See, the problem is I’ve tried to ignore it for months and I can’t for two main reasons. The first is more of a personal issue related to obsessive-compulsive intrusive thoughts that would take too long to explain to neurotypical people so I’m not going to waste anyone’s time with it publicly.
The second has more to do with the concept of personal space and basic respect. “But the actor will never see the content anyway” is not an excuse (and I am not alone in this thinking at least within the fandom, but I will not names of people who share these thoughts out of respect for their privacy). If you’re going to create nsfw content for a character, that’s fine - I still don’t like it and won’t look at it, but I’m not going to stop other people even though it personally makes me very uncomfortable. But if it pertains to a real person, that’s a completely different thing. The problem with the Internet is that people have little to no sense of personal boundaries, and often think it’s acceptable to say certain things because it isn’t going to physically affect anyone. But truthfully, personal boundaries do still exist regardless of whether you’re in actual contact with someone or not. I don’t care if you don’t know the celebrity or actor personally - this is still a real person with a real life who needs to be respected regardless of how you feel about them. They’re not a toy for your personal amusement/enjoyment - they’re still an actual human being and it doesn’t matter whether or not they’re ever going to see certain content about them, the fact that it not only exists in your head but out in the open where other people can see it without the consent of the actor/celebrity themselves is crossing a line. These are people who still need personal space and respectful treatment even on online platforms, just like any non-famous person.
I didn’t want to start any drama but honestly this is an issue not only with this fandom but with other fandoms too, and I’ve NEVER seen anyone call it out or discuss it. I think it’s something that needs to be recognized and discussed and not merely ignored, and I’m sorry if I’ve offended anyone, but I’ve spent my entire life staying quiet about things that bother me and I’m tired of doing that. The reason I bring this up is not to attack anyone but because honestly I love and respect Ben as a person as well as an actor and I want to make sure that that respect is a priority for fans, for HIS sake, not mine or anyone else’s.
