ideas for bagels

2

Today’s vegan breakfast was really amazing: One whole grain bagel topped with some organic avocado from the farmers market, freshly grounded pepper, a tiny bit of sea salt and creamy white balsamic vinegar besides some fresh straw - and raspberries (I had way more than pictured). Such a lovely treat after a stressful week full of exams and studying. Have an amazing day, xx Amber

Do you have any alternatives to coffee shop/cafe AUs?

  • Hotel AU – front desk workers know everything. Character A has seen crazy famous people pass through the hotel, and some super sketch ones.
  • Bagel shop AU – rivalry with the mainstream coffee house across the street that keeps stealing their good customers. Good chance to have a relationship between Character A, who works the tiny bagel shop, and Character B, who works at the other place.
  • Anime Con worker AU – Character A decided to work at a local con to make some extra money, ends up meeting a ton of really cool people in the process, but also going through a ton of stress from helping out at the con.
  • Retail store AU – “You keep coming in here to shop because we’re having a sale, and your face makes me really happy, but as an employee I’m not supposed to tell you that and it’s really irritating.”
  • Blogger AU – Character A is a well-known aesthetic blogger, Character B is a photographer, Character C a model for bridal magazines: it’s basically a poly ship made in heaven.
  • Bakery AU – The various misadventures of Characters A and B working at an authentic French bakery. Everyday shenanigans like having to order crazy complicated cupcake orders, to speaking faulted French with the store owners.

Knocking over lamps and running into the coffee table….

  • Jason’s middle name is Benjamin.
  • Trina got her first kiss when she was 12 and on vacation.
  • Mendel is the third of five children and the only boy. His sister Naomi is four years older than him, his sister Helen is two years older than him, his sister Deborah is six years younger than him and his sister Frances is twelve years younger than him.
  • Charlotte and Cordelia like to book hotel rooms under funny fake names when they are traveling, and when they are older and are watching Friends on TV and hear the characters mention Princess Consuela Banana Hammock, Charlotte drops a bottle of wine on the floor because she came up with it first.
  • Trina has a craft room and she saves the rolls from her wrapping paper crafts so Jason can play “Star Wars” with his friends.
  • Trina buys old calendars in bulk and frames the pictures from them. She gives the pictures she doesn’t use to Jason and Jason cuts out letters from old newspapers/magazines and glues them on and accidentally creates proto-LOLcats.
  • Marvin wears boxers. Whizzer prefers expensive briefs. Mendel goes commando.
  • Charlotte can’t cook, and one time nearly burned down Marvin’s apartment trying to make garlic bread
  • Marvin 100% goes on to completely lose it at the “Right Meow” scene from “Super Troopers” when the movie comes out. Jason thanks his lucky stars he got married before that so that his father didn’t try to sneak meows into his speech at the wedding.
  • In between proposing to Trina and having the actual wedding, Mendel decides he needs to spend more time with Jason as his stepdad-to-be rather than as his therapist. He takes Jason to the zoo. He later takes Jason to the hospital as a result of the boy wrenching his neck trying to turn his head like an owl.
  • Mendel and Trina 100% had plans to perform “Rapper’s Delight” at Jason’s bar mitzvah had it not been in Whizzer’s hospital room
  • Charlotte knows at least 20 different ways to flip people off
  • Cordelia was a cheerleader in high school but got kicked off the squad halfway through junior year because in the process of defending a student with a disability, she punched the star quarterback so hard in the crotch he had to have one of his balls removed.
  • Marvin was called “Starvin’ Marvin” all through college because he was so scrawny. He gained sympathy weight when Trina was pregnant with Jason and managed to lose it through racquetball but the badonk still remained. When Whizzer was alive, he would sometimes rest things on Marvin’s butt while Marvin slept.
  • Jason gets really mad at the idea of everything bagels because they don’t really have EVERYTHING on them.

A lot of times I envy my friends. They have someone who knows how to wait, knows how to respect them. I can see that they love my friends so much and they're doing everything to win their hearts, plus they are men of God. I wonder why no one like it does that to me. I know I'm not perfect and I'm still on a long way to being a woman of God, but I'm really doing my best to be one. I just want to feel that I'm pursued and have been praying this to God for a long time. As a woman, what should I do?

Hi sweet friend.

I want you to know that you are NOT alone. I am in this same boat.

I watched my best friend get married last night to a wonderful Godly man and it was so incredibly beautiful. She had been in some not so great relationships prior to meeting her now husband, so to see her marry such a good guy was so so special.

I also want you to know that God is faithful. I have also been praying for a relationship for a looong long time, but still remain single as a pringle while everyone else meets the love of their life. Late last year I was praying about a specific person and the Lord gave me this verse:

“Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

What I’ve found is that when I pray for something, God delivers in a way that meets expectations that I didn’t even know I had. But the reward doesn’t come right after we say amen. There’s things I’ve been praying for for over two years that are still coming to fruition.
What I think the best thing to do, unfortunately, is to wait. No one wants to hear that and certainly I don’t think anyone wants to do that. We live in a world where we get things when we want them and waiting is a little bit of a lost art.

God is relentless in His pursuit of us. I know it’s hard to see that sometimes because we don’t have angels bringing us flowers after a rough day or Jesus texting us good morning. But the way that God loves us and pursues us is sooooo much grander and more fulfilling than any kind of pursuit that even the godliest man can give us. And the way that God pursues us doesn’t go away or lessen when we are pursued by a man.

It’s a tough spot to be in, Anon. But, i want you to know a few things.

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with you because a guy isn’t pursuing you right now
  • God is always always always pursuing us, even when we can’t or don’t see it
  • God is so faithful and He truly does know the desires of our hearts - even when we don’t.

Let me share an excerpt from an email I received from a girl named Stephanie May Wilson. (She has a book called the Lipstick Gospel & I recommend reading it 100000%). This from a letter she wrote to herself when she felt totally invisible and unloved.

  • “All of us musical theater kids, we were all bagels. My friend Chloe was a chocolate chip bagel; My friend Anna was a sesame bagel; I was a blueberry bagel.  You get the idea.  We were all great bagels, but we were each a different kind of bagel. When auditioning for a certain role, Chloe, Anna, and I could all be up for the same part.  We would all be uniquely great for the role, but at the end of the day, the casting director was looking for a certain type of bagel.  Chloe may get the gig because they were looking for a chocolate chip bagel.  It didn’t mean that Anna or I weren’t amazing bagels. We just weren’t the bagels they were looking for. Suddenly, getting rejected for a part wasn’t a judgement of our talent or abilities, it was just a reflection of someone else’s preferences. I love that, because that’s the truth in relationships too. When we aren’t chosen, we feel like there’s something wrong with us, like we aren’t as good as the girl who was. But that’s not true at all. We are all just different kind of bagels, and we all have different taste in bagels too!”

Praying for you in this season, sweet anon. Stay patient and strong & so so close to God and He will surely give you the desires of your heart.
