ideal patch

Apples – soil pH of 5.0 ~ 6.8
Carrots – soil pH of 5.5 ~ 7.0
Eggplant – soil pH of 5.5 ~ 7.0
Cucumber – soil pH of 6.0 ~ 7.0
Champignon – uh, you don’t plant champignon in the open. So, it would be planted in the barn. On a hardwood log.
Kale – soil pH of 6.0 ~ 7.5
Scallions – soil pH of 6.2 ~ 6.8
Potatoes – soil pH of 5.0 ~ 6.0

Blueberries – soil pH of 4.0 ~ 5.0

All the above – except the blueberries and the champignon – can coexist in a “normal” soil, with pH between 6.0 to 6.5. The potato patch would need additional effort to lower the pH to 5.5 for ideal growth.

The blueberry patch, though, would require a GREAT effort to lower the pH to 4.5.

That is why Stu’s decision to plant blueberries at least six years before the time of the movie simply just didn’t make much sense.

But it was destiny.

Little did Stu & Bonnie knew at the time, that their decision to plan blueberries against common sense, would prove to be instrumental to saving their daughter’s life six years later.
