if you can call that improvement

I’d like to point out:

Discourse is necessary for a community to evolve. It’s not bad to participate in Discourse, by all means!

However, it’s very important to be mindful about the people you engage with over discourse.

Discourse is:
- engaging in discussions
- challenging your own views, and improving as a person
- allowing people to educate you
- educating people

Discourse is not:
- cruel jokes at the expanse of a marginalized group
- proudly labelling yourself as an opressor
- smear campaigns
- name-calling
- making fun of people for having emotional reactions to stress (ie, crytpying)

It’s okay if you’re an exclusionist. It’s okay if you engage with inclusionists, and talk to them about the issues we all face as a community.
But that doesn’t mean you get a free pass to mock them, harrass them, send them hate, or anything.
We can talk about things, but the moment you become hostile, it’s not discourse anymore. It’s just harrassment.

In that regard, have a lovely day.

It’s called a journey for a reason. No matter what your goals are don’t get so consumed with your final destination that it deter you on achieving those very same goals. I’ve learned to embrace the journey, it will not always be blissful but a beneficial lesson all the same. Enjoying the process.

Practicing a few different angles. Make sure if you’re a competitor you record yourself so you can make improvements as needed. Still so much work but I’m pleased and will continue to put in work

Some Quotes From my Art History Professor:
  • “Caravaggio was the BEST renaissance painter, because he knew his shit.  Literally.  Look at this painting, he’s painted shit on everything, even Saint Peter!”

*Next day* “Stop sending me memes. Please.”
  • *whilst angrily pointing at a picture of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* “The Turtles have all their names mixed up for their personalities and frankly that’s embarrassing.  The techie should be Leo, the Flirt should be Raphael, The Boring Leader Dude should be Donatello and the angry one should be Carvaggio because that asshole literally spent his life drunk, fighting people and blackmailing cardinals.  Carvaggio was the BEST.”
  • “I could have studied in Rome. I could be trying to match boxes of broken dicks to statuary.  Instead of dicks I have you assholes.”
  • “Warhol was, as you young people say, A Troll.  The art is not the Art, the Outrage is the Art.  Which is kind of a Dick Move, which we old people say too.”

Want to improve your memory? The “loci” really works, according to science.

  • So how can you improve memory? It has long been believed to depend on genetics, and research has focused on links between recall and intelligence.
  • But a new Stanford University School of Medicine study comparing fMRI brain scans of so-called “memory athletes” with normal folks suggests that great recall doesn’t need to be inherited: It can actually be learned.
  • The loci method, sometimes described as the “memory palace” method, was coined by Greek and Roman orators who had to memorize long speeches without the help of text.
  • The idea  is pretty simple. Humans are better at processing visual information than textual information, so if you want to remember a ton of words at once, pair each one with an image. Read more (3/8/17 12:12 PM).

It is no coincidence that a rattlesnake makes the same noise as a bottle of pills. I have seen my friends open their prescriptions as if it has just unhinged its jaw and is about to swallow them whole. When did growing up mean chasing drinks rather than chasing dreams because I can spend a whole day in bed and not once think about where I should be going and when I manage to drag myself out it is a question of how much therapy can you pay for sanity and is it worth it for my parents to empty their wallets so that I can spill my guts because at what point does a shell have to stop calling themselves human? I am so fucking tired of people telling me that there is room for improvement because I can scream into the hollowed out bits of myself and only hear echoes - when you tell me there is space to grow, I will show you that I am the grand canyon when you imagined me as a pothole and it would have been a lot easier to fill me with cement and walk all over me again. Somebody once told me that being bipolar was like trying to visit the opposite ends of the world at the exact same time - that the closer you got to where you want to go, the further you get from where you should have been in the first place and it is a matter of just standing still and letting the Earth do the spinning for you. But I have been trying to take steps and I swear to God if I hear that I am not moving fast enough that I can assure you my body is quicksand and it is enough that I have not completely sunk inside of myself. I do not have black eyes from the struggle, I do not have broken bones that let you know I have been fighting for my life, but I have my beating heart and the sunrise that tells me this is a new day and for now that is enough.

ABC has a new show called When We Rise and it’s about gay rights activism in the 70s and not only is the cultural and historical aspects of it amazing but im also crying because of how moving and heart breaking it is to watch. Some of the characters are based off of real social activists too! The show also covers military personal dealing with thier sexuality, drag queens, police violence, work for improving equal rights for women, and the belief that being gay is a mental illness. Can you believe that that When We Rise invented tv shows that keep us aware of past history in the gay community and activism advancement.

[At the] National Press Club Luncheon in 1986, Baldwin was asked, “How would you assess the state of race relations today, how much change have you seen since The Fire Next Time?“ After giving the audience a slightly helpless smile that almost hid his frustration, Baldwin responded with what he called a “modest proposal”:

"What I would really like to do,” he began, “I want to establish…White History Week. (Audience laughs and claps.) Because the answers to these questions is not to be found in me, but in that history that produces these questions. It’s late in the day to be talking about race relations. What are you talking about? As long as we have ‘race relations’, how can they deteriorate or improve? I am not a race and neither are you.

“No, we are talking about the life and the death of this country…I’m not joking when I talk about white history week. One of the things which most afflicts this country is that white people don’t know who they are or where they come from. And that’s why you think I’m a problem. But I am not the problem, your history is. And as long as you pretend that you don’t know your history, you are going to be a prisoner of it. And there is no question of you liberating me, because you can’t liberate yourselves. We are in this together.

"And finally: when “white people” talk about progress in relation to black people, all they are saying and all they can possibly mean by the word progress is how quickly and how thoroughly I become white. I don’t want to become white, I want to grow up. And so should you.”

Advice #2

If you own a pet that is on a medication that significantly improves your pets state of life or is actually life threatening to not be on, do not wait until you are down to one or two doses to call in a refill. Do not wait until you are out of your medication to call in a refill. DO NOT WAIT. Many medications often come from compounding pharmacies that are out of state and can take up to a week to refill. If your pet has not been seen or had blood work done within a year it is illegal to prescribe most drugs to your pet. We are not being difficult-we are simply following the law so we don’t lose our pharmacy license. YOUR POOR PLANNING DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY. So please ask questions, please plan ahead, please learn what happens if your pet is to run out of your their medication so you understand the consequences of your actions.

Sunshine Potion

I was inspired by a Bigelow tea called citrus chamomile. I looked at the back for the ingredients and saw I had most them, plus I could easily witch-ify this to make a sunshine potion! I found this is a wonderful tea to bring the happiness and sunshine into a warm and soothing beverage. Definitely improved my mood and helped me look forward to the rest of the day!

So you will need:

  • 1 lemon
  • 4 teaspoons of dried chamomile
  • 2 teaspoons of lemongrass
  • a touch of honey (optional)

Heat about 16oz of water to 212F or 100C or until simmering if you can’t measure the temperature. This will make about two cups of tea or one if you have a huge Spiderman mug like I do. You may want to halve the ingredients though if you have a smaller mug and only want one cup of tea. While the water heats, squeeze all the juice from the lemon and add that, about a quarter or eighth of the rind of the lemon, and all the other ingredients. Steep them for at least 5 minutes. You can leave it steeping for up to 10 minutes though if you have more patience than me. This has a very lemony taste, like warm lemonade if you’ve ever tried that. If you don’t like the taste of lemons so much, I suggest using only half the juice.

I Love to draw the astrology sign for the sun (a circle with a dot inside) with honey for extra happiness, warmth, and sunshine! You could instead make a sigil of your own for this purpose as well.

Sending lots of sunshine your way :) Cheers!

At some point of his life, Kageyama became the best setter of Japan and then one of the youngest and greatest of the world. He’s like 22years old and after an Olympic match, with a gold medal on his chest, an interviewer from the NHK just stops and asks him some questions.

Interviewer: Kageyama-San what can you say about this Olympic? It’s your second time in this court.
Kageyama: Yeah, it was knif.. nice.
Interviewer: What about you? We know that Oikawa-San was your senpai, did he taught you something?
Kageyama: I learned everything I know from a magnificient senpai called Sugawara. *drops the mic and leaves*
Interviewer: …

Sugawara: *at home, on the couch, passes out*
Daichi: I can’t believe he really… *holds Suga*
Oikawa: YOU LITTLE SON OF A BITCH!
Iwaizumi: Chill, you never really taught him how to improve himself.

Candle magic by candle color

White – white candles are great for healing spells, peace rituals, and gaining clarity on any situation. They are also helpful when performing a house-clearing ritual to clear out negative energy and call in positive, serene energy again. If unsure what candle to use, choose white.

Pink – pink candles are wonderful for any kind of love spell, including self-love rituals to improve your self-esteem and promote a sense of happiness and joy in your life. You can also use pink candles for healing, especially if it is someone you love deeply. They can also be used to bring a peaceful end to conflicts and feuds with others.

Red – red candles embody the passion of lust, personal empowerment, inner strength, courage, and energy. Use red candles when you want to feel stronger, more proactive, empowered, or take control over your own circumstances. They are also great to bring more passion into your relationships, or more energy to your personal goals.

Purple – dark purple candles are great for enhancing your magickal powers, like energy work and spell casting. Light purple candles (like lavender or lilac colors) are good for softer pursuits like healing spells, love spells, and self-pampering. They can also help open your third eye and increase your psychic vision.

Blue – dark blue candles help trigger your psychic awareness and encourage prophetic dreams. Light blue candles would again be used for softer magickal workings, like healing, peace and tranquility.

Yellow – yellow candles are wonderful for mental stimulation and intelligence. Use them while studying or reading about new techniques. You can also use them on days you feel a little sluggish or sleepy mentally, as they will help energize you and make you feel more alert.

Orange – orange candles are good for stimulating your energy, both physical and mental. If you need some motivation and drive to complete certain tasks, an orange candle can help. You can also use orange candles to bring more lively energy into your home.

Green – green candles promote prosperity and abundance. They are perfect for money spells or any kind of abundance spell (like attracting a new job, a new home, etc.). Because they are the color of the abundance of nature, they can also be used in fertility spells.

Grey  - grey candles are used to create an aura of invisibility around you. It is the color for reaching compromises and erasing negative feelings. Grey candles emit a neutral energy and can be used at any time of the day or year.

Brown - brown candles can range from pale fawn to rich rust or golden brown. Brown candles are used to find lost objects and all rituals involving home, hearth, family, practical matters and pets. Brown is the color of Mother Earth and therefore, brown candles are grounding, balanced and protective. They are used to bring success through hard work, financial security and creating a strong foundation. Brown is a nurturer color and is the natural focus for maternal matters, instincts, and acceptance of others with all their faults and weaknesses. Brown energy can either be male or female, depending on their use.

Silver -  silver is the color of the moon and feminine energies. It helps with divination, for awakening clairvoyant, telepathic and psychometric abilities, for astral projection and intuition. Silver candles represent dreams, visions and the desire for fulfillment beyond the material world. In times of stress and sorrow, silver candles can help remove negativity and promote inner stability.

Gold - gold candles are good candles for prosperity, good luck and financial gain. You can also use this candle for good health, physical and emotional strength, healing and attracting happiness into your life.

Copper - copper candles are good for business success, passion, money, fertility and career growth. It’s one of the abundance and prosperity colors.

Black – black candles are typically used to banish negativity, or bring an end to destructive habits. You can use them in decreasing spells (like quitting smoking or losing weight), or banishing harmful influences from your life (like destructive relationships, etc.).

How to use?

Easiest way to use candle magicks is just to choose the candle’s color based on what you need and light it up. You may have multiple candles of different color, but it’s good idea to concentrate to max 3 most important areas/solutions at time. If you try to chew too much, no solution will come out of it. Candle magicks is supposed to help you to raise your own mental power and strive you forward to your needs and dreams. You may search for longer spells and how to do them if that interests you. Remember it’s about positive help, not about negative. I personally don’t support hexes or such.

Sometimes it is fun to check out, AFTER you have bought a candle, that WHY this specific color spoke to you. I had my eyes on a bright green candle when I had money problems and I later realized it was a color on abundance - it did help me to program my mind to expect prosperity and money, and money did come in. Now I have a black candle burning, because it spoke to me so much at the store - and I wasn’t even going to buy a candle! Having it on my living room’s table at right moment makes so much sense.

Attention people who don’t have horses:

Sorry to break in with this on a very much Sherlock-only kind of blog- I promise not to make a regular thing of this, but this is something that’s happened TWICE now.

This is Beyli. He’s a two-month old foal and he’s adorable. He belongs to a friend of the family.

So adorable, in fact, that a member of the public spent a nice afternoon feeding him. You feed the ducks and that’s ok. right? It’s a nice thing to do.

They fed him turnip. He choked and gave himself a stomachache as a result.

The problem is that horses can’t really burp and horses can’t vomit. Their digestive systems are fine-tuned and when they go wrong, they go really wrong. Colic in horses is difficult to treat and in Beyli’s case, like many others, proved to be insurmountable. With pain medicine not working, after 4 hours of doing their best with no improvement, the vet called time on his suffering rather than let him go on to a very slow and painful end.

A horse needlessly suffered and died because someone fed him the wrong thing. They weren’t necessarily malicious, they were just hugely ignorant. And worse, they were hugely entitled. There were already signs asking people not to feed the animals. As I said, this has now happened TWICE to the same family, and they’re by no means alone.

PLEASE Don’t feed horses that don’t belong to you.

Horses can have disorders, diabetes, allergies and dietry requirements and you have NO IDEA if what you’re giving them is acceptable or not. Even ‘safe’ things like carrot and apple could be ‘wrong’ for this particular horse. Grass clippings? Not okay. Grain? Not okay for a horse that hasn’t been regularly eating it.

Don’t assume. i have seen walkers pull up random plants and offer them over the fence INCLUDING TOXIC, DEADLY weeds like ragwort. I’ve seen horses offered dog-biscuits and bread. I’ve heard of horses being regularly fed by strangers thinking they were being under-fed, when the horse in question was on a vet-given diet to control weight and other conditions.

Don’t feed horses that don’t belong to you even little treats and things like sugar cubes because it gives them bad manners. They start biting and harassing people. It’s bad for their teeth and too much sugar is terrible for them.

In some places if the owner has liability insurance, if you can be identified, YOU will be legally responsible for the vet’s bills. And if you’re thinking ‘well, they’d never identify me’, then that’s besides the point.

Please. You wouldn’t feed someone’s dog without asking, I hope. You definitely wouldn’t feed someone else’s child.

TL;DR: Don’t feed other people’s horses. You can make them SERIOUSLY ill. Treat animals in fields like animals at the zoo: you’re welcome to look, but don’t meddle with their care.

PLEASE DON’T FEED OTHER PEOPLE’S HORSES.

Dealing with ART BLOCK

INTRODUCTION

Path of art is a path of struggle. A path that one time can be easy and appealing, quickly leading you to its destination, but the other time it can be full of obstacles or even blocks… art blocks.

What is an art block? Various artists from around the world seem to refer to ‘art blocks’ every time they have troubles producing new works. The cause and process of typical art block will differ from one person to another, but generally speaking: everything that prevents you from creating art, despite all the opportunities, can be called an art block. Although very common, art blocks can lead to some serious issues like loss of confidence, no motivation to improve or even fear of drawing (to avoid disappointing oneself).

In this little article I’ll do my best to tell you how to deal with this biggest artistic illness!

A PSA ABOUT UNFOLLOWING:

if you ever call someone out about unfollowing (directly or via vague-blogging) your blog how about this:

don’t.

you have no idea why someone is unfollowing you, and while it may feel personal and like it has to do with something that you can improve on, if that person hasn’t come to you to talk to you about it they’re probably uncomfortable about it and you cornering them and pestering them about why they unfollowed you is NOT helping the situation.

maybe they unfollowed you because you’re posting too much ooc content, maybe you rp subjects they don’t agree with – these are all things they’re free to disagree with and NOT SEE THE CONTENT OF ON THEIR DASHBOARD IF THEY SO CHOOSE. every time someone gets an anon regarding the topics of what’s on someone’s blog, what’s the default answer? unfollow me. so if someone does just that and you track them down like “UM YOU UNFOLLOWED ME WHY???” what, uh, what do you think that’s doing/solving?

maybe they unfollowed you because you have a partner you ADORE and constantly are interacting with but they just don’t like (personal problems, maybe they don’t like seeing duplicates of their own muses, etc…) so they unfollow you to avoid seeing THAT person.

the point is you don’t get to police or even ASK people about why they made their dashboard and overall experience more comfortable for themselves, and if that means they needed to unfollow you then so be it.

try not to take everything so personally okay? unless someone’s come to you and said “i’m unfollowing you because you’re a piece of shit and your portrayal sucks byeeeee” it probably really isn’t personal AT ALL.

20. things you said that i wasn’t meant to hear

um ok so i did this one a little differently i hope its okay!!!

When the music of their new single comes to an end for what feels like the hundredth time, Namjoon collapses on the floor with a groan. “I don’t think I can do it anymore.” He looks up and Hoseok is beaming down at him.

“You’re improving so much, though! Both of you are.”

Namjoon looks over at Yoongi. He’s bent over leaning with his hands on his knees and he looks as wrecked as Namjoon feels. He doesn’t know why he had the bright idea to stay back after the others went home to get in some extra practice with their dance leader, but he knows he’s ready to call it a night.

“One more time,” Yoongi says. He has a look of determination on his face that makes Hoseok glow with pride. Namjoon can’t handle it — the way they look at each other is so much.

He heaves himself up off the floor. “I’m gonna go grab my bag from the office,” he says. “You guys can do it one more time. I’ll meet you at the car.” Hoseok nods and bounces back towards the stereo to start the song over.

Namjoon takes his time collecting his things, making sure everything is switched off in the studio and all the doors are locked before he makes his way back towards the practice room. The song has finished by this point and he can just hear Yoongi’s voice filtering out through the open door.

He sounds puffed and he’s whining a little.“I can’t help it, I’m too gangly. I just can’t do it right.”

“What, and I’m not gangly?” Hoseok scoffs. He has a point.

Yoongi laughs gruffly. “You make it look natural.” His voice softens as he speaks. “I like your gangly limbs.”

“I like your everything.”

“Yah! You’re so embarrassing.”

Namjoon can practically hear the pout in Hoseok’s voice when he replies. “You think I’m too loud?”

Yoongi sighs and Namjoon peers around the corner of the doorway. They’re sitting in the middle of the floor, Yoongi between Hoseok’s legs, leaning his head back on his shoulder. “You’re just right,” he says.

“Now who’s embarrassing?”

Yoongi just shrugs where he’s leaning against Hoseok, looking up at him with eyes so fond that Namjoon feels like he’s intruding on a moment that’s supposed to be just for the two of them. He hitches his bag up on his shoulder when he hears Yoongi ask if Hoseok wants to go home.

“Mm,” Hoseok replies. Namjoon sees him press a kiss against Yoongi’s temple and he turns away, wanting this private moment to be their’s alone. “In a minute.” He doesn’t mind waiting in the van for a bit before they all head off. “Wanna stay like this for a bit.”

Send me a ship and one of these and i’ll write a minific

anonymous asked:

Hi, I'm a beginning artist and I want to start an art blog, but every time I make something good, I can't help but think that it's not good enough. Do you have any suggestions to help...?

T h er e i s no help

No joke, I don’t ever think what i do is good enough pass 10 mins of making them? You have to know this thing called the gap between skill and mind, which is basically your mind, with all the things you learnt and envision through observation etc and your skill(say, procedural memory, muscle memory to remember how to draw certain things smoother or draw longer lines in one go etc). That will prevent you from drawing whatever you envision like… you may not be able to sing as low or high out loud but you can imagine the note sang out?

Accept that there’s a gap and accept that you have the space to improve all the time. With art as well there are infinite spaces to get better at, different branches for you to focus and to go on with. Accept that, and make your art blog an active record for your progress! There is seriously no loss.
