i do not look at you and see perfection your soul is not the purity to my lack i do not hold your hand because it is clean no darling, i love you because you are as broken as i i kiss your lips because they have tasted blood i caress your scars because they mirror mine my soul touches yours and the fractured fragments create an imperfect symmetry we are two tragedies stories that are destined to end apart
Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post every week announcing the latest project.
The goal this weekend is to make symmetrical photos and videos, taking inspiration from London-based Michael Zee (@symmetrybreakfast), who creates mirrored meals every morning for himself and his partner, Mark. Tap our profile pic to see today’s Instagram story and learn what goes into creating one of Michael’s balanced breakfast spreads, then check out his tips for #WHPsymmetry below:
Compose your frame so that each side of your picture is equal. “You’ve simply got to visualize a mirror in the middle.”
Look for examples in both tiny details and larger landscapes. “Once you start looking for symmetry — in nature, architecture, art and so on — you’ll find it almost impossible to stop.”
Don’t be afraid of imperfect symmetry. “I find it most beautiful when you can see the absolute tiniest of differences. I love wabi-sabi, the Japanese concept of beauty in the imperfect.”
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPsymmetry hashtag only to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.
I wish I could, but sadly I don’t read a lot of fic. Too busy writing!
“Imperfect Symmetry” is the only fanfic featuring a trans woman that I’ve written (though that should change; I have plans for another but it will have to wait until some other fics are done). I am working on an original fiction project with a prominent trans woman in a lesbian relationship, as well.
As for work outside my profile, there’s BodyshocK I cowrote with @corgi-kid (and the sequel written by a fan); the main character is bigender but there’s a transwoman OC in the end, and she’s one of the main characters of the fan-sequel. Most of the other fics I’ve read that contained penis-owning women have been purely smutty (like Sawachika-chan’s works) so I won’t go into a lot of depth there since they aren’t representative of an actual trans experience, but then again, as I said, I haven’t read a lot of fic. I’m really sorry.
But you might ask @glittering-snowfall; she’s trans and has probably read most of the Elsanna fic that exists. If anybody would know which Elsanna fics have a trans woman in them, I’d expect it to be her. (if not, @canitellusmthin would know just because she’s such a voracious reader haha)
I really adore how imperfect Smokey Quartz is. I love how they’re playful and fun (traits I think really embody Steven and Amethyst) but also their design is really imperfect. No symmetry, uncommon color pallet, a yoyo as a weapon. Their fusion feels like the most unexpected combination of Steven and Amethyst and it makes me very happy.
