imagination barrier

People on the internet are wrong and I must correct them!

N-n-n-not again, sir! I get really bad motion sickness!

Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t.

H-here, see?? Our followers think you look r-r-really nice with glasses! Even if you can see just fine-

Round and round you go-!

H-hey, look! Some of our followers are trying to solve the barrier problem again-!

Oh for the LOVE OF-

SIGH. That is not how the barrier works!

Think back to your history class. What was the very first thing we did when we were sealed in the Underground?

The obvious: we tried to get out! Monsters climbed the tunnel to reach the entrance, only to be blocked by the barrier. They beat it until their claws bled. It didn’t do a thing.

Drilling, magic, lasers… We tried everything we could think of. Nothing has worked. We’ve been down here for one thousand years - you think we haven’t done all we could to escape?

Every monster knows of the magical wall that lies beyond the King’s castle. It’s easy to assume that that wall alone is the barrier. But that is only a part of it. The barrier is not a singular wall: it’s a spell that encompasses the entire mountain.

“Anything can enter. Nothing can leave.”

But… we must have hope. Above all, the King wants us to have hope. That is why he appointed me as Royal Scientist, after all.

We will be free one day. We will.

Quantum Tunneling

I’ve touched on this topic briefly before, but it’s so strange and interesting, I though it deserved its own post. So, what exactly is it?

Quantum tunneling is an event that’s forbidden in classical physics, but it’s perfectly allowed, and even common in quantum mechanics. When a particle approaches some barrier, there will always be some chance that it will pass through, no matter how big the barrier is.

Imagine you try rolling a ball up a steep hill. Unless you give it enough kinetic energy, the ball will never be able to get to the other side, no matter how many times you try. The potential energy of the hill is greater than the kinetic energy of the ball, meaning the other side of the hill is “classically forbidden”. However, this isn’t the case with quantum mechanics.

As you might know, particles in quantum mechanics must be described as “probability waves”. Imagine it like ripples across the surface of a pond, where the height of the wave represents how likely you’ll find the particle there. In quantum mechanics, when a probability wave strikes a barrier, part of it will be reflected, and part will pass through. This means there is always a chance you’ll see the particle on the other side.

Quantum tunneling doesn’t only apply for traveling waves, it also works for stationary waves. An electron trapped around an atom is similar to a ball stuck in a valley. Even though the electron is in a stationary configuration, it can still tunnel its way out. This might look like faster than light travel, since the wave instantly shifts from inside the atom to outside the atom, but nothing actually moved faster than light.

This works, because the probability wave wasn’t exactly zero outside of the atom to start with. In a sense, the electron was already inside and outside the atom. It’s just that when you observe it, you’ll see it inside most often.

language barrier au with woozi? :) thank you!

AU #18 (Order on this list)

Thx for suggestion! I feel like this AU takes into consideration the international fans. Suggest members/AU’s! AGH I wasn’t really happy with this when I first wrote it, so sorry for the wait…heh. Imma combine this with the soulmate AU, where the first thing your soulmate says to you is on your arm/wrist. Also “y/n” can only speak English

  • You knew from the day you knew what “Hangul” was that your soulmate would be hard to find

  • Your whole life, you had foreign symbols on your wrist, “괜찮아”, and you had no idea what they meant

  • After you stumbled across similar symbols online, you realized the symbols were Hangul

  • So great, your soulmate would say something to you in Korean

  • Or maybe text you? Bc maybe it works that way

  • So desperate to meet your soulmate, you found out those words meant basically “you ok?”

  • But sadly you didn’t really know how to say it properly (Jisoos Christ)

  • Your parents didn’t have a lot of money, so you couldn’t just go to Korea

  • (Going to Korea wouldn’t help anyways, because almost everyone speaks Korean anyway)

  • But after you graduated high school, for your birthday your parents had enough money to buy you a ticket to a kpop concert that your friends really wanted you to go to

  • It was a Seventeen concert, and you kind of wanted to go anyways bc their songs are good

  • Also you had a chance of meeting your soulmate

  • So you guys are there at the concert, and Seventeen does really well

  • You’re about to leave the event when some person just trips you

  • You’re lying on the ground and your arm hurts bc it broke your fall

  • Then you hear “Gwaenchanh-a?!?”

  • And you look up and Woozi is just looking down at you and extending his hand to help a hurt fan up

  • And you’re just kind of like

  • Excuse me, what?

  • But you take his hand anyway

  • And then Joshua rushes to you two just like WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY

  • “Uh…I said ‘excuse me what’?“

  • And Joshua just pulls you and Woozi away

  • Cue Woozi getting kind of aggressive bc Joshua just dragged him by the collar

  • You get pulled and locked into an empty room with Woozi and Joshua

  • “Joshua? Why are we here?”

  • Joshua pulls up Woozi’s sleeve

  • Plainly written in English is “excuse me what

  • There’s impatient knocking on the door and Vernon’s voice says something in Korean

  • Joshua tells you (in English) what Woozi said, and tells Woozi what you said

  • Woozi understood what you said anyway but ANYWAY

  • Joshua leaving abruptly

  • You and Woozi just staring at each other silently and take a seat next to each other on an empty sofa

  • Woozi says something in Korean to break the awkward silence

  • *blank stare*

  • Woozi sighs and “I do not speak…good English…”

  • “Hey, that was pretty good!”

  • “I…understand you, I just can’t speak English…”

  • You’re both smiling silently, but inside you sort of have a heartbreak bc you can’t understand your soulmate

  • So you two just sit silently

  • You take a piece of paper from your bag and scribble your phone number onto it and hand it to Woozi

  • Then you dash out the room because OH MY GOSH what do I do?!?

  • And so later you text Woozi while opening Google Translate to translate his texts

  • So this goes on for a while, where you and Woozi text each other in your own language and use whatever app to understand

  • He invites you to another one of their concerts so you guys can talk afterward

  • So you go to that concert, enjoy it as usual, and meet up with Woozi backstage

  • You guys sit on a couch again, alone in a room, and Woozi starts to try and teach you Korean

  • Cue you guys bonding over music and the fact kpop kind of taught you Korean🎶

  • You slowly learning Korean for your soulmate bc he can’t really put English words in a sentence even if he understands them

  • After a while, you finally begin to understand each other a little without help, so Woozi and you are finally able to talk to each other less awkwardly

  • Cue Woozi asking you out (!!!) (TBH probably bc Seventeen pressured him)

  • So you and Jihoon decide on your first date to actually just play some instruments after walking around a store and getting bored

  • You’re basically bilingual after a year; sadly your boyfriend is still…struggling, lol (also wow the improvement)

  • Then, at one point you were given a proper introduction to SVT and Jihoon says you’ve been dating; but in fluent English and even holds up a conversation fluently for a little bit!

“Guys, Y/N and I have been dating for a while” “Wow my god Jihoon you speak English? Unbelievable!”

Pairing: Jughead x Reader

Description: (Y/N) resists Jughead’s offers of a late-night chat.

Warnings: none

Word count: 1,765

A/N: this is what i’d like to call a wholesome mix of angst and fluff. enjoy!

Meet me in the hallway
Meet me in the hallway
I just left your bedroom
Give me some morphine
Is there any more to do?

(Y/N), a normally upbeat and cheerful person, was not acting like her usual self that week.  On Monday, Jughead assumed it was exhaustion. They had one of their late night talks with hot chocolate the night before, and Jughead just figured she didn’t get much sleep after that.  He decided not to bother her that much, knowing how cranky she was when she was tired.

On Tuesday, her oddness continued.  She was quieter than usual, and she focused on her internship more than usual. Jughead, although he was starting to grow suspicious, just waved it off.

“Are you okay?” he asked her during their short lunch break.

(Y/N)’s head snapped up from her phone.  “Yeah, I’m fine,” she answered quickly, taking another bite of her sandwich.

“You know, if there’s anything wrong-”

“I told you,” she interrupted him, “I’m fine.”

“Even if you’re fine,” Jughead reminded her, “you know you can always talk to me.”

Just let me know I’ll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you’ll come around
Just let me know I’ll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we’ll work it out

(Y/N) didn’t come to the internship on Wednesday, and that’s when it suddenly hit Jughead that there was something very, very wrong with her.

“Where’s Miss (Y/L/N)?” Mrs. Williams, the receptionist, asked with a tight smile.

Jughead sighed. “Honestly, I’m not sure.  Do you want me to text her?”

She shook her head. “No, that’s alright.  If you see her later today, though, make sure she is aware that it is unacceptable for her to ditch this internship.  Unless it’s for an emergency, of course, then it’s completely fine.”

Jughead, of course, knew better than that.  He knew how dedicated (Y/N) was to this internship, and he knew that something had to be amiss in order to make her skip a day.

When he was finished for the day at his internship, he walked back to the hotel, eyes down and hands in his pockets.  He went up the stairs and stopped in front of (Y/N)’s room.  Cautiously, he tapped on her door twice.

“I’m busy,” her muffled voice called from inside her room.

“Busy?” Jughead questioned from outside the door.  “Busy, (Y/N)? You didn’t even show up today!”

“Piss off, Jug,” her voice grew slightly louder, and Jughead wasn’t sure if it was because she raised her voice or if she was approaching her door.

He leaned his head against the door and sighed.  “Can you please let me in?”

“I’m not leaving until you open this door,” he warned.  “Either you come out or I’ll come in.”

“Then I hope you’re planning on staying out there all night.”

I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we’ll work it out

(Y/N) thought he was bluffing.  Hell, even Jughead figured that he was bluffing.  They were both proven wrong, however, when he started dragging blankets from off his bed onto the floor outside of (Y/N)’s door.

“What are you doing?” (Y/N)’s muffled voice asked from inside her room.  She heard rustling outside in the hallway, and she knew it was Jughead.

“I’m waiting until you open up that door,” he answered, spreading the blanket out in front of the door.

“Why?” she questioned.

“I told you,” he explained, “I’m not leaving until you talk to me.”

“Jug, I said I don’t want to talk,” she reminded him, leaning her head against the door. Jughead had his resting against the other side.  “Besides, there are other people in this hotel who will see you.”

“I don’t care.”

“Jug, please,” her voice grew weaker, “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Listen, (Y/N),” he pressed his hand against the door, “I know you don’t want to talk about it, and that’s okay.  I’m not gonna make you talk about it until you’re ready.  So I’ll be here all night, and whenever you feel like discussing it, I’m here.”

I walked the streets all day
Running with the thieves
‘Cause you left me in the hallway
Give me some more
Just take the pain away

(Y/N) didn’t know why Jughead insisted on staying outside her door all night.  She had made it perfectly clear that she was not going to confide in him anytime soon, and yet he still remained there.  She started to feel bad, knowing that the hotel hallway floor surely couldn’t be that comfortable, even if he did have layers of blankets as cushioning.

“Jughead,” she whispered at midnight, “go to bed.”

“I am,” his sleepy voice grumbled.

(Y/N) rolled her eyes. “I meant in your room.”

Although she couldn’t see it, Jughead sat up.  “You know I’m not gonna do that,” he said, shaking his head.

“Please, Jug,” she begged. “I’ll be at the internship tomorrow, I promise.  Just go back to your room, you’re not gonna be able to get a good night’s sleep out there.”

“I’ll be fine, (Y/N).” When she didn’t respond, Jughead placed his ear to the door, trying to listen for movement.  He heard a light rustling sound, and a soft thump. “(Y/N)?”

“Hold on a sec, Jug.” The noises continued, and Jughead confusedly stared at the door separating him from (Y/N).  Finally, the rustling ceased and (Y/N) sat right in front of her door.

“What was that?” he inquired after a moment of pure silence.

“I moved my blankets in front of my door,” she answered simply.

Jughead groaned. “(Y/N), come on, sleep in your bed.”

She sarcastically placed her hand on her chin, pretending to think.  She didn’t even care that Jughead couldn’t see her.  “The funny thing is that I’m pretty sure I just said that a few minutes ago, Jug.  And what did you do?  You ignored my protests.”  Jughead didn’t respond.  “So now, I’m doing the same to you.”

Just let me know I’ll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you’ll come around
Just let me know I’ll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we’ll work it out

Neither of them could fall asleep that night.

Jughead wasn’t sure if it was because he had never slept so close to (Y/N) before, even if there was a door separating them, or if it was his concern for his friend.

When he closed his eyes, he imagined the barrier would disappear.  He would roll over and wrap (Y/N) in his arms, burying his head into her hair.  He would whisper sweet nothings to her as she sobbed into his chest, explaining why she had been acting so strangely for the past few days.

But then he’d open his eyes, and the door would reappear.  He knew that even if (Y/N) did open her door, he wouldn’t hold her the way he dreamt.  That would cross the line between friendship and something more, and Jughead knew (Y/N) was not about to take that leap.  At the very best, he would provide her with some hot chocolate.

He heard her tossing and turning in her blankets on the other side of the door, so he pressed his hand on the door in a pathetic attempt to comfort her.  It must have worked, though, because the rustling of the sheets stopped.

“(Y/N)?” he whispered, leaning his forehead against the door.  “Are you awake?”

“Of course I’m awake, dumbass, the floor is uncomfortable,” (Y/N) sassily replied, her voice thick with fatigue.  Jughead softly laughed.  “I’m guessing you’re awake for the same reasons.”

“Precisely,” he confirmed. They fell into silence, and after a couple of minutes, Jughead was sure (Y/N) had been overwhelmed by exhaustion and finally fell asleep, so he settled into his makeshift bed and closed his eyes.

Gotta get better, gotta get better
Gotta get better, gotta get better
Gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we’ll work it out

Jughead didn’t know what time it was, but a loud thump woke him up.  He shot up and glanced at (Y/N)’s door.  More loud noise continued to leak from her room until it suddenly stopped.  Jughead prepared to knock, but before his hand could touch the door, a teary-eyed (Y/N) opened it.  Her bottom lip quivered as she stood in front of him.  Never had he seen her look so fragile.

“I’m sorry,” she croaked.

Jughead shook his head as he pulled her into a hug.  “There’s nothing to be sorry for, (Y/N).”  Neither of them said anything else, and so they sat in the middle of the hotel hallway floor at some ungodly hour, clinging onto each other.

It wasn’t exactly how Jughead imagined it: not a word was uttered, but he was still holding (Y/N) with her tears staining his pajama shirt.

If Jughead was selfish, he would’ve told (Y/N) how he felt.  He would have finally confessed that he had a crush on her, something that he had been struggling to accept for the past few weeks.  But Jughead was not selfish; this was (Y/N)’s moment to be vulnerable, not his.  They still had a couple weeks left together.  He still had time.

After what felt like an eternity, (Y/N)’s sobs subsided and she fell asleep on Jughead’s lap.  He softly smiled as he picked her up and gently laid her on her bed, placing a blanket over her sleeping form.  He picked up his blankets from outside her door and dragged them back to his room, where he carelessly tossed them onto his bed right before he flopped onto it.

(Y/N) would never tell him what was wrong.  He knew that. But that didn’t stop him from smiling to himself because he knew, even if she didn’t want to talk about it, she would always come to him for a shoulder to cry on.  And for Jughead, that was enough.

We don’t talk about it
It’s something we don’t do
'Cause once you go without it
Nothing else will do

He saw her the next morning at their internship.  He smiled from across the room at her, and she smiled back.  Both of them had dark circles under their eyes, the only evidence of what occurred the previous night.

They never spoke about that night.  Neither of them ever talked about what happened, and neither of them ever would. It was a memory that remained hidden, the only witness besides the two of them being that hotel hallway.

Why do you identify as bisexual rather than pansexual? For me pansexual better expresses that I am attracted to people, no matter their gender and is more inclusive of intersex and non-binary people. Bisexual to me reiforces the idea that only men and women deserve being identified in sexual terms, and anyone who falls outside this isnt even worth counting. Which I dont like. So yea I go for pan sexual. But thats just my interprtation. Id be interested in hearing yours?

Bi means two or more, not just men and women. I personally cannot imagine gender being a barrier, but there is a lot of overlap between bi and pan and the decisions people usually choose one identity over the other are personal.

For me it’s about how hard I fought to BE bisexual. To get out of the closet and not be forced back in, to not invalidate the relationships I had with women because I felt forced to choose either “lesbian” or “straight” when neither identity fit me.

Ezio x Reader - Language Barrier

[Imagine that there is a language barrier between you and Ezio when you first meet in an arranged marriage scenario. (AU-ish) (And boy, am I going to try not to abuse google translator)]

The nervousness that raked through your body was enough to cause your palms to sweat as you gripped the reins of the horse you rode. You didn’t speak Italian…not much, anyways, as you were more familiar with English than any other language given your household and where you hailed from, but you had a translator with you, and that eased you a bit. The marriage had been arranged since birth as only you knew that his family was part of the assassins in Italy. Your ancestors protected their secret and aided them well, and when you were born down the line, an arrangement was made.

“You look so tense,” spoke your translator, as he rode closer beside you. He was a middle-aged man with a beard and short hair that was mostly gray. His name was Pierozzo Armonni, and he too worked for the Italian Brotherhood. Pierozzo wore the Assassin symbol with pride upon his belt, which kept his hooded attire into place. “You know he is a good man, so why stress your body so?”

A smile crept upon your lips ever so slightly as you looked at Pierozzo with an unamused look of sorts. “It is not his person that makes me ever so nervous…it is the fact I know very little when it comes to speaking to him, and, to my understanding, it will be the same for him.”

Pierozzo stifled a laugh. It was a good natured laugh, so you knew he was only trying to find the light of the situation.

“You will find this funny until you end up translating well into our honeymoon,” you jabbed lightly with a wicked smirk to accompany your words. If you were to be honest with yourself, humor would be welcomed about now as you were finding your heart beating loudly in your ears at this point.

Man, AJ Lee would’ve had a ball in this era of women’s wrestling, huh? Lee was an underrated wrestling talent with quickness and lucha elements in her moveset, yet there is an argument that she was big fish in a small pond of meddling Diva’s talent. Lee’s selling and pyschology would translate well in any era of women’s wrestling, it’s spot on. Her skipping, mannerisms, and promo skills is what AJ had over the other women during that time. That’s the crux of AJ’s talent, she’s a great character worker. With concise mic skills and brilliant mannerisms, she was instantly over post Wrestlemania 28, as D-Bry’s punching bag transitioning into mentally unstable queen of the division. While WWE has done all but write her from history, Lee’s arguably one of the most over women that has stepped foot in the company.

Her rise to stardom allowed her to finally make some leeway in the Divas division in 2013, leading to her first championship reign. Over the next two years, she would serve as the unquestionable face of the women’s wrestling in the biggest sports entertainment company on the planet.

Not the prototypical Diva by any stretch of the imagination, she broke barriers and served as the inspiration for young female fans in the audience, not to mention her fellow competitors across the independent scene who may have spent the early portion of their careers believing they would never make it because they did not look a certain way

I felt like AJ’s retirement is even more tragic due to the NXT women being called up after she retired. Imagine: AJ Lee vs Charlotte, AJ vs Sasha, AJ vs Bayley, AJ vs Alexa, AJ vs Mickie James!! I hope one day she comes back.

My favorite matches of hers are:

Queen of FCW title match vs Serena

NXT Season 3 vs Naomi

AJ vs Nikki on Raw 2015

Payback Diva’s title vs Kaitlyn

Natalya as well, TLC ‘13,

AJ vs Natalya - Main Event early 2014

My fave moment: The Total Divas PipeBombshell:

“OMG you guys, I just watched last night’s episode of Total Divas and it was insane, oh my gosh. I mean, the Bellas were dealing with their obvious daddy issues. The Funkadactyls broke up and then got back together again. Natalya’s fiancé isn’t much of a man. And the other two were also there. It was great, it really was, and it was the end of the world and it’s only Sunday nights on the E! network. Do you wanna know what I see when I look in that ring? Honestly? A bunch of cheap, interchangeable, expendable, usuless women. Women who have turned to reality television ‘cause they just weren’t gifted enough to be actresses. And they just weren’t talented enough to be champion. I have done more in one year than all of you have done in your entire collective careers. I have saved your Divas division, I have shattered glass ceilings, I have broken down doors. Why? So, so, a bunch of ungrateful, stiff, plastic manikins can waltz on through without even getting as much of a thank you? You guys can’t even go backstage and shake my hand and look at me in the eyes because you know that I worked my entire life to get here, I gave my life to this and you were just handed fifteen minutes of fame. I didn’t get here because I was cute, or because I came from a famous wrestling family, or because I sucked up to the right people. I got here because I am good. I earned this Championship and no matter how many red carpets you guys wanna walk in your four thousand dollars ridicolous heels, you will never be able to lace up my Chuck Taylors. You’re all worthless excuses for women and you will never be able to touch me. And that is reality.” – And even till this day, none of them ever did!

Litha for Broke Wiccans

I wanted to design a Litha ritual that could be performed alone, in your bedroom if need be, for very little money.

stuff you need
- some space on a flat surface
- a drink
- a food
- a dance mix
- a symbol of the God (think the sun and men and horns)
- Some kinda plan for the summer
- an athame or another pointy thing
- Find North, or pick a direction to be north for the evening

extra stuff that would be cool
- an image of the Goddess (think moon and women and dirt)
- an image of the Godden (think stars and nonbinary people and glitter)
- a candle (led is ok)
- Fire Themed stuff (decorations, scarves, pictures)
- Stuff to draw with

1) Cast the circle. The most basic way to do this is to take a pointy thing and turn in a circle, imagining a barrier going up around you. Tie it off by drawing a pentagram.

2) Call the elements (East/Air, South/Fire, West/Water, North/Earth). “HEY (ELEMENT) I LOVE YOU WILL YOU COME PARTY WITH ME” is the general idea of what you say.

3) Call the God, Goddess, and Godden. It’s very similar to calling the elements.

4) Tell the God your plans for the summer. This is the actual work, the hard part. What do you really, really want to do? Are you gonna pet 50 dogs? going to the beach? learn a new skill? Are you gonna focus on not dying? All valid plans. Especially the not dying one. That is a great plan, maybe the best.

BONUS STEP: Remember how ancient hunters would paint a succesful hunts on the cave walls? Draw your own success. Double points for fingerpaints. Go hogwild.

5) Make offerings. The first bite of food and the first sip of drink are traditional. If you made a drawing, that is also a good offering.

6) Have fun! Eat the food, drink the drink and have a small dance party! If you are not able to dance for whatever reason, it is okay to sit or lie down and just tap out a rhythm while you listen to your favorite grooves. The key is to do something you can really get into.

7) Once you are partied out, turn down the tunes. Eat the food offering. Drink the drink offering. They are blessed by the God, and he will come with you as you enjoy the summer.

8) Say goodbye to the God, Goddess, and Godden. “THANK YOU FOR COMING I HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON” is the general idea of what you say.

9) Say goodbye to the elements. It’s very similar to saying goodbye to the deities.

10) Take down the circle. Use the pointy thing. Follow your instincts.

Getting Started With Magic

This post is based off of my experiences. YMMV.

If I could go back in time and talk to my (more) inexperienced self, this is the letter that I would hand me.

A Warning

No matter how weak think you are, you are powerful enough to destroy your own life. Respect what magic can bring you. Respect what it can take away.

Bits and Bobs

“Magic” means to make stuff happen through nonphysical means.

“Visualization” means imagining. Visions are spontaneous visualizations.

Never let anyone take away your power.

Never, ever, invite a spirit in to your mind or body.

Never let anyone or anything make you believe you do not have the power to do something.

Magic is dangerous. Respect it.

It is okay to want validation that your beliefs are real. It is not really very nice to go around casting spells on people just to prove to yourself that you have power.

Your beliefs will evolve. Don’t marry yourself to one system.

Magic is reflected in Nature. Nature is reflected in magic. If it doesn’t happen in Nature, it doesn’t happen in magic.

Order of Operations

Get started with magic in this order:

Prepare → cleanse → protect → prosperity → spells and divination. During all of this, continue your research and education.

There are a few things you will want before you get started in magic.

  • A journal – keep a regular diary of things that happen to you in your day to day life. Include all divination you do, visions you have, your dreams, interesting things that happen to you, and all spells you cast or magical workings you perform. Remember that a journal can also be on your phone or laptop. As a side note, a Book of Shadows is a Wiccan tool with special significance to that path. If you are not Wiccan you do not need a BOS. A plain journal and spellbook will suffice.
  • A spellbook – if you want something separate from your journal to keep spells in. Record in this notebook, binder, or text document different spells you want to try and have tried, as well as any magical recipes you find interesting. I find that a side Tumblr blog makes an excellent spellbook.
  • Three plant friends – acquire any three of these dried herbs:  rosemary, sage, rue, agrimony, angelica, anise, basil, bay leaf, caraway, castor beans, cinnamon, cloves, eucalyptus, hyssop, lavender, mint, mugwort, mullein, valerian, vervain, or wormwood. Getting them from the kitchen or grocery aisle will be just fine. These herbs are all very powerful protectors and will work with you to your benefit. Get as much as you can of each.
  • Arts and crafts supplies – depending on your inclinations you will want to be able to craft your own poppets, sachets, wish boxes, magical inks, and the like. Any hobby can be adapted to become a magical outlet. If you would like a shopping list, here you go: A good pair of scissors, a box of pins or needles, some good red or black thread (cotton or biodegradable if possible), jars of red and/or black ink, dip pens, a book of cardstock for making paper talismans, neutral colored fabric (cotton or biodegradable), a variety of candles (white unscented tea lights are fine, get a carton of 100; jar candles are excellent in any color; and taper candles in a variety of colors), candle holders, incense in any scent you prefer, incense holders, charcoal self-lighting disks, a live herbal plant (one of the herbs listed above will work great), a fire-safe dish in which to hold the charcoal disks.
  • Storage containers – you will be needing plenty of these! Mason jars or jars of any type are excellent. Get also plastic baggies, and start a collection of boxes of every size. You will thank yourself later.

If you are short on money (hopefully, not for long) or you must necessarily remain “in the woods”, then simply acquire a journal and your three plant friends, and let the rest come as it will.

Begin by choosing for yourself a magical name. This is any name or word that you enjoy. If you are part of a tradition with rules on how to choose a magical name, follow that tradition’s rules. Otherwise, choose any name you like. Record your magical name in your journal and always use it when doing magic or interacting with spirits.

It is time to do your first magic! In magic, cleansing is a vital tool. Just as you clean your home physically, you also need to clean it spiritually. There is no need to agonize over doing your first spell. Cleanse as soon as you are able; do it today if possible.

Take a portion of your three magical plant friends. Put them in a cloth sachet, and tie the top closed with some thread or yarn. Now it is time to do your first spirit work. Over the sachet, repeat these words with the correct names substituted:

“Spirit of [herb], I humbly request you visit me today. Please bring your renowned powers of cleansing and protection to my spell. Infuse with the water and make me pure.”

Repeat this three times, one for each of the plants you have chosen. As you say these words, visualize (imagine) that the spirit of the plant returns to the dried herbs and glows a vivid color. Drop the sachet in a hot bath and soak. Scrub yourself down with the herbal water starting at the crown of your head and going down towards your toes. As you wash, visualize the vivid colors of the plant spirits washing over you and carrying away all gunky energy, all parasites, and every bad and negative feeling you have. Even as you finish your bath and dry off, the colors remain around you in a protective shield. Perhaps when you close your eyes and think about being protected, you will feel safe and see those colors again.

Congratulations – you have performed your first spell! Drain the tub as normal and thank the plants (“thank you [herb] for your help today.”) Then dispose of the plants in the compost if possible; otherwise toss them. Keep your cloth sachet for later use. If you do not have a tub, do this instead: ask the plants for help as usual, but instead of adding them to a sachet, put them in a quart of boiling water as if making tea. Once the tea has cooled, take it to the shower and pour it over yourself, using that water to wash instead. Use the same visualizations and closing.

After you have cleansed yourself, record the process in your journal and how you feel afterwords.

Now it is time to cleanse your home. Again you will be calling upon your plant allies. The easiest way to do this – and perhaps the most traditional – is to burn some protective herbs as incense and fumigate your home with them. You will again want to invite the plant spirits back in to the dried herb matter. Carrying the burning plants from room to room, repeat a chant of purification and protection (the simplest being, “purify, protect, and bless.” But I encourage you to write your own.) It is okay to think your magical chant as well. When you think magical spells, have a device that signifies you are speaking words of Magical Significance. I do this by imagining my voice turns a certain color and emanates throughout the worlds. Find your own way to focus your thoughts so that it is clear to you when you are and aren’t using magical thinking.

Unfortunately not many of us can hotbox our entire house with rosemary smoke. A good second option is to again brew your herbs as a tea, and strain it out, then pour the tea to a spray bottle and spritz your home with magical water instead. Again repeat your magical chant.

Here is a third option: take a bowl of your enspirited plant allies in to each room. Sit quietly and imagine their vivid spirits filling the room, pushing out any bad or negative energies or spirits. If you cannot fully imagine each room being filled, then it isn’t being totally purified. As the spirits fill the room, again, say or think your magical chant.

Especially if you chose that last option, you may find yourself to be rather drained after two cleansings in a day. This is quite normal. Magical energy is an energy, just like any other, that us humans use in our day to day life. Just as we are tired after expending emotional or physical energy, we are also tired after expending magical energy. Eat plenty of nutritious food and get lots of sleep. Be sure to record your spellwork in your journal.

In general you will want to protect yourself, your home, and whoever lives in your home, from all forms of spiritual attack. No defense is totally foolproof. In Nature, the stronger a defense is, the more burdensome it is on whomever it is protecting. Lock something up in Fort Knox and it is very well protected, but not very flexible or accessible. You do not want to lock yourself up in an ivory tower; you just want to add a few fortifications to your home.

Start by crafting a personal protection for yourself.

Cross Protection

Take two nails or twigs from holy trees. Hold one vertically and imagine that it is an extremely powerful barrier, carrying with it either the virtue of iron or the virtues of the tree it came from. Hold the other twig or nail horizontally and imagine a barrier shooting out from it, so that nothing could possibly pass. Place the two twigs or nails together so they form a cross or X shape. As they touch, imagine a mighty clang ring out as your two protectors seal together to create an impenetrable shield. Bind the twigs or nails with black or red thread. Ensure the sticks never come apart again; if they do, even for a moment, the enchantment is lost. Tie more thread to this amulet or attach it to a necklace to wear it.

SATOR Square

Draw the SATOR Square on good card stock if available; an index card will do – otherwise, plain paper. Use black or red ink – magical ink is awesome, otherwise a Sharpie is fine. As you draw each line, be aware that you are drawing an immensely powerful protective amulet. With each line and letter you draw, imagine the power within building up and up until it is almost exploding. As you make the last mark, watch the power “click” together and become a cohesive unit. Like a wave, the power will spread out and form a complete and powerful shield, perhaps golden or yellow in color. Nothing malicious can cross this barrier. Punch a small hole in the paper (the square itself does not need to be large at all; make it as small as you desire while allowing the lines to remain distinct) and string it on thread to wear.

Jewelry Enchantment

Take any one or three of the protective herbs listed above. Burn them on charcoal disks or make a tea out of them. Hold your chosen article of jewelry over the smoke or place it within the water. Chant three times, “purify, protect, and bless.” Call to the spirit of the plant: “Rosemary, I call on you today to lay a powerful enchantment on this [ring, necklace, etc]. Make it the strongest shield that you know, which no malicious force could dream of crossing.” Take some whiskey, red wine, or raw egg. Put a drop if it on the jewelry as payment to the plant. Perform a sign of sealing (such as saying “so mote it be”).

Practice crafting personal protections for a few days. Have many on hand, with different words and plant spirits used in their creation. Carefully record each enchantment in your journal so you always know which enchantment to use when the time comes for defense.

Now you will need to protect your home. Take a jar or other container. Put in it some dirt from your property and put it in the jar. Draw an accurate picture of your home or apartment and put the picture in the jar. Now choose three of your plant friends. Call their spirits as you have been practicing. “Spirit of [herb], I request your aid in my spell today. Bring ultimate protection against all evil and malicious force to my home.” Use your intuition to determine how much of each herb to add to the jar or container. When the you are done, imagine the vivid colors of the plant spirits growing massive in scale, covering your entire home in a powerful and impenetrable shield. By the power of three no malicious force may cross this barrier. Close the container and light a candle on top of it to charge it and seal it. Store the container in a safe space and recharge it with candles once a month. In times of crisis, recharge the jar either weekly or daily. Also leave it in the sun for a few hours, once a month. If the dried herbs within rot, you are experiencing a major spiritual attack. Immediately redouble your defenses and take care of your business.

As with all your spells, be sure to record these in your journal.

Now you have performed cleansings and protections and already have your first experience in magic and spirit work. Now that the basics are taken care of, let’s roll around to building an altar and taking care of a few basic problems in your life.

A prosperity altar is in my opinion the first non-protective magic someone should attempt. If you have a major crisis in your life, take care of that first; otherwise, turn to prosperity. Prosperity does not mean greed or wealth. Think of all the areas in life you can be prosperous: In your hobbies, in your job, in your school work, in your motivation, in your friendships. A prosperity altar brings muchness in to your life. It removes blockages that prevents you from being successful.

Traditionally an altar is a cleared away space such as a table or shelf where things can be arranged and placed with magical intent. Not everyone is able to have such a space, however. Consider creating a Tumblr blog as an altar, or a large jar or box.

First you will want to cleanse your shelf or container. Again bring out your plant allies (I hope you really did buy a large quantity of them) and cleanse in your own personal way. Consider laying down an altar cloth. I use folded up sarongs for my altar cloths. You can use anything you wish. Consider sewing or knitting your own altar cloth for a personal touch.

Begin to collect and add a variety of items to your alter. Here are some suggestions.

  • Candles in the color of money or valuable gemstones. Green, gold, and silver are traditional.
  • Real or fake money, and as much of it as possible.
  • Costume jewelry, glass ‘gemstones’, and rocks painted gold or silver.
  • Rice, grains, almonds, allspice, cinnamon, chamomile, dill, fenugreek, mint, and basil.
  • Images of magpies, dragons, or other entities that collect treasures.
  • Drawings or images of yourself being highly prosperous, receiving everything you want, and having things going your way.
  • Statements of power, such as “I am prosperous” or “I receive every good thing.”

Give each item a purpose. “This candle acts as a beacon to draw prosperity to me. This stone acts as an anchor to hold prosperity in my life. This statement of power directs the energy in my life.” Meditate with your altar once a day or however often it is possible for you to do so. Visualize your altar steadily gaining more power, overflowing with prosperous energies. This altar acts as a center point for prosperous energies to enter your life. Expect to see changes in your prosperity soon.

Spells and Divination

Think of what you would like to change in your life. Most adults have one or two things they would prefer to change. Would you like more hours at work? Or for your co-worker to get out of town for a little while? Or, perhaps you want to heal a relationship with an old friend, or make enough money to go on a trip next spring. Make a list of things you want to change.

Listing each individual spell is outside the scope of this basic guide. However, I can go over some simple spellcrafting.

Each spell should have three components. Your willpower and focus, the power of a spirit ally, and a physical action that supports your magical goals.

Your willpower and focus means directing the energies you raise through words, actions, and visualizations. In the home cleansing, you may have visualized the spirits filling a room while you repeated the phrase “purify, protect, and bless.” This is using your willpower and focus. Another example is meditating before your prosperity altar and imagining good things happening to you. Working with tools and ingredients can focus your willpower. Consider the power of stabbing a poppet with a needle; this is an excellent point of focus. I prefer to specifically use a visualization and a spoken phrase to raise and focus willpower.

A spirit ally may be one of the plants we have been using up to this point. It could also be a crystal, or the flame elemental from a candle. It could be the spirit of the Sun or Moon, or the land you live upon. It could be a feather or a dish of water. When constructing your spirit call, speak directly and honestly. Ask the spirit of whatever it is you are working with to come to you and aid you in your magic. Of course you will want to align the spirit work you are doing with the spell at hand. You would not call on a plant of purity to curse someone, for example.

Lastly, you will need to make physical actions that support the intent of your spell. For a job spell, this means making calls and turning in resumes. For a friendship spell, this means going out to try and meet new people. Imagine that reality is smooth as glass, and magic is floating above it, trying to get in. But the surface of reality is too dense and smooth for magic to get a foothold. When you take physical actions that support your spell, you create grooves in reality that allow your magic to come down and manifest.

To craft a spell, first write down what you want to happen. “I want more hours at work,” for example. Decide what spirits you would like to include in your spell, and what props you would like to use. Simply do your research on spirits – in this spell, let’s use almonds and basil. I think a good prop would be to make a mock time sheet, and fill it out with you receiving exactly how many hours you want. Don’t go overboard or you may be asked to work too often!

Invite the spirits of almond and basil to your spell. “Spirit of Almond, I ask you come to my spell today, to bring me great treasures and wealth. Spirit of Basil, I ask you come to my spell today, to bring me prosperity unbound.” Explain to the plant spirits what you want to happen: “I require more hours at work. I want to work forty hours a week.” Then, employing your willpower and focus, visualize the plant spirits flowing through your life and opening up pathways that will give you more hours at work. Perhaps store your mock time sheet with the herbs and forty pennies (one for each hour you wish to work in a week) to create a jar spell. Or, burn the herbs and time sheet to release their power in to the universe. After this, employ your physical actions by reminding your boss that you are free to work more hours.

Just remember to use your focus, have a spirit ally, and to back your spell up with physical actions. Here are two other ideas for spells:

To make yourself more open and friendly, create a poppet of yourself (remember that poppets can be made out of anything – cloth, wax, clay, flour paste, paper mache, etc.) Call on the spirit of allspice to make yourself more warm and friendly. Mix the allspice in with the poppet you create or coat the poppet with allspice. Explain to the poppet what you want to happen. Store it in a safe place. Then, watch youtube videos or read books on how to open up and be more charismatic.

To increase your psychic awareness, draw a picture of yourself with a large purple third eye. Take some bay leaf, cinnamon, rose, or star anise and call upon their spirits for their renowned powers of psychic awareness. Place these herbs on the third eye of your drawing and meditate, imagining your own third eye opening and shining out a brilliant purple light. Store the herbs with your drawing as a jar spell and meditate with it once a day for three weeks, then after that once or twice a week. Your physical action should be practicing intuitive thinking.

Just as you practice spellwork, you will probably want to practice divination! Acquire some tarot or oracle cards, runes, or three pennies for the I-Ching. Or, simply use a book for bibliomancy. I will leave it up to you to research exactly how to divine, but let me tell you that spirit work and divination go hand in hand. Also consider using your plant or crystal allies to promote your divination skills and guide you to draw the right cards and make the correct interpretations.

brokenknifefrisk  asked:

"...Er. I hope this doesn't bring down the good mood too much, but I just thought of this... What if there are more skeletons out there in the same situation? Or even other monsters? I mean, you and Zero are pretty much the only ones going out and exploring because everyone else is focusing on the Barrier... Just imagine how much sooner these two could have been found if there were more monsters who thought exploring the universe you live in was a worthwhile endeavor..."

“That’s… actually the reason we were all the way out there in the first place? Fort Kickass is the most distant ‘base’ we have… it’s the closest to the Ruins… but we’ve been pushing out further each time because there’s always been rumors of a ‘Lost Colony’.”

“The reasons for them being left behind always vary. It was a meteor shower. It was one last bombardment by the humans. They were too weak or too sick to make it. They stayed behind and waited for a contact that never came. The only thing that’s certain is between then and now, monsters became… complacent, I guess.”

“With comfortable artificial environments, we stopped exploring Open Space. With nowhere to go except between those settlements, we stopped making maps and star charts to navigate by. We even stopped farming, with the exception of raw materials for alchemy.”

“We’ve… we’ve lost so much since the Civil War, things like the suspended animation chamber these two were in… they may as well have come from another planet. We’re so focused, as a species, on trying to escape the Ebott Nebula, we’ve forgotten why we came here in the first place.”

“So if there are others, I sure hope we can find them… ”

I'm taking a stand against our lost initiatory rights.

Adulthood has been a serious undertaking across our world for thousands of years due to the simple fact that our bodies undergo changes that are unique to each biological sex. The elders saw this as a time to pass on the wisdom they’ve gained while living with the unique challenges and experiences that shape the lives of either sex.

When colonialism spread like the plague it is, the first targets where the shamans and lore keepers. Wipe out the culture to replace it with your own. They did just that, and since then we’ve lost that passing of wisdom.

When you diverge your expression from what’s in line with your biological sex you are no longer personally exploring that mystery and you have every right to do so. Let not even imagination be your barrier in doing so - be wild with who you are. Leave the initiatory titles of Man and Woman behind for those who wish to walk those paths without further dilution upon them.

For you do not know what you cannot experience. Hormones and self-declarations do not make you a Man - they do not make you a Woman. You are shaped into those paths by following the mysteries of your biological sex. There’s no criteria, there’s no “you aren’t a true x if you don’t y” stop that tasteless judgement many seem so quick to twist my words into. I’m asking to hold on to the respect of those that are trying to reclaim what’s been lost by fighting against every outside influence and bringing out how they truly feel and how they want to act. Living as examples, because how the fuck else can we know what masculinity and femininity really mean if no one sincerely and unabashedly follows the instincts of their biological sex? We have not the culture to show us, we have not the wisdom to be lead by if we lose respect for these paths and words.

Let me be absolutely clear.
We are a species that propagates through a biological binary of sexes alone. The combination of a sperm and an egg make another life.

This does not negate, in the slightest bit, your right and freedom to express yourself in every way imaginable and more. This biological fact is not a threat to who you are and who you can be. It doesn’t make one sex better than the other; It’s no reason to treat the other with contempt. Those are rude behaviors regardless of who you are or what body you have. It is literally the only way to bring about another Life. That’s it, a Fact, not a story, not a belief, not a justification for anything.

The threat that has brought you pain has been those who wish to put us into boxes of have to’s and should be’s; The advertisers and cultural engineers that keep us as children for we are a threat to them as adults.

Those that walk down the Trans path are a necessary reaction bringing so much awareness to the pain our modern mutated and poisonous prisons of gender wrought upon our population. Their stories and their lives remind us of this each day.

My goal is to take back what it means to be our two biological sexes from the hands of the cultural engineers who have poisoned an already atrophied understanding of what it means to be a Man; What it means to be a Woman. So we do not lose these powerful catalysts of personal growth to the essential ambiguity in dissolving the painful boxes of what gender has come to be know as.

Mars Celestial Fire Surround!
Make this area protected ground
For all those whom I hold dear
Evil nor negativity is welcome here
Protect us from any that cause harm
That is the power of this charm

If you wish you may call upon any elements (especially fire!), spirits or god/desses of choice before beginning
Light candle and incense. If you wish you may carve the symbol of Mars into the candle.
Give any non-powdered herbs and spices a good smashing with your tool of choice
Combine herbs and spices with salt, mix well
Sprinkle the salt mixture around the space you wish to protect while reciting the incantation. You may make a circle, sprinkle in the four directions or five corners of the pentagram or cover the entire area if you so choose. (If protecting a whole house focus on any entry points such as doors, windows, fireplaces and vents.)
If you feel comfortable doing so, pick up your incense and walk around the space, wafting it with your tool of choice into the entire space.
If you have more than one gemstone you may arrange them however you like such as in a circle, the four directions or five points of the pentagram. If you only have one simply hold it in your hand.
Sit in the area and imagine a barrier of fiery energy encasing the space, keeping out all unwanted energies and entities. Sit for as long as you like.
Once your feel the space is sufficiently protected you may blow out/snuff your candle if it is still lit and sweep or vacuum up the salt mixture (which may or may not have picked up any negative energy for you to dispose of).

Special thank you to @paganmovedex for the inspiration, @cosmic-witch for the compilation of resources and @mychemicalpanic00 for their room cleansing idea.
