Nicknamed by the Germans as “the Blond Knight” and by his enemies as “the Black Demon”, Erich “Bubi” Hartmann. Hartmann was the highest-scoring fighter pilot of all World War II fighters. He participated in 825 missions and recorded 352 victories. All his victories were recorded on the eastern front, including 15 Il-2 Sturmovik ground combat aircraft. During his combat career he was forced to land 14 times.
A rare, but compelling image of the IL-2 Sturmovik preparing for winter hibernation. The typical prey consumed during late summer can be anywhere from three to seven mechanics, depending on the duration and intensity of her summer flights.
