Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPfamilyportrait

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a photo announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

The goal this weekend is to stage and capture a portrait of your family, however you choose to define it. Some tips to get you started:

  • Look for natural, soft light. Seek out rooms that receive lots of windowlight or take your family on a little trip outside for your photo.
  • Let your family’s personalities shine! Use your setting, arrangement and even props to help your group express themselves. This is always easier when people are relaxed, so try to keep them talking and laughing as you set up your shots.
  • Play with posing. Arrange people at different heights to keep your portrait dynamic, and try to keep people in poses that feel and look natural.
  • Remember, “family” is what you make it. Whether it’s your close relatives, extended family, best friends or even your pets—who goes in your family portrait is entirely up to you.

PROJECT RULES: Please only add the #WHPfamilyportrait hashtag to photos taken over this weekend and only submit your own photographs to the project. Any image taken then tagged over the weekend is eligible to be featured right here Monday morning!

RIP Travis, German Shorthaired Pointer (12 y/o), Cove Forest, North Vancouver, BC • I met Travis & Gus of ifitwags in Vancouver a year ago. The hike we made remains one of my favorite memories of the project so far. I extend my condolences to Steph, Josh, and Gus. You gave him a great life.
