying.

And that just kind of kills me.
