A Most Important Scene From Voltron Season 3

So… there’s something about this entire scene that’s had me pondering it all morning. Now, despite my writing tendencies or even which characters I would like to see together, most people who know me understand that while I write and post certain things, how I actually view the canon is separate. Like, I don’t watch Voltron for shipping and what characters do and don’t end up together is not why I’m into it. I’m very realistic about potential ships and do my best not to let shipping goggles cloud my judgement. After all, I may like to create, but I also analyze. And anyone worth their socks in literary/media analysis knows that it’s about looking at what you’re given and not what you want to see (what we want to see gets into headcanon/prediction territory, which can be backed by analysis, but they aren’t the same thing). In other words, me fangirling about a ship and me looking critically at a piece of media are two very separate things.

Therefore, this scene has left me in rather a… curious sort of hesitance? Because I find it hard to believe that I’m coming to the conclusions that I am?

First and foremost, I’m glad that Lance and Keith are working together better and trusting one another enough to go to the other about their problems. I don’t care who you ship with who, it’s good character development for them when we look back at where they started and does nothing but help the team. Keith admitted his faults to Lance when he pushed the team too hard and Lance went to Keith when he was insecure. These are not small steps for these boys and I’m glad they’re finally becoming better friends. And that’s honestly all I thought I was going to take away from this season, if I even got that far.

Until I saw this part of this scene specifically (I’ma use this screenshot a lot, lol) -

 - First of all, I want to look at how these frames with Keith are laid out. Keith is in the center of the frame the whole time, his posture is open, his expression is friendly, his smile is sincere. He is lacking in weapons or anything typically considered threatening. But what is probably most important is that we’re not just seeing Keith from Lance’s point of view, we’re seeing him through Lance’s eyes.

There is a difference. For example, in these scenes -

- we’re seeing Allura from Lance’s POV, but not through his own eyes. This is a very common type of shot when two people are having a conversation or even when multiple people are in the room. It’s like getting a third person description of what’s happening with weight on a certain character’s perspective. Sometimes it’s not even that far and it’s just convenient to look over this character’s shoulder. Versus when we get a more first person perspective when we see a character through another character’s eyes.

We also get shots like this in this same scene -

- This shot comes in concurrence with the one previously and can still be considered as coming from Lance’s perspective. So what’s the difference between this shot and the one of Keith? This shot is up close–it’s focused on Allura’s expression and what she’s saying. She’s also not completely centered, but balanced in the frame for the viewer, not Lance’s perspective. Lance is listening to her, not admiring her in any way, shape, or form. In fact, despite Lance’s general attempts at constantly flirting with Allura, he is not looking at her at all in this scene as a potential romantic interest. This entire scene is focused on what they’re saying and what that means. Not any kind of attraction between them.

Which is what struck me as so odd about the way we see Keith through Lance’s eyes in episode 6. When a character is being admired by another character, getting a shot through their eyes of their subject from the waist up, or thighs up, or knees up, etc, is a very common way of displaying that admiration in a visual sense. It’s already clear from this scene that Lance views Keith as the new leader -

- So even if Lance takes issue with some of the things Keith does, he–at the very least–begrudgingly accepts Keith’s position and is doing everything in his power to support him (as most of season 3 is evidence of). Which is why these frames -

- took me so far aback. Honestly, I was much more expecting this kind of scene to be displayed from Lance’s eyes when his and Allura’s development took place. I even went back during their critical conversation to look for it. But there isn’t anything similar. Lance clearly respects Allura, but he didn’t “waver” in looking at her so as to imply a different kind of admiration.

Another character that gets this treatment a lot? Shiro. Shiro is their leader. Shiro is their security. Shiro is oftentimes framed in this manner when the other paladins are listening to him. But usually it’s a group shot, and even if there are scenes with him and one other (maybe with Keith? I’m not going back to watch the whole series), his body language and expression are not so soft. There could probably be some shots of Shiro looking less severe when he speaks to Keith, but I never remember being this struck by a scene with Shiro that didn’t feel like anything more that admiration because he’s their leader and/or idol and/or older brother figure (this goes for Pidge as much as Keith). Just as I’ve never seen anything to blatantly support Klance before. Like, I’m not playing favorites here.

The point I’m trying to make is that, in seeing Keith through Lance’s eyes in this scene, we’re gleaning a LOT about how Lance views Keith. Not only is he listening to Keith, but we’re seeing Keith as more than just a face with words. It would have been easy to frame this scene like this -

- I mean, even this is still… But the point is, there were a lot of ways to frame this that didn’t have Lance giving Keith that “admiring” look that is oftentimes used in movies and animation. At this point, Keith is the center of Lance’s entire focus. The rest of the room is bare, Keith is what stands out most. But it’s not just his words or what he’s saying, it’s his entire person. It’s his body, his words, his posture, where he’s standing in the room.

And then we get to his expression. This is so important. They could have given Keith more attitude, they could have had him lean back on one leg and cross his arms. They could have done LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE to suggest that Lance was merely admiring Keith as a leader and friend, but they didn’t. They kept his posture open. They kept him still and centered in the frame. And they gave him the softest mother fucking smile that Keith has probably displayed in the entire goddamn show. And I don’t mean to say that he hasn’t given those small, soft smiles, because he has, but this one has teeth and is still soft. EVERYTHING about this frame is soft.

And this is HOW LANCE is seeing Keith. We have the distance from where Lance is standing in the doorway to Keith to support this, as well as how he looks following, which implies that we were seeing Keith through him -

- He’s looking over his shoulder, continuing the line of sight we the viewers were just privy to. And he reflects the same softness he has just seen in Keith.

For fucks sake, all we need is an edit of that frame of Keith with a soft white background and some sparkles and we’re all fucking set! This frame -

- was coded to be romantic. This is Lance not only admiring Keith, but seeing him in a “different” light. I mean, look at Keith’s hair for crying- UGH! Just add some wind and a few flower petals and- just- HOLY FUCK, LANCE! OGLE HIM SOME MORE WHY DON’T YOU! I don’t know if Keith is really this beautiful or not BUT YOU’RE DOING A GOOD JOB OF MAKING IT SEEM LIKE HE’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CREATURE YOU’VE EVER SEEN, LANCE!

Seriously, this is probably one of the most sincerely romantic frames we’ve gotten in the entire series. It’s also quite bittersweet. And, like, even if Lance isn’t aware that he’s looking at Keith like this, we are! We’re literally watching Lance form feelings for Keith through his own goddamn eyes. Ugh, gag me.

I am disgusted.

BTS LETTERS TO EACH OTHER:

Suga to Jin:

“ To Jinjinjara/Seok-jin!! It’s your eternal roommate, Suga. I can’t believe it’s been 7 years since we’ve known each other. Remember when I first met you? You seemed so well-behaved and kind and you seem so bright and cheerful these days, which amazes me. I believe that being together with us has brought about that change? It seems like yesterday when you were concerned and not confident on stage but when I see you on stage these days, I realize how well you sing. It’s the result of your hard effort for a long period of time. I’ve watched you for a long time. It was touching to see you try to do better at something that you weren’t good at. I felt that I had a lot to learn from you. Let’s be together for a long time. P.S: But I wish you’d act your age”.

Jin to Jungkook:

“ To Jk, Hi, JK. It’s me. I’m always appreciative of what you do. Thank you for having the same mental age as I do, when I am 26 years old. While traveling with you, I was reminded once again of how strong your punches are. I’ll do better, so please don’t hit me. I think your face got a lot darker during this trip. As the older guy, I’ll give you a facial mask when we go back to Korea. Soothe your skin with it, and also soothe yourself and stop lying on my bed. You keep lying on my bed and taking selfies. You may have gotten a tan in Hawaii, but I will throw you into a fire pit in Korea. Of course, that fire pit is my heart.  Come and be embraced in my big heart. Thank you for being the teacher and the energy of the team. Jungkook, you are nice, good looking, strong, have a  good body, have big eyes, sings and dances well. I love you”.

Jungkook to Rap Monster:

“To Namjoon, Hey. This is the youngest of the team, Jungkook. I’m not good at writing letters so I don’t know where to start, but here I go. This is something that I always think about. I often get inspired, by the team. Although I’m inspired by all the members, I’m especially inspired by you. I have a lot of things that I wanna do but I never seem to stick to them for long. You guys always joke about that. But when that pattern was repeated, I felt that I have really become that kind of person. Whenever I see you working, talking about or working on music or speaking English, I develop this sense of confidence and passion. I know that things may be tough for you too, but please continue showing those things for me. I’ll keep following you from behind. You’re really an amazing person”.

Taehyung to Jimin:

“To Jimin. Jimin, hi.  Writing you this sincere letter is making me cringe, but I’m trying to go on. Please understand. Since our trainee days, we came to Seoul without a clue.  We woke up, put on uniforms and attended the same school. We ate together, went to practice together, went to practice and got back to the dorm. Then we’d talk all night. After such 6 years, you’re now my dearest friend. Before our debut, you once got anxious about it. At that time, I had a company meeting. they asked me what I’d think if Jimin is on the team. I thought it over and said that you’re there when I’m up or down, the only one who laughed and cried with me. I said that I’d like such a good friend to debut with me as a team. It felt good to say that. And I’m glad that I was able to debut with you. All our good memories made me happy. And I’m sorry since I’m always on the receiving end. When I’m in the bathroom to cry, you still cry with me. And you come see me at dawn to laugh alongside me. You care about me and have me in your thoughts. You work hard for me and understand. You listen to my concerns and like me though I’m lacking. Let’s walk a road of happiness. Love you, buddy.

Rap Monster to Tae-Hyung:

“Taehyung, my first letter goes to you. That gives me a mix of feelings. Like the peddles we’ve seen to our heart’s content in Hawaii, it’s hard to pick out what I want to say to you. like the open sea we’ve enjoyed, it may be because we go far back with many memories we share. I remember when I first met you. When you came with your father to our dorm with big eyes, busy legs, and your puckered lips, I knew at once.That you'be a rascal. I also remember how you were anxious before our debut. Your unique character and strangeness got me puzzled at times. so I wondered what aspect of yours helped you to bear everything at times. But as time went by and my hair started to grow out, I realized that even me, who I thought was the norm, is also a strange puzzling guy. And I was drawn by your uniqueness. And I was envious at times because you easily befriend people and everyone likes you. You have shown everyone that your strangeness is actually your unique charm. You might say this makes you cringe, but since you started out as a trainee, I want to say I’m grateful to you as a friend and older member.  Thanks for not being a farmer or playing the saxophone and coming to us to complete BTS. Let’s keep up the good work. Hand in there!”.

Jhope to Suga:

“To my bro Suga from Jhope, Hey. It’s Hoseok. We’ve been together for 7  years, including our trainee days. When I was first at the dorm, I felt so awkward and shy. So I remained in the living room. Then you came over to talk and made me relax. I still can’t forget that moment. Coming from Gwangju, you were like my savior.  When I was sick or sad, you were always there for me. When I was tired and had it hard; you were there to give me strength. When I got seasick on Bon Voyage 2 and opened my eyes from sleep, the first person I saw was you. Though Jimin was also there. I didn’t say it then, but I really appreciate your help. As much as we’ve spent time together, I’m that much grateful to you. I’d like to say that with this letter at this time. Thanks for becoming a member of BTS. And thanks for being my big brother. I hope you’re always by my side. I love my bro!“.

Jimin to Jhope:

 “To Hoseok. I thought it would be easy because it’s not the first letter to you. But it’s not. I am nervous. Because we talk together a lot and I talk about my feelings to you, I guess you know well what I think or what I want to say. When I look at you, I have this thought: ‘He is really honest and faithful. He is a good and nice one”. I thought like this: “A person can be cool because he is honest and faithful”. I realized it thanks to you.  As a younger brother and a member of the same team, I learn a lot from you. You always take good care of us. you pay attention to us and work hard. I know. I want to say thank you, with all my heart. Thank you, brother! I hope you take care of yourself and stop worrying about us. My dear brother, whom I always am thankful, love you.“

It was right after the two of you had visited his parents home and Tom saw how well you had managed to fit into his family.

He watched you laughing heartily with his brothers and talking avidly with his mother and he couldn’t help the smile that grew on his face as he leant against the kitchen doorway. Only one thought was running through his mind as he stared at you; I am a goner and when you glanced at him, a smile completely lighting up your face, he couldn’t help but fall in love with you all over again.

A/N: So I originally intended for this to be the last part of Skyline, but because things needed to be explained so much, the story is getting a bit longer than I anticipated.  For that reason, there will be a Skyline pt. 6!!  I almost wish there wasn’t, because I love the evenness and finality of five parts, but what can you do.  Special thanks to Zoe and Jen for helping me brainstorm ideas, and for giving me feedback!!  Also, just a reminder, I do not have a tags list!!  I really hope you guys enjoy pt. 5!!!

{part I} {part II} {part III} {part IV}

You really had no idea how Spider-Man did it.  How could he walk around in his civilian life, bursting at the seams with the secret of his powers, and not tell anybody?  How could he stay up half the night roaming the streets of Queens and keeping them safe?  How did he balance his hero responsibilities with those of a typical teenager?  You were sure that, if the radioactive spider had bitten you, you would not have been able to handle it like Spider-Man did.

You felt the change immediately when you woke up the morning after your night with Spider-Man. After crossing all those lines that the two of you had so carefully left uncrossed for months, you had stayed up almost all night, just talking (and also kissing a little bit?  But really, could anyone blame you?  He was a super hero).  Once Spider-Man had left around four am, you had had less than two hours of sleep once your alarm rang at six.  And by the time you made it to school, you had felt like death warmed over. That day had been a groggy fog of trying to stay awake and coherent until school was over, and you were tucked away in your cozy bed.

“Again? Didn’t we already talk about this?” your mother scolded with a sigh, as you two entered your small apartment.

She had gotten a call from work at the rehab centre, that you had gotten into another fight with the kids at your school. And this became an alarming concern to her since this was the third time this month that you had fought with others.

“I didn’t mean too…” the nine-year-old you sniffled, as you shyed away from your mother’s harsh glare.

“Y/n this is the third time this month that your school has called me!” your mother exclaimed tiredly from the kitchen, getting ready to prepare dinner for the two of you.

“I’m sorry,” you whispered from your spot on the sofa, trying to withhold your tears. You knew your mother hated when you got into fights – you didn’t even like it either, but the kids always picked on you. You just wanted them to stop…

“You said you were sorry last time.”

“I know…” you mumbled in reply.

“Then why do you keep fighting?” she frustrated. “No matter what those kids say, you don’t put your hands on them.”

“But they wouldn’t stop!”

“Then tell the teacher-”

“They hit me first,” you interrupted. This caused your mother to pause in the middle of her footsteps.

“Why?” she asked in confusion.

“They just wouldn’t stop saying those horrible things, even though I begged them…”  you said as your tears started to fall.

“Come in,” you call back, propping yourself up against a few pillows. It takes some effort and your body rebels against the movement, but you grit your teeth and swallow back your groans. All the aches and pain are worth it. They prove that you’re okay. That you, unlike Antoine, are still alive.

***THE TAGLIST FOR THIS SERIES IS CLOSED**

It’s been three weeks, three freaking weeks since Dean has touched you and you are dying.

The first two weeks had been because you were healing up. He was pretty sure you had cracked ribs and your shoulder had been really sore, so he wasn’t going to chance hurting you, even the couple of times you had insisted.

Then you had gotten the bright idea to tell him either he could have fun with you, or you would take care of it yourself. Dean promptly made sure the two of you shared a room with Sam at the next motel, a smug smile on his face, daring you to go right ahead. If you weren’t so nervous about being caught, you would have called his bluff.

Five Times Tony Stark Was a Good Dad (And One Time He Wasn’t)

So, I’m obsessed with the whole idea that Peter is Tony’s unofficial son and it’s only supported by Tony’s appearance in Spider-Man Homecoming, so I came up with this series, which is in the works and also posted on my AO3 account. If you like it or have any suggestions as to where I should take this, please don’t hesitate to let me know! Also, forgive any spelling errors or mistakes, I finished this at three in the morning one night and I was too lazy to go back and fix them. Enjoy!

~~~~~~
Tony swore when he was twelve years old that he would never be a father. He remembered that moment clearly, like it had just happened a day ago, not well over thirty years ago. He was in his room, his father still screaming in a drunken rage at his mother over something Tony did, his anger and disappointment following Tony down the hallway of their New York penthouse apartment. He remembered sitting on the cold tile floor of his room, head rest against the heavy wooden door that was doing nothing to muffle his father’s harsh words.
His father was angry, Tony had gotten kicked out of his third private school on the East Coast, the letter expulsion still clutched in his father’s harsh grasp. He wasn’t sure if he had ever seen his father this furious before and Tony knew that the only thing that saved him from taking a glass full of scotch to the face was his mother’s presence in the room. Maria Stark might’ve been docile about a lot of things, but Howard taking his rage out on Tony physically, that would never fly in this house hold.
Tears of anger and embarrassment welled in Tony’s eyes and he wiped them away furiously, refusing to waste anymore energy on that man that he was forced to acknowledge as his father. No matter what Tony did, it was never enough to please Howard Stark. He made his first prototype of an arch reactor at the age of six, Howard wanted it by age five. Tony skipped three grades, Howard wanted him to skip four. Tony, despite his age, was offered a spot at MIT and if Howard had it his way? He would’ve been there a year ago. No matter how much Tony achieved, how many goals he surpassed, he always came up short in Howard’s eyes. Being the constant source of Howard’s disappointment and ire made Tony wonder if he would ever succeed in his father’s eyes, if his dad would ever clap him on the back and say “I’m proud of you, son.”
He wondered, some nights, when he’d lie awake in his too big bed in his too big room in his too big house, if his father had ever wanted children, had wanted Tony.
The thought crossed his mid countless of times, until it latched onto his cerebral cortex and sat there, like the worst form of cancer that had no possible cure.
And while Tony sat there, head resting tiredly against the warm wood, Howard’s voice still echoing down the long hallway, that cancer spread until it proved fatal.
He never wanted his children to feel like this.
Unwanted
Worthless
A complete and utter failure.
Tony was self-aware enough to know that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, that human nature was a pattern and patterns were destined to repeat themselves, without fail. Anger and rage and disappointment were the only form of affection Tony was used to getting to his father. His father was a cold man, always keeping Tony at a distance that no matter how hard he tried, Tony could never quite breach.
And Tony knew, no matter how hard he tried, he would always end up like his father.
~~~~~~~

Peter Parker came into his life unexpectedly and despite popular opinion, unplanned. He’d been keep tabs on the Spider-Kid since the kid popped up on his radar a few months ago, clad in that god awful homemade leotard/hoodie contraption and flying around Queens on his webs with all the grace of a child learning to walk for the first time. Tony never planned to actually meet the kid behind the mask or reaching out to the flying kid in his homemade costume, but when the Avengers disbanded and the only family Tony had ever known was decreasing in numbers, he needed back up.

Looking back, his intentions were purely selfish and it shamed him to admit, when he dropped the kid back off in his sketchy neighborhood in Queens with the new suit he’d made him, he never had any intention of keeping in contact with the kid.

To absolve himself from the guilt, he appointed Happy as his chaperone and threw himself into creating new legs for Rhodey, another way to attempting to soothe ache of guilt that had settled along with the shrapnel, in his battered heart.

He underestimated Peter, who was pushy and persistent and finally, after three months, Happy threw his phone at Tony and told him to call the kid. That night, Tony, with a glass of scotch in hand, filtered through the hundreds of voicemails Peter had left Happy—anecdotes of his daily patrols, everything from helping old ladies cross the street, stopping bike thieves to getting cats out of trees. Each story was told with excruciating detail, in that excited ramble the kid got whenever he was particularly enthused about something and warmth settled around Tony’s heart, fond amusement making his lips curl into his first genuine smile in months.

It took Tony another week to reach out to the kid, but he did and that’s how he found himself, in one of his more flashier cars, sitting outside of Peter’s school. He ignored the gawking, the stunned stares and the whispers of the students filtering out of the school, his eyes scanning the crowd before they landed on a familiar head of messy hair.

Peter was talking excitedly to the chubby, dark haired Asian kid by his side, who was nodding along to everything Peter said with a look of pure wonder on his face and Tony wondered briefly if his little friend knew that his BFF moonlighted as a super-hero in spandex at night.

Another kid appeared by Peter’s side and Tony watched as Peter visibly tensed and tried to skirt around the kid, but the kid threw a hand out and stopped Peter in his tracks.

The cocky grin that appeared on the kid’s face was all too familiar to Tony and before he could even second guess himself, he was out of his car and walking towards the three boys, ignoring the murmurs coming from the crowd.

“—when are you gonna stop lying about your internship with Tony Stark, Penis Parker? There’s no way someone like Tony Stark would ever take on a charity case like you—“

Peter looked up when he heard the murmuring crowd fall to a hush and his gaze landed on Tony. The amount of surprise in the kid’s features made Tony’s gut clench that in no way had to do with the greasy cheeseburger he ate on the way over here.

“M-Mr. Stark, what, uh, what are you doing here?” Peter stammered, flicking his gaze back to would be bully in front of him.

“Yeah, Parker, like I’m gonna fall for that—

“Is there a problem here, gentlemen?” Tony interrupted, smirking in satisfaction when the kid that was giving Peter a hard time, froze, turning his disbelieving eyes on to Tony.

“Y-You-You’re Tony Stark.” He said faintly, his voice shaking.

Tony smirked, “Astute observation and you are?”

The kid gulped, his adams apple bobbing harshly, “F-Flash Thompson.”

“Makes sense,” Tony said with a nod of his head, looking the kid up and down, “I’d bully someone too, if my parents named me after the lamest superhero to ever grace the pages of a comic book, overcompensation and all that,” Tony said thoughtfully, “especially with your perceived fixation on the male genitalia. Tell me, did it take you a while to come up with something that juvenile or did you have someone equally as childish think it up for you? Because I would think someone with—and I’m assuming here, so correct me if my deductive reasoning skills are off—a high level of intelligence would come up with something a little bit more creative than ‘Penis Parker’.”

By the time Tony was done, the crowd around him was snickering and the kid in front of him looked like he wanted nothing more than the ground to open up and swallow him whole, if such things were possible.

Tony smiled, but there was nothing nice about, “Now, if I ever catch wind of you so much as looking in Peter’s direction again and trust me, kid, I’ve got my ways, I have no issue siccing my AI on all your school records and wreaking havoc on your future plans for any Ivy League schools, you reading me kid?”

Flash nodded so vigorously he resembled a bobble head, “Y-Yes, Sir.”

Tony smiled, this one much more kind than the last, “Good, I’m glad we could reach an understanding, now running along so I can talk to my intern here without your sorry excuse for cologne clouding my senses, seriously kid less is more.”

Flash tucked his proverbial tail between his legs and pushed through the crowd of people that were now openly laughing, losing interest in Tony in favor of chasing after Flash to mock him.

Tony shouldn’t feel as proud as he did, but he knew what it was like to be bullied and he’d be damned if his kid—ahem, someone like Peter had to deal with someone as childish as Flash Thompson every day and it was within his power to do something about it. Like kid didn’t already have enough to deal with as it was.

He turned back to see a dumbfounded Peter and his equally as flabbergasted friend.

“That was—” Peter began, but seemed to be at a loss for words, shaking his head in disbelief.

His friend, however, didn’t seem to have that particular problem.

“—AWESOME!” His friend said excitedly, “oh man did you see Flash’s face? Dude, this is greatest thing to ever happen to me. Tony Stark just verbally assaulted Flash, Jesus dude, how is this your life? If you ever want to trade, even if it’s just for a day, I’m totally down—“

Ned.” Peter muttered, elbowing him roughly, giving a rough jerk of his head in Tony’s direction. He flicked his apologetic gaze over to Tony, who simply rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t deny the amused smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Ned followed his gaze and flushed, “Right, sorry.”

Peter closed his eyes for a moment and Tony could see the kid physically trying to fight off his embarrassment and couldn’t help but chuckle.

Peter’s eyes snapped open at the sound and the surprise and confusion from earlier was back, “Mr. Stark, what are you doing here? At my school? Is everything okay? Is there a—“ Peter glanced around in a sad attempt at nonchalance and lowered his voice to an equally as sad attempt at a whisper, “—mission?” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows in a manner that was making Tony wonder if the kid had a weird twitch he’d never noticed before.

Tony glanced over at Ned quickly, going back to his original curiosity of how much the kid actually knew about his arachnid friend here, but Ned seemed to catch on to Tony’s unasked question.

“Don’t worry Mr. Stark, sir, I’m Peter’s Guy In The Chair.” Ned answered helpfully, giving him a bright smile.

Tony glanced back over at Peter with a raised eyebrow, who simply muttered “dude” in an exasperated tone, shaking his head before returning his attention to Tony, “Ned knows.”

“Oh, well, in that case, no, there is no…mission,” Tony said in a mock whisper, making Peter flush, “I’m working on a new Iron Man suit and I need to pick your brain for some ideas on upgrades, figured I’d swing by and pick you up from school today.”

Peter’s eyes widened and Ned seemed torn between fainting or peeing himself from excitement.

“You get to touch the Iron Man suit?!” He squeaked, turning his wide-eyed gaze over to Peter, who only gave Ned a look, who bit his lip sheepishly, but looked like he was ready to explode from the level of his enthusiasm.

Peter ignored him, “I was supposed to help Ned finish the lego Death Star today, we were supposed to do it yesterday, but I uh, kinda got caught up on patrol.” Peter gave Tony a guilty shrug of his shoulders.

“So let me get this straight,” Tony said slowly, “you’re turning down quality time in my personal lab to build a lego Death Star with Ned over here?”

Peter’s eyes had lit up at the mentions of Tony’s lab, but with quick glance at a wide eyed Ned, who seemed to be stuck on the fact that Tony Stark said his name, his excitement dimmed. But Peter was loyal, almost to a fault, and nodded resolutely.

Tony, seemingly at a loss for words, just stood there, shellshocked at being told no, by a fifteen year old kid at that. A small part of Tony, the one that was actually looking forward to hanging out with the kid, was slightly hurt at the rejection.

Ned, who’d been watching the entire scene with wide eyes, was more observant than he looked and seemed to sense Peter’s indecision and Tony’s disappointment, because he gave his friend a bright smile, “Dude, we can finish the Death Star anytime and besides, my mom wanted me home tonight to help her with something, so I’m booked, raincheck?” He offered.

Peter glanced at Ned then at Tony and then back to Ned, “Um, sure Ned, no problem.”

Ned gave him a smile and then turning his attention back to Tony, his friendly smiled turned a bit more to the manic grin that most people wore in Tony’s presence, “It was really nice to meet you Mr. Stark.”

He offered Peter a fist bump, who returned it, before he started walking down the side walk, towards, what Tony assumed, was home.

Turning his attention back to the kid, he gave him a smile, “Good good, now we should probably be on our way if we want to avoid traffic. Now, as far as suit upgrades go, I was thinking of up-ing the suit’s repulsers a bit—hey, kid, you coming?” Tony asked from his position on the driver’s side, raising an eyebrow at Peter, who was still standing on the side walk. Tony followed his gaze and saw Ned still making his way down the sidewalk and chancing a glance back at Peter, who was still watching him with big, guilty eyes, he sighed.

The things I do for you, kid, Tony thought to himself.

“Hey, Ned,” Tony shouted, making the kid pause and turn around, looking to Peter, who was watching Tony with the beginnings of a smile, then back to Tony curiously, “would you like to join us? There’s plenty of room in the lab for three people.”

Even from a few yards away, Tony could see the kid’s eyes widen in surprise before he hustled his way back to an equally excited Peter, who shot him a grateful look.

“Thank you, Mr. Stark.” He said quietly, giving him a bright smile.

And Tony couldn’t help but smile back, “You’re welcome, kiddo,” eyeing a panting Ned warily, “make sure he doesn’t do anything…weird, okay? I don’t mind opening my lab to him but there was something in his eyes when I was talking about the Iron Man suit that made me decidedly uncomfortable.”

Peter gave a breathy laugh, “Don’t worry, Mr. Stark, Ned’s cool.”

Ned, who had come to a slightly sweaty stop in from them, looked up at Tony with wide eyes, “Can I try on the Iron Man helmet?”

“Dude.”

~~~~~~~~~
Tony spent the majority of their time in lab just watching Peter and Ned run around like kids in a candy store—picking things up, playing with the robots—DUM-E taking a special liking to Peter, who, Tony was pleased to see, treated him like a human, thanking him when he brought them water from the stocked fridge and smiling when DUM-E beeped happily in return—and played with all the gadgets laying around.
Tony, albeit wearily, let them try on one of the Iron Man helmets from one of his earlier models and explained to them how the suit worked, both of them hanging on to his every word. He showed them the blue prints for his newest model, listening to their suggestions and even writing a few them down to look into later.
Ned, Tony found out, was rather intelligent with computers. He gave him one of his old security systems and watched with genuine interest as the kid hacked into the the files with ease and recoded the entire system in a matter of minutes.
When Tony looked it over, he let out a grunt of an approval, “Nice work, kid.”
Ned all but fainted at Tony’s praise.
The hours slipped by and F.R.I.D.A.Y. being the helpful AI that she is, had ordered pizzas without Tony even having to ask and had them sent to the kitchen, alerting them when they had arrived. Tony led them up to the kitchen, watching with thinly veiled amusement as they both took in every new surrounding with the same amount of interest they had shown in the lab.
Tony continued to observe them as they tore into the pizza like they hadn’t eaten in days and taking a quick glance at the clock, he realized with a flash of guilt, that they had been down in the lab for over four hours and the last time they had probably eaten something would’ve been well over seven or eight hours ago.
It was nice, Tony deiced, listening to their mindless chatter and what was especially nice, was seeing how at ease Peter was with his friend, looking like a true fifteen year old with his friend over to his house on a school night, like he didn’t have super powers, like he didn’t dress up in tight spandex and web his way through Queens and fight crime at night while trying to balance a normal life.
The thought nagged at Tony for the rest of dinner and as he rode silently with them in the backseat while Happy drove them all to Ned’s apartment first, who still looked like he couldn’t believe today was real, thanking Tony breathlessly for the best day of his life and telling Peter he’d see him tomorrow at school.
Peter watched his friend with a small, amused smile and when they got to Peter’s apartment building, Tony glanced over at the kid, the smile still had yet to leave his face.
“Alright kid, this is your stop,” Tony said, making a move to undo his seatbelt, but the kid’s hesitant voice made him pause.
“Mr. Stark?” Peter said softly, clearing his throat, “I uh, just wanted to thank you, you know for well, everything,” the kid breathed, smiling up at him so sincerely that it made Tony’s chest ache in the best sort of way, “today was amazing and I really appreciate you inviting Ned along with us, he really looks up to you, you know? And I haven’t really been able to spend much time with him since, y’know, the whole Spider-Man thing.”
The kid paused before continuing on in a softer voice, “And about Flash, I really, really don’t know how to thank you for that,” he rubbed the back of his neck, clearly embarrassed, “it’s kind of funny, in a way, I’m a sort of super-hero and I can’t even stand up to a bully—“
Tony’s heart squeezed painfully in his chest at the kid’s self-deprecation, “Look, kid, I’m no stranger to bullies,” he began, sighing heavily, “I had my fair share of them when I was in school and even in college. I learned that while you may no be able to physically fight someone, you can always fight them with words and sometimes, words can hurt more than your fists. All I did was give that Flash kid a taste of his own medicine and hopefully, got him off your case.”
Peter was silent for a moment, considering Tony’s words before giving him another appreciative smile, “I don’t think Flash will be messing with me anytime soon, but still, thank you,” Peter’s smile turned shy, “you’re the first adult, other than May, to stand up for me and I really appreciate it, so thank you, Mr. Stark.”
“Call me Tony,” Tony offered after a beat of silence, unsure of how to respond to such a statement.
Whatever he was trying to say, the kid got, because he smiled brightly and Tony, suddenly feeling awkward at the unusual sentimental moment, busied himself with unbuckling his seatbelt, ignoring the warmth in his chest.
He reached around the kid to open the door for him and Peter, rather than getting out, just like last time, he reached up and wrapped his arms around Tony, thinking he was hugging him
“This um, wasn’t a hug,” Tony began awkwardly, “I’m just getting the door for you.”
However, before the kid could pull away, Tony wrapped his arms around him and gave him a quick, but firm squeeze.
Peter gave him another smile before wishing Tony and Happy a goodnight,  getting out of the car and making his way up towards his apartment. Tony debated on his next move, mulling it over quickly and before the kid could get too far, he found himself making a snap decision and rolling down he window.
“Hey, Underoos,” Tony started, slightly unsure when the kid turned around and looked at Tony with hopeful eyes.
“Same time, same place tomorrow?” He said after a moment of silence, the kid’s answering grin melting away any self doubt before it could begin.
“Sure Mr.Stark—Tony,” Peter stuttered excitedly, “sounds great!”
Tony watched the kid go with a satisfied smiled, so caught up in his happy little pseudo-family moment that he almost didn’t hear his phone ring.
Not even bothering to glance at the caller I.D., he answered it with a smooth, “Stark.”
“Tony?! What the hell we’re you thinking going to a school and threatening a minor, A MINOR—“
Shit.
Warm
Time for some more whump! It’s Day Two- Hypothermia!
Lance and Keith (read: klance) go to an ice planet.
why do i only ever hurt lance
“Figures,” Lance grumbled. “Stereotypical ice planet. Why couldn’t the rebels have lived on, I don’t know, a tropical island? The entire known universe and we can’t stumble across some beach residents in need of rescue?”
“Lance,” Shiro’s disapproving voice sounded over the coms. “The two of them gave me their only ship. Which means we’re helping them. They’re part of a freedom fighter organization, maybe they can help us.”
“Yeah, okay, but why do I have to be the one that gets sent down here? I’m from Cuba! This is way, way below comfortable temperatures for me.”
“Quit whining,” Keith snapped, glaring at Lance over his shoulder. “Our armor’s designed to keep us warm, and this is below comfortable for anyone. And pick up the pace.”
Lance rolled his eyes, but jogged to catch up to him.
“Sorry, Lance, but the red lion is the best at withstanding extreme temperatures. And it’s smaller, and faster than the other lions, so it can better navigate the terrain,” Shiro explained.
“Wish I had help navigating the terrain now,” Lance muttered under his breath. The two of them were currently struggling through over a foot of snow. “And that doesn’t explain why I had to bring Keith with me.”
“Because going on solo missions to unknown locations is how you get killed,” Pidge pointed out. “Star Wars? Hoth? Luke almost getting annihilated by the abominable snowman? Any of that ring a bell?”
“Quiznaking ice planets. Why are we out of the lion anyway, Shiro? Red’s warm. Do you want us to freeze to death and then have to hide inside the body of a space camel?” Lance’s voice was dripping with sarcasm.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Star Wars, Keith. Remind me to marathon it with you when we get back to Earth. My niece loves those movies, and she’ll eat all the popcorn, but it’s worth it. Trust me.”
“Would you two take this mission seriously?” Shiro asked. Lance could practically see him rubbing his temples exhaustedly. “I know it’s not exactly high-stakes adventure, but these guys saved my life. You’re not going to go prancing around the planet in your lion and accidentally destroy their hideout.”
Prancing? Shiro, I don’t prance, I'm—”
“Lance, look,” Keith interrupted him and pointed out towards a large stretch of ice before them. It would’ve been a lake, had the planet not had such low temperatures. “Pidge, is that the direction we need to go?”
“Yep,” she told them. “The hideout’s not far from the opposite side.”
Keith sighed. “We’ll have to go around.”
“Woah, what? Keith, that lake is huge! It’d be so much easier to walk straight across,” Lance protested. “I’m not about to freeze to death while we take the scenic route.”
“In case you hadn’t noticed, that’s ice, dumbass. If it can’t support our weight and breaks then we really could freeze to death! That water’s gotta be a lot worse than this.”
“I’m not an idiot, Keith, I know that. Pidge, if I send you a scan can you see if it’ll support us?” Lance asked. Pidge made a noise of affirmation, and Lance used his armor’s scanner to send an analysis of the ice to her.
“It looks pretty thick,” she mused. “I wouldn’t jump up and down or start hacking at it with your bayards if I were you, but you’ll be able to walk across.”
See?” Lance smirked at him. “What’d I tell you? It’s fine.”
“Shouldn’t we, I don’t know, check the lake? What if there’s a… space octopus in there, or something? Or a shark? I mean, they wouldn’t normally live in lakes, but this isn’t Earth so who knows? Are space alligators a thing?” Hunk spoke so fast it was almost difficult to understand.
“Hunk, you’re rambling,” Lance observed with a fond smile. “But don’t worry. The top of the lake is frozen, so they wouldn’t be able to breathe, right? Let alone get to us. If it makes you feel better, I’ll do a full scan of the lake.”
“Nope. No animals down there,” Pidge confirmed a few moments later. “Now would you two hurry up and cross?”
“I still have a really bad feeling about this,” Keith mumbled.
Lance turned towards him with a grin. “We are so watching Star Wars together. In fact, we should see if they have it at the space mall. But sorry, Keith, if you want to go the long way, be my guest. I’m not going to wait any longer than I have to.”
“He really is the true pilot of Red,” Pidge sounded as if she was trying to repress a laugh. “Impatient as all hell.”
Hey!” Keith and Lance exclaimed at the same time.
Pidge snorted. “Just get going already.”
Lance wasted no time in starting out across the lake. He was several paces ahead of Keith, who still hesitated to step out onto it. As he was about to continue forward, Keith stopped in his tracks. He could swear he saw something dark moving below the ice, but Pidge had scanned the lake for life, hadn’t she? It must just be his imagination. He started forward again, but just then the ground shook, and the ice in front of Lance exploded.
He let out a strangled yelp, stumbling away from whatever had just burst out of the lake. Keith could hear the frantic voices of the others in his ears, but it all descended into white noise as he saw the vine that had broken through the ice wrap around Lance’s legs.
He rushed forward, but it was already too late. Keith watched as Lance was dragged into the hole made by the creature, and plunged into the freezing lake.
The water was murky, and dark. Lance could barely see, all he knew was that something was dragging him further and further down into the depths. He didn’t have time to activate his helmet properly before water was rushing into his lungs.
He felt the grip of whatever held him tightening on his legs, and though he tried to kick he couldn’t break free.
Lance forced himself not to panic. Panicking wouldn’t help him. So he collected his thoughts, summoned his bayard, and pointed it down. He still couldn’t see anything, but with luck he’d hit the monster, not himself. He moved his finger to the trigger, aimed for what he hoped wasn’t his leg, and fired.
Judging by the shriek of pain and how the hold on him loosened, Lance guessed the laser met its mark. He kicked upwards immediately, swimming quickly to the surface. However, with limited eyesight and dwindling oxygen, his hands met nothing but ice. Panic started to overtake him again as he desperately scrambled to find the hole which he’d fallen into.
Lance was just starting to give up hope completely when suddenly a hand snagged around his wrist and yanked him to the side, and up to the surface.
Lance sucked in a breath, coughing the water out of his lungs as he collapsed onto the ice. His vision was foggy around the edges, but he could see well enough to notice Keith kneeling over him, breathing heavily.
“Are you okay?” he demanded, hands hovering over Lance’s form. “Are you hurt?”
“What—” Lance coughed again. “What was that… that thing?”
“I… I didn’t scan for plants,” Pidge told him apologetically. “In my defense, I had no idea there would be some crazy strong… Venus flytrap-ish monster living here.”
Now will you listen to me when I tell you something’s a bad idea?” Keith asked, sounding way to relieved to actually come off as angry.
Lance gave him a shaky smile. “I c-could ask you the… the same, S-samurai.”. Keith tensed immediately.
“Why’s he talking like that?” he asked. “He’s… breathing weird, too. And shivering. Pidge, what—”
“Keith. Scan. Now.” Pidge’s voice was suddenly alert, and when Keith complied, she cursed. “Hypothermia. I should’ve guessed. Keith, get him back to the castle. He should be fine, but he needs a pod. Allura and I will come back to the planet in Blue later.”
Keith nodded, picking Lance up in his arms as if he weighed nothing at all, before rushing towards Red. “Hang on, Lance. You’re gonna be fine.”
“You.. you were r-right,” Lance admitted around chattering teeth. “That was a… very b-bad idea.” His eyes started to slide shut.
“Wh— no, Lance, you have to stay awake. C'mon, keep your eyes open. We’re almost there.”
“’M sorry, Keith, b-but it’s… it’s freezing, and you’re r-r-really w-warm,” Lance mumbled, closing his eyes and leaning his head on Keith’s shoulder. “I think… I’ll just take a little n-nap.”
“Lance, no, you’ve got to—” Keith started insistently, but Lance had already passed out in his arms.
Lance fell unceremoniously out of the healing pod, but was luckily caught before he collapsed onto the floor. He looked up to meet Keith’s dark eyes, and promptly groaned. “So, I guess we had another bonding moment.”
Keith bristled. “That’s all you have to say? Not ‘thank you for saving my life?’ After your stupid decision-making skills got you put in a pod for the… how many times has it been now?”
Lance ignored him. “Where are the others?”
“None of them wanted to stay overnight, because, again, you’ve been in this pod way too many times,” Keith told him, unsure if he should point out that Lance had made no move to step back, so Keith was still supporting the entirety of his weight.
“And yet you stayed,” Lance grinned. “Guess I should probably start listening to you, huh?”
“Guess so.”
Lance’s smile turned quickly into a smirk. “Well, that’s too bad, since we both know that’s never going to happen.”
Keith scowled, prepared to drop Lance onto the floor. He would have to, if Lance hadn’t leaned forward at that exact moment and kissed him.
It didn’t last long, but Keith was blushing furiously, anyway. It was nice to see that Lance looked a little flustered, too, though.
“Thanks,” Lance said softly. “For saving my life.”
“Um,” Keith started, brain still trying to understand what was going on. “Did you just— you and I— is this— what?”
Lance laughed, finally stepping back from Keith and turning to walk out the door. “I’m going to go get some food goo, if you’d care to join me.”
Keith watched him go, and stammered out a few more incoherent sentences before rushing after him.
April, 1938
London, England
The store sat empty, as it did most days of the week. Dust regularly collected on the cash register sitting in front of you and its brass keys grew stiff with the lack of activity. With your elbows propped up on the counter, you leaned your weight forward and held your chin in the hand that wasn’t busy drumming across the countertop. They tapped in time with the clock ticking on the wall, a constant reminder that you were stuck here on such a lovely day outside.
It was unusually warm for this time of year. Normally covered in a dreary layer of gray, the sidewalks and storefronts shone in the rare-April sunshine, people out and about, taking advantage of the weather. You were antsy as you watched out the window, hoping that someone, anyone, would walk through the door and give you something to talk about.
Flirt With Me
Pairing: Peter Parker X Reader
Requested: No
A/N: Okay, but doesn’t love Peter? This is my first Marvel fanfic and I am sure that there is more to come! Thanks so much for waiting and, as always, I hope you enjoy!
*****
You felt a rush of relief as the bell rang, fleeing from the classroom in a hurry, hoping to lose Flash Thompson, who was hot on your heels, in the crowd.
You run through the halls of the school, desperately trying to find your best friend Peter Parker. You spot the colour of his favourite sweatshirt out of the corner of your eye and skid to a halt in front of the glass library doors. You peered inside and sure enough, Peter was sitting alone at one of the desks, studying for an upcoming test.
You look back and forth feeling frantic, your hair whipping wildly as you checked to see if Flash was near. He was nowhere in sight. You were safe, for the time being.
You hurriedly push open the heavy doors of the library, the hinges squeaking rather loudly. The librarian looked up from her desk and glared at you. You smiled apologetically before hurrying over to Peter and slipping into the seat next to him.
“Oh, hi (Y/N)-”
“Peter.” you gasp, trying to catch your breath from all the running. He tilts his head as he looks at you, confused.
“Are you alright? Why are you panting? Oh no, do we have to run a mile today in PE? Dang it.”
“No no, it’s not that. It’s Thompson,” you answer, shaking your head. Peter’s eyes flare at the mention of the name but the action remains unnoticed by you.
 “What did the idiot do this time?” he asks, sighing and balling his hands into tight fists.
“He keeps asking me out even though I’ve told him that I wasn’t interested countless times,” you say in frustration, pinching the bridge of your nose. “But he won’t leave me alone. He sat next to me in History for the past hour and he just wouldn’t stop hitting on me. I wish I could just take his head and-”
You made a violent gesture in mid air and Peter smiled at your behaviour.
“Ugh, aren’t boys just revolting.” he remarks, making you smile.
“Please, tell me about it.” You shake your head in disgust. “And I’m pretty sure he’s following me now. He’ll probably find me soon…oh no.”
Your voice trails off and both you and Peter spot Flash approaching the library, swaggering through that halls as if he owned the place. Peter glared at him as he got closer. In his opinion, that kid was way worse than any bank robber he had ever webbed up.
You grabbed his shoulder and he looked down at your hand, startled by your sudden action.
“Arg, he’s coming! I need to hide!” you yelp, looking around wildly for a place to hide but to no avail. You were out in plain sight. You flinched as you heard the doors of the library open and looked at Peter for help. And then, an incredibly stupid idea pops into your head.
“Flirt with me.” you whisper, instantly regretting everything.
Saying that he looked shocked would have been the understatement of the century.
“Er - what?” he exclaimed, his face turning a bright shade of pink as Flash entered rather obnoxiously loudly into the library. He was apologizing to the cranky librarian and you quickly explained your oh so stupid plan to Peter.
“If he sees I’m taken, he won’t ever try to make a move again.” you explain quickly, feeling yourself heat up and Peter looks at you skeptically, his blush fading.
“(Y/N), are you sure about this? I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.”
Flash starts to walk towards your table and your grip on Peter’s arm tightens.
“Please.”
He nods slightly and clears his throat, scooting himself closer to you.
“So, uh, do you come here often?” he asks in a low voice and you stare at him before bursting out into laughter.
“Is that honestly the best thing you’ve got?” you ask through giggles. “Gee, you’re just as awkward as I am.”
He rolls his eyes playfully. “Hey, at least I’ve got you laughing now. It’s makes everything more convincing.”
But he was right. Flash was eyeing the two of you, looking agitated and envious.
“And no, this is my best line… You are absolutely, astoundingly beautiful and that’s the least interesting thing about you.” he whispers, his hand cupping your chin and tilting your head up, forcing you to look him in the eyes. His face is mere centimeters from yours and you could feel his hot breath fanning across your face.
Your mind goes totally blank as you stare into his eyes, trying to clear your throat to say something witty back at him but you couldn’t think. Instead, to your horror, you feel your face flush as you continued to get lost in his eyes.
“Perfect! I’ve got you blushing now too!” Peter observes, looking quite satisfied with himself. This simply deepened your blush and he chuckled. It was definitely odd, seeing this confident side of Peter, but you had to say that you were enjoying it, maybe even a little too much.
“You’re a great actress, (Y/N).” he whispers with a grin and you nod unconsciously.
“Er, yeah. Acting…”
“How’s our victim?” he whispers into your ear, drawing you even closer to him, if possible.
“Uh, h-he’s looking absolutely furious.” you stutter, finally managing to get a full sentence out. You mentally scold yourself, you weren’t going to let him know that he was making you melt and feel absolutely flustered. “He should be gone soon.”
“Good, let’s keep at it then.” he murmurs, taking your hand gently and looking at you through his lashes. Your heart beat quickened as Peter placed his lips on your knuckles, kissing them lightly.
“If I had a star for every time you brightened my day, I’d be holding a galaxy.” he said lazily against the back of your hand and tried your best to refrain yourself from shaking at his touch. Your mind couldn’t help but wander to the thought of what his soft lips would feel like against your own…
“That’s so cliché.” you say feeling awfully breathless and he smiles once again before lifting his head back up to meet your eyes.
“It is indeed. But it’s also true.” he replied, without breaking his character. You knew that if you had been standing, your legs would’ve failed you. “I was always told that nobody was perfect, but you’re clearly the exception. However, there is one thing I want to change about you.”
“W-what?” you question, stuttering again.
“Your last name.”
You desperately tried to think of a clever comeback but you couldn’t, it was as if your brain had been turned to mush. Once again you were at a loss of words, something you prided yourself of not happening. Your best friend gave you a reassuring smile before gesturing towards where Flash was standing, asking you to check if he was still there. The other boy was nowhere in sight. Thank the heavens, he was gone. But you also felt a pang of disappointment when you realized that Peter’s charade would soon come to an end…
“He’s gone. Flash is gone.” you whisper incoherently, and Peter’s face lights up with a huge grin.
“Yes! You’re plan worked (Y/N)!” Peter cheered happily, dropping the low, seductive voice he had used merely seconds ago.
“Are you alright?” he inquired when you don’t cheer with him.
“Y-yeah. I’m great.”
To your dismay, he scooted away from you and began to pack up his things before standing up.
“I feel like I allured you with my awkwardness rather than flirting with you.” Peter said, chuckling as he swung his backpack on effortlessly. “On his behalf, Flash was a complete idiot to believe any of that, I do hope I was convincing enough.”
He frowns slightly and you nod your head furiously.
“Uh, yeah! You were great! Could’ve fooled me!” you squeaked, trying yourself to sound as convincing as possible. Peter didn’t seem to notice how significantly higher your voice had become.
“He shouldn’t be bothering you anymore.” he says with a grin.
“Yeah, hopefully. Thank you, Peter.”
“No problem! And if he does bug you again, just let me know. I’ll be happy to help again. We make a pretty good team of actors, if I do say myself.”
“Mhmm. Thanks again.”
“Anything for you (Y/N). Well, I better get going. The ‘Stark internship’, y'know?” he says with a wink before running off to become his alter web shooting ego.
You remained in the library, still glued to your seat. Your heart was still racing at a feverish pace. You place your hand on your cheek and to your surprise, find yourself still blushing, your cheek burning like fire.
Was Peter Parker just that good at flirting or had you fallen for your best friend?
Initially, Peter had been against this idea of yours because he really didn’t want to keep you from your sleep but after a while, he settles with it and in fact, coming home to your face is something he looks forward to, most of the time.
You aren’t quite sure how long you just sat there – you must have been super tired – because the next thing you know, Peter jumps on top of you, trapping you against the sofa and him. He buries his head in to the junction between your neck and shoulder, humming appreciatively. “Peter!”
Peter looks up from your neck, giving you a chaste kiss on the lips. When he pulls away, you give him a smile, combing your fingers through his hair. “You look comfortable.” He murmurs and you nod your head – now that Peter is here, you definitely do not feel as tensed or as worried as you initially had been. He wraps his arms around your waist.
“How was your day?” You ask him, rubbing your thumb across his cheek and Peter smiles before adjusting himself on top of you so that instead of crushing you under his weight, he is holding himself up with his elbows above you. You move slightly and Peter slides in beside you, letting you use his arm as your pillow as one of his arms is still wrap around your waist.
“I think we may need a bigger chair.” Peter comments instead and you chuckle before moving closer to him. “It was alright; fairly quiet night too.” He tells you and you grin as you bury your face further in to Peter’s neck. Peter continues to talk about everything he did from after school until just now – his voice is so soothing and the sound of his steady heart beat is slowly starting to lull you to sleep.
Peter looks down to find you asleep; one hand clutching his shirt, legs tangled with his. A soft, small smile appears on his face as he gazes at you, brushing a strand of hair out of your face so that he can get a better look at your face. Coming home to see you is always nice; he is very thankful too that May trust the both of you – the amount of times May has come home to the two of them sleeping on the sofa is uncountable.
Peter pulls you closer to his chest, nuzzling his face in to your hair. He loves holding you in his arms; loves the fact that you trust him enough to fall asleep with him and in his arms. “Sleepy girl.” He mutters, chuckling to himself – this habit of yours is really adorable. Even though you won’t admit this, Peter knows that you sleep the best whenever you are with him, which is one of the reasons why you, more often than not, stay up to wait for him. Smiling to himself, Peter watches you sleep, counting the freckles across your cheeks and mapping every single inch of your face.
This is probably the umpteenth time you have fallen asleep in his arms and Peter truly enjoys this; he enjoys having you in his arms as much as he is able to hold you in his arms. He reckons it would be better if the both of you sleep on the bed as it is much more comfortable but being the sweet boy that he is, Peter doesn’t want to disturb your sleep at all.
So instead, Peter runs his fingers through your hair, focusing on your steady heartbeat. He closes his eyes as he concentrates on your even breaths and the softness of your hair, until gradually it begins to lull him too. The last thing Peter remembers thinking before he falls asleep is how lucky he is to have you fall in love with him and lucky to have you in his life.
do you think andrew and neil tell each other "i love you"? nora said no but ,,
i disagree with a lot of things nora said and this is one of them.
  • it’s not easy because those are big words and both neil and andrew have troubles with expressing emotions,
  • usually they prefer to show their feelings by simple gestures: an extra blanket during movie nights, a glass of water on the nightstand when andrew drank a little too much in columbia the previous night, always lightning two cigarettes instead of one, leaving fresh clothes and a towel (the fluffy one because andrew would never say it, but neil knows it’s his favorite) in the bathroom when andrew had a rough night and doesn’t want to be touched right now, etc.
  • the first time neil tried to say those words, it was when he got knocked on the court and it was bad enough he needed to go to the hospital
  • and while the anesthesia was working miracles, neil looked at andrew and started to say “i lov-”
  • but andrew looked at him with those angry eyes that immediately shut neil up, “don’t bullshit me like you’re going to die” because fuck is neil dramatic
  • “but you know that i do, right?”
  • “just how hard you got hit in your head?”
  • when the words are finally out, it’s andrew who says it first
  • it’s an accident, of course, because andrew understood long ago that when you trust someone this much and they’re always somewhere around even if only in the back of your mind, it’s easier to speak your thoughts out loud without even realizing it
  • and of fucking course it’s because of a damn cat because lately everything happened because of a damn cat ( “andrew, he’s not damned, he’s your child” “shut the fuck up nicky” )
  • it’s a normal movie night while they’re watching one of the movies from a list that nicky and matt made for neil since in their opinion his knowledge of the pop culture was terrible (neil still remembered how scandalized nicky was when neil didn’t know what you should do “if you like it” put a damn ring on it, neil)
  • they’re not cuddling because it’s hot and they rarely do it anyway unless they’re too tired after practice to even care but they’re sitting close enough that their shoulders are touching
  • but then the cat, this damn cat, jumps on the couch next to neil. it’s fine, it’s normal. king lives up to his name and thinks he owns the place, so it’s good
  • few minutes later andrew feels a pressure and from the corner of his eye he sees that neil scoots closer to him. andrew doesn’t mind, neil respects his boundaries enough to know what andrew is or isn’t comfortable with
  • he doesn’t mind until neil is draped over his lap with a dramatic sigh and okay, he knew he signed up for a drama queen (surprisingly enough kevin isn’t the only one and andrew doesn’t fucking know how can they fit on one throne together but this is his fucking reality) but this is pushing it
  • andrew: what. the. fuck.
  • neil: oh, were you here the whole time? didn’t notice, you’re so sma-
  • andrew: tch, tch. think about what you’re doing right now
  • neil smiles but doesn’t explain. when andrew looks at the couch next to him, king is laying on the better half of it, stretching his back and why is andrew even surprised? of course neil would rather lie on top of andrew than push the damn cat off the couch
  • “you’re fucking lucky i love you” is all andrew says, it sounds angry and impatient, but it’s enough to make both of them freeze. when neil wants to look up, andrew wraps one arm around him and pushes him down to his chest. “don’t”
  • “but you know that i do too, right?” “watch your damn movie”
  • neil says it two days after, again because of the damn cat (but by now andrew thinks that maybe king really isn’t damned after all). andrew’s sitting on the same couch one morning, he’s sideways so he’s facing king who stares back at him. andrew is talking so he doesn’t hear when neil comes to the living room and stands behind andrew.
  • “devil incarnate, what you staring at? get away from my leg, god you’re so fucking stupid, what is that? are you purring at me? you know what i’m gonna do-” andrew says all of this with the most monotone voice while holding a cup of coffee in his hands and a cat snuggling to his leg
  • and neil knows he shouldn’t, because andrew doesn’t respond well to confessions but he just can’t stop the words that come out of his mouth. “shit, i really do love you” and it’s out there and andrew’s back stiffens and he doesn’t turn around but neil feels so good
  • something hits andrew right this moment, in their apartment, with their cat nuzzling against his knee, holding an ugly cup that neil bought for him last christmas.
  • those words… they feel… they feel nice.
  • they feel like home
  • so from now on neil might say them more often and andrew isn’t there yet but every time he hears it, he says “i do too” or whenever neil leaves, andrew asks “you know that i do, right?” and neil smiles at him because he knows, he always knew
  • and andrew has the damn cat to thank for all of this
  • but he won’t thank the damn cat because what the fuck and also he’s a little shit
  • let me die now
nurseydex accidently meeting in a coffeeshop a few years after they break up
’“Holy shit!”
Derek ducks down behind the partition of the coffee bar.
“Shit? Shit! Wait – why shit?” Ginny ducks down behind the partition with him, peeking carefully around from their spot on the floor to scan the seating area.
“Who we hiding from, D?”
And thank Bittle for having Ginny with him. She’s the only person he knows besides maybe Chris who would actually hide out with him.
“My ex.”
“Ooh, yeah. Which one?”
And bless sweet Gin’s heart. They’d met in grad school post-Epic-Heartbreak. She can’t know that there’s only ever been one ex to break Derek’s chill.
“The one from Samwell.”
“Oh well, yeah, that I figured. No way you’d go ducking around corners for August or Victor. I meant, which one is he?”
And, huh, maybe she did know.
“Is it the buff blonde? Nah - he’s too buff. And blonde. What about tall, dark and hipster with the skateboard? Mmm - nah, that’d be too much hipster in one relationship.”
“I’m not a hipster.”
“You keep telling yourself that, bud. But maybe it’s….ooooooh. Please, please, please tell me it’s the redhead giving mad arm porn right now!”
“Fuck.”
“Daaaaamn, Derek.”
And yeah, while Will’s always been beautiful, his post-grad glow-up was undeniable.
He’d grown his hair out up top and actually styled it into something soft and modern. He’d clearly still been working out if the arm porn was any indication. And sweet Bittle he’d apparently been spending real time out in the southern California sun because his freckles were popping.
“You let him go? Shit. Alright. So, what’s the game plan here? We gonna try sneaking past? Or - I could cause a commotion and you can run out. Or –”
“You could actually pick up your ‘venti iced skinny hazelnut macchiato, sugar-free syrup, extra shot, light ice, no whip’ monstrosity and just come say hi.”
Will’s gorgeously freckled face peaks over the partition where he’s waving Derek’s order.
“Hi, Dexy.”
“I knew no one else actually ordered this thing.”
“Oh wow. He knows you, man.”
Did Derek say he loved Ginny?
“Dex, Ginny. Ginny, Dex.”
Derek watches as Will’s old guard goes up as he takes Ginny in. He gets it, she’s gorgeous: dark skin and darker hair, open smile, miles of leg visible even while they’re both crouched on the ground.
“Hi Dex, wow! This is incredibly awkward.” Ginny whirls as she gets up, trips a bit, as she tries to keep Dex in her line of sight. “So nice to meet you, though! Heard tons about you. Great things! Wonderful. I’m just gonna wait outside. Ok, bye!”
“She’s cute.”
And Derek can’t tell what that tone is trying to communicate, but he breathes deeply as he pushes himself to his feet. It may have been a few years, but he hasn’t completely forgotten how to do this.
“She is, and also in a pretty committed relationship with her library and law school, right now.”
“Oh.”
“Will, we’re just friends.”
Who knew watching him blush would still send butterflies dancing in Derek’s gut.
“That’s not actually my business anymore. You’re not my – Gah. Do-over.”
Do-overs had become an essential part of their relationship: a way to keep conversations from devolving into a circle of blunders.
“What brings you out to Cali, Derek?”
“Uh, just one last hurrah! I, uh, I’ve got some pretty big deadlines coming up this fall, and yeah, just wanted a chance to get away before things get intense.”
“Intense? You’re writing!”
“Yeah. Found a publisher and everything.”
“Of course you would.”
“Alright, Mr. Tech-Wunderkind.”
“I’m just a programmer, Derek.”
“For Google.”
“Yeah, well.” And he does that Country-Boy hand to his neck thing as the sun flashes through the window behind him, and Derek’s heart does something complicated in his chest.
“Well it was good seeing you, Dex. I should, uh, catch up with Ginny, though, so uh, yeah. Thanks for grabbing my drink.”
With one last wave, Derek turns and exits the shop without doing anything embarassing like knocking over someone’s drink or stumbling over someone’s backpack.
Ginny bounces on the balls of her feet when he comes out.
“Wow, so he was definitely hot. Was that ok? Was he cool?”
“He is. It was. He was.”
“Cool, cool, cool.”
“Very chill.”
“But….?”
“Derek!” He turns and finds Will barrelling out the door behind  them.
“Dex?”
“Stop calling me that.”
“What difference does it make what I –”
“I just – What’re the chances we just run into each other again. I don’t know. I just wanted to hear –”
“Will.”
Will looks like Derek feels. A little bit punch-drunk, a little bit hopeful.
“Come to dinner with me.”
“Oooh! Go to dinner with him!”
Ginny.
“It just seems like a good idea!” Her whisper-shout is equal parts adorable and unchill.
“Please?”
“Yeah, ok.”
“Woooot!”
“I’m just gonna go drop her off. Somewhere. Anywhere.”
“Alright, I’ll text you the location.”
Sitting across from Will again is just as intense as Derek remembers it.
Will’s intentional, direct, interested, challenging in a way that leaves Nursey both breathless and keyed up.
It’s like being at Samwell again and not at all. None of the impatience, much more understanding, and so much hope.
“What’re we doing, Will?”
Brown eyes twinkle at him mischievously. “Eating dinner, Derek.”
“Dex.”
Will’s chuckle is warm and low and utterly devoid of anything defensive. Derek loves it.
“What do you want us to be doing?”
“It didn’t work out last time.”
“Yeah, but we were scared. And idiots.”
“We kinda were.”
“Me especially.”
“Will, no.”
“Derek, yes. I couldn’t see how you could possibly want me, especially when I wasn’t even there to remind you that I’m your favorite idiot to argue with. It drove me crazy to think about you with someon–”
The benefit of eating at the bar is not having a pesky table to stop you from cutting off dumb, beautiful, redheads ridiculousness with a long overdue kiss.
“I just wanted you.”
“I just want you, if that’s still an option.”
Definitely, still an option.”
Good Morning | A Tom Holland Imagine
Tom Holland x Reader
Words: 2,297
TV: PG-14
The sun slowly rises over the edge of the painted windowsill. His mother thought that the color was far too white when they purchased the house, so now a creamy off-white covers the old wood. It smells a little like rain inside his old room as a breeze flows through the crack in the window. The blankets shift around you, but you’re still sound asleep. It would be easy to let yourself stay away in your dreams, but as a gentle hand rested on your shoulder and rubbed a soft thumb up and down over your skin, you knew that he back of your eyelids were nothing compared to the dream laying right in front of you.
As you opened your eyes you saw Tom. His eyes were barely open, his hair a mess of waves and curls all over his head. Lips pulled upwards into a sort of groggy grin. His skin warmed you underneath the comforter. His parents kept the house so cold, but you didn’t really notice when Tom had his arms wrapped around you all through the night, even when you tossed and turned. He moved a little closer to you so that your noses were almost touching, the details of his face starting to blur with the short distance between the two of you. He moved his hand from the top of your shoulder to cup your blushing cheek. Tom leaned in and gave you a soft good morning peck on the lips. You hummed against his and that make him let out a little laugh.
“Hello Tom,” you gave him a slight eskimo kiss. He closed his eyes a little bit as you did that, and then smiled a little more once you pulled away and bit your bottom lip.
The room was doused in a honey glow, and so were the tops of his cheeks, but in a different sense. All thing lay still as the two of you gathered energy form one another to seek something outside of the bed. His old belongings still sat on the shelves. Pictures of him throughout his 10 year career. In a tutu, in mud, in a mustache you so enjoyed on him. The only thing that was different was the bedding. These had to be new sheets and new blankets because they were more comfortable than any hotel bedroom the two of you had ever shared. You moved in closer so that his chin was at your forehead and your nose was laying hot air against his bare chest. He hadn’t worn a shirt, but he did wear black sleep pants to bed. They were very soft as well.
“How did you sleep?” He nearly whispered the words, let them be the very first caring and loving words he’d say to you today. He rubbed your skin with a feather of a touch, and it very nearly tickled.
“Fine…” You said groggily in a light tone as you rubbed the crust of your dream from your eyes. A remnant of what you had forgotten the moment you opened your eyes and saw Tom laying right before you.
“What shall we do today? The sun is actually shining for once.” His voice was low and smooth. It was obvious he had been awake a little longer than you, watching peace kiss over every feature of yours until his hand disturbed your sleep. He kissed your forehead and brought you into his arm. You sighed happily.
“I think we should go for a walk. You can tell me all about your life growing up here. Where you went to school, where you met Harrison, where you had your first kiss…” He loved the way your voice fell upon his chest. The vibrations woke his heart and played a song on his rib cage that the blood pumping through him would tune their beat to. His eyes closed fully, and as you spoke he almost fell back asleep. Having you in his arms, at home, with your bodies so wonderfully entwined, made him think about how lucky he was. “Tom?”
“Yes- (y/n). I am awake, love.” When he was sleepy or groggy, the pet names became more common. He let out a heavy breath that fell onto the top of your head, his chest pushing out onto yours made you feel like you were truly engaged in the cycle of him. “I think a walk would be lovely.”
“You know what else would be lovely?” You tilted your head up and pulled yourself just a little bit out of his grasp so you could really look at him. His jaw was sharp, bold. His eyes a a little more open now than previously. You noted a few hints of a real mustache growing on his upper lip. You freed your hand and ran a finger over it. He shook his head a little bit and smiled. “If you kissed me.”
Tom leaned in to give you a kiss on the mouth, but you placed that roaming finger over his lips to stop him.
“What is it now? You said a kiss, dahling.” His tone sounded a little offended, his eyes showing that and then something else- intrigue.
“You are correct, but I didn’t say where, Holland.” You pulled your finger away from his lips and set the tip on your forehead. “Here.”
So he kissed you on your forehead, slowly, lightly. Like he was trying to leave a love spot, but it was unsuccessful and you were glad. How would you explain it to his parents.
“Is that all, love?” He asked, but he already knew the answer. You shook your head innocently and smiled. “Where else?”
“Here, please.” You pointed to your nose, which he obliged with an peck right on the tip, followed by a long muah sound.
“That was very polite.” He said.
“I always mind my manners, Tom…” You said, shifting your arm to be a little lower and closer to your body. You set your fingertip on your lips. “Now he-”
But he had kissed the word away from your lips, stolen like the hours of the night you two had shared. Your face softened into one close to the peaceful expression you assumed when your mind was off in dreamland. You had always loved dreaming, loved going away to your own little world filled with nothing but happy endings, but this was so much better.
His lips were slick and tender. You let your hair tangle behind you on the pillow as he moved to be laying on top of you so that he could fill your soul with his love for you. His tongue graced over the end of your lips just enough for you to take the hint and let him ghost over your tongue. It made you lean up toward him, your hands finding his hair to delve your fingers into the curls and pull just slightly on the roots as his hips pushed down onto yours. He had incited a moan that really helped to wake you up. You brought your legs to wrap around his torso, which made him push down harder against you. You turned your head to get some air, and he grunted just a little as you pulled his head down onto your neck.
“Here,” you moaned just a little as you spoke, and he smiled against your skin.
Right as his momentum started to rise, there were three light knocks on the bedroom door. Tom’s eyes shot open as he adjusted to look at you. The blush across your skin was running at a thousand degrees, and his pants would need to be more than adjusted before he stood up to answer the door. He simply moved to sit up next to you, you did the same.
“Who is it?” He asked in an inconspicuous tone, but as his Dad, Dominic, popped open the door, his eyes scanned the room like a robot searching for life. Tom’s blue staffy, Tessa, scooted from between the space of the door and his father’s legs to jump onto the bed and between Tom and you. Tom played it cool by giving his father a small wave, but it was obvious Dominic knew what was going on in that bedroom. “Hi Dad.”
“I just wanted to let you know that Sam and Harry took Tessa for a long walk, but it seemed she hasn’t quite calmed down yet. You mother cooked breakfast about 45 minutes ago, and Paddy is at a play-date today. I thought you two love birds might like to know what the rest of the world was up to today.”
“Thank you, Mr. Holland.” You said in a friendly and almost chipper tone. His energy brought an air of ease into the room when you and Tom had filled it with tension. Dominic shook his head and waved a hand at you.
“No Mr. Holland business. Call me Dom, or Dad. We’ve talked about this, (y/n).” He was so happy that you had come to visit them with Tom, and if Tom had flown you all the way out to Kingston upon the Thames, it meant he was very serious about a long-term relationship with you.
“Okay, Dom. Thank you.” You smiled and waved goodbye as he exited the bedroom, closing the door behind him. “I can’t believe he closed the door after himself.”
Tom was petting Tessa at the time, eyes focused on her little bent ears. He grinned the entire time he looked at her. He let little kisses to the top of her smooth head and booped his nose against her wet one. When he looked up to you he felt sheepish. “I’m sorry, love. I wasn’t listening to you.”
“I can’t really blame you with this beauty in the room.” When you set your hand on Tessa, she turned her entire body really quickly to lick your face clean. You laughed and gently urged her away. “Okay! Okay! I love you too, Tessa.”
Tessa wagged her very large tail so happily against the blanket that it left a divot. You slid form under the covers and stood from the bed. You had worn a nightgown that was modest enough for bathroom breaks in the middle of the night, but silky a sheen enough for Tom to not have found it very easy to keep from smoothing his fingers across you all night as he slept. When you stretched a little bit of the bottom of your butt peaked from beneath your gown. Tom whistled and when you threw his black shirt from off of the ground at him, a wide and cheeky smile appeared from beneath it.
“You look lovely. The morning light caught in the light strands of your hair. The bags beneath your eyes seemingly rested…” He was partially complimenting you, while also being very much himself in talking about your eye bags.
“They’re pretty bad, huh?” You asked as you searched your suit case for some clothes to change into after you took a shower. When you turned to face Tom he had put on the shirt, cuddled up to Tessa, and was nodding his head at your rhetorical question. “You look handsome.”
“This mop? Not likely…” He sad pointing a finger form his free hand to the top of his head. You walked over a ruffled a hand over it. “Hey!”
“I like that mop of yours. I absolutely adore your curls.” You said pressing a kiss onto his forehead. When you turned away he took your hand and pulled you back down to him.
“I absolutely adore you.” He caressed your cheek as he pulled you across his lap. Tessa moved over to your side of his bed easily, preoccupied with a toy she’d found somewhere in the room at some point. “I think I Iove you?”
“I’d hope so, or else this is one elaborate booty call.” You were teasing, and kind of thought he was too with the way he set his emotions out for you. The look in his eyes was tender though, passionate. Loving, if you wanted to put an exact name on it. “Oh.”
“I am very much serious right now.” He didn’t look away fro your eyes, didn’t let his hands leave your skin even for a second. Tom set his forehead against yours and closed his eyes. “I love you, (y/n). With all of my Englishman heart.”
“I love you,” you said without hesitation. He leaned away from you and started to smile, but you were already beaming. “Tom Holland, I love you!”
This time, you kissed him, and it was full of sunshine and daisies and every happy second the two of you had ever spent together. It was full of text messages, and emojis, and FaceTimes, and yesterdays, and tomorrows. It was full of an I do now and forever more. You thought about how this was the way you would kiss him on your wedding day and that made you push him back onto the mound of pillows at the head of his bed to speckle his face with kisses. When you pulled away it almost looked like tiny hearts were floating around his head. You smiled.
“I think that if you kiss me again, we’ll never get out of this bedroom.” Tom said, brushing some hair behind your ear so that he could see your face fully before cupping a cheek in his hand. You kissed his palm, sighed onto his love line.
“Would that be so bad?” You asked in a sultry, and honestly curious tone. He shook his head while he grinned, laying a perfect kiss to the tip of your nose.
“No, I suppose it wouldn’t be.”
