Pets at Home is taking dry cat food off the shelves after animals started fitting

PETS at Home has recalled four lines of cat food after some animals collapsed and started fitting. The major pet retailer said the three cats became “seriously unwell”.

A statement on the company’s website says: “We are sorry to inform you that we are recalling these AVA products from our range of dry cat food.

“An investigation has revealed that, in the four affected products, the level of thiamine (vitamin B1) was much lower than we had specified. Testing confirmed only these four products are affected.

“We are aware of three cats which, sadly, became seriously unwell four to six weeks after switching to one of the affected products and required veterinary care. All three cats exhibited symptoms of sudden collapse, fitting, widespread twitching and general unsteadiness which are not the classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.”

This is Shasta, a lovely Siamese who belongs to the beloved @mostlycatsmostly On Friday July 7, 2017, Shasta was admitted to the emergency room with free air trapped in her chest, possibly due to a punctured lung. The vet costs are extremely high; Shasta’s stayed overnight already and may need additional treatment into this next week.

If you’ve ever needed a pick-me-up and @mostlycatsmostly has brought you happiness, I urge you to donate to their PayPal-

Even $1 is huge at this point, and they could use anything they receive. Not a week goes by that I don’t see them signal boost other veterinary donation pages, or bring attention to an adoptable animal, or send well wishes to sick pets in need. They deserve every chance in the world to see their baby come home healthy and safe. ➡️

Signs that people are ignorant and neglective pet owners

• when you tell them they’re doing something wrong in a polite manner, their first response is to tell you to “fuck off” or “shut up”

• when you offer them resources or information that could help them, they tell you that they “know how to take care of their pet” and that they’re taking care of their pet “their way”

• they believe that any person that views the way they house their pet as less than ideal is unnecessarily targeting and attacking them

• when they start to wonder why their pet is ill and lethargic and a person tells them it’s because they’re living in an unhealthy environment, they ignore the other person’s (or people’s) facts and information, try to excuse the problems with the way their pet is living with stuff like “i don’t have enough room” or “i don’t have the time to do all that”, and try to solve the problem through methods that do not work unless the pet is in an environment where it is able to recover and heal

• their pet(s)’s health and environment are viewed as things that would inconvenience their lives if they were to improve for the better. i.e. them upgrading from a vase to an actual aquarium would take up to much room and make too much noise

• they see people who maintain their pet(s)’s happiness and health through keeping them in the proper environment as “extra” ✨

• they call neglecting their pet their own “style of pet-keeping”

SIGNAL BOOST: PetSmart is selling a recalled brand of jerky treats that are literally killing hundreds of dogs around north america

“I believe that Authority products are directly linked to the death of my dog, Gidget, a 10 pound Chihuahua.  There is an equal body of information that supports the illness/death of other pets as related to these products since the sudden and untimely death of my beloved pet.  Since her passing I have pledged to be her voice and to get the information out in the hopes of saving other dogs. I have taken to social media only to be approached by other pet owners who reported that their pets had gotten ill or died shortly and suddenly after eating the Authority treats.  Reported illness and deaths have occurred locally, in other states nationwide and in Canada. A constant and common factor in all these dogs are the AUTHORITY PRODUCTS.  No pet owner or pet should have to endure the effects of these treats.  It was a terrible painful death for our girl.  She deserved better.

The FDA requested the jerky product name and lot number.  The FDA then requested her medical records and body Gidget’s body 48 hours after her death and performed a necropsy on her at the New Bolten Center at the University of Pennsylvania.  The results are forth coming.  What is certain is the Authority Chicken Jerky that Gidget ate is listed on the FDA’s list of known jerkies to cause illness/death.  So why is it still on the shelves of PetSmart? How many dogs have to die?

As consumers we need to pull together and demand that PetSmart take action to make our pets safe.  They need to stop cutting corners and provide products that do not cause our pets illness and death.  This would be right thing to do. Please join me in this cause, and help all pet owners to protect the ones we love.”

These treats are literally on recall from the FDA and PetSmart is still selling them, this is so illegal and immoral its not even funny please sign this petition and end this nighmare

Hi everybody!

Unfortunately our pet rat Papyrus is having some serious health trouble and has gotten more vet bills, so we’re having another sale. This is *not* an emergency, we’ve already paid his vet bill, but he may have more vet bills in the near future, and etsy and a part-time job stocking shelves are our only sources of income right now so things are pretty tight and all etsy sales are super helpful to us and very much appreciated!

Use the coupon code PAPYRUS2 at checkout for 10% off your order, through April 5th.

We have stim jewelry, communication jewelry, pride jewelry, knitwear, and more! We’re a tiny autistic-run business, and everything in the shop is handmade by us.

Can’t Afford the Vet?

You have probably heard the phrase “if you can’t afford the vet, you can’t afford the pet” and it is true to a degree. Pet ownership doesn’t stop after the purchase of the animal and it is my personal opinion that getting a pet when you know you cannot afford vet care is selfish.

There are of course many people who fully intend on taking their pet to the vet but life happens: they lose their job, family members get sick, the pet gets hit by a car, etc. What do these people do? The absolute best thing to do is be prepared as much as possible. Get pet insurance! For something like $25 a month you can get your pet insured and it will cover most illnesses and accidents. Get a savings account. Put money away every month, as much as you can afford and use it only for vet visits. If your dog gets hit by a car or needs emergency surgery it can easily cost $5,000.00 so try to have that much in savings ready to go.

Go see the vet at least yearly. I cannot stress enough how much preventative care does exactly that: prevents illnesses. I have caught heart disease, cancer, retinal disease and more just doing annual exams. The owners had no idea their pet was ill. By taking care of these things before they got worse these owners saved thousands of dollars. Vaccines are important too, especially for puppies and kittens. A parvo vaccine may be $20, treating parvo can cost into the thousands.

Understand that you don’t have to do everything your vet recommends, but also understand the repercussions of declining. For me personally, I cannot sleep at night knowing I didn’t offer every single pet owner the very best care. Who am I to judge what people can afford? On a more selfish level, if I didn’t offer the best care and a pet died or became ill and the owner filed a board complaint, I could be fined or even lose my license.  This is true for all vets. So please understand we must offer the best care and at least give you the chance to understand what you are declining. If you do decline testing or medication, understand that this limits what we can do for you. I had an owner decline testing a lump on his cat but he became very angry when I couldn’t tell him what the lump was. We offer tests for a reason. Also understand that sometimes if you decline care your only option is euthanasia. People do not like it when vets suggest euthanasia but sometimes this truly is the only other option. It isn’t right to send an animal home to die a slow and painful death simply because the owner cannot afford treatment but refuses to do the right thing and euthanize.

Also understand that wasting time on Google and pet care forums wastes precious time and money. I can cite numerous cases where an owner spent months or more researching and trying things on their own and it was something a vet could have fixed in a single visit. By the time the pet comes to us it is too late. By all means get care advice from other trustworthy sources but if an animal is ill, the internet is not your friend.

I know that there are those out there that will say they cannot put anything in savings, they cannot afford pet insurance, and they cannot even afford basic vaccines. To you I say, don’t get a pet. It just isn’t right to take a living thing into your home knowing you cannot provide it the care it needs. If you want that connection with an animal go volunteer at a shelter and walk dogs, babysit friends pets, there are lots of other ways to have animals in your life without owning one.

thoughts on the pets ep? everyone is being so negative even though it's what they asked for lol EA are doing the best they can

Thoughts on the Actual EP 🐶

I’m actually really looking forward to it! I haven’t purchased a sims pack in a while because none of them have really interested me! But I’m definitely going to be buying this one! Pets has always been one of my favourite additions to sims games, I think they add a lot gameplay wise. I’m hoping that the addition of cats and dogs will make me actually want to play the game for a change. The new world also looks amazing, very unique and detailed from what I can tell! I’m really looking forward to being able to explore it. Some of the CAS and build items also look intriguing and I can’t wait to see what the cc creators of the community do with it! I also think the vet career and being able to build your own practice will be very fun!

I know there’s been some rumblings over there not being horses, smaller animals or birds and the fact that you won’t be able to control your pets. At first I was surprised to see that horses weren’t going to included within the pack but really, it makes sense. The Sims 4 isn’t open-world so where would you even ride your horse? Around the back yard? At the same time if we look at this EP from the perspective of EA these deductions also make sense. When The Sims 4 was in development one of the things that EA wanted was for it to be less bloated and PC intensive than it’s predecesor, The Sims 3. They wanted it to be able to run on lower end computers and laptops meaning it would be available for a wider auidience, meaning more money; so it makes sense for them to cut back. All in all the lack of horses doesn’t bother me personally, but I can see why it upsets others, and not being able to control the pets doesn’t bother me either, as long as the AI is somewhat sophisticated. It also wouldn’t surprise me if pets such as birds, rodents and reptiles were added later through a stuff or game pack.

At the end of the day It’s clear to see why so many people, including myself, are so excited for this EP. It’s very reminiscent of the previous games! I really hope that it’s a success and that there aren’t too many disappointed faces on release day.

Thoughts on Negativity (it’s okay!🐱

The same thing happens every time a new pack is released or announced; the community gets all shaken up and tensions begin to rise. Let people have their opinions, if they’re excited, awesome! If they’re disappointed, that’s fine! As long as they’re not hurting anyone, it’s fine. But please don’t tell people that they can’t express their opinions and thoughts simply because you think it’s ‘negative.’

I love that so many people within this community remain so positive about The Sims 4 despite all it’s short comings, I love that people put complete faith in EA and are constantly giving them the benefit of the doubt. But at the end of the day it’s important to remember that EA is not a video game company, they’re a publically traded, profit making company. They have a legal responsibility to try to maximize profits for their stockholders and they will take any chance they can to create a profit (that includes releasing subpar dlc but keeping the high end price tag and if no one challenges them on it?? then they won’t change)

It sucks to say and I bet a lot of people don’t want to hear it but honestly, criticism and doubt are key in order for the video game industry as we know it to survive. If everyone constantly praised EA for releasing any old bit of half-assed content then the communities voices would never be heard and they’d just continue doing it. I could talk for hours about big publishers such as EA and how they’re effectively ruining the gaming industry, but I won’t, don’t worry! All I’m trying to say is it’s okay for people to be skeptical and as long as they’re not hurting anyone then their opinion is still valid!

Don’t tell me to “calm down”
Don’t say, “it isn’t that serious”
Don’t repeatedly say “just relax”
I have panic disorder, IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT.
Chemical imbalances are real, and I can’t control when my mind is thrown out of whack.
I can not control when my body goes into fight or flight mode.
What you can do:
Distract me by watching a funny movie, go on a walk with me, talk about a book you’re reading, or we can even bake some cookies.
Never tell a person with anxiety that it’s not that serious, because mentally they feel like they’re in a life threatening situation.

tonight i cant seem to stop thinking about my dog, its making it hard to fall asleep. i keep crying. i know shes happy where she is, but i realised that ive almost forgotten what she looks like. the image of her in my head is fuzzy and more cartoony like when i draw her. the real her is not clear anymore.
