Hello!! This may be a weird question but I too am heavily interested in birds but unlike you, I cannot draw them as well. :,^( If it's not too much work (if it is just ignore this, i don't mind), do you know of any good references or sources to learn more about birds from facts to anatomy? I know this is a pretty wide range so again, I totally understand if you can't! I just thought it was worth an ask. Thank you so much!!

i don’t really have any specific reference places but here’s some things i do.

drawing birds is arguably one of the hardest animals because of their feathers. unlike fat and fur that folds to the body in a way that’s usually readable to whats underneath, feathers sort of create a ‘bubble’ around the body which makes a lot of body parts indistinguishable to where one ends and another begins. so its important to always think in terms of skeletal anatomy:

birds are dinosaurs and therefore reptiles. looking at birds this way, it’s a lot easier to see their evolution.

with that in mind, say we wanna draw this dude. owls are pretty tough because their outward appearances are so deceiving.

we’ve got a neutral pose, feathers are generously surrounding most of the body so its no sweat, we don’t really know whats going on. but we can hide it. but now we want to make him move and look cool. without really knowing whats going on we might get stuck on something like this:

its always kind of stiff and frustratingly unrealistic. mostly this is because we just don’t have enough knowledge of the skeletal structure to work with. eyeballing anatomy on our first drawing might get something like the left, more than anything people aren’t generous enough with leginess of birds:

owls do indeed have regular proportioned necks with the rest of their bodies. and their skulls are like that of any other stereotypical raptor under their mask of feathers (minus their freaky eye sockets and ears)) they can open their mouths wide just like a hawk or eagle can. it’s important to remember that birds with large wingspans do not magically lose their length when hidden. they are just conveniently folded in against their bodies.

knowing this we can try again. suddenly things seem to click in place more and have a believable-ness to them.

the rule of thumb for most birds is they have less body mass and more leg/neck than one thinks. they are lanky dinosaurs.

when we are looking at this:

we are seeing this:

with that rule, drawing birds becomes a lot less confusing. with practice you might just eyeball their feathered appearances but if not, going back to skeletal/muscle structure gives the base you need to draw convincing birds.

when it comes to specific body parts, the most challenging part for me personally have always been feet. birds with super twiggy feet are easier because one line per toe is easy to get away with. but when you get to birds with meatier feet, especially raptors, it gets difficult. my way of getting around this is to think of the actual ‘feet’ last. drawing each separate toe first gets confusing because you just find yourself trying to get them to each fit evenly together at the base of the foot. one always seems kind of skinnier or fatter than the others in my experiences, and by the time you correct it the gesture gets muddled and lost.

so i just skip that part until later, i draw talon first.

perhaps this is very unorthodox, but just like artists might square in the hands first on a human before working out the arms, i square in the talons to know where i want them before worrying how they go on exactly.

that way we have a clear gesture captured, and in my experience it is much more readable.

thats’ really all i can think of now in terms of my techniques, i hope this helps :V

Fun idea - Stop mocking aro culture for once. I keep seeing posts joking telling people to go outside in reference to aro people trying to explain squishes and other alloromantic people are mocking the idea of queerplatonic relationships and saying it’s literally just friendship and that people are idiots.

Please, just… Stop. If you don’t understand it, that’s okay! You don’t need to, but if you don’t have the experience you can’t tell people that the way they experience things is invalid or identical to some other thing.

tl;dr: mocking squishes and queerplatonic relationships isn’t funny and I really hope some of you guys will understand that and stop.

in case you don’t know.. bringing up or asking about what a trans person looked like pre-physical transition (i.e. “so what was your name when you were a [insert gender assigned at birth]?”) is extremely rude and just shouldn’t ever be done unless the two of you are very close and/or you’ve been given explicit permission to dive into that time of their life

No offense, but could we please see some art of Fareeha in a dress? I don't understand why everyone always sticks her in a suit even though she's been shown in canon wearing dresses. Can we please see her in a dress please? It's so rare among this fandom.

You is so mcfucking right anon. I tried my best, sorry if it’s not as great as you expect, it was hard to find a good reference pose and dress that would make fareeha look as strong as she is.

Heyho Maddox! So I need advice. I'm a 12 year old artist. Everyone in school refer me as a "young artist" and I love drawing. It's my passion. But, my parents aren't supporting me and tend to get mad at me everytime I want to draw. They want me to stop and be a doctor but I don't want to. I want to be a successful artist like you. Help please?

My parents didn’t really supported me being an artist till I was 18 (when I decided to do art for good). But I understand why they push us to do something else besides art. They worry and they know its an unstable/unpredictable job.

You are also really young at the moment. When I was your age, I wanted to be a Fashion Designer or a Veterinarian but ended up doing Animation because believe me when I say ART is just a general term of so many other specialisations that you have to consider.

Its just like if you wanna be a doctor, what kind of doctor you wanna be. Same applied with art, what kind of art based job you wanna pursue? I am currently studying animation but I like illustration very much. And there are a lot more like graphic design, interior design, fashion design, comic artist, and etc. So you do need to do more research and put more thought on what you really want focus on for art.

I will also be very real with you since you are considering this as your future and job. Art is something you really need to love and have 100% passion in doing because there are a lot of factors like rejections, criticisms and conflicts that may make you feel like shit.

If you are very sure if you are gonna give art your all, then go for it. Convince your parents in every way possible because thats ONE of the few conflicts that you need to over come. Its like an endless battle when it comes to the creative industry. Do what you strongly believe in.

Convince yourself before you convince others.

Your headcanon about jason doing push ups with his kid is so cute!! But ALSOO consider Percy doing pull ups with his kid either hanging around his neck like a monkey or settled in his crossed legs (refer to the video of jessie graff if you don't understand bc that shit is so freakin cute) and he/she is squealing and laughing bc they think its the coolest thing, then annabeth walks in to see what all the ruckus is about, and their kid just turns to her and squeals "Mama Look!"

NICE but what if,,,

Hmm, so Ishida draws art about TG and it's characters, usually attaching some cryptic message or a poem that makes the fandom scratch it's head. So because we have these things outisde of the manga, I wonder if it makes TG some sort cross-media experience/series? Like you don't need these clues to enjoy the series, butt they make it even more fun.

Ishida straight-up used Tsukiyama to encourage people to look into the books and references mentioned in TG. And he’s right– knowing a little more about scenes and situations from the author’s standpoint (the tarots, literature and mythology references, etc) really helps you understand what’s happening on a deeper intellectual/emotional level and thus makes it more evocative :’)

  • Queer people: So since a lot of us identify as queer, we're going to create a separate community of just people who identify as queer.
  • Queer people: Could you please not call our identity a slur? There is nothing wrong with how we identify ourselves. We're aware that some people don't feel comfortable with this label, but as we've reclaimed it and identify with it, it's hurtful to refer to our identities in such an extreme derogatory way.
  • Queer people: Telling kids about invisible identities helps them better understand themselves and others. Also, it's 100% okay to be vague, unsure, or even hyper-specific.
  • Queer people: Some of us believe that MOGAI is a better and more inclusive acronym, which is much easier to say and type than a fluctuating set of letters.
  • Queer people: I know you enjoy representation, but could these few canon bi/pan/ace/poly(am) characters please not have their various attractions be erased? Also, would you mind letting us headcanon more ambiguous characters as less visible orientations?

Hello, I don't know if I am the first request but can I ask how the Holy Trio [ Deku / Katsuki / Shouto ] deals with a short girlfriend please ?

Yes, my first request! Thank you for sending it in, I hope it’s okay! ^u^ I also included the guys’ heights for a reference!

Midoriya Izuku (166cm - 5′5″)

- He’s not short, but he’s not particularly tall, either

- so he understands your struggles!

- he’s actually happy you’re shorter than him, it makes him feel taller!

- i mean he’d love a tall girlfriend as well, but something about the fact that you’re shorter than him makes him really proud (to protect you! even if you don’t need it)

- he likes to wrap his arm around you and rest his chin on the top of your head when you’re cuddling

- when you can’t reach something, he will always do his best to get it for you!

- but that doesn’t always work, if it’s up really high

- but he’s prepared for this kind of stuff, so Midoriya has a stepping stool thingy at home to use when he can’t reach things in the higher cupboards (that’s what I have ‘cause I’m short haha)

- his mom is also short so the entire house is more or less within your reach. yes feel free to stay over at Izuku’s!!

- if there is no stool, he will try a number of other things to help you: 1) jumping 2) climbing on something else or 3) asking a taller person for help

- usually the third option works best, but he likes helping you himself most of all

Bakugo Katsuki (172cm - 5′7″)

- he’s not super tall either but he’s taller than Izuku which he’s happy about

- is actually a bit insecure about his height - he wishes he were taller

- he doesn’t let those worries show, however! or rather, they sometimes manifest in rude remarks

- because of this, he loves teasing you about your height since you’re shorter

- calls you “pipsqueak” - it’s about as affectionate a nickname as he’s willing to call you (rather, it’s the only one he doesn’t get embarrassed with). But if you dislike it (and tell him) then he won’t use it.

- no one else is allowed to tease you about your height though. Only Bakugo. Even if you don’t mind, he does!

- “what the hell her height is perfectly fine are you trying to start a fight??”

- as long as you don’t mind, some of your classmates will tease you about your height just to rile Bakugo up

- he totally uses you as an arm rest 25/7! It’s not actually more comfortable for him, but he likes touching you, and this is a way for him to be affectionate without making it obvious what a tsundere

- when you ask him to get something for you that you can’t reach, he will be surprisingly compliant (although he may complain a bit)

- he actually really likes it when you ask him for help, and small things like these are easy to do

- if you ask someone else to help you reach something then Bakugo will get really jealous and he will change his mind

- “Kacchan please get this for me?” “Ughh can’t you do it yourself?” “Oh, then Iida can you help m–” “I’LL FUCKING DO IT” “Thank you~” “grumble grumbles”

Todoroki Shouto (176cm - 5′9.5″)

- probably isn’t even aware of the extent of the height difference between you two until you start dating

- he finds it really cute how you have to stand on your toes to kiss him, and how your head rests against his chest when you two hug

- he wonders if you can hear how fast his heart is beating when you do that, because he is definitely a little flustered

- loves hugging you from behind! Arms around your waist and chin on your shoulder or head

- Todoroki feels safe this way, and less embarrassed because you can’t see how red his face is

- he will hand you whatever you can’t reach without question

- if you’re too proud to accept help directly, he’s also okay with that - he will make you an ice stool on which you can step to reach what you need!

- he did that once in a mall for you when you couldn’t reach a hat, but the workers there were not pleased with having to mop up water later so now you guys don’t do it as much

- he doesn’t mention your height much, but if someone else were to make fun of you for that he will Fight them

- or rather, intimated them, because most people aren’t willing to fight Todoroki

- but he would totally fight for you, especially if you’re sensitive about your height

Thank you again for the request! Midoriya’s is a bit shorter than the others’, hope it’s okay! I love these guys, please send in some more requests! <3 - admin Soleil

I saw you reblogged something about Jack doing/saying Cas-like things, now I can't stop imagining; Jack doing the head tilt, "I don't understand that reference", etc. that makes Dean visibly upset. Oh god I just imagined Jack staying in the bunker and just walks in wearing the trench coat "it was just laying around, I thought it looked cool", and Dean practically yelling at him to take it off, "he might need it", and now I'm not okay why must I do this to myself.

I’d say Thanks Satan but it’s kind of on me and @super-sootica ;)

anonymous asked:

i love ur blog and don't want to upset you or "call you out" but stupid IS an ableist term... casual ableism is still ableism ;; any terminology that insults the intelligence of those its directed at has historical roots in ableism. i understand it can be hard to shed language that we've naturally come into but... you can't just ignore someone's concerns just because an idea might seem erroneous to you...

An ableist slur is a word that is used in an offensive context and refers to a history of institutional or systematic oppression. Ableism invalidates somebody because they are disabled in one way or another. Stupid means lacking in common sense or intelligent. To say that the term “stupid” is an ableist slur is basically saying that disabled people are inherently lacking in common sense or intelligence. There is no history associated with the word “stupid” like there is with other ableist slurs - for example the term “retarded” is an ableist slur because at one point, this was a diagnosable mental illness. It’s a kick in the teeth to anybody who has been diagnosed with such to think these two words are even remotely comparable.

Hey TQ. So, I myself am a demigirl (although being afab still makes me worry I'm "faking" or something....), and I prefer they/them pronouns. I don't dislike being referred to with she/her, but it's not my preference, ya feel? Anyways, I told my mom, and she said that she'd call other people they/them pronouns if they wanted her to, but not me because I'm her child and I'm "an individual not a 'they'". I don't really understand that, and was wondering of you could interpret it? It's okay if not!

I think she’s interpreting they/them pronouns incorrectly. A lot of people don’t think that the plural They is a real thing. Or they associate “they” with “it”.

Don’t feel like you’re faking anything. Who knows your own mind and heart better than you? Certainly not your mom. She doesn’t live in your head. You live in your head. And when you say “This is how I feel” they don’t get to say “No you don’t”.

Anyway I hope things work out with your mom. And even though f you can’t get her to understand, know that there are lots of people out here who’ve got your back.

Alright, What i do understand is Bravery created Fear right? Bravery is the opposite of Fear, That is what i understand, But what i don't understand is why Undyne her DT spear was very efective against Fear, (Yes that reference was intentional) So if you would be so kind to explain this to us, I would apreciate it (Sorry if it is a spoiler)
