if i had a dollar for every time i've said or thought this

anonymous asked:

Hello! First off, thank you for the effort you put into your master posts and everything. I've been a casual 1D fan since the beginning, but since Louis' last interview I found myself falling down the rabbit hole. I was looking at your tag on larries' first reactions to babygate, and it seemed a lot of you thought the ending for it was to lead to Louis coming out. Does anyone seem to know why it didn't play out like that? Why go with babygate at all ifnit didn't lead to something big like that?

hi there, it’s so interesting to hear that these interviews make you fall down the rabbit hole instead of what his team wants, to alienate you or to say those fans (us)are crazy. He has a gf and a son and hasn’t been seen w H publicly since MITAM promo. We never had such drought as now and interestingly there are still baby larries coming to the fandom. What makes you believe in these times? (Maybe your perspective helps those who doubt)

Re babygate: that’s the million dollar question, to be honest. As far as I know they were both led to believe it would end with a co, that’s why they agreed to it. BG just didn’t fit any of the previous attempts to closet them and there were always times when it seemed they were able to break a few chains so as it was such a monumental move (a baby ffs) and HOW it was presented, how everything was yet again about Larry, how the pregnant Harry manip got syndicated it just… it was the weirdest thing ever, you know? It was sooo transparent, their every move, and it wasn’t ever supposed to go on till the birth, it was never supposed to go that far. I’ve heard some rumors that bg was still a better alternative than something else (thank god I don’t know what that was), so right now the best answer I can come up with is that it had to do with 1D not re-sigining with Syco, because by then that was clear and maybe it became clear to Simon as well. As for, how it got so out of control that we’re here with a 1.5 yo old baby and E, we don’t know that yet. Normally in this fandom it takes a couple of months to filter down the rumors and to find a reason we can collectively agree on. I think I can safely say there’s 3 truths right now.

H and L are together and love each other.

That baby who they so desperately want to make you believe is his, is not Louis’, and neither Briana’s. They used dolls and several different babies in the stunt, so when we said it’s fake, it was really fake.

There’s a big ass war bts because it’s clear af Louis doesn’t want this but somehow cooperates on a half-arsed way and he makes it as ridiculous as it can be. It’s clear as the sun that many are making public statements that this team is fucking Louis over and it has never been this PUBLIC before.

I’d love to hear about your thoughts, coming so new here in this hellhole. :D

Thanks for the lovely words, glad my mp’s helped. Welcome to the fandom. :) xx

News Time!

So Yknow that new donate button up on my blog? The one where I said it wasn’t urgent and currently circulating my blog every 12 hours? Well it’s urgent now. It’s shitty but I thought I had more time to move out of the house but now I’ve got a week instead of 2 months. I’ve gotta gather 600 dollars for me to actually pay to have a room. Being jobless at the moment makes it impossible for me to do. I’m sorry I have to do this but I gotta announce this again. My donate button is up there and I’d highly appreciate donating so I can stop burdening my family and start living on my own.

The meanest person I've ever met

Back in middle school, my father lost his job, and was having a hard time getting a new one. Because of this, my household had to cut down to only buying what was completely necessary (food, water, medicine and bills) to make sure we wouldn’t lose what was left of our money. This was a really difficult time for our family. This situation my family was in is important to the story.

Also, by this time, I was out of my weeaboo phase, and more into a phase where I was obsessed with drawing.

When I first started seventh grade, I befriended a girl we’ll call Yui. She was my only friend who attended my school, since my best friend had moved away to California over the summer.

Let’s talk about Yui for a little bit. Yui was nice (at first). Yui was a weeaboo, but not a severe one. Honestly, I was jealous of Yui since she had more stuff than me.

Our friendship was awesome at first. We would meet after school and read manga in the library. I would draw all the time, and Yui would show me her art she did at her house. I found out all of Yui’s drawings were traced, but this isn’t really important to the story. We would also talk about anything else that was on our minds. I really thought that this friendship was going to go smoothly.

I don't know a lot about the French Revolution, but I'm trying to understand, so… what are your TRUE feelings about Robespierre? From what I've read it seems like he had good ideas, but was far too extreme, killing pretty much anyone who opposed the republic. What are your thoughts?

oh god is this still the lying meme or not

I thought I could handle the lying meme but I can’t, I can’t handle the untruth.

Trufax: Robespierre really, really, really-and-truly, didn’t kill “pretty much anyone who opposed the republic.”

Trying to consider the French Revolution, including the Terror, a) without reference to the many-fronted war, and b) as the work of a single person, will inevitably give a confusing and inexplicable picture.   Unfortunately that’s the view that gets spread around most of the time.   Some of that’s from the sheer need to simplify for high school history exams, some of that’s from contemporary or just-post-revolution political agendas (some of the Thermidoreans involved in his execution were quite candid about pushing blame onto him for other people’s ideas, and naturally historians writing during the highly repressive Bourbon restoration weren’t going to be full of praise), some of that’s from more modern political agendas (like the time an American conservative thinktank threw a few hundred thousand dollars at a top French historian to fight communism, it would be hilarious but it’s really not).

Was Robespierre willing to execute people he perceived as threats to the Republic?  Yes, certainly.  Was Robespierre behind every execution?  God no.  He was fairly regularly arguing against them, sometimes successfully and sometimes not.  Because—and this gets ignored in too many accounts—he didn’t have any kind of supreme power, even as one of the most prominent members of the Committee of Public Safety.

Blargh, I know I’m not throwing a lot of sources for this out here, so it comes across as “believe me because i said it on tumblr.”  One piece of reading I often recommend is RR Palmer’s Twelve Who Ruled.  I don’t think he’s right about everything–including about Robespierre, I should say–but at least it’s a short read, in English, easy to find in cheap used copies, that will give some insight into some of the many people involved in the Terror and their conflicts.

Another point to consider: Robespierre was “too extreme?”  Well, what was he extreme about?  He was pretty extreme about abolishing slavery.  He was pretty extreme about universal male suffrage with no income qualifications.  Those are areas in which the moderate Girondins were being moderate, and those are areas in which moderation is crap.   HELL YES let’s be extreme about voting rights.   Robespierre was moderate about the dechristianization and aggressive atheism; he was moderate when it came to the behavior of representatives on mission around France; he was moderate in that he argued strongly against France declaring war on other nations to spread the Revolution.  “Moderate” and “extreme” carry positive and negative connotations when we talk politically—at least in a lot of mainstream discussion—but you need to stop to think hard about what you’re being moderate or extreme about.

Alternative answer, for the lying meme: yeah you know what robes totally did kill everyone and being extreme is always bad, moderation in all things ftw

It doesn’t take long for Wally to arrive after Dick sends the text. He’d just shattered his 5th beer bottle and turned to reach for another stone when he spots somebody wearing a familiar, obnoxiously bright yellow hoodie and faded red cargo shorts walking towards him, a plastic bag filled with bags of chips clutched in one hand and a takeout box in the other. Dick raises an arm in greeting and watches the take out box rise in the air in return.

“I’ve come fully prepared for a code gray situation.” Wally says, coming to a stop by the swings Dick had been sitting on for the past hour. He holds up the bag of chips with a small smile, completely ignoring the crudely made slingshot in Dick’s hand (fashioned out of some twigs and the 300 dollar leather thong he was given to wear for the evening) and the piles of broken glass scattered all over the park bench and the surrounding grass just 5 feet away.

“I thought code gray involved vodka and a special flask from Roy.” Dick says, tucking the slingshot into his belt as Wally carefully sets the box and the plastic bag down on the sand between them and plops down on the empty swing beside Dick.

Ashton Imagine: He Bets He Can Sleep With You

Author: Rhine

Boys will be boys and play their games.

You are not a toy to be played, you are not a challenge to undertake, you are not a prize to be won.

He was just a boy but he should be damn well grown up enough to know your heart was not something to be fooling around with, nonetheless in something as – as childish as a bet.

You’re more than that.

One month. That’s all I need – I’ll have her begging on her knees for me.

He laughs rambunctiously and he shakes his hands with those he called his brothers, the other boys clapping him on the back with wide smiles and shaking heads, arched eyebrows with disbelief in his abilities but amusement at watching him try all the same.

Good luck, mate. She isn’t easy.

She makes it hard – I bet you’re well familiar with that.

There’s a roar of laughter as they picture the same girl with the bright smile, but that’s not what they see.

They see a game.

And you see right through him.

He’s naturally charming, but he turns his smile up just for you.

Coy looks, fluttering touches, witty statements – Ashton is pulling at the rug underneath you while trying not to let you see how he was trying to make you fall.

He’s always finding an excuse to place a hand on your back, always searching for a seat next to you then sitting where you can feel the heat of his skin so close to yours, trying to spin the conversation the way he wants it to go.

What are you doing later this evening, Ash?

He’s not exactly subtle about it either.

It’s in his lopsided smirk that screams of arrogance, it’s in the way his voice adopts a purr or a husky tone whenever he leans in close to whisper into your ear; it’s in the way he always jumps at the chance to spend time with you – alone, always just you and me, always want to come to my place.

You know just what Ashton Irwin was playing it and you don’t remember ever signing up for a game.

It’s a little flattering at first, the sudden increase in attention he gives you.

After two weeks, it gets suspicious – this was more persevering than just simple infatuation, more focused than sudden feelings.

Three weeks and it’s tiring; want to go out, you look amazing in that dress, give me a call, I don’t tell you enough that you’re absolutely stunning in red –

Four weeks and you find out.

Four weeks and his time is up, his secret’s out.

“What the fuck, Ashton.”

“What about fucking?”

“Don’t you warp my words, Ashton fucking Irwin – I knew you were an ass, but this – this is a whole new level of fuckboy I didn’t think you were capable of.”

“What are you talking about?”

He’s serious now – finally losing that goddamn cocky smirk that you were so used to at this point, no longer slouching casually on the couch but standing up and walking towards your clenched form.

You can see the worry in his eyes, the panic that starts to seep into it as he starts to put the pieces together – the night before that he couldn’t remember, the words that were coming back to him, your eyes flashing –

You’d be amused at how quickly the regret starts flooding through him if you weren’t so fucking mad.

“It was just a –“

“Joke? Say it to my face, Ashton – tell me I was nothing but a joke to you.”

“That’s not what I meant – “

“Tell me, what else does ‘I made a bet I could fuck you in a month’ possibly mean? Do enlighten me.”

He’s silent and you bask in it, the first time he’s shut up around you in a month; no longer casually boasting, no longer flinging out compliments to you that surely didn’t mean a thing.

Ashton doesn’t know how to explain, and he doesn’t need to.

Because he already said all he needed to, his words slurred with alcohol despite his claims for a ‘good tolerance’; extra clingy as his hands met your skin, only letting go once you squirmed out with an excuse for the bathroom.

But his words – that revelation – you weren’t forgetting that anytime soon.

You’ve been so whipped lately, Ashton – what is this, carrying bags and canceling plans for her? Before you know it, you’ll be spending thousands on jewellery she’ll never wear and talking about wedding dresses.

You were just coming back from the restroom after a touch-up, ready for the rest of the night; tipsy enough not to be offended at the words you caught on to, but sober enough to care, stopping a few paces short to listen some more.

Ashton laughed at his friend, movements languid.

Nah, mate – look at that pretty face. What wouldn’t you do for it?

You thought it sweet until he opened his mouth again, voice booming over the music.

‘Sides, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to make this pretty girl mine for a night – and win some cash for it. Lads promised me – well, it’s not a promise until I win – but this bet’s a win-win all over for me.

You’re frozen as the warm fizziness of the alcohol drains from your system, all thoughts of returning back to the group of people you trusted enough to call friends – of sorts – disappearing the moment the meaning of his confession sinks in.

And you’re a fool, you’re a fool for not seeing his ulterior motives, for sitting there as Ashton and his friends continued to drink, returning as casually as can be while hating all the stares you received when Ashton wraps an arm around you again, the others surely thinking you were nothing but an airless girl meant to be passed around.

“I’m sorry.”

He’s sober now, the morning after and remembering every too-loud word that he boasted, the flush of your cheeks that wasn’t from the alcohol, the flinch in his every touch.

‘You’re only fucking sorry you were caught, Irwin.”

He wishes it wasn’t true, and you do too.

You thought he was better than that, but he’s clearly not enough for you, not even close.

“Tell me, Ashton – what did you think of every time you saw me?” You wrap yourself around him, eyes sharp, but he’s not enjoying it, not at all.

“Did you dream of me, Ashton?”

You breath is on his cheek and you love how there’s a tic in his jaw, a sign of unease at your sudden flip in direction, unsure of what game you were playing at now.

“Were you going to tell the boys every last dirty detail?”

Your nails are cold against his skin, crawling up his arm to his neck.

“Tell them how I looked underneath you? Tell them how I moaned your name? Tell them how I was all yours, tell them how I gave myself to you in every single way?”

He gulps at your lips murmuring the words into his neck, Adam’s apple bobbing.

“How much am I worth to you? A month’s time and what, a hundred dollars? Two hundred? You could buy a prettier girl with that amount for less effort, Irwin.”

“Stop, I would never – “

“You’d never answer my calls when I woke up alone. You’d never ask if I wanted to ‘hang out’ again. You’d never even give me a second look when you were done with me – you had your challenge and you’d take your prize but throw it away the moment you were finished looking at it.”

You cut him short and you savour the way his mouth shuts instantly, how you have the authority against him.

“You’re a real work of art, Ashton. I’ve never seen anyone try so fucking hard to bed someone else, and I wish I could say I was impressed, but it’s just so fucking pathetic.

“It doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t – we could –”

“Oh, you put yourself in this very position, Irwin. No amount of apologies can get you out now – I was never a person to you, just a prize. And that makes you absolutely worthless in my eyes.”

You glare at him icily, shutting down any feeble attempts at trying to get himself out of this catastrophic mess.

You almost want to laugh at the panicked desperation as he realizes the quicksand that he’s been walking in this month from toying with you, at his frenzied scrabbles at trying to make things right when he was the one who threw all ideas of right and wrong for any sort of relationship the moment he made that bet.

You’re walking out the door, done wasting your time on him; one last biting remark to leave on his skin for the boys to see as proof.

“Game over, Ashton.”

You feel like a winner as you leave.

I've always had a fantasy that after Kerry chaired Tony's innocence project, Shonda was too tired to carry on the night and left Tony and Kerry alone. In front of her room, she stops, her back to tony (like campaign trail) "Tony" she says "what Kerry?" he replies, fed up. "You want to pretend there's nothing going on between us, ok, but I am done pretending. I think about you every second of the day. I fantasize about your lips, tasting you, feeling you" she turns. Go on girl finish it.

Lol. Thanks for this prompt :) I really got into writing it. And I liked it a lot. So here’s something I need yall to do while reading this. Find the song that Tony mentions in here - “Seconds of Pleasure” by Van Hunt. I suggest going on Youtube- the best versions are there. Now listen to that jawn on replay. I promise you, no matter what part of the song these crucial moments fall on, it will enhance the experience. It actually adds to the tension that I tried to create here.

Enjoy! And thanks once again, anon for the prompt!

Say My Name

Kerry jiggled her crossed leg as she watched the production assistants fuss around with their mics. She leaned over to Shonda. “Did you want to do dinner after this? There’s not a formal one, I don’t think.” Shonda shook her head convincingly.

I’m going to just post this because it’s really my only hope of getting my tooth fixed.

I am 22 years old, I’ve had this cavity since I was 14 or 16 years old that never was fixed. This is why: When the dentists would tell my father about it he would give him his sob story of “I am a single father of 2, I can’t pay for it can we wait until her next visit and I’ll save up” so they said okay, even though I believe this was illegal. I didn’t complain about the pain because I believed this too at the time. He did this every year until I was 18. Right when I turned 18 years old he pretty much said “Screw you this is your problem now”. He never had any intention of getting it fixed.

Now why did I let myself get a cavity? My dad didn’t buy me the things I needed in order to keep my teeth clean. I even got yelled at by my dentist regularly because he thought it was my choice. He didn’t believe that my dad would do that. My father was happy when ever he didn’t have to buy things for me. There was also a period where I was complimented a lot on how nice and white my teeth were and it upset my sister so I stopped brushing them for a while so that people would stop complimenting me, so I’m guessing this helped it decay. I was a stupid kid I know.

The last time I went to visit the dentist I was 17 and she only gave me half of the numbing medicine because I would be numbed until the next day. She was also new. So while she was working on another tooth I felt the drill, it was extremely painful so I jumped and she cut my tooth that had a cavity. She got angry at me. I made sure to take extra special care of this tooth once I finally had some money. While I was flossing the floss caught onto the cut in my tooth and broke it off. A third of my tooth flew out. And also a piece in the middle of the tooth is loose and stabs into my gums causing it to bleed every once in a while, and whenever I clean inside the hole of my tooth. Which I have to do because food gets stuck in it and I don’t want i to decay any more.

I haven’t been able to eat on the right side of my mouth for about 5 years. It’s extremely painful if I accidentally do and I almost pass out from the pain. I lay in the fetal position and cry. It’s that bad. At 22 years old it angers me that I can’t even eat on the right side of my mouth.

Not fixing something like this can lead to really bad things. Like an infection in your brain. A sign of this starting is an abscess in your mouth. And guess what I have, an abscess directly above my decaying tooth. I’ve had it for a few years now. I do have memory problems, they’re pretty bad but I don’t know if it’s from that or other medical things.

I also have all of my wisdom teeth growing in. They’re pushing my teeth closer together. Since I can only eat on the left side of my mouth I get a lot of pain on that side, and when it happens I can’t eat at all.

I have asked my father to pay for these things to be fixed and I will give him payments when ever I can, but he completely doesn’t care. He won’t help me at all.

So the point of this post: I’m asking for help so that I can pay to get my tooth fixed, and also my 4 wisdom teeth pulled out. It’s very embarrassing for me to have to ask for donations, I don’t like that I can’t take care of myself but I would rather ask than die from a bad tooth.

My dad told me that because I go to school right now I do have his dental insurance so it won’t cost me as much as it would otherwise. But I have maybe $4 in my bank account and that’s not going to cover it. I’ve been trying to do commissions and save up and get a job so I can save up more but I’ve been trying this for sooo long and it hasn’t happened yet. And I don’t have a clue how much it will cost because I can’t even afford to go to the dentist to figure out what exactly will need to be done at this point. If you can spare some money even if it’s just a dollar I would be so thankful. If you want to instead trade money for a commission from me I would love that too.

If you can’t spare some money that’s okay, thank you for reading this it means the world to me. If you can reblog this that would be very helpful. I’m sorry to ask for help on here but I’m not sure what else I can do.

If you have any questions my ask is open ♡

Can you explain your rationale for hating strategic voting, and LeadNow in particular? I've been considering volunteering with them in an attempt to get Harper out, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on them as an organization.

The short answer to why i hate strategic voting: John Tory.

The long answer:

1. It’s highly inaccurate.

Polls are snapshots, riding level polls are often extremely wrong, and previous strategic voting campaigns have gotten predictions wrong or just plain not worked. The last election had plenty of different strategic voting campaigns, all designed to stop the Harper majority, all of which spectacularly failed. Many of 2011′s vote predictions were incredibly wrong and thus their recommendations counterproductive.

“In 2008, a number of strategic voting sites recommended the Liberal candidate in the Nova Scotia riding of South Shore-St. Margaret’s. The Liberal ended up third, while the NDP candidate almost defeated the Conservative incumbent.”

““I don’t like strategic voting. I don’t think it works,” she [Elizabeth May] said. When she ran against Conservative minister Gary Lunn in Saanich–Gulf Island, May said, she was told that she was going to split the vote and that the best choice was the Liberals. She won by 7,346 votes – in part because that Liberal vote collapsed and rallied round her.”

2. It takes the issues out of elections.

Strategize voting incentivizes politicians and parties not to emphasize issues, but instead to just prove to your their electability. As in, they deserve your vote not because of what they believe in or will do, but because of how many other people have supported them. Popular does not equal good. Leadnow claims that “We are doing something the parties can’t - putting the issues first” but that’s simply wrong. They’re putting strategy first, and the issues second. There is no conditions for LeadNow under which you should not support a Liberal, NDP, or Green candidate.

For me, if you care deeply about civil liberties and C-51, you shouldn’t vote Liberal.

If you care deeply about stopping the expansion of pipelines you shouldn’t vote NDP.

(please don’t take this as an endorsement of the greens, simply just that i can’t find a progressive issue at the moment that they are uniformly worse on than the liberals and ndp. their flaws, which are many, are pretty much the same as the other two.)

Encouraging strategic voting tells politicians that they can take whatever position they want so long as they can argue they are electable.

extremely unlikely that has ever worked, but rather has worked to cement main parties and diminsh alternatives. thus slows change and progress.

3. It means local candidates don’t matter.

There are liberals who support abortion restrictions and oppose marriage equality, ndp candidates who oppose gun control, greens who are sexist, candidates from every party who oppose palestinian rights, who are corrupt, who are racists, etc. Sometimes shitty people win party nominations. Strategic voting says you should vote for them anyways because their party is “progressive,” even if they are not.

4. It’s a waste of resources.

“Vancouver polling analyst Bryan Breguet suggested that in the 2011 federal election it would have taken as much as 60 per cent of Liberal and NDP voters to switch their choice in their riding to make strategic voting effective, something he called “completely unrealistic."”

This is my primary bone to pick with LeadNow. They are spending tens of thousands of dollars in donations and taking hundreds of volunteer hours on something that will have essentially no impact at best, and will likely misdirect voters and degrade electoral coverage and party focus. If it’s money you want to spend, there are millions better outlets for that. If it’s your time or support you want to give, there are so so many better causes or parties (though i wouldn’t personally recommend it) than trying to convince the rest of the people in your riding that they should vote against their principles and en masse according to whichever candidate some organization thinks is not the best, but the best poised to win.

tl;dr strategic voting (and LeadNow’s Vote Together) is ineffective and encourages political actors to emphasize electability rather than progressive policies

(ps sorry for how long this answer took. if you’ve asked us something, there’s a good chance we’re still getting to it, particularly if we think it deserves a long answer rather than a short thoughtless quip)
