immortal-medusa

One of my recent projects involved illustrating the Lifecycle of Turritopsis dohrnii, commonly known as The Immortal Jellyfish It is the only known species of an animal capable of reverting completely back to polyp stage making it seem biologically immortal. Is it really though?

Gorgon (/ˈΓοργών/Γοργώ )

The name derives from the ancient Greek word gorgós, meaning “dreadful”. Descriptions of Gorgons vary across Greek literature, but the term commonly refers to any of three sisters Medusa, Stheno, and Euryale. Born of the sea deities Phorcys and Ceto, the gorgons are often shown with wings, brass claws, fangs, and hair made of living, venomous snakes. Laying eyes upon their frightening visage would immediately turn the looker into stone. Of the three sisters, Stheno and Euryale were immortal. Their sister Medusa was not, and she was slain by the demigod Perseus.
