if he needs a lawyer we all know who he should call

My kid does 13K in damage to studio equip, we handle it like lunatics.

[Part 1]

Some background:

I’m an audio engineer and score arranger full time in my self-owned business. It’s how I provide for myself, my fiancée (also CF), and my mother. I record, mix, and master for bands, voice-overs for local commercials, and write music for people’s weddings, college films, indie games, etc.. It was my passion since I was a child and every day I ask myself why I get paid to do what I do.

You know, until today.

I had a woman schedule to come in because she wanted me to record her monologue for an acting class. I thought it was going to be easy enough. I set up a mic and a music stand in the sound booth and got my workstation prepped for tracking. She was supposed to show up at 3:30, so when 4:00 came around, I called her to ask her if she was still coming. It was my last contract for the day and I was wanting to get home to my fiancée, dogs, and dinner.

“Oh, sorry sweetie, I’m going to be there soon. I just had to get my son from ex-boyfriend.”

Uh oh.

4:12, she showed up with her child.

To preface, I’ve never really wanted kids, and don’t really hate them either. But I’ve been childfree of mind for a decade now in league of several bad child experiences in public.

Anyway, I sat her down at the conference table and tried to talk to her about the contract and billing, etc., and just couldn’t because of the six-years-old pile of ovary droppings next to her.

“Mommy it’s cold in here.” “Mommy, I’m bored.” “Mommy, that guy has girl hair.” “Mommy, I want to play on the phone.”

The incessant whining went on for the entirety of the discussion. She did nothing about it. I had an ache in my stomach that this might be a rough session.

I was right.

I showed her to the sound booth, positioned the mic at face level, told her the basics of mic use, and then she floored me with a question.

“Can my son stay in there with you while I do this?” I insisted that he wait in the conference room (across the hall from the control room) because the control room wasn’t a very kid-friendly place considering the 120K of equipment at arms reach.

“But he’s a little angel.”

I shouldn’t have taken her word for it. I SHOULD NOT have taken her word for it. This kid was ANYTHING but. I let him in, told him to sit in one of the office chairs and don’t touch anything. Needless to say, he touched. I queued the recording arm and signaled her to start. She got three lines into her take before I hear a deafening screech and crash.

That little shit machine had just knocked over a $4,000 Korg into a rack with $9,500 of equipment. Completely shattered the touchscreen on the Korg, busted the dials off of half of the effects, and totaled my distressor that I use for almost all the vocals I track.

All of this, by the way, was the room’s length apart from where I told the crotch goblin to stay.

The kid, because of the loud noise, started full-lung screaming. Not crying. Not yelling. Screaming.

The mother, with no hesitation, ran over to the control room and DEMANDED to know what I did to her child. She cussed at me and accused me of hurting her little snot monster. Threatened to sue and even swung at me. When I told her that her precious angel had just racked up at least twelve grand of damages, she said “good”, spit on me, then stormed out, slamming every door on the way. So I pulled the security camera footage and had filed a police report. Grand total: $13,504.25. I also mailed her the bill for her session for good measure.

Of six years in the studio, this is my only truly terrible experience. Fuck mombies. Fuck having children. Thanks for making my vasectomy decision that much easier on me.

NOTE: Pure Filth. Turn back now if you don’t want to see. Turning Tae Tae into my Fuck Puppy (Thanks Anon). Soft femdom. Let me tell you, it was an EXPERIENCE writing this, and I am still not perfectly pleased with it. Mostly because I’m never happy with my own smut writing. I had to do so much research, so google probably thinks I’m freaky naughty af. Which I suppose I am considering I wrote this lol. So, for those that are hardcore into this and think I didn’t portray it well enough, I’m sorry, I tried. And I learned quite a bit about myself, like the fact that if I ever get my hands on someone like Tae, I am so going to try this. Now enjoy, and excuse me as I go drench myself in holy water to cleanse myself of sin.

“You know, I hate the winter. It reminds me of your cold heart.”

My now ex-boyfriend mutters this line, looking into the snowy sky. He sighs loudly and saunters off, without looking back. What a fucking drama queen. I can’t help but snort as I watch him disappear into the light snowfall, and wonder what movie he got that line from.

Cold heart.

I don’t have a cold heart. He was just a damn bore. He never wanted to do anything but watch movies, and freaked out if I suggested anything besides missionary. I’ve been thinking about breaking up with him for weeks now, but was putting it off because I knew he’d cry. This saved me all the hassle.

Note to self: Don’t date actors.

Pairing: AU - Caleb x Reader, Dean x Reader

Warnings: Divorce, cheating (not Dean nor the reader), low self worth, douchebag ex, Dean being perfect (yep that’s a warning), smut (not super graphic but it’s there), oral (female receiving), vaginal sex. Unsafe sex - wrap it before you tap it y’all.

Word Count: 2600ish

A/N: This is written for @jensen-jarpad’s big celebration challenge - I had the idea for it pretty quickly but it took me a while deciding who I wanted to write it for. I ended up going with Dean but it is AU and not SPN verse.

Thanks to the sweet amazing @percywinchester27 for betaing this for me (sorry bout the smut Ana - it just happened!)

Your divorce had finally gone through and you knew you were supposed to feel something. Grief, relief, something. Instead you couldn’t stop thinking how you had wasted 3 years of your life on a guy who had  constantly belittled you, and done everything in his power to close you off from your family and friends.

It had taken him cheating on you with his secretary, which was only the world’s biggest cliche, for you to finally have had enough. He hadn’t even been sad or angry as he had watched you pack your bags and walk out on him, to go live with your dad until you could get back on your feet. Instead, he chose to tell you he knew you would be back. No other man would love you and he was only with you out of pity anyway.

Nothing about your marriage had been healthy or loving. You didn’t regret for one second that you had left him, but still his words had stuck with you. As you sat there on your couch staring at the finalized divorce papers you couldn’t help but wonder if he was right. Were you unloveable? Surely there were girls that looked much better than you, but you had never put that much stock into looks. You had always been a tomboy anyway and your best friend in the entire world was a guy. Or rather he used to be. Caleb had never liked Dean, and the feeling was mutual. The only difference was that Dean had never asked you to chose between the two of them. Caleb had, and the idiot you had been, you had chosen the man who had spent every day of your life together telling you you weren’t good enough, above the man who had been there for you whenever you needed him. The man who had held you as you cried when you mother had passed away. The man who had celebrated every graduation with you. The man who in spite of how he felt about the guy you had married, had showed up at your wedding to support your decision. That had been the last time you had seen Dean.

Pairing: Archie x Reader

Description: Reconciliations between (Y/N) and Archie don’t mean happy endings.

Warnings: none

Word count: 1,469

A/N: I’m so thankful for all of your positive feedback for this series, enjoy!

Archie spent as much time as he could at Pop’s, choosing to sit in a booth that faced the entrance. He would sit there for hours and stare at the door.  Everyone knew why he was doing that, but no one wanted to mention it.  He didn’t need them to tell him; he knew it was hopeless. (Y/N) was not going to return to Pop’s.

Veronica Lodge felt extremely guilty.  She realized that maybe she shouldn’t have told Archie to go to Pop’s, even though he needed to confront her about his feelings.  Archie may have been ready, but it seemed like (Y/N) wasn’t.  That’s how Veronica found herself headed to the diner on a Tuesday night, knowing who she would find sitting in the same booth.

“Archiekins,” she cooed, settling onto the seat across from him, “you gotta snap out of this.  It’s my fault, I know, but you can’t let this destroy you.”

“Why not, Ronnie?” he questioned, and she saw his tear-clouded eyes.  “This is what I have to do to make up for being a horrible friend to (Y/N).  I don’t deserve to be her best friend, so why should I have expected her to want to be more?”

“You didn’t even know she was back,” Veronica comforted him.  “If I hadn’t told you to go to Pop’s, this wouldn’t have happened.”

“It’s good that this happened,” Archie waved her off.  “I needed to know she was back, I needed to tell her.  I just don’t deserve her.”

“That’s not true,” she argued.  He shook his head and turned his focus towards the door.  No one came in.  “I’ll fix this, Archie.  I got you into this mess, and I’ll get you out of this mess.”

(Y/N) was aware of the consequences of her actions.  She knew, as soon as she walked out of the diner, how Archie would respond.  They had been best friends for the first thirteen years of their lives, so she could predict how he would react to this heartbreak. However, she rethought her predictions when a raven-haired girl turned up on her doorstep.

“(Y/N), hi, I’m Veronica Lodge,” the girl introduced herself, sticking her hand out for (Y/N) to shake.  She hesitantly shook it.

“You were at the diner with Jughead and Betty,” (Y/N) recalled, and Veronica nodded.  (Y/N) stepped out onto her porch, closing the door behind her.  “What do you want?”

“Listen, I know what happened between you and Archie,” Veronica explained.

“Do you?” (Y/N) scoffed. “I think you don’t even know the half of it.”

“I know you two grew up together,” Veronica told her.  “I know you two fell in love, and I know that Archie never called you.”

“There’s a lot more to the story,” (Y/N) muttered.  Veronica crossed her arms and sighed.

“I talked to Jughead, Betty, Kevin, even Mr. Andrews.  I know how people other than Archie felt about you.  Archie’s dad told me about your parents and how you always stayed at the Andrews household when they would fight.  Jughead told me about how Archie wanted to ask you to the high school dance before you moved, and he told me about how you two were the most fascinating people in Riverdale.  He, Betty, and Kevin told me about how in love the two of you were.  And from what I’ve seen and heard, it seems like you guys are still very much in love.”  (Y/N) shifted uncomfortably.

“You have no right,” her voice cracked slightly, and Veronica watched as she tilted her head towards the sky, attempting to not cry.  “You can’t just…”

“I’m sorry, I’m just trying to help,” Veronica retracted.  “I’m the one who sent Archie to Pop’s.  He had told me earlier that day that he was still in love with you, and I thought you needed to know.  I thought it would be good for him to get it off his chest.”

“Well now look where we are,” (Y/N) smiled sarcastically.  “We’re on the verge of losing each other because we can’t communicate.”

“Then talk to him,” Veronica urged.  (Y/N) crossed her arms and pursed her lips.  “Talk to Archie, please.  I know he wants to fix this, and I’m pretty sure you do, too.”  (Y/N) stayed quiet for a moment, and Veronica expected for her to send her away.  But (Y/N) uncrossed her arms, still frowning, and sighed.

“Tell Archie to come over here tomorrow,” she instructed Veronica.  Veronica nodded.  “Tell him we need to talk.”

“You wanted to talk, (Y/N)?” Archie asked, tentatively standing on her lawn.  He gazed up at her as she stood at her doorstep; he didn’t want to come any closer until she signaled that it was okay.  (Y/N) grimly nodded and opened her door wider.  Archie walked into her house and glanced around, trying to picture how it looked before she moved.  It was much emptier now.

“It’s pretty empty, I know,” (Y/N) voiced Archie’s thoughts.  His head turned to face her, and he sent a small smile at her. “There’s not much to unpack.”

“It’s different,” Archie agreed.  (Y/N) awkwardly nodded as she hugged her arms to her chest.  “So you told Veronica to tell me that you wanted to talk?”

“Yeah,” she replied. “She showed up at my house yesterday and babbled about how we need to fix this.”

“We do,” Archie pointed out.

“I know,” (Y/N) sighed. Archie furrowed his eyebrows.

“You don’t want to?” he asked, frowning.  (Y/N) furiously shook her head.

“No, I do,” she immediately responded.  “I really want to fix this.  I just… I don’t know how.  I was gonna give it more time.”

“Do you want more time?” Archie questioned.  “If you’re not ready-”

“You’re here,” (Y/N) cut him off.  “You’re here, so we should do this now.”

“What do you want to do?”

“I-” (Y/N) faltered, unable to express what she wanted to say.  She grabbed Archie’s face and brought it towards hers, connecting their lips. He quickly responded by wrapping his arms around her waist and deepening the kiss.  They pulled away, and (Y/N) placed her forehead against Archie’s.  He was grinning madly, but she only wore a small smile.

“You wanted more time to do that?” Archie softly laughed.  (Y/N) untangled herself from Archie’s arms and hugged herself again. “(Y/N)?”

“I didn’t want to…” she trailed off, swallowing her next words.  Archie took a step towards her and grabbed her hand.

“Didn’t want to what?” he asked.  “You didn’t want to kiss me?”

“I did,” (Y/N) assured him, placing the hand he wasn’t holding on his cheek.  “I really did, Arch, but I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“This isn’t hurting me,” he consoled her.  “Sure, after the diner incident I was upset, and I’m sure you were too, but we’re okay now.”

“No we’re not,” (Y/N) began to cry, so Archie wrapped his arms around her.  Her head was nestled into his chest.

“What do you mean?”

“I’m not-” her voice was muffled by Archie’s shirt. “I’m not staying in Riverdale.”

“What?” Archie grabbed (Y/N) by the shoulders and held her so that he could look directly into her eyes.

“I might have to go back to New York,” she elaborated.

“Why?”

“You still don’t know why I’m back,” (Y/N) sadly laughed.  When she saw the puzzled look on Archie’s face, she continued.  “My parents finally got divorced.  My mom wanted to move back here, so I decided to go with her.  But my dad still wants custody over me, so-”

“So you might have to go back,” Archie finished, sighing.  (Y/N) nodded.

“It’s not definite yet, but… they’re going to court next week.  And the chances aren’t in my mom’s favor, seeing as my dad’s a pretty good lawyer.”

“But what about you?” Archie pressed, and (Y/N) stared at him, confused by what he meant.

“What about me?”

“What do you want, (Y/N)?” he asked, drawing her slightly closer to him.  “Who do you want to be with?”

“I want to be with you, Archie,” she replied, stroking a hand across his cheek.  He closed his eyes as he relished in her gentle touch.

“So can’t you say that in court?” Archie questioned.  “Can’t you tell them that you want to stay with your mom here in Riverdale?  Isn’t that what this is all about?”

“It’s not that simple, Arch,” she sighed.  “Sure, I can give my preference and it might weigh the court towards my mom, but there’s more factors than that.”

“You’re going to stay here, (Y/N),” Archie assured her as he enveloped her in a hug.  “We will make sure you stay in Riverdale.”

“God I hope so, Arch,” (Y/N) sighed into his chest.  “I don’t want to leave you anymore.”

“You won’t ever leave me, (Y/N).  I will never let you go again.”

THIS IS NOT A TEST: Federal agents conduct immigration enforcement raids in at least six states
The raids mark the first largescale immigration action since President Trump’s Jan. 26 order to crack down on the estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally.
By https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sandhya-Somashekhar/424900341023463

U.S. immigration authorities arrested hundreds of undocumented immigrants in at least a half-dozen states this week in a series of raids that marked the first large-scale enforcement of President Trump’s Jan. 26 order to crack down on the estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally.

The raids, which officials said targeted known criminals, also netted some immigrants who did not have criminal records, an apparent departure from similar enforcement waves during the Obama administration that aimed to just corral and deport those who had committed crimes.

Trump has pledged to deport up to 3 million undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Last month he also made a change to the Obama administration’s policy of prioritizing deportation for convicted criminals, substantially broadening the scope of who the Department of Homeland Security can target to include those with minor offenses or no convictions at all.

Immigration officials confirmed that agents this week raided homes and workplaces in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, the Los Angeles area, North Carolina and South Carolina, netting hundreds of people. But Gillian Christensen, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said they were part of “routine” immigration enforcement actions. ICE dislikes the term “raids,” and prefers to say authorities are conducting “targeted enforcement actions.”

Immigration activists said the crackdown went beyond the six states DHS identified, and said they had also documented ICE raids of unusual intensity during the past two days in Florida, Kansas, Texas and Northern Virginia.

That undocumented immigrants with no criminal records were arrested and could potentially be deported sent a shock through immigrant communities nationwide amid concerns that the U.S. government could start going after law-abiding people.

“This is clearly the first wave of attacks under the Trump administration, and we know this isn’t going to be the only one,” Cristina Jimenez, executive director of United We Dream, an immigrant youth organization, said Friday during a conference call with immigration advocates.

ICE agents in the Los Angeles area Thursday swept a number of individuals into custody over the course of an hour, seizing them from their homes and on their way to work in daytime operations, activists said.

David Marin, ICE’s field director in the Los Angeles area, said in a conference call with reporters Friday that 75 percent of the approximately 160 people detained in the operation this week had felony convictions; the rest had misdemeanors or were in the United States illegally. Officials said Friday night that 37 of those detained in Los Angeles has been deported to Mexico.

“Dangerous criminals who should be deported are being released into our communities,” Marin said.

A video that circulated on social media Friday appeared to show ICE agents detaining people in an Austin shopping center parking lot. Immigration advocates also reported roadway checkpoints, where ICE appeared to be targeting immigrants for random ID checks, in North Carolina and in Austin. ICE officials denied that authorities used checkpoints during the operations.

[The ‘sanctuary city’ on the front line of the fight over Trump’s immigration policy]

“I’m getting lots of reports from my constituents about seeing ICE on the streets. Teachers in my district have contacted me — certain students didn’t come to school today because they’re afraid,” said Greg Casar, an Austin city council member. “I talked to a constituent, a single mother, who had her door knocked on this morning by ICE.”

Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Tex.) said he confirmed with ICE’s San Antonio office that the agency “has launched a targeted operation in South and Central Texas as part of Operation Cross Check.”

“I am asking ICE to clarify whether these individuals are in fact dangerous, violent threats to our communities, and not people who are here peacefully raising families and contributing to our state,” Castro said in a statement Friday night.

Hiba Ghalib, an immigration lawyer in Atlanta, said the ICE detentions were causing “mass confusion” in the immigrant community. She said she had heard reports of ICE agents going door-to-door in one largely Hispanic neighborhood, asking people to present their papers.

“People are panicking,” Ghalib said. “People are really, really scared.”

Immigration officials acknowledged that authorities had cast a wider net than they would have last year, as the result of Trump’s executive order.

The Trump administration is facing a series of legal challenges to that order, and on Thursday lost a court battle over a separate executive order to temporarily ban entry into the United States by citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries, as well as by refugees. The administration said Friday that it is considering raising the case to the Supreme Court.

Some activists in Austin and Los Angeles suggested that the raids might be retaliation for those cities’ “sanctuary city” policies. A government aide familiar with the raids said it is possible that the predominantly daytime operations — a departure from the Obama administration’s night raids — meant to “send a message to the community that the Trump deportation force is in effect.”

Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice, a pro-immigrant advocacy group, said that the wave of detentions harks back to the George W. Bush administration, when workplace raids to sweep up all undocumented workers were common.

The Obama administration conducted a spate of raids and also pursued a more aggressive deportation policy than any previous president, sending more than 400,000 people back to their birth countries at the height of his deportations in 2012. The public outcry over the lengthy detentions and deportations of women, children and people with minor offenses led Obama in his second term to prioritize convicted criminals for deportation.

A DHS official confirmed that while immigration agents were targeting criminals, given the broader range defined by Trump’s executive order they also were sweeping up non-criminals in the vicinity who were found to be lacking documentation. It was unclear how many of the people detained would have been excluded under Obama’s policy.

Federal immigration officials, as well as activists, said that the majority of those detained were adult men, and that no children were taken into custody.

“Big cities tend to have a lot of illegal immigrants,” said one immigration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly due to the sensitive nature of the operation. “They’re going to a target-rich environment.”

Immigrant rights groups said that they were planning protests in response to the raids, including one Friday evening in Federal Plaza in New York City and a vigil in Los Angeles.

“We cannot understate the level of panic and terror that is running through many immigrant communities,” said Walter Barrientos of Make the Road New York in New York City, who spoke on a conference call with immigration advocates.

“We’re trying to make sure that families who have been impacted are getting legal services as quickly as possible. We’re trying to do some legal triage,” said Bob Libal, the executive director of Grassroots Leadership, which provides assistance and advocacy work to immigrants in Austin. “It’s chaotic,” he said. The organization’s hotline, he said, had been overwhelmed with calls.

Jeanette Vizguerra, 35, a Mexican house cleaner whose permit to stay in the country expired this week, said Friday during the conference call that she was newly apprehensive about her scheduled meeting with ICE next week.

Fearing deportation, Vizguerra, a Denver mother of four — including three who are U.S. citizens — said through an interpreter that she had called on activists and supporters to accompany her to the meeting.

“I know I need to mobilize my community, but I know my freedom is at risk here,” Vizguerra said.

Masterlist

If there was one thing Steve Rogers could accomplish where women were involved, it was being chivalrous to the ever painful T; where you were involved, though, it was an entirely selfish endeavor. If he held a door, it was only to watch your ass as you walked past. If he offered to help you out of one of Tony’s particularly low sitting cars, it was purely to feel the silk of your skin and the velvet of your “thank you” wash over him for however brief the moment. And worst? When he helped you into your coat tonight. God, he took two showers and he still could not shake the scent from your hair as it brushed his nose.

Now he was sprawled out on the couch in the living room area of the Avengers compound with the TV on as a haphazard distraction. A light from Wanda’s room lit up the hallway on the second story and easy melodies from her guitar slowly, slowly unwound the tangled strings of his heart. If he listened hard enough, he was sure to pick out Sam’s snores and Tony and Rhodes bickering from the workshop below his feet.

His phone buzzed on the coffee table and he jumped at the distraction. An audible groan fled his lips when he saw your name lighting it up.

‘You up?’ It said.

Pairing: AU Dean x Reader

Warnings: Language, talk of murder and torture and all the stuff that comes with this series.

A/N: This is a serial killer AU of sorts. Not the typical kind, but it has all the deaths and violence this kinda AU bring with it. It was sorta inspired by Criminal Minds and that is why my agents are profilers.

This series will have deaths, violence, love, heartwarming moments and everything in between. I am hereby warning you for yet another rollercoaster ride led by me ;)

Thanks to the amazing @percywinchester27 for being my advisor and beta on this one.

MASTERLIST

You stood in the local police station staring at the man you had been falling in love with through the one way mirror of the interrogation room. He wasn’t speaking. He hadn’t said a word since other than to ask for a phone call since he had arrived at the station. Agent MacLeod and Campbell had been going at him for hours, but he just sat there staring into thin air. Dean was a soldier, and that was the only side of his that he let them or you see at the moment.

When he had been arrested you had felt sick, violated even, but now you felt nothing. Just empty, as you stared at the man, you had started to consider a future with. He had made you feel things you hadn’t in a long time, and now you couldn’t help but think they had all been lies. You watched as Campbell screamed in his face, clearly playing the bad cop while MacLeod sat down next to him talking to him calmly, letting him know they could help him if he just came clean. Dean sent MacLeod a pointed look as his only reply. You knew Dean. He was too smart for whatever game the two agents were playing. There was no way he was going to talk, no matter what his part in all of this was. He had closed himself off, and as profilers they should know the only way they would get him to speak would be to shake him up. Dean was a trained sniper. He could stay in one spot without moving, without flinching under the burning Afghanistan sun. He could stay focused on his target for 72 hours without falling asleep or without food and water. The interrogation room was practically a vacation in comparison. There was no way the two Agents would be able to break him. You knew you needed to shake him, for him to start talking and no matter how much you wanted to go back to Quantico, leaving this case and all the bad memories behind, you and Cas should be the ones in there. You could, because even if Barnes had taken the two of you off as lead investigators, she had allowed you to stay on the case because of your knowledge, even if she hadn’t really been too keen on it. The two of you had a personal connection to the lead suspect, and she felt that would cloud your judgement on any further investigation. Hell, Campbell and MacLeod had even suggested that the last victim would still had been alive, had the two of you just been able to do your damn job.

Rika’s back and MC gets left P. 5

Rika is back and MC gets sick at the same time she feels abandoned. Part 1 (x) | Part 2 (x) | Part 3 (x) | Part 4 (x) | Part 5 (x)

Some say that people experience 3 different loves throughout their lifetime

The first: the young, idealistic kind of love that looks right but may not feel right

The second: the hard love; where lessons are learned and the kind of unbalanced love where making it work is more important that if is actually should work

The love we wished was right

And finally

The third: the wrecking ball; the one we never see coming and teaches us why the rest didnt work out

Looks wrong; but feels right and lasts

Not always will each be experienced in close age gaps following another; some never experience all three

Others are fortuante and only experience one or two

and others believe they have experienced all three in another life

But sometimes love is only a concept and not real for some people in the sense that love only has to be sexual or romantic  and not familial

Whatever the case you need to acknowledge the different loves

Because love is more than just romantic or classified;

Not always will they be romantic or have enough power in them to stir a storm in you, but there is always a level of light within each love

Sometimes, it can be hard to realize, accept, and even move on from; but sometimes it’s best to move on from them, even if they are your family

---

  • You don’t think you can move
  • The sounds of blades ripping through the air make your ears hurt and pop
  • Someone is caressing your head
  • and someone else is gripping your hand
  • You don’t know where you are or why
  • But you don’t feel like you should be there
  • The voices are distant and unlike anything you can understand
  • Sometime later the loud blades stop and you’re being lowered by a few people and wheeled away
  • You hear people arguing and yelling and you still can’t open your eyes
  • Why can’t I see?
  • You can’t move either
  • You feel needles entering you
  • Machines all around
  • And feel nice, clean oxygen enter your nose through tubes
  • Am I in trouble?
  • You still cant hear well
  • But you can feel
  • You feel someone squeeze your hand and someone kiss your cheek
  • You don’t know where they went but after a few minutes they all left

— Jahee —

  • She can’t believe it
  • She doesn’t
  • Not at first, not until V explains
  • He explains that Rika had always been sick
  • that she needed to save everyone and help in anyway she could to feel needed and loved
  • V explained how she could only help them by hurting them and by making MC the middle person
  • But he didn’t think she would hurt MC
  • Not in a way that would kill her way at least
  • By the request of Mr. Han
  • Jahee had both lawyers and psychologist at the standby ready
  • But her main concern was MC
  • She thought MC was gone, that she left without goodbye and was hurt
  • But no; she was wrong
  • MC was the victim
  • What will become of her, she didn’t know
  • She wondered if anyone felt like she did bc no one seemed to think that Rika and V needed to be held accountable
  • It was a game of pointing fingers and “If MC dies what then?”
  • She needed something more awakening and filling than coffee atm
  • She needed MC to be okay

— Yoosung —-

  • He was livid
  • How could V blame everything on Rika? She would never do this!
  • After he saw the messages he threw his phone
  • He went to Zen to be caught up and both went with Jahee to the hospital where Jumin and Seven were waiting for MC
  • He needed to see Rika though
  • Neither Jahee nor Zen complied
  • He asked Jumin to take him to see Rika but Jumin just looked at him with an unreadable expression and if he asked Seven, Seven wouldnt have answered since he’d have been busy on his laptop
  • He almost gave up but then saw Rika in a separate room with V
  • He couldn’t stand V
  • V did this; by allowing this to continue he hurt MC and RIka
  • He would never ever forgive him

—- Zen —-

  • The surgery was long and tiring
  • He canceled everything and stayed in the waiting room Jumin had set up for them rich kid problems
  • He really had a need just to smoke all his stress away but didnt want to knowing that MC wasnt a fan of the smell and he didnt want her to say that when she woke up from the surgery
  • He had it all planned out
  • “Forget Rika and the rest, let’s go and travel without responsibilities MC”
  • And he hoped she’d agree and maybe even offer to take them all to visit her home and family and
  • he was excited that the pet she had was a dog and not a cat bc poor bby cant sneeze and have fun at the same time
  • But he knew he just needed to ask for trust fund over there for some help and once MC was out of here hed propose the idea to her and the other members
  • BUt first he’d need to know how they found her and everything because V was vague and it irritated him how they kept secrets
  • He thought they were all family; is this how a family should be?
  • He really just needed a smoke

—- Seven —-

  • It’s an endless nightmare for him
  • Hacking into the system worked up until he couldn’t continue to watch her stats drop
  • He didnt want to imagine what damage would befall onto MC
  • AFter flatlining a few times, he was sure that the doctors would call her time of death but they kept at it
  • Until finally MC stabilized
  • When the doctors told the rest the news he didnt think he could breathe until he saw for himself that MC was okay and not taken away again by an occult-following quack of a doctor
  • So he kept an eye on her through the video
  • He read on the reports the doctors and nurses were inputting into the system but all he could think about was who Unknown was
  • V would know, but he didnt trust himself to go to V to get answers
  • Not at the moment anyways
  • They must have been good to have helped MC
  • And isn’t there some saying that if a dog likes a person, it’s because they are good?

-

  • You can hear and feel and think
  • But you can’t see
  • Am i even moving?
  • You being to wonder where you have come to that you don’t understand anything anyone is saying
  • You panic because you feel people touch you,
  • but you can’t see anyone or anything and it scares you because they cant hear you to know to stop
  • You try to hear out for your mom or dad
  • You feel hands on your face and you panic because you dont want anyone touching you there; you cant stand anyone touching you anywhere
  • You feel something cold run up your arm and then you fall back to calmness…

—- Jumin —-

  • He couldnt look at her let alone hug her
  • He wanted to know that she would forgive him
  • BUt at the moment he really wanted to know that she would overcome this and wake up and smile
  • Just to see her smile would make everything else fall into a prefecture of being able to breath easy
  • The doctors said that she would have to continue on the medication and get on a clinical trial that can possibly help her we all know Jumin pushed for her to be in one
  • But Jumin didnt think everything would ever be the same
  • They wrapped her face becasue of the medication that Rika gave her, that caused some deformities in her eyes
  • They got to her in time to save her eyes, but she won’t be able to see for a few days until she fully recovered
  • They said she would be groggy when waking up and even confused, which should go away in time
  • They gave her a sedative to relax her so she wouldnt further injure herself
  • But it made him confused that she didnt understand them at all or know who was talking
  • Or how she was feeling all over herself, which caused her to think someone else was touching her and which caused her to panic even more
  • He knew he should go and see Rika and V but he couldn’t atm, not while MC was like this
  • Jahee left to get coffee and to make sure the lawyers were ready for whatever was to come:
  • Either RIka and V are held accountable or not, or if MC decides to leave everyone and order a restraining order- whatever she wanted, he was sure to deliver

— Rika —

  • “It was all for the sake of everyone”
  • she chanted over and over, not knowing that she was mumbling to herself as V and her cousin stood by watching her from the doorway
  • Some time had passed, not knowing what day it was, or what happened after the girl… the one with the sin… after that sinful girl was taken it all went blank for Rika
  • She tried to remember but she couldn’t push past the hazy clouds of incoherent memories she didn’t trust anymore
  • There was one doctor she liked that she saw
  • He was a man of his word and talked to her about religion and even let her explain how that sinful girl made her way into hurting everyone
  • and how it was only possible becuase she and how it was only possible becuase she let it happen
  • If it had not been for Rika, no one would have met MC
  • No one would have been saved!
  • No one would have been liberated from the tribulations and trials and suffering that came with life had it not been for Rika allowing MC into the RFA
  • And the doctor understood that.
  • Rika didnt ask for updates on the sinful girl bc she wanted to know that it was all worth it in the end to save everyone
  • “She woke up and scared everyone when she didnt understand them” V talked to Rika as she continued to mumble her chant
  • Thankfully Jumin is fluent in English and was able to talk to MC for the few moments she didn’t remember Hangul”
  • Rika slightly upset that she failed
  • Hearing the angels mock her as she sat there listening to V talk about that sinful girl made her angry
  • She didnt want to be mocked by the angels anymore

— V —

  • He felt guilty in ways that he knew were sick and twisted
  • He shouldnt have defended Rika or he should have gone to seek help for her
  • He let Rika’s condition continue and grow until she no longer was the same Rika he first met at the gallery all those years ago
  • He was too scared to meet everyone face to face after all that had happened; he didn’t want to see anyone out of fear and shame
  • MC woke up confused and only understandable through English
  • The only thing that kept V sane was the small conversations Jumin would have with him
  • granted they were mainly one-sided, he felt warm and almost forgiven when Jumin talked to him
  • He didn’t know if he would ever recieve forgiveness from MC
  • at this point, he wasnt sure he even deserved it
  • But to know that MC would turn out fine despite all he had done and let Rika do would give him comfort for the rest of his days

-

  • Jumin calmly explained how you were not in America anymore and that you were in South Korea
  • He helped you remember things you already knew but you didn’t want them to know you knew
  • You figured it would make things easier if you let them think you forgot the majority of everything
  • From them abandoning you to the drugs and to the now; you wanted them all to think you forgot the major events
  • You did, however, let them know that you did not forget Paco poor bby was sad until he saw you
  • You found it hard to lie to them for the first day and then went to slowly ‘remembering’ Hangul
  • It was not hard to pretend to be weary around them bc they did abandon you and thought you left them without having known you better
  • You wanted to forgive them for having left you and forgotten about you
  • but you couldnt find it in you to forgive them
  • Try as they might, you could not go back to before Rika resurfaced
  • Zen offered a trip to the States to visit your family, and Jumin ofc said he would pay for the trip for everyone
  • Jahee provided a lot of amazing coffee for you to indulge in such the coffee whore you ever are
  • Yoosung would stop by and cry for a few seconds each visit and then leave the room in an uncomfortable manner
  • and then there was Seven
  • You dont know why but you couldn’t find it in you to ever stay mad at him
  • You did want to ask him about Saeran, bc you weren’t sure if you should expose Unknown’s identity to a hacker who works for bosses that dont seem to be the best runner-ups for ‘Boss-of-the-year-award’

Would he get in trouble? What if by exposing his name, I’d get him in trouble? I don’t want Saeran to be involved. He shouldn’t have to hide either. Where did he go? Would Seven keep this a secret if I asked him to?

— Unknown —

  • He watched MC convey confusion and watched how she reacted towards everyone
  • How she was at ease with Saeyoung and Jumin the most out of all the RFA
  • How she smiled when the secretary would give her coffee and when the red-eyed boy would smile back at her after he would helplessly flirt
  • Or how she would tense up when the young blonde boy walked in sad and left sad, but how she would fondly smile at the boy when he was not apologizing
  • Saeran felt like he was part to blame for what happened to her
  • Maybe one day he will come back and see how things would work out if he could find out more about Saeyoung
  • He felt like he was making all the right choices and for all the right reasons, that is until MC and Paco became his mission, making him loose the game and goal he set out to win
  • His primary concern was how to come back to face Saeyoung without malicious intent
  • until then, he figured he would go to America and see how things were for a few weeks how convenient that it would be during their trip to visiting MC’s home town

--

  • You didnt know if Yoosung would ever look at you the same
  • it bothered you slightly how the one person who you thought would have stayed by your side would leave you a lot more than the rest
  • But you knew
  • you knew how this must have all been confusing for him to have discovered what mental issues his cousin was dealing with
  • You just wished that he didn’t blame V for everything
  • bc it wasnt V, it was all Rika
  • You know you should forgive and forget but you couldnt
  • It didnt feel right to lie to Seven and Jumin
  • but you got the sense that they knew you knew
  • Somehow it a silent agreement between the 3 of you to pretend that you dindt remember most of the past few weeks
  • You were scared of leaving teh hospital because you didnt want to be alone anymore
  • but you were scared of the hospital from the beginning since most of everything started with the hospital
  • Jumin offered you the best lawyers and doctors and space as an apology
  • while Seven kept you company and when he thought you slept, you could hear him profusely apologize
  • You agreed to Zen’s idea of a vacation only after V admitted Rika into the psychiatric ward
  • Yoosung wouldnt talk to you for days or to anyone, but you felt like maybe he needed to take time to re-evaluate his thoughts
  • You enjoyed it when Jahee would bring in a good cup of coffee and talk to you like you used to before
  • No one mentioned the illness you had or the Rika events
  • It made you happy to not think about the stress or heartbreaking moments
  • but it made you sad too because it was your life
  • and no one was acknowledging it at all
  • You did, however, receive only one letter from Unknown who asked you to keep his real name a secret until the next time you would meet
  • He reminded you that you could still talk to Paco about the part of your life everyone was okay with omitting
  • And you understood why they wanted to omit that bit of your life, but omitting it doesn't completely mask the fact that it happened
  • Maybe this will all catch up and resurface some day to where everyone would come to terms with it all
  • and maybe then Rika would be back to how everyone said she was but you found it hard to believe and less thrilling to picture
  • But until then you figured out to slowly let them into your heart instead of you into theirs, things could be different
  • Maybe you would learn to forgive them and learn to trust them as they did to you before Rika
  • But you figured it would take time
  • A person can only hold out so much before they crumble after having pieces of them chipped and filled away to make space for other people to fit with them
  • Maybe if you had stayed home instead of venturing for adventure, you wouldnt have become terrified of the dark, needles, and strangers so much
  • Maybe if you didn’t answer those messages you wouldnt have become so traumitized by a group of people you considered family
  • But maybe if Rika didn’t go crazy on you, you wouldn’t have formed such bonds with people
  • And you know that there was still a lot of more to discover of each member of the RFA before you could ever think of leaving your family
  • For the moment you would settle with: Rika staying far away from you,
  • everyone hovering including the ever so distant smoll angry Yoosung,
  • the constant suppression of events you wanted to make everyone feel guilty about but couldnt bc they did that on their own,
  • and the knowledge that this dysfunctional group of misfits would be your final, unforeseen, and third love.

Denial (AKA: this is soooo not a date. Prompt 92)

AU: this is the prompt given to me by the delightful @marcella-duchamp

Enjoy my dear!

Candlelight flickered across the table, the dim light casting dark shadows across Vegeta’s sharp features. His dark brows were pulled together, fingers drumming restlessly on the wooden dinner table. The waiter had long since kept his distance, especially after he’d asked Vegeta if he was ready to order for the fourth time. If looks could burn holes the waiter would probably be nothing more than a pile of ash. He was waiting for his business associate. She was late. As always. Of course.

Punctuality was not Bulma Briefs strong suit. She was the most gorgeous thing on two legs (and he’d be damned if he EVER admitted that out loud) but hell did he hate how she always kept him waiting. They had an important business dealing to discuss and already forty minutes had been wasted. Growling, he pulled out his smart phone to see if she’d returned his last text. She hadn’t.

“Woman, I swear on everything in me I will go to your house and drag you out screaming and naked.”

He’d thought it at least made his point. Surprisingly, as he was watching the screen the response icon appeared, the tiny bubbles of her incoming text taunting him. The phone pinged with its arrival, and her answer made him roll his eyes:

“Is that a promise hot stuff? ;)”

Vegeta groaned. He HATED when she did that. He furiously text back, “Damnit Briefs you’re almost an hour late. I’ve got shit to do tonight.”

“Oh really, like what?”

His fingers stilled over the screen. She had him there. He lived alone and truth be told he would probably just watch tv and head to bed after jacking off. Bulma didn’t need to know that though. “Since when is my personal life any of your business? Just get your late ass here already. I’m fucking starving.”

“Rude. I’m speak-texting from my cars bluetooth. I’m parking right now. Order me a drink okay?”

“Gin and tonic, extra lemon.”

“You know me so well ;)”

Vegeta was slightly unnerved that he knew her favorite drink by heart. He told himself it was because that’s all she ever ordered; but that was far from the truth. Over the past year that they’d worked together, he found himself paying far much attention to her. More than he had any woman. He’d been hired as Capsule Corps private lawyer, and over the past year had worked pretty much solely with Dr. Briefs and his pesky daughter. Dr. Briefs was planning on retiring within the coming year and wanted to make sure that all of the I’s were dotted and T’s were crossed. Bulma was to be his successor and she’d be a damn good one in Vegeta’s opinion.

That is if she could be on time for once in her life.

He waved the waiter back over, the young man turning a shade of green at finally being addressed by the dark haired stranger at the corner table.

“Gin and tonic, extra lemon,” Vegeta muttered, “and make sure it’s here within the next three minutes.”

“I-I’ll see what I can do-”

A twenty dollar bill was shoved into the waiters sweaty hand, “Three. Minutes.” Vegeta punctuated, “Times ticking.”

The poor server was practically trembling, “A-anything else for you sir?”

Vegeta pondered a moment, “Whiskey, on the rocks. There’ll be another twenty if you can get those here in the two minutes and thirty-four seconds you have left.”

Quicker than Vegeta had seen anyone move, the young man dashed towards the bar, nearly running into the blue haired woman who had just walked in the door.

Blue hair…

He would tell himself it was because he stood up to quick that his heart skipped a beat. It wasn’t the tight fitting, knee length red dress she was wearing. It also wasn’t the black shawl with fur lined hood framing her face. It wasn’t the way she was shaking off her wet umbrella. And it CERTAINLY wasn’t the way she looked around the restaurant, finally catching his eyes and grinning at him.

Nope. Not those things at all.

He put on his best scowl as she approached him, the gawking stares of other men in the restaurant unabashedly watching her rear end sway with every step she took in her black heels. To his secret, guilty pleasure however she paid them no mind. She was walking towards him alone. Her sky blue eyes locked on his black, full lips still smiling just for him-

“Bout fucking time.” He snapped.

And the spell was broken.

Bulma’s face fell, that tiny line he adored appearing between her eyebrows, “Well hello to you too, grouchy.”

Inwardly he cursed himself. Having no filter was often more a curse than it was a blessing. Even though she was still frowning at him he edged around her to pull out her chair, “Was there traffic?” He asked gruffly.

“Some,” she said, removing her shawl. Vegeta took it from her and laid it on top of his coat, “I got caught up in the lab earlier. And then I wanted to make sure I looked nice for our date.”

Vegeta froze, mouth slacking. Bulma however was far more interested in the drink being placed in front of her, “Thank you!” She smiled at the server.

The whiskey was slid over to Vegeta, the waiter looking like he’d just run a marathon, “Sorry it’s a minute late sir-”

Suddenly, Vegeta could hear again. He blinked, mumbled a few choice words and handed the man another twenty dollar bill.

Bulma sucked on the lemon wedge garnishing her glass, watching the exchange with great interest. After their server was gone, she raised a brow and asked “What was that about?”

“Just making sure we got the drinks quickly.” Vegeta could feel his cheeks flushing, “Look, I’m sorry but did you call our business meeting a date?”

“Mmmhmmm,” she mumbled around the lemon wedge she was still sucking on.

Suddenly Vegeta’s neck felt hot, “Look Briefs, I don’t known how you’ve deluded yourself into thinking this was anything but a meeting between two coworkers, but this is so not a date.”

He was never quite sure how she did it, but Bulma always had this way of looking right through him. Being a good lawyer meant having a good poker face, and Vegeta always had believed his was the best in the business. It’s how he acquired his own law firm at 25 and had been successful ever since. But this infuriating woman could see through him as easy as a pane on glass.

She removed the lemon wedge from her lips, smirk causing the corner of her mouth to turn up, “Really?”

“Yes woman,” Vegeta hissed, “not every single man in the world has to fall at your feet. Your imagination is almost as big as your ego.”

Frowning, Bulma dropped the drained lemon wedge on her napkin, “Hey no need to get nasty. Usually when you call me to a business meeting it’s at the lab. Not some swanky restaurant. Forgive me for assuming this was supposed to be something else.” She dropped her eyes back to the table, grabbing a complimentary piece of bread from the basket.

Vegeta exhaled through his nose. He and his big mouth. She had him there. When he needed to talk to her about something he would usually catch her in the lab. He wasn’t lying when he said he had business things to discuss, but well…

He sighed, then reached out and grabbed the back support of her dinner chair, dragging the whole piece of furniture and Bulma closer to him. It made an obnoxious scraping noise, but he really didn’t care. When she was within whispering range, he leaned over and muttered, “Sorry.”

Her eyelashes were so long he realized as they blinked at him, the crinkles beside her eyes betraying her smile, “It’s alright tough guy.”

Vegeta allowed himself a small lip twitch. That is until a shaky voice on the other side of the table asked, “Are you ready to order-”

It was Bulma who spoke when she realized Vegeta’s jaw muscle had tensed, “Just get us whatever the specials are tonight; he will have a beef item, rare and I’ll have chicken if it’s available.”

The waiter, as if sensing his impending doom slowly backed away, not fully turning until he’d reached the kitchen.

Bulma pinched Vegeta’s cheek, “Could you please try and not eat the wait staff? Poor guy looks like he’s about to pee his pants.”

Vegeta pulled his face away from her fingers, “it would serve that obnoxious little shit right. He’s worse than a flea.”

“Vegeta,” she warned, “please be nice. For once?”

“Tch.” He scowled and pulled out his phone, pulling up the business documents he needed to go over with her, “Whatever.”

Bulma sighed, and then took a sip of her gin and tonic, “In any case, you look nice. I like you in navy. I’ve never seen that sweater before; is it new? Sure this isn’t a date?”

Vegeta felt his blood pressure rising, the sweater was in fact new, “Woman please…”

“Just saying, you invite me to dinner which you’ve never done before…”

“Briefs I swear-”

“And you’re dressed like a GQ model with that tight navy sweater and black pants…”

“Please stop talking now-”

“And you took my shawl for me…”

“I am never being nice to you again.”

“You even know my favorite drink,”

“It’s all you ever have when you drink alcohol.”

“Pretty good memory if you ask me.”

Vegeta scowled, cheeks burning bright red, “Anyways, here are the documents your father wanted you to look over.” He slid his phone to her, “when you stop talking maybe we can actually get some work done.”

Bulma sighed, then picked up the phone, “Fine, fine. Maybe you should start drinking. You’d be more fun then.”

Eyes narrowed, Vegeta picked up his highball and took a sip. Bulma’s gaze danced across the screen of his phone, finger brushing up so she could read the rest of the document. They were both silent for several minutes when he saw Bulma’s eyes widen.

“What?” He asked.

She flipped the phone around, and Vegeta was horrified to see she was in his pictures folder. The image now on the screen was her, bent over in the lab studying a blueprint. Her long blue hair piled on top of her head and held in place with a pen, face concentrated on whatever she was looking at.

Vegeta paled. He’d taken that the other day and obviously without her consent. She’d called him to say she’d bought him a sandwich and invited him down to eat. Vegeta never turned down food, or a chance to be with her whenever possible. She’d soon forgotten her own sandwich, getting wrapped up in her own brilliant mind and began redesigning a space pod. He watched her in content silence and thought she’d never looked more beautiful. So he secretly took a picture, obviously never imagining she would see it.

And now Bulma was staring at him with a confused expression and he guilty snatched the phone from her hand, shoving it in his pocket and looking away, “We’re done here.”

“Vegeta-”

He made a movement to get up, but stilled momentarily when he felt her grab his hand, “Vegeta, stop it.” She insisted, “Can you quit trying to run away and talk to me?” The fingers on his hand tightened, and he slowly felt his resolve waning. What was he supposed to say? What did she want him to say? That she was right? Because she was, partly. He’d wanted to impress her, not necessarily on purpose but he figured having her alone for once might help. However, he was just a lawyer and former street kid. He’d brought himself up from nothing; had survived by the skin of his teeth doing less than legal things and the only thing that spurred him on was his pride.

She was the complete opposite. Bulma’s family was wealthy and she was used to the best things in life. She could have anyone she wanted. What chance did he have with her? Why was he even trying? Eyes closed tightly, he made the hardest decision of his life and snatched his hand away and stormed out the door as Bulma looked on, hurt; the food just being brought out and laid onto the table.

-

The channels on the television flipped robotically, Vegeta not really watching anything. It had been a bad night. Already stripped out of that new sweater, he sat on the couch shirtless and in sweat pants. How could he face her in the morning? He’d already drafted a resignation letter, more than prepared to walk in and slam it down on her desk right when he walked through Capsule Corps door.

Temper flaring, he pitched the remote into the wall. The flimsy plastic broke apart, batteries flying across the room. He was such an idiot. He’d just ruined the best thing in his life in less than an hour. Vegeta supposed he could easily open his firms doors again and pray his reputation wouldn’t be too soiled, but the promise of a paycheck was the furthest thing from his mind. All he really wanted was her, pressed up against his side as the two of them watched television together. His damn pride was his biggest asset and hinderance sometimes.

A light knock came on his front door.

His head turned slightly, brows furrowing. Who the hell would be knocking on his door at ten o clock at night? Beside him, his phone buzzed, the preview of a text flashing across he lock screen:

“Hey, open the door.”

It was Bulma’s name. His jaw tightened, hand twitching as he fought the urge to reply.

Bzz: “VEGETA, come on. Please?”

He exhaled through his nose and stormed to the door, throwing it open. There she was. Still in her red dress and shawl, a takeout bag in hand and his coat draped over her arm. She blinked, eyes roaming over his heavily muscled bare chest, “Oh, uh, hi.”

Forearm pressed against the doorframe, he sighed, “What is it Briefs?”

Bulma cleared her throat, trying in vain to take her eyes off his muscles, “Uh, you forgot your jacket. And I got the food to go. Maybe we can eat it here and talk?”

“About what?”

Scowling, Bulma pushed past him and into the living room, “Please, can we not play this game anymore? It’s getting old.”

Vegeta rolled his eyes, but followed her to the couch where she had already started laying out the food on his coffee table, “Woman, this really isn’t neces-”

“I didn’t know you did jujitsu!” She interrupted, skittering off to look at a picture on his wall, “Wow! That explains the muscles. It looks like your standing with a big trophy! But who’s that spikey haired guy with the bigger trophy -”

“Bulma,” Vegeta hissed, “what the fuck are you doing here? It’s late. I’m tired. And we have work in the morning.”

She turned, hands on her hips, “You should have thought about that before you ran away from our date!”

“For the love of…Bulma it wasn’t a date.”

“Who do you think you’re fooling?” Within a few steps she was in front of him, blue eyes burning into him, “Why would you invite me out to dinner? Why would you buy a new sweater? It still had the price tag on the back collar, so don’t even pretend like you’ve had it forever. And why was there a picture of me in your phone?”

“Why the fuck were you going through my pictures anyway?” He growled, “You’re looking far into it Briefs.”

Bulma’s sighed, “You’re hopeless. You know that right?”

“It’s for the best.” He said coldly, “I have nothing to offer you anyway.”

“You.”

“What?”

Small tears were beginning to brim in Bulma’s eyes, “There’s you. You’re smart, and cunning and even funny in you’re own weird way. I see when we’re in public places and you look only at me. And when we’re in crowds you put your hand on the small of my back because you know I’ll get lost.”

Vegeta swallowed, suddenly feeling a stirring within himself. An uncomfortable, ripped open sensation.

Bulma continued, reaching out and touching Vegeta’s sharp cheekbone, “I know how much work you have, but still you come visit me in the lab. You let me drunk text you and you always answer, even at three in the morning. Even if it’s snarky I don’t care, because it’s you. I wish you could see what I see when you look at me. Because it’s wonderful; you’re wonderful.”

Vegeta stood frozen, mind playing catch up with what she was saying, “So, you…think I’m tolerable?”

Choking out a laugh, Bulma nodded, “More often than not. But even when your an asshole I like you.”

“You, like me?”

“Yes.”

Vegeta blinked, “So…”

Bulma rolled her eyes, “Geeze Vegeta, do I have to spell it out for you?”

“Spell what?”

Bulma wrapped both arms arms around his neck, and dragged his face down to meet hers.

This was not the plan

unsub = unknown subject (aka the bad guy)

John rapped on your office door twice and held up a file once you looked up. “We got a case. NYC. It’s pretty bad.”

You stood and grabbed your tablet, looking through the files as you walked with him to the conference room. “Ten bodies? Why are we just now being called in?”

“Lead detective on the case was stubborn.” You snorted and he smiled at you. “But the details got leaked to the media and his captain made the call.”

“The media’s already running the story,” you asked as you sat down at the round table, nodding at each member of your team.

“Yeah,” said Maria as she leaned back in her chair. “They’re calling him the ‘King of Hearts.’ Saying he’s the worst thing that’s happened to the city since the Son of Sam.”

Angelica looked up from the files. “Are we sure it’s one unsub?”

George Washington, your team leader, sat down and smoothed his tie as he did so. “You think it’s more than one?”

“Like partners,” asked John.

Angelica shook her head. “No, I don’t think they’re partners. There are two different MO’s. The only thing they have in common is that they both take things from the victims.”

“Does he leave the things he takes with the next victim like the Reaper,” asked Hercules.

“No,” said Maria, looking over the files. “I’m betting they’re both keeping the items as trophies.”

“Or giving them to a significant other as gifts,” you interjected.

“All good ideas. We’ll talk more on the jet. Wheels up in 30,” Gwash commanded.

“Don’t you see that’s exactly what you’re doing?”

“Well what am I supposed to do when you turned everyone against me?” He yelled.

The Most Disturbing Things in John Winchester’s Journal:  A Comprehensive Study.

@jaredsnuggles made a really incredible post about all mentions of the boys in John Winchester’s journal.  It’s incredibly helpful for writing reference, and filled with genuinely heartwarming moments and an interesting glimpse into John’s POV.

But as someone who’s pretty infamously critical of John’s parenting skills, what I most noticed was the progressively disturbing way in which the boys were brought up, the responsibilities placed on them, and the way in may have impacted their psyches (performing!Dean, anyone?)

So let’s take a look at some of the most blatant examples of the Winchester’s upbringing that would have had the Child Protective Services knocking on most people’s doorsteps, and how it may have influenced the people they’ve become.

1.  Encouraging violent, illegal, and womanizing behavior:

  • Dean turns fourteen today. He took off to the movies with a girlfriend. I think her name is Katie. Quite the ladykiller, that kid. Like I was at his age. Hell-raising, foul-mouthed, full of piss and vinegar. Silas had it right: he’s like me. If I’m not careful with him, by the time he’s twenty he’ll have left a trail of kids and arrest warrants all over the country.

For some reference, Dean was not “a lady killer” at that age.  He was fourteen at the time, and didn’t even have his first kiss until he was at the boy’s home (where John dropped him) at age sixteen.
At fourteen, he was still a child, having a presumably very chaste relationship with another child, seeing as it didn’t even involve the rudimentary making out.

  • Dean turns twenty-one today. I’d buy him a beer if I thought it would be something new. He’s also old enough to buy his own guns now. I tried to raise him right, and looks like I did. He’s a scam artist, a ladies’ man, and an absolutely loyal son. He knows what’s right and doesn’t hesitate to do it. I’m proud of him. Now that he’s hunting on his own I don’t see as much of him, but I know he’s out there. When I call him in on a job, he’s right there every time. I’ve spent the last sixteen years afraid that I was going to screw him up somehow. Maybe now I can forget about that.

This one is just messed up on multiple levels.  For one thing, there’s a lot of talk about “performing!Dean” within the fandom, and it’s easy to see where that persona comes from:  this, along with his ability to shoot, kill, and protect Sam, is one of the few times John expresses overt pride in Dean.  Of course a child/young man struggling to garner his father’s affection and approval would adopt the most suitable persona possible to do so.

It’s my opinion that Dean, at his heart, isn’t a “scam artist” or a “ladies’ man:”  he’s a homebody who loves to cook and clean and take care of people, with a lot of traditionally feminine characteristics.  He can also be interpreted as having a lot of internalized same-sex attraction.

Would John have accepted that?  From what I’ve seen, probably not.  Performing!Dean is just the son John wanted.

2.  Age-inappropriate responsibility/obsessive behavior:

  • I took the boys, said good-bye to Missouri, and got the hell out of Lawrence. If I never go back, it’ll be too soon. Not for Dean, though. The first thing he wanted to know was when we would go home. But we don’t have a home anymore, Dean. The sooner you get used to that, the better. We don’t have a home until we find what killed your mother.

The fact that it was hammered into Dean’s brain that they didn’t, and would not, have a home for the foreseeable future would have been a tremendous blow to a child’s psyche – particularly when it was just mentioned that he wasn’t speaking or leaving John or Sam’s side less than a month prior.

  • I’ll hunt, and the boys will hunt, and we will find whatever killed Mary and we will send it to Hell. And on the way, we will kill every monster and ghoul and ghost and demon and anything else. My boys will not grow up to experience what I have. They will not lose what I have lost.

As always, his intentions are clearly good here, but for some reference, this was 1983.  The same year Mary died.  Dean was four, Sam was an infant, and he’s already decided that they can and will hunt.

  • Took Dean shooting. If he’s big enough to try to comfort me, he’s big enough to start learning the tools of the trade. I only let him fire the .22, but he is a deadeye marksman. My drill sergeant would have taken him over me in a second. Times like this, I sure am proud of my boy. I have a feeling it’ll be different with Sammy. Maybe he’s just too young to show it, but I don’t think he’s got the same kind of killer instinct.

There are two disturbing things going on here:  Dean is being taught to kill at age six, and John’s reasoning is the fact that because he’s old enough to serve as emotional provider for a fully grown man, he should be able to.  And also, there’s something about a six-year-old having a “killer instinct” that just sounds incongruous to me.

This is also one of the few times he expresses genuine pride in Dean.

  • For his seventh birthday, I took Dean shooting again. He wanted to fire one of the big guns—that’s what he called them. I let him shoot the Browning, but I steadied his hands. Sammy wanted me to help him make Dean a card. It was like a normal day, like we were a normal family with a mom who was off shopping or at work or something. Instead of dead. That illusion never lasts. I can’t afford to let it.
  • Sammy is five today. Thank God. He almost didn’t make it. I could blame Dean, but it’s my fault. There’s enough blame to go around. I missed the kill, and I left Dean watching Sam, and he couldn’t pull the trigger when he needed to. I haven’t taught him well enough. If he is weak like that again, my boys will die.

The fact that he’s blaming his nine-year-old son for his inability to kill, subconsciously or otherwise, in addition to putting a nine-year-old in a situation where he’d need to kill, is disconcerting to say the least.

  • Last night, Sammy woke up in the middle of the night telling me he was afraid of the thing in the closet. I went and looked. There was nothing in the closet, but I’ve seen too much not to believe that there could be. So I handed Sammy the .45 and told him the next time he saw the thing in the closet, he knew what to do. I don’t think I’ll win any awards from parenting organizations, but five nights running now Sammy has slept without nightmares. Sometimes a .45 under your pillow is all you need.

Sammy is sixteen years old today. God knows he’s got plenty of torments. Now he’s got a driver’s license, too. Doesn’t make much difference. He’s known how to drive since he was nine.

3.  Neglect:

  • Mary, you know I would never leave the boys with strangers I couldn’t trust. You know that, right? I never would.

The fact that he is apparently leaving them with strangers, regardless of whether or not they’re “trustworthy,” when at this point they are still toddlers, is by definition neglectful behavior.

4.  Paranoia/controlling behavior:

  • Dean turns five today. I was thinking about where we’re going to be in the fall, because he should start school. Then I realized that I can’t leave him in a school. Anything could happen. Maybe a place that has half-day kindergarten. Maybe that I could do. I know I should. I know he should be able to run around with other kids, who don’t know how to fileld-strip the Browning. Well, Dean doesn’t either, yet. But he’s learning. He’s got a talent for guns. I can see it already. And he’ll need it.

I was a homeschooled kid myself, but the fact that John kept Dean isolated and out of academic environments in order to protect him strikes me as paranoid and controlling, as well as bad for Dean’s psyche.

He’s also been using guns at around five years old.  I’m not even against guns, but that’s just messed up.

  • Dean turns twenty today. He’s in Ohio somewhere, hasn’t called in a couple of days. Tracking a possible poltergeist. He’s supposed to call in every night. Mission discipline is critical.
  • Sammy is eighteen years old today. Surprised he didn’t take off. We’re not getting along too well. He hunts when we need him to, but he’s never committed himself the way Dean did. Dean’s never known any other way to live, or if he has, he doesn’t act like it. He’s playing the role he was born to play. Sammy’s the younger brother. He doesn’t know what his role is, even though I can tell him until I’m blue in the face and we’re both ready to kill each other. He’s got one more year of school and then I’m drafting him full-time into the family business. I’ve given him more slack than I ever gave Dean, more than I would have ever gotten from my dad. He needed it. Now he’s a grown man, or almost. Time for him to step into what’s expected of him. Dean never even thought about college. We used to joke about it once in a while. But Sammy still believes he can have a normal life, but they’re both more useful to the world as hunters than … what, lawyers? Dentists? Sammy’s convinced himself that smart kids have to go to college. Part of my job is to convince him that college would be a waste of his smarts. And I gotta hand it to him on the brains front: there’s nothing he can’t find on the computer. I still dig around in actual books, libraries, newspapers. It’s all keystrokes and search words for Sammy. He’s done a good job hiding our trail on all the credit cards.

John never leaves an option for Sam or Dean to be anything other than “what’s expected of them.”  He never asks them what they want to do with their life, or considers their opinions valid.

This is one of the later entries, so it’s clear John has had a long time to settle himself into his extremist way of thinking, but it’s still disturbing and sad.

  • Sam graduated. He didn’t go to the ceremony. I think he’s still carrying a grudge that it took him an extra year. What do you want me to do, Sammy? Should we have stayed in Lawrence while whatever killed your mother came back for you? Should we have sat around fat, dumb, and happy even though war had been declared? How long would we have lasted that way?
  • Sam left. I told him that if he was going, it was permanent. I meant it.

  • Dean turns twenty-four today. I was twenty-four when I married his mother. Sorry, kid. Every boy has to cut the apron strings sometime, and for you it’s not going to be until we kill off a supernatural entity that seriously needs killing. Then we’ll all be free of your mother’s ghost. We’ll be able to live normal lives. But maybe not. Maybe we’ve all been hunters too long now.

It’s clear that John didn’t consider his children autonomous adults, and expected them to blindly obey his authority.  He also considers them complicit in his “war,” even though they were both very small children at the time.

In closing, it’s clear from the other entries that John loves his boys.  But as I’ve pointed out before, you can love someone and still be thoroughly toxic, abusive, and bad for them.  John’s parenting and projection onto Dean is probably the reason why he’s so uncomfortable with his own femininity (and ~possible~ bisexuality), and why he feels so continuously obligated to prove himself as a Scam Artist and Ladies’ Man™.

Even Sam, heartbreakingly, has finally internalized the message that he can never be anything other than a hunter, when he clearly at one point wanted to do otherwise.

So while John could, and did, have a lot of redeeming qualities, and wound up sacrificing himself for his son’s benefit, I hope this will lay to rest the debate about whether or not he was a good father.
