No, but really, why would someone potentially direct Colin to be that calm and monotone through 90% of the movie? First, it’s a horror film. Yes, I know his character is supposed to be shown as someone who is doubting what’s happening, doubting his faith, disillusioned with his upbringing, etc, but that does not mean he has to walk around and talk like he’s trying to keep in a fart.
Colin does really well when he’s allowed to be emotive, to have little facial expressions and little hints of what the character’s thinking without being overt about it, to use inflection and to sell a scene that way. It just seems like most of this movie was him being made to be someone who was probably on too many meds that made him stoic in spite of all the nonsense he was seeing.
IDK, I love it when he’s allowed to really act and shine, and I feel like Anthony Hopkins brought out the best in him, much like Bobby and Rose brought out so much in him, but the potential direction to remain stoic the whole time makes me want to punch a wall.
