imam al baqir

Imam Mahdi (atjf)

‘On the authority of al-Thumāli: I asked Imam al-Baqir (as)

“O” son of the Messenger of Allah, aren’t all of you Establishers (Qa'im) of the Truth?”
He said, “Indeed so.”
I asked him then, “Why has al-Qā‘im has been named ‘the Establisher’ (al-Qā’im)?”
He said, “When my forefather Imam Hussain (as), was killed, angels wailed to Allah, the Exalted, and cried and whimpered.
They said, “Our Lord, our Master, are You going to ignore people who killed Your chosen friend and the progeny of Your chosen and selected friend from Your creation?”
Allah, the Exalted, revealed to them, “Relax my angels. By My Honor and My Majesty, I will take revenge from them, even if it be after a while.”
Then Allah, the Exalted, manifested the Imams from the progeny of Imam Hussain (a.s) which made the angels happy. They saw one of them standing (qā’im), offering salāth.
Allah, the Exalted, said, ‘Through that Standing one (al-Qā’im). I shall avenge from them.’”

Quoted in Ilal al Sharae
Book (Bihar Al Anwar, volume 51)

“No man extends his hand towards God unless God is ashamed of returning it empty and puts some of His bounty and mercy in it. Therefore, when one of you recite dua do not pull back your hand without having drawn it on your face.”

— Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (ع) Odattol Daee p. 289

anonymous asked:

The Umayyads did not fabricate the tradition of fasting on Ashura, you're just reaching at this point. One can argue that some Shia traditions can be fabricated, but me not being a bigot, I won't make that argument. Watch your tone.

The problem here is that there is a history of politics behind the fast of Ashura. Killing the Grandson of the Prophet (saw) was a major crime, so the Bani Umayyah (Curse of Allah be upon them) attempted to shift the focus of the people for the day of Ashura. Possessing power and money, they spread to the Muslims that Ashura is a blessed day. They did so by indoctrinating their people that on Ashura God saved Prophet Musa (as) and his people from the Pharaoh. He saved Prophet Ibrahim (as) from the fire of Nimrud. He cured Prophet Ayub’s (as) illness. He returned Prophet Yaqub’s (as) eyesight to him, and so on. To thank God for that blessed day, they encouraged the people to fast on Ashura.

On his own chain of transmission Shaykh Saduq narrates that Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as) said:

کان صومه قبل شهر رمضان، فلمّا نزل شهر رمضان ترك
‘’The fast of the day of Ashura used to be observed before the Quranic verse about the fast of the Holy month of Ramadan, but after that it was discontinued.” [Reference: Man la Yahduruhu al-Faqih, vol. 2, p. 51, hadith 224; Wasa’il al-Shi‘ah, vol. 10, p. 452, hadith 1].

On a side note: Sayed Ammar Nakshawani explained this perfectly in one of his lecture about the origin of fasting on Ashura. In the words of Sayed Ammar Nakshawani:

‘’We find in Islam that sometimes there is an event which may be changed depending on the circumstances. For example: The fasting of Ashura. It may have been orginally a fast about fasting on the tenth of any month but Imam al-Baqir (as) says: کان صومه قبل شهر رمضان، فلمّا نزل شهر رمضان ترك  ‘When the fast came of the month of Ramadan, the fast of Ashura was made void’, meaning ترك which means it was completly stopped. There was no more fasting on Ashura. If we say Rasulullah (saw) did fast on Ashura, in the first year of Hijra, Imam al-Baqir (as) says: کان صومه قبل شهر رمضان، فلمّا نزل شهر رمضان ترك ‘As soon as the fast of Ramadan became wajib (the fasting became wajib in the second year of Hijra), then the fast of Ashura was stopped.’’

Kulayni has narrated that he asked Imam Muhamamd al-Baqir (as) about fasting on the day of Ashura. Answering his question, the Imam (as) said:

صوم متروك بنزول شهر رمضان، والمتروك بدعة
‘’This is a fast which was discontinued after the Quranic verse enacting the fast of the Holy month of Ramadan was revealed. Doing that which is abandoned is an act of innovation.’’ [Reference: Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 146, hadith 4; Wasa’il al-Shi‘ah, vol. 10, p. 461, section 21, hadith 5].

The narrator (Kulayni) says: I asked this same question from Imam Jafar al-Sadiq’s (as) father, too. He gave the same answer as Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) and added:

أما انّه صوم يوم ما نزل به کتاب، ولا جرت به سنّة، الاّ سنّة آل زياد بقتل الحسين بن علي
‘’Beware! This is a fast about which no Quranic verse has been revealed and is not an observed way of conduct. It was only the way of conduct for the partisans of Ziyad when they killed al-Husayn Ibn Ali (as).’’

Kulayni again on his own chain of transmission narrates that Abd al-Malik said: “I asked Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) about fasting on the ninth day of Muharram and the day of Ashura.’’ Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) said: ‘’The ninth day is the day when al-Husayn Ibn Ali (as) and his companions got besieged and surrounded by the enemy.

It was the day that the mounted soldiers of Sham were enlisted and brought to Karbala where they camped. Ibn Marjanah and Umar Ibn Sa’d (Curse of Allah be upon them) were very pleased because of the great numbers of mounted soldiers and considered al-Husayn (as) and his companions as weak. They believed that no help would come for al-Husayn (as) because the people of Iraq would not help him.

O my Father! May I be sacrificed for you, O you who were oppressed in a foreign land! Then, Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) continued: ‘’However, the day of Ashura is the day when al-Husayn Ibn Ali (as) fell to the ground (was Martyred) along with all his companions. Should fasting be observed on such a day? Never at all!’’

I swear upon the Lord of the Sacred House (the Kabah)! Such a day is not a day for fasting. That day is only reserved for sorrow and mourning that has been inflicted on the inhabitants of the skies and the earth altogether. It is a day of happiness and pleasure for the son of Marjanah and Ibn Ziyad’s partisans and the people of Sham.

Allah’s curse be on them and their offspring. The day of Ashura is a day when all the tombs and mausoleums of the earth except the tombs of Sham cry for al-Husayn (as). Therefore, Allah (swt) will unite on the Day of Resurrection anyone who fasts on that day or looks upon that day as a day of celebration with Ibn Ziyad and his partisans, discontent with a transformed heart.’’ [Reference: Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 147, hadith 7; Wasa’il al-Shi‘ah, vol. 10, p. 459, section 21, hadith 2].

Kulayni also quotes from Jafar Ibn Isa that he said: “I asked Imam Ali al-Ridha (as) about fasting on the day of Ashura. I also asked his opinion about what people say about this fast.’’ The Imam (as) said:

 عن صوم ابن مرجانة تسألني
‘’You are asking me about the fast of the son of Marjanah?’’ [Reference: Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 146, hadith 5; Wasa’il al-Shi‘ah, vol. 10, p. 460, section [bab] 21, hadith 3].

On his own chain of transmission, Kulayni quotes from Zayd Narsi that he said: “I heard Ubayd Allah Ibn Zurarah asking Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) about fasting on the day of Ashura.’’ Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) replied saying:

من صامه کان حظّه من صيام ذلك اليوم حظّ ابن مرجانة وآل زياد
‘’The reward for anyone fasting on that day will be given to the son of Marjanah and Ibn Ziyad’s partisans.’’

Zayd Narsi said: “I asked what the reward of fasting on that day is.’’ The Imam (as) replied:

النار، اعاذنا الله من النار، ومن عمل يقرب من النار
‘’The Fire, may Allah save us from the Fire. Anyone who fasts on the day of Ashura has made himself nearer to the Fire.’’ [Reference: Ibid, (meaning “same source as last time” or ‘’previous note’’) in Latin].

Abu Rayhan Biruni wrote in his book Al-Athar al-Baqiyah: ‘’..The Bani Umayyah (Curse of Allah be upon them)  used to decorate and adorn themselves and hold festivities on the day of Ashura. They used to invite guests to participate in their happy celebrations. This custom was prevalent during their reign, and continued to exist even after their decline. On the other hand, the Shia’s used to mourn and weep and visit the Holy land, Karbala, where Imam al-Husayn (as) was killed.’’ [Reference: Al-Athar al-Baqiyah, p. 524].

So based on the above narrations we can say that there is no doubt that the Bani Umayyah (Curse of Allah be upon them) were behind all of this, and considering it as a blessed day is not an offence to us, the Shia’s, but an offence to Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his Holy Household (as).

I pray to Allah (swt) that He continues to allow us to spread the word of Imam Hussain (as) and that He continues to allow us to debate all these issues of controversy which seek to block the message of Imam Hussain (as).

Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil ✊💓

Allah (ﷻ) says ‘And from among you there should be a party who invite to good and enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong, and these it is that shall be successful.’

📗 Al-Qur’an 3:104

. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said ❝The time when my Ummah merely count on others to enjoin right and forbid wrong, in fact, they have declared a fight against Allah (ﷻ), the Exalted.❞

📗 Bihar al-Anwar

. Imam Ameerulmumineen (عليه السلام) said ❝He who abandons forbidding what is wrong theroretically and practically (and is indifferent while seeing vices committed) is a moving corpse amongst the living.❞

📗 Bihar al-Anwar

. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said ❝To prevent a Muslim from doing an unlawful action is equivalent with Allah (ﷻ) to the performance of seventy accepted Hajj.❞

📗 Mustadrak al-Wasa’il al-Shi’a

. Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) said ❝Verily enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong is the way of the prophets (عليهم السلام) and the method of good doers. It is such a great obligatory deed by which other obligatory deeds can survive, other creeds can be saved, bargains are lawful, injustices are warded off and prosperity can fill the earth.❞

📗 Al-Kafi

. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said ❝The one who sees a wrong action done should prohibit it by his deed, if he is capable of course; if he cannot do so he should prohibit it by his tongue, but if he is not even able to do that, he may forbid it by his heart.❞

📗 Wasa’il al-Shi’a

👑 One of the greatest examples of enjoining good and forbidding evil in the history of Islam is when Sayed al-Shuhada Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) rose up on the plains of Karbala. He famously said:

❝I did not rise up in vain, as a rebel or tyrant but I rose seeking reformation for the nation of my grandfather Muhammad (ﷺ). I intend to enjoin good and forbid evil, to act according to the traditions of my grandfather and my father Ali ibn Abu Talib (عليه السلام). ❞

Treatment Of Self-Admiration

مُعالَجَةُ العُجبِ

Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Block the path of self-admiration through self-knowledge.’

الإمامُ الباقرُ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ): سُدَّ سَبيلَ العُجبِ بِمَعرِفةِ النَّفسِ .

Tuhaf Al-`Uqoul, No. 285

Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘Verily any believer who is mindful of the obligatory prayers and prays them on time is not of the negligent ones.’

The virtues of the Shi’a (the followers of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and his Ahlulbayt عليهم السلام) 💜💛

❣ The Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said ❝Beware! Whoever dies because of his love for the Ahlulbayt (عليهم السلام) dies a martyr. Whoever dies with love of the Ahlulbayt will be forgiven. Whoever dies with the love of Ahlulbayt dies as a repentant. Whoever dies with the love of Ahlulbayt dies as a believer of a perfect faith. Whoever dies with love of the Ahlulbayt will be given the glad tiding of entering Paradise by the Angel of Death, and then by Munkar and Nakeer. Whoever dies with the love of Ahlulbayt will be taken to Paradise like a bride taken to her groom’s house. Whoever dies with love of the Ahlulbayt will have two doors in his grave overlooking Paradise. Whoever dies with the love of Ahlulbayt, Almighty Allah (ﷻ) will make his grave a visiting place for the angels. Whoever dies with the love of Ahlulbayt will die adhering to the Sunnah. Whoever dies hating the Ahlulbayt will come on the Day of Resurrection written between his eyes ‘He should despair of Allah’s mercy.’❞

📔 Tafsir al-Kabir

❣ The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) took the hands of Imam Hassan (عليه السلام) and Imam Hussain (عليه السلام) and said, ❝Whoever loves me, loves these two and loves their father (عليه السلام) and mother (سلام الله علیها‎‎), then he will be with me and next to my rank of the Day of Resurrection.❞

📔 Fadha’il al-Sahabah

❣ One day some Shiites came to visit Imam Zainulabedin (عليه السلام) and said,

❝How are you, O son of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)? ❞

The Imam answered them with gentleness,

❝I am well. I praise Allah (ﷻ) for this. What about you all?❞

They replied,

❝We love you, the Ahlulbayt (عليهم السلام). ❞

The Imam then said,

❝He who loves us for the sake of Allah (ﷻ), Allah will make him enter a shady place on the day when there is no shade except His shade. He who loves us for reward, Allah will cause him to enter the garden. He who loves us for this world, Allah will provide for him from where he thinks not.❞

📔 Ibn al-Sabbagh

❣ Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) said ❝Whoever helped us with his tongue against our enemy, Allah (ﷻ) will let him speak out his argument when he stands before Him (on the Day of Judgement).❞

📔 Al-Amali

* One cannot be a lover of Ahlulbayt (عليهم السلام) while loving their enemies as Sunnis claim. To be a true lover of Ahlulbayt, you must dissociate from their enemies: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Muawiyah, Yazid, Aisha, Hafsa etc etc (may Allah remove all mercy from them all and increase their painful punishment.*

And Allah (ﷻ) knows best.

‘“If people knew the reward for performing the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (a.s), their souls would leave their bodies in remorse and they would die longing for it.”

One (Narrator) asked, “What is the reward for going to his Ziyarat?”

Imam (a.s) replied: Allah will record the reward of a thousand accepted Hajjs, a thousand accepted Umrahs, a thousand martyrs of Badr, fasting of a thousand people, a thousand accepted prostrations and the reward of freeing a thousand slaves in the way of Allah for one who goes to the Ziyarat of Imam Hussain (a.s) longing for him. He will be protected for a whole year from every calamity, the least of which is Shaitan. And Allah will appoint a noble angel to protect him from front, behind, right, left, above and below. If he dies that year, angels of divine mercy will be present with him, bathe and shroud him and seek forgiveness for him. They will also follow him till the grave and widen it as far as the eye can see and Allah will keep him safe from the squeeze of the grave and from fear of angels, Munkar and Nakir. A door will also be opened from his grave to Paradise. On Judgment Day, scroll of deeds will be given in his right hand and he will shine with a light, which illuminates from the east to west. And an announcer will call out, “He is one who performed the Ziyarat of Imam Hussain (a.s) with enthusiasm.” After that no one will remain on Judgment Day who will not wish that he had also performed the Ziyarat of Imam Hussain (a.s).”

To the Followers of Ahlul Bayt (as)

To the followers of Ahlul Bayt (as):

Remain patent; our oppression is nothing new.

When a group from those who claim to love Islam betray you, remember that they betrayed your Prophet (saw) on his deathbed, as well.

When they take what is rightfully yours, remember that they took everything from Amir al Mu’mineen, Imam Ali (as).

When they attack the women from amongst you, remember that they broke the ribs of Lady Fatima (as), daughter of RasoolAllah (saw).

When your eyes are fixed on the enemy in front of you, and your own people stab you from behind, remember the axe in the thigh of Imam al Hassan (as).

When they slaughter you and all your family and companions, remember Imam al Hussain (as) and his stand in Karbala.

When they verbally abuse you in a fruitless attempt to provoke ill words from your tongue, remember the manners of Imam Ali Zain al ‘Abideen (as) in the court of Yazid.

When they aim to discredit you in front of the masses, remember the failed attempts to embarrass Imam Mohammad al Baqir (as).

When they call you “Rafidha” (“Rejecter”), remember that Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (as) and his followers were the first to be called “Rafidhoon,” and he said, “This is a blessed name. It is Allah who names you Rafidha for you have rejected falsehood and accepted the truth.”

When they fabricate that you are plotting to overthrow the government and sentence you to death [May Allah protect Sheikh Nimr], remember that the same was done to Imam Musa al Kadhim (as).

When they massacre you with poisonous gas, remember the poison flowing through the blood of Imam Ali ar-Ridha (as).

When they attempt to bribe you with the luxuries of this world, remember the unwavering principles of Imam Mohammad al Jawad (as).

When they imprison you for standing with the truth, remember that Imam Ali al Hadi (as), too, was wrongfully imprisoned.

When you must hide your every move because they are constantly watching you, remember the secret life of Imam Hassan al Askiry (as).

And when you are waiting for justice, remember Imam Mohammad al Mahdi (ajf) is waiting to bring you that justice. How long that takes depends on our character, actions, and faith.

He who reads Surah al-Nahl every month, Allah [swt] will push away from him the problems [pain] of the Dunyah. As well as push away from him seventy different forms of afflictions, the worst of them being: craziness & leprosy, and he will be of the inhabitants of Paradise in `Adn.
